Defense rules
The Warriors finished their offseason conditioning program with shambattle games in Gym I this morning. Strength coordinator Tommy Heffernan arranged the games. Volleyballs were used. And a team’s prisoners were freed if a throw dislodged an exercise ball placed atop the rim of a basketball net. The defense won two of three games. “This helps a little,” said defensive tackle Rocky Savaiigaea, whose team finished second in the Super Games competition that ended Wednesday.

Former UH football player Khevin Peoples is ready for the next level.
He is enlisting in the Air Force.
“I have one more test,” said Peoples, who played running back and safety for the Warriors. “Hopefully, I swear in next week.”
Peoples said he made his decision two days after earning his bachelor’s degree the past December.
“This is what I want to do,” he said. “Football is cool. But I want something bigger than that. I want to serve and protect my country. The Air Force is a career.”

A coach said Blaze Soares is indeed expected to be medically cleared in late April. Soares is running, but is not participating in unsupervised workouts. The coach squashed rumblings about Soares’ health.

Happy birthday to Dara “PowderPuff” Young.
GO PEOPLES!
Happy Birthday again Dara oh so Young! Nice hair!
homey…good morning! 🙂
Good morning duffer and the rest of the cyber community!
You’re up pretty early, Homey.
Best wishes to Khevin Peoples in his new career!
I can see Peoples being in the Air Force Special Operations Command.
Happy Birthday PowerderPuff!
ST,
Thank you for the update on Blaze. I’ve been really worried about his status and hope that he’s healthy for the upcoming season.
ST – I get up around 4:30 every morning…
Happy Birthday PowderPuff
Good luck to Blaze, hopefully he stays injury free and can give us the “IMPACT” we sorely need from him on D this year!
With a Bachelor’s degree People’s should go the officer route and become a pilot.
“Give me that filet-o-fish, give that fish.”
oops, give me that fish…
Good Morning Tsaikos!!
Happy Birthday Powder Puff!!
ST – what’s with her mouth always being WIDE OPEN??
Auryte, so now that JoPierre Davis is pretty much history…and JB Bryant pretty much has a stronghold on one side, who are the likely candidates to breakout and secure the otherside? Our secondary seems sketchy with no proven game time experienced guys back there. I hope Coach Tormey and Coach Miano can rectify this situation quick. I’m thinking Spencer Smith will get more PT this year. Wassup with Chris Black? Will Lametrius Davis, Tank Hopkins, or any newbies be ready to go and step up. Everyone else on the roster is young and unproven yet, any possible guys ready to break into the rotation???
i’m hoping for those kahuku dbs to play….have excellent size/speed
Some days you want to be the shave ice.
Thank you, Tsai-kos, for all the birthday wishes. I’m so blessed to be part of your gang — you guys and gals are a terrific bunch. The b-day comes at such a fun time year for sports lovers. I remember going to a UH game against Long Beach State years ago…was it the NIT? Memory getting fuzzy. Go ‘Bows/Warriors!!!!
But on a sobering note, as wafan said, it is the 6th anniversary of the Iraqi invasion. I salute Mr. Peoples and all the men and women who make sacrifices everyday for the rest of us.
no forget the condensed milk on top….
Good Morning Tsaikoland!
Happy Birthday PowderPuff!
Thank you K. Peoples for chosing to protect and serve our country.
And a big Mahalo to those who are currently serving and those who have served and protected in the past.

Researchers made a Twitter worm that could spread virally (via Twitter) and allow hackers to take control of victims’ computers! Part of the problem is that Twitter’s 140 character limit makes users use tinyurl, so victims have no idea if they are clicking on a malicious link.
Hauoli Lahanau PowderPuff!
God Bless and Godspeed to Khevin Peoples!

Former Rainbow basketball player was mentioned in this article on the NCAA tournament.
Fox might sell this year’s BCS TV rights to ESPN, since ESPN seems willing to pay $45 million more for the TV rights than Fox paid.
Frank25,
I’m glad you are safe and thank you again for your service to our country.
Frank25 ~ Don’t forget to ‘break starch’ for the next mission and…put on your dress blues, tennis shoes, and a light coat of oil on dat weapon soldier!

The Happiest of Birthdays to PowderPuff on this beautiful First Day of Spring Morning!
ST-
Thanks for the career updates. Kinda interesting to see what kind of career choices and adventures everyone makes/takes. And thanks for the updates on Blaze.
Hi Frank25-
Good to hear from you.
Hey Frank! How’s you? Say hi to Tino from Uncle. When do you guys get to come home?
Ya know, since this is the Warrior Beat, mebbe we could have regular posts dedicated to updating us on the careers/plans of Warriors from past teams. I sometimes wonder what certain players are up to and how they’re doing.
The info on Peoples was great example.
“a great example” I meant to say…
Colomaohana: char siu and roast pork…OMG..miss that soooo much…for some reason they dont have a china town here..hahaha well there not into pork anyway…there problem…
Garret: Hi bro…thank you for your support…
Kekoa: whats up my Hawaiian friend…got my running shoes ready…i only need my weapon but…not too much oil..bar-b-que in Vegas….

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO POWDERPUFF!
JM,
It was a last minute thing when I decided to go to UH after work. I walked in just as the first set was ending so I was able to catch quite a bit.
I sat a few rows behind the band and to the left of the cheerleaders and men volleyball players in attendance.
I tried to scan the crowd for TSAIKOS but to no avail. Good exhibition though and yes BOTH teams looked a bit sluggish.
***For those that weren’t there.
Quick recap of the Wahine Volleyball exhibition against Nebraska last night.
Crowd notes:
-75% of the lower bowl filled. Given paid attendance at just over 1,800.
-About 50 Nebraska fans in attendance and they all looked irritated every time the UH cheerleaders (not performing but in the student section) kept chanting “hit the net” while the Huskers were serving.
-Plenty of UH students/student athletes in attendance.
Wahine team notes:
-If anyone doubts Ferrell’s broken ankle, it ain’t in a medical boot but a true full on hard cast.
-Stephanie Brandt is NOT a middle blocker. She will maintain the same role she did. She remains a good defensive player and a good motivator on the court for the team. Looks like Mafua will continue to be our setter this year.
-Brittany Hewitt looked good at her debut at middle blocker and got a good amount of playing time as did Emily Maeda in the back row in which she looked solid.
-Jayme Lee showed what kind of libero she can be. She had some excellent digs keeping several rallies alive leading to several kills for the Wahine. After years on the bench, her senior year will be her last chance to shine.
-Jamie Houston had a nice solo block in which she shadowed a Nebraska player and it almost seemed choreographed between the two opposing players, but overall she didn’t play much. Most of her playing time came in the final fourth set after we won the third set.
-I have to say this again, Amber Kaufman has to be one of my favorites. Even from last year I always liked how she wore her game emotions on her sleeve, sometimes a little too much. She had a service error, then subbed out, walked to the bench, got handed a towel, and just threw it to the floor immediately. Now this is an exhibition match, but that IS NOT “sulking” folks, to me that is genuine competitive fire and desire. I think this team will live and die on her shoulders this year.
***For the players I didn’t mention either I didn’t notice anything outstanding or bad, just about the same. Again it was an exhibition match so it’s hard to gauge what kind of Rainbow Wahine team I saw last night and the same goes for the opponent.
I saw Ray Hisatake, Raphel Ieru, John Estes, and Brashton Satele in attendance last night as well.
What happened to Inoke? Wasn’t he the “event coordinator” for the football players a few years ago at the Wahine Softball home games?
I thought he led the way for the football players to support their fellow Warriors and Rainbow Wahine?
Frank25 I feel your heat so I will host many beeru for you dis weekend
I thought powderpuff birthday was yesterday? happy birthday again, now you are one year older than you think you are
Pitt is in a tough game against E Tenn St. Not the typical 1/16 game. up only 4 w/ 530 left
Happy bifday to Dara with many more to come!
West Virginia goes down to Dayton. Doesn’t help the brackets at all since I had them winning the next round also. Damn!!
kk: me too…just for Frank25. I feel its my duty.
Good on ya Kazz! Excellent observation of the game.
I wanna add one more thing about Amber’s competitive fire. As you described, she slammed her towel to the floor immediately upon receipt. She was walking away from your vantage point and heading in our direction. We could see that ‘look’ on her face. It was one of fierce determintion to give someone a 100 Mph *facial* on the next short set!
The key to a good offense all starts with precise passing to where your setter’s area of operation is determined to be. Therein lies the basic problem.
If the setter gets that perfect set, the pre-set play she called will generate several options for her to execute. So in the blink of a Homey Hot Flash, she is dealing out the best set ever! Brandt & Mafua are still a bit rusty. Their sets were sometimes too ugly for even Halloween consumption. Part of the reason was the bad passes to them.
jm2375 may have a different interpretation because she saw the game from Jayme Lee’s level…ground floor!
My personal Happy Birthday Wishes to the Powderpuff Princess! I have declared the celebration to continue on the ceded lands from today until midnite on Sunday. (An extension may be submitted before close of business today).
Weight training is very important to every athlete, but is the current philosophy for training correct?
Let’s see, individual lifts weight, very heavy weights, but the weights are “static” or no move against the lifter; just “dead” weight. This would make you a very strong construction worker or coffin bearer.
For Football, your opponent (oline or dline) is constantly pushing against you or moving to avoid your block. Thus, if you consistently weight train using “static” princilples, how is this a benefit to you?
Surely, there is someone out there who has “different” principles in mind or is actually using them to make linemen better. Or, will trainers continue to use the “traditional” methods so soothe/please others (including coaches)?
Therefore, is it better to concentrate on “static training” so the strength to push against a double or triple-team will make one a better lineman or constatnly train against double/triple team blocks?
Can one be slow, but have quick feet? or, can one be fast, but have slow feet?
Criticism is like going to the toilet, just pull your pants down and let it flow. Constructive criticism, on the other hand, is……………….!
A-House:
Actually, there’s a person here who uses the urinal that way, which is sort of a jolting sight when you walk into the bathroom.
Col A House, you always on the alert. same question is “why does a boxer skip or jump rope?” does he do any jumping when boxing?? no, but speed, quickness, conditioning, and strength of his lower body is determined by his leg work, so speed skipping or jumping is necessary. Can our fb players do speed skipping or jumping to help them with their leg work?? definitely yes!!! but is this part of their training??? i don’t know, but i have never seen many fb players good at speed rope.
I want a filet o fish!
Happy Birthday Dara!
before i forget, good day to all of our tsaikos.
A-House, Whitey:
The players do plyometrics, which are jumping exercises.
They also do resistance training.
afternoon gang!
i remember shambattle from summer fun days
Stephen – #95, tmi
hi jojo ® !
ST…
Please confirm whether Les Soloai is back on the team since he is now listed on team roster on UH website…
http://www.hawaiiathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5402&path=football
Mahalo!
Does anyone know how the kickball tournament went??
BaseBows leading against UDub 7-5, Bottom of the 9th.
UDub is designated the home team, so they’re trying to make a comeback. Bows bringing in Sam Spangler. 1 out in the inning.
whitey:
I too have never seen a wide receiver or running back excel at jump rope.
sorry ST, but I don’t know the principles behind “plyometrics” and what exercises are associated with it. Is it like “high stepping” through the ropes? Why can’t jump rope be included in the speed/quickness training for the receivers and running backs. This is something they can do on their own at their leisure.
can you illucidate on “resistance training”? The only ones I see are at 24Hour Fitness and all the trainer does is tell the person to lean against a wall or pull on the fixed machines bolted to the cement floor.
Afternoon Tsai-kos!!
Kekoa – #93 haha. I remember Amber being very upset when she hit a serve into the net, slammed the ball down and sort of stalked off to the corner. I saw Shoji get up and try to calm her down. Actually I was a bit surprised she was there since track season is in full swing.
One thing was evident last night though. UH needs more height in the front row.
Late for next meeting. back later.
Kazz- mahalo for the WVB report!
Hi Frank25 (as he disappears in a whoosh…)
Good to have curveball around again!
Big C- bwahahaha!
jojo – tomorrow is fish day… or any lunch day. 😉
WHOOSH!
BaseBows in trouble. UDub scores 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th to tie it up, 7-7.
This one’s going into extra innings. Keep in mind the Bows have to play Portland after they finish this game.
leaving smithys = good move
stretch, ur #26,
sorry..just qued back in..I meant was that a biiiiig shave ice cone o’what???…..not sayin anything bout da mouth…bwaaaaahahaha!!
Dayton crushed one leg of my bracket!
Come on BaseBows!
Going into extra innings will not help the baseball team as far as pitching. I think they will be thin considering they have 5 games in 4 days.
mctruck – okay, just checking…. hahaha
My ultimate sleeper lost too, I really liked North Dakota State. 🙁
I like the new photo of PowderPuff above. 🙄
Can we use it as a Tsai-ko shot glass advertisement? 😆
top of the 10th, Rainbows score 2 runs. 9-7. going into bottom 10th now.
Wow, sham battle with volleyballs can be “smart”. In summer fun, the volleyballs were old and “well-oiled” making ’em kinda heavy. Sow-ahhhh wen you get beaned with dat!
Jason,
I saw that. Boy if that worked out for you, “sky’s the limit”!
controversial end of the game but Rainbows win!!
BaseBows pull off the victory against UDub in the 10th inning.
9-7.
The Portland Pilots are next. Game should start in ~30 minutes.
Kekoa,
RE: Amber Kaufman
I think it has to do with her personality. Not to say those players that seem more reserved on the outside aren’t feeling intense, but sometimes you got to let it out. How many times have we seen Kaufman get the ball back after a service error and slams it to the floor and the thing bounces to the height of the scoreboard.
This year is her last year and I will never forget her 12 service ace performance against Washington last season when we were down 2 sets to none and we came back and won it. I remember sitting near SJMacro and Myki and I thought Jerry was going to jump the railing and join the Wahine on the sidelines!
Also who can deny her ability as an all around athlete. Her accomplishments on the track are quite impressive too.
When this season is done a player and a personality like her’s will be missed much like the jovial and relaxing presence Tara Hittle gave us over the years.
Speaking of liberos, just based on last night’s heroics by Jayme Lee, I think she has the edge over Ka’aihue thus far, but as Coach Shoji said, everything opens up in the fall. May the best Wahine win!
Good to get the car work finished and then enjoying some good ‘ol breakfast food for lunch.
Not much shoppers in Wal-Mart today but there sure were a lot of women with kids. I was tempted to ask them if they know Esme.
Aloha Frank25!
Big C – You are in fine form today. And so is your humor! 😆
Hisatake is looking good.
Some days you wish you were a Tsaiko shot glass…
A nap sounds good.
A-House – A wise o-lineman told me resistance bands are highly used in the pros. I wouldn’t doubt the same principles are being used at the college level for all sports. Jump rope is good for cardio work, coordination, timing, and muscle toning. If you want speed and quickness, you gotta to explosive exercises. Bulla mentioned some of the things one can do a few months ago.
i am very happy to see ikaika mahoe number 75 back on the uh football roster.and number 57 les soloai.
DPK – Tino is going to Disney World with his family when he goes on R & R in June…FYI
Hi Tsaikos everywhere!
Frank25…man that guy is always beating me to post nowadays. He’s in dream land right now though.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DARA!! Hope you have an excellent one!
Happy Birthday to Dara
Howzit, Rob25!!!
homey: PLEASE! I’m in fine form everyday…Psht!
A House… I’ve started following conditioning techniques from Core Performance (Pro and Draft trainers, have a website and books). They emphasize training movement over individual muscles. Explosive movement and working the muscles you use at the end of a movement, when you might be out of position or off balance. Like you’ve suggested, linemen aren’t playing in a gym with a controlled situation. They are getting banged around, double teamed, etc.. Being able to use your strength in the heat of battle is whats important.
BaseBows now playing Portland.
The Pilots have knocked up Jared Alexander for a couple runs so far in the 2nd. The Bows are designated as the home team for this game.
Good luck Khevin Peoples.
“They took the blue from the skies and the pretty girls eyes and a touch of old glory too.
And gave it to the men who proudly wear the UH AirForce blue.”
RE: Khevin Peoples.
Now there is a young man who seems to have a good grip on his life and the choices he makes.
Best to you and your future braddah!
Mahalo for all you gave to Warrior Football!
BaseBows playing like they don’t want to play this game. Should note that they are designated as the home team, even though it is Portland that is hosting the tournament.
Pilots lead 7-1, bottom of the 3rd.
😯
The way we’ve been hitting we can’t count ourselves out just yet. But geez…
I’m assuming Alexander got yanked. Who’s pitching for us now? Connor Little?
Kazz — Yep. Alexander got yanked after 2.2 innings and 7 runs. Alex Capaul is in.
Pilots lead 7-1 top of the 4th.
Make that 8-1 Pilots.
Now 10-1 Pilots.
Check that. 12-1 Pilots.
yikes, mercy!
Are the basebows each playing with his dominate arm tied behind his back?
Did anyone listen to the song? I thought it was very simple but had a great message!!! Do not let the title scare you.
I think Trapasso is throwing in the white flag now, given the various substitutions he’s been making with the infield/outfield players.
Now 13-2 Pilots. Top of the 5th.
At least they others are able to get playing time. Not exactly the best scenario, though.
I guess the let down after the first game was huge!
I hope it snows before the 5, game called, start over tomorrow…:)
Oddly, no snow in the forecast.
Khevin Peoples good luck and thank you for spending your grid years in Hawaii…the memories and friendship you experienced in Hawaii will last a life time…You’ll be rewarded with a college degree in May and a future in the Air Force, thank you again for your commitment to Hawaii and our country- Mahalo and Aloha…
Sorry Ralph, the game’s already in the top of the 6th.
Jason you were really reaching with South Dakota State, time to switch majors and become a statistician and learn the odds and probability of an under dog winning
Holy cow… I actually started laughing with the baseball score updates.
STILL CAN BRAH!!! STILL CAN!!!
Ok maybe not tonight. Salvage what you can, and get ready for tomorrow!
Auryte! ‘zona comes through! Back in the hunt!
Big hill to climb for the BaseBows 🙁
Ok let’s save Connor Little for the next game… a fresh start on the mound.
I like this kid. Great potential for us in the future.
Ralph,
In Jason’s defense, L&L were on that game as a possible shocker this morning. In a contest format like this you gotta lay out a few shockers in the hopes of pulling away from the crowd.
I’m not sure that Pops or Kanoa woulda put ’em in the Sweet 16! but Kanoa did spend some time hyping No. Dakota St.’s chances in the opening round(s).
Agreed, Kazz. Would rather save the arms and starting players for tomorrow’s matchup against Oregon and whoever they end up facing on Sunday.
Just to think that up until today the BaseBows have been in the Top 20 in both SOS and simulated RPI. They have the rest of this weekend’s tourney plus Oregon State and the four-game home series against ranked Coastal Carolina before the beginning of (the RPI killing) WAC play.
A-House, there are a few experts on training techniques. As Kaimiloa said, Mark Verstegen from Core Performance is one of them. Todd Marinovich’s dad Marv Marinovich is another one. Marv trains Troy Polamalu in Portland, Oregon. Marv uses training balls, medicine balls, kettle bells, converted weight machines. Like Homey says, athletes also use elastic bands, balance boards, chutes, and many other props to help enhance athleticism.
Our own Tsaiko Bulla is pretty familiar with all of these training methods and has been using them on a special project that he has been involoved in for the past six years or so.
A-House, you are right about static weight training. That’s why the bench press at the combine doesn’t make much sense. It doesn’t give you nice looking arms though.
Pride,
Is there some organization out there that can teach these methods to those that want to teach it to others in the future?
Kazz,
I’m hoping that locally that organization is called the University of Hawaii Football Team
Man, I hope Wake Forest doesn’t think they are playing the Cavs instead of Cleveland State!
Wake Up!
(anyone wanna venture a guess about one of the two teams in my bracket Final?)
Happy 1st birthday Lilu!!!
Welcome to Hawai’i!!!
Oh, welcome to mom and dad!!!
And sister and brother-in-law from Florida!!!
Nice little family reunion. Have fun!
Touche D1! Touche! 😆
speaking of weight training:
no mess wit Powderpuff before she get all “Vili” on you!
A-Joe,
Ahem… “she kona ket Vili wichu”.
Kazz,
😆
You gotta write one book someday!
It’s been a tough couple of days for Bulla Ginlack.
First his car gets “tagged.”
Today he got smacked in the face by a volleyball thrown by a d-tackle.
I suppose the key stat would be how far away was the DT?
Ralph: It’s North Dakota State. And hey, I thought they could be this year’s Cinderella. Gotta gamble if you want to win a bracket tourney. Anyways, I’m still doing alright with the rest of the stuff. 🙂
Happy birthday Dara!
And I mentioned before about the series on the run and shoot. Here’s part two, The Seam Read and the “Go” Concept:
http://smartfootball.blogspot.com/2009/03/run-and-shoot-series-part-2-seam-read.html
It’s a great article, although if you’ve been studying the R&S for a while, it’s mostly stuff you should already know.
Regarding #94 post, there is a guy out there who has different strength training techniques, his name is Fudge Fajardo of Fudge’s Gym!!
His techniques were used on many players!!
Maybe 10 yards.
It was that new guy. David I-can’t-remember-his-last-name.
Oh yeah, and UH doesn’t offer a degree in statistics. I’ve taken all of the “essential” courses for those interested in statistics for a career, however.
I think it’s interesting every year that the selection keeps favoring the big conferences, yet all the fans want to root for are the Cinderellas.
The BCS could learn a lesson from the NCAA basketball tournament.
Career in Statistics? How you figgah? 😈
Oh, 10 yards. Not so bad.
I thought was going be like 30 feet or something!
Cleveland State keeps fighting back.
Is that the sound of my bracket crumpling?
Time for a nap…. 🙁
C’mon, Cleveland State! (I have them going all the way … to the next round.)
rich2176, sideline is fine with me!
aloha WARRIORS AND EVERYONE!
MANEO !!!
If I was Coach Mac, Blaze Soares shouldn’t do any contact drills. Soares should just take it easy, do his conditioning drills, work on the weights, watch practices and take mental reps. The coaches already know what he can do. We need him to be “on” the field in September.
Because he didn’t play at all last year I really believe that his not playing cost UH 2 football games. Blaze has that much impact on the team. I’m telling you this guy is a game changer. That’s all I want to say. Blaze, stay healthy.
Some interesting games on.
Siena/Ohio St. going into 2 OT.
Wisky/Florida St. in OT.
Cleveland St. upsets.
CRW,
My bracket is looking very, very RED 🙁
d1,
You watching the Siena/Ohio St. game? WOW!!!!!!! My bracket is getting pretty red too, but it looks like I still get chance to win, assuming nothing worst results like, say, UNC losing to LSU in the next round.
On Wisconsin!
On Wisconsin!
CRW,
My bracket is now a projectile! 👿
d1,
How unfortunate. 😈
Off to work. Whoooooosh!!!!!!!!
Time to check for cracks.
d1 and CRW – my South bracket looks really red, but overall, I’m 21 for 32 heading into the 2nd round. How da he$$ did BC lose?
wafan,
hmmmm…maybe start by looking back?
heheheh
jm25or6to4,
Check da stats!
heheheh
jm867-5309,
At least you still get 4 regions!
Really Last-Minute Karaoke Call
Cydnee (Peaches’ daughter) just called and said she and Amanda want to go to Genji’s tonight and would we join them? Mom is tired but can’t refuse so said 8:30 PM…
Called Gaye, but the small private room is booked tonight. But she’s giving us the Matsu private room. So, lots of room for the Tsingers. Come down anytime!
Wayne O,
I’m with you on Blaze Soares. I wouldn’t say that he would’ve won us an additional 2 games. I think his presence on the field would’ve inspired the defense to play hard and hit with emotion. He probably would have gave us a better chance of winning more games. Nothing against Solly, Adam, or Brashton…but Blaze plays with so much intensity and emotion it hypes everybody up and makes you want to smash heads! There are certain players with that kind of ability…guys like Ray Lewis in the NFL…and my boy Chad Owens too. When you watch them play the bring so much intensity and passion to the game it makes errybody go nawts! One game that piss me off the most was losing to Utah St., that was frikkin embarrassing. I know if we had Blaze playing, he would have not allowed our D to get embarrassed like that!
ST,
Wasn’t David Hafoka ah???
Pauoa Boy start recruiting Khevin peoples for the marines, he only gave his verbal commitment, he hasn’t signed his hard copy and probably never got to do his five visits to every branch
anyone at vb…isn’t new jersey tech in dIII. i’ve seen the name in dIII soccer play offs at seasons end where there’s a national bracket of champs and at large teams
They are in the process of moving to Division I from Division II. The move is complete next school year, 2009-2010.
Shawn Withy-Allen is playing QB again this season! Congratulations to Shawn on his marriage and it is good to know that his main job is being a Christian youth minister.
I think it was KapoleiDoc who asked about former UH players. Here is one player I haven’t heard about in awhile. Warren Tauanuu is playing on the DL for the Alaska Wild in the Indoor Football League.

According to this article, the third biggest draft need for Miami is a for a LB. Miami plans to draft a player who played DE in college and convert him to an OLB in their 3-4 defense. This explains Miami bringing in David Veikune and a few other DEs that are projected for the 2nd or 3rd round for an interview.
Miami’s management is also looking at the Cincinnati DE that played against the Warriors late last season.
The NCAA is looking at the practice of using experienced coaches as graduate assistants, which even UH used with Reinbold and others. They are also looking at cracking down on the extra “non-coaches” that have roles like recruiting coordinator and director of player development…which wouldn’t be good for UH because I really like the job that Tony Tuioti is doing for UH! I guess it would save lower-budgeted schools like UH because they can only afford one (or none in many cases) of these extra positions while big budget schools can have multiple extra coaches.
We see how great of a job Tony Tuioti can do, and ST mentioned that UH was trying to hire Doris also to help with the program. Just imagine other schools that can afford 2 or more of these positions and you can see how the lower-budgeted schools would want all of these positions eliminated. On one hand that makes sense and would level the playing field for UH…on the other hand, Tony Tuioti is doing a great job for UH!
The NCAA is going to look at passing rules to end these extra “non-coaching” positions…

US submarine and a US amphibious ship collided near Iran with 15 sailors from the sub injured.
7.9-magnitude earthquake hit Tonga–fortunately they were able to call off the tsunami warming, but there are worries about what the earthquake did to the erupting underwater volcano nearby. If there is a large amount volcanic ash spread underwater due to the earthquake, it would kill all underwater life in the area.
Nearly $200k of the $810k this emergency service group in North Dakota got to fight bioterrorism and natural disasters was spent on unallowable or questionable expenses such as alcohol! They aren’t sure how they will pay the money back because their normal budget for an entire year is less than $200k.
Two Australian students figured out a way to use a hairdryer to be able to get fingerprints from paper that current techniques are unable to extract.

Regarding #194
Did the East Oahu Sun mention where we are going to get the $800 plus million to build the infrastructure and new stadium in Kapolei? My guess is it will take eight to ten years to complete the entire rail route. Until it is complete traffic will be a huge problem. In the mean time we need Aloha Stadium to be repaired. I know some people think it’s a waste of money, but if you read the report on the Aloha Stadium from 2005 the $100 million plus that will be spent on repairs is needed now just to keep things operational and safe. In other words even if we started to plan for a new stadium now, Aloha Stadium will still have to be repaired unless we plan to cancel one or two UH football seasons while a new stadium is being built. And then we come full circle to the same problem, where are we going to get the $800 plus million.
Wow, this year’s Song Contest was amazing! I really liked the hō‘ike.
ST
Check your voicemail sir.
it was the Tundakatz’s turn. Jantz, a switch-hitter, batted left-handed during regulation. But he struggled in that appearance because he faced the rising sun. This time, he batted right-handed. He clobbered the winning homer, triggering a wild celebration. Aterward, the Tundakatz team, began singing “We Are The Champions.”
Happy Birthday Powder Puff!
Frank25, it’s nice to have you back! Mahalo for all that you do!

Answering your facebook comment about practicing your Deutsh, here’s my question. I don’t happen to know of any place where they feature it.
Wo kann ich Deutsch Essen?…(bitte!)
I think the mid-west did in a lot of people!! When is the second round pick going to be?
Jason no feel to bad both my Cinderella’s turn out to be the wicked witch of the west and south LOL
Fricken West Virginia and Wake Forest is killing me. Hopefully some of my 2nd round picks come in.
Pomai: You were supposed to make all the picks before the tournament, all the way to the championship game. It doesn’t go round by round!
But after the second round, we’ll start a “Second Chance” tournament. Same thing, though, you need to pick all of the games through the championship.
Stretch – At least you won couple of games, I lost every one of my picks for today.
Whoa Stretch, up late ah!
Jason when I wen pick them it never let me go any further than the first round. Oh well that’s ok, I ain’t to good with basketball anyway.
Speaking of which, isn’t there a rule about walking with the ball? I watched a few college and NBA games and if that rule was enforced then these guys could never play.
Pomai: For real? Wow, that’s junk. Well, hopefully the second chance league will work for you.
Traveling, palming, hand checking, hooking. When you sit right behind the basket, a few feet from the action, you see SO many infractions not get called. chawan_cut knows … 😀
chawan only watches the refs and the rainbow dancers, he misses most of the game action
Wait a sec…..
chawan_cut isn’t watching the refs the same way he’s watching the Rainbow Dancers, right?
If so…..
anyone wearing orange watches both with the same intensity…..
Back from Genji’s. Getting too old to keep up with the 24 year old gals.. .and they sing a different genre, but Peaches’ daughter Cydnee and friend Amanda sound good. They were to shy to sing until most people left at the las vegas Karaoke Call (their pix are there).
Peaches wore her Jagermeister shirt. Discovered Amanda is a long time Bomber herself. Bottom line: I did the driving home 😐 and we have another Tsinging Bomber recruit for Lyn.
Goodnight everyone.
BTW, found two backup singers for ST and the sleepy lion. Simply trilling! Very!
hey now…. no wonder my ears were itchy!!!!
o’chawan – no worries. come ova and i make your ears feel betta.

Very thanx dude for giving the suggestion about the in details about the defense rules of football with good illustrated photos.
I agree with you that self defense is very important for everyone in the every sphere of life like game, life, job etc.
I would reconsider that line of coaching, as those children are too young for strategy and tactics. Coaching at the U-6 level should be aimed secondarily at the most basic of ball skills, and primarily at having fun so they will develop a love of the game.
i am also learning the defense rule and but this is not game it is a judo and karate and some what gym for making strong body.
Thinking about the defense rule is really very important if this is not proven most probably game can be lost
thanks for giving me chance of expression.
