Who wants a T-shirt?
Does UH history fit you to a T?
Today’s prize is a T-shirt honoring the “Termite Palace” and No. 32 (UH’s only retired football number).
To enter the drawing, please post: Here’s to you, Tommy!
Avis will select a winner.
(By the way, you can submit more than one entry. The way it works is Avis sends me a random number. I check the post with that number, and — tada! — we have a winner.)

Another nice day in Hawaii. Here’s to you,Tommy!
Some termite palace memories: I was a cub scout in the early fifties and we had our territorial makahiki Boy Scouts activity at the Termite. I used to watch the Asahis on Sunday afternoons and Farrington vs Kamehameha Turkey day football when Bob Apisa was Farrington’s running back against Kamehameha’s huge line. Also the Hawaii Islander games watching Carlos Bernier and Bobby Prescott in the early years. Damn I’m getting old
Ahh and the San Francisco Giant with Willie Mays, McCovey, Marishall probably spelt some names wrong lol vs Hawaii allstars from the Hawaii Baseball league. I think Dick Kitamura played in that game. HERE’S TO YOU TOMMY K.

Has Kennedy had anything to say since his plea deal, and does he think he might play this season?
Here’s to you, Tommy! My most awesome memories of the Termite Palace included watching Levi Stanley, Jeris White, Alex Kaloi, Golden Richards, Larry Price, Johnny Rodgers and the Cornhuskers, and Terry Metcalf.
Good Afternoon Everyone!

Fondest Termite Palace memory was Turkey Game when Stan The Man Cadiente and Farrington Governors upset powerhouse Kamehameha, 16-6, on Nov. 25, 1965, to win the ILH Championship. Jim Becker wrote it up in the Star-Bulletin, “The Day The Govs Won It All.” Becker later wrote: “My wife and I were at a fancy restaurant in Waikiki. And I asked for the check. The manager came up and said, ‘No check Mr. Becker. I went to Farrington. You made us proud.’” Becker will be an honored guest at FHS Class of ’66 50th anniversary reunion on July 30 at Honolulu Country Club. Stan and many football teammates will be there to celebrate with classmates.

Lurker who used to sell programs at Islander baseball games during intermediate school. Howard was a fixture there year round. Lots of thrills watching the Bows almost upset Ed White and the Cal Bears in a game that left us all who stayed without any dry aricle of clothing after the game. The quarry parking was almost a foot deep in spots.
f uck you, tommy!
Here’s to you, Tommy!
I remember sneaking in to games from my friends patio which was next to the wall of the stadium.
Chunky’s…getting hungry now..beef/pork teriyaki, chili spaghetti, cutlets etc…Rainbows come close but…

My memory of Honolulu stadium after they took down the grandstand and exterior
walls. Playing the first little leauge game on existing field for Moiliili Vikings
before they tore it up to make way for present day
Old Stadium Park. I still remember Howard Egami watching us play standing with his bike. Too bad no more Hot dogs, Peanuts, Chips, Coke.

Used to wait at bottom of grandstand to say Hi to Jim’s daddy Chuck. I sold programs at the stadium.
Played there-still say I never saw a termite!!
Chunky’s had great food but was usually crowded. With little money I used to go to Goodie- Goodie, on Coolidge Street, or Maruzen in th middle of the next block. Then off to watch an Islanders game.
Here’s to you, Tommy!

I remember watching auto racing (demolition derby ?) at the Termite Palace.
Most memorable game was a Turkey day game Kahuku vs Leileihua.
Leileihua had Alex Kaloi and Rick Wagner.
Kahuku had the Finai bothers, Pisa and Paufai.
In the closing minute Leileihua was nursing a lead, but Molia Salanoa ripped off a long run from deep in their own territory, but was tackled by Rick Wagner who was playing defense in anticipation of something long to Pisa.
The next play was a pass from Salanoa to Pisa Finai for the win.
Also saw Levi Stanley against Nebraska with John Rodgers.
And yes I did see clouds of termites as they would gather around the lights during night games.

Don’t forget Bobby Moore (Ahmad Rashad). University of Oregon. Oregon L 16-57 11/29/69 Att 21,717; (#1) Nebraska L 3-45 12/04/71 Att 23,002.
For me, here is a little a bit of trivia, I was the original water boy for the original bad news bears—Pac 5 Hummers. So, my most memorable reflections were watching Mosi, thinking–“is this sole actually in high school??!?”
Here’s to you, Tommy!
Never got to go to Honolulu Stadium but the book by Arthur Suehiro “Honolulu Stadium-Where Hawaii Played” is a great book. So many pictures it makes one almost feel like they were there.
I miss the old “termite palace”. Going to Chunky’s first then heading out to a UH football game, Hawai’i Islanders’ game, or a high school game.
I remember playing high school football and baseball the last year of the Honolulu Stadium.
And I had the honor of playing pop warner (bantam) for Tommy Kaulukukui back in the early ’70s. Great and wonderful person and coach. Taught us a lot about football and life values.
Thank you Coach…
Here’s to you, Tommy!
Remember UH players like Jeris White (Redford HS) and Hal Stringert (St. Louis) who went on to play in the NFL
http://hawaiisportshalloffame.com/white.jpg
Another memory was the 1970 McKinley vs Kaimuki game that the Tigers won 6-3. Controversial because the Bulldogs, coached by Charlie Miyashiro with players such as Randy Borden and Joe Lee, crossed over the goal line late in the game, but the refs never signaled a TD.
Sorry, “Radford HS”
