Wallace on UH hoops

Our Ferd Lewis recently spoke to former UH coach Riley Wallace, now the chairman of the CIT selection committee, about Hawaii hoops.

Courtesy of Ferd, here’s what Wallace had to say on a few things:

On UH coach Gib Arnold calling Wallace to thank him for an invite to the CIT: “He just thanked me. I was in the casino so my phone didn’t take, but he left a (voice) message thanking me for putting the team in there. He said they were all excited. It was nice.”

On his past differences with Gib: “It wasn’t anything to do with the basketball part of it, so it was fine. He does a good job for the program and wins. That’s what it is all about, the program. He’s got it back on stable ground and that’s what is important.”

On UH’s chances to host another CIT game Friday with a win on Tuesday: “That’s a possibility. I would say they’d have as good a shot as anybody. It depends on who wins and who is willing to travel that far. We’ll work with all the teams in there.”

Freshman point guard Bobby Miles sat out all of today’s team practice in preparation for the Portland Pilots. Miles hyperextended his left knee during Sunday’s session when center Doug Kurtz shoulder-rolled into Miles’ leg after the guard exploded to the rim.

Junior point guard Miah Ostrowski is prepared to play the full game, if necessary. Junior guard Zane Johnson is the backup option at the point, while freshman forward Trevor Wiseman could also be asked to slide over.

Sophomore forward Dominick Brumfield also did not practice, though that was only because he was feeling sick.
