Satele led support group
in a show of support — and leadership — middle linebacker Brashton Satele organized his teammates’ turnout for the news conference to announce the sanctions against coach Greg McMackin.
Satele arranged it so the players would line up alongside McMackin’s path leading to the Stan Sheriff Center.
* * * * *
McMackin’s penalty will total $162,250.

first and foremost lol
tsaikos at today’s cc wanted to know the upcoming practice schedule
Wow. It’s no small penalty, but Mack’s mistake wasn’t small either.
The good news, as I’d hoped, the university rallied around Coach Mack in their own way by very, very quickly deciding how to deal with the situation. It’s a credit to JD and the chancellor for taking action like this. As long as Coach Mack doesn’t do anything like this ever again (I guess “sensitivity classes” couldn’t hurt), and proves his remorsefulness, I think his head coaching career remains safe.
I’m pretty sure most if not all of his players are solidly behind him and know he shouldn’t be defined by his remark, which is hugely important for this coming season.
remember the predecessors, Denise Konan and HF, they did not act quickly and sternly with E Bolla and look at what happened. We had to pay off E Bolla and HF, and now there is litigation pending with E Bolla. Many may agree that the penalty doesn’t fit the crime but its over and resolved-moving on to a successful football season and a lesson is learned.
Its time we end the PR baloney and tell the truth. I don’t care if your gay, white, black, disabled, fat, skinny, tan, albino, or own any other point of interest to split you apart from the general population; to pretend that you’re holy and pure and McMac is this tarnished, vulgar gay-hater is complete crap. Everyone, has either heard someone tell a joke that mentioned religion, race, color, nationality etc in a not so nice way, or told the joke or comment. You ignore it and move on. To now look down on the coach as if he is different from the rest of us, is more disgusting than any nasty label. Example: If a guy or lady uses the N, or B, word, or makes any remark about non-white cultures, he or she is done. As part of my job I do exams on NFL combine athletes. Being in that world, not a minute goes by that I don’t hear comments like those mentioned, in jest, from white or black ball players, coaches, team presidents, reporters, and hanger-rounders. No one means anything unkind, its part of joking around or “tough guy talk”. Last year a mother heard her hs football playing son call a little brother a “pussy,” she asked him where he got the word, the kid said “coach calls us “pussies” if we complain”. The coach was then suspended for 4 games and forced to apologize to the school. You find me one coach in all of America who hasn’t used such a title and I’ll give you a months salary. I recall a few days after the Prop 8 Calif vote seeing a gay group holding a sign with a pretty vulgar depiction of Mormons, in addition to FU chants, never heard anyone complain or criticize about what was heard and seen.
I’m white and I’ve never been able to tan, in athletic circles, 10 minutes can’t go by without someone calling me Dr. Casper, or The Albino Dude. I have never sued anyone for such titles or reported such conduct to the “proper” authorities. Its part of life, maybe not pleasant, but still part. If we want to avoid hypocrisy, should not everyone in that hotel room who laughed their guts out also be given the same “discipline for show”?
Warning: Long post ahead. Skip if you don’t want to read it all.
While many of us (including myself) are supportive of Coach Mac, free speech rights apply not only to Coach Mac, but to everyone else, including the opposition groups and the media.
We simply don’t suspend the rights of others because we don’t agree with them. We don’t like some of the things being said by Coach Mac’s opposition, but I won’t stop them from saying what they want to say. They have a right to oppose/protest his remarks within legal reason, and I’ll try to respect it.
Coach Mac can say what he wants to say…..it’s all part of free speech…..but free speech DOES NOT mean that everyone has to take what he said the same way he (and others) did. So yes, while Coach Mac did have the right to say said remarks, the opposition and the media also had the right to oppose the remarks and/or run the story if they wanted to (and so did).
I’m not one of those people who tries to silence the opposition, although I get the notion that some folks want to do that. You can either embrace the opposition’s message, try to reason with them/bargain, or ignore ’em. Silencing them isn’t an option.
That said, having the right to say something and whether it’s prudent to say it IS NOT MUTUAL. Did Coach Mac have a right to say what he said? Yes. Should he have said what he said when he said it? No, not really.
Sorry for the long-winded post. I’m not trying to play devil’s advocate here, but people/groups do have rights as well, even if we don’t like their message. There’s a time and place to say what you want to say, he just happened to choose the wrong place and time, and the wrath of people offended by it was enough to warrant said penalties.
Off to bed. See you all later.
I standby coach Mac…his apologies were genuine…I don’t care how old you are, you still can learn from your mistakes.
This is just wrong; Coach Mac didn’t need to be humiliated on the national scene. Come back stronger Coach Mac!
Wie at +2 after 6, 10 strokes off the pace.
good to see satele step up.
good to hear the stuff coming from the current players.
it’ll be even better if this thing just fades into the sunset. perhaps, this may be a blessing in disguise. perhaps this incident shall be the rallying point with which the warriors come together and put up a momumental season.
i am ready to move on…
…nuff said.
hi ralph.
how was the food at kum chee?
…
wie needs go find a new coach to refine her game. read the greens. develop and teach her how to reach the unreachable star.
I’m shocked that no one has mentioned the sickening self serving way this was handled. The school can play the “we are so holy” game without making any sacrifices. Anyone ever heard of a non-suspension suspension? The coach still works, his salary just goes to someone else, that’s not a suspension. Had the remark been made in March, would they have really suspended Coach Mac?
Coach Mac violated University policies. Thats his crime. He said a word that violates University policy. I’d like to know if that word is specifically listed as saying it would lead to a violation? There is so much slang and ever-changing lingo out there, how is one to know ? Who ever thought in a million years that the word “bomb” would mean cool. Use that casually in a conversation trying to be hip at the airport and see what happens. Is it spelled out specifically in a coach’s contract all the words that are offensive and all the groups that may be offended? What about the words “queen” and “queer” ? Equally as offensive ? Isnt it true that gay people use all these terms frequently themselves? How would a church-going middle-aged,un-hip person know the difference? And if this church-going person’s religion doesnt acknowledge homosexuality? These issues must be spelled out specificaly in University policy. Then, when a person accepts and agrees to all these policys, violates one ,then he should be punished.Sure, ignorance isnt an excuse, but homosexuality isnt universally accepted. Anyone that knows football, knows how coaches can get all fired up.We all have seen footage of Vince Lombardi, bear Bryant, etc, etc, these guys were’nt the most politically correct of fellows…not that there’s anything wrong with that……
I agree how Mac is being dealt with is not fair. I think the institution should do a better job of not just throwing him under the bus. The guy has been astute in working with the community. The guy is a mobilizer! Even now look at the support his players are giving him.
Fair minded people know that it takes a bigger man to own up to his mistake. I appreciate that in any leader, and quite honestly, the examples we have are too far and in between. I always appreciated it when my parents would say I’m sorry when they were wrong. I appreciate it even more with Mac.
Wholeheartedly agree with 5, 6, 14…any of those points could have been how UH could have taken it. I hope Mac and team does go out fired up!
Cut the crap people, it was a FREUDIAN SLIP. Let’s not blow this out of proportion… The WAC Football Media Preview is just a really bad place to have one… so with that in mind, yes – the “punishment” does fit the crime. Now, let’s move on…

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Honestly, what coach mack said, WAS it that BAD?!?!?! PPLLLEEAASSEEE!!!! Pretty Please!!! SOMEONE, ANYONE!……….. Who “PLAYED” the Game, PLEASE,PLEASE!, EDUCATE Me On My IGNORANCE………..4 REAL!!!
NFL doesn’t even fine players or coaches to that degree. Even if Mack was going to give voluntarily a part of his salary to say that it is his penalty is not fair. I just don’t see the support from the school. You don’t kick a man when he’s down.
Tae Bo Johnson says:
The school and the Chancellor handled this rightfully. And I can’t see why people are bemoaning of why or to what extent Coach Mack was punished.
With so much of the nation watching of what move the UH would make in the wake of Coach Mack’s ill advised message a passe punishment would convey the wrong message.
And conversely a stern punishment does some self preservation to the school’s reputation.
And that’s what the Chancellor did. She did textbook.
And in all honestly I think Coach Mack would have no qualms over the punishment.
With so much revenue generated by the football team, some of which come from advertising dollars and some from the demographics of the population that Coach Mack offended it behooves the school to look first at regaining it’s reputation–a stern, harsh penalty that Coach Mack received does.
Just to weigh in. Let me also point out for those of you who feel this is no big deal, that Coach Mack himself thinks this is a big deal. As one reporter mentioned, he’s not treating this as some big “what’s the big deal” joke like so many other coaches might. He’s taking it seriously and if you read today’s news stories, it’s interesting that the LGBT groups and the team seem to feel things have been done the right way. I think that is an indication that the UH is on the right track here.
To me the only offense he made was that he tried to be funny when he clearly is not the type to be so. You always get into trouble in those situations when making a speech. He has been demonized for what. By a word. If we were all judged to that standard everyone would have to pay a much bigger fine. Sorry I don’t see the aloha here.
Where is the ACLU? This whole thing is ridiculous, don’t throw rocks if you live in a glass house. Coach Mack will move on, and so will I. The season starts now, go get’um coach.
…..pretty harsh for a first offense. I;m sure the policy reads something like “saying offensive and homophobic words are in violation of policy”… but does it specifically say what those words are? Wouldnt it have been fair in that case for a stern warning? “coach Mac,we deem that word homophobic and u are in violation of our policy u are hereby warned”. or something like that. What if he said the word “mahu” ? Is that word on the banned list? Is Mahu equally offensive? How would one know unless specifically told? would just a warning and an apology not been enough though, for those self=rightous people that love to kick a man when he’s down? But was it right to just crucify coach Mac like that?He didnt punch a player or throw a chair.! I mean ,have u ever seen anyone more remorseful? That was the most sincere, emotional apology i have ever seen. i think once Mac said the word he knew he stepped in it and just couldnt get out. Mike and Mike(espn) never mentioned the incident at all. All anouncer’s greatest fear is to inadvertantly drop the “F”-bomb(the other “F”-Bomb) on live tv. Thank you.
stop the whining from both sides, it’s over
as Rodney King said “Why can’t we all just get along”?
btw The National K Call is at HOOTERS Casino & Hotel
(the old San Remo)
Decision was not lightly reached, it took many intense hours of
checking and rechecking of the staff at Hooters.
I can proudly say that I can recognize Jazmin, Tiffany, Jenny,
Britney Y, Britney T, Candy and Shakeesha without looking up at all.
Please RSVP at Tsaikolv@yahoo.com ASAP
Those going to a show are welcome to attend as we have the room to approx 11 pm.
Great job by Brashton in organizing the players to support Mac at the press conference. It is my hope that the leadership and support shown during this period brings the team together even closer than they already were.
I hope that the Warrior players rally around Coach Mac and show their support for him where it really can make a difference for him–on the field in every practice and game.
Article about the Canadian football team that participated in the King Kamehameha Classic.
Completely agree with post 11…this could bring the team together. I would like to say now we can move on and this will be all behind us once the season starts, but you know, there are going to be some opposing team’s fans that will use this as a taunting tool. Although they shouldn’t, I guarantee they will. One more catalyst to make the team go out there and prove themselves.
As for the slur itself, I am with the majority here. It was a slip of the tongue, get over it! This country really needs to get a grip on what is “offensive”. Being politically correct has gone WAY too far and I am getting really tired of all the whiners out there. Get over yourselves and quit perpetuating the whole thing by calling everyone on everything ever said!!!
Unfortunately, Coach Mac will also lose additional income since this will put his show on Fox Sports in jeopardy.
I’m glad UH acted fast on this and I can understand their reasons, but this punishment is too much. He is an incredibly decent man and the press conference showed his remorse unlike other coaches/players who make mistakes and read from PR scripts. We’re with you Coach!!!
nothing against Mac but we should have let him go. There is no way this coach warrants $1 million a year. crazy!
DrDoc and I are coordinating a HI-5 SaveOurSchools Redemption Drive at Makiki District Park this morning from 9 am to 12 noon. All proceeds will be split equally between McKinley and Kaimuki High Schools’ Athletic Departments to help underwrite the costs of transporting teams to games & tournaments.
If you live in urban Honolulu and have some HI-5 cans & bottles to donate, please drop them off. We’ll also have a special collection jar for folks who want to donate money directly.
Hope to see some of you there.
BTW – we’re doing something for Kailua, Kalaheo and Castle High Schools in late October – and will be working with community leaders all across O`ahu. Our goal is to raise money for all 22 public high schools by the end of 2009. Will post schedules here as they are confirmed.
Don’t forget that the beneficiaries of the T-Gate HI-5 Drives this year are PIAA, the Dave Shoji $100,000 Scholarship Drive, and the after-school cross-country program at Dole Middle School.
Great Morning All!
Let’s look forward now to the upcoming season and the challenges ahead.
Challenge #1 getting everything working right for camp.
Always important to avoid distractions: stuff like QB controversies; people not showing up/leaving camp; bickering; etc….
No need add to it with outside groups protesting at the practice fields. So in that sense, maybe the severity of the consequences are a good thing.
Ackchally killing two birds with one mortar round: the ones offended by the comment and those looking for the State’s highest paid public employee to take a pay reduction.
Well erryboddy pau “snap”, time fo’ “clear”. 😉
las vegas,
ROTFLMAO
That’s NOT the kind of sensitivity training that anyone is thinking of in Manoa these days!
Coach Mac having to work with the community he offended is a good start towart healing and learning,
Yikes!!!, for me if I was docked the amount of monies that coach Mac will be penalized, I think I would have to declare Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Can President Obama hold another beer sit-down?? with all parties involved???…maybe wait till Octoberfest????
Why do I have a hunch our Warriors will come out like gang busters as a result of this bad situation??? hmmmmm??
Is that pro football team in Washington D.C. still called the REDSKINS ? And everyone ,including sportswriters,UH policy makers, and the President himself, call them REDSKINS ?
Morning gang.
35 days ’till KICKOFF!
Rik Um, Rak Um, Ruck Um, get that ball and really Fight, Fight, Fight!
Howdy McTruck
This whole brouhaha was way over the top, unfortunately, UH and for that matter, Coach Mack, didn’t have much choice, other than to react swift and strong.
Fortunately, that’s exactly what they have done and in the process took most of the wind out of the sails of the national and hypocritical media.
I can almost guaranty that even the reporters who laughed out loud at Macks discription wrote disparaging stories. That’s the world we live in, where morals and integrity are subject to fluidity, to be dusted off, when it suits ones purpose.
Homosexuals and lesbians should be afforded the same consideration as any other handicapped segment of society, it is not their fault that their brains are wired wrong, but why do we have to accept it as an “alternative” life style and be “proud” of it?
And please, nobody use any stupid comparison of what happened to African Americans, that can not be compared.
What happened to handicapped people and how we accomodate them today is a much better example.
Aloha Kakahiaka kakou!
UH administrators hopefully preempted any fines/suspensions that the WAC might level against Coach Mack. I’m sure the Coach will be very careful about his language in the future. Time to move on and become better people.
GO WARRIORS!!!
Esme & out….
Ok, Ok. Coach made a mistake, he apologized, and paid the price. Are all of the PC Nazis and Girliemen/Mahu groups happy?
Enough of this bullsh#$@ and get on to more important things like fall camp and the upcoming season.
Are not the coaches members of HGEA? Just wondering if HGEA was involved in the discussions of settlement sanctions, and “suppporting” their member. Did they have a representative at the news conference yesterday?
It’s good to witness and feel the love within the Warriors’ community – players, families, coaches.
GO Warriors!!!
It is heartening to read that at least 2 of the 2010 recruits still stand behind Coach Mack and hope that the others will do the same.
Like someone stated, the news media continually used the same word in press releases and on TV, but no one has challenged their use of the word. Guess our society only punishes the orignator and not the follow ups. Thus, I must conclude that it is politically correct to continue to use words AFTER someone else has an utterance of same.
In the Army, it was interesting to hear blacks use the “n” word within their circle, but took a very nasty turn when others used it. How you figga?
It would really be a shame if the WAC adds punishment to Coach Mack. Then, I must conclude that anything to do with UH athletics is at the bottom on Benson’s list of “just screw them”!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great Saturday, everyone!
Could have been worse.
Go get ’em, Warriors!
Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂
I stand with Coach Mac and the team.
It’s a great show of leadership, what Satele did.
There have been some excellent posts made here, but it’s time to move on. The sooner we put this behind us, the sooner it will disappear.
I respect Coach Mac more than ever, I must say.
GO WARRIORS!!!
The good news… Satele taking a leadership role and bringing the team together . Amidst the turmoil, leaders will be born. This team needs its leaders to step up early in practice and take charge of their groups.
When does practice start… ? Tuesday? Is that when they all get stuffed into one of the dance halls for a week?
Thursday
…stuffing starts earlier in the week.
morning tsaiko country hope all is well with you. warrior football is in the air and by now you should be feeling it or getting at least getting excited. first time to see the 09 warriors is next thursday but expect by sat they will be padded up and showing some stuffs. don’t miss any of the hoopla.

Howzit Everybody,
I still have to say this whole situation is a bunch of bulls**t. The way McMackin was made an example of was just wrong and I feel totally bad for him. When we first met the man at the first spring game two years ago, he was such a nice, welcoming coach. He thanked us at every turn and he also made it a point to stop and talk to each group that was in the room that day. I know that something needed to be done and done quickly, but I am one to say that the way Coach was treated was not right and if he decided to leave right now I would not blame him. JD and Hinshaw are also very nice people and only look out for the better of the U.H. but I feel that the punishment does not fit the crime.
I say this because, Coach was just joking when he said what he said. There was no intent demean anybody. I feel that Coach Mac was not treated fairly and demanded much more respect than he got from the school.
To the gay and lesbian community,
They ask us to condone what they do and to accept them. Well that will never happen because it is just not right. To push there agenda on everyone is also wrong. To ask Coach to pay there organizations for what he had done is just blackmail. I think that these people just need to get over themselves and just accept the apology like everyone else. What was said is said and it is done with. GET OVER IT.
Couldn’t Mac just sit down with the Gay and Lesbian groups and have beers instead? It’s a teachable moment.
nani,
Maybe, but no dancing.
d1, such a quick clever and entertaining wit you have… 😆
I think that from now on, when its time for a beer, I’ll start calling it a teachable moment. If nothing else, it teaches us how good beer is. BEER- MMMMmmmmMMMM…
It’s a word, rap singer’s use it. Mac also uses the word Mothers a lot, what’s next Mothers being offended.
Let it go, it’s just a word.
Go Mack, Go Bows !!!
DPK,
Beer is good this weekend. Got all the ’08 FB recap stuff on TV.
Kinda like a football camp for fans
Someone pass along the info to Mary Vorsino that Aaron Kia is not a running back and Jayson Rego is not an offensive lineman… 🙄
Also, anyone get the feeling that Jo-Ann Adams is far more interested in dragging this crap on longer than necessary??? So she wants to see what Coach Mack will do after 30 days huh? 🙄 ***** please!
Oh and ever since when did Ms. Jo-Ann Adams become an open advocate for the “closet UH athlete” when it wasn’t so fashionable to be one sans controversy?
did anyone ever look at the MetroMix section?
There’s two guys with a podcast called “twobeerqueers” at http://www.twobeerqueers.com. They have been profiled in TGIF and other sections of this site and in the print edition. They intro the “20 things to do over the weekend stuff”
Its funny stuff and very informative…but is the name considered offensive?
I believe those are the guys that did that mock site freakcrazy.com during last season. Have them hold the summit.
DPK, I hear you. Before all this crap, I don’t think I thought I could have respected Coach Mack any more than I already did, but I do now.
Yesterday, the man showed how to be a leader during difficult times and it’s rubbing off to his players.
It could very well be a blessing in disguise and this incident could be what brings this team truly together for the upcoming season.
Earlier in the week, Coach Mack expressed what the Advertiser called “cautious optimism” and Coach said that “we need to come together as a team”…
I think our Warriors have. 😎
Jo-Ann Adams,
You still reak of your own crap in which you apparently think smells of roses.
To play devil’s advocate here, Coach Mack is in a position of high visibility and many resent him for being the highest paid employee in the state for a “jock” job that’s there to the detriment of “academics.”
That last half is completely uninformed bogus nonsense, of course, anyone who doesn’t know Coach Mack’s commitment to education and the university at large will never figure it out.
But the visibility part and getting the big bucks…that’ll lead to being held to a higher standard. Slip-ups get amplified, multiple slip-ups, moreso. It could have been worse, it wasn’t.
I just got one more word to say for now: Onipa’a!
Just wanna give a shout out and wish good luck to BigHiloFan2 and his gangeez at the state canoe paddling championships today over in Hilo today!
GO GET UM BRADDAH!!! WE’LL SEE YOU BACK HERE AFTER THIS WEEKEND! IMUA!
too many todays above. oops!
BowsForever ~ Rajah Dat #61 – to go along with…
One other thing. Whatever the cause, I hate agendas in general. So if there’s gonna be a “teachable moment” here, it shouldn’t be for the benefit of just one group. Coach Mack should become the tireless UH spokesperson for tolerance and respect for all.
It doesn’t sound like Colt or Chase Daniel got many reps today…why is Collins getting a ton of reps if Colt is the one who is supposed to need more work? If Zorn decides to keep giving Collins many times more reps than Colt, that would indicate that Collins has the #2 spot.
Interesting to hear what feedback Colt got from the Redskins coaches after completing 90% of his passes in a preseason game.
The Washington Examiner reports that Colt has improved from last year.
Pat Hill is looking to schedule games with San Diego State. That makes sense to me–winnable games vs. the MWC and they could bus to the game instead of fly to save money.
I think it would be good for UH if Fresno State still hasn’t settled on one QB by the time they meet this season.
The controversy is over, it should be all pau.
Let’s get back to football as of right now,
Straight, gay, or lesbian it’s time to give it a rest,
Imua Coach Mac, Imua Warriors,
You guys are da best!
I wonder if Alabama will get into trouble with the NCAA after these details came out during the trial. It sounds like they tried to protect Alabama…but if investigators really look hard into this issue they could find that somebody with Alabama knew. After all, how can the parent of a player spend $257,000 and nobody notice anything?
I wonder what the ND dance was like?
Did they wear blue and gold miniskirts with highheels ala Rupaul?
Over over the top like Frank Delima’s Mary Tunta?
Maybe the ND players wore black riding leather like from the Blue Oyster scene in Police Academy.
Just wondering……..
such attention to detail, las vegas… no wonder you can tell who the different hooter girls are wifout looking all the way up. 😆
Try look at the local tv stations’ news websites. I think they might have a clip of the “dance”.
Hey DPK,
I can tell them apart by how much the OO stretches
That takes talent.
I prefer to use my imagination for the ND dance, maybe pink “hula skirts”
like the girls from the Brady Bunch wore in Waikiki?
You know too much, vegas, too much! LMAO!
Flip Wilson’s Geraldine?
Uncle Milty?
Bosom Buddies?
That movie with Dustin Hoffman?
Just wondering………
Leprechaun in a tophat, green coat and a garter belt?
I’m intensely curious about this…er…little dainty dance the Notre Dame football team does.
I have a little different take from a few of the other comments. While I support Coach Mack as our coach, the bottom line is Mack really messed up and he could have given a sincere and genuine apology, and took his medicine, without completely breaking down and bawling at the press conference. I don’t mean to be insensitive, but that was a little too much for me. I wonder what the assistants and some of the other players really think about how Coach Mack handled this whole thing.
On a more important note, did you publish the August practice schedule yet? If I missed it, would you mind publishing it again?
Mahalo
Las Vegas:
got your email today.
The Notre Dame “dance” was more like a clapping cheer with some players standing, chanting something, and clapping their hands.
It was wooooooopppppppssy, IMHO.
Bowforever,
I think it goes like this,
(Lyrics
ONE! Singular sensation
Every little step he takes
One thrilling combination
Every move that he makes.
(Dance)
Step, step twirl, step step, bow , twirl, steppity(wave cane) step step, lean back, step and shake your junk, step, twirl, curtesy, step step step.
Now see, why didn’t he use “wooooooopppppppssy”?
Mr. A-house
Oh………………
So, should I make sure we have “Sound Off” in the karaoke?
In my opinion, there seems to be many persons of the wooooooopppppppssy gender on Queen Street at night.
This just in,
The Wooooooopppppppssy Anti Defamation leauge intends to boycott
A-House for his unauthorized use of the groups name.
They insist on A-House’s apology and him making himself available for a limp wristed slapfest with Maryann(e)
Aloha kākou,
How else could you describe the way the Notre Dame guys was doing the haka, it was awkward? a turkey dance? He came up with faggot, so what? He didnʻt mean they were homosexual, he just was making fun of their unintimidating dance. And just making a joke. Jeeze!
I call my brother a fag once a week. He is not a homosexual. He cannot drive the ball very far, he can only jump three inches off the ground, so I call him a fag. It does not mean Iʻm calling him a homosexual.
In fact, I support the gays. Gay marriage, what ever. I bet Mcmackin probably supports them too. He was just making a joke. For crying out loud!
kden, peace out.
Can’t jump three inches off the ground?
Ha ha What a F……….wait I can’t jump two inches off the ground myself.
Does that make me one too?
Feel… like …… cheering..for…the …gol…den domers and wearing mascara.
I would like to apologize to all the alternate lifestyle
people out there in regards to my earlier comments.
I have many friends who chose that road in life.
Friends like Lance Tsujimata, no worry brah, your secret is safe with me
What we do for our pets.
My pal Craig is big, fat and rather ugly in a mid-western way.
His only hope in meeting the fairer sex lay in his bright yellow Z-06 Corvette and giving free ride to the ladies.
Craig also owns a cat, lately the cat started bleeding from his nose several times a day.
After extensive X-rays, cat-scans (really) and blood tests, poor ol’ cat was found to have a tumor behind his eye.
Only way to save him was radiation treatment and chemo a a hospital in San Diego.
Cost? Between $6000. to $9000.
Next day he was at CarMax selling his Z-06 to pay the kitties bills.
I kind of like him better now.
You should write a story ’bout that one, vegas. Truly touching. I’m serious.
Richie,
Are you serious? I was over for this thing but I don’t know what the hell you are thinking. The man has given a sincere apology to everyone. What the hell is your problem. I’m sorry for going off but this kind of crap has no place here. To say that Coach Mac was not sincere and genuine in his apology is just BULLS**T. To say that him breaking down and balling was a little bit to much, try and put yourself in his shoes. He is a very sincere person that only wants the best for his players, the school, and the people of Hawaii and you come on here and say this kind of stuff, that is just a bunch of CRAP. You say you back Mac, I don’t think so with these comments. Yes we all know that he made a mistake. It has been stated many a times but to say that he was not sincere and genuine is CRAP. To say that he should take a bit of his own medicine you are talking out your A**. Once again I am sorry to all the people that have to read this besides Richie but you my friend need to know the person before you start talking out you A** like that.
Sorry again but Richie just got me going,
Another thing that has really pissed me off is the people that are calling for Mac’s head. Give me a break. I guess we would have to call for these peoples job also cause these people who are calling for the Coaches head probably have done much worse things and they just walk away. So what makes these people any better than what Mac. Well in my opinion there not so, they should just shut there mouth and get a life.
Much Aloha to the McMackin Ohana on this beautiful Saturday afternoon. May peace and tranquility return to their humble hale.
We as Tsai-ko’s should gather together in a show of support and attend Mrs. McMackin’s class. We should encorage our friends, family and business places we visit to also show their support.
Go Warriors!
DPK,
It depends on how the story pans out, Fatboy and I are driving out to SD later this week to pick up Kitty.
Hopefully he (and the cat) will have gotten good news by then as Kittie has been in SD for a month already.
Da psycho hetero men are so cute…and so gutsy too to battle for coach…I bet day be willing to rep dere company at one industry conference and call da competition’s product one phaggot product widout fear of consequences. Hey just do it yeah? F da pc police lol. Oh you mean you no like chanceum lol. Dat you’d get fired guaranz? Wait now…coach still get one job? Loll!

Does an apology need a lie-detector test as well? Give me a break – his apology was sincere and anyone that reads body language would know that.
Apologies to anyone I offended in my post #6. I do agree with others, Coach Mac’s apology was sincere, VERY sincere I might add.
It’s unfortunate that UH had to cave in to political and national pressure in doling out it’s penalty, but imagine the ire that could have taken hold had they done nothing/dragged it out/given him a proverbial slap on the wrist. The degree of negative press until now might feel bad, but it could be a whole lot worse if they hadn’t acted swiftly. It also looks like Coach Mac is accepting of the penalties imposed on him, so it’s not like he’ll be trying to grieve the penalty through UH and/or HGEA channels.
I think EVERYONE can learn from this experience. I’m all for helping the LGBT community gain equal acceptance in society but the blackmail/extortion angle “Give us $10k or else…” is not something I’m fond of. I don’t personally think of an LGBT person any different than the average citizen, but there are many out there that continue to hold them to inferior status.
In the end, words may hurt, but words also heal.
So what’s the schedule for August???? Want to show support for Coach then all of the TSAIKOS and friends show up for the first days practice.
#92
I do not doubt Coach Mack was being sincere with his apologies and I have no doubts that he is a decent guy. However, he said what he said and it was time for him to take his medicine like a grown man. What I do not get is the uncontrollable crying. He made some unacceptable comments and, as the leader of the program, especially in front of his players and any assistants if they showed up, he certainly should have gathered himself and acted a little more composed.
ST, has the schedule been released for the fall practice yet.
oh maryanne…dat so funny, but i no keah wat you say on one blog and your boss no keah either, lol!
Aloha Pomai,
Where are you now? Are you back on the rock?
In an earlier post I read that coach is a real descent man.
In this kind of PC enviornment the descent guys who own up to mistakes are probably the only ones to be punished. The guys who hide behind spin never pay.
Look, nobody is pure. Coach Mac made a mistake. He owned up to it and said he was sorry, many times over. Enough already. The discipline was too excessive to me, but Coach Mac accepted it so if it’s okay w/ him, I’m fine with it too. Nobody feels more terrible than him. A lot of people, including me, feel for him. Some people want to take him to the shed. When somebody makes a mistake, you ask yourself, is it intentional and/or malicious? I feel we should forgive him for this untimely happening and have some compassion for the man and move on to more important things ahead. In the grand things of life, this is nothing. Get over it. My goodness.
get a straw, suck it up and move on. one snap and clear…. let’s focus on things to happen instead of what happened. it’s over, corrective action taken also WAC Sanctions forthcoming, nuf already.
focus on the team and the task at hand, Warriors have to get busy and get ready.
ONE SNAP AND CLEAR
An open note to Coach Mac…Coach, although this controversy had been blown to disportionate levels, there are many, many people who still believe in who you are. Those who have met you know that it was a faux pas on your part, you manned up and took your punishment, IT’S OVER, you don’t have to keep apologizing, those who know you, know that all you did to remedy this situation, know that you are sincere. Stay strong in your person, God bless you and your ohana.
GO WARRIORS!!!!
Hmmm – what I find interesting is that a Las Vegas event is being planned by a group of UH fans at a restaurant that exploits their female employees and practices overt discrimination. Does the company ever hire men as waiters? Or middle-aged overweight gay or straight women?
As a gay man, I would like to say that I fully support Coach McMackin, and his genuine apology for what he knows was a serious mistake. I don’t think the gay community thinks that he is a bigot or homophobic, but rather upset that he used a slur that is associated with hate. Trust when I say, the gay community does not use this word as loosely as everyone thinks. You may think that words are just words, but when you’re being brutally beaten by a group, the only reason being because you are a “f—–“, it has a different affect. Coach McMackin didn’t use this word in that context, nevertheless it was meant to insult another group. I know that all of these slurs and slang terms to describe groups of people are constantly used when we think no one is listening, but it doesn’t make it right.
If you think the media blew this out of proportion, you are wrong. The media is aware of the changes and progression in society.
BTW, please research the topic “freedom of speech” before you refer to it. You may be surprised that it is not what you think it is, and it also does not cover racial, hateful, or slander words.

Las Vegas…. Thank you for your apology, although you did nothing wrong but express your views and humor =). It is greatly appreciated that if a person thinks about the GLBT community and how they may be offending someone. Very respectful.
madeinhawaii, back for good, got in last thursday, good to be home.
Good evening, all!
Pomai, nice to have you back. 🙂
Here’s some Colt and Chase (Daniels) news. Most of it has been has been brought up earlier…some not.

I look forward to Colt having a good pre-season. Geevum Colt.
aloha, Pomai – good to hear you are back after settling all your things in WV.
look forward to seeing you again at many Tsaiko functions.
are there any Hawaiian Air stewardess reading this blog? could make it an interesting gathering for those attending the UNLV game, seeing Las Vegas being chased around Hooters by a group of Na Wahines.

Yes. I’m a LizKauai and Garret wannabe. Ha-ha. Have a nice weekend everyone. Howzit A-House.
las vegas,
Wow. You sure live dangerously. I’m banning you from Hooters for 30 minutes. Ha-ha.
By the way, how far away is Hooters from the California Hotel? Is it walking distance?
I don’t think there has ever been a #3 QB in the NFL that has gotten this much luv.
Whaddya think, vet FB fans?
Looks like David Veikune is practicing solely at inside LB for now.
Curt,
Great job with the Colt articles!
When it comes to Colt, I’m just a wannabe compared to Liz. Liz even reads and posts to the Washington forums about Colt…
Howzit LizKauai. It sure seems Colt does get a whole lotta luv goin’ on. I really want to see him do well and make Ron Jaworski eat his words about Colt.

Liz,
I cannot remember a #3 QB ever receiving this much press…but part of that could be because we’re able to follow things much easier now via the Internet. For example, Chase Daniel is getting a lot of press right now (including many articles just about him and not including Colt) in Missouri and Texas because of his popularity in those areas.
Thanks Garret. But u da man when it comes to interesting info. Sometimes I wonder where you find all this stuff.
You’re right about LizKauai; I’ve seen some of her posts myself. She must be Colt’s #1 fan.
Curt,
Thank you for the kind words. Google, Google Reader, and speed reading really lets me read a lot of stuff…and I try to post stuff that I think might be of interest to others. I’ve gotten feedback from a lot of people both on the blog and via e-mail that helps shape what type of things that I post.
A certain subject over the past few days has resulted in my actually avoiding posting articles on that subject about the Warriors because I think the local papers are covering that topic enough and posting 100+ other articles would just be overkill. I still cannot believe that a news service in Pakistan covered the controversy…
Wow…Pakistan. I’m suprised they would cover something like this.
Hiya Curt:
Can take the bus, believe #1 or #3, from the downtown depot and get off near NYNY or Excalibur. $2 or $3 one way.
Hooters is just past the Tropicana – same side of street. We will be at the Golden Nugget and may take the bus from the bus stop at the east end of the Fremont Experience.
Hiya, back from my fb scrabble games. (Gotta keep up with Cindy/Cenn!)
A-House #139:
Is the CAT up to $2 or $3? I recall taking it from the downtown depot to the ’07 UH-UNLV game (and having to walk the last mile) and it was only $1.25.
Suprising how times (and prices) change.
I stand by my words, every time I fly HA I sit in the aisle.
I don’t know which is more irritating, being hit by the beverage/food carts
or getting slammed by the flight attendant’s large & rock hard okole’s as
they walk past.
These ladies have desensitized posteriors from the constant contact with customers shoulders and the heads of the lolo’s who sleep halfway in the aisle.
If the LV monorail is running, Hooters (formerly San Remo) is directly across the street from the main entrance/lobby of the MGM on Tropicana Blvd.
The MGM monorail terminus is right there. There is a crosswalk between MGM and Hooters. Don’t remember if there was a street light, though.
Yeah, it’s hard to tell ’cause of the HELLABRIGHT billboards all around!
Nitey nite and Sweet Warrior Dreams!
Good night to all on this International Day of Forgivness.
ralph 122….these days calling the flight attendants a stewardess may be reason for a spilled cup of coffee on ones’ lap.
here’s a fuud report for you.

well in the aftermath of this big boo boo by coach mack.
i’ve decided that the brother needed a little love so i’ve sent an email to mack encouraging him to hold his head high and to do exactly what he would tell a friend, player, and that is to take this experience and use it to do good work hereafter. now is the time more than ever to show exactly what you are made of by being an even bigger example to others.
we’re in back of mack!!!!
email mack some encouraging words, too.
