Day after
• It’s too bad cornerback Steve Christian won’t be able to play for an extended period. Christian suffered a labrum injury that will require surgery. He redshirted as a freshman last year.
• Just because UH can endure the loss of wideout Malcom Lane, it doesn’t mean it won’t be easier without him. Lane left training camp to tend to “personal business.” Not only does Lane have experience — he has not redshirted in his first three UH seasons — but he offers leadership and a breakaway threat as a kick returner.
• It was a good decision to move Paipai Falemalu to defensive end, where he can use his speed and strength to complement rush end Fetaiagogo Fonoti. Now UH has to complete the task and move first-day players Waylon Lolotai and Alema Tachibana from defensive end to linebacker.
• It was interesting to see the coaches work on the little details, such as the defense practicing breaking the huddle. Little things often mushroom into big things.
• Nice to see wideout Craig Bell back on the field. Give him credit for overcoming two ACL surgeries. He was supposed to apply for a medical retirement; now he might contribute.

• Well, Curveball has a rather unique double-vision.

Howzit Al?!…did it again!
Good to have football back in season
Yea baby!
Pre-season has begun.
tick tock
hell yeah baby!! UH football is back and is back with a vengence! too bad about all the stuff going on so far (lane, hafoka, christian, etc). hopefully everything will turn out ok. awesome reports so far…time to get the job done and this is where it starts.
happy aloha friday everyone from the sunny but rather chilly 408.
Howzit Kekoa & Ewagirl
And to the rest of everyone soon to follow
Is 408 San Jose? San Mateo?
D-1 ~ The official Aloha Fridaysong please sir!
In the “swarm” picture, the guy who is second to the left is Jay, a member of the media relations department. He’s a very good photographer/videographer, etc., etc. But it seems odd, in hindsight, that he is positioned alongside the mainstream media waiting for a group interview with McMackin. Not sure why UH would want it’s own video of Mack’s post-practice briefing. I think UH should do what our bloggers do: post links to all of the newscasts. Saves money, saves time. Just a thought.
Morning Kekoa…see you are up early to unseat the Navy and reclaim your spot at numba 1…
the 408 is the greater san jose area.
stephen…btw…did you get the email i sent a couple of weeks ago? the one you asked for?
Oh, you know what day it is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYxnXMYHMPY
who is the guy in the blue blocking all the cameras?
Aloha Kakahiaka!
GO WARRIORS!
HiHo!
808:
OK, I screwed up — again — on the e-mail.
Can you send it to: sstsai@hawaii.edu.
I’ll send it out today. And to make sure, Liz, can you keep reminding me. Thanks.
can christian apply for a medical redshirt if hes out the entire season?
Good morning Tsaikos everywhere.
Go Warriors! hi ho >>>>>
The guy in the blue is Pakalani Bello.
He’s also a member of the sports media relations department. He used to oversee women’s volleyball and baseball. Now I think he does soccer and baseball.
Aloha Kakahiaka!!!
Good morning one and all. Go warriors!
letsgowarriors:
Christian may apply for a medical hardship.
But because he already has redshirted, his application would be for a sixth year. He can’t apply for a sixth year until he completes his fifth year. In his case, that would be after the 2012 season.
He’s a smart guy. He actually wants to study neurosurgery.
Hey, lava, that was a great report yesterday.
All of you did a great job.
Well, except for sjmacro. He tried to show me up by writing about all of the players who showed up a half-hour early. C’mon, everybody knows I show up late, even to the first practice.
408 is San Jose ST
Think they’d want to come to my garden plot for study samples?
Too bad about Steve Christian. Hope he can get a medical redshirt.
Why does the UH roster say “Kevin Bell”,#28, not Craig Bell?
ah yes. i never understood why some guys get an immediate medical redshirt (jeramy bryant) and some have to wait till after their 5th year to apply (LP, nasti). thanks.
sweet! thanks stephen. i just emailed it.
the 408 ain’t san jose state in my book PONO. we all know when UH comes, we outnumber the spartan fans. we’ll show it again this year when the boys come to town!
Kevin Bell is the kicker i think. Craig Bell was #24 last year.
lgw,
You’re right! Pictured is Craig Bell. Need kope…
I didnt mean 408 is SJSU its SJ and I was addressing ST (Steve Tsai)
I figured I’d post this in honor of Curveball before someone else does:

It is too bad about Steve Christian’s injury, but hopefully he’ll have a full recovery for either later this season or next season.
Good MOrning All! Hope everyone has a good Aloha Friday
ah…i gotcha PONO. thought you were EMPHASIZING the ST like STATE! my bad yo.
Good morning Hawaii!

Thanks for the “clean up” info for the lower campus.
Mrs A-House and I are the first Tsaikos to sign. Will forsake watching practice to help JD’s mission.
I hope Malcolm is not a casualty like Tyler was last year.
Oh and I thought Rob DeMelo was taller then what he is in that picture???
Bess was first team WR today, Camarillo was moved to second team.
Aunty Liz…Aunty Liz!…You like we make Dodge Ball at da Tail Gate, hah?
What happened to Hafoka? Is GDL in training camp?
Whoa!…Bess is 1st Team WR! Whoo Hoo! Warriors Rule baby!
Merry end of the week everyone!
Whats happening with Jason Rivers, is he playing anywhere now?
I’m glad football is back…go warriors!!!
Howzit Tsaiko Nation!
Jun Tao (#42) — you beat me to the punch. That “…tend to “personal business…” euphemism gives me disturbing flashbacks to Tyler Graunke’s pilikia last year! We can’t have any more of that this year! Say it ain’t so, Malcolm!!

kekoa…not fair.
i hope lane will get his stuff together.
that thins numbers big time at wr. that does catapult jovonte in to the spotlight and gives him more practice reps, however, i was thinking he would be ready mid-season.
that could also mean that salas will get an occasional rep at wr since we do have the horses and numbers at slotback.
or would you think that blount would go outside too?
A-House,
I’ll see you & the Mrs. at UH for the Manoa Makeover.
Esme & out….
Pomai,
I think that the Spokane Shock waived Jason Rivers and nobody has signed him since then. If the AFL has around he might have had a shot there. My Google News searches haven’t picked up any news about him lately.
just when christian was poised to get some pt in dime packages and special teams….argghhh.
Calling all Tsai-kos and Tsai-kettes. Yesterday there was a discussion of Pride going bolohead if we reach the $2,000 goal during his participation next weekends in Relay-for-Life. Let’s see if we can make this happen…
You don’t have to make a big donation (even though it certainly help). I challenge each and every one of you to skip a specialty coffee or fast food meal and support Pride. Check out Pride RFL website http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR/RelayForLife/RFLFY09PL?px=12593159&pg=personal&fr_id=16901 for details.
Breast Cancer is a cause close to both Pride and my hearts. Pride lost his mother back in 2005 and Mrs. SailorBlue was a lucky one and has been clear for 7 years now.
If you are unable to donate, how about coming out on the 15th and lending moral support.
Thanks for the support. SailorBlue out.
….racking my brains as to who will be the new grad asst.
first prerequisite is a degree.
second would be knowledgeable in our system.
third would be some experience or potential at coaching.
fourth able to handle the financial challenge.
not too many candidates out there.
i was thinking, perhaps some shifting of duties could occur and the new grad asst could be placed elsewhere.
to help the dline or oline perhaps???
don’t we have student mgrs in ilaoa and chang who could slide over under ron lee’s tutelage?
sailorblue…..nice. just a handful of tsaikos came forward yesterday to aid in pride.’s relay for life efforts.
hey, last year didn’t we all help out jason’s drive. c’mon now.
stay home one night instead of clubbing, karaokeing, and the like and put your name in the hopper.
ST – Is Steve Christian’s injury to the shoulder labrum or the hip (like Colt’s)? Just curious…
a little chuckle to myself……
perhaps the sid’s chronies video tape all of mack’s interviews and perhaps they also have bugged his phones as well just to document what ever else mack spews from his lips.
soon, they will also be asking him to stop referring to opponents and his own players as “mothers” in his conversations. for all we know, esme’s gals(mom’s [mother’s] like me…) could get on his case.
SailorBlue / al,
Done!

Dan Johnson is a first-day guy.
Steve Christian hurt his hip. He’s going to undergo surgery.
ST reported Christian has a hip injury
Al Ilaoa and Chang did not graduate, GA requirement. Managers can’t coach.
ST #23: Not showing you up or taking your job, just wanted to be early to get parking and get the “tree”. 😀
Great to see Tsaikos and players ohana again.–sj & myki
Does anyone know if George Dailey-Lyles is in camp.
Al – Since it seems to be just the two of us in here…where did everybody go?…
Good point. I’ve felt all along that this was a mountain-out-of-a-molehill situation. The word he used was just a slightly stronger synonym for “wuss.” If he’d called it a “wussy” dance, there wouldn’t have been a problem. In context, there was no sexual connotation to it, and I think the sensation-hungry media gobbled it up and blew it all out of proportion. JMHO. nuff said.
ralph…i know that.
but, as team mgrs. they could slide over during practices and provide tutelage.
who would know unless you tell on them.
gdl is in camp.
unkanesson….yup. let’s move on. poor mack, you can see that he is stumbling during interviews trying to be soooo careful in his choice of words.
RC (#66) and Ralph (#67) — Thanks. Didn’t see ST’s post last night. Hope he gets a good surgeon like Colt did.
d1…great!
let’s pretend we had another cc planned and we cxld and tossed the money into pride.’s charity run.
Good day, gang!
Have a fun afternoon!

mahalo bro for the props Big Wave….i always thought that for now, Falemalu could make an impact off of the edge, we have enough LB’s, but need help on the edge. He can bulk up a little more and he’ll fit right in. He has decent strength, but he is cat quick off the edge…..it’ll work.
nice to have a punter not a bunter….we got spoiled with McBriar back there, the 12th man on offense, whew was he deadly or was that just me? haha
GO WARRIORS

al,
Pretend?!?!

heheheh
so if BLAZE received a Medical Redshirt for last season, does that mean that he has TWO more years to play? anyone know?
Unkanesson:
Christian’s injury is to his right hip.
He’s actually in camp, but he’s not eligible to participate in drills.
Ken:
I’ve always been led to believe that Blaze’s first post-college year, when he attended HPU, does not count against his NCAA clock because he attended a non-football-playing school.
That was the loophole, I was told.
But the current compliance folks think otherwise, saying that because he was a fulltime student, it counts as a year.
I’m not sure about that. I think there hasn’t been a final ruling made.
bstunna:
daily-lyles is in camp. and, i must say, he is quite the intense guy.
much mahalos TSAI MASTER
New GA:
It might not be someone from the islands.
Mack said he’s received several inquiries nationally.
st….i thought that compliance guy left already?
letsgowarriors:
I think all medical redshirts take time.
But if a guy hasn’t used a redshirt year and he gets hurt, they just label it as a medical redshirt, since the redshirt is automatic.
Now the medical hardship for a sixth year is quite different.
In the past, it had to be a non-football-related issue. The first was several years ago when a UH player had a non-football-related illness. Also, Ian Sample received a sixth year because he took off a year to help his mother, who is suffering from MS.
from the mainland,eh?
gee, does mouse have a college degree?
Al, D1, Liz, Garrett,
Mahalo for the support…Now if a few others would chip in so we can see Pride Bolohead…
It seems UH folks are on eggshells whenever Mack does a live interview.
They should relax.
He’s a grown man, the leader of the most visible program in the state. and while he might not be the most eloquent speaker, he certainly is smart enough to get through interviews without problems.
His track record of 40 years of public speaking should mean something.
Mouse isn’t coming out of retirement.
He’s still on his honeymoon.
DrDoc and I were tagged by Jim Donovan at Murphy’s a couple of weeks ago for the cleanup – we took part in the one back in February – and urge everyone to join in. Three tasks available: power washing, landscaping, and general cleanup. We chose the last and filled up nine HUGE bags of STUFF in between Stan Sheriff Center and Murakami Stadium along the walkway which separates Ching/Cook Field and the aquatics area.
The pau hana food is incredible. For those of you who like to do good AND eat well, this is the place to be.
Look forward to seeing other folks besides the A-Houses and Slugger at the Manoa Makeover.

UH probably has been spoiled by some of the well-known GAs and student managers — Dennis McKnight, Jeff Reinebold, Mike Smith, Craig Stutzmann, Nick Rolovich, Ron Lee, Kurt Gouveia, etc.
Truth is, most GAs are former players using the position as an apprenticeship.
but mouse could get in the guiness book of records for being the eldest of grad asst.
sailorblue
i noticed that uncle tom mui and rage have also made donations.
Last year, I took a picture of a UH team participating in the cleanup.
I got scolded.
Loudly.
I figure other people can publicize the activity from now on, if they wish.
Remember Minnie Minoso?
He would get on the active roster of a baseball team once every decade to set some sort of longevity record.
I guess Mouse can make an appearance in 2010.
Sorry for the duplication of information about the August 15 Manoa Makeover project, but I didn’t see LizK’s post about it here on the blog. Oh, well, something like this cannot have too much publicity.
Called the Football Office and found out that today’s practice is on the grass field. mauka of the soccer field.
The Relay For Life that Pride & SailorBluc are promoting is a project of Kamehameha Schools Alumni Association with the event being held on the campus. Perhaps someone from the group can handle the recycling and turn the proceeds over the the ACS.
Hello, Tsaiko-Nation and Tsai-Meister.
Aah, the smell of Football in the air, the aroma is intoxicating, our Warriors look extremely promising, what more can an old geezer, like me, asked for?
ken,
I think with Blaze it depends on his progress toward his degree. With all his injuries, sofar, it would probably help his draft status to get another injury free year under his belt, but then again, grab what you can get is not always wrong either. With all his bad luck, I really whish him a great year.
Lol,
that’s why I hesitate to post. By the time my (nowadays) slow brain gets it going, eveything has moved on, oh, well, ken, lucky the info is still o.k.
Al,
My bad. Mahalo to all (especially da Tsai-kos) who have contributed to Pride’s RFL event. Hopefully the list of donors will get very long in the coming days….
SailorBlue
what’s the status of Daniel Libre? Is he still trying to get another year? Will he be another late addition like how Francis Maka was last year?
Al…Kenny Patton?
PauLunChauWah…
Back to more meetings.
Stephen,
Why is it necessary for the players to have 4 hours of Gender Equity meetings?
Is this something that is done yearly?
The information I’d want to know is that if the UH has a person that’s a media liaison.
When I looked at the picture titled “swarm” I can’t help but think that the guy with his back to the camera (blue striped shirt) has some ties with the UH (maybe an ex-linemen because he looks so big) and maybe because it looks like in the picture he’s giving instruction to the reporters and camera people..just curious. IDK, but supposedly if UH did have a media liaison I guess before every practice this person with touch bases with the media and outline what questions can be asked and what questions can’t be asked of the coaches and players. This would seem right. Would it also seem right that if UH had a media liaison person that the person would be hitched closer to the coach now? I would think so.
….I can see 2.5 hour Orientation. (Get plenny restrooms at UH…takes awhile to review every location, plus with constant construction taking place you always need to be updated)
….I definitely see 3 hours spent on dehydration as a good idea.
….but is someone expecting the players to formulate policy on G.E.?
Just wondering.
Thanks garret #57, I couldn’t find out anything on google either, was thinking he might make a good GA for the WR’s, I think he graduated.
Feature article on Adrian Klemm–today was his first day as an offensive line coach. I wish him well and hope that many more Warrior players get shots at coaching after their playing career is over.
I didn’t realize the bond between McKnight and Klemm. I also didn’t realize that the OL did their weight training with McKnight instead of within the UH weightlifting program.
Pomai,
Jason Rivers would be a good idea to be a GA. He knows the WR position in the offense and he was a great receiver and blocker.
royal crown:
Pakalani’s job was to establish the perimeter. I’m not sure why that spot was chosen.
Then Derek Inouchi brings Coach Mack over to the group, where he takes questions.
After that, Mack talks to Jason Kaneshiro.
Then he talks to me.

I always like Rivers, he was a tough receiver, wasn’t afraid to go over the middle or go long an go after the ball, knowing that he was going to get hit hard. I still remember the sugar bowl where he got laid out two or three times but still was in the game all the way. He knows the system as good as anyone.
Saw the news day about Tim Tebow and he’s now weighing 242. That makes him bigger than Greg Alexander!!! When you get size like that and he can run, plus he can throw that’s a pretty tough combination. I have to say he’s the leading candidate for the Heisman again. But, all it takes to go down is a little hit by the ankles and that’s it for the season.
He’s a good kid so good luck to him.
Looks like we have a weapon in our new punter. I hope he has some touch and putting the ball inside the 10 or even inside the 5 to keep opponents pinned down. If he can do that consistently field position can be a real positive for our team. So, now we have to hear from our place kicker which we haven’t from yet!
Another thing I would want to learn are what are the criterias to earning a varsity letter in football at the UH.
What I’m seeing is that the team has a few players (like OL Johnson) that have so much equity in the program (into his fifth year), and however with no playing time. Yet in the case of Johnson he’s a valuable member of the scout team (3yrs. straight) that as a coach you really hate to cut him, especially a player that has so much equity in the program. But at the same time, as the coach, you also know that there’s no room on your roster, as you have to make room for the newer players. So if you’re in the coaches shoes do you allow him to ride it out? I say yes…And I’m guessing, apparently this is happening, for I learned through (ST) that although he wasn’t invited to training camp he’ll being showing with the second group.
For Johnson I’d say everything is happening quickly to him, and maybe in the downhill direction, for I don’t even see his bio, pic and number on the official roster. But I’ll be quicker to add that I have admiration for him for sticking it out as long as he can. What may or may not be at stake is a cemented place on the roster or the opportunity to earn a letter but for him I’m guessing it is this last opportunity to take the field and be around his team mates.
Pomai,
I agree with everything you said in #114! The way that Rivers played was a great example of a Warrior. Whether blocking or running with the ball, Rivers never avoided contact and punished the players he was up against.
What about Maa Tanuvasa as a GA? He’s retried from football maybe he’d like to get a master’s degree?
Do we need someone to GA for receivers? Who did that during JJ’s time?
The SEC is *really* trying to limit what the media can post on their websites…I hope that Karl Benson doesn’t get any ideas. The SEC wants to keep all of the rights to highlights, interviews, press conferences, etc. for their SEC Digital Network. The media and fans cannot even post photos from games on the web?
Buffoman,
The GA could be at a different position, that is true. The problem is that Ron Lee is now the offensive coordinator, so having him be both offensive coordinator and WR coach is really stretching him thin. He needs to be up in the booth calling plays…so UH will need someone on the field coaching the WRs during games.
Nice summary of what each conference makes with TV rights and when their contracts expire. The WAC isn’t shown because the WAC apparently gets less than C-USA and MWC.
SDSU offensive lineman really beat up a safety during a team meeting, and the felony court case will bring up a lot of questions regarding how their former coach handled it. I cannot believe that SDSU’s coach did NOT discipline the player and the incident was not reported until the coach was fired.
This court case might save SDSU a lot of money…unless the player’s family sues the school.
Garret,
At this point I’d guess that one option (maybe the only one) is that Coach Ron would need to come down on the field to coach up the WR and QB’s and put Rolo upstairs. The question is whether he can do that as the Former Coach was able to?
[…] has more notes in a “Day After” post. It’s too bad cornerback Steve Christian won’t be able to play for an extended period. […]
Live from Foxboro…Jake Ingram said he’s ‘having a great time, its awesome’. Said practice is going well, they are still in the hotel during training camp but he found a nice apartment nearby. He’s looking forward to exploring Cape Cod when training is over. we invited him to come back to the cape with us but gee, for some reason, practice is more important! hahaha.
driving back now, lobster and clam rolls for dinner!
June made a good move in hiring Adrian Klemm as his O-Line Coach at SMU. He was a very good lineman and having former NFL players as coaches certainly doesn’t hurt in the recruiting process.
Richie,
My wish is that Gordy Shaw does really well, but that would mean that the BCS schools would come calling for him again. Having former Warrior players with OL coaching experience would be great if someone like Klemm wants to coach in Hawaii some time in the future.
UH has put a lot of OL in the NFL and many others have done really well at the college level. The more of them that go into coaching, the better to me!
Until Coach Gansz passed away, Klemm was planning to be a GA at SMU. Someone like that would have been a great GA candidate at UH!
Re: PRIDE
I gave – just want to see what he would look like bolohead!
Might lose a lot of strength without his hair!
d1shima,
I guess you are correct that Rolo would need to be upstairs…but isn’t it handy to have the QB coach to consult with the QBs on the field? But I guess we can’t have all the position coaches on the field, so either Rolo or Ron Lee have to be the eyes in the booth.
Minnie Minoso, one of my favorite bb players, a talented and colorful player for the White Sox
Garret,
I think Gordy Shaw will be a big help to Ron Lee and Coach Mack did a good job in picking him up. I also agree that it is nice to see former UH players getting into coaching.
With the issues that you and d1shima raise, we could sure use some help with a regular receivers coach, especially in our four receiver offense. Ron Lee received some unfair criticisms from some of our fans last year, but he was pretty thin on seasoned and experienced position coaches. Once he gets a regular receivers coach, we should be running on all cylinders again.
minnie minoso…wow.
never heard of that guy.
must have been before my time.
Thanks Al and ST for the update on GDL can’t wait to see what he can do on the field. I’m excited about this season seems like were gonna have alot of speed on the field on both sides of the ball. Is Tonga gonna get to play this season or is he gonna Redshirt then go on his mission?
tonga and wadsworth will both go on missions next year. i think the intent is to have them both play this year, thus, the reason why they are in camp now and not waiting until first day of school like the other targetted redshirts.
In truth, immediately i didn’t understand the essence. But after re-reading all at once became clear.
Review of Hawaii’s $2M trip ends
Associated Press
HONOLULU — A review of expenses rung up by the University of Hawaii when the Warriors traveled to New Orleans to play in the 2008 Sugar Bowl has ended with officials saying there is insufficient evidence the school violated the state’s ethics code.
Daniel Mollway, executive director of the state Ethics Commission, had said the panel wanted to determine if people with no official function traveled at the state’s expense to watch the Warriors play Georgia.
“The commission concluded that the Sugar Bowl presented unique circumstances for the University of Hawaii, and that organizing the trip to New Orleans for a large contingency from Hawaii under extreme time constraints was a significant undertaking for the university,” the commission said in a letter to Chancellor Virginia S. Hinshaw.
“Because the invitation to the Sugar Bowl was a ‘first’ for the university, the university did not have a written policy in place that applied specifically to a postseason football event of this magnitude, which required travel to the mainland for a great number of individuals.
“The commission found no evidence of bad faith on the part of the University of Hawaii in terms of the decisions that were made by the university concerning travel to the Sugar Bowl,” the panel said.
The commission decided to require the university to create a formal policy concerning participation in future postseason events.
The cost of sending 550 people has been estimated as high as $2 million. The university initially refused to identify 75 of them.

Basically we learn from Mollway and the State Ethics Commission is that since there wasn’t a writen policy in place at the UH at time of the Sugar Bowl game it absolved the UH of any wrong doing.
This ruling is a bunch of hogwash IMO. And it allows everyone to walk away scot free on top of the free trips they’ve received. This isn’t right. And furthermore Mollway is shrewd enough to know that if he absolves ever one else down the line it also absolves himself and his hide. This is obvious. For in a Dec. 20 2006 meeting HF and VH had a meeting with him, seeking his counsel in how state law applies to the Sugar Bowl trip. And the fact finding mission was to determine if UH was able to invite guest to the Sugar Bowl at state expense.
In the aftermath of this fiasco he knew that if he implicated anyone it would revert back to him because of this prior meeting. The UH, HF and VH, because of the meeting had a safety net. Mollway only safety net is to absolve any wrong doing so that it doesn’t revert back to him, IMO.
This, like I said, is wrong and once again it’s a shame that people can get away with this.
Royal Crown’s comments #137 shows the wastefulness of $$$ spent on the invited guests at the State’s expense. I agree that it was “wrong”.
However, without any guidelines established (written down or by custom), there could not be any finding of wrong doing from the Ethics Commission.
My standards of conduct may be a heck lower than many but my standard of conduct may be higher than some. Unless there are lines drawn somewhere (10 Commandments, Teachings of the Enlighten One, whatever) you really can’t make the determination that it was a breach of ethics.
But from my viewpoint, it was dumb, stupid, arbitrary/
UH & Sugar Bowl “guest list”:
From the time UH was selected to participate in the Sugar Bowl, who, in the Athletic Department contacted any school with experience, like Utah or Boise State, about guidelines on “travel party”. Of course, the Sugar Bowl Committee, but not be afraid to make your own decision on who shall attend. Are they going to tell the school that they will not extend an invitation if they do not follw their guidelines?
Not hind sight, but just common sense to make that connection to arrive at the final list. UH had how many on the “selection” committee to make that determination? Was it 8 or 10 or 12 individuals? Damn, it could have been a single person who had enough insight, logistical/organizational/common sense approach to reach a final list for approval.
Bottom line was who needed to be there; really, really needed to be there. Based upon this, I would have made an initially list, but would have asked the AD (oh my god, but courtesy requirement); coaching staff; upper campus; and Na Koa for their recommendations. Compile the list and present it to the collective group for their approval. Oh, for NaKoa, you are not automatically on the invite list just because you are an officer or director of the orgainzation.
Second bottom line is keeping expenses to a minimum to preserve maximum “profit”. Yea, yea, the BCS Bowl committe dictates where teams must stay, etc. and they, I hear, choose some of the most expensive hotels, etc. This is crazy because it automatically cuts into the overall payout to each team. Here we go again, the EGO of the bowl officials to say “we used so-and-so hotels” for our teams. BFD!!!
But the BOTTOM LINE is really who the participating team puts on its “offical” travel roster that is the real killer.
Maybe, UH did not break any “ethical code”, but they sure used extremely poor judgement – ah, Hermie’s actions or lack thereof still haunts the hallowed halls of Lower Campus.
I do agree with the Ethics committee on one thing and that is for UH to develop a “plan” and continuously update it for the next trip to a BCS game without creating a “committee”.
Bitch, bitch, bitch – OK Jim D, I volunteer to be your point man.
Breathe, A-House, breathe.
In. Out. In. Out.
But, I agree with everything you said! If only common sense was common; and if the previous ad had a speck of intelligence, ethics, and morals most of this would not have been.
Disgusting and sad how the commission is willing to sweep the entire episode out the door rather then address, acknowledge, and rectify the problem.

Thank you for the practice updates! albeit not able to attend the information makes seem as if I were!

Kapahaki has a nice report about today’s practice on SportsHawaii. I liked that he focused on the OL. Some tidbits:
Where did everyone go?
Dang, I took a shower and brushed my teeth.

MIT professor used to fly F/A-18 Hornet fighters for the Navy and that experience gives her great insight into her work researching better ways for humans to control robots like UAVs. I love the tidbit that the idea for controlling robots with an iPhone came from an undergraduate student because it meant that her research group would need to buy iPhones for all the students.
The first commercial hydrogen fuel cell-powered UAV was unveiled.
Process that cleans wastewater and generates electricity can also remove 90% of salt from brackish water or seawater. Current techniques to desalinate water use a lot of energy, so this process could be an important breakthrough–generating electricity while desalinating water.

June Jones tweets that he is counting the hours for SMU’s practice to begin.. “220’s tomorrow”. question? is Mac putting the warriors thru a running type conditioning program. I’ve seen a few sprints after the horn goes off but nothing cardiovascular.

Shucks, cannot even type correctly.
Good night!
I think I have pinched nerve in my neck.
probably hurt your neck watching the punter loft the ball far down field, you need exercises to increase the range of motion of your neck muscles. Watch your son play tennis, follow the ball back and forth from the net.
Practice Saturday…….
It is not nice to pick on vision challenged bald headed people……
Do they do wind sprints? Didn’t see very much in the calisthenics at the practice.
wafan – go check your email
where is everyone?? I figure the night crew should be here soon.
how come no one posted a practice report? Kapakahi’s report was based on the very end of practice, he got there late

Been reading up on Boise and Nevada football.
What standouts about Boise is when I looked at their depth chart just about every member is an underclassmen, which means come next year it’s possible that they’ll have 10-11 returning starters on both sides of the ball (gulp…). The offensive coordinator, a young guy, 32, don’t remember his name, will be entering his fourth year there. I’d bet his stock is rising.
The thing that standout about Nevada is that on offense this team is huge. QB (6’6″), WR (6’3″), TE (6’5″) and OT(6’5″-6’6″), OG(6’8″, 6’4″) C (6’4″). Note that when Nevada takes on Notre Dame on 9/5 they’ll be playing the game on a grass field, which favors this team more so than when they play on artificial surfaces.. And Nevada is 17-7 in games played on grass surfaces.Nevada, a top rushing team, maybe might give Notre Dame a tough game–similarly like how Navy did to them (another top rushing team) last year. It’ll be interesting to see the point spread on this game. I would think that the handicappers know that Nevada has quite a few pro prospects on both sides of the ball (esp. the DE).
Good morning Tsaikos!
royal crown-
I enjoy reading your posts, good stuff. I think the people in the desert have Notre Dame as 17 pt favorites. According to the Sporting News annual mag, NV had one of the worst pass defenses in the FBS last year and that’s probably why they’re not getting much respect against the Irish. We’ll see!
I agree. Dan “the beast” Johnson needs to play. He’s definitely a guy who has payed his dues on the scout team. Hope he gets his PT this season.
c_c,
Mahalo for #143! Love hearing about the speed we’ll have at the wideouts.
royal,
scary that boise and nevada are going to reload! and there coordinators are YOUNG.

Paypal takes a lot of your money. Quikbooks is what I decided on. I am able to integrate it with the free version online. Now that is just a merchant account. I use godaddy.com to set up my shopping cart feature and it is compatible with the Quikbooks merchant account. The monthly fees are low and the percentage for each transaction that Quikbooks takes is small…well worth it.
Here is Navy’s football poster for this season.
No Big East teams ranked in the top 25. That bodes well for a BCS buster again this season.
Good morning to all!
