Fleming: I’m staying
One of the biggest question marks about player movement in the transition from Benjy Taylor to Eran Ganot was freshman guard Isaac Fleming.
Once Ganot was revealed as the new UH coach last Wednesday, Fleming indicated on Twitter he was considering leaving the program. But the 1-on-1 meetings with players Ganot hosted over the last couple days seem to have made a difference.
Fleming tweeted on Monday morning: “After talking with my dad and the new coach today I have decided I will not transfer to a high major and I will stick it out with my brothers!”; “I will finish what I started we going to the big dance next year”; as well as “Ohana”.
Taylor weighed in as well, tweeting: “It’s official. Last piece of the puzzle! Good job Fleming! Good luck Bows!!! Finish this thing off! be bigger than your situation!!! 100”
Fleming, though erratic at times, is undeniably talented and has a very bright future if he can put it all together. Some of the problems he encountered accruing technical fouls during the 2014-15 season faded a bit in the later games; he’d made it a point to try to accept whistles that didn’t go his way.
The sixth man was the team’s most dynamic driver, often flummoxing opponents with his lefty takes to the hoop. The team’s fourth-leading scorer by average (9.5 ppg) shot a respectable 47.1 percent from the field. Some of his best sustained play came in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic, in which he was named to the all-tournament team. Fleming was slowed by a late-season ankle injury.
This doesn’t necessarily mean that Ganot and UH will be able to keep the entire roster intact going into next season, but it’s a big step toward it.

Please just work on your emotional expressions on court plays, to channel that energy in another way. Opponenets will use your emotions for their betterment as to getting you to retaliate. It’s the mind game, you are better than that!

Great news, now Ganot, has to bring in a few big men and a sharp shooter and this team will be complete.
Mahalo! Coach Taylor for whatever you have done with this pass season with the warriors!. I know that you will be a great head coach somewhere else. I hope that Hawaii don’t play the team that you are coaching. Because, I their will loses big time! Because no one had given you credit for what you have done just three before the season started for the University of Hawaii basketball. They have given you the word Thank you!. To me it was a finger and a embarrassment to everyone up here in the mainland for not giving him another season to show something to the fan. But we will see how the new head coach do!. The nucleus is strong but pieces are still missing. Coach Ganot needs to mold and bring in additional pieces to continue the success.

So easy, it would have been, for him to return east, and play, perhaps, for one of the schools that recruited him, mainly, the ACC’s Virginia Tech. (I think the Big Ten’s Rutgers also offered him a scholarship.)
Despite the six technicals, I keep returning to a shot captured by OC-16 cameras of Fleming and Jovanovich laughing together on the sidelines. He seems like the sort of player you love if he’s on your team, and hate if he’s not.
I thought he was a good teammate, and his decision backs up my original impression.
And yes, we will miss you, Benjy Taylor. Coach Taylor. From all of us peabrains, from the bottom of our peabrain hearts, thank you for getting the team close to the cusp of the NCAAs.

Mahalo Young Fleming for staying committed. You will never regret this move. Many lessons are being taught and each path wisdom, patience and understanding. You will strive in your new enviroment and grow as a man. If you had gone back to the East Coast, you may have fallen back into old habits and attitudes. I give you much credit and wish you well in the coming years here in Hawaii Nei.
I wonder when Coach Ganot will announce the hiring of his assistant coaches?

I hope UH can keep you on as head of basketball operations until your next head coaching job opens up. You know Hawaii, the players, the Administration, and employees. I can’t see anyone more qualified.
Flemings was the most exciting and electrifying player for the Warriors this past season. Especially when driving to the basket, his quick hands and ability to put the ball in the basket is of NBA quality or at least seldom seen at the collegiate level. That style of play is very entertaining because you are watching great talent perform.
Bows players remind me of Gary Payton with all the smack talking they do on the court. Once again, thank you for all that you have done Benjy!

I would have rather seen Coach Taylor signed because I think he would have continued to get exceptional results from this team. However, IMO the next best thing is for the team to stay together so that fans can better assess the wisdom of UH’s decision not to retain Coach Taylor. While life is too short to survive on “I told you so”s, they don’t make a bad dessert every now and again. And if UH made the right choice, a meal of crow would go just fine with a 22+ win season. Coach Ganot will then have done a great job with the great situation that Coach Taylor provided.

Someone here has an anger issue with people that have opinions that differ from his. Grow up , embrace maturity as Fleming has.
#21 … meaning I would eat crow because I favored keeping Coach Taylor. Sorry for my oblique sentence structure. In simple terms, I support the team and new coach, and want to see lots of wins. But that doesn’t mean I have to forget that I really enjoyed watching the 2013-2014 team.

Well, mark this is Ganot’s 1st victory as UH MBB head coach.
Hopefully Ganot will continue the aggressive defensive approach Benjy had, but hopefully a better executed half court offense.
Another thing that would really help UH this coming season is if somebody will establish them self as the #1 scoring option. I thought one weakness on last year’s squad was a lack of go-to scorer when the pressure was on. UH has lots of guys that can put up 20 on any given night, but there was no consistency on who that was on any given night.
