lets go bows! push aside american and get some deflects ready.
For those wanting to deplore/bemoan/lament/denounce UH’s non-conference schedule, below are the current records:
Idaho 1-5
Wichita State 3-3
Oregon State 2-4
Iowa 2-3
UCLA 3-1
American 3-2
San Diego State 1-4
Florida 4-0
Eastern Washington 3-3
CSU Bakersfield 1-6
Total 23-31 (.426)
They play basketsfield twice? Ugh hate the schedule still. Oh well.
Granato starting in place of Manu-Olevao
Will someone tell the announcer that Emily Maglio is a sophomore, not a freshman? Two nights in a row he has gotten it wrong.
UH up 7-2. TO American
Much better start and play so far.
Mags with the step-out?
Wondering about the first match result. Did UCLA handle Iowa?
Oh no hope nikki is okay:( darn it
Huff in for Taylor who headed to the locker room. it’s 10-6.
I really hope nikki is ok.
Granato blocked, American has closed to 10-9. TO UH.
Yea hope its not serious but with her injury proneness 🙁
Time for Megan to step up.
9. yes. previous thread has scores
Manu-Olevao back in for Granato. Huff hits long, American up 11-10. taylor is back
Yay nikki back in maybe just needed a break.
These last ten points have been horrendous hope they refocus.
Too many service errors.
I think time to start Annie.
Nikki having breathing problem.
Kahakai seems to set real good.
Gotta love livestats:
[Vlaanderen, Shelby] Kill by Maglio, Emily (from Burns, Natasha).
UH up 23-20. TO American
14. don’t know. she came back and tapped her chest. said she was OK.
Taylor ends it 25-22. she is 7-0-10
All Nikki.
16. Mahalo Cindy.
Nikki looks great, showing last nights hitting percantage was an aberration.
They were saying that when Nikki went out she was using an inhaler. Before that on the court I noticed that she was hunched over and breathing hard.
anyone know what’s going on with the stats? Tried a couple of times and got the game with Idaho…
@ryankaleitsuji: UH takes set 1 25-22 over American. Nikki Taylor continues to use an inhaler during TO’s after being taken out at the beginning of the set
Nice head block.
Stats have been all over the place all afternoon not sure why.
She has used an inhaler before. There are HIPAA issues that I don’t get into.
as for the stats. who knows.
UH up 3-0 in Set 2
I had no idea Nikki has asthma.
Higgins playing much better tonight.
UH up 9-3. TO American
38. helps when the passing is better.
Would not be surprised to see Mitchem in for Maglio by Set 3.
Hitting error by American. UH up 19-14. TO Eagles
Good news is Maglio can pound it. Some great hits from her today. Higgins is setting a beautiful match.
40. Agree.
I might have missed this, but does anyone know why Clare-Marie has not served tonight?
nice to see Tai smiling and playing loose
43. Shoji is giving all DS a chance. it’s Guinasso today. Anderson and Ponce yesterday.
Greeley with her fifth kill, ends it at 25-18
I love how really has performed so far this season and her improvement from LY.
You can tell, she’s been working really hard.
Best match of the season. Hawaii playing amazing .
Still haven’t been impressed by Guinasso. Ponce and Marie-Anderson seem to be a little above her.
Mitchem in for Maglio
Not sure I’d say amazing but definitely better than last night , still wanna see more from Mags , hope Annie plays the third set.
Tayler doing a nice job tonight.
Wahine need to close it out early so they can rest up for tomorrow.
@51. disagree.
That’s why we need Tai.
TMO is great when she is on but very inconsistent.
Greeley has been great all season.
Mitchem just causes problems with her presence and athletic abilities.
Please start Annie.
The slide would work against this team.
Castillo in for Manu-Olevao
51. Guinasso didn’t have much time on the court. Magill with a kill, it’s 15-11 at the TTO
51. continuing about Guinasso, she served six times. immediately left after two service errors for Kahakai.
Even when she has had extended time, Guinasso hasn’t stood out like how people say she has.
Wahine up 17-13. TO Eagles
Wahine getting out-blocked. I hope Tayler gets one. I think she has at least one in every match so far.
Guinasso has been fine, why point her out?? Last year she seemed to serve alot when she was put in which is her job this year she’s played what two sets?? Not sure why anyone would say they aren’t impressed with such a small sample size.
Tickets 6,525. turnstile 4989.
American has closed to 17-16. TO UH
65. Guinasso has played in all of 4 sets this season, including 2 tonight.
And that is why it should be Clare.
UH up 22-18 on a block by Magill and Manu-Olevao. TO Eagles
Maglio struggles 2 night in a row now
I’m basing my opinion from last year and this year.
But yes no reason to single her out.
I like Mags but I think she’s still a year away from really being a solid player, which is why Annie should be starting IMO.
Mitchem with the solo stuff. ends it 25-20
65. Guinasso needs more time for you to say that. Last year, she was the last person off the bench, still did fine. All three DSs have been doing well. Anderson has been impressive this year. Ponce I thought was the best server of all the DSs last year.
Anderson is amazing, Ponce and Baby G prety good, very quality walk ons UH is very lucky to have all three IMO.
Great game IMO, TMO played great again, I think she should be kept off backrow duty against UCLA.
If Greeley gets more kills she could be an all american ( at least honorable mention) this season, She is hitting for a great percentage. I hope she gets set more.
Much more diversified attack tonight. Five players with double digit attempts and Taylor with just 24 swings total.
According to her social media, Natasha Burns out three more weeks, bummer.
Probably going to redshirt.
Stats was nuts tonight. At one point they had Burns with an assist.
Kalei is putting up AA numbers.
If it wasn’t for a couple of late errors at aloha ball in set 4 against WSU , Greeley would have hit over .300 in every game this season. Hope she gets more sets.
If Greeley can keep it up, she has a chance at All-America honors. Taylor’s numbers are insane.
82. KPG is too low for now though, needs to get over 3.5 KPG for an OH.
That is a bummer for Burns to be out three more weeks. Looks like repeat of Taylor from last year. On that note i thought Smith from American looks almost like Burns.
UCLA got cpl trees in the middle, hope Wahine can handle them.
Tai had a good night again.
Girls seem to be relaxed from the very start and it carried through the match. So happy to see Tai relaxed. She was blasting away as always but hitting really smartly. Hope she continues to trust in her God given skills and not overthink. In regards to Olivia, does she seem to be really trying to be hitting a lot harder than before. It seems to have started in the last game where she is really leaning into the hit.
According to some VT posters the TV announcers stated that Nikki Taylor is using an inhaler due to asthma. I wonder if she has what I have, exercise-induced asthma. I used to joke that I got sick from exercising!
88. it was mentioned here (see No. 11) that Taylor was out. and then starting (see No. 22) about Taylor’s breathing problem. I later . mentioned that Taylor has used an inhaler before. She never said it was asthma. What she said after the match was that she needed to catch her breath and needed a few moments to do so.
As for TV, I know that Tsuji tweeted something
86. odd. was told she wasn’t seeing the doctor again unit Tuesday.
I stated that Olevao maybe good coming as a sub. Being dynamic and inconsistent a person like her can be more of a weapon off the bench. Brings in a different look and if she is on the other team will not be ready for her. Still think Shoji needs to play her in the front row only. Doing so will give her more success as an outside hitter.
they are giving it a try for now. that she doesn’t have to be in the passing formation has taken some pressure off her. she hasn’t had a hitting error in two matches. the 727 (8-0-11) was a career high tonight.
As long as Tai uses the “force” and not think so much about everything she’s doing, she’ll do fine. She proved it tonight. She can be the ol’ Tai and be back to the six rotation player she was before. Look at all the smiles that were predominating their huddles. Get her and several other players like the freshmen, Higgins, Mitchem and Maglio to just use the “force” and they’ll annihilate UCLA! They just have to trust in their instincts and we will see a sixth win! :o)
Duly impressed by UCLA’s Fast Attack. Very good passing and the low arcing sets continually gave UCLA a 1-on-1. UCLA scored at will; MH, OH, OPP, it did not matter. Hawaii will have their hands full, Bruins have 2 each 6’5″ MHs and Claire Felix (6’6″)
Cappellino is only 5 -9, but it doesn’t seem to hinder her effectiveness. Smith is only a freshman and looked good on some blocks.
Who is the young man who is seen instructing the UH girls during the timeouts ? He’s in the team picture but not listed on the coaching roster.
It pays to play pepper with the coach, as Gianna played more last night.
Tai showed us the real talent she brings to the court when she is “on”. I am really impressed with the coaching that has gone into this project. Dave has done a great job in keeping all three middles playing and learning. I hope he continues to give Castillo court time. She is a legit. 6 rotation player who could be the next Greeley. I love watching this team grow and evolve. I am starting to think that Higgins has improved as much as anyone. Anyway I love her spunk! Next stop, beat Cindy’s alma mater.
#96 I really like the play of Casey also. With the exception of the first shank, she did a great job of receiving/passing. Very impressive! Huge upside potential of a 6’3″ OH who can play all 6 rotations and be potential primary passer. Outstanding MH/OH in high school. Goes well for the future.
Maglio has such a upside. She has the quickness to get out to the pin. She needs to play!!
Something Chris and Kanoa mentioned during the broadcast is that Magill does great considering she mainly only hits the one set with an occasional three.
The setting against American was much improved over Iowa.
94. hard to gauge UCLA based on who they were playing the past two days. Freshman setter impressed Shoji.
Sealy was impressed with UH’s athleticism.
Hard to believe he’s been gone 6 years.
Sealy said they were still trying to find themselves and that they weren’t who they are against LMU. he’s had a couple of days surfing. He used to live in Kailua and told him Popoi’a and Na Mokulua were pumping although somewhat closed out.
99. and the passing was better which allowed the setting to be better.
Magill is somewhat one dimensional but this is only her second year in this system. feel she was underutilized at UA.
