Colt?!?
Colt’s dad says this story is not true:

At first glance, it appears UH has little to gain from moving the starting times up an hour for WAC home games (which will allow visiting teams to catch the redeye flight that night and save the cost of an extra night’s stay).
Better for the kids? It’s a Saturday night. Kids stay up late on weekends.
More exposure on the West Coast? It’s a Saturday night. Newspapers go to press earlier that night. Nobody is going to be waiting around for the UH-Utah State score.
And schools certainly won’t be moving their home games to 11 a.m. to enable UH to make the last flight from San Franciso to Honolulu.
But as we’ve learned through the years, the best deals AD Jim Donovan makes usually have time-delayed payoffs.
When he was an associate AD, Donovan helped start a golf tournament in Southern California that spurred the growth of the football program’s alumni booster group in that area.
He invited several ADs to a UH-sponsored golf tournament in Hawai‘i, which led to the football series between UH and USC.
And, of course, the establishment of the Letterwinners Club helped establish networking between student-athlete alumni and the athletic department.
The change in kickoff time will eventually help UH. Athletic departments, especially the financailly troubled California state schools, will be looking for cost-cutting measures. This should stave off thoughts of asking for travel subsidies from UH, which would impact the entire athletic department.
Besides, in a karma-driven world, it’s always good to do the right thing.

UH has two types of nickel defenses. That’s also why it has two types of nickelbacks — Richard Torres and Spencer Smith.
* * * * *
Alema Tachibana, who was added to the training camp roster yesterday, now weighs 215 — 15 pounds more than his weight in spring training. Tachibana, who is 6 feet 2, is on a sensible weight-gaining program that should help him mature into an effective defensive end. It should be interesting to see how much Tachibana, Earvin Sione and Paipai Falemal have improved at this time next year.

Happy belated birthday to Erika Buder-Nakasone. Back in the day, she kicked arse in the cheerleaders’ “Happy And You Know It” dance. I wonder if it’s on Youtube.

And happy belated birthday to Kelli Miura.
Ekahi!

From the Fresno website:
“We are grateful to Jim Donavan and Coach McMackin for working with us,” said head coach Pat Hill. “As everyone knows, the Hawaii trip is always tough and when we have to stay overnight after the game, it not only costs more but it make for a long travel day on Sunday and we don’t get back to Fresno until Sunday night. All in all, this is a great situation for us not only from a budget standpoint but also to help the guys get some rest on Sunday and be fresh and ready for classes on Monday morning.”
The team will be departing on two different flights between 10:30-11 p.m., which brings them home Sunday at around noon.
And I read the post first… 😉
Nothing like a nice clean win. I think I pulled a muscle rushing to post.
Aloha Kakahiaka!!!
happy Aloha Friday all
I read the post first, too.
Does UH still pay travel subsidies to visiting teams? I agree that if teams reduce their stay here by leaving right after a game, UH should not be subsidizing the visitors travel.
It appears the decision was made by consensus, and that’s a good thing.
Besides, if we can put the visitors on the sideline with the afternoon sun in their eyes, all the better. We can help them with “red eye” part.
Yes, it’s Aloha Friday, which means in Dallas, June Jones is wearing an aloha shirt at practice.
Hey Slugger, Dave and royal!
UH stopped paying travel subsidies in 1998, I believe, the year before the eight schools seceded from the WAC.
But those discussions always come up.
UH is actually the senior member of the WAC. It shouldn’t be required to subsidize other teams.
Good Morning Tsaikos!!
It was a little dissappointing yesterday. I was watching practice and the only thing I saw were guys in green, white and orange jerseys running around. I have no clue what they were doing. I hope to learn what I should be looking at one of these days before the season starts.
So Stephen, want to give us the one juiciest insider tidbit from practice which we readers might want to know?
No tree jokes either.
There’s a rule at UH. If the instructor doesn’t show after 15 minutes, the class gets to leave.
Stretch
Ur killing me dude, jus killing me. 😆
DPK:
Things I’ve learned:
• The majority of the current flu cases are swine flu, so most don’t even bother trying to identify it anymore.
• UH-Manoa’s health center had 25,000 patients the past academic year.
• UnderArmour has a shoe specialist who can accommodate players with luau feet.
And in the really big news … Fetaiagogo Fonoti’s first name translates to Fast Bird.
…oh, and today is the first day of full pads.
And in my case, “I know nothing”…which is true. Good exercise walking to practice, though.
See ya there!
trade? we didn’t get anything back in the trade. how is it fair? i wish i could get something for nothing. i still say we should get half of whatever each team saves by flying home early. i still can’t see how it would be beneficial to say la tech or nevada to do a red-eye out of here. they’d be all beat up and tired from a full game day, then to rush off and sit on a plane 10+ hours so they can get home on sunday? i dunno. maybe its just me.
is there a term that’s opposite of bachi? for good karma?
if so, i really hope we get that.
How does Hogan Rosehill look?
I want to get over there to watch, but have been working a split shift…
so youre sayin the paipai move to DE is permanent?
congrats to Alema for making the roster!
Thanks for the updates, kind of.
Slugger:
I don’t know anything, either. But I’ve learned that if I scrunch my brow, as I’m trying to alphabetize my meds in my head, people assume I’m deeply analyzing situations.
Then again, my elementary school teachers used to always write on my report card: “Stephen daydreams all of the time.”
My mom used to scold me about that and … uh, what was I talking about again?
let’sgowarriors:
If I were to make a prediction, Paipai’s move is permanent.
And, a year from now, don’t be surprised if the 5 o’clock kickoff is permanent.
DPK:
Rosehill looks OK, but it’s hard to tell since Leon Wright-Jackson, Alex Green and Chizzy Dimude get most of the work in team drills. Inoke Funaki is still nursing that sore shoulder, but it won’t be a problem, and he’ll be back at it soon.
The move to 5 was the right thing to do, but I’m not sure if Boise St., and their “anything for an advantage, including blue turf” mentality, would have done the same.
Early starts and earlier finishes makes sense. Now they have to figure out how to better deal other issues — alcohol, kids and bathrooms.
Anyone else catch Sports Animals yesterday with Redskins play by play guy Halloran (sp?)? He said that Colt has NO chance at all to be the backup QB and in a fight with Daniels for the 3rd spot. Don’t understand this, how can Colt not be even given a chance to compete? Said that Zorn really likes Daniels.
In Colts defense Halloran mentioned that Colt playing behind 3rd team OL of which none will make the roster & with 3rd team receivers of which none will make the roster. Made mention of speaking with Colt after the game and Colt said that as the 3rd team QB that’s how it is for him to play with the 3rd team unit. Halloran is hopeful that Colt will be able to play in the remaining preseason games with either the 2nd or 1st unit to show what he can do.
i asked this a few days ago, not sure if u have the answer, does earvin sione have a redshirt year avail?
Couple of things I’ve noticed about the backs:
• Dimude breaks off the longest runs.
• Every time you see a pile of bodies moving, Jayson Rego is carrying the ball.
Earvin is in that really gray area that we still can’t figure out.
He attended a non-football-playing college for a year. That used to be a loophole. But now some feel that because he was required to go there, it should count as a year (basically a redshirt year).
It should be interesting to see how it all plays out because this will affect Blaze Soares and Mana Lolotai.

from what i remember, it has to do with making progress on your degree. i think guys like kalilimoku and keomaka did similar to blaze with the HPU. similar to partial qualifiers pisa and mel purcell?
blaze is graduating this year right, so he probably made enough progress which is why he got his “5th” year back this year. why dont you put tuioti’s knowledge to the test and go seek answers from him. stimulate his brain a bit.
ST,
Rumor has Jessica Simpson flirting with Colt Brennan. True?
Awesome article on Coach Shaw, Stephen. I like everything I’m reading about the guy. I wonder why we never used that platform rig to help teach run blocking before?
Good info. in the rest of the article.
Hey diesel! Long time no see. How are you?

I think hibachi is a good opposite word… but that’s just me…

COLT WATCHES:
here we go:
http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/sports/blogs/redskins-confidential/Redskins-postgame-53191372.html
3. Colt Brennan looked, uh, not like the summer of ’08. Brennan had it tough; even one staffer told him as he was in the locker room that no one could have succeeded behind that line. He admitted that the interception prevented im from taking chances later in the game. Brennan was off; he’d throw to his right only to discover that someone on the other side was open. And on the pick, he actually made the right read and throw. The problem was that the receiver, Marques Hagans, slipped. Also, he’s small so the defensive back ripped through him for the pick. Perhaps a bigger guy would have been physical enough to either make the catch or break up a pick.
http://blog.redskins.com/2009/08/14/friday-august-14-after-an-evenings-reflection/
“And the one that’s labeled “most important” right there is the one that I forgot most: no one got seriously hurt. There were some strains and the occasional eye poke, but for the most part the same group of guys that need to get reps together will be back out on the field facing the Steelers a week from tomorrow. And that’s what really matters.
Not the scoreboard — Osaka taught us that. Not how Colt Brennan looked — which didn’t matter last year, when he looked good, and didn’t matter last night when he didn’t. All that matters in the end is that no one got hurt.
They get the chance to do better next Saturday; I’ll try to do better myself, at remembering how to react to preseason.”
Somehow, as much as I’d like to see Colt have a “real shot” in DC, I cannot think it would hurt him if he was let go. I have to believe that there is a team out there that needs a very good #3 or a possible #2 and can see that in Colt. If Zorn is jerking his chain, it would be best to not be in such a situation.
http://www.redskins.com/gen/games/gameday.jsp
“Colt Brennan played the entire second half at quarterback and he struggled mightily. He completed just 4-of-12 passes for 43 yards and threw a costly interception after he had navigated the offense into Baltimore territory.
Brennan was sacked three times, and found himself scrambling three other times. The Redskins’ second- and third-string offensive line had breakdowns on several pass plays.”
http://www.washingtontimes.com/weblogs/redskins/2009/aug/14/reviewing-5-things/
“In Thursday’s papers, I gave everybody five things to watch. Here’s a review of how they fared:
1. Colt Brennan
The third-string quarterback played the entire second half and was 4 of 12 for 43 yards, was intercepted once and sacked three times. Brennan really didn’t have a chance to shine since the Redskins were down by at least 13 points the entire half and the Ravens knew the Redskins had to throw. Plus, he was playing behind a third-unit offensive line — not exactly the ideal way to catch Todd Collins for the No. 2 job.”
http://tinyurl.com/myatne
“If you were looking for the young backups to create a spark you were disappointed. Colt Brennan could not move the offense, and the defense couldn’t stop the Ravens. Brennan did not look like the gun slinger from last preseason. Instead he looked tentative, focusing too much on his footwork.”
Just Wondering Department:
Since Colt was getting beaten and battered in his own backfield, does it make sense for him to continue playing for the ‘Skins? I mean, who cares if you become a 2nd or 3rd unit QB if you are D-line Pogey bait?
How does one get out of a chickensh$$ outfit?

Doc Walker just had some very interesting insights on the QB situation.
Doc thinks that JC and Collins are too concerned with trying to please Zorn and not just playing.
He thinks that Jason is just too robotic and he’s more focused on going through his progressions than making a play.
Doc talked about how there are people open downfield but Jason (who had time last night) is too quick to checkdown.
Otoh, Doc feels that Brennan was under real pressure but was still trying to make a play.
I’m paraphrasing here, but Doc thinks that Brennan has a “I don’t give a ****” mentality to his game.
He (Doc) said that Colt was the only one who consistently looked downfield in spite of the pressure he was under.
Bottomline: Doc feels that JC needs to just say “**** it”, and let her rip.
And if he throws some ints and Zorn gets mad, then he just gets mad. “
ST,
So what happens when ESPN wants to move the game to Thursday or Friday? Is that game going to be at 5pm?
Should have added Coach Z to #44 Liz. Wonder what his numbers would be.

“Fresh off her recent break-up with Tony Romo, unlucky in everything Jessica Simpson has found romance yet again! The singer/actress has reportedly hooked up with yet another football star — this time Washington Redskins quarterback Colt Brennan.”
Happy belated birthday Kelli…Didn’t she just have a birthday last year???
Good Morning all!
Rainbowtique?
Where’s the south swell surf?
Is chawan on a diet too? I notice a mean streak in him lately…martial arts, beating up thugs at Ala Moana park…
Good morning Tsaikos….hope everyone has a great Aloha Friday…
Interesting that the games will be moved to 5:00….I guess the three amigos will now need to get to the Cabanas an hour earlier….MWAHAHAHAHA

Happy Birthday to Erika Buder-Nakasone & Kelli Miura!!
Changing the game time will be great for fans from the outer island. They will be able to come in for the tailgate, then catch a flight home after the game. No need to pay extra hotel, taxi, car rental, etc. Thank you JD.
Forgot, good morning Tsaikos.
Happy Birthday Kelii and Erika!!!!!
Re: Game Time Changes
I would assume all the teams already have their airfare and hotels set up. They are going to have to pay penalties to change the flights. They probably have contracts with the hotels and would have to pay penalties to cut back one night. Are they really going to save money THIS season?? I would think it would make more sense to have it in place next season where teams can plan accordingly.
whitey – it only saves money for the outerisland fans who COME TO THE GAME at Aloha Stadium. Watching games at the darkside on Maui does not count.
2 hours, 5 minutes, 1 minute…just give me the time!
So now we gotta start t-gating at 9:00 a.m. No problem.
I got to commend the stadium people as looking at ways in making it more accommodating for the fans and the UH.
Displacing stupidity with smartness, like how they finally rid the swap meet on game days was a great move. And adds to the atmosphere of a real football game day where fans coming to the stadium don’t have to be dodging the swap meet people. For the fans, I think, having less to contend with (like the swap meet) gives game day a better feeling of experiencing the electricity in the air, especially since now they’ll be able to tail gate and party earlier on game days.
Also enhancing the spectator’s game experience by opening the parking lots earlier, having 90 flat screen televisions set up around the stadium (near concession stands) will be added this year, having 16 additional security cameras set up, starting an entertainment area for families and children, coordinating with the local radio station with traffic advisories, adding a better selection of food choices at the concession stands, and working with the public on ways in getting better are favorable impressions the stadium people are gradually leaving on the spectators.
And I think with the stadium experience for the spectator being better it’s going to be alluring, and it’ll beckon spectators in coming back to the stadium.
Also in the future there’s talk of replacing the six year old turf on the field and the scoreboard, changes coming as soon as next year.
But the thing that impresses me about the stadium people, especially when I hear radio interviews with Bobby C (of 1420) and Scot Chan, Aloha Stadium manager, is that Chan fields the complaints with noted sincerity in his voice. When you’re hearing him respond to a question, say for example, of trouble making fans in a certain section you get the feeling as a listener that he’ll be fast tracking the complaint.
Lastly, having the venue being an uplifting experience, especially more so now that with the swap meet’s departure, I think will create more of a spirited atmosphere, aka electricity in the air, that will carry over into the stands thus benefiting the Warriors on the field.
royal crown – So does that mean you will be joining us at the t-gates?
Auwrite gang! Happys all around!
Saw Mr. C in action this morning and I can verify- that braddah working hard!
A-Joe – What was he doing? Dragging Big C by the hair?
Belated Birthday wishes to Kelli!
Timely wishes to Erika!
re: Smith and Torres
Wouldn’t that tip the offense?
😳
Make that belated Birthday wishes to Erika as well.
It’s somebody’s birthday today! Happy D4mn Birthday then! 😆
Good morning Tsai-kos! Happy Friday.
Happy birthdays to Erika and Kelli.
So, what happens if the game goes long – do the teams end up sleeping in the airport cuz they don’t have a hotel? Do we care? NOT!
Why so long?
jmxxxx,
Mad dash to the plane; plenny Febreze 🙄
Pride.,
Cuz one time no ’nuff!
Ai-Yah: I just did! 😆
Hauoli Lahanau, Erika!
So is anyone at practice who can “feed” us a “no-rice, hold da gravy” analysis?
stretch, us “retarded” guys no more working income, so we depend on “welfare” checks. hahahahaaaaaa
royal crown, thanks for your observations. Looking forward to roasting in blue…
Monku, monku, monku.
ST:
While I would like to share your optimisim in your opening statement, I find it hard to believe that the La Tech and Boise St coaches will ever receiprocate UH kindness. La Tach coach already showed his colors when he was willing to share Uh tendencies with the Georgia coach prior to the Sugar Bowl and his dispariging remarks to Davone Bess. Boise is only for Boise. Only one that would return in kind is Pat Hill because he is that type of guy. Other coach is new.
In the long run, this time movement may be very beneficial to UH and this is a good thing. Until that happens, many fans will suck wind!!!
DPK,
doing fine. how’s you?
—–
LizKauai,
thanks for the awesome CB updates. Doc has some good points about CB being pressured all night yet he still looks down field to make a play. He has the olos that Campbell lacks.
—–
ST,
still no confirmation on Simpson-gate?
If, as Royal Crown suggests, the turf will be replaced next year the visitor side should be black and the Warrior side should be a color matched exactly to the home jersey color.
Impressive.
Enzyte.
homey #87:
What? You’re taking that stuff? Just a little bit TMI, if you get my drift.

Oregon chose to play Nevada instead of BSU in 2011.
Go Colt …
Ω
Coaches at SDSU, Fresno State, SJSU, etc., are supposed to take 2 unpaid furlough days off each month.
Hopefully none of the Warriors will catch the swine flu–it can spread so quickly when people are close together such as in a locker room. About half of Duke’s football team has the swine flu now. With the flu season coinciding with the football season, I’m guessing that the swine flu will have a major impact on some games this year.
Aloha Stadium / UH should look into selling parts of the field turf next time it’s replaced. Lots of great memories and games played on it in it’s short lifetime.
Question: what is the warranty on that field turf? why does it need to be replaced so soon?
I was down on the field about 4 times in the past year, and yeah, it’s not as “grassy” as before.
J-Dog,
I agree that selling parts of the turf would be a good way to raise money…but the turf belongs to the Stadium Authority instead of UH, so will they get to keep the money?
It is possible that turf doesn’t last as long as long as it should. Here is a report about how UTEP has to quickly replace its turf right before the season begins.
Happy birthday, Erika Buder-Nakasone!
Went to practice; so much cooler in the morning.
LizK, Jett made a great catch during the one-on-ones.
Earvin Sione’s ‘ohana were there to watch him.
Coach Tormey’s likening the D-line players to cattle sitting in the shade when they can is true. #7 needs to get used to being out in the sun. 🙂
Just got the registration form for the Wahine football clinic. Tsaikettes, do you want me to forward it to you?
Happy Aloha Friday, Tsaikos. Hhhm, any guess which hotel FSU is trying to bag out of early? I wonder. It’s okay…karma is very real.
Slugger, you’re welcome. I wish I knew earlier that sjmacro and myki bought theirs too.
Have an awesome RFL, Pride. Bolohead or not, we’re there to support you and the cause.
I heard about that. I left a message with our man.
Congrats to AC Anthony Carter (HA 11:23 a. m.)
NBA: Nuggets re-sign ex-UH point guard Anthony Carter
DENVER — The Denver Nuggets, have fulfilled one of coach George Karl’s offseason wishes with the re-signing of backup point guard Anthony Carter.
Nuggets executive Mark Warkentien said: “AC’s loyalty to (owner) Stan Kroenke, George Karl and Denver is exemplary; rarely seen in professional athletics today.”
Ok…bad news time…I’m not gonna be able to attend the UNLV as I planned. Still gonna be at the WSU game though. Good news….my ticket in the Super Tsaiko section is available if anyone would like to lay claim to it.
Thanks for the report, Slugger.
YEA Jett!
Yes please send the registration for Wahine clinic.
djmitcho- 🙁
Fresno State’s PR people are pretty good.
Here, not only do they show some sort of sportsmanship to UH, BUT they are also covering their collective a**es for the loss they will earn this season by citing the usual travel issues and yadda yadda yadda…
djmitcho,
bummer
Report from Miami’s morning practice today.
J-Dog,
I think the warranty on the field turf at Aloha Stadium was for like 5 years. It was installed around 2002 or 2003 I think?
Mana #43 Silva’s Dad (I’m assuming) was sitting in front of me with his custom hat. Nice! “Mana 43 Silva” embroidered on the back straddling the strap.
LizK,
Sending form your way! (Have to get nail polish in mail to you.)
Say it ain’t so! Noooo, Colt, stay away from Jessica!
djmitcho ~ Say it ain’t so…
Rainbotique update special:
Saw/met High Flyer and Homey inside the store.
Met/tlaked to Jim D and Coach Mack who had to leave ASAP to return to campus for meetings. Jim D was kind enough to share additional insight into his “move up start time earlier” which pleased me much. We also have a plate lunch bet for one-year-from-now which I am most happy to pay if I lose. Reminder: put note in your suspense file to call him!
A-House to self – done!!!
Colt’s dad said: No.
Was it “No.”
Or, “NO!”
Or, “Oh nooooooooooooooooooooo . . .”
re #105,
Yeah Kazz, I believe the 2003 season was the first season with the field turf. If I remember correctly, Ross Dickerson as a redshirt frosh blessed the new turf with a kickoff return for a TD against Appalachian State.
Colt Brennan and Jessica Simpson….sweet. Hey we know she is a front runner so that can only mean good things for Colt. Just no feed her any plate lunches down here Colt….you know what going happen when she eat 2 scoops rice, mac salad, and gravy all over. Sweet Momona!!!!!
Um Jessica Simpson was ok in the movie “Employee of the Month”… hehehehehehe…
Come on. You all really falling for this ” Love American Style” myth?
btw, I really enjoyed that show growing, helping fuel the hormones.
Colt is one Akamai guy. No need that mess.
JK I like your overall synopsis with the long run results, sweet monoma>>>> haha.
ST,
Is tomorrow’s practice going to be at the grass fields or Ching Field?
I’m not sure about tomorrow’s location.
The scrimmage should start about 10 a.m.
C’mon…what would you tell your dad?
Re Colt and JS… sounds like a Cooley prank to me… just sayin…
ST,
No prob… I’ll be lurking around at UH as early as 7 anyway… hehhehehehe
How was this morning’s practice?
Colt’s got more sense than that.
Howzit, gang!
Hey Big C!
Thank you Powder Puff. Thanks also to all of the Tsai-kos for their generous support. I am glad to be part of this extended family.
Missed a lot lately….
Happy birthday to everyone I’ve missed!
A-joe: Working hard? You shua? Last phone call I got from him, he said he found one tree fo’ hide unda’! AND one of da’ neighbors was sharing some smoked marlin….. hahahaha….
dj…dang, that’s too bad….
Happy B-day to Erika…and Kelli….
homey, d1, Stretch, Pride….what you guys talking about with this one time not enough, take 5 minutes, 5 hours….????
homey…yep, guess we gotta start t-gating at 8:30….
Hey, where is KK??? I know he is back from BI already….
So, anything happen at practice today???
Oh Schnap….mama in da house….LMAO
What up, JJ!!! Ha’ come you neva visit da pink side today?
ummm…Mrs. C…kinda busy….LOL
Yeah, right….. 😉
Colt and Jessica?
Definately somebodies prank. Colt doesn’t have enough status for her yet, even so, her hormon storage facilities could be pretty good for some young football player.
I’m not to upset about Colt’s playing yet. Even their first string O-Line is quite lousy, by the time you get to third string, it’s really good night. None of the QB’s looked any good, even their vaunted defense was pretty disappointing. It looks like another bad year for the Redskins. I don’t think they will give Colt the chance he deserves.
They need to make some serious adjustments. One good move would be to fire their Owner and the front office, lol.
Thanks, DPK,
Got my Warrior Jack today. Mahalo Nui Loa, I’ll e-mail you tomorrow.
“Any offensive lineman loves to run-block,” Shaw said. “The truth be known, they’d rather run-block because it’s an attack rather than a retreat setup.”
The above quote is taken from an article written today by ST on UH O-Line Coach Shaw.
In adding my opinion, I also think that the O-Linemen need to establish the line of scrimmage and pushing the D-Line back– and running plays allow them to do this. Sometimes the net yardage from a running play is not as important than how it opens up the O-Linemens aggressions in how they are blocking and punishing the defender in front of them.Effective running plays doesn’t allow for effective
wow wasn’t even finished and it submitted. nm.
Nalani,
Saw Kaha’i after morning practice today. He’s just being patient as a newbie.
South campus cleanup, Manoa Makeover, tomorrow morning till noon. So, no practice for me. See ya there, A-House & W-Doc.
too funny this one….

Forgot, good morning Tsaikos.
oh mayor of maui…you forgot that faa regulations prohibit an inebriated person from flying on an aircraft.
the last time the stadium replaced the carpet, the astro turf was offered to every public school in the state at various sizes and even cut and delivered them.
those schools with foresight did take advantage of this and had lengths cut for their batting cages and general all purpose workout stations for the team and individual sports.
i tried to delclare my back yard as a semi public facility since i had a cage in back and many public schoolers would come over to hone their skill. they never did reply though.
Will Aaron Brown be playing nickleback as well? I thought i heard Mack mention that on the warrior beat show.
well you never know when you will run into a fellow tsaiko during lunch. was having lunch with all the kids and boss when i noticed the korean man’s jaws drop as in walked two large men.
of course, one was none other than the balded bulla. the korean man did offer a sigh of relief as he noticed that the beast was not with him.
and just so you know, the quality is being maintained at camellia’s.
can’t wait to see this team in action.
btw, my last thought on the five oclock start. so four home games will be starting earlier by a total of 60 minutes.
those who are complaining,
what do you do on the road games that you are not attending?
do you tape those games because it is too early in the day?
it is what it is. these days we need to be flexible.
we’ll still be rooting for the home team no matter what time they play.
never fear change, instead challenge yourself to effect change that will improve the status quo.

Aaron Brown has been battling some hamstring problem and hasn’t practiced much this week. Kenny Estes and Mana Silva have been the No. 1 safeties, and Richard Torres and Spencer Smith have been the nickelbacks.

Both long snappers know that only one of them can make the team.

Jake talked about Luke being the long-snapper for UH.
This newspaper thinks that Jake needs a haircut.

Interesting tidbit on how Navy P-3 planes were used by US Geological Survey geologists to study mineral deposits in Afghanistan to look for undiscovered valuable mineral deposits. The US government paid for all of this survey work and discovered iron, copper and gemstones (emeralds, rubies and sapphires)…and even though the US did all the work to discover the minerals and the US paid for everything needed for the discover, the government of Afghanistan gave the exploration rights for copper mines to a Chinese company. We’ve spent how much money in Afghanistan and they are giving the mineral rights to China?
The Justice Department is suing a bulletproof vest maker for *knowingly* using faulty material in the bulletproof vests they sold for use by US troops and police officers. The US government also alleges that after the founders found out about the lawsuit they took $5 million from their company and purchased things like a Ferrari, a Maserati and a private jet.
The Global Entry program is being expanded to 13 additional airports (including Honolulu, San Francisco and Vegas). This program allows trusted air travelers to skip the passport processing lines and instead use a touchscreen system that includes a fingerprint scan. This allows most people to get through the line in less than 5 minutes, far faster than the passport processing normally takes!

Man gave his name and account number and showed his ID to a bank teller right before robbing a bank in Alaska…police caught up with him quickly. Garret:
I really do not understand why they would take Ingram in the 6th if they did not want or need him…?????
UH’s feature on the OL includes Ginlack…but I thought he was sitting out this season?
curveball,
New England knows how important the long-snapper position is, and they lost their long-time starter to free agency. By signing the best free agent available (who was perfect for 6 entire NFL seasons and just started in the Super Bowl) and drafting the best rookie, they can be confident that they will get the guy they want.
One thing that the people drafting for New England might not have taken into account is that they have a new special teams coach this season, one that the draft people probably do not know that well. And their new special teams coach used to coach Hodel, and Hodel said that he specifically chose New England because of their new special teams coach.
If Hodel wins the job, New England might try to put him on their practice squad. However, to do that then any NFL team can grab Ingram as long as they keep him on their active roster. That means that if Ingram does well this preseason then he will be starting for some NFL team this year.

Thanks,that helps
Well, I’m back from work and the Mililani-Moanalua game. A bunch of my students were excited that I was going to go and watch them play. Sadly, the Trojans prevailed over Nā Menehune in both games. A few thoughts:
1. Both JV teams have some solid skill players that could (or should) be promoted. Mililani’s future looks bright all-around; Moanalua looks to have a couple players to excite on offense.
2. UH recruits Frank Loyd and Ipulasi Eselu of Moanalua are solid football players. I spent a good amount of time watching them, and while they aren’t five-star studs, I think they are good prospects.
3. Taz Stevenson didn’t look his best tonight. But even then, a decent Taz Stevenson is a good player. Just wondering if he’s spread too thin in his responsibilities, as he is also on defense now.
4. Mililani is a VERY well-coached team. In particular, I loved their offensive line play, and they have a solid running game. Give plenty credit to Darnell Arceneaux and his staff. I’m not sure if we can consider them title contenders yet, though. I know it’s still preseason, but the less-experienced skill players don’t seem to be up to full-speed. I got the impression that this could be a Mililani team that flies around the ball in all aspects, but they aren’t there yet.
5. I’m not trying to be partial, but Moanalua looked to be the little team that could. Mililani had better athletes, but Moanalua kept it competitive. There aren’t many superstars on this squad, but they do work well as a team. I think Arnold Martinez does a good job of managing and drawing out the most out of his players. Never been a fan of his offense, but I do like the way he has developed the program in the past few years.
6. Had a few players from both sides cramp up during the game. Hope budget cuts don’t hamper proper hydration. But it looked like there were sports drinks and water available.
you didn’t watch the forty niners play on the tele…
Welcome back, Jason. Howzit feel to be a member of The Working Class?
Just think – less than 48 years from now, you can retire and spend all your free time doing whatever it is that folks will be doing fo’fun in 2057. since by then you’ll have to work to age 70 to get your Social Security bennies..
Wonder how much different football will be by then. Looking backwards, 48 years was 1961 – how much has the game changed since then. Could an NFL player from back then survive playing today’s football?
Hiya!
Great news about Jake Ingram. Hope he ends up with a team that will give him a good deal!
Ok. Time for night night.
Sweet WARRIOR DREAMS!
Good Morning All! Hope everyone has a good Saturday.
Good morning Tsaikos.
Best wishes to Corey Nielsen…the news from ST’s article today shouldn’t mean he has to stop playing, but it is good they caught it and will monitor it.
morning garret. you no sleep????
Anybody know what time practice starts today??
Aloha Kakhiaka!

First he captured the fans in Hawaii and then extended his reach to those of the Redskins.
And now Jessica Simpson?
Apparently the answer is: no.
Because we’re now apparently gossip writers, we can report that Brennan denies any budding romance with the pop singer and ex-Tony Romo girlfriend. Star magazine reported that Brennan and Simpson might be an item.
”Chris Cooley told me to neither deny or confirm the story,” Brennan said. ”I don’t know where it came from. I don’t know anything about it.”
He said he didn’t even know Simpson.
”It would be hilarious if Tony Romo did this,” Brennan said. ”I would think he’d have a great sense of humor if he did this.”
Then he had a request for Star.
”Maybe next week ask Star if they can hook me up with somebody else,” he said, ”like Keira Knightley or Megan Fox, something like that.”
Good mornin whitey and LizK
Howdy, Pomai!
Looks like it will be a beautiful day for practice
whitey,
Good morning. I don’t sleep much–I was actually awake for a couple of hours after my last post last night and woke up to read with my younger daughter for an hour or so before my first post this morning.
practice should be good today, nice weather for football…..
Article in the Deseret news about the Hawaii players on Weber State’s roster.
Aloha Kakahiaka!!!
Hope Corey’s medical condition is not serious.
Pomai,
Practice starts at 8:30. Wonder if I could be assigned to pick up trash around the practice field so I can get some peeks? Forgot to tell the guy who left his McCoffee cup under the tree to pick it up yesterday when he came back to get his backpack.
Garret,
Cool to see the Hawaii players are getting some love in Utah. Go Beast!
Morning y’all! I’m sure the A-House ‘ohana is driving over to UH by now. Manoa Makeover cleanup. See ya there!
Esme & out for now….
Great Morning All!
I love the smell of football in the air! 🙂
