Purdue up 2-0 over Minny! B1G is crazy this year!

  3. Ashley November 21, 2015 3:55 pm

won’t be able to catch the game tonight. good luck ladies

  4. Doug November 21, 2015 4:01 pm

Continuing from previous thread about recruiting height. I remember coach saying height without quickness is useless, or words to that effect.
Our middles this year got some hops and quickness.

  5. Ron November 21, 2015 4:02 pm

    Thanks greenthumb!

  6. jmy November 21, 2015 4:35 pm

    Purdue about to upset Minn…

  7. AdmrVT November 21, 2015 5:17 pm

Doug, you are correct. Focusing just on height will lead to disappointment.

  8. greenthumb November 21, 2015 5:22 pm

    You’re welcome, Ron! Go Bows!

  9. warriorfan November 21, 2015 5:27 pm

In case anyone is interested, Norene Iosia’s redondo Union team plays Mater Dei for the Southern section CIF title. on channel 226 on Oceanic cable, 692 on directv, 417 on dish at 6 pm.

  10. Not an Expert November 21, 2015 5:29 pm

Let’s say everything else being equal except the front row of one team is 6’4″ across the net the other is 6′ and under. Who would win the majority of the time.

Wonder the last 10 teams in women volleyball who won the NCAA title, did they have a front row height average 6′ or less or were they 6’3″ and taller?

  11. Wen November 21, 2015 5:31 pm

    Senior night for the Gauchos?

  12. frings November 21, 2015 5:38 pm

Watching feed on Big West TV. Spotlights and breathless announcing just to get swept?

  13. greenthumb November 21, 2015 5:45 pm

Nice serving run by Greeley … I think the feed is just above some #11 supporters.

  14. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 5:46 pm

UH up 10-4 on a serving run by Greeley. TO Gauchos. UH 7-0-10

  15. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 5:47 pm

Yes, senior night for Gauchos and 5 seniors.

  17. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 5:53 pm

Ace by Taylor Makes it 18-11 TO Gauchos.

  18. haleiwacrossfitter November 21, 2015 5:55 pm

Our blocking is definitely not as strong. I know it has something to do with teams adjusting to our block like avoiding it, tipping over it, etc. But our numbers are definitely getting lower and lower each match.

Hopefully come tourney time and the other teams will just try to hit through it and get it blocked back in their faces. πŸ™‚

Because I do think that the numbers not being so high is due to it being our conference opponents and playing them 2 times a year.

  19. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 6:00 pm

Manu-Olevao with the overpass. UH wins 25-16.

  20. haleiwacrossfitter November 21, 2015 6:02 pm

    Love this song….

  21. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 6:02 pm

    18. Hawaii still leads the country and the conference in blocks. I wouldn’t be too worried. You have a good point in that seeing a team a second time, teams able to adjust.

  22. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 6:06 pm

Higgins serves UH to a 6-0 lead. service error makes it 6-1

  23. haleiwacrossfitter November 21, 2015 6:09 pm

    Good defense by both teams

  24. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 6:11 pm

    Around the Big West Saturday
Long Beach at UCR, 49ers up 2-0
UC Davis at UC Irvine, tied 1-1
CSUN at Fullerton, Titans up 1-0

  25. haleiwacrossfitter November 21, 2015 6:12 pm

We need better blocking coverage for Nikki. That was the 2nd or 3rd this match that her blocked shot is not even attempted at getting dug back up

  26. haleiwacrossfitter November 21, 2015 6:13 pm

Tai is playing great so far tonight!!

  27. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 6:15 pm

Wahine with their first block Makes it 15-8 at the TTO

  28. greenthumb November 21, 2015 6:15 pm

Random, any guesses whether the online viewers outnumber the people in the bleachers?

  29. haleiwacrossfitter November 21, 2015 6:15 pm

Stats show we only had 1 block. We had more than that.

  30. mei mei November 21, 2015 6:16 pm

Gauchos def. hitting to avoid the block… too many hitting errors

  31. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 6:17 pm

No, UH only has one block.

  32. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 6:18 pm

    30. agree. part of the reason there are so few blocks is when teams try to avoid it and end up going long.

  33. haleiwacrossfitter November 21, 2015 6:18 pm

    29. Yeah, it’s pretty empty in that gym

  34. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 6:19 pm

    28. I would guess that Hawaii has plenty of fans there. But you know UCSB draws fairly well from students.

  35. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 6:21 pm

My feeling too is that teams get worn down by the UH height and as the match goes on teams are tired and UH able to get more blocks late.

  36. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 6:22 pm

Gauchos close to 20-14. TO UH

  37. mei mei November 21, 2015 6:22 pm

    auuughhh passing woes! πŸ™

  38. Big Island VB fan November 21, 2015 6:23 pm

Does anyone know how to access the California State Division 1 High School championship match online as it is going on right now? Please help with URL.

  39. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 6:23 pm

It was 20-10. Last two points were aces, one off Manu-Olevao, the other off Kahakai.

  40. greenthumb November 21, 2015 6:23 pm

    That’s more like it!

  41. haleiwacrossfitter November 21, 2015 6:24 pm

    35. that’s true. They tend to get more blocks as the night goes along. Sometimes in bunches. Let’s hope so tonight. I love it when they block balls. My favorite part of the game.

  42. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 6:25 pm

    38. do you have TWC for cable. it is on OC226.

  43. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 6:27 pm

    UH up 23-16. TO UCSB.

Mater Dei up 20-14 over Redondo Union. Set 1

  44. haleiwacrossfitter November 21, 2015 6:27 pm

    38. Not sure if it is online. Just on fox sports. I’m DVR’ing it.

  45. greenthumb November 21, 2015 6:28 pm

38 looks like Comcast and Time Warner Cable both have streaming if you are a subscriber to one of those

  46. Big Island VB fan November 21, 2015 6:28 pm

    42. There is no cable in my area. Is there a way to access online streaming? I wanted to watch Norene Iosia play for the state title.

  47. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 6:30 pm

UCSB closes to 23-21. TO UH
some of the chemistry disrupted by Granato and Castillo subbing in. But as Shoji said, he is committed to playing his bench.

  48. greenthumb November 21, 2015 6:31 pm

Scratch Comcast, but TWC looks like it has it… my one sadness about switching from Oceanic to Hawaiian Tel is TWC’s streaming was much more robust.

    http://www.twcsportschannel.com/ca/socal/cif-sports.html

  49. haleiwacrossfitter November 21, 2015 6:31 pm

Oh man…I just put my finger on something. Tai reminds me of Jessica Sudduth. They play the same. When they are on, they are great. When they are off, all aspects of their game are off. Passing, blocking, hitting…even when it comes to just hitting the ball to get it over the net on a bad pass. They play the same. I just made the connection and comparison.

  50. mei mei November 21, 2015 6:33 pm

luuuuuve when they block for the set!

  51. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 6:33 pm

    UH wins 25-21.

BIF, did you try googling it.
BTW, Mater Dei wins set 1 25-21

  52. Ki November 21, 2015 6:34 pm

Whew! Hawai’i escapes with a second set win. They led 20 -10 at one point only to give away 12 points to win by a 25 – 21 score.

  53. Beauston November 21, 2015 6:34 pm

Shoji did not respect UCSB and they responded. Wahine almost lost set 2. When they were up double most of the time. I hate to say this, but he needs to quit doing these crazy subs or round 2 is as far as well go post season.

  54. greenthumb November 21, 2015 6:34 pm

46, maybe it will get posted to YouTube soon after the conclusion?

  55. warriorfan November 21, 2015 6:35 pm

They shouldn’t lose so much momentum with just a few subs this late in the season, UCSB is not a good team.

  56. haleiwacrossfitter November 21, 2015 6:35 pm

I hate when I see the other team outblocking us. x-(

  57. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 6:36 pm

    49. sorry see no similarities. Manu-Olevao much more explosive. and athletic. Love Jess tho. She is married to former Warrior O. Kaven IYDK

  58. haleiwacrossfitter November 21, 2015 6:37 pm

No, I think he needs to play his subs. They were far ahead enough where they could. The subs need playing time.

  59. haleiwacrossfitter November 21, 2015 6:38 pm

Not similarities in playing styles, they are completely different players…but in how they respond to situations. Really on when on…really off when off.

  60. warriorfan November 21, 2015 6:39 pm

Rice going to UCSB can not pass which for a 5’10ish outside hitter is a problem.. Makes it hard for Redondo.

  61. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 6:39 pm

    53. Oh please, they were up by 10. he subbed. UCSB came back He went back to starters. They win. Just can’t win can they with whatever they do. If they crushed it 25-11 people would be complaining that they should have had the bench in.

  62. Beauston November 21, 2015 6:40 pm

The look confused towards the end of set 2 before the last OT with that revolving door hence the poor reception on serve receive. Too many things were happening when they should just close out the set.

  63. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 6:40 pm

    Beach wins 25-19, 25-17, 25-15 over UCR.

  64. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 6:42 pm

My point exactly. they were up 20-10. he felt comfortable enough to sub.

  65. 'ohanaInBellingham November 21, 2015 6:42 pm

Mahalo for the Redondo Union-Mater Dei match updates and color!

  66. AdmrVT November 21, 2015 6:44 pm

#53. Easy to say. Fuss with chemistry, lose momentum & rhythm, and you invite to he other team to play up. You can’t just expect to “plug n’ play.”

  67. Beauston November 21, 2015 6:46 pm

61 not one to complain about Shoji not letting the bench players play, in fact im against it. Ruins the team chemistry. Looking at the PSU’s and USC in the VBall tier, no one does a whole sale sub like Shoji does. Sure different coach, diff. system and ways. JMHO

  68. haleiwacrossfitter November 21, 2015 6:50 pm

Beauston…they need to play their subs. We will need them in tourney time.

People complain when they don’t play, complain when they do play.

We need them to play. They need the experience.

I can’t wait for Annie to get back, too!!

  69. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 6:50 pm

    67. He didn’t do a whole sale sub. He put in Granato, a few points later he put in Castillo. BTW UH up 9-5

  70. warriorfan November 21, 2015 6:51 pm

Shoji gets grief if he doesn’t play his subs at all in blowouts and now when he does play them he gets grief for playing them lol. It wasn’t his fault IMO
the players should not lose focus and close out teams.

  71. MAKA November 21, 2015 6:57 pm

    Close your eyes time.
    They in a passing mode.

  72. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 7:00 pm

UH up 20-13 on Maglio’s overpass. TO UCSB

  73. warriorfan November 21, 2015 7:01 pm

    Redondo wins the second easily
Iosia sets are so nice, she never seems rushed or flustered, very calm demeanor.

Rice has a cannon of an arm but watching USCB she wont be getting nice sets all the time like she does with Iosia.

  74. MAKA November 21, 2015 7:03 pm

    oops sorry…wrong blog…that should be for the football team…down 28 – 0

  75. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 7:03 pm

Not faulting him for subbing. Obviously chemistry changes when it happens. UCSB closes to 21-15.

  76. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 7:05 pm

Redondo wins 25-16. Rice has a lot of shots. CC, line, and sharp angle.

  77. Big Island VB fan November 21, 2015 7:06 pm

    31. I tried Googling before you told me but still I couldn’t find a link online. I don’t have satellite dish either so I guess I can’t access that match. At least I can watch the tail end of the Hawaii-UCSB match.

  78. greenthumb November 21, 2015 7:06 pm

    73 uh-oh

  79. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 7:06 pm

UCSB closes to 21=18. TO UH.

  80. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 7:08 pm

    UH wins 25-19.

  81. 'ohanaInBellingham November 21, 2015 7:10 pm

    WF #72: I concur.

  82. Big Island VB fan November 21, 2015 7:13 pm

Thanks for all the suggestions for viewing the California state championship. I’ll try YouTube when the time is appropriate.

  83. greenthumb November 21, 2015 7:13 pm

Sweet 16 — conference wins, that is πŸ˜‰

  84. HawaiiMongoose November 21, 2015 7:18 pm

Great job by Dave, his staff, and the players. Congratulations Wahine!

Cindy, thank you for your real-time coverage and responses to questions on the blog, much appreciated.

  85. warriorfan November 21, 2015 7:19 pm

congrats to the wahine finishing undeafeated in the big west, I think they can do it again next year.

  86. warriorfan November 21, 2015 7:21 pm

Norene’s serve is very Croson like.

  87. jmy November 21, 2015 7:22 pm

Great season for UH…Don’t think that any other Big West team will make it into the tourney…Most at-large bids will go to the Big 10, Pac-12 & SEC…

  88. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 7:26 pm

    83. you’r e welcome. was actually supposed to be at a reception for the UCLA chancellor at Outrigger CC but sometimes work gets in the way.

biggest question can Fullerton win its first. they were up 2-0, lost Set 3 26-24.

  89. Not an Expert November 21, 2015 7:32 pm

If there is no difference of opinions it makes for a uninteresting blog.

All fans agrees great win. All fans agree okay to lose. All fans agree the coach’s decision is right and not question anything that coach does. All fans agree everything the host states.

If so no need to comment and let the host or reporter say everything. No blogging accepted.

People gives their opinions so be it. People who gives it must accept the opposite perspective. Must be all civilized and in good taste. If you dish it out and can’t take it and get upset about it so be it with you. However one’s ranting should be kept to themselves.

Another thing agreement or agreeing with someone else does not make that the truth.

  90. rage777 November 21, 2015 7:39 pm

Mater Dec up 2-1 to RUHS. RUHS up 7-3 in 4th set

  91. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 7:45 pm

    86. Never know. if anyone it would be The Beach. They are 23-6, have two noncomference matches later this week they should win over Pacific and Denver.

  92. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 7:47 pm

    Davis wins at UCI, 25-23, 18-25, 25-18, 25-15, 15-9

  93. Vbfan4life November 21, 2015 7:53 pm

Go bows! Nice win for them tonight。

If the beach wins against pacific and Denver will that push up their RPI to above fifty and therefore we get the bonus points

  94. warriorfan November 21, 2015 7:54 pm

    Redondo can not pass.

  95. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 8:03 pm

Mater Dei def. Redondo Union in 4. RU was up 20-18, MD went on 4-0 run.
RU ties it at 24 but Mater Dei wins 26-14.

  96. warriorfan November 21, 2015 8:03 pm

Not the best match for Norene , some miscues with her middles, and Rice way too many shanks and hitting errors. Redondo passers though, all of them were not very good.

  97. warriorfan November 21, 2015 8:05 pm

Mater Dei has some nice players though, I wonder who is recruiting Scully she was clutch, their freshmen setter will probably go to a big school.

  98. jmy November 21, 2015 8:06 pm

Where is Shannon Scully going? Seems like she’ll have a bright collegiate career…

  99. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 8:07 pm

2 of RU’s losses were to Mater Dei, the first one in 5.

  100. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 8:11 pm

    Scully a junior. don’t know.

  101. Ron November 21, 2015 8:16 pm

I thought Norene was terrific. She is so smooth and bettered almost every pass. Her serving, defense, and “court smarts” were evident. Redondo was basically a two man team. I also thought that Scully was the best hitter on the court and Mater Dei was the better team tonight. Maybe they will play each other again in States.

  102. 'ohanaInBellingham November 21, 2015 8:30 pm

Na Wahine didn’t look like they were any worse for wear from the grueling seven-day road trip. Maybe Tony Cox just earned his airfare to the playoffs.

  103. Bleachercoach November 21, 2015 8:39 pm

Sorry was not able to watch match..it’s not the subs fault for lack of chemistry…but still think our Granato (OH) and Castillo (OH/MB) are very good. They need all the experience they can get and Castillo IMO did not see as many minutes as a sub as Granato. I still have this inner gut feeling that Castillo needs more of any opportunity at OH…but then again I am not at practice….The team is blessed and fortunate to have a season as they did. It is an amazing season exceeding all my expectations. I am not complaining because as a TEAM we are 26-1 Baby!!! And we are going to the “Dance”.

  104. AdmrVT November 21, 2015 8:44 pm

#100. Undecided yet. Think they said USC, Irvine & Santa Clara interested.

  105. Bleachercoach November 21, 2015 8:59 pm

At least the team can rest a full week to get back in the classroom, recuperate, and refocus for following weekend. We can do it!!!

  106. Lei November 21, 2015 9:39 pm

Good job Wahine…Noreen has sweet hands… Noreen and Savanah Kahakai played club together…

  107. mo-jo November 21, 2015 10:18 pm

Anyone understand why the replay was blocked with the following message: “This video contains content from SME, who has blocked it on copyright grounds.” Great to go undefeated … but agree with 107. This not the Pac12 or BTN.
Looking at live stats.. is there any reason with the exception of Kalei, why OHs and Taylor hit low percentages in this match? I thought our blocks and outside hitting would be better against UCSB.

  108. mo-jo November 21, 2015 10:19 pm

    meant agree with 103. :o)

  109. Cindy Luis November 21, 2015 10:27 pm

Sometimes the match plays out the way it does. It may have been not the prettiest but they still swept.
Need to remember this was their fourth match in seven days. They were tired but I think t’s impressive the way they finished.

didn’t want to folks to miss the picture that the SID posted. See new thread.
