Speraw hired as U.S. men's coach
Speraw will remain as UCLA’s coach. Interesting since Knipe took a leave from LBS to coach the men’s national team.
John Speraw, a two-time Olympic assistant coach for the U.S. Men’s National Volleyball Team, has been named the program’s head coach for the next Olympic Games quadrennial culminating at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, USA Volleyball Chief Executive Officer Doug Beal announced on Monday.
Speraw, 41, will also continue as the head men’s volleyball coach at UCLA in a dual role with the U.S. Men’s National Volleyball Team. He accepted the head job at his alma mater in June 2012 and is completing his first campaign with the Bruins.

While I am happy for the US since he is a good coach I am not happy he is allowed to coach UCLA at the same time. That is completely an unfair recruiting advantage to UCLA over other schools. Speraw now can tell every top notch recruit he can coach them and put them on the olympic team in 2016 or 2020.
Doesn’t matter much to me…UH has a 2-1 record over the Speraw-coached UCLA team…that’s all that matters right now.
Oh, yeah…and glad to see Scates no longer scowling the sidelines, berating officials, jawing at fans, or asking for ‘better locker rooms’…
Well sure this season doesn’t matter much but 2014, 2015, and 2016 if they clean house in local recruiting I will not be amused (not like UCLA needs more of an advantage)
not to disappoint you warriorfan, but they’ve already signed Senior OH from Hawaii Baptist, Michael Fisher
But Hawaii did get Kupuno Fey (Punahou) and Nainoa Frank (Kalaheo) for 2013-14. But I believe Frank is not playing this year but not totally sure because I didn’t see him.
I know Hawaii is heavily recruiting Evan Enriques. Charlie Wade was there to watch him at the Hawaii Volleyball Invitational this past weekend. Also another 2013-14 recruit Dane Keckin (Santa Monica) was at the tournament and he made All-Tournament Team.
I like the ability for pictorial captions?..the rest of us?!

Don’t care for the new hire, tho it’s right in line with keeping it ALL homogeneous. 😉

NOT officially Beach/State, but reliable none the less. I have my suspicions as to who may be tweeting from VT. If it’s who I think it may be, he’d like nothing more than to watch his 49ers beat up on the Wahine on any given day.

Boy, Cindy really ‘came out’ like gangbusters for: Shoji asks “What do we have to do?”
..COOL!!

Best of the analyses td..

I think Scott maybe should pair up Croson with Kastl they were doing well before,
although Kastl/Tai looked good against Nebraska.
Or maybe split Spieler/Long since they aren’t doing well, and Pair Ginger and Croson? Spieler with someone big at the net like Urban?
I think UH will do better against USC in the rematch.
Me:
With the exception being that Croson NEEDS to play RS (if only for this 2013 WSVB season, as she did with Larissa in starting off the 2012 season).
Shoji must get to ‘specifics’!
I could see ‘them’ playing in the Golden Hurricane Classic, against two “ranked teams”, also.
🙂
Where is everyone today?
“Eastcoasters” are just that lively aren’t they; aren’t they intense individuals, generally speaking?!..The trinity is God (NOT anyone else)!!
@#6, Shoji asks “What do we have to do?”
Go at least 26-2 in 2013 with losses to the one of “two ranked on the road” teams in the preseason AND LBSU @ Long Beach.
The rest should take care of itself in the way of being a Top 16 seed…I like them playing in Ontario @ their convention center with seating for ‘enough’.
Shoji’s contract expires in the 2014-15 school year, so it really is just about all over anyway.
Na Wahine, EVERYBODY knows, will NOT be the same when he retires. They’ll ALWAYS be relevant but they won’t be an axis of power on which they teeter currently.
—
In Sept. Na Wahine will play in the midwest against three for a two day Friday (11a & 8:00p)/one day Saturday (7:00p) Tourney.
They’ll play UCRiverside on the 27th @SSC.
In Oct. they’ll play their alumnae on the 18th, Fullerton on the 24th, a BW team that Saturday the 26th with another BW opponent mid-week (the week of the 27th).
In Nov. they’ll play a Japanese team for “exibitions” the last weekend of the month..preceeded the day before by Thanksgiving. I STILL think that the WSVB Team will end up playing the indoors team, say, Veteran’s Day Nov. 11th.
—
They’ll beast TX, SD, UCLA, Dayton? (neutral court), LBSU, and their alumnae/WSVB team/Nittaidai (2x). This all seems pretty good to me!
&UH volleyball moves slowly into the future…
According to Long Beach State’s Facebook says they beat Hawaii 4-1
http://www.longbeachstate.com/sports/w-svolley/recaps/032613aaa.html
oh well kind of expected them to lose to the beach.
Some positive news though a reliable poster geddyleemavin is saying Stanford’s Karissa Cook is transferring to UH and playing sand next season. She is a good player. UH sand will be loaded with the addition of Cook, Tiegs, Shinn, Rooks and possibly Nikki Taylor.
Volleyballfreak Frank is injured I think.
I’m not that upset about losing Fisher, UH really needs to get Enriques though, that kid is a great all around talent and could be the new Eyal Zimet for UH.
We all know Hartong is not playing sand this year. Do you think she will rejoin the sand team after her Senior season indoor or is sand completely out of the question and she will focus on her national team ambitions?
If Hartong plays sand next year they will be really loaded.
Warriorfan and vballfreak808 – yes, Frank was injured during football season (last game of the regular season I think). He tore either the ACL or MCL, or it could have been both. He didn’t play during basketball season and isn’t on the volleyball roster.
Kamehameha-Hawaii was here on Oahu last weekend for the Hawaii Boys Volleyball Invitational at ‘Iolani and they came to the Saturday match vs. Pacific. Enriques I believe is a Junior and although I imagine everyone in the MPSF is looking at him, I’m unsure who specifically is (although you said UH is)

@15
Yeah, tho that ACL is still being rehabbed never the less.
Ka Ulukoa being the elders and NOT the boys who are still in season.
I’d be curious to know who plays for Lokahi also, rebooted. It’s been sooo long since the Velasco&Sons era.

Sawaiians..same ol’ same ole (Aneli led)
Who’s HI Life composed of.anybody know? Kari I’d think is coaching and NOT setting, however. Ladeda anyway. 😉
Forgot, too.
Congrats to Croson-Kastl on going 19-21, 21-10, 15-7 with Caitlin Ledoux, 2012 Long Beach State AVCA SVB All-Am.-Tara Roenicke, 2012 Long Beach State AVCA SVB All-Am. yesterday in SoCal.
Longo-Riggs being the lone brightspots (again, so far this season) with yet another win.
Don’t see Hartong playing sand next year. think her future is indoor but it is almost a year away.
Is Nainoa Frank related to Kealii Frank?
Nainoa is the little brother. I also think he might be better and more athletic than big bro so he’s a great pickup.
20. Good to hear.
Keallii was great at Punahou, and kind of a bust a UH, although he didn’t have many opportunities. Whatever happened to him?
He wasn’t a bust, he just decided to move on.
It’s too bad though he would have been really good.
