Cal Baptist swept UCI this season, they are probably a tougher test than UCI.
I’m perplexed how Hawaii handled Northridge rather easily at Northridge but then Northridge gives Stanford and Long Beach more of a battle than UH did.
Match ups play a huge part in volleyball. A #20 team can play a hard nosed match with #1, but then get demolished by a #13, for example. Because they have a better match up with the #1. It’s not everything, obviously, but match ups do play a part in a match up.
Anyway…I’m getting a huge man crush on our freshman setter, Worsley. Kid is killing it. I love Jennings…really do, but Joe is proving his worth. Really happy is chose Hawaii and will be with us for the next 4 years. This kid can flat out play the game of volleyball. If he had Jennings height and jumping ability…good grief!! LOVE YOU JOE!!! (I’ll be the one with a GI JOE sign at the next vball game…just kidding, I don’t do signs) 🙂
Hi Cindy, (really trying not to say Hey, it’s a natural beginner for me)
Any inside scoop on 2017 recruiting? Transfer talks? Anything? People maybe waiting to hear what Shoji is going to do. I think he is out of here after this year. Leaves team with a decent nucleus for new coach, but knows this year’s team is a legitimate title contender if the chip falls our way, players stay healthy and a little luck happens. This years team is talented enough that if the everything falls in place, like it did for Nebraska, and almost Kansas, this past year, they can win the big one!
Sorry, one more thing. Has anything come out of the tryouts with Nikki? Did I miss anything?
thought someone mentioned that she wasn’t selected.
Believe she is awaiting word from top tier team. Believe someone mentioned she was not selected and did not clarify that it was for lower tier teams. Also, believe SA had an article regarding this topic, believe there is a personal expense so players can turn down invite if selected. Guessing when invite is made and whatever her decision, someone will share with media.
So far, No Nikki on either the China or Europe tour teams, per Volleytalk website.
Here are the two press releases for the China and European traveling teams:
http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Volleyball/Features/2016/March/18/US-Collegiate-National-Team-China-Tour-Roster-Named
http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Volleyball/Features/2016/March/21/US-Collegiate-National-Team-Europe-Tour-Roster-Named
The last team is to be announced any day now. Last year it was announced on April 9. More info on the teams can be found here:
http://www.teamusa.org/usa-volleyball/usa-teams/indoor volleyball/women/national-team-tryouts/event-information
Everyone here is correct with Nikki not currently named to a roster. The Europe and China rosters both were previously announced. There is also the Collegiate National Teams that go to Junior Nationals to play each other and that is a combined 36 players. If anything there could be a possibility for her to train with the National Team but we will find out soon. The Collegiate National Team will most likely be released in the near future, possibly tomorrow I think.
The U.S. National team already has 3 overpowering opposites: Karsta Lowe – 6’4″, Nicole Fawcett – 6’4″, and Kelly Murphy – 6’2″. (Lowe and Fawcett have garnered International Tournament MVP awards.) Nikki is more finesse than brute power (high hands vs overpowering the block) . Still, a consistent killer serve and high hitting percentage may get her a professional contract.
Congrats to katie S. and Emily M. for winning the gold division today.
I wonder why the McNamara twins for UCLA didn’t play today.

I looked at both rosters to China and Europe, and aside from Kansas setter Havili, the big names in college aren’t really there. I know Anae, who was on last year’s Junior National Team, tried out and I don’t see her name on either of the two rosters.
It wouldn’t be a bad thing if Nikki doesn’t make it, It would give her some time off to rest up for a few months after the beach season.
Things aren’t looking so great in Santa Barbara, Fey and Siki struggling again.
Hope Katie and Emily play the twins from ucla tomorrow.
Why does it matter who Em and katie play, I doubt Coach Hall will be switching flights at this point.
There is no more pairs championship so it doesnt matter who plays at the top flight!
Warriors lose tonight, not sure what happened to Siki but he only played one set and hit negative, Fey wasnt much better.
Time to bench Kanetake imo, he got outdug again by Worsley getting only three digs in four sets by your libero wont get it done.
I would love to see Charlie experiment with Worsley at Libero and put Jennings back in. I don’t think he will bench Kanetake tho. Not unless his back gets really bad.
#17 take it easy. I hope they get to play the twins. I want to see them play the best.
Schrieber and Taylor up 13-10 and a set then they get outscored 26-12 the rest of the way to lose the match and for UCLA to take the win, doh.
Too lazy to look it up…sorry, I’m super sick and just want to go back to bed.
But, can someone put up the ucla vs Hawaii flight results.
Anyone got any info on how the men played the second match against ucsb?
Sorry for being lazy. But thanks in advance. 🙂
yep sad, Cindy on the mainland and no backup. Nothing in the Sunday paper.

Thanks rabbit
Interesting moving mags and spieler down to third flight.
it was a type-o from bruins site. The article said maglio and spieler won at 2.
Maybe old news to a few, Hawaii’s opening match on August 26 has Wisconsin at 7pm. Kansas St and Arizona are the two others in the tournament. Tournament #2 has Missouri St, Pacific and UCLA. #3 has Utah Valley, No. Illinois and Washington. Pepperdine is scheduled for 2 matches before the BW road trip at UCSB and Cal Poly.
thanks, mauna.
that’s a formidable non-conference schedule. i like it! some big names, and a good mix of teams from the across the country.
thanks for everyone helping out while I was on the mainland with family stuff.
Utah Valley was a late addition after someone pulled out, forget who.
