Shoji on Curran's show this morning

Shoji made a very brief appearance on BC’s show this morning. was around 630.

Some comments:

Felt they should have beaten USD, knew they’d be tough, a veteran team that had great ball-control, maybe better ball-control than UH had

Felt Texas was easier to prepare for. That they set the ball high, giving UH time to set up the block. didn’t always block it but got enough of a touch to slow the ball down and let the defense do its thing

Looking forward to playing New Mexico State. Jordan a good coach who develops his players.

As for getting back in the gym, said a mindless practice Tuesday, meaning a lot of reps and skills. which is pretty much the norm after a day off. Wednesday worked on tactics. Said he did tell the team they need to step it up because these are the type of teams that can beat you if you don’t.

Didn’t talk much about ‘the record.’ did agree with BC that things have changed from when the time he and others like Banachowski, Gregory, Hebert coaches. That big-time programs no longer hiring people in their 20s. That it doesn’t mean they’re aren’t good coaches out their but he said back in the day they were playing 40 games. which doesn’t happen any more.

that was about it.

one comment on the 40 games. Shoji’s first two years, Wahine played 18 and 19 matches, respectively. both years all but 2 of those matches came during the 3-day AIAW national tournament. So to me that he was under 20 for 2 years cancelled the 2 times he played 40 (41 in 79, 44 in 84)

Jordan has no significant achievements in this sport ,good coach my butt.

  2. Cindy Luis September 5, 2013 7:56 am

Been waiting for that for a while from you LC. Those were Shoji’s words.

one thing I disagree with Bobby is his dislike of some of the changes in his ‘bumper’ music, the music that bridges the breaks and when they go back on the air. How can he not like AC-DC’s “Thunder.”

  4. Cindy Luis September 5, 2013 8:16 am

Thank you. of course we know it should have been pidgin
thought Stein Metzger did a nice job of it, tho.
forgot about him being on staff.

  5. LC September 5, 2013 8:19 am

If you see Mike you should call him out on the misspelling. 🙂

  6. Cindy Luis September 5, 2013 8:33 am

funny you should say that. texted him that very thing. he was not happy about it since it was supposed to be a private thing at practice.
Soooooo to that end, he asked if I would delete the link. Sorry but I have.
People might be able to find it briefly on the web but Sealy is trying to get it pulled.
    good luck on that.

But for those who missed it, Metzger did an explanation (I think of a defensive plan) that was in very thick pidgin.

  7. LC September 5, 2013 8:41 am

Understand but I wasn’t offended, thought it was kinda funny.I found it on their team web site so he might want to start there.

  8. Cindy Luis September 5, 2013 8:51 am

Thanks for understanding. He asked if I could tell who had done it. told him the hashtag Will let him know it’s up on his team website.

  9. LC September 5, 2013 8:58 am

It’s actually on their Instagram account then linked to their web site and other social media sites so like you said good luck with that.

  10. Cindy Luis September 5, 2013 9:06 am

I did let Sealy know about the links on their page. thanks again.

  11. Cindy Luis September 5, 2013 9:29 am

his response was : Not for long.

it’ll be interesting to see how new mexico st is faring these days… the thought was that they’d be dominating the WAC once hawaii leaves. that hasn’t really happened, although they did come up big in their tourney last year. they lost hays to transfer. for sure they’d be stronger with her.

santa clara lost a lot from last year’s team. they may be rebuilding and struggle a little this year.

same with ucla … but they’ll be rebuilding with a lot more talent on the roster than santa clara does. ucla has had hawaii’s number the past couple years, but maybe not this year. hawaii may just too experienced for ucla this year.

Just listened to a podcast from bleedcrimson.net out of Las Cruces They said Aggies didn’t arrive in Honolulu until 4:30 am this morning spent 16 hours in some airport.

  14. LanaiBoy September 5, 2013 1:17 pm

Interested in seeing UCLA’s Karsta Lowe. Had monster weekend last week, getting 52 kills overall, 5.20 kps, and an outrageous .557 hitting percentage, outstanding for an outside hitter. She is a junior; interesting how some players truly blossom after a couple of years experience (averaged about 2 kps last year). UCLA uses a 6-2 offense so we will see Monica Stauber in the starting lineup.

Hawaiian Airlines #35 from Phoenix was majorly delayed & did arrive at 4:30am today.

  16. LC September 5, 2013 2:05 pm

Isn’t Hawaiian the #1 on time airlines or is it… we lose less baggage than other airlines ?

  17. Warriorfan September 5, 2013 2:17 pm

    14. Sure but UCLA’s competition , Albany, LMU and North Texas was not strong.

  18. Kazu September 5, 2013 2:57 pm

Wonder if Hawaiian gave the participating teams discount on their air fare.Must have one tired group being stuck at the airport for that amount of time.

  19. Cindy Luis September 5, 2013 3:14 pm

are you sure NMSU didn’t get in until Thursday morning? they were supposed to be in on Wednesday afternoon. but i believe your podcast report.
I will find out when I get to the arena.

  20. Cindy Luis September 5, 2013 3:21 pm

    18. doubt if Hawaiian gave NMSU any special discount beyond the compensation they gave normal passengers. but, again will ask.

  21. Cindy Luis September 5, 2013 3:26 pm

    12. need to make sure to efer to them as New Mexico State not New Mexico. big difference between NMSU and UNM. just like people kept saying Arizona vs. Arizona State when discussing Croson (UA) and Kastl (ASU).

  22. LC September 5, 2013 3:26 pm

I’m just going by Sam’s podcast with a Las Cruces reporter. It was today around 1:30pm HST . If we find out different I’ll let him know.

  23. Cindy Luis September 5, 2013 3:28 pm

not a big deal. I’ll be at the arena in a bit and find out. but if you find out earlier … thanking you in advance.

  24. Cindy Luis September 5, 2013 3:35 pm

but sadly the life of a non-BCS team that can’t afford that extra travel day to make sure they can be here 2 days ahead of time and have a hotel stay. Not easy to get here from Las Cruces.

  25. Kazu September 5, 2013 3:53 pm

I checked the arrival time of flt 35 for Wed and it was posted at 4:30 am Sept 5.

  26. Cubicle1126 September 5, 2013 5:06 pm

  27. Beauston September 5, 2013 7:03 pm
