  2. LC December 4, 2014 3:36 pm

  3. LC December 4, 2014 4:08 pm

  7. Cruisecontrol December 4, 2014 4:41 pm

    2. I would call Cindy a reliable source, but if that’s not enough, the UW schedule also shows it at 7:30pm PST.

  8. LanaiBoy December 4, 2014 5:00 pm

Re: #8 LC. I clicked on your 1st link and it does say 7:30 p.m. PT. That makes it 5:30 Hawaii time for the Saturday match.

  9. LC December 4, 2014 5:07 pm

What first link ? That link above says this
    Fri,
    Dec 05
NCAA 1st Round: Hawaii vs. Duke Seattle, WA 5:00 p.m.

    Which is 3pm HT

  10. LanaiBoy December 4, 2014 5:17 pm

LC. This link which you cited on #8. It is 7:30 p.m.

GO BOWS!. Show the people around the state that the University of Hawaii is not to be put down!. Because the University is from a little island from no were!. ALOHA & GO FOR BROKE!

  12. LanaiBoy December 4, 2014 5:20 pm

LC. Now I see what the confusion is. Cindy Luis stated that the Saturday match has been moved to 7:30 p.m. in response to a request by the Pac12 network. You are citing the Friday match instead which remains the same time of 5:00 p.m.

  13. LC December 4, 2014 5:24 pm

I don’t know what you are seeing but this is what I posted. Are you on a smart phone by any chance ?

  14. LC December 4, 2014 5:26 pm

    OK got it.Thanks
I guess she is assuming that we will beat Duke. 🙂

  15. warriorfan December 4, 2014 5:30 pm

Watching matcup of former wahine recruits Nikki Hess for Santa Clara and Taylor Agost for Oregon. Agost looks pretty good, wish UH got her.

  16. Cindy Luis December 4, 2014 5:52 pm

    3. Must you continue to be such a jerk, LC?
It was about the Saturday match, not Friday that you kept linking

There was no assumption about Hawaii beating Duke.

Just passing along from UW that the match time was changed to accommodate the Pac12
    7:30 p.m. is for Saturday match, 5:30 p.m HST

  17. Cindy Luis December 4, 2014 6:10 pm

    8) Florida State def. Jacksonville 25-13, 25-21, 25-15

  18. Maverick December 4, 2014 6:21 pm

Cindy, do you have any intel on Duke? They probably have closed practices, but just wondering. Thx.

  19. Big Island VB fan December 4, 2014 8:36 pm

Big disappointment. The live showing of the match between Hawaii and Duke is subject to a blackout. Why is that? Wonder if replay will be made available.

  20. Cindy Luis December 4, 2014 8:59 pm

    19. what intel do you want? I did capsules on each team in today’s paper.
All practices are closed per NCAA regulations. I stayed to say hello to Duke’s coach and SID and then to leave.
you can read the Duke press release on goduke.com.

    20. why would it be subject to blackout? Please give some details.

  21. hatakeman December 4, 2014 9:14 pm

Regarding the Hawaii-Duke match which is the only one pitting AVCA-ranked teams in the first round, I’ll say it – It does seem unfair to both schools. But I guess what hurt Hawaii was its drop in the RPI to No. 39. I wondered why, but got my answer by looking into the ranking for UC Riverside. Their RPI is No. 288. Duke, on the other hand, played North Carolina in their 2nd to last regular-season game, the No. 5 team, losing in five. So really, it looks more like Duke, the No. 21 ranked team, really got the short end because they drew Hawaii. And whoever wins has to play Krista Vansant and the No. 4/3 Huskies (I really think they should be No. 2). A really tall order.

  22. wilcard December 4, 2014 9:15 pm

    20. where says about blackout?

  23. kahuna December 4, 2014 9:21 pm

Why would OCsports fly up there and then blackout the game? There is no pay per view option for this game so I’m also not sure where the “blackout” notice came from. Maybe it blackouted out UW fans but OC sports is televising it for Hawaii only.

  24. hatakeman December 4, 2014 9:29 pm

Maverick, look for No. 9 OH Emily Sklar (this is not misspelled) and the two middles, No. 6 and No. 11, Alyse Whitaker and Jordan Tucker, respectively. So besides their ace Sklar who gets between 40-50 swings a match, they have a pretty good middle attack. The other OH is No. 2 Jeme Obeime (this too is not misspelled) is also pretty good. Sklar is 6-3; Whitaker 6-2; Tucker 6-0; Obeime 5-11.

  25. idk December 4, 2014 9:31 pm

I believe #20 is talking about the ESPN3 stream. I checked it out as well and it says “subject to blackout”

  26. Big Island VB fan December 4, 2014 9:46 pm

Look up the ESPN3 website. That’s what it said:
    http://espn.go.com/watchespn/index/_/search/volleyball/type/upcoming/

Hawaii vs Duke University was the only one in the list subject to blackout. I am truly dumbfounded, unable to provide more details.

  27. Cruisecontrol December 4, 2014 10:21 pm

Weird that it would be subject to blackout, unless Oceanic worked out some sort of deal with ESPN for exclusive rights to show the match in Hawaii?

  28. Maverick December 4, 2014 10:30 pm

    24. Thx for the info.
    21. Intel on team demeanor, coaches’ demeanor? Anyone with an obvious injury?

  29. blunite December 4, 2014 11:58 pm

Just saw Shoji on the news, interview on the mainland. If I did not know better he sounded like retirement was on his mind. He seemed to have a slight slur in his speech, although maybe he was just tired.

  30. OrbitalRipZ December 5, 2014 3:59 am

All things being more or less equal, I would give the edge to UH based on Shoji’s on-the-money coaching calls when the team is in dire situations.

But Jolene Nagel — in her 16th season at the helm of the Duke volleyball program — is no slouch: “Duke has made 11 NCAA Tournament appearances in the past 13 years, including an ACC-record seven straight trips to the postseason from 2005-11, and has earned a reputation as one of the elite programs on the East Coast.”

    Go Bows!

  31. tom December 5, 2014 7:18 am

    GOOD MORNING, HAWAII!

Thank you Cindy for all the info and intel!

    GO WAHINE!

  32. Haolebob December 5, 2014 7:59 am

  34. hatakeman December 5, 2014 9:12 am

    It’s Friday. Go Bows!!!

  35. 'ohanaInBellingham December 5, 2014 9:40 am

That is a cool article on Nikki, Cindy! I can see why you didn’t include a pronunciation guide, as there are dialect differences.

Creideamh will come in handy tonight.

  36. Cindy Luis December 5, 2014 10:13 am

thanks for the kind words. didn’t think to add a pronunciation guide.
will put a game day thread in a bit

As for the Blackout. ESPN3 is an website. it has nothing to do with OC16s telecast.

re: Intel on Duke. they got in Wednesday night at 730. no injuries. Coach has had a lot of success. I’m not big on reading into ‘demeanor.’ All I can tell you is they had a huge team bus with a driver to drive them around. UH, with much less money, used a couple of vans and coaches driving.

  37. Cindy Luis December 5, 2014 11:55 am

new thread has been up for a while

  38. Cindy Luis December 5, 2014 1:23 pm

    30. blunite, if you saw Shoji on TV Thursday and it wasn’t on OC-16, then likely that was the canned interview from Tuesday after a 6 a.m. practice.
That would have been the last time the stations other than OC16 would have had a chance to get him on camera.

  39. wildcard December 5, 2014 11:35 pm

    39. what canned interview? you mean it was cancelled/discarded from being broadcast?
