SAN JOSE — It was a triple reunion when the Warriors practiced at Saint Francis High this morning.
Saint Francis is short-snapper Brodie Nakama’s alma mater.
Former UH lineman Ray Hisatake is dean of student services at Saint Francis.
Terry Malley, who was Nick Rolovich’s head coach with the AFL’s San Jose SaberCats, also attended practice, delivering a rousing pep talk.
Before the one-hour walk-through session, the Warriors warmed up with Hawaiian-style football:

Go Bows!
Beat San Jose State!
ST.
Thanks for the pictures and Video.
Keep um coming.
The “Hawaiian Style FB video” is very refreshing since it shows the level of fun these players are having under the new regime. I attended 8+ road games in the last 3 years and never rarely witnessed excitement and joy in the players eyes or body language.
Looking for that road win tomorrow! This one is critical, I hope the Warriors come out hitting on all cylinders! A victory against SJS will show that the team is turning the corner.
GO WARRIORS!!!
SPANK DA SPARTANS!!!
Does anyone have a recording for the entire UH vs Nevada Game. If so please post it somewhere (youtube) so us Mainland Warrior Fans can watch it. Mahalos
RIP, Skippy Dyer, all-time great UH player and member of the Hawaii Rainbows team that upset Nebraska in 1955. A tw0-way player, he held the record for longest scoring run, 87 yards, until 2015, when Paul Harris ran 95 yards.
See today’s paper for details.
” … Dyer’s biggest game came in the celebrated 6-0 upset of Nebraska in Lincoln by a 29-member UH travel squad that was a heavy underdog. Dyer rushed nine times for 63 yards, but more crucial was his play at defensive back as a two-way performer.
In attempting to slow down a power-running Cornhuskers team that had pounded UH 50-0 just 10 months earlier at Honolulu Stadium, coach Hank Vasconcellos stacked the defense with eight- and nine-man lines, utilizing just two rover backs, Dyer and Ed Kawawaki, and one safety, Botelho.
Dyer, despite playing with a tender knee, made several huge defensive plays, including a fourth-down stop of Nebraska’s all-conference running back, Willie Greenlaw, at the 7-yard line. “
RIP Skippy.
Does any body remember…was it Travis Sims that had a 99 yard touchdown run against Texas El Paso called back because of a penalty? I checked the stats archive…might have been 1992.
Saint Francis, meet Saint Just and Coach Rolo
and UH mighty clouds of thunder and lightning.
🙂 Ok…now everybody sing: Oh When The Rainbow
Warriors Go Marching In…with another Win!
A road win would be outstanding, and after seeing the Rainbow Warriors play last weekend, it sure seems possible. When you consider that there was only one road win during seasons 2012 – 2015, a win tomorrow would be a huge mark of success for the program. Let’s Go Bows!
With a win tomorrow I’d be surprised if next week the threshold of 30,000 in attendance isn’t broken
Keep rotating players in and out, lets be ready to finish strong! This team has yet to form an identity!!! Are they a great defense like WASHINGTON or a great offense like Texas Tech or a beat you up team like STANFORD??? Find SOMETHING to hang your hat on coach!!! If CHANG and BRENNON lit it up- then be that! Or maybe Virginia Tech SPECIAL TEAMS play. You wanna recruit to your strengths BUT YOU GOTTA HAVE ONE!!! I coached for a lot of years and no one wanted to deal with our DEFENSE we were a freaking nightmare to the point that the ref’s would say to me TONE IT DOWN COACH your team has made it’s point!
Let’s get it going UH!!!!

How bout dey play good ol’ Warrior fubal! Last total complete game was against La Tech at their place it was a wuppin by all three units in 2010-If they come in jacked like last week and build on it they win by 10! Go Warriors!!!!!!
I have another good feeling about tomorrow’s game. This team has a winning mentality. It cannot be stopped. Go Warriors!
This is more applicable for a earlier thread, but I wasn’t able to post before it was closed. Regarding the “fan experience” here’s the link to the rules for UC Berkeley’s Cal Memorial Stadium.

The two things that I particularly want to call attention to is that outside food and beverages are allowed as long as no cans, glass, or hard bottles are used and NO ALCOHOL is allowed (and of course none is sold inside the stadium). Besides the commercial food service provided by the concession stands, there are also several food trucks located in a particular area (inside the stadium).

This game will establish in the mind’s of many here and around the league whether the Warriors are contenders or pretenders. I have confidence the offense will hold up their end it’s the defense I’m more concerned about. Last week was the first time they played with such emotion and intensity. The team has to come out fired up and maintain that throughout the game. The last 8 minutes of the UNR game should have been a lesson on what can happen if you play hard but let up on intensity. It was so refreshing to see the defense get into a hitting frenzy to the point where anyone with the ball was going to be hit multiple times much like when sharks or piranhas are in a feeding frenzy.
ST & Tsaiko Blog Dogs:
I remember Skippy Dyer as a youngster during Summer Fun. He was one of the assistants and taught us how to make a kite. He was a really cool guy and everyone enjoyed him. I vaguely remember him playing in the Hula Bowl at the old Stadium. I know he was really fast and shifty. I always wondered why he was never invited to UH games for old time sake…I guess, he, as they say, fell off the map. His team mate Charlie Araki got me into the Army when he was a teacher at Kaimuki High.
Coco…
Seriously?
Last week was the FIRST week our offense had established ANYTHING against a real opponent. I imagine the defense had a hard time “getting into a hitting frenzy” and playing with intensity & passion, when the offense couldn’t stay on the field for more than 3 plays… Don’t want to get into an Ad Hominem attack, but it seems like you (and some other UH fans) want to tell themselves that they understand football.
Skippy born in Jamaica, home of another fast guy, named Bolt.

Cal athletics as well as the University of California is in a deep financial hole and may have to cut some sports.
Great Afternoon All!
Pomai,
56 – 14 Akamai Okole
as a teenager in 1955 on outside island, we heard of Skippy Dyer, the UH football great who was especially outstanding in the Nebraska game
always wanted to meet him, but now all I have is the article in today’s sports page which I will keep for a long, long time!
RIP Mr. Dyer and condolences to your family!
I was unaware that UH gold medalists are given $25,000
as such, how does this affect their status continuing to participate in their respective college sports like the wahine swimmer who won “gold”, but will swim for Stanford? or, was it Cal?
me lyks da “Hawaiian” video – why UH no can do dat in San Jose’s game? or every game using different players to trow da ball?
go left or right, then the oddah way
Lots of support and backing for Hawaii in San Jose.
The No-Cal (Northern California) Tsai-kos shall rise again!
GO RAINBOW WARRIORS!
GO WARRIORS! IT’S GAME TIME! Let’s show them what University of Hawaii’s football program is made of now!
Does anyone have a link to watch today’s game? Go Warriors!
On the MWC website, it says due to restrictions it will not be streamed on the mainland…what’s up with that?
