Worsley, Matautia, Yogi to training team; Huff to Utah
Three players with Hawaii ties were among 19 named to the U.S. men’s junior national volleyball training team on Tuesday.
Selected were current University of Hawaii setter Joe Worsley, incoming Warrior hitter Austin Matautia (Moanalua) and libero Kelsey Yogi (Punahou), an incoming freshman at Cal State Northridge.
The roster will be trimmed to 12 with the team competing in next month’s NORCECA U21 Continental Championship in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada. Worsley was on the 2014 Boys Youth National Team that won the NORCECA U19 Continental Championship and was on the BYNT that finished seventh at last summer’s FIVB U19 World Championship.
And according to her instagram, Megan Huff is transferring to Utah. Utes assistant coach is former UH assistant Gavin Petersen.
Regarding Jane, I remember Kii Spencer-Vascocello playing basketball for UH then playing for Menlo, so I think 5 year clock doesn’t apply when you decide to the division 2 or 3 route.
1. I think it applies to DII but not DIII (non scholarship) or NAIA, which is what Menlo is.
She may have applied for a medical hardship. There was some issue about the time she left Arizona.

I think Worsley will probably make the team as a libero instead of setter. I see Matautia making the final roster too.

What are the eligibility rules for NAIA? Kristina Kam joined UH in 2009, injured in 2010, played 2011 and 2012, sat out 2013, played two more years 2014 and 2015, at Azusa Pacific. Seven seasons in total.

I don’t think withdrawing your name from consideration is even close to equaling almost taking a job!
Utah is a pac 12 school but not exactly the high level program I expected Huff to transfer too. I was ecpecting UW or better.

I feel like Worsley is mentioned as a setter but ultimately will be used as a libero like he was last year.

5. believe NAIA has no age limit as long as you have eligibility. NCAA caps at 25 unless you’ve had church mission or military service.
