Spring practice #5: It was pro day

In the Warriors’ version of pro day, today’s visitors included defensive end Michael Bennett of the Seattle Seahawks and linebacker Manti Teo of the San Diego Chargers.

Kynan Forney, a former UH offensive lineman who played 10 NFL seasons, made his second appearance.

Also visiting were former Warriors Bryant Moniz, Randall Okimoto, Manly Williams, Jeremiah Cockheran and Shawn Withy-Allen.

Michael Bennett and O-line coach Chris Naeole. Bennett owns a house in Hawaii and spends about six months here each year. He also is a self-proclaimed "Hawaii fan." Bennett offered tips to UH's defensive linemen.

I’m impressed that Manti Te’o showed up. Really nice of him to show support for the Hawaii program. And Mahalos to the other former players that have been showing up at practice. I would imagine it gives the players a boost.

I think it’s awesome that there are guys like Manti and Michael Bennett helping out UH even though they never played here. Great to see former ‘Bows out there as well.

    THIS IS GREAT!

Other players who have been there, done that….and also those who are doing it now at the highest level are not only showing up at practice, but are helping out in practice!

I think this speaks well for Rolo as he is trying to change the culture here and include all who “LIVE ALOHA, PLAY WARRIOR”. Also it shows that Rolo isn’t intimidated by others who have had success at certain levels, but embraces them and folds them in, asking for their mana’o. I’m proud of Rolo, the coaches, the staff and the players.

I don’t know about others, but I’m very excited as to what the Warriors are gonna do this coming season. AND I CANT WAIT!

    LIVE ALOHA, PLAY WARRIOR!

I always see Bennett at Hawaii Kai Costco. He’s easy to pick out in Hawaii. Not too many big popolo guys walking around Costco.

What a terrific groundswell of support for the coaches and players. Hope the team is getting fired up – I know I sure am.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

How’s KT doing? His presence is missed. Any inside access info?

If we could have more NFL, NBA, MLB or ex-Pro players willing to retire and move to Hawaii!!! We can build up strong support for the program!! Then, some of their kids may decide to go to UH to play sports in the future…

Straight up, if I’m a D-lineman, I want tips from Michael Bennett. That is awesome!!! Great to see so many taking an interest in the team.

Hoping KT did not tweak his right arm after that late push he got from behind during last weeks Oklahoma drill.

Like what Rolo is doing so far! I think we will become contenders in the MW year in and year out under Rolo. Please show support people and get your season tickets! I had a bad feeling about Chow from the day he was hired, but I have a really good feel on what Rolo will do for the State and our football program.

I may be a bad fan but I was optimistic when Von Appen was hired, optimistic when Jones was hired, optimistic when Mac was hired, optimistic when Chow was hired and now Rolo. Disappointed? Sure, but always optimistic and hopeful that things will get better. No blaming, that’s behind stuff. Can’t change that, but can be hopeful of what could be. GO Warriors!

SPECTATORS AT U.H. PRACTICES SHOULD VOLUNARILY SIGN A WAIVER THAT THEY ARE AND WILL NOT ACTIVELY RECRUIT OR RECOMMEND HAWAII HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES FOR THEIR ALMA MATERS.

I’m sitting with friends at Market Street Café in the Cal and I see this attractive oriental lady coming toward our table with a huge smile – recognition, but who would think that I would see Slugger, with full on make up, walking over from her table.

Every other Sunday, she has a radio show playing Hawaiian “music” as part of her show – she does other hip hop songs, but the Hawaiian songs top the list.

She is in Vegas to see her Mom and attend her sister’s wedding – it’s a 4 hour drive from Flagstaff, Arizona to Vegas. So I met her Mom, Mrs Chun, and we chatted for nearly 10 minutes. Service was very, very slow!!!

She says “hi” to all and may not be able to make the Arizona game.

Bennett married a local girl I think. He bought a house in Hawaii Loa Ridge.
