Maui scrimmage is April 11

From Derek Inouchi:

The University of Hawai‘i Athletics Department has announced plans for a football scrimmage on Maui and details for next month’s “Warrior Bowl,” which culminates spring practice.
On Saturday, April 11, the Warriors will fly to Maui to hold an intrasquad scrimmage at the War Memorial Stadium beginning at 11:00 a.m. (tentative), followed by an autograph session on the field.
No state funds will be used to pay for the trip and donations from McDonald’s and Oceanic Time Warner Cable, as well as support from Hawaiian Airlines and Panda Travel, and in-kind support from the County of Maui will cover the expenses.
The “Warrior Bowl” intrasquad scrimmage will be held at Aloha Stadium on Saturday, April 25, at 3:00 p.m. Prior to the game, McMackin and several UH football players will be available for autographs and photos from 1:00-2:30 p.m. on the South Endzone concourse. Fans are encouraged to bring their cameras and items to sign. Parking is $1 and fans can enter through Gate 4 beginning at 1:00 p.m. Admission is free.
Beginning at 3:00 p.m., the Warriors will play the four-quarter “Warrior Bowl.” Fans are invited to sit in the stands on the Makai side of the stadium.
The Warriors open spring practice Monday, March 30, at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletic Complex, which features a new artificial playing surface. UH has not practiced on the field since 2003.

The athletic department today honored Margie Okimoto, who is retiring after 41 years as the secretary to the athletic director. Among the luncheon guests were Bob Wagner, Vince Goo and Hugh Yoshida.

Here’s Vince Goo with his former basketball assistants, Da Houl and Serenda Valdez:

Last season, the Warriors missed Dennis McKnight’s loud, crazed-dog, manic coaching style. Maybe the new G.A. — Mike Smith — will fill that void.

* * *

For more than a month, Chris McLachlin has fretted over whether to announce the UH-Stanford telecast. McLachlin’s son plays for Stanford. Relax. McLachlin is a top analyst, and quite objective. He’ll do the telecast tonight, as he should. It actually would be a weird sight for McLachlin to be in the stands. He belongs on the mic.

When I was at UH 100 years ago, and Bulla can back me up on this, the students used to get sideline seats at Aloha Stadium.
Then they wanted to move the boosters in there, so gradually the students got moved to the side. And now the corner. Or the North end zone.
For too many years I’ve heard the students being threatened: Pony up student fees or we’re taking your seats and giving them to boosters.
    Guess what?
Just like Manny Ramirez’s phantom suiters, there are no other bidders. If you’re a booster and you want a good seat, there already are plenty available.
Why not go the other way? Tell students a fee gets you x-number of seats and, maybe, access to the weight room and pool, etc. But stop making empty threats.
Besides, UH doesn’t need the students’ approval on this. The chancellor or Regents can just impose a fee. What UH needs is the students’ suppoort. So it’s time to make nice-nice to the student body.

homey: Yeah, it’s a proposed $20 U-PASS fee. Right now, I pay $100 for five months of free bus service; they put a sticker on our student ID, and we get the same rights as anybody else with a bus pass. Considering an adult pass is $40 per month, it’s a good deal.

The thing about the proposed U-PASS is that TheBus gets a big bunch of cash up front; in return, we get added night service for the A and 4 routes, and possibly Wi-Fi on buses servicing the UH area. I think they also discussed realigning the bus schedule to better match typical class times.

  44. Paco February 26, 2009 11:42 am

ST – I agree re: students. One problem I’ve always had is the seeming lack of support and pride by my friends who are alumni (i’m not). I attributed that to the lack of effort on the part of the administration to involve the students and to grow that pride and love of UH. Ferd made a good point that todays students are tomorrows season ticket holders, donors and supporters. Who knows….there might be a future “Shidler” roaming the campus right now.

I can’t remember if I paid an Athletic fee when I was a student at UH. I paid an optional one in High School. Who knows how they’re going to fix this. Increase home pay-per-view games by 200%? Sell huli-huli chicken to pay for admin costs?

Maybe a Gold-level athletic fee for students that gives them discounted ticket prices in “good seats’, increased access to UH athletic facilities, discounts on UH apparel.Regular level athletic fee for students to have limited access to athletic facilities and 10-20% off regular ticket prices.

    Just an idea

  47. FloridaTed February 26, 2009 11:44 am

    Re: Student fees.

Donovan should just call a meeting with the student council and hash out their differences. He’s the kind of guy who can convince them that it will be in everybodies best interest.

Successful sports programs, especially in the major sports, raise national awareness of a University and, right or wrong, improves the overall image of any University and that’s good for everybody.

With his diplomatic and team building skills, I’m sure he’ll be able to build a bridge and find an acceptible compromise solution that will make all parties, if not happy, at least somewhat satisfied in its resolution.

  48. homey ℞ February 26, 2009 11:45 am

A-House ~ I’ll be very honest with you. When the SF is sailing on calm seas, the ride is really smoother than on the H-1 freeway! Take a test sail…they offer a special military discount. They even have the 2nd SF coming in. Soon we could be doing Kauai and Big Isle too!

So the trick is to pay attention to the 7 day weather forecast prior to sailing. Those that get motion sickness even in their bath tub can always fly over. No problem in that, as long as you get there for the party and the game.

Those that can make it, drive their vehicles on board – heavily laden – with stuff they can carry for others (get by the excess bag fare the airlines charge).

If we organize our load list like a special teams deployment, we can bring the essentials for our Maui T-gate in Stretch’s truck with Homey in the back feeding the fish along the way! Shoots! everything else we might need our Maui Chaptah can help us with.

    Go Warriors!

Welcome to the Warriors Mike Smith!

Coach Smith is definitely qualified and his NFL experience and his character (according to Mike Leach in the Advertiser today) makes it definitely seem like he’ll be a great asset to the Warriors. UH might eventually get more coaches through Mac’s ties with Texas Tech and Miami, as it is natural for head coaches to hire players and coaches they worked with before.

My only (very minor) concern is that I thought that the Wariors would add a GA who would work with the DL, as Ikaika Malloe worked with the DL before he left…and there are a lot of former UH DL who had a lot of success at UH and beyond and might have liked to break into coaching. But the GA position doesn’t pay much at all so maybe others weren’t interested, and UH still has Dave Aranda for the DL.

The NBA just got a big line of credit, which they used to give loans to 15 of their teams that are having trouble in the current economy. The players have guaranteed long-term contracts, so it isn’t like the team can easily cut expenses down…

The NBA is expected to borrow $175 million Thursday to help teams close operating losses brought on by the economic recession. UPDATE: The league said on Thursday that it borrowed an additional $25 million, bringing the total to $200 million.

The league will distribute the funds among 15 teams that requested them, with each team getting no more than $13.33 million. The borrowing, which is in addition to the $1.7 billion credit facility used by the league, comes as NBA teams are dealing with lower attendance and a loss of sponsorships.

Sad time in the newspaper industry. The Denver market couldn’t support two papers, so they suddenly announced that the Rocky Mountain News will close tomorrow. They were around for nearly 150 years, but they have been trying to find a seller since December and now have given up.

The Rocky Mountain News publishes its last paper tomorrow.

Boehne told staffers that the Rocky was the victim of a terrible economy and an upheaval in the newspaper industry.

“Denver can’t support two newspapers any longer,” Boehne told staffers, some of whom cried at the news. “It’s certainly not good news for you, and it’s certainly not good news for Denver.”

On Dec. 4, Boehne announced that Scripps was looking for a buyer for the Rocky and its 50 percent interest in the Denver Newspaper Agency, the company that handles business matters for the papers. The move came because of financial losses in Denver, including $16 million in 2008.

“This moment is nothing like any experience any of us have had,” Boehne said. “The industry is in serious, serious trouble.”

In the past decade, the Rocky has won four Pulitzer Prizes, more than all but a handful of American papers. Its sports section was named one of the 10 best in the nation this week. Its business section was cited by the Society of American Business Editors and Writers as one of the best in the country last year. And its photo staff is regularly listed among the best in the nation when the top 10 photo newspapers are judged.

Staffers were told to come in Friday to collect personal effects.

The San Francisco Chronicle might close soon also…in the best case scenario, their workers will take much bigger pay cuts than the Advertiser workers.

The Hearst Corp. today announced an effort to reverse the deepening operating losses of its San Francisco Chronicle by seeking near-term cost savings that would include “significant” cuts to both union and non-union staff.

In a posted statement, Hearst said if the savings cannot be accomplished “quickly” the company will seek a buyer, and if none comes forward, it will close the Chronicle. The Chronicle lost more than $50 million in 2008 and is on a pace to lose more than that this year, Hearst said.

The Chronicle, the Bay Area’s largest and oldest newspaper, is read by more than 1.6 million people weekly. It also operates SFGate, among the nation’s 10 largest news Web sites. SFGate depends on the Chronicle’s print news staff for much its content.

  103. Garret February 26, 2009 2:02 pm

    Jason,

Thank you for posting the Ka Leo article. It sure doesn’t sound like the ASUH feels any sense of urgency to help the athletics program! If they go at this slow pace before even starting to prepare the student poll they are requiring, then it will be 2 or 3 years before the athletics fee could be reviewed by the regents!

So, the students canceled the 2 meetings that they were supposed to meet with the Athletic Department and then they had a 3rd meeting where they formalized their opposition to an athletics fee!

“I specifically told the subcommittee that it could be more powerful if the students were polled, but we just don’t have that much time to get a referendum. … We can’t wait 12 to 18 months to get the results of a poll back.”

“We did exactly what (ASUH) told us to do,” Donovan said. “(They) canceled two subcommittee meetings and we tried calling and rescheduling, because we told them that it was very time sensitive for us and we wanted to try to get something to the regents by May or June so that it can be approved for September 2009.”

In a third meeting, the student Senate passed a resolution stating opposition to the implementation of the athletics fee.

  104. Colomaohana February 26, 2009 2:05 pm

Garrett: you think the NBA could borrow that from Shaq? Or maybe just have the highest paid player on each team sell one of their million dolla’ homes and put it in a kitty???

(J)James: Howzit! Yup, I was here earlier….but actually had to “work” for a bit before I come back to play in the Tsai-kos sandbox…

  105. homey ℞ February 26, 2009 2:11 pm

  107. Colomaohana February 26, 2009 2:13 pm

midori7: YES! Tasty Crust is da bomb!! Some “secret” recipe for da’ pancakes that they will not reveal….I’ve been trying since I was a little girl to find out, but no luck….. Those buggahs (the pancakes) are bigger than the plate it comes on (kinda’ like MAC 24/7, but not so much extras, and BETTER!)…the T-bone steak is ono too!

  108. Da Punchbowl Kid February 26, 2009 2:15 pm

Sorry to read about the ASUH’s response to the fee. They should get more constituent feed back before opposing the whole idea. The students on the news seemed to be flexible about it. The ASUH appears not to be.

  109. homey ℞ February 26, 2009 2:17 pm

Let’s see…pancakes…flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, milk, butter, and eggs. so simple! 😆

  110. Colomaohana February 26, 2009 2:17 pm

yes homey *twitch twitch*..it’s me!!! hahahaha..

  111. Garret February 26, 2009 2:17 pm

    DPK,

The ASUH wants more information from the Athletic Department, but they cancel the meetings when the Athletic Department is going to give them the information! So, now they can say that they haven’t met with JD and the Athletic Department…when that is the case because they were the ones canceling the meetings!

  112. Garret February 26, 2009 2:20 pm

    Colomaohana,

The NBA owners have much, much more money than the players! The owners also get to sell the team at huge profits when they get tired of owning it…the players only have short careers. If Portland is one of the teams getting a loan from the NBA, that would be pretty funny because they are owned by one of the richest people in the world…the team might be losing money but that owner won’t even feel that loss (especially compared to his other losses this year!).

  113. Ralph February 26, 2009 2:22 pm

redo the five year tuition plan, raise the tuition for in state residents equal to that of mainland school charging their in state residents…ASUH doesn’t want to contribute to the athletic fund and they don’t want to pay higher tuition but expect the taxpayer to fund their education with a larger share of the cost to run UH than the students attending the UH system. Then upper campus can contribute more to the athletic program.

  114. WarriorMojo February 26, 2009 2:22 pm

it was not 100 years ago, only 95 1/2 years ago…but yes, i vaguely remember the student section….hmmm, was that me or you in a toga outfit……either i was a toga guy or a lost monk, but Aloha Stadium was a big orange blur for me most of the time. must have been the glasses i wasn’t wearing then, couldn’t have been the bottles of evil juice found in the coolers in the parking lot…..no, not at all.

the thing i do remember at UH…..ST…..is you were always a hard worker,no really, when you were at Ka Leo, you would always be trying to get the story.

UH needs student support in the ‘meanest’ way, so i hope they can strategize to get the BOW-ZO’S’ back……..

Re- the UH financial/economic challenges – I’m thinking that Jim Donovan is doing his part to unite and inspire. Doing right by the students (for which ALL off this is set up to help) – and getting their acknowledgment and buy-in should lead to a win-win situation. The efforts need to be supported though.

Thinking only about money is not going to bring a long-term solution.

  216. Garret February 26, 2009 4:47 pm

  217. Garret February 26, 2009 4:47 pm

Happy that their sponsors will allow them to have a scrimmage and autograph session on Maui, JD said:
“We’re Hawai‘i`s Team, so we are thrilled that we’ve been able to partner with McDonald’s, Oceanic, Hawaiian Airlines, Panda Travel, and the County of Maui in making this outreach initiative a reality. Without their support, we would never have been able to take our football team to Maui and have the opportunity to interact with UH fans on a neighbor island.” (UH)

  218. Garret February 26, 2009 4:48 pm

Happy that the Warriors are going to Maui, Maui Mayor Charmaine Tavares said:
“There is a very loyal UH football fan base on Maui — there were a lot of home-based ‘tailgate’ parties going on in my neighborhood on game day! This will be an exciting opportunity for our youth, as well as our entire community, to experience Warrior football action here on Maui and I’m gratified that the County is able to help make this happen.” (UH)

  219. Garret February 26, 2009 4:48 pm

Happy to be a sponsor of UH’s Maui trip, Oceanic Time Warner Cable VP Norman Santos said:
“We’re pleased to provide funding for the UH football team’s trip to Maui for this scrimmage. The citizens of Maui will be able to meet Coach McMackin and the players in person and that will certainly get them excited about the 2009 season. Aside from O‘ahu, Maui has the most pay-per-view subscribers, so UH definitely has a big following there and I’m sure the fans will really appreciate the opportunity to spend some time with the Warriors.” (UH)

  220. Garret February 26, 2009 4:48 pm

Happy to be a sponsor of UH’s Maui trip, McDonald’s of Hawaii Region President Veronica Kaneko said:
”McDonald’s of Hawaii is a proud Corporate Partner of UH Athletics and we are happy to help support the team’s neighbor-island visit to Maui. In addition to assisting with the travel costs, we will also donate 300 Big Macs and bottles of water for the players and staff.” (UH)

  221. Garret February 26, 2009 4:49 pm

Happy that their neighbor island fans will be able to see the Warriors in person, Mac said:
“As I repeatedly tell our players, we represent the state of Hawai‘i. We’re very excited about scrimmaging on a neighbor island and allowing our fans on Maui to see us in person. We have many great fans there and this is our chance to thank them personally for their support.” (UH)

  222. Garret February 26, 2009 4:54 pm

Garret, sounds like they are students of the Herman Frazier school of management. Delay, deny. Delay, deny. Delay, deny.

    WarriorMojo,

I hate to compare any UH organization to HF…but this situation is a bad example of UH’s student leadership. They reject the student activity fee until they get more information from the Athletic Department…but they cancel BOTH meetings that were set up to get them the information!

They reject the student activity fee until a student poll takes place…but they drag their feet on setting one up and it won’t take place for 1-2 years! In other words, under the current situation they have postponed the Athletic Department support indefinitely!

The other problem with a student poll is that so few students vote in any election. With a limited student representation voting, it is easy for a faction (like the ones dragging their feet on this) to vote a measure down.

  223. LizKauai [Believer] February 26, 2009 4:54 pm

    Aloha, Tsaiko ohana.

Stepping out of the lurking shadows to respond to earlier comments about student support.

Today’s ASUH position is a big contrast to the early years at UH. When the old Honolulu Stadium was converted into a City park, I was at the University. It turned out that the ASUH owned a share of the stadium, having provided student fees to develop the Termite Palace. They got a payout from the acquistion of the land by the City.

In my experience, the people who run for and win the offices of the ASUH are not representative of most of the students, and often were very flaky. In my time, the turnout to vote for those offices was extremely low. Nobody cared who was Student Body President because ASUH had very little power to do anything. I doubt that any of that has changed much today. As was noted, the UH does not have to have approval of the ASUH to impose additional student fees.

Back to the outer reaches of lurkerdom, esme whoosh!!

  239. FloridaTed February 26, 2009 6:16 pm

    Lopaka 43,

I think you’ve hit the nail right on the head. Student support overall is sorely lacking and it’s quite obvious that ASUH is ran by a negative minded, polititical minority.

The UH leadership can bend over back wards and won’t get any reasonable support from this group either way. They won’t become future supportes anyway, but are rather obstructionists.

So, I would say to heck with them, if they chose to be like that, impose the fees and see what happens. It is my feeling that in the long run, we may end up with more student fans, than if we keep rolling out the red carpet for them and the few just spit on it.

When I saw all those empty, prime seats in the orange sidelines last season it pissed me off. Sell them to people who want to be there.

Just my angry two cents, from somebody who would love to be there.

  240. Kazz February 26, 2009 6:21 pm

The UH student body needs more UH sports fans like Jason, Chawan, and Kelli.

BHF2…he’s not a bad guy, but don’t like that he thinks women can’t handle, I would certainly like to see a man give birth in two hours with no drugs. Human race would cease to exist if it were up to men. Like his never give in spirit though…can do that without insulting womens’ ability to handle certain situations. It’s all good!!

  263. el guapo February 26, 2009 8:35 pm

In the days ST and Bulla refer to, it was $225 for tuition and $15.40 in fees, total $240.40. I think student season tickets were like $2 per game so total $16. Could buy books for $100 to 150 a semester. On a website I found, the inflation of $240 to today ranged from $625 to $1225 depending on the index used.

See how much students pay now

Undergrads pay $2976 in tuition and $163.70 in fees
undergraduate nursing students pay an additional $995 in fees
    undergraduate dental hygiene, $500 extra
    undergraduate business and architecture, $400

Jason, have you ever been able to buy a book for less than a hundred?

But the biggest reason for less student interest IMHO? The change in the law in 1986 that raised the drinking age from 18 to 21.

  264. Brie February 26, 2009 8:36 pm

    HO HOWZIT UNCLE!(:

Haha, for practice we’ve been practicing at UH for track the past two days and since I’m injured I sit w/ my friend (who’s manager) and watch people run and when that gets boring I watch the football players (:

Sorry I can’t really say who I saw, but I can describe them.. Tall, muscular, brown boys, high socks, and football cleats 😀
Most are looking prettay cherray, only one time the ball went fly at some runners on the other side. But they was throwing long anyways, so it’s all graavy. Bahahaha.

OH! & for all the DMS Monarchs out there-

Think the President would help a local boy with some Secret Service protection? All it takes is an Executive Order. 😀

  266. Kekoa February 26, 2009 8:41 pm

Just back from the *Secret* Pre-Grand opening of the Kapolei COSTCO. Wow!…Talk about really going all out! If they provide the same goodies for the general public tomorrow, they will have won the wallets of all the peeps on the Leeward coast.

No sales tonite, it was just a chance to walk the aisles and eat all the free fuud that they had out. It was very well planned as they had mebbe 100 workers catering the seperate food station scattered around the store.

At the Main station, you had a spread of local favorites such as teriyaki chicken, meatballs, pupu pups, rice, salads, veggie trays and jumbo shrimp cocktail.

At the next station you had a layout of Mexican rice, refried beans, taco shells, veggies, cheese, Arryoz Con Pollo (sp), chile colorado, shredded beef and those sugar cinnamon stick things.

Then of course there was more local style Hawaiian foods at another station. Back towards the snack bar they served Pizza slices of different types of Pizza including the combo with everything on it. Hot Dog. Kim Chee, Chilla-peppa water! Free Cokes with unlimited refills.

As you were sitting at a table in the snack bar area, and around the store, there were at least 2 dozen servers with trays of frozen yogurt of all different flavors and vanilla/chocolate and combo swirls of ice cream.

The Desert table had a layout of the grand opening cake plus a variety of pastries to die for. They even had these little bitty creme puff ‘bullets’ that were onolicious. The amazing thing was that there was no lines of people. By spreading the wealth, there was room for everyone to make a plate with out any stress…and one “to go” plate as well!

Hey! Like I said they really went all out to advertise themselves as a new neighbor that brought ther own welcome wagon into town.

  267. JaM February 26, 2009 8:42 pm

Hey, I told you I had special invite to this pre-opening celebration tonite! You should have stopped by the hale before heading home. Target coming up next week, standby.

  270. JaM February 26, 2009 8:52 pm

    hey Stretch…look is okay!

  271. Jason February 26, 2009 8:52 pm

Arroz con pollo! Hehe, I learned what that was from watching I Love Lucy as a kid.

Brie, how old are you again? 12? 13? Aren’t you a little young to be checking out college men? 😉

I bet she spent all day yesterday looking at those pics of Blount and Miah. Me, I was looking at the turkey meatloaf.

  272. Stretch February 26, 2009 8:53 pm

I am sure Dave Shoji can see weaknesses in the Hawaii game so I wonder if he told his sons all the things to look for??

  273. JaM February 26, 2009 8:53 pm

    Hi Kekoa,
Will be stopping by the Costco tomorrow!

  274. d1島 February 26, 2009 8:54 pm

  279. d1島 February 26, 2009 8:57 pm

    Rob25,

But not for their parents! A Stanford scholie is a nice thing (even a partial ain’t bad)

d! – At Stanford prices…a partial doesn’t help much…especially when you have two boys there. I agree…great for them.

  284. JaM February 26, 2009 9:00 pm

Uhmm if I really check out college guys I would be able to identify more of them…I’m like…he plays football or baseball but can’t remember their name…just like my students…remember their names based on what seat they’re sitting!

The City of Industry is going forward with plans to build a $800 mil football stadium…now, all they need is an NFL team that wants to move. The Chargers are nearby and will soon have no stadium to play in…

City Council members in the City of Industry unanimously approved a proposal Thursday for a pro football stadium intended to lure a team back to the Los Angeles area.

The vote helped clear the way for developers of the $800-million venue to begin talks with NFL teams about a possible move to the industrial and warehousing city 15 miles east of Los Angeles.

At least eight franchises, including the Oakland Raiders, Buffalo Bills and Minnesota Vikings, have been identified as possible targets for relocation, he said. Developers are confident the NFL would approve a move by a team, he said.

Nice story about parents working to make sure that their kids keep up with school. I love how the writer’s 7-year-old asked for a dog and he told her that she could have a dog when she published a paper in a peer-reviewed journal! Father and daughter worked together and 2+ years later they were able to get their dog.

Denver man was seriously injured when he pushed 3 people out of the way of a truck, possibly saving their lives. Instead of publicly celebrating his sacrifice, they gave him a jaywalking ticket! Couldn’t they have at least waited until he got out of the hospital before giving him the ticket?

Thot the people on the field might be playing intramurals. There were girls in one of the small gyms getting out an intramural game before the men’s VB. It’s cool if students, in general, can use Ching field. It is very “pretty” now.

um, what’s the big deal? you get the top seed into the wac tourney? woo!
they can still lose in the wac tourney in reno and not even get into the ncaa tournament because of their weak schedule!

  327. homey ℞ February 26, 2009 10:34 pm

yeah chawan, UH also played the same weak schedule and look where we are….it sucks to lose so often…it’s good you’re a super UH fan Chawan but the fact is they kicked our butts and at best UH finishes 5th to 7th place in a weak conference….

  330. homey ℞ February 26, 2009 11:09 pm

Ralph – Could be worse, like having the same amount of fans show up for the men’s game as does the women’s.

  331. Ralph February 26, 2009 11:15 pm

if Nash’s team keep on losing and playing inconsistently, the warriors in the future might see a crowd similar to the wbb team….I hope JD intervenes before it happens….mbb must be averaging about 5K per game, not where we want to be in a major men sport especially since JD is giving away free tickets and heavy discounts to students and the maniac boosters and there are part of the tickets distributed…

I don’t understand why the Warriors have to have a scrimmage on Maui with the way the economy is. If anything we should be tightening our belts. God bless McDonald’s, Oceanic Time Warner Cable, etc. of helping out, but these companies are also having a tough time too. Just look at their stock prices. It’s just a bad time to spend money when you don’t have too. A lot of people have lost a lot of money, got laid off, lost their homes, etc. A lot of people are frustrated, anry, and upset with the way things are going. The women’s basketball team is in the toilet, the softball team isn’t very good, the men’s volleyball team is competitive, but can’t win, the men’s basketball team can’t shoot and isn’t very good either. Even the Warrior football team, at 7-7 is very mediocre and couldn’t beat San Jose St. at home and a very bad Utah State. At UH, the athletic dept. has a lot of problems and some coaches are not doing the job and not recruiting enough good talent. However, the UH Rainbow baseball team seems to have some promise. We will see how they do.
All in all, the last 12 months have been pretty sorry. It’s quite disgusting.
I’m a big UH fan and can’t stand us lose like this. A lot of people are.

  346. UNDERFLOOR HEATING March 24, 2009 2:04 am

No state funds will be used to pay for the trip and donations from McDonald’s and Oceanic Time Warner Cable, as well as support from Hawaiian Airlines and Panda Travel, and in-kind support from the County of Maui will cover the expenses.
