Training camp: No place like home
The training-camp lodging will feel like home to many UH football players.
That’s because it will be home.
Coach Nick Rolovich will allow players who don’t dorm during the year to live in their off-campus apartments and houses during training camp. The rest will stay in their dorm rooms.
The Warriors open training camp on Sunday. The first practice is Monday.
In past years, all the players would live in the dorms (or dance studios, in the fiscally lean years) during training camp. That arrangement did not make financial sense for players who had off-campus homes.
“Guys were staying in the dorm (during camp) but still paying rent at their places,” Rolovich said.
In reaching this new decision, Rolovich said: “If we’re able to help them out in August with where they’re living — (and) all the pieces fit — that’s what we should do. … I think they appreciate it. They understand there’s something about sleeping in your own bed.”
Rolovich said he trusts that his off-campus players still will be able to be in time for meetings and practices.
“If it’s not important for them to go to bed (early) and go to practice (on time), then we’re in trouble already,” Rolovich said. “I can’t imagine this team, with this opportunity, would take advantage of this trust at this point.”
Go Warriors!
Home is where the heart is!
Condolences to the Nash Family.
It’s great that he/”Rolo” trusts his players … trust is a 2 way street … you trust me / I trust you … the players trusting “Rolo” will pay off in the long haul.
LIVE ALOHA / PLAY WARRIOR / DEFEND THE ROCK … GO ‘BOWS !!!!!
Domelynne Nash was a wonderful, wonderful woman.
Deepest sympathy to the Nash family.
Condolences and Aloha to the Nash Ohana
Great Morning All!
Trust is where it all starts.
GO WARRIORS!
That’s a good common sense approach to the reality of the players’ live and the needs of the program. It’s also good to see Coach Rolo put the onus on the players to make the whole thing work. Like my friend AO says above, that’s where it starts.
Does the blog host know if practices will be open to the public?
GO WARRIORS!!!

Prayers for the Nash ‘ohana.
*ohana not ‘ohana – fat fingers!
Don’t know his wife but talked to Bob a few times. They seem like a great family and it’s too bad some of us go too early.
Condolences to the Nash ohana.
Condolences to Bob Nash and ohana.
Headline ties in with Mrs. Nash:
…”No place like home.”
Now she is truly “over the rainbow”.
Rest In Peace Domelynne Nash in
your new home.
Kolten Wong may have turned his season around today.
First time all year that he had three hits.
I remember seeing Bob Nash and his wife while on my way to the old KCC satellite campus at McKinley.
Nice people.
I remember them saying hello to well-wishers.
I wanted to ask him if he thought Cliff Beaubern had a shot as a free agent signee with, I believe, the Sonics.
Thank you, Bob Nash, for what you brought to the program, and I am sorry for your loss.
Living Aloha…..at UH!

Guud Evening Tsaikos…Bootiful night!
Condolences to the Nash Ohana. Worked with Domelynne’s dad for many years. Learned a lot from him. Also knew him to raise good kids.
Healing energy to the Ohana.
Comments on this decision appear to be mooted by austere financial considerations at UHAD. I can not imagine how this benefits team bonding. Not to mention player monitoring. An important element in opening camp. We are talking about fledging athletes not NFL players. Rolo himself will tell anyone willing to listen that his first year at UH as a player was an adventure in discipline. This is good reason teams sequestor their players in camp. To maintain control of rules over a two week period and to keep heads tightly screwed on in order to prepare for what lays ahead. This universal college practice encompassing preseason camp accommodations on campus is not up for debate on its merits. The sleep-where-you-rent excuse is lame and weak. Campers do not pay for camp so it is a wash. UHAD is broke. Period. Rolo had no choice in the matter, went with the flow and is hoping to make the best of an underfunded program. Rebuilding this program on the back of a young coach has a definite benefit. Rolo will not be willing to make demands or excuses until and IF he produces a winning season. Best wishes to ROLO, indeed, he has the heart of a young warrior.
Condolences to Bob Nash and Family. Nice article in the SA by Ferd Lewis about who Domelynne was and her relationship with her family. Very loving and caring wife mother and friend of UH Athletics.
To Browner…Rolo has done a plethora of activities, along with his assistants, in team bonding and trust building activities such as the water ballon/training at the military base etc. among a host of other modalities to foster a more tighter knit group. Allowing players to sleep in their own beds is better for their bodies recovery after a long day of stress on their muscles. But, I guess if you wanna look for the bad in everything with a fine toothed comb and a magnifying bless go right ahead.
We need a mascot
Bring marshmallow man back haha na. Maybe a guy in a shark suit?
#21 … “Cincodemayonnaise” … Amen to your comments
#23 … “Inyoface” … wasn’t K. Mark Takai the “Marshmellow Man” … and no … no “Marshmellow Man” … too bad we can’t get Vili back
LIVE ALOHA / PLAY WARRIOR / DEFEND THE ROCK … GO ‘BOWS !!!!!
A shark would be cool if it looked sleek and mean.
kimo browner: you have actual figures that UHAD is “broke” or are you just making things up?
