Phoenix prep QB commits to UH

Quarterback Kevin Spain of Paradise Valley High in Arizona told The Warrior Beat he has accepted a football scholarship from the Warriors.
“I’m really happy about it,” said Spain, who is 6 feet 2 and 190 pounds. “I’ve always been a fan of Colt Brennan. I can’t wait to play in his offense.”
Spain also plays baseball and lacrosse.
Span attended Arizona State’s football camp. ASU already received a commitment from a quarterback. But ASU head coach recommended Spain to Greg McMackin. McMackin was Erickson’s defensive coordinator with the Seattle Seahawks in the mid-1990s.
“I committed (to UH) today,” Spain said. “I’m super-excited about everything.”
Spain will be the sixth member of UH’s 2010 recruiting class.

Dominick Sierra of La Habra High in Whittier, Calif., has accepted a scholarship offer from the Warriors. Sierra plays tight end, cornerback and safety, but is projected to compete at linebacker at UH. He is 6 feet 1 and 207 pounds. He runs 40 yards in 4.7 seconds.

J-E-T-T. Jett! Jett! Jett!
The uniquely named Jett Jasper, a sophomore wideout from Kaua‘i, took a couple of minutes to chat with the Warrior Beat.
Jett?
“The story has it when I was in my mom’s tummy, I was kicking around, like I was due to take off like a jet on an aircraft carrier. That’s why they named me Jett. I love how the name is Jett, and not many people have it. I feel special.”
T as in Tsai-ko:
“The two Ts are cool, too. I tell everyone the first T is silent. It’s kind of a joke.”
His family owns a popular restaurant on Kaua‘i called JJ’s Broiler.
“Everybody thinks it’s named after me. My grandfather, Jim Jasper, started it. It’s named after him. And it’s not named after June Jones.”
The family business:
“I worked in my restaurant since I could walk, doing dishes, putting away silverware. I helped prep cook. I can make almost everything on the menu. It’s been a great learning experience. I love barbecuing steak. On the grill, I can barbecue anything. I love it. The best thing to do is get the rib-eye and put a lot of salt on it. That’s all you need. Nothing fancy. No fancy sauce. Just rib-eye and salt.”
Livin’ Lihue:
“I was born and raised on Kaua‘i. Not too many haole guys born and raised on Kaua‘i. It was a great experience. It made me stronger being a minority. I have tons of friends back home. i love them all. I felt accepted.”
If he had a vote on Super Ferry …
“I approve Super Ferry. It had more benefits than negatives. I did tons of projects on it. I had the perspective of being on the island. It would have helped out so many people. Too bad it’s gone.”
From futbol to football:
“I started playing soccer. I wanted to play football. My friends were playing football. I could hear them on the loudspeaker because the football stadium is right next to the soccer field. One day, I said, ‘I want to play football.’ My dad said OK. I was a tall, skinny kid, but that’s what I wanted to do.”
Why UH?
“It’s the best place in the world. It’s as simple as that.”

Rich2176, doing his fan dance, was quite popular the other night. (He brought $5,000 worth of UH-UNLV football tickets.)

It seems weird yet not weird to have all this early recruiting. It’s so different from what UH had done for so long, but it seems so natural when you consider Mack is at the helm. Does that make sense?

  4. ai-eee-soos June 22, 2009 12:11 am

    More speed at LB

Coach Mack & Co. aren’t wasting time in building for the future.

  5. Jason June 22, 2009 12:12 am

Here’s something I’ve always wondered: Why do people list AOL.com for their Web site? I’ve seen other people do that, and ai-eee-soos reminded me of that just now. 😛

Welcome to the Warriors Dominick Sierra! I stayed in Whittier last week and know the La Habra area well. That seems like a good area for a UH pipeline…Hawaiian restaurants all over the place and lots of people with Hawaii ties.

  13. Garret (phone) June 22, 2009 12:37 am

    Jason,

    Re: your post at #3

I think this is a great example of UH reacting to the change in the recruiting landscape. Mac and Tony Tuioti deserve praise, as do all the UH coaches involved.

To show how recruiting has changed, Texas was basically done with its 2010 class a month ago and has already had a camp for 2011 recruits. JJ already has 13 commits, Houston has 12, etc.

  14. Garret (phone) June 22, 2009 12:43 am

    Liz,

Thank you for the photo! I remember seeing someone setting up a photo and how I snuck into the background of the picture. DPK and I had been talking and I had no idea who was getting their photo taken. Pretty cool that was Big C…she must have been gone shortly after that photo because I didn’t see her after DPK and I finished talking.

The NY Times has UH as the #71 team in the country. Here are some parts from their article on UH today. They predict UH will finish in a tie for 3rd in the WAC.

So where do I put the Warriors in the WAC pecking order? Fifth, in terms of where it falls on the Countdown, but in a tie with Fresno State and Louisiana Tech for third. I like the offense, which returns seven starters, and think it can make great strides over its mediocre performance of a season ago.

Dream season: Despite its major losses on defense, Hawaii puts it all together in a 10-3 regular season. The Warriors finish tied with Boise State atop the WAC.

For an in-depth look at the program, take a look at Stephen Tsai’s blog for The Honolulu Advertiser.

  34. Garret June 22, 2009 7:10 am

The NY Times article on UH football includes a top 5 list for Honolulu restaurants.

    1. Sushi King (King St.): You haven’t seen sashimi until you’ve been to S.K.
    2. Little Village (Smith St.): Mrs. Chan and her chicken-chive pot stickers.
    3. Happy Day (Waialae Ave.): Lisa, the tireless proprietor, works from dawn till midnight.
    4. Liliha Seafood: Nothing better than Chinese food on the way to the airport.
    5. Saigon Express: A Vietnamese stall in Waikiki’s International Market.

  35. Garret June 22, 2009 7:12 am

Samson is back at practice but is working with the second team right now since he’s just recently returned from injury.

Robert Gallery and Cooper Carlisle are the guards, with John Wade getting the first team reps over Samson Satele, as Satele returns from offseason surgery.

  36. Garret June 22, 2009 7:14 am

Article about one of Central Arkansas’ opponents shows the respect they have for Central Arkansas.

“Central Arkansas will probably be the best football team we’ve ever played,” said Miner head coach Kirby Cannon. “They are picked to win the Southland Confeence and open the season with Hawaii.

    Pete Fiutak – CFN
Who are the most overrated teams going into the season?
It’s the Thursday topic in the CFN Daily Roundtable Discussion.

Q: The most overrated team will be … ?
    1- Ole Miss
    2- Virgina Tech

    3. Boise State – I always get yelled at whenever I dare to suggest that playing in the WAC is the main reason for the great record over the years, but this isn’t a top 15 based on talent with lines that aren’t top 20-worthy and a suspect receiving corps. Would you take Boise State over Georgia, who’s ranked lower in almost every preseason poll, on a neutral field in the season opener? Of course you wouldn’t.

    4- Ohio State
    5- Texas

Yep, but you gotta admit from their high view of themselves as gurus, it’s interesting that they also cover their okoles too. Not quite committed to their pre season evals- but good to get these teams motivated like us at 5-6 in WAC to show’em what they don’t know yet!
I’ll be impressed when anyone of them admits they were wrong when games played and they win.

    BG,

Yes sir! That game was awesome!!!

I’ll never forget that whole night and seeing Sjmacro jumping out of not only his seat, but his row and going insane.

I think I remember literally crawling on my hands and knees up the stairs when it was all over.

That was the same day of the BASHING we took at Corvallis. I wasn’t originally planning on going to the game, until me and my friends felt the need to wash that horrible loss against the Beavs out of our mouths and I think the 5,000+ on hand that night felt the same way. The student section was rockin’ and even the people busy knitting put down their needles after the 3rd set.

Amber Kaufman was on FIRE that night and kept the momentum going for the Wahine!!!

  85. al June 22, 2009 12:44 pm

st….i think their ratings were slipping. soon it will be jon and kate plus 8 + 2 (gf/bf). a story of how the 8 are adapting to single parentdom.

st….please ask jett if i could get the recipe for their slavonic steak.

  86. Stephen Tsai June 22, 2009 12:50 pm

Actually, they’ve had monster ratings this season.
    And Jon has Hawai‘i ties.

  87. al June 22, 2009 1:03 pm

yah, i was only playing around. the boss watches every episode at least 10 times. jon is part korean isn’t he? with family ties locally. i believe many locals came out for their second marriage ceremony. hey wasn’t that like last year?

i heard all the accomodations were comped on top of all that.

anyway, i told the boss that kate was too controlling. i told the boss no man wants to be controlled…..thump! i get a whack on the side of the head.

    ouch.

  88. al June 22, 2009 1:05 pm

what a difference two years make…..

two years ago we didn’t even have one scholie offered.
now we have two dozen offers on the table
    and
    five commits already.
later this week we probably have another two or three.

boy, if you want to play the university of hawaii, these days, you better let them know as soon as possible. otherwise, the wait list will be long.

  89. al June 22, 2009 1:07 pm

    “play for”

  90. kama krab June 22, 2009 1:10 pm

    Howzit Everybody,

I would like to say that I had a lot of fun hanging out with the Tsaiko’s this past Saturday. I was nice to see long lost brothers of mine Koakane, J(J), Homey, and Kekoa. It was also nice to meet Garret and Rich. Mahalo to SteveM for putting together this get together.

Also I would like to say mahalo much to Rich again for picking up these tickets for all us Tsaiko’s. It will be one hell of a night when the Tsaiko’s run crazy on the Rebel’s home turf.

  91. kama krab June 22, 2009 1:13 pm

    oh and one more thing,

It was also nice to meet Mr. and Mrs. Coloma.

  92. Colomaohana June 22, 2009 1:20 pm

Howzit, kama krab! Next time I sit down talk story wit’ you! I was little bit busy…..(a.k.a. little bit playing around too much!) hahahaha…

  93. kama krab June 22, 2009 1:23 pm

Ah no problem Mrs. C, I see you next time.

  94. Colomaohana June 22, 2009 1:23 pm

    Kekoa: #83 CAN!

  95. al June 22, 2009 1:27 pm

    i know poueu-luna is a legit 4.4 – 4.5 guy.

in the same combine a few months ago, he ran one of the few 4.5 40’s.
while sierra ran a 4.9 in that same combine while he reports a 4.7 best
and that other rb recruit ran a combine 4.7 and yet his best is 4.5.

so that is saying something about poueu-luna’s speed.

  96. Rob25 June 22, 2009 1:34 pm

What a good idea! The last mail needs to be sent by July 1st. I guess the good news is that they are getting prepared to come home soon and don’t want to have mail to also deal with.

Let me know when you will have it finish and I can stick it in my last box that I am planning on mailing out.

Kekoa has my email and phone number…leave me a message.

  97. Colomaohana June 22, 2009 1:36 pm

Hey ST…thanks for the link. I just saw “The Hangover” this weekend and didn’t know that one of the actors was going out with Jennifer Aniston.

BTW…it was weird seeing Mike Tyson in this flick…pretty random to have him in it.

  110. Rob25 June 22, 2009 2:21 pm

I think that there is another lesson…don’t get drunk and get your face tatooed. I mean that thing is just silly looking. 😳

The Chinese guy was a trip!! 😆

  118. Kazz June 22, 2009 2:28 pm

    Rob,

I like they way they wrote out the movie in that the audience is just as confused as the characters as to how everything came to be so messed up.

It keeps the audience guessing how something came to be and so forth.

I would have had fun, as writer of the film, to come up with all those insane instances, like the missing tooth, a tiger and a baby in the room, a stolen cop car, a Vegas quickie marriage, etc…

But as for the Chinese guy in the film, his character was odd, but seriously could have done WITHOUT the full frontal scene! 😡 😆

  119. C rM June 22, 2009 2:30 pm

    Rob25
Hey, that’s what reality is. Bleeps and all. They no like it, no watch. Ha ha ha

  136. Rob25 June 22, 2009 4:07 pm

    Thanks BG!!

I think that will be plenty…they can share them and pass them around.

I’m pretty sure that many of them are jonesing for some football too. I know that Frank is.

    Thanks for the wonderful gesture!

  137. kama krab June 22, 2009 4:08 pm

Looks like Manley will be left high and dry.

If they do decide to pick up Manley or Higgins then we are definitely going to see one of them transferring and that would not be the best situation for us and them.

  138. al June 22, 2009 4:11 pm

so kevin “i’ve never been to…” spain goes from paradise valley high to the university of paradise.

  139. kama krab June 22, 2009 4:12 pm

    Al,

You got any insight on other recruits that might be signing soon. I know you had some info on Spain signing. So was just wondering.

Maybe you got some info on some of the bigger fish in the see like V.J., Micah, Kona, or the Kapolei Kids.

  140. al June 22, 2009 4:13 pm

i think manley has had the offer in his hand for well over a year now.

higgins’ options are growing by the day.

  141. Stephen Tsai June 22, 2009 4:13 pm

I don’t think they’re giving up on Manley or Higgins.

  142. Stephen Tsai June 22, 2009 4:13 pm

    Plus, Spain can play safety.

  143. BG June 22, 2009 4:17 pm

You got it, Robyn…only too easy!

  144. kama krab June 22, 2009 4:20 pm

    Stephen,

What are the chances that either Manley or Higgins sign with U.H.

And what are our chances of landing a V.J. Fehoko or Micah Hatchie.

  145. BG June 22, 2009 4:22 pm

    al

True comments on Manley and Higgins. Times are a-changing. If a young man truly wants to play for Hawaii, the opportunity is there when offerred…otherwise, the window of opportunity will not stay open forever. It cuts both ways and is fair.

  146. Rob25 June 22, 2009 4:23 pm

Hey kama krab nice meeting you this weekend!

  147. Rob25 June 22, 2009 4:24 pm

Love seeing all these commits so early!

Keep up the good work coaches!!

  148. kama krab June 22, 2009 4:25 pm

    Same here Rob25

  149. al June 22, 2009 4:25 pm

haven’t seen the lil birdie in a while.

my opinion is that vj will go abroad.

the two keepers are kona schwenke and micah hatchie. the former is leaning towards byu, we could be close second because of the strong ties to his church.

hatchie is being wooed now be everyone else in the nation. this could go down to wire.

there are a ton of athletes in this state. i hope we can land half of the good ones.

here’s a guy that i would really like to see on the dotted line. desmond tautofi, the last of a long line of tautofi’s from palolo valley. he could be the best one yet. he is bigger than daniel and just as athletic. he’s barely pushing 6′ 3″. if he gets to 6’3″ or more (like his older brothers) i’d break tradition and make him an offensive tackle. he would be the first in his family but he has nfl potential as an olineman.

    …nuff said.
    (back to work)

  150. Ralph June 22, 2009 4:28 pm

only one local recruit committed, 5 from the upper 49….local fans can’t keep on complaining that the UH coaches don’t offer local talent, the locals got to commit early and not view UH as the last resort….

  151. kama krab June 22, 2009 4:30 pm

    Thanks Al,

    You the best.

Hopefully we can land at least one of them to show that we have a fighting chance for the best in the state.

  152. al June 22, 2009 4:30 pm

my guess is that we land at least one of them and not both.
    manley or higgins.

higgins’ dad(jim) is a former center for the warriors and has been very instrumental in our recruiting of samoa. isaako sopoaga for one. don’t forget jeremy’s brother is still a junior at weber state and the nfl is drooling all over him. jeremy could follow in brother’s footsteps.

  153. kama krab June 22, 2009 4:32 pm

    Ralphie,

I think we have three from here and three from the greater 49.

    Loyd from Moanalua
    Anguay from Campbell
    Lau from Kailua

  154. letsgowarriors June 22, 2009 4:33 pm

    we are at

    3 local
    3 mainland

  155. lava June 22, 2009 4:33 pm

I’d be surprised if a spot isn’t open for Manley if he wants to be a Warrior. Personally I’ll be surprised if Graves doesn’t win the job next year.

I’m looking forward to some “big” news soon on some of the big boys.

  156. lava June 22, 2009 4:35 pm

By the way, there was a lot of talent at the camp today. I sensed some good energy.

  157. kama krab June 22, 2009 4:36 pm

Would be nice to have Manley but as of right now it seems that he is fronting and wanting U.H. to kiss his you no what and he should know that it’s not going to happen.

Higgins might be the diamond in the ruff. If he can produce like his brother, he will be a great pick up for whoever signs him.

al, i think your vid was also of him.

  163. Kazz June 22, 2009 5:27 pm

    ST,

Jett’s younger sister plays softball for the same HS Jessica Iwata was on yeah? I don’t know if she’s a senior or a junior, but think she’s “eyeing” UH for college? 😉

  164. PIAA DS June 22, 2009 5:31 pm

Garrett, if you come, go to Little Village and try the Volcano pork chops and the crispy string beans. OMG. Nothing better. Well, maybe the honey walnut shrimp (and I dont like walnuts and its so ono!)

Just so you guys know, Manley is a really good kid. He has no attitude and like many kids will weigh his options. He may choose UH or now that we got another QB commit and it seems like they are really only planning on taking one, maybe two, this option might be gone. There are a lot of local boys that weigh their options then choose UH. Same with Hatchie too. Really good kids. Hopefully they’ll make the “right” decision!

  165. madeinhawaii June 22, 2009 5:47 pm

What I like about the Kevin Spain kid is that he been doing everything from under center. With more time in the shotgun, he should be able to make his reads and with his quick release, accuracy and scrambling ability, he’s a real double threat.

  166. madeinhawaii June 22, 2009 5:48 pm

He’ll also have one more year of eligibility than Colt did.. + a redshirt year.

  167. chawan_cut June 22, 2009 5:51 pm

he’s also doing a lot running for his life. not sure if its his OL or broken plays, but he sure is scrambling a lot.

    74 days until football.

    Switching up the routine….
(actually, dumped the routine awhile back 🙄 )

Big part of summers now is all the football camps. Many on the mainland; some in Hawaii. Lots of variation: no pads/no contact to full pads/full contact. Most take registration from individuals, some are “team camps”

Linfield does a couple of team camps during the summer. When we visited the campus a couple of summers ago with #2 son, we onknowingly happened to arrive as one was going on. Quite impressive. Maybe 10-12 teams in attendance; lots of activity going on all at once. Very exciting atmosphere. Nice way to while away the time as a spectator.

Here’s a link to some scenes of this year’s camp:

The USC coach who went to Washington is Steve Sarkisian, the new HC there.

I dont think we’ll see Manley at USC.

good news or bad news, and for whom? I out weight two of the 2010 recruits and both are about 4 ” taller than me…can’t imagine catching a ball in the flats with Paipai focused on my head and guys like aulola, aaron brown and Lametrius davis coming in to add to my misery…good luck mr. lau and mr. anguay, after a few katooshes, i hope you still enjoy the game because UH doesn’t offer P.E. football. Your success will be much appreciated for all of us little guys….

  183. Ralph June 22, 2009 7:50 pm

how many of our qb’s are being recruited for other positions, like WR or db’s…Rausch, Moniz and Austin will have another year of eligibility, add the three freshmen coming in the fall, that’s 6, add Spain, now we have 7. Manley? then 8

  186. al June 22, 2009 8:50 pm

why do we have so many qb’s?

what position is the one position on offense that requires the absolute best guy available?

there is only one qb on the field. the coaches are tasked with finding the holy grail. colt brennan was one. they need to have one like him to make everything else click.

sure we need olinemen. we need 5 on the field.
we need receivers, 4 to be exact.
we need one running back. who touches the ball say 15 times per game.
we need one quarterback, the trigger man, the straw the stirs the drink.

the qb needs to be our best player or else nothing goes right. he reads, passes, runs, blocks, he is the one that determines where the ball goes and how it gets there.

the search for that one guy is tantamount to what we do. we need to find that guy every year.

we need to find the guy who can step in when our guy goes down by injury, academics, homesickness, or other personal matters. we need two guys who can do it just in case.

then, we need about six guys to run an effective practice.

all men were not created equal. some we bring in will surprise and some will disappoint. these are facts of life, facts of football. numbers, we need numbers, we need numbers who can step up when one goes down.

we aren’t there yet. we are getting there.

  187. al June 22, 2009 8:54 pm

none of these qb’s are recruited for secondary positions, trust me.

last year, we offer two guys very early. one commits right away and another commits late. but our coach has stated he will not renege an offer so true to his word he accepts both guys. then along comes a guy who jumps out of the video, a proven winner, and all that. so they offer him, why, cuz they know they have to find that holy grail for the future.

USC has 5 qbs, only two fully recruited, Corp and Barkley, Barkley was the number 1 HS recruit this year…that’s why Carroll wanted Sanchez to remain at USC…give Corp more time to develop and bring Barkley in to challenge next year. Mustain was a disgruntled qb transfer from Arkansas with fellow teammate Williams but he loss the spring match up with Corp and is not happy at USC being second banana. The other two won’t see the field, one is a senior and the other a 6’0 soph. who won’t compete with Corp, Barkley and even Mustain… of the 5, who is on scholarship- two for sure, Barkely and Corp…

How does the iPhone perform at Aloha Stadium? Last year I had the first gen phone and I couldn’t use it at all in the stadium. I hope this phone does better.

  201. COPO June 22, 2009 10:26 pm

Hopefully they’ll make the “right” decision.

PIAA – Doris Sullivan, you are a godsend for the state of Hawaii, high school athletes, their families, coaches (HS, JC, all college levels). Keep up your great service to the state, your staff included. Most people don’t realize the “sacrifice and commitment” required to accumulate all of the recruiting info and the seemingly endless communication process – contacts, profiles, cross checks w/coaches, other players, (phone, email, letters, twitter, videos, CD’s, internet site). God Bless You!

  202. kama krab June 22, 2009 10:28 pm

I think Hawaii should be fine in the QB department. I say this because the Qb position is a hit or miss position that you need numbers in.

I feel the same as others, Graves is the real deal and needed to be picked up by Mac. The other two will bring heavy competition to the position and will push for the starting position in 2011 or even as early as 2010.

  203. al ™ June 22, 2009 10:30 pm

Was able to check out the “Big Boys” camp up at UH, good number in attendance, lots of help with ex-players helping out the staff, saw the “legend” Cal Lee supervising, he looked good in that role.

Pastor Joe Onosai was in attendance, he was there supporting his 4 or 5 linemen participating, expect Onosai’s Word of Life “FIREBRANDS” squad to make some noise in the DII of the ILH in 09, looks like his linemen are not only big, but they look athletic and displayed excellent effort during first day drills.

Early commitments can be bad – now all the other schools know who the “enemy” is and will prepare their plan of attack on the enemy, the head coaches will call in the area recruiting coach and coordinator and ask ‘did you know about this kid? why not? and if the coach did his due dilligence in his area he should have an answer. Most head coaches and assistants will find out as much as they can about the verbally committed player, ask his coach questions, other college coaches questions, watch more film. After more research the coach may go back to the HC and lobby to recruit the kid, if he shows interest back. Nowadays, most Big Time programs like USC, have received verbal commitments from many 4 to 5 star recruits by now, but even USC can lose verbal commitments at the last minute and have a scholarship available like last year when the LB from Kapolei – Simione Vehikite – accepted a scholarship after his performance in the Hawaii vs US all-star game.
All of the early verbal commitments received by the Warriors are just that ” verbal commitments” it sure is apparent that coach Mac and his staff are pushing the pedal and identified the type of recruits for their system and are offering scholarships to the guys now! They’ve offered many more but the majority of recruits with “multiple” offers will most likely wait until they take their recruiting trips before they make up their minds, every situation is different, for the Hawaii kids, especially the smaller athletic and quick types, they usually fall through the cracks, most colleges don’t come to Hawaii to recruit speed or quickness, especially if you’re small, there are thousands of these guys in places like CA, TX, FL. etc. Colleges will usually visit Hawaii for linemen and linebackers! Thus a Chad Owens or a Ashley Lelie slips through the cracks. Hopefully coach Mac, Ron Lee, can get some Chad Owens type efforts from the slots ( if they stay committed), best of luck to these local boys.
** Warriors did lose two verbally commited high profile defensive linemen to the Pac – 10, Keliikipi and Makaula, so it’s never over till it’s over (when they sign on the dotted line, via fax)
Coach Mac and staff expect the heat and I’m sure they will do everything in their power to secure their commitments.

Miami entertainment figures Gloria and Emilio Estefan will be announced as Miami Dolphins minority owners Thursday by Dolphins majority owner Stephen Ross, according to a person familiar with the negotiations.

A Monday Dolphins news release said there would be a Thursday morning ”major announcement on behalf of the Dolphins” hosted by the Estefans and Ross at LandShark Stadium. This is similar to the way the Dolphins announced their association with singer Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville business, which includes Land Shark Lager. Buffett is expected to become a minority owner eventually.

Just a quick note before heading back to work. I have a 3 am conference call – 9 am in DC – so I decided to skip going to bed until after the call, but I have to be at a meeting at 8 am in downtown Honolulu concerning next week’s fund-raiser for the Falls of Clyde so I really won’t be getting much sleep.

A couple of sorta sports-related items:

First, the Stadium Authority meets this Thursday. The agenda lists the following items under Unfinished Busines: IVB – UHAD Fees Committee – report on investigative committeefindings on the fee structure for UHAD events; IVC – Update from Comptroller Russ Saito on the Stadium Repair Work Project or any update involving Aloha Stadium.

Perhaps Kazz should attend the meeting so that he can update folks here on the blog.

Second, evening parking rates at UH-Manoa will be rising effective July 1. Take advantage of the discounted semester parking passes if you are planning to attend any of the court sports or next year’s baseball or softball games. Fee information should be out shortly.

    pretty excited about spain.

hoping some OTs and DTs start coming in. we’re at about 8-9 recruits now since its known that lister and loeffler will greyshirt. not sure who else will greyshirt from last year’s class.

i think another thing mack needs to do is adjust his 3-5 year board mid-season based on how the team is performing. if there is a position underperforming, we’ll need to hit the mid-year JC transfers again. cant blow our entire load early unfortunately, unlike texas and the big time bcs schools.

Garret ~ Thanks for your constant stream of interesting news items. Could you track down how it is that Notre Dame has just received over 2 Billion dollars in funds for their school? I heard it on a news station, but didn’t catch all the details. That’s a ton of money!

    Meanwhile:

➡ How do we attract crazy money like that? Here we are having to raise our parking rates to make small change at the UH. Sheesh! What a nickel & dime operation!

➡ Got a ticket office that doesn’t know how or when to sell tickets.

➡ Sales of student activity books are too hard for UH grads in economics to figure out.

➡ Rainbowtique can’t make profit because they don’t offer enough inventory. Whatever you are looking for, you can bet they don’t have it in your size. Never enough fresh graphic designs to choose from, and they don’t provide much to the local retailers for sale.

➡ Perhaps our new president can sort thru this laundry list and make some changes.

➡ Maybe she can find out why previous donors have been so quiet, and new donors are not stepping up.

➡ Do UH presidents every give a ‘State of the University’ report?

I now return you to your regular Sunrise programing. Have a nice Tuesday and don’t SPILL, I just mopped! (My mom’s favorite 2 minute warning!).
