Mission accomplished

Aaron Zwahlen, Lynn Zwahlen
Aaron Zwahlen, Lynn Zwahlen

After serving a two-year church mission in the Baltimore area, quarterback Aaron Zwahlen is back home in California … for the next two days.

Zwahlen and his father Lynn Zwahlen arrive in Hawaii on Monday. Zwahlen begins UH’s Summer Session I on Tuesday.

Zwahlen, who was listed in ESPN’s top 300 in 2013, said he kept in shape with early-early-morning workouts. He even requested a second football be sent after wearing out the first one.

The Warriors’ offseason conditioning program begins Tuesday.

The pic is from the golf course.
That’s one of the things he didn’t get to do while serving his mission.

Actually, I think Ikaika Woolsey is spending the week in California, too.
For some of the mainland players, like Marcus Kemp and Quinton Pedroza, this was one of the few weeks they get to spend at home. Football’s become a year-’round sport.

A proton walks into a bar and asks for a pitcher of water. The bartender asks, “You sure you don’t want a pitcher of beer?” The proton replies, “I’m positive!”

I try to log into the blog and page flashes before me saying connection problem, page cannot be displayed

2 seconds later, the blog appears

now, there is some crazy on the ground level yelling – just yelling – yes, it must be Friday!!!

sorry I missed the “moo call” – 10 am meeting went overtime; then, I had to run to Longs for cough medicine; then, I rushed eating lunch; then, people calling for all kinds of “rush this now”

fells like I am going on vacation again!!!!!!!!!

  17. A-House May 22, 2015 1:30 pm

    OK, crazy has stopped yelling.

stipend to be paid applies to ALL student athletes { including red shirts } or only to those on scholarship?

will be very difficult to compete with some other mid-majors who much more $$$ to spend – good luck to Matlin in securing the $$$ to cover the estimated $1.3 – 1.5 million each year

  18. A-House May 22, 2015 1:35 pm

continuing my #18 – contrae, is that the mid-major with $$$ may not want to recruit the same player(s)
    \
but, when it comes offer from a Power 5 school – UH don’t stand a chance!! can you see parents who are pulling hairs when son/daughter tells them they want to sign with UH rather than Oregon St or Washington or Arizona and get a much larger stipend – it’s like going to Vegas with $1,000 to spend per day vs $2,000/day – me I take the $2,000!!! – simple economics.

  19. (Jesse)James May 22, 2015 1:59 pm

    Good afternoon gang…

Good time at the moo call. Got to meet a couple of new guys…very cool….missed all those who couldn’t be there. Hopefully, more will make it out next time… 🙂

    Now, back to sleep….errrrr….work…. LOL

#16, I ‘m positive UH football will rise again after Chow leaves.

    Echoing James…

Great seeing erryboddy at the CC.

As DPK says, we didn’t solve all the world’s problems (again) but we did discuss unemployment, housing, transportation, travel, personal finance, urban agriculture, sustainable resources, etc.

  23. Da Punchbowl Kid May 22, 2015 3:47 pm

You forgot to mention make-up tips, Akamai Okole!

    🙂 I’m heart. Hello!

  25. warriorsanddolphins May 22, 2015 3:56 pm

Not pursuing defensive linemen is showing that Norm is already throwing in the towel. Our lack of depth there is going to kill us big time.

  26. Akamai Okole May 22, 2015 5:13 pm

Yes, DPK. As well as Russian defensive strategy!

Sitting/laying on the sidelines during today’s Cattle Call made me reminisce about the first Tsai-ko Cattle Call that was announced on the blog. Camellia Yakiniku Buffet on March 14, 2007. 🙂 Here are some comments from that day…and except for Wreckineyez, everyone is still posting now.

    Comment from: al [Visitor]
oh boy. i can hardly stay awake. my stomach is putting me to sleep. urp.
well today a half a dozen of us tsaikos met at camellia’s. we ate, talked, and ate some more. we
got there at 12:30 the place jamming. fortunately, stevem got there early and saved a long table
for us. by the time we got up to finally leave at 2:00 pm the place was empty except for the
    anguish owner.
i guess i would be too if a half dozen elephants came in to partake of the all you can cook lunch.
especially after we presented her with a 10% discount ad. she said, “i should charge you guys
    extra!!”

    Comment from: WreckinEyez [Visitor]
I must admit that after all the big boys had stopped eating, only one guy was still going.
This one guy was asking the rest of us “what you guys pau already!?!?”
… And this was the guy with the broken ribs.
Good lunch, wish more of you guys could have joined us…
    03/14/07 @ 14:38

    Comment from: al [Visitor]
as the smallest member of today’s contingent representation of tsaiko’s, i felt that it was my duty to try and catch up to my fellow bloggers in girth and weight.
by the way, tom mui came down to say hello. he was just dying to see what we all looked like. after watching us feed on the yakiniku he decided to leave since no one took the time to chat with him during the feeding frenzy.
    03/14/07 @ 14:44

    Comment from: addahknowjoe [Visitor]
Uurrrpp! Mahalo Al! That lunch was ono! Ho, I no can move.
Yeah, I think we had management second guessing their coupon deals.
Hey guys, thanks for more inside info about all kine stuff. You guys good fun crazy!
    03/14/07 @ 14:46

    Comment from: gigi-hawaii [Visitor]
awww, why didn’t you invite Tom Mui to join you guys? That was rude…
    03/14/07 @ 14:51

Comment from: James [Visitor] (Jesse) James
    gigi…
I think at any of our events, everyone is invited…the feeding frenzy was just too much at the moment for anyone to talk…all they could do was come up for air…as Rap once said, “….I could only tink of one ting…air…and den her…”
    03/14/07 @ 14:53

    Comment from: WreckinEyez [Visitor]
We had invited Tom to join us several times but he had said that he had to baby sit.
I was glad that Tom stopped by anyhow.
After he shook everyone’s hand, only Bulla got the comment “you look like a Bulla”
DPK looks nothing like a kid… In fact Bulla said that he looked more like the old timer.
    03/14/07 @ 15:02

    Comment from: gigi-hawaii [Visitor]
First thing I said to Kid when I met him at Murphy’s was, “Oh, you don’t look like a kid.” hahaha
    03/14/07 @ 15:13

    Comment from: prideperiod [Visitor] [kifi]
So if DPK doesn’t look like a kid, does he look more like a piranha?
Or does me look more like a caveman, scaling the slopes of Punchbowl crater.
    03/14/07 @ 15:27

    Comment from: SteveM [Visitor]
The lunch at Camellia was a relatively quiet and dignified affair. It was polite of the crowd to quiet as bulla spoke to us from the other end of the table.
“Peaches” and I have eaten and Camellia before and she knows how to clean the kalbi, kim chee, and pork stains on my shirt front. But she’s going to be curious about how the back and sides of my shirt and pants got spattered.
And anybody see my laptop? Before I fell asleep after fifths, it was being used as a tray….
    – – – – – – – – – –
🙂 Naah, only kidding. When’s the next feeding?
    03/14/07 @ 15:33

    Comment from: al [Visitor]
wow, i did take a nap and i am still full. whew.

well, i keep saying the kid only acts like a kid. he ain’t a small piranha but a big white shark.

while it was thought that i had eaten the most, it was mostly true that i ate the slowest. we all went up to fill our two plates at the same time. i recall only being half way through when bulla went up for his second round. stevem and the kid only nodded their heads and stuffed their faces while others conversed as we ate in between the words.

ajoe and wreck were the methodical eaters. just kept a quick pace and ate the precooked stuff because the bald one kept hawking their stuff.

we decided maybe go have a once a month lunch. since we don’t get bonuses like mr. gigi we cannot afford to go out three times per week. so tomw, its back to the tuna sandwich and bbq potato chips.

okay, off to a meeting now. check back with you kids tonight. um, one thing guys, you gotta force yourself to eat some dinner tonight otherwise you will be forced to reveal your luncheon whereabouts to the boss.

    urp. oops. sorry.
    nuff said.

Q: Why did the elephant cross the road?
    A: Chicken’s day off.

PRESS RELEASE: Mattel recently announced the release of Limited-Edition
Barbie dolls for the Hawaii market:

KAMEHAMEHA BARBIE by Lehua: This Barbie has dark skin, long bushy hair
with a yellow plumeria in her ear, and 5 Hawaiian bracelets on her left hand. Her right hand is automatically in the shaka position. She comes with a lauhala bag, Roxy slippers and board shorts and an opu-showing tank top. Available with a pareo, hula pa’u skirt, and
    various Song Contest song sheets.

IOLANI BARBIE: This princess Barbie is only sold at Iolani. She comes with an assortment of Kate Spade handbags, a Lexus SUV, a longhaired foreign dog named Honey, and a cookie-cutter house. Available with or without tummy tuck and facelift. Note: Studious Ken
sold only in conjunction with “augmented” version.

HAWAII KAI BARBIE: This modern-day homemaker Barbie is available with Ford Windstar minivan and matching velour gym outfit. She gets lost easily and has no full time occupation or secondary education. Traffic-jamming cell phone sold separately.

MAYOR WRIGHT HOUSING BARBIE: This recently paroled Barbie comes with a 9 mm handgun, a Chevy with dark tinted windows, and a meth lab kit. This model is only available after dark and can only be paid for in cash, preferably small, untraceable bills, unless you are a cop, then we don’t know what the hell you’re talking about.

PUNAHOU BARBIE: This yuppie Barbie comes with your choice of BMW convertible or Hummer H2. Included is her own Starbucks cup, credit card, and Oahu Country Club membership. Also available for this set are Shallow Ken and Private School Skipper. You won’t be able to afford any of them.

UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII BARBIE: Short, highly tanned and ready to land a husband-we mean, get an education. Comes with standard issue shorts with “Go Bows” printed largely on the butt. Also comes wearing latest “themed” sorority party T-shirt, hair in pony tail and a gaggle of similar looking friends, each carrying the latest in knock-off Kate Spade bags
and with Honda Civic. Undecided major and drunken, backward-hat Frat Boy Ken sold separately.

UP COUNTRY BARBIE: This pale model comes dressed in her own Wrangler jeans two sizes too small, a NASCAR shirt, and Tweety Bird tattoo on her shoulder. She has a six-pack of Bud Light and a Greatest Hawaiian Country Hits CD set. She can spit over 5 feet and kick Mullet-Haired Ken’s butt when she is drunk. Purchase her pickup truck separately and get a
Maui No Ka Oi bumper sticker absolutely free.

KAHALA BARBIE: This collagen injected, rhino-plastic Barbie wears a leopard print spandex outfit and drinks cosmopolitans while entertaining friends at Waialae Country Club. Percocet prescription available.

WAIANAE BARBIE: This tobacco chewing, brassy-haired Barbie has a pair of her own high-heeled sandals with one broken heel from the time she chased Beer-Gut Ken out of Waipahu Barbie’s repossessed house. Her ensemble includes low-rise acid-washed jeans, fake
    fingernails, and a see-through halter-top.

HOTEL STREET BARBIE: This slacker Barbie looks an awful lot like Waianae Barbie without a shower. Comes with a pack of clove cigarettes and a sixer of PBR. There are accessory packages with various assortments of body piercings and tattoos available, but they must be
purchased separately because, like, she doesn’t have a job.

DOWN-TO-EARTH BARBIE: This doll is made of actual tofu. She has long straight faded blue hair, archless feet, hairy armpits, no makeup, and Birkenstocks with white socks. She prefers that you call her “Willow.” She does not want or need a Ken doll, but if you purchase two
Down-to-Earth Barbies and the optional Subaru wagon, you get a rainbow sticker for free.

FARRINGTON BARBIE: This Barbie now comes with a stroller and infant doll. Optional accessories include a GED and bus pass. Gangsta Ken and his ’79 Caddy were available, but are now very difficult to find since the addition of the infant.

WAIPAHU BARBIE: This Filipino-speaking Barbie comes with a 1984 Toyota with expired temporary plates and three babies in the back seat, but no car seats. The optional Pinoy Ken doll comes with a machete and work gloves. Ken comes with his own 1979 Ford pickup with a
Mufi bumper sticker, tinted windows, and Our Lady of Manila rear window stickers. Truck is painted primer gray, but wheels and rims are not available. Comes with cement blocks. Green cards are not available for Waipahu Barbie or Ken.

RIVER STREET BARBIE/KEN: This versatile doll can be easily converted from Barbie to Ken by simply adding or subtracting the multiple “snap-on” parts.
