Rasmussen, Hittner earn scholarships
The Warriors not only have a traditionally strong walk-on program, but they have been generous in rewarding good-character, hard-working players.
Nose tackle Kory Rasmussen and long-snapper Brian Hittner are the latest walk-ons to be awarded football scholarships. If there’s space, the Warriors are expected to present a scholarship or two during training camp.
Here are the former walk-ons now on scholarship:
> Jeremy Castro — Former UCLA player is expected to compete for a starting job at outside linebacker.
> Gaetano DeMattei — He exited spring training as the No. 1 nickelback. He is expected to be fully healed from a leg injury for the start of training camp.
> Josh Donovan — He is one of the top specialists, serving as the edge-setter on kickoffs. He also has developed into a solid safety.
> Brian Hittner — He did not have an errant snap in a nation-leading 86 punt attempts last year.
> Jason Muraoka — The tough running back was the personal protector to Scott Harding on punt attempts last year.
> Damien Packer — He moved back to safety in spring training.
> Ryan Pasoquen — He was the No. 1 nickelback before suffering a season-ending knee injury during the 2012 training camp. Since then, he has switched to offense, where he is in the rotation at slotback.
> Kory Rasmussen — The Warriors consider every player on the two-deep as a starter. Penitito Faalologo and Rasmussen are atop the chart at nose tackle
> Brenden Urban — He exited spring training as the No. 1 center.
> Max Wittek — Former USC quarterback paid his own tuition and school expenses the past academic year, as well as paid for his travel to six road games last year.
Congrats to Rasmussen and Hittner
Guud Morning Tsaikos….bootiful day.
Hard work paid off….Congrats!
Congrats to both of them for sticking it out. That’s a huge financial burden that has been lifted.
Yep, it does ease a parent’s wallet.
As I always say: Sallie Mae is not your friend.
Kory is a great kid with great parents!! He deserves this, and will be a great player for UH!!
By the way, 34 more days until the start of training camp.
Congrats to Kory, Brian and the other former walk-on players. Their hard work and sacrifices paid off. Their family members must be happy and proud, too. More motivation to the current walk ons on the team.

Right on, Max
Once Football Media Days (28th June) starts, football fever should start to kick in filled with curiosity and anticipation.
I would think the scholarship means more to Hittner, financially, since he is from out of state.
Good morning everyone!
Congrats to Kory Rasmussen and Brian Hittner!
Mahalo for your perseverance and desire to play for Hawaii!
Ahhhh…The Sound of Silence.
Joshua walked his troops around the walls of Jericho without a word.
Maybe UH should try that at Wisconsin and Ohio State…
