awesome practice today! energy level is off the charts. guys really getting after it.
turfwar:
stirred your interest and response, eh!
from previous post — yep, sure this is a gem from every school, but who are they, position, academics, etc.
my reference to PC5 was which school to visit since 5 separate schools contribute football players to one program
yep, nearly everyone you mentioned did not attend UH, but a school on the mainland – so, what good is it to UH if student did not have any interest into playing for the home-team??? does this defeat the purpose of visiting very high school in the state? when will the coaching staff visit Big Island, Kauai, and Maui?
perhaps all the top talent in Hawaii feels he can be the next Mariota – good luck to all, but don’t be disappointed if you fail
you can always “bounce back” to UH!
valley is clouded over again – com’on mother nature — we need the sun!!
My take on today’s practice. Russell Williams’ interception was a one-handed grab. Awesome grab. Didn’t notice any changes in the 1s and 2s. The 1s looking good. The 2s came on strong in their final series. I thought RBs Paul Harris, Diocemy St. Juste and Steven Lakalaka look game ready. Mel Davis not in mix as he appears to be rehabbing injury. As ST wrote, Aaron Zwahlen had a good outing. I also thought Ikaka Woolsey also had a good practice, looking sharp and completing several good passes. LB Malachi Mageo showed his speed and tackling. LB Tamua Tuinei also showed good lateral pursuit and good tackling. Little distressing a couple of the TD receptions were to wide open receivers.
It’s good that the team seems to be moving along despite the recent disappointment with KT and KG. There have been many comments about the situation. Some comments very thoughtful, others not so much. I have no information beyond what I read in the news. For KT especially it doesn’t sound good. For KG probably better from what is known now.
I hope they both make it back onto the playing field this year. Domestic abuse is a very serious matter, as is abuse of any kind. In fact, verbal and emotional abuse is known to be at least as damaging as physical abuse. The last few seasons sitting behind the Warrior bench watching coach Chow lose his composure over and over again while abusing referrers and his own staff was very disturbing to me. But no one seemed to find this problematic. He kept coaching and kept getting paid.
Perhaps talking about coach Chows behavior and KT’s alleged activities is stretching it. But I think it is a valid point. One difference is that coach Chow was protected by a contract and a position of power. KT is not similarly protected. I don’t know this young man. Perhaps he is a troubled and violent person and is beyond help. Or perhaps he is young man trying to find his way who made a big mistake. He certainly is a person who is encouraged to have an extreme level of aggression available when he steps onto the field. It may not be so easy as to have
some sort of convenient “off” button for his aggression when he steps off of the field.
If KT is the sort of person that is beyond help then there is little to do but dismiss him from the team. If on the other hand he has a chance to learn from this situation and become a better person than I believe he should be supported in this. I don’t think we should cast off our players at their worst moments but recognize that their (and our) worst moments are the times when the greatest change is possible. So my wish for KT (and KG) is that a pathway to return is possible. A pathway that acknowledges the seriousness of the situation but doesn’t cast him off at the worst of times. If this is possible I think it is in everyone’s best interest.
Thanks for the pics, Stephen.
Great practice today – the first on the turf – it showed a little in the passing. The longer they were out there, the better the QBs and receivers looked. Our first OL unit is strong and got the blocks for runners and QBs. Great depth and speed to burn at RB, and a couple of nice physical RBs too.
As far as the defense, the more we see of Lempa the better we feel, he’ll have some tricks up his sleeve up come game time.
Have to agree with Tsai – Zwahalen looked sharp – the first three QBs all had their moments today.
Nice to meet blogger Uku from LA today. Mane’o!
GO WARRIORS!!!
6: Acumfortis – well stated! I agree and hope for positive outcome!
Always nice to read your posts Arcumfortis. We hope for the best!
Kona, nice meeting you at practice today.
Z is the Qb
I see Z got most upside.
Rolo should play him.
Real nice pics today. Thanks ST. Sam looks huge.
Zwahlen was 9-of-12 for 120 yards today. One of the incompletions was a throwaway.
One comment on the KT situation…
It seems the couple has ongoing problems. Best thing for KT & his girlfriend is get away from each other & end this destructive relationship. Easier said than done, but it will be in their best interests to do so. KT probably needs anger management therapy as well.
#6 I agree with many of your points. We all face adversity and there are lessons to be learned. It is my hope that both players as well as others can learn from this and move forward to become a better person.
Forgot to metion Lakalaka – looks healthy and bigger – a good blocker too.
Hot!
OK, that’s the first impression of practice today.
The lasting impression as a fan: Patience
Has the crowd on the hillside increased with every weekend practice?
hope so as this may be a very favorable indication that Coach Rolo, his staff, and players are pointing to a very interesting season
in Vegas last week and several Hawaii people asked me my opinion how well UH will do this year – my answer was look for UH in the Hawaii Bowl.
also, UH over Cal in Sydney!
A-house,
Like so many other things, it’s all relative…
Ohio State had 100k fans at its Spring Game; UH had 2 dozen or so HS coaches at its Coaches’ Clinic.
Bottom line? Patience.
I like that we have a big back that can fly.
Maybe everyone should stop posting comments about KT and KG and focus on the team that’s practicing. Talk about the positives.
Let the courts figure everything out and leave the guessing game out of here, so annoying reading all the guesser’s comments. The guys who are practicing and working out getting ready for the season should be who we’re talking about, amen!
Hi, long time lurker here. I came across this blog post about Arizona’s spring practice that gave me an idea of what UH could do to enhance the fan experience.

Thought all three QB’s had good moments today. All had at least one decent long drive. Probably Ikaika’s best day this spring and Beau threw some passes on the money and the ball came out of his hands with velocity and accuracy. Aaron again hit some bombs and will get his chance when the season starts. Still worried about the lack of separation from receivers but nothing can be done about that until speed and or elusiveness is brought in. Got to see a practice at a MW school in Cali and the difference in speed and hands is pretty obvious. But no secret that Chow went after size at WR and 4th year guy Ammon Barker could make his mark next year. Showing some want to. Ulu-Perry will be a cornerstone in the years to come but he’s got to control his temper. Sent to the showers early today but in his defense the other guy might have hit him low and could have caused injury. Lakalaka starting to get back some of his explosiveness after a bunch of injuries and other RB’s had good long run moments. This offense is starting to develop a look and it’s pretty balanced.
Interesting to listen to Rolo’s comments about today’s practice. Apparently the posters thought more highly on how the team performed than Rolo.
Yeah, I heard Rolo’s comments on the news and wondered what he was talking about. ST’s article on Zwahlen reflects a positive regarding the Warrior QB/offense. Maybe Rolo’s disturbed that the offense is making it look too easy.
