Update: ’09 O-line

For all the thing that happened during the 2009 season — Nick Rolovich and Dave Aranda promoted to play-callers, walk-on quarterback Bryant Moniz becoming a starter — overlooked was the talent of the opening-game offensive line.

Here’s the update:

> LT Aaron Kia: After a brief stint with the New York Jets, Kia is now an accomplished tattoo artist and shoe designer.

> LG Ray Hisatake: He is a member of the San Antonio Talons of the Arena Football League. Hisatake is recovering from shoulder surgery in the fall.

> C John Estes: After a career in the NFL, Estes is now playing for the B.C. Lions of the Canadian Football League.

> RG Raphael Ieru: Ieru is now a rap artist who goes by the name Slikk. Here’s his recently released recording: Ya Boy Slikk

> RT Laupepa Letuli: Letuli is now a successful professional musician.

#3 A-house: wow, you must have some super birdies of your own to have heard the latest on me, lol. doing well and enjoying the circle of life with my newborn. although all the graduation talk recently has reminded me I’ll be in my 60’s when he graduates. haha, started late but found a good one.

hope you’re doing good and hope to see you again sometime…hopefully before UH’s next Sugar Bowl otherwise might be a while. Best wishes to you and Mrs. A-House and Midori.

And yes, still got my season tickets AND actually use them.

My resume for loyal UH fan: was among the couple thousand regulars that went to UH basketball during Riley’s first year (and even during the Arnold I years), went to every single game of von Appen’s 0-12 season, and still going this year, even though I’m starting to waver…

is there a way to make efficient use of all the talent in UH Community College system from “blue color” trades, to TIM, to culinary?

seems there should be an opportunity for these students to perform tasks on projects at any UH school project while supervised by their instructors be it electrical, plumbing, carpentry, cooking, etc. they can be paid of for a grade.

maybe the “unions” object to this “free labor” and taking work away from their members?

remember MasaBoy going for internship at Hoku’s for 2 weeks for a “grade” – though he received a $41 tip for working at a “crepe station” at a wedding reception – bride & groom were very impressed with his skills

    truegreen:

no waiver cause we support the athletes

because I always “monku” some have a negative opinion, but ask me if I care!

a ‘blindless” blog truly supports the 1st Amendment right to say one’s piece.

    Guud Morning Tsaikos…bootiful day.

3 Prong, from last post, Tsaikos. muster across the street next to the Marina Restaurant, at a cabana. JJ & company usually get the Q going early in the day. Lot of long time Tsaikos there. BigHilo used to be a regular, LizKauai, SteveM, JJ, JaM, JM, Ahouse Ohana etc. and sometimes an appearance of the Meister.

MAHALO TO ALL OUR OHANA this Memorial Weekend.

A-house, this is why me thinks this can work. At this stage, the trade unions don’t have a say. The people are interns. Like you said, there the whole list of people who the university educate from the pencil pushers to fashion designers, food service, trades people school of art, Hawaiian program etc.

’09 – A good year for Oline. I remember Aaron Kia was an art major and one of my favorite players. Glad to see they’re all doing well.

  19. A-House May 25, 2015 7:37 am

    what???

no posts since 5:15 pm yesterday?

or is the blog sooooooo slow!!!!!!!!!!

  20. A-House May 25, 2015 7:46 am

root cause – is this not what we are seeking to help the UHAD sustain their financial stability – one, that is perpetual in nature and not a one time gift of 6 figures?

I still push the concept that the Legislature should allow UH autonomy, but include a line item in the annual budget that will pay for gender equity and travel expenses ( unless one of them can persuade the PC 12 to invite UH into an “all sports” invitation ) – I would like to add COA, but this is a separate issue that the NCAA allowed which only contributes to the Power5 conferences who have boku bucks to spend – heck, even UH would look good if it received $12 – $20 million annually from TV revenue!!!!!
