Torres, Paredes earn scholarships; Taylor transfers
UH head coach Greg McMackin today awarded football scholarships to safety/nickelback Richard Torres and linebacker Corey Paredes.
* * * *
Rick Taylor has transferred to South Alabama, a Division I-AA school.
Because Taylor left UH in good academic standing, the Warriors will not be deducted any APR points.
All of Taylor’s UH credits transferred. He needs seven classes to earn a bachelor’s degree. After that, he will start work toward a master’s degree.
Taylor has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Rawlins-Crivello, a 2006 Kamehameha Schools graduate, attended Boise State for two years. He moved back to Hawai‘i last year.
The WAC requires a player to sit out two seasons if he transfers between member schools. But Rawlins-Crivello is seeking an exemption because he returned to Hawai‘i to take care of his mother, who is a cancer survivor.
If the exemption is aproved, Rawlins-Crivello, who did not play football last year, would be eligible to play for the Warriors this year.
Rawlins-Crivello is 6 feet 1 and 240 pounds.
His cousin is UH linebacker Mana Lolotai.

Kicker Kevin Bell returned to the Mainland because of an illness in his family. UH does not expect him to return this year.

No rest for the injured. The ailing players were required to carry 40-pound sand bags over their head while walking 220-yard laps. Here’s safety Aaron Brown:

Radio daze:
Howzit Ai?…good morning St!
dang, so whos left in the kicking dept?
Sorry, should be AL, not ‘Ai’ as in artificial intelligence. Al is far from being a robotron.
Dubs ~ You mean someone other than Alex?
Scott Enos is the main kicker.
Brian Blumberg is the backup.
The clock is messed up. I posted after midnight, but it shows Aug. 11
Sorry Stephen. On impulse, I gave you street initials. Maybe ’cause you use the term, word on the street is…sometimes.
What’s the latest report on your grandchild?
Kekoa:
Call me now.
chawan_cut – thxs for last nights sports report.
top ten although it is Kekoa, hiflyer and Tsai only
So what happend to the yesterdays practice report, did everyone stay home?
No want that Boise kid already. go back and eat some potatoes. boise make me sick.
kekoa is ever lurking to be number one.
shame, shame, shame…..
hope all’s well for kevin bell and family.
still very concerned about our kicking game.
am i being premature by saying welcome back kapono?
he was a highly touted de coming out of kamehameha schools.
Hey Ralph! Been wanting to go practice, but several other committments came up. Maybe Friday. Wanna go?
Trying to tie up some loose ends since my business partner is in for major heart surgery. Burning up ‘puter time on my pc, and using the apple lap top for back-up. This iphone works good when I’m relaxing in bed.
kekoa can’t do morning practices except on wednesdays
Ok Ralph…guess I’ll have to bug Al. Too much pressure on him to handle being #1 on the starting lineup. Maybe a little fresh air will do him good.
Bhf2 ~ Hilo town is spared. Good luck thru the rest of the hurricane season big guy.
Need your support at the south end zone tunnel at the opener! Bring the Hilo Hawaiians. Make plenny noise as we be Backin’ McMackin!
Hiya Kekoa.
Blaze pumped me up on ST’s show.
his answers and tone sounded genuine and sincere.
gonna ask cuz kukapaila fo backup. 😀
Tombo Ahi,
good reads.
Good morning..everyone!
Still on the continent..be back later tonite.
al,
o wize grashopah,
i would say that anyone who has given up his dream to help his family, who wants to help himself and Warrior Nation, is WELCOME. success is a journey, not a destination. 😀
i say good luck to him, and good luck to us.
JaM
hiya. watcha doin?

Good Morning Tsaikos!!
Looks like the rain has finall arrived here on Oahu. I hope it lightens up so the team can get some practice time in. I am glad that they have the Ching Field available to them.
Good morning Tsaikos everywhere!
readin about Derek Dooley an da LaTech bull dogs. i wuz prognosticatin fo Blaze yesterday, who he’d most like to hit.
wasn’t Dooley’s fadda da Georgia Coach years ago, Vince Dooley? an wasn’t Derek da guy givin da wurds to da Georgia Coaches at da Sugar? yup, dats da guy!
but no save yoself fo dem, Blaze. start wackin da hillybillyz 9/4, an take it frum dayah. 😀
Third in da WAC, behind Boise an Nevada? pftt….
an day talk about crackheads in Hawaii. pftt… crackazz. 😀
Hiya BigHilo..Still on my trip..return this pm.
The NCAA does regularly approve waivers when a player like Kapono Rawlins-Crivello moves closer to home to help take care of an ill family member. In fact, often a player does not even have to sit out a single season–he can just play right away.
The complication in this case is that Rawlins-Crivello is transferring between WAC schools, so Karl Benson has jurisdiction.
Best wishes to Kevin Bell and his family. UH still has 2 kickers and Bell wasn’t on scholarship, so his leaving should not hurt the team and will give the other 2 kickers more reps.
Here is Wisconsin’s football poster.
This website has a list of all the Heisman Trophy winners since 1935 and what their status is now.
ST writes about 2008 recruit, Earvin Sione. In todays column we learn that Sione, who sat out last year in getting schooling in order, is playing DE. At 6’4″ and 220 seems like the right position for him. In the article we learn that:
Sione said he was timed running 40 yards in 4.5 seconds last month.
He can bench press 305 pounds. His vertical jump is 38 inches.
These are pretty awesome numbers for the one time DB, but for a DE these numbers are off the chart. Whoa, this is good. It great to see Sione hanging in there–improving his schooling, adding bulk to his frame and making the best of his opportunity. Good luck to him.
Good morning Tsai-kos!!
Still a little jet-lagged.
Best wishes to Kevin Bell.
Took kid in for her physical yesterday. Got her flu shot and tetanus booster. ouch ouch ouch….
OK, off to go over da mountain. School started yesterday. esme and out.
I liked the Earvin Sione story. A DE with that speed and football smarts. What the critics don’t understand is the foundation for McMackin’s defensive reign is taking shape right now.
G’mornin’ Tsaikos –
First of all, Margo wanted me to send a big thank you to Brew and everyone else who wished her a happy “29th”. She’s had her nose and fingers glued to her computer working on a screenplay. The main character is based on ST, and involves a coach (ala) JJ as they go on a recruiting trip to the mainland to land a top recruit. Comedy at its best. We’ll see what happens.
Thanks again to everyone for your patience for the final tix to the Vegas game. I’m trying to figure out the remaining seating chart.
Definitely it is a pleasure to take the time to read a post like this. I’ll be saving it on my favs so I can check it later again. when do you think you would write again about this?
Great Morning All!
Hoping for the best for all these family members of Warrior players who are facing health challenges. Sometimes we need to be reminded to keep some perspective about the role of athletics against the backdrop of real life!
Rich2176,
…and best wishes for continued good health for your Bride!
Sounds like a terrific project she’s got there. Wondering if there is a mysterious “Ferd”-like character navigating for them?
Have a terrific day erryboddy!
Drop the umbrella, take the ensemadas….
HiHo.
Good morning Tsaikos. Kapono Crivelo-Rawlins sounds like a Molokai boy. If he is from Molokai, then his cousin was the pitcher for UH.
hiya Tsaikos.
good read, ST.
best wishes to da tall man!
gettin ready fo da first official K A T O O O S S H H H HH!
I believe he is from Molokai.
Good morning All! Wow, back at work today and I’m already wishing I was back in Hawaii. Well hope everyone has a good one and stays dry. I think I brought some of the rain from Felicia back with me
Kapono is here to stay, whether he plays for UH this year or not.
I wish the young man success. all of them.
Whether he plays for us or not is beyond our paygrade. But since he’s trying, gotta give him props.
gotta go so hi ho hi ho.
esme wooosshhhhhh >>>>>
Aloha Kakahiaka!
So many comins and goins!
Where is the RAIN? Only HUMID on da wessai!!!
morning gang!
good luck to Kapono
Whitey – related to the Kaunakakai Service Station?
Liz – #47 – rain still on Oahu
Re-Brackenridge
According to the other paper: Brackenridge is to a pursue a baseball career instead. This was quote taken from Coach Mack.
Welcome aboard Kapono. Hope everyone is ok within your family.
Loa, if he is from molokai, then he related to all the rawlins including the gas station. on the crivelo side, i don’t know if his dad or granddad used to work with the dept of health. remember there was another player from molokai who went under the radar and ended up playing for a number of nfl teams including the steelers, Kimo V (i think).
Good morning Hawaii – and try to stay dry on Oahu! From my window, Diamond Head looks sunny but hardly can make out Kokohead with drifting rain from Palolo/
Re: Kapono = welcome home and (perhaps) to the Warriors. Mouthwash is off base. If any of our children want to return to Hawaii, welcome!!! Anyone wants to be a Warrior, welcome!
Aloha Kakahiaka!!!
All the best to Kevin Bell.
have they practiced a lot of special teams yet this fall? i know they didn’t at all during spring.
Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂
Welcome aboard, Kapono.
Yep whitey, that was Kimo V you’re thinking of.
The 91st PGA Champinship Tournament at Hazeltine will be a brute.
No major course has ever played as long as big, bad Hazeltine. It’s almost 240 yards longer than the three other majors played this year, and 314 yards longer than when it hosted the 2002 PGA Championship.
Hazeltine boasts a four-hole stretch on its back nine that includes the longest par 3, par 4 and par 5 in the history of the PGA Championship. The par-4 12th is 518 yards, the par-3 13th is 248 and the par-5 15th is 642.
No knockdown shots here.
Having the longest course in major history may make Hazeltine’s members puff out their chests this week with pride, but it’s not going to decide who lifts the Wanamaker Trophy (which, at 44 pounds, also is a brute).
Padraig Harrington had to play 27 holes in the final round at Oakland Hills last year when he won the PGA Championship. Then came the hard part — mustering enough strength to hoist the heaviest trophy among major championships.
“Forty-four pounds,” he said.
“I did manage to get my baby son into the trophy, and got a picture of that,” Harrington said. “We fit him into it. He was about 10 months old at the time. He’s actually in the trophy.”
Harrington said the best thing about such a heavy trophy is that everyone who lifts it will never forget it.
Hope Kapono gets to play. It’s great that he came home to help care for his mother. Prayers for his Mom.
I’m (again) not making it to practice. Would appreciate if any updates on #65 from Tsaikos who attend. Mahalo!
Great news if Kapono gets to play for the Warriors asap. Add some depth to our DE’s if he’s in shape to play.
There is much focus on Coach Tormey as he takes over the ST supervision in what has been a carousel of jerry-rigged ST apprentices over the past 25 years….there is much improvement direction to navigate upwards and hopefully we will see a cat-bounce rather than a pancake flop….there is reason for optimism given Tormey’s experience and background.
Yet, while CCT has been tasked with this 3rd and very important phase of football, he will be equally challenged to bring improvement to a much maligned defensive secondary.
Lack of experience haunts this unit and its vulnerability will be huge this season. Tormey is known for his persistence for details and precise execution and it will be interesting to see if our secondary unit can learn his sytem quickly enuff as the season progresses or if he will have to dummy-down on his schemes to keep it simple. While much emphasis by fans are placed on 40 speed, vertical jumps and physical looks, football intellegence is just as much a key–especially in alignment and on the field instincts.
To be fair, look for progress from our secondary unit as the season goes deep.
That is a mark of solid coaching, talent and player intelligence.
If anyone else still wants to play fantasy football with some tsaikos let me know. If you have any questions or would like to play we have room for 2 more players. email me. djmitcho at yahoo dot com
Welcome home Kapono!
Now go get ’em
Mouthwash – Hope goes out to you that you’re able to see and understand from the players perspective. Look into why Kapono went to Boise in the beginning, then read again why he came back and his current intensions.
Also, coming from that fine Boise program and mixing in with another fine, winning team here in the islands, he might have something new to bring to the table with technique.
You may know the answer to this question, even though you deal with football. Why did Kanani Herring’s name change to Danielson?
Good morning Tsaikos…hope everyone stays dry out there…..
Best wishes to Kevin Bell and family and all the other warriors whose families have health issues. Like d1 said, sometimes when health issues arise, it puts life’s priorities into perspective.
So, ST, if Kapono get the exemption and is allowed to play this year, how many years will he have at UH??
innocent….are you asking or do you also know why?
good to see more and more of our local brothers return to pursue their dreams in manoa.
wf2- your insights are always a good read, especially when you are not insulting others on the blog. I seem to recall a quote from Jacob Patek a couple seasons ago where a coach had asked him on a particular play that resulted in a good gain for the opposing offense “where were you!” To which he replied “I was where I was supposed to be!” That guy had good football intelligence that can be attributed to good coaching. Plus, boy could he HIT!
good to see more and more of our local brothers return to pursue their dreams in manoa.
the latest being tuipolutu, manupuna, rawlins-crivello
after all there’s no place like home.
what happened here?
Thanks Jack
Mr. Pat-AAAACK and his quality insight will be in our memory for a good, long time.
Sending out wishes of continued recovery for Mama Rawlins-Crivello and best wishes to Kevin Bell’s family. Family comes first and we hope things turn out ok. Must be hard to readjust priorities at such a young age, and in my mind, that makes them true warriors.
Can’t wait until opening kickoff. Even though it’s on a weird Friday night for some reason. Football is here. All is right in my world.
good morning everyone, despite the ‘rainy’ look, its still a good morning.
agree Kapono came home for the best of reasons, and why not give him a shot?
and since i’ll forget or not lurking that day……..an advance happy birthday to the next Tsaiko.
howzit Whitey! Hawaiian Air pilots to strike?
UH season preview for the RBs. In addition to discussing LWJ, Inoke, and Rego, they had a nice summary of the two JC RBs.
good to see a tiger in the fold. i believe that earvin sione will have a great career by the time he is done here.
The 2009 WAC Women’s Volleyball Pre-Season Player of the Year changed her last name to honor the stepfather that helped raised her.
d1:
from yesterday, was on a “recon” mission only to see da goods
will leave the buying to Mrs A-House –hmmmmmmmmm, maybe I should not do dat – charge cahd bill goin be beeg!!
g
hopefully a strike will be and should be averted. it would cripple our already fragile economy. hawaiian air may be the single most important business of our state.
Good morning everyone!
…at work today. 🙁
Good luck to Kapono Rawlins-Crivello!
Chawan,
Oh yeah, the special teams and Coach Tormey is looking to have the complete opposite start of last season. Last Saturday the special teams drills were taking place throughout the entire 2.5 hour practice session with them focusing on defending against the downfield opposing punting staffers as well as blocking punts through two different drills not to mention closing practice with the PAT and field goal unit. However I missed seeing Dunnachie in action last we, but hopefully this Saturday he’ll be doing his thing!
If not, Pomai may start a riot!!! 😆
RE: Dunnachie pronunciation.
Is it like “done-a-key”?
OR
“Do-nah-kee” like “NAKI” in Inoke FuNAKI?
Good Luck Kevin Bell. Take care of the Ohana. Best wishes
Here’s a link to an interesting article about how the Navy Media Policy is Most Open in NCAA.
http://navy.scout.com/2/887265.html
I think UH isn’t far behind (once ST yelled, screamed and threw a temper tantrum when UH tried to tighten things up)…
It will be interesting to read part 2 of the article where he will give a complete list of which schools have an open media policy and an update on Air Force’s media policy…
some things just don’t change….
Pathetic.
Can I get a “halleluiah” again on how AWESOME it is to have the privilege to attend UH football practices as fans??? 😎
Good morning to all!
Reminds me of a pretty typical Spring or Fall day in the Pacific Northwe(s)t. Well, except for the heat and humidity.
Best wishes to the families of ailing Warriors.
And, welcome home future Warriors!
huh???? Wot happened???
Hey Stretch!!!
Im sure you’d agree as well as many others here that it’s freakin’ great that UH football practices are open to the public yeah?
Wafan!!!
If you’re ever down here and the time is right I’m sure you’d take advantage of this as well!!! No worries, it’s not like we’re “banned” or anything. 😎
Rich2176- looking forward to seeing that screenplay- GO, MARGO!
Looks like KHNL just went HD on Dish Network…thought that Liz, jm2375 and others might like to know.
Saw the replay of the Warrior Beat Show last night and I LOVED the reaction from both Blaze and Brashton regarding Vaughn “DA REAL F’N DEAL” Meatoga. I tell ya guys and gals… #95 is gonna be MEEAAAANNNNNNNN for years to come!!!
Also good to hear from Blaze that Under Armour is FINALLY taking the initiative of “fitting” each player for their cleats. This should eliminate foot issues. Speaking of, on the morning of last Saturday’s practice I was talking to the father of a current player and I was beating around the bush regarding the UA cleats and he says his son never said anything about them or complains. His son is a defensive linemen. So seems like UA cleat issues are becoming a thing of the past?
have the Warriors started 2-a-days yet?
JDog, I believe the 2 a day starts 2-day 😉
Kazz- the cleats comment was very cool. Nice to see the Warriors getting personal attention for one of their most important pieces of equipment!
Garret- thanks for the news. The Dish situation is interesting. I’m staying with my (so far) default setup- even as more birds are put into service.
Seems like one of the pros of signing with Under Armour is the more personalized service to UH. Think about it, we are one of maybe 10 schools that they sponsor, compared to Nike which seems to outfit everyone and their mom’s school; and only seems to pay great attention to their BCS sweethearts and their spoiled child in Oregon.
I still think Nike has the R and D advantage in the shoe dept. However, Under Armour argubly seems to be as good or even better in the apparrel technology area.
J-Dog ~ ….and we are fortunate that Under Armour accepts being #2. From that level, they can try harder to improve on their product line and take it up a notch. As a result, our kids benefit in more specialized service.
#94 – finally! They never answered the email I sent them months ago about it.
wf2 – please be at practice tomorrow morning so you can spoon feed me some info. I have no clue what I am looking at. I will ask ST to point you out to me if you are too shame to come talk to me.
dont take wf2 comments so personal. he has his opinion and you have yours. ive been in many debates w/ the guy and he will always call you out on your opinions so be ready to back it up. its pretty fun if you ask me.
in the end, you can always agree to disagree.
wf2,
It would be awesome to hear what your impressions of the first few practices are from you own observations!
Kazz I tell you dat Dunnachie is goin be one big weapon for us, and he’s got four years. If he keeps kicking the way he was last Saturday I will predict right now he will be playing in the NFL without a doubt.
Not that it is important but …
I usually power up the computer and read my mail, the HA headlines and the Warrior Blog. Then I read the newspapers – yes, even the “other” one – beginning with the comics, then sports, then the news stories.
Today’s “Pearl Before Swine” – “the internet was specifically invented so that living beings everywhere could be anonymously rude to one another”.
As AL puts it: “’nuff said”
Good Morning Tsaikos and Tsaikettes!
Stretch – There you go, always wanting to play the part of King. You bite! So for those of you who care to spoon feed him….BEWARE!!
letsgowarriors ~
Re: #105
Yes, I do agree with what you’re saying, and I do disagree with him. Besides, he doesn’t really care what anyone else thinks. Attitude is everything. He just happens to be full of it!
Good one Maynard G…
morning everybody, whether you a tsaiko, tsikette, lurker, lurketts (UH808-good one, saw you post it one time), warrior, wahine, fan or not it the season is on so get with it. gotta love that exciting things going happen this 09 year in the 808. whotaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
agree with all who posted welcome back to the returning son/daughters of hawaii. we all stray from time to time but always come back so to all them ….. great to have you back home. go out, work hard and represent 😈
Time to clean out the grills, check for supplies, make sure your gas tanks for the grills are filled… replace burners if necessary.. or… get your take-out phone numbers in order.
woo hoo good to see Earvin finally made it. will he be given a scholie in the future? UH future at DE looking good. A lot of speed and athleticism.
mih,
Remember to check batteries in da rayjo, too!
59 SACKS.
Congrats to Corey Paredes and Richard Torres! Hard work and dedication pays off! 🙂
eh KK when do you return????
Rob25…Stretch bites??? How would you know??? MWAHAHAHHAHA
Ditto #117!
re tweet:
StephenTsai: Richard Torres and Corey Paredes receive scholarships
jj either tonight or next morning
jj what I miss stretch bit rob25 mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Congratulations to Richard Torres and Corey Paredes, both very deserving of their scholarships!
I hope I am able to get some guidance at tomorrow’s practice. I don’t want to be wasting my time watching guys running around.
Rob25 ~ Pay attention gurl. Interesting matchup brewing. *Engineer vs Lawyer.* Best 2 out of 3.
My money is on Stretch. Engineers have lots of leverage. Besides, it’s a classic! The good guy/bad guy match up.
(Rob…what now?..you have hard time deciding who the bad guy is?) 👿
Sort of like at work, eh?!?!
tsai do u know how much credits Sione took at UH-WO last fall? Hopefully 9 to preserve his eligibility clock, he could use a redshirt year.
Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery for Kevin and Kapono’s family member.
Kapono, hope Benson will look favorably on your reason for returning home last year and your playing for the Warriors in 2009 – he owes us plenty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m definitely for the engineer! The other one I’ve already hit the ignore button.
He just likes to be pampered! First class no less!
Eh!…How come nobody invited me into this free-for-all? I AM THE GREATEST! 😎
and, hearty congratulations to Corey and Richard for earning scholarships for 2009.
both hard workers, great work ethic, great individuals, great representatives of “walk-ons” who make the “grade” with positive attitudes, listen/learn from the coaches and team mates.
and, to all student athletes who decided to play on the mainland, you are most welcome home whenever you chose to make the move!!!
letsgowarriors(bows) didn’t sione graduate 2 years ago, had to grayshirt, then academics (personal reasons) he did not enroll and finally this fall he met all entry requirements to start fb practice. if he redshirts, he wouldn’t have played fb for almost 3 years unless he gets a lot of reps as a redshirt.
aloha Tsaikos,
through the raindrops the sun shall shine. football coming up quicker than you can say ‘PERSONAL FOUL’, haha, j/k guys. seems like the playground lost it’s monitor, DPK, i thought you were the ‘official’ monitor, let’s get rolling bro.
glad to hear another local athlete getting the chance to play at home, nothing like playing in front of family, friends, and Tsaikos.
GO WARRIORS
GO WILDCATS
last evening, I attended a dinner meeting and Coach Shoji was the guest speaker who brought Anelli, Kanani, and Emily Maeda.
Coach gave us a quick run down of the players at all the positions and he is optimistic of having a good 2009 with the goal of being in the final 4 in Florida.
Each player mentioned family and friends and wanting to play for Hawaii as the main reasons for choosing to remain home. Kanai said they take an active part in talking to “local” propects on why they should stay home.
I asked Emily how she can accumulate a 4.2 GPA when UH is geared to a 4.0 system. She said, “I got all A’s” and I replied, but that is still a 4.0 to which she replied, “I have no idea”. I’m sure she is in an Honors program. Hey, ST, she is a Rough Rider grad!!!
That one day you slack.
You aint getting back.
So letsgowarriors you stated that you had many battles with warriorfanny2 but as letsgobows vs bowstock on the WSN because you two haven’t done much on this site. Whatever happened to bento? Warriorfanny2 lurks there as warriorfanny but he hasn’t posted. Moderators must know if bowstock posts under another name like warriorfanny.
Howzit Bulla! ~ Playground monitor position got cut. We’re on our best be…NOT!
he graduated in 2008.
u get reps as a redshirt in practice, so he could use this year to get back into football shape after sitting out for a year. i doubt he smells the field at DE this season, unless hes some type of freak.
I hope sione gets a better shot than tua. Tua has been a wondering fb player, no real position to call his own to develop full time, i hope he gets some PT before he graduates.
yes. RBs, Greg Salas’ position, light DEs, recruiting, Brian Smith.
bento is SMUd for life. makes appearances on SH now.
Sione is in a better position to succeed than Tua. I dont think Tua moved to DE till his soph year. Sione is doing it in his freshman year and hes already gained 30lbs in 1 year since graduating. IF* Sione has a redshirt year available, even better as he’ll have 5 to play 4.
On top of that, I believe Tua played TE/WR in HS. Sione was more of an ATH type, played QB & WR as well as some defense.
bulla-
I can hardly control myself, let alone these Tsaikos. Besides, if you haven’t heard, we’re a bunch of mob ruled gang bangers, that’s how we roll, baybee.
And I got five on my homeboy, da engineer. 😆
And we aren’t related to FKK, he’s from another side of the family. Besides I don’t know how to make words in bold face and all that techniciciciccacul stuff.
Good news about Torres and Paredes.
Richard Torres is going to be a huge inspiration to many people before his time is up here. The littlest guy with the biggest heart.
afternoon gang!
congrats to Richard & Corey
Kazz – #85 – “halleluiah”
Stretch – auryte, we get another live report tomorrow
Aloha all,
I guess wf2’s rants (and my response) got the ole’ heave ho from the blog. Good riddance is all i can say!
g
hopefully a strike will be and should be averted. it would cripple our already fragile economy. hawaiian air may be the single most important business of our state.
Al – agreed.
g, we just paying customers, but al’s #1 works for hawaiian and if they no fly, she no fly and no get paid. plus if they no fly, he no can come to maui to rest and recuperate.
Stephen – thanks for the pics, looked like a pretty nice day weatherwise
somewhere along the negotiation route, the pilot’s union should be promoting the good they have done to make the company financially stable and help them get a bigger market share, but they need to have a leader who thinks outside of the box when it comes to negotiation today. the first thing i would publicize and give credit to is the team concept of how the flights are on time. this takes everyone’s cooperation from the ground crew, customer service, flight attendents, and mainly the pilots. Credit on time to them and not upper management. use the news media to your advantage because management will do the same.
Loa, my misspelling, should be Crivello with 2 l.
well if everyone would stop flying united, delta, american, alaska, and all these other airlines to travel to hawaiian destinations on the west coast then we can buy local if you know what i mean. and no forget hawaiian sponsoring the diamond head classic, flew the sugar bowl team, and sponsors other UH stuff. So if you one UH fan then support Hawaiian. You support Go!….you lose money!!
whitey – thanks for the info, had the honor of meeting the gas station proprietor many moons ago
hey, maybe you should help settle the state contracts? no wonder Al call you da mayor 🙂
Richard and Corey are well-deserving of those scholies. Congrats men.
JK, hawaiian air to NOLA was due to Panda Travel, not Hawaiian. Go! is just a competitor and has nothing to do with the pilots. i don’t know if you like the idea of continued payment for baggage when the original intent was to offset excess fuel cost. Now that fuel cost has fallen, why are we still paying for the baggage.
The pilots and other employees work very hard to provide us with the hawaiian spirit when we fly. Unfortunately, many of them have not got back what they sacrificed for the company.
Air competition is good and the entire state depends on them, but at the same time we should try to prevent future “hostage” business. If you are familiar with how United used to control the hawaii market, then killed us by allowing the pilots to strike, you will understand why you need to negotiate outside of the box.
Reply to #60
I stood on the sidelines today and watched the 7 on 7. Without a doubt there is emphasis given to closing to the ball once it is in the air to the receiver. I saw one interception and one close interception in 10 plays. DB’s are starting to fly around (under control) in the defensive backfield.
There is no substitute for speed.
Coach Jimmy Johnson once said “I recruit for speed, technique I can teach.
Go Warriors!!
Speaking of which- so are there any post- first home game activities (breakfast?) being planned for Saturday, Sept. 5? I need to book my return flight asap.
Mahalo!
Don, thanks for the info, but how as the oline blocking?? improved over last year??? when i saw them on maui, i felt that they would do very good this year cause they understand what they need to do.
Don Weir- thanks for the good news on the DB’s!

whitey #145:
You bring up some good points.
If the pilots are to strike, and I personally doubt it’ll ever get to that, it won’t be for at least another month or two at the very earliest. With the next round of talks set for next week, both sides will try to hammer something out.
I think both sides know how much can be afforded, but it’s simply a game of wanting plenty and giving up next to nothing, seeing who’ll balk first. Nonetheless, in the end I believe they’ll agree to something that is amicable to both sides.
Even if the mediator declares an impasse and releases both sides from mediation, there is a 30-day cooling off period that must take place before the pilots can officially strike…..and that’s even IF the mediator decides to release them. IIRC, some early Bush-era mediators refused to release both sides and just left them in mediation, even when it was woefully apparent both sides were getting nowhere…..and those negotiations continue to drag on years later…..
LizK, how’s the weather on Kauai??? all we have left is just some wind, but it is getting h o o o o t t t t t t. had good rain, but my friend sunshine is out in force.

CRW, sometimes both sides need to propose and agree to common grounds and work out their differences without involving mediation, but with today’s corporate mentality, common sense, respect, thinking of customers are not part of negotiation. CPA’s and attorneys do the negotiation for the company today, so people are not as important as the financial statement.
LizK
Not hard to make brunch kine CC on Sat…gotta go ovah what happened at the game! Please stay a little longer…
Whoopie!

and sudden crying spasms.
Congratulations to Torres and Paredes…proof that good things come to those who work hard!!!
The very best of good wishes go to Rick Taylor…he was a positive force during his stay here!
g, we just paying customers, but al’s #1 works for hawaiian and if they no fly, she no fly and no get paid. plus if they no fly, he no can come to maui to rest and recuperate.
ahhh didn’t know that about Al’s #1……
Congrats to Corey, Richard AND Reggie!
So Al flies for free?
i.e. a leach on Hawaiian’s bottom line and the entire Island economy as a whole?
Ahhh whitey…you know i agree with you on competition is good and people work hard and i am not disputing that they not get what they deserve but it has to be in reason. I am not 100% sure but if they are one of the highest paid pilot groups in the nation then there is nothing to complain about. I agree to give them something….but let’s not get crazy and hurt the company financially. What about the non-contract workers who do just as much as anyone in the company but get nothing….raises are at the whim of the company and that don’t happen?? All i’m saying is people need to support local companies like Hawaiian whenever possible. Everyone charges for baggage fees…that is the way life is now. Fuel is so volatile that it can change quickly and then what…take away baggage fees and then start charging when they go up….that would look pretty dumb.
And Hawaiian did step up and provide flights to New Orleans when there weren’t very many ways to get there and that was not an easy thing to do in a short time.
Re-Why I think more locals kids will opt for UH
Having read many articles describing that when the economy goes south, like how it is now, the natural tendencies are for athletes wanting to stay closer to home is a shift that I think will benefit UH.
With how the recession has an effect on families, some athletes are opting to stay home in helping their parents and siblings.
Also, I think, with the high cost of traveling and other expenses incurred of having to go to the mainland schools as another factor of why the local athletes wanting to stay home/or come back.
Another reason, and probably the most important and profound, are that the local kids are seeing and hearing a lot of good things resonating from Manoa. And it’s alluring and they are beginning to gravitate towards it (IMO gradually), for there are facility upgrades, a swelling of fan support, a emphasis on school work, a yearning and support for UH teams to represent well and they can see other aspiring athletes/peers ascending onto the next levels (i.e., MLB, NFL, Olympics).
Furthermore, they see the current UH athletes, whom are the custodians of many fans and supporters hopes and dreams, being applauded for the small things on message boards (like being on the scout teams, leading off season workouts, doing well in school etc) that this could be aspiring to them, too.
Also video interviews and the WB show speaks volumes of current UH athletes, with eyes so wide, and excited, and spirited, speaking well of their coaches and teams that it may also add additional influence to the prospective athletes, too. Especially when they note how honest and unified the athletes come across.
All of the above reasons factor in as to why we are seeing local athletes returning or prospective athletes joining the UH. What shortcoming, or voids, UH had in the past the UH is filling, like the locker room upgrades and athletic field, that not only are they uplifting it’s also perpetuating a spirit and pride in the school that’s becoming attractive to our local kids. The voices, from fans, and from the athletes, likewise, are filled with optimism that are indeed making the local athletes taking notice.
las vegas,
Best wishes to Shadow and Skippy!
Last trip to HNL, HA charged me a total of $ 85 for luggage
and rammed me repeatedly with the food/beverage carts and
the rock hard armor plated girdles the FA’s wear.
Not complaining really, I wonder where they sell those girdles
football team could use them too
whitey #161:
Unfortunately, what you’ve written is true.
They’ve had over two years to figure something out, but it looks like one side or the other has been dragging their feet. In the meantime, the status quo remains (per Railway Labor Act laws).
BG- ok. will stay longer.
whitey- Kalaheo has passing showers- normal weather. Little bit windy. Waimea was VERY hot last couple of days and nights- no rain but HUMID!
LizK,
It’s the first Saturday of CFB. Like BG says it wouldn’t be hard to get together somewhere with some flat screens, fuud and suds for all-day football!
(cue it up, SteveM! 😆 )
JK, understand what you are saying, but that is exactly what management promotes and uses. and just for info, southwest does not charge for the first 2 bags and jet blue does not charge for the 1st bag. baggage charge is used instead of putting in the airfare because management cannot get that money by putting it in your airfare price. just look at air history whenever any airlines wants to rate their rates they have to rescind. also forgot, when you go on an international flight, you do not pay baggage charges for the first 2 bags and both can weigh not more than 70 lbs. how’s them apples?????
las vegas,
I’m assuming KIKU HANA has its own version of “Tina”.
ideal negotiation would be just the CEO of Hawaiian Air, the pilot’s president, and a person to be the go between. no one else and everything would be recorded. Isn’t that one of the major reason why you hire a CEO and the union elects a president???? during each tenuare, they could get together for coffee, dinner, golf, or attend a company sponsored event to develop an understanding of each other and their organization. ok, like al, nuff said.
good luck to Rick. Head-scratching move, but good luck to him.
Good luck to Rick Taylor. Thought he could have helped the Warriors this year.
It’s official.
I’m in for the Washington State game!
Does anyone going have an extra ticket for that game? I know I won’t have any issues buying a ticket, but I’d rather sit with the group.
SteveM, watch out for an e-mail from me.
d1島 — re: #176. I think everywhere has their version of Tina. Speaking of which, while my cuz recognizes many Tsai-kos, Tina knows most. Anyone wanting something should see her. Slugger and her family are well connected there. I am only a pesky relative that shows up once in a while 😐
Committed Road Warrior — glad you can make the Washington game. Read that you can make the UNLV one too. Please send me your logistical data for both games!
CRW- congrats! Cheer loudly for us guys too!
SteveM –
yeah, right. 🙄
D1,
It’s the mama san from Naha
Good Luck to Rick Taylor.
Mahalo for being a good team member which includes getting the job done in the classroom!
las vegas,
I hope I’m not expected to eat bitter melon! 👿
JM#### re 184, I second that!!!
Good luck to Rick. He may have been a victim of the JUCO recruiting onslaught the last couple of years. The receiver position has definitely become more competitive, with faster, quicker and more athletic guys.
Even with baggage charges the air fares continue to go up. Most travelers stuff on their handcarried bags and shove them into the overheads. Talk about hazardous! I have seen several bags fall from the compartments barely missing unsuspecting passengers.
Tack on the additional charge on the ticket.
Irks me when they claim it is because of the fuel. HA! $25 SEA/HNL and SEA/PDX. Interesting.
Mama is from Uchina but she does mostly Yamatonchu
Wafan,
lucky they don’t charge you for an extra seat
Slim persons like myself don’t sweat it
SteveM,
Sending you an e-mail regarding my UNLV logistics (forgot to put them in my previous e-mail to you).
Is it too late to RSVP for the Friday Night Get-Together?
LV . . .
From what I understand the worst part is forgetting to put up the middle armrest before sitting down in the seats. Is this true?
las vegas, no laugh. they were seriously considering charging for weight and i don’t mean bag weight.
warriors are really cranking up practice. ouch, ouch, ouch!!!!!!
wafan, ST get plenty of experience with overhead bags.
whitey . . .
And, things underfoot.
Congrats to Corey and Richard.
Good luck to Rick Taylor. Take care.
Maybe Robert could do for UH what Gaylord use to do after kickoffs.
Good Afternoon ST’sters, I’ll take your rain any day, it was 107 today, still 102 at 7:44 pm.
I didn’t read every post, so I don’t know if someone has already answered the question about Vince Dooley, I’ll go ahead anyway. He has been the AD at Georgia for maybe 20 years, and before that he was the long term head coach. Mark Richt has been the head coach going into his 9th year, good guy succeeded Dooley, but all of you guys know that. I’ve got a pet peeve I wish someone could shed light on: Why do NFL teams make QB’s number one choices? You look at the guys such as ex-USC QB’s who have been pathetic in the NFL, and there’s Alex Smith at the 49’ers. I’m willing to bet there are as many 2nd round picks starting as 1st rounders. When I was thinking about Georgia, Matthew Stafford came to mind, he was supposed to be the best QB in the draft, but I don’t see it.
200!
Shucks.
Congratulations to Torres and Parades on their new scholarships.
Good luck to Taylor.
Pity the fools who try to mess around with Fonoti’s girl. Yep, that could get uh-gah-lee.
Wishing a quick and full recovery for Kevin Bell’s and Kapono Rawlins-Crivello’s ohana. Lots of positive energy for you from the tsaiko family.
I was impressed reading about Kapono Rawlins-Crivello, putting family over football. I hope he gets an exemption. Tell me if I’m off but when a guy transfers within the same conference, he has to stay out of football for 2 years, and he loses 1 year of eligibility, that’s why nobody does it. If Kapona played for two years at that school in west I-dee-ho, he would have two years left minus the one year penalty, so he really only has one year to play, unless he gets the exemption, Right?
Wafan,
Well…. just that one time
almost changed my gender
WHERE DID ROBERT KEKAULA GET THAT HAT?!?!?!?!
I WANT THAT HAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😈
Best of luck to Rick Taylor!
Must have been a constant uphill battle having to play behind the likes of J-Riv, CJ, Davone, and RGM in your first season and then behind Greg Salas and Malcolm Lane.
Hopefully his talents will be utilized where he is headed.
Karl Benson,
why you gotta take so long fo figure out to give da kid an exemption.
check da facts. 1. Did da mudda have a serious medical condition, like a heart attack? 2. Did da kid miss school because he went home to take care of da mama?
an if you affirmed doze questions as true, whats da prolem? he not black? he not white? he not MexTex? he not from Idaho, hanging in toilets at airports?
whats your problem? you having a problem fighting with yourself?
Ralph,
what is your email address? I have something to send to you.
A-house,
This year is a question mark as to how far the Wahine will advance into the NCAA tourney beyond ANOTHER WAC Championship.
Got some new and needed height upfront with redshirt freshman 6’3″ Brittany Hewitt, true freshman 6’2″ Kristiana Tuaniga, sophomore transfer 6’4″ Alexis Forsythe.
Also got some more new blood on the outside with sophomore transfer 6’3″ Corrine Cascioppo.
There was a lot being said about Forsythe and Cascioppo a few months ago, but I haven’t seen them play so I cannot say. I saw Hewitt in action against Nebraska a few months ago for the spring exhibition and she held her own with a few “roofers” (solo blocks).
To me it will be interesting to see who “wins” the “defensive backcourt” job. It looks like Ka’aihue has a slight edge over Jayme Lee, but that was only evident during that same exhibition game against Nebraska. Clearly Ka’aihue is the stronger server of the two and she can be just as quick as the smaller Lee. Both were plagued with injuries in the past though… Then enter Emily Maeda into the mix, who also saw some good time against Nebraska and she did well also. However, as a redshirt freshman this season, Maeda has time on her side to mature as a player on the Division 1 level as opposed to her “elder” counterparts Lee and Ka’aihue.
My favorite will be leaving us after this season and I cannot wait for Amber Kaufman to take hold of this team as a senior leader. She is one of the finest female all-around athletes at UH and the fact that I, and many, have seen her wear her emotions on her sleeve is something I admire and respect.
Another leader, Aneli Cubi-Otineru will have another great year as her serve game will be well-polished. One of the most powerful outside hitters will be a key to how far she can lead the younger Wahine to victory night in and night out.
Kanani Danielson… what can I say that hasn’t already been said about this future UH Circle of Honor inductee? She raised a lot of eyebrows last season and the weight of expectations will be heavier this season, but she’ll be fine provided she can remain 100%. Hope her ankle and hand/thumb injuries from last season are nothing but distant memories.
At setter I don’t think much will change as Dani Mafua will be the front runner with Stephanie Brandt getting her share of the setting duties as Coach Shoji sees fit with regards to the rotation. Brandt, I have always felt, is one of the “un-sung” leaders on this team and I mean that from a fan perspective. She has to be one of the better “defensive” players on the team and one of the best pure athletes as well. Her senior year will be based on what she will be able to do with the time she will have during matches.
Who can replace Jamie Houston? Seriously? When Houston was on her game, everything was like breathing to her on the court. But provided Stephanie Ferrell is 100% coming into camp, we might just be ok for years to come! 😉 Ferrell’s 2008 season started out great with key kills against then #9 Washington in that come-from-behind win. Her play was not as consistent as we hoped for, but then again her opportunities to perform had to come AFTER Houston. Ferrell has the power to be dominating on the outside and if she can make her own mark, she’ll have a great 3 years at UH.
In closing, one statistic always seemed to stand out to me when I was at the games over the past few seasons. Whenever I’d look up at the scoreboard, we’d be getting outworked when it came to blocks. I am FAR from being a volleyball expert when it comes to the X’s and O’s, but with the new and TALL blood coming into UH as I mentioned earlier, maybe that too will be a thing of the past.
Colt to play tomorrow. Anywhere to catch the game locally?
Speaking of Wahine Volleyball…
As ST mentioned about a month ago, the University of Hawai`i is conducting the “Serving Up 1,000” fundraiser to commemorate the milestone that Dave Shoji, head women’s volleyball coach, is on the verge of achieving. Entering the 2009 season, Coach Shoji, who is in his 35th year at the UH helm, is 16 wins shy of reaching 1,000 career wins and becoming just the second coach in NCAA history to ever reach the 1,000-victory plateau.
The University of Hawaii wants to recognize this tremendous achievement by matching each one of Coach Shoji’s 1,000 victories with 1,000 donations. You can make your donation online. In recognition of your gift (which is tax deductible), a paper volleyball bearing your name will be displayed in the Stan Sheriff Center concourse. Your name will also be posted on the UH website at the conclusion of the fundraiser.

Loa,
Dey u go! Nice to see practice in person where the fans can make their own individual opinions based on things happening in front of them.
That way all the other assumed crap from others far away from the action is just as futile as carrying internal angst when one is unable to live vicariously through their children after they too cannot cut it at the college level of football.
ST ~
Saw you on the field at practice.
Can’t tell y’all much since I don’t know much about football details. Saw Kahai in drills. He has a build like his Dad, good ting not like Nalani. 🙂
Why was Billy Ray running around the perimeter of the field with a football?
Nice to be able to sit on the bleachers.
Mitch sent you my email through facebook message
Slugger:
Billy Ray hurt his foot/leg and cannot practice.
Kazz:
your #214 – tried to make a donation, but the “system” would not accept my donation unless I filled out the credit card info including the 3 digit secret/security code in the back of the card.
no, no, no – anyone who does that and someone decides to “borrow” your credit can do so with any “call-in” purchase and can pass the security by providing that “secret code number”.
makes you wonder why some “brilliant” person who created the “fill in the blank” would make it mandatory to give out such sensitive info.
bottom line – no donation!!!
Kazz:
Coach Shoji mentioned the 2 tall trees and said he tried to recruit them out of high school, but both slacked off during their senior year and were academically ineligible – both are best friends who went to different JCs and both ended up in Hawaii.
Coach did say that they do need some work before they can really contribute. Hope they are fast learners and stay healthy.
Also, Emily Maeda is hurt and her return to the court is uncertain although I did see her near the net during Channel 7 sports tonight at 6pm.
A-House,
Koa Anuenue’s website is site secure. I do a lot of shopping online and I’ve never had issues. Just as long as that little yellow “lock” icon is on the bottom right side of the website it’s 99.9% safe.
I have monthly deductions coming out of my checking account to the UH foundation and I provided the same info with no issues.
Sad to hear Rick Taylor is transferring. I really wanted to see him get some PT.
haven’t been on here in a lllloooonnnngggg time. glad it’s still going strong.
JIM DONOVAN ON LEAHEY AND LEAHEY IN 20 MINUTES.
I’ll try to post a recap for our mainland Tsaikos.
Oh yeah… the REAL UH fans will always keep things going! 😎
Best wishes to Rick Taylor.
Texas is adding something to their helmet this season to support the troops, something Mack Brown came up with after he returned from his trip to the Middle East.
North Carolina players will be taking a very interesting pill before practice–if this works, this might be a good way to monitor the health of the players and prevent deaths due to practices in extreme heat/humidity.
A-House,
Thanks for the elucidation. He did point to his R foot when talking to someone on the field.
He, Alex Green & ?? were working on resistance training for shoulders (?) w/ elastic bands clipped to the fence. Reminded me of some PT exercises I was given, except I was using weenie bands.
Just have to say…Rodney Bradley! Royce Pollard! Kealoha Pilares!
I got Brian Blumberg’s nickname wrong. It’s “Frodo.” He & Scott Enos were making their field goals all the way to the 35 yd. line.
No doubt Kazz.
does anyone know what time next tuesday’s practice is at?
Many other football teams have already started using this pill.
Lori is absolutely killing me in scrabble (#$%@ 7 letter words)…at least I can blog when it is her turn.
Bess was the only punt returner candidate for Miami that was able to complete this drill successfully.
Analysis about why Bess is beating out Ginn for the punt returner job even though Ginn was drafted so high partially for his return skills.
Anyone going to the grand opening of Rainbowtique in downtown?
Samson’s coach seemed to indicate today that their starting center position wasn’t set yet.
Bess is looking forward to seeing his Madden rating go up. Considering last season he was an unproven rookie free agent and he enters this season after an excellent rookie year, his video game stats should definitely be decent now.
08/12/2009 Leahey and Leahey w/Jim Donovan Recap.
(UH-related topics)
-Pops opens up talking about Malcolm Lane and calls him “the man” and questions his red-shirt decision and says that the team will lose a “leader”. Kanoa agrees it will be a loss as well and feels Malcolm Lane is giving off a “dis-interested” vibe with regards to the team and feels just as confused about Lane’s decision to redshirt.
***Note*** Like me, Jim Leahey watched the highlights of the BJ Penn fight and refused to pay the PPV cost or watch the entire event… Jim Leahey ain’t comin around to the MMA fad and neither am I… 😎
-Pops brings up to Jim Donovan, all the things that he’s had to deal with since he came aboard (Coach Mack slur, Wahine Basketball coaching controversy, $$$ issues, etc…). Pops then brings up the coaches possibly giving up percentages of their salaries. JD mentions that “most likely” the coaches will be verbally asked to participate in the cuts. JD stresses that no one at UHAD has officially asked the coaches to participate in salary cuts. Donovan mentions that other WAC members are worse than us in that some other WAC schools have cut 48% out of their budget.
-Kanoa asks JD about how close UH is to cutting a sport. JD says “not close”. JD mentions that the sports that could be cut don’t cost that much to run anyway.
-Pops mentions the importance and emphasis of “winning” on the individual coaches. JD says being a coach is a tough job and that the reality is that the performance is what it is all about and more important now considering the economy. JD says that UH athletics can carry the entire state when programs are successful and points out how the 2007 Sugar Bowl year was THE news of the year and everyone was “lifted” positively from it.
-Kanoa brings up the Coach Mack controversy. JD again mentions that Coach Mack is a good person and that everyone is going to move on and learn from it. JD says that he is proud of the way the athletic department and the university handled the situation.
-Pops asks JD what he and Coach Mack was doing in Japan. JD says that they were figuring out how they can get a Japanese national to sign with UH football to draw Japanese visitors to attend UH football games when they visit Hawaii.
-Pops asks what is the best thing that has happened to JD since he became AD. JD mentions improvments in the academics of athletes and how 93% of the UH athletes graduated. JD mentions that next goal is a 65-70% rate of how many UH programs enter post season play.
-JD says the worse thing thus far has been the budget.
-Kanoa talks about the future and asks JD how nervous JD is entering a new sports season. JD says he is “anxious” and mentions positive outlooks with Wahine volleyball and soccer and then mentions UH football as another reason for UH fans to be excited.
Feature article on the “Cult of Colt”.
Homey, no can…
P.S. save some UA merch for me ok? 😉
so, how wuz da practice? do da oline guyz looks like day belongin?
BHF2,
I went to afternoon practice. Can’t give you much info on the oline. Maybe ST can fill you in.
I think the O-line is going to be better, and for lots of reasons. I think they’ll have better coaching. I think the line has a better idea of their roles and what precisely is expected of them. I think all the guys would like us to make us forget last year. I think Alexander is much more comfortable, and will be making decisions faster. I think as the line plays more with Alexander, they’ll be better able to make adjustments. I think the receivers will be more dangerous in their patterns, so that should keep the defenses honest. I also think the running game will improve with either a healthy Leon or Alex Green, so I think that too will keep the the defenses honest.
I’ll feel even better if I knew the line could effectively run a hurry-up, but there is still time.
Anyone know if Colt’s game can be seen locally tomorrow?
COLT SPEAK:
http://www.coltbrennan5.com/brennanbeats.html
“What’s up everyone? I’m sorry that I haven’t been able to update you the last few days. We have kind of come to the end of training camp and are getting into game mode. We’ve pushed through some two-a-day practices lately and have installed our game plan for Baltimore. Things will be flying tomorrow, everyone knows how good Baltimore is and there are some big expectations for us. I’m getting ready and trying to get comfortable; it’s crazy what a difference a year makes. The one thing that I know is no matter what I did in the preseason last year or this year in training camp, it all starts over for me tomorrow night – Game on!!
5:09 PM EST on August 12, 2009”
Kazz
Mahalo for all the great posts…especially about the Wahine VB. Wow! Impressive!
lava- we’ll have to scan the net for a stream come gametime. NFL Network has a delay showing on Friday.
Kazz, thanks so much for the L&L Show recap!
Kazz:
unfortunately for me, last year, within 8 hours after I had used my credit card at Downtown Longs, I get a call from my credit card company asking me to verify a transaction to pay a Mobi account and I tell them no way – use only Verizon!
with the UH system, your info is available 24/7 for anyone to use without your authorization.
guess whenever I decide to donate, I will write a check.
Liz
Really appreciate your Colt-links!!! Is it true that you don’t need to sleep?!!!
And a really BIG thank-you to Garret for all his news searching to keep the Tsaiko Nation well rounded…himmm…maybe that’s being redundant when talking about Tsaikos! hehehe
Re: Colt TV –
Try channelsurfing.net (Put the www. in front). Right now, the viewing “guide” says the game will be on at 7:30pm EST. I think it’s EDT.
The other source is justin.tv (Again add the www. in front). I’ve had good success w/ those sources. Often, they get cut off, but you have to hunt around for someone “sharing” the feed. 🙄

The Chevy Volt may get 230 miles per gallon in city driving–the Volt could really be an important car for GM if it can become a huge seller and lead to a line of plug-in cars.
Re: Kapono –
Sounds like he WILL play as a Warrior!!! Good for him (and us). 😀 The question is whether he has to sit and have only on year, or if he still has two to play. He RS his first year in spud-land. Main thing is he’s there for his family and helps his mom get back to 100%! 😀

Congratulations to Richard Torres & Corey Paredes on earning their scholarships! 😀
Best wishes to Rick Taylor! Hope you get your PT and Masters! 😀
Kevin Bell – Spend the time with your ‘ohana! We’ll be keeping you and your family in our thoughts and prayers. And we’ll be waiting for your return! We can always use help kicking some WAC ‘okole! 😆
Oh…. and speaking of WAC ‘okoles….
It’s really unfortunate that the other piece of the puzzle Re: Mr. Rawlins-Crivello falls within the auspices of that Blue-Donkey loving representative…. otherwise better know as WAC “constipation”. 😈
Oops…. I mean commissioner…. 😈
Where’s Ralph? 🙄
He’s a Cubs fan… I think he’s punished enough as it is… 😳
Awww… all this time here and we didn’t get chance to see Rick Taylor play. Hard luck, but I got a chance to meet his dad. What a great person and an excellent coach!
Good Luck Rick! Mahalo.
Hey – local TV (for me) will be showing the ‘boys vs. Raiders – taped delayed. Tough choice! I’ll be rooting for Samson and McBriar. I’d also like to see a MMA match between Mr. Davis, and Mr. Jones – might make for a good pregame or halftime show! 😀
Hey – SJ Bobkins!!!
Okay just being a little silly – but every time you post, I think of Bilbo Baggins! Heheheh…. 😆
bstunna2002 – You asked about next weeks practices?

Aiyah! Try wait.
Returning to Monday’s blog about football terminology: I know about Football For Dummies, but unplanned-for expenses mean discretionary expenditures such as buying a book on football basics or attending a football spectator clinic in order to understand the game better have to be put aside for a few months. Just repairing the jimmied lock on our car which someone broke into it last week in Costco’s parking lot cost $226.76.
I did try to borrow a copy of Football For Dummies from the library during the 2007 and 2008 seasons, but the reserved list for both years had so many names on it that it would have been well into February of the following year before my name would come to the top.
When I tried to check out a copy of the book this past weekend, the only one at that particular branch was damaged. I am not sure how many other copies are currently available in the system anymore although at one time there were well over a dozen.
If a lot of them are damaged, I doubt that replacements would be high on the library system’s purchase list given the budgetary constraints all state agencies & departments are facing. Will check after the Manoa Makeover workday on Saturday.
That’s why I really appreciate it when folks like Jason, Garret and BG answer my questions. By doing so, they encourage others to ask questions as well. That’s one of the things that makes this blog different – that it isn’t necessary to be an expert on football to take part.
CHANGE OF SUBJECT: Once again there’ll be recycling services at the home game T-Gates. The bin(s) will be set out no later than 11 am and all the recyclables – including donations brought from home – will be picked up during the breakdown an hour or so before the opening ceremonies. More details forthcoming.
ALL of the redemption fee donations will be made on behalf of the Tsai-kos & will be distributed within 48 – 72 hours of each T-Gate. Mahalo in advance for supporting these athletic programs.

Go Warriors.
it seems like
we’reI’m kinda countin on da offense to keep us in the game, give the defense time to adjust.meanin, gotta practice da hurry up an no huddle offensive schemes so da guyz have betta chances of pullin dem off successfully.
meanin, gotta practice makin fasta decisions, gettin da playz in fasta frum da sidelines, gettin coach to make fasta decisions.
how you tink we doin in dat area? 😀

Good morning Tsaikos.
Great Morning All!
22 days until FOOTBALL!
Hoping that Pauoa Boy is doing okay. Been a while since we heard from dat buggah… 🙄
Good morning bulla, whitey, D1.
GREAT article ST! those 2 are deserving. liked how coach talks about taking care of our own.
Women’s boxing will be a sport at the next Summer Olympics.
Don’t be surprised if the honeybears come with an attitude. they got 15 players 1st team dis an dat, and samoa on second team. 22 days till we give dat Clint Conque an his Central Arkansas hillybillyz sum cracks! 😀
Our Maui Tsaikos might be interested to know that Sprint will be offering mobile WiMAX service on Maui by the end of this year. This should reduce the price of high-speed internet access on Maui (competition is always good for the consumer).
Even more interesting to me is that the same equipment will be used in Maui and Oahu, so it is possible that laptops with Clearwire or Sprint service would get internet access on both islands.
The UH Foundation added two new members to their Board. One of the new Board members played football for UH and at least some people here will remember him.
The NCAA is thinking about making is a LOT more expensive to move up to D-I. Going from $15,000 to $1 million is a huge price increase!
Nice read by “Ferd” this morning.
I like Coach Tormey’s outlook: Big time is where you are.
Hope his efforts pay off big time for the team this season.
Good morning Tsai-kos!
Guessing ST will put up a new post after practice?
Congrats to Torres and Paredes. Your hard work paid off!!
Congrats to Mike Tresler, one half of that dynamic duo, along with Mento Maeva. I loved watching them play.
😳 look at the time!
HiHo….
Aloha Kakahiaka!
Rain, at last!
HiHo!
