Maybe Olivia can get a BWC PotW for her birthday week.
Welcome home! What a fantastic road trip! To the players, coaches, and staff, congrats and thank you for your hard work and dedication. At the beginning of the season, many had high hopes for this team. At the end of conference play, this team has met and exceeded our expectations. The wahines are now often recognized as among the nation’s best. No one can ask for more. Best wishes in the post season play, and hoping the team catch a little luck with seeding and favorable draws in the early rounds.
A WRAP OF UH’s NONCONFERENCE OPPONENTS (November 23, 2015)
[This introduction is a repeat of a previous post, so ignore if you already read it before. UH played 10 nonconf. opponents, and 5 of these are from confs. with a conf. tournament and 5 of these are from confs. without a conf. tournament. Of the 5 from confs. with a championship tournament, 4 UH oppositions were seeded either #1 or #2 (Seed No. 1 American, Seed No. 2 CSU Bakersfield, Seed No. 2 Idaho, and Seed No. 1 Wichita State).
Of the 5 from confs. without tournaments, 2 (Florida and UCLA) are likely to end the regular-conf. season in the Top 4 of their Power5 league standings, and thus will receive an at-large bid — but it’s no longer a certainty either will be rewarded with a top 16 seed. Unfortunately, 2 other Power5 opponents (Oregon St and Iowa) are in contention to win their league’s “bottom feeder” label.]
(Part 1)
American (27-6) [77 rpi] … Seed No. 1 American swept Seed No. 2 Army West Point (21-10) to capture the Patriot League Championship – its 13th conference title in 15 seasons — and the automatic qualifier to postseason play.
CSU Bakersfield (13-15) [130 rpi] … Seed No. 2 CSUB, which finished 2nd in WAC standings during the regular conference season, lost to Seed No. 1 New Mexico State (27-5) in the Final of the WAC Championship. CSUB is mathematically eliminated from consideration for an at-large bid.
Eastern Washington (14-14) [193 rpi] … Seed No. 6 E. Washington lost to Seed No. 3 Idaho St in a Big Sky Tournament Quarterfinal match. 2015 campaign for the Eagles is pau.
Florida (21-6) [5 rpi] … SEC Standings (13-team SEC does not have a conf. tournament):
1. Texas A&M (21-6, 14-2) beat Florida (Aggies first-ever victory in 12 all-time meetings with Florida) and clinched at least a share of the SEC title; vs. Missouri (led by Honolulu’s Carly Kan) on 11/25, vs. Arkansas on 11/28.
2. Missouri (25-4, 13-3) vs. Texas A&M on 11/25, vs. South Carolina on 11/27.

4. Florida (21-6, 13-5) lost to Texas A&M in their SEC finale and finished the league dropping 2 of their last 5 matches besides losing this season to 4 out of 5 Top 25 teams they met; vs. LIU-Brooklyn (nonconf.) on 11/27.
Idaho (14-16)[174 rpi] … Seed No. 2 Idaho (winner of the Big Sky’s North Division during the regular conference season) lost to Seed No. 3 Idaho St (runner-up to Northern Arizona in the stronger South Division) in one of the Big Sky Semifinals and with that lost saw its 2015 season come to an end. … Seed No. 1 Northern Arizona (28-4), winner of the other Semifinals, went on to beat Idaho St (23-10) for the Big Sky Championship crown and will be going dancing at the Big Dance for only the 2nd time in school history.
(Part 2)
Iowa (12-19) [76 rpi] … Iowa’s 2015 season is mathematically ended, and while some schools with a 0% chance of postseason play play on for pride, not the black-eyed Hawkeyes who have lost 16 Big Ten matches out of 18 … Last Stand: vs. Maryland on 11/25, vs. Michigan St on 11/28 … Big Ten Standings (14-team Big Ten does not have a conf. tournament):

San Diego St (11-19) [148 rpi] … Last Stand: vs. Nevada on 11/24 … Standings: San Diego St with an 8-9 w-l conf. record currently stands 6th in the 11-team Mountain West Conference, which does not have a conf. tournament, and the Aztecs are playing Nevada for pride as they hope to end their season by winning 5 of their last 6 matches … Colorado St (24-3, 17-0) predictably clinched the MW’s automatic qualifier bid to the NCAA tournament.
