Mother knows best

When usually reliable Kalakaua Timoteo III, a freshman wideout, was missing at the start of this morning’s warmups, the concerned coaches called his cell and then his mother.

A few minutes later, Timoteo arrived. He had overslept and his cell phone was turned off. The coaches then called Jocelyn Timoteo to let her know her son was safe and sound. But she said she already was on her way from Mililani.

Jocelyn scolded her son, then made him apologize to the coaches for his tardiness. At the end of the 2-hour practice, Jocelyn was asked to give a closing pep talk to the team.

“I told (Kalakaua) this is a business and you can’t be (late),” Jocelyn said.

Jocelyn said she was appreciative that Rolovich, shortly after being named head coach last year, visited their house to reaffirm the scholarship offer to Kalakaua.

She said her son should “respect himself more and coach Rolo for everything he’s done for us and our family (and) for giving us this opportunity. I can’t afford college for him. He has to work and do it for himself.”

Later, Jocelyn said: “Needless to say, I don’t think he’ll be late to practice again.”

    Go Warriors and moms!

Usually Fresno has a NFL player or two up their sleeve.
Hope our guys can out muscle and out play them.
Paul Harris definitely could have had another
thousand yard this season if played more.
Oh well. Hope some NFL team gives him a tryout.

Thank you Mom Temoteo. If we had more Moms (and Dads, too) like you, the world would surely be a better place!

Mr. Tsai I like your Tsai’s Matters
I think you mentioned something about facilities playing a part. Maybe you need to do a story on the facilities and the training table. Let us see what they go through every week. That might put some pressure on Administration and fans will be more sympathetic and some big companies will donate money. You interviewed them on the plane. I was appalled about the way they travel. Those big guys in those little coach seats? Ridiculous!!
I remember Coach Wagner talking about the players eating rice with ketchup. Shame!!

Rice and ketchup … loved it as a kid! Second only to a side of rice and brown gravy at Coco Joe’s after midnight! Those were great days!

  8. NotNasti November 15, 2016 2:16 pm

I used to eat Ketchup sandwich, one slice of bread folded in half in order to keep the ketchup from oozing out.

  9. NorthShoreFan November 15, 2016 3:04 pm

    Hummm….talking training table? …lol

  10. WWF November 15, 2016 3:10 pm

    Sangamon Keith and NotNasti,

I hope you guys outgrew eating rice and ketchup and ketchup sandwiches as you grew up?

Interesting story about Mrs. Timoteo, ST.
Reminds me when I was a student teacher 45+ years ago at a rough Gr. 7-9 school. On yard duty I got no respect and open defiance until my cooperating teacher appeared. She was 50 years old, under 5′ tall and around 75 lbs. but could make the kids freeze in their tracks by holding up a finger and have them marching to the office when she pointed in that direction.

What was her secret power, I wondered. One day I asked her. “They are afraid I will call their parents…and I have”, was her reply.

Maybe not so effective nowadays, but every team needs a mom or tutu. 🙂

This morning we took our students from the Farrington High School Friends Program to watch practice. After practice the players came by and visited with our students (which is a mix of students with special needs and general education students). The UH players were so gracious and humble. I am a season ticket holder and lifelong fan. Seeing how nice the players were to our students (and me) reaffirms my loyalty to the program. The staff at UH was awesome as well. Live Aloha Play Warrior! Go Govs!

I ate ketchup sandwiches when I was a kid. I read that former Mizzou All America Center and Indiana Pacer Steve Stipanovich ate ketchup sandwiches too. Maybe if I kept eating ketchup sandwiches, I would have grown taller.

    JESUS Knows best

You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders.

  19. mileHIwarrior November 15, 2016 6:06 pm

Never ate ketchup sandwiches when I grew up but I did grow up eating ice cream sandwiches (ice cream between 2 slices of Loves bread).

  20. H-Man November 15, 2016 6:57 pm

    Mayonnaise sandwiches.

“Aunty Jocelyn” … I work w/ a lot of young kids and they have no work ethic; always showing up late, no desire to want to better themselves. This is a great story and I’m glad there are still parents like you around … God Bless you, the Timoteo Ohana, and the UH Warrior Football Team

LIVE ALOHA / PLAY WARRIOR / DEFEND THE ROCK … GO ‘BOWS !!!!!

  23. FearGod November 15, 2016 7:31 pm

Make sure that our desires lead us in the right direction. Put boundaries on them.
Don’t go after everything you see. Keep your desires on serving God and building his Kingdom by helping others.
We, too, are in danger of being absorbed in possessions and pleasure.

Loves white bread with mochi crunch inside. Yup, sounds unusual but tasted pretty good in my small kid time.

  27. Tutu Kane Ale November 15, 2016 10:36 pm

@Coach Rolo; you need a DMC (Discipline Management Coach) on your staff and bet you Jocelyn would sure turn things around the clock.

  28. cocobean November 15, 2016 10:59 pm

I’m worried the team is on the verge of slipping back into the Chowlight Zone. The symptoms are starting to appear.

  29. cocobean November 15, 2016 11:18 pm

A lesson for the schedule makers. This team lacked the depth and talent to play this thirteen game schedule. It seems to me the schedule caught up to the team after the Air Force game. They left the game physically and mentally drained. It was their fifth road game and in badly need of a break. Instead the schedule dealt them three more tough games in a row. The weary just wearier.

In my opinion the the team is at it;s lowest point in terms of morale and motivation. It’s going to take a mind over matter effort to beat Fresno on the road. The team has taken a Rocky like pounding and it’s going to take a Rocky like effort to get off the mat and fight on.

    Loves Bread.

Taste not the same, texture not the same, smell not the same, color not the same.

Preservatives added big time. Bread can sit out over 1o days and still be soft. However it is not Loves anymore. Became the bread I Hate now. I make an effort to stay away from it.

I miss how the bread use to be. Loves go back to your old recipe.

cocobean #27 – Speaking of Rocky. One of my favorite Rocky quotes:
“…The world…is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t how hard you hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done… you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain’t you. You’re better than that.”

  32. 808SEC November 16, 2016 3:41 am

    Sorry I meant coc0bean #29

  33. Maddog50 November 16, 2016 4:43 am

808SEC, not a big Rocky fa but the quote really says a lot to a whole lot of people in a whole lot of places including this Warrior team-Anthony Rizzo bombed the Cubs clubhouse and team bus with the Rocky theme during the Championship run after being down 3-1.

Fresno State roster has at least 8 players we recruited heavily in the past not the least of which is Cronk starting OL. Would love to give them a powerful lesson in regret-GoWarriors!!!!

  34. Palolo_2LA November 16, 2016 4:46 am

Perhaps Timeteo’s mom can have a sideline roll during the games. She could keep players from chilllaxing on the bench and supporting their teammates instead. I have a Polynesian mom who dished out tough love, which I think some of these kids need a taste of to assist with them realizing how lucky they are to play college FB @ UH.
