Softball notes: Jaramillo transfers to Utah State

Sarina Jaramillo, the Rainbow Wahine softball team’s starting shortstop the last two seasons, has transferred to Utah State. The Aggies announced her addition last week.

Jaramillo started 49 games for the Rainbow Wahine this spring and hit .299 while driving in 18 runs and ended her sophomore season with a .968 fielding percentage. She had a nine-game hitting streak at the end of the nonconference schedule to raise her average to .340 heading into Big West play. While her bat cooled a bit in the conference season, she committed just one error in league games.

As a freshman, Jaramillo started 39 games and hit .264 overall and was named to the All-Big West second team and the all-freshman team.

As for a few of the arrivals for the 2016 season …

>> Jennifer Iseri, a pitcher at Cerritos (Calif.) High School, was named to the CIF Southern Section Division 3 all-star team released on Monday. Iseri and Heather Cameron, another UH signee, helped the Dons reach the CIF-SS Division 3 quarterfinals last month. Iseri, a left-hander, was the Long Beach Press-Telegram Dream Team Player of the Year as a junior.

Iseri held Grand Terrace to three hits in Cerritos’ 3-2 loss in the quarterfinals. The game ended with a controversial triple play in the top of the seventh which began with a juggling catch in right field by Morgan Parsons, a Grand Terrace sophomore who has also committed to UH.

>> Sarah Muzik, a shortstop out of Notre Dame High School in Salinas, Calif., was named to the Monterey Herald’s All-County softball and basketball teams as a senior. Muzik hit .450 in the leadoff spot for the Spirits, who won their third straight CIF Central Coast Section Division 3 title.

>> Mid-Pacific’s Nicole Lopez was a second-team Star-Advertiser all-state pick. Lopez, last year’s All-State position player of the year, moved from third base to shortstop as a senior and hit .425 with five homers this spring.

>> Naomi Monahan of Roseville High School was named to the Sacramento Bee’s All-Metro second team as a utility player.
