Defensive end commits to UH
Defensive end Veni Manu of Mililani High School today accepted a football scholarship from the Warriors.
“I’m very happy to be a Warrior,” Manu told the Warrior Beat. “I think Coach Mack is a great coach, and I want to play for him.”
Manu also has received outstanding tutoring at Mililani. The defensive line coach is Ma‘a Tanuvasa, one of the best to play for the Warrriors.
Manu is 6 feet 4 and 227 pounds.
At the Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance combine in February, he bench pressed 225 pounds 17 times.

There are about 20 players invited to join the Warriors Aug. 25, the first day of the fall semester, when the roster may expand.
A few are on scholarship, such as offensive linemen Levi Legay and Dan Johnson.
Some barely missed making the training-camp roster, such as defensive end Bo Montgomery and defensive tackle Quentin Beaver. Beaver, who is one of the strongest Warriors, needed to lose weight.
Some have to redshirt this season because of NCAA transfer rules, such as linebackers Kaleo Wong and Josh Andrews.
Then there are two mysteries. Quarterback Kiran Kepo‘o, who is on scholarship, attended both summer school sessions. But he did not participate in any of the unsupervised passing drills. His jersey No. 12 recently was given to junior-college transfer Greg Alexander.
Cox was dismissed from the team near the end of last season. He was given a conditional reinstatement for spring training. Scholarships are awarded on a one-year basis. Even after he was dismissed in November, he remained on scholarship through May. Although his scholarship was not renewed, he was invited to rejoin the team as a walk-on on Aug. 25. It is not known if he will show up.

Running back Jake Heun has a herniated disc, but the good news is he won’t need surgery. UH is hopeful intensive rehabilitation will speed up his recovery.
* * *
Defensive lineman Ana Tuiasosopo Jr. has left New Mexico State to prepare for a church mission. Upon his return, he will enroll at UH, according to family members.

“The Beast” gets some love on the Weber State Web site:
“(Ron) McBride was also pleased with the performance of a couple of first-year freshmen who opened some eyes in defensive end Demetri Enesi (6-2, 260 / The Dalles, Oregon) and Ryan Eastman (6-0, 270 / Honolulu, Hawai’i.”
Hope our Warriors are getting a well deserved rest and loooong stretching workout today.
Good morning Maverick!
Good morning ST, Maverick and all Tsai-kos here and away. Hope you all are having a great weekend!!
Good morning good people!
BTW, I haven’t been # 1 on this blog for sometime now.
Howzit to BG and Myki, and all the other Sunday gang.
Sure wish K5 or ESPN would replay last seasons Boise game for us today. That would complete my Sunday.
Hmmm, Wondering if Beowulf still frequents here once in awhile.
Is Jacob still around on campus , or did he go back to Texas ?
Top Ten, baby! Morning all.
About a week ago, I saw Cox w/ farmer, JP davis (IIRC) and another guy buying some Cranberry juice and “Solo” cups pretty late in the evening….must not be training too hard imho. He looked a little out of shape too. Personally, I think hes done.
Anyway, been hanging out on the windward side the past few days and yeah, much better then in town…they should move UH out here instead of Kapolei LoL…
Take it easy everyone…its back to the grind for me tomorrow =(
Maverick:
Boise-UH game was on ESPN, so K5 can’t show it. K5, which didn’t use its crew for road games last season, had a very limited menu of selections.
Tent, maybe!
Maverick:
Patek is a student manager/assistant this season.
I saw Jake (and Chris Brown) ) at practice the first day, but haven’t noticed them since. SJ/Myki?
Big Hilo, Florida is just about finalized. 99.9% sure. Oregon State too. Both with mileage. But the wifey still ain’t happy. I wonder if got any room in Las Vegas’ dog house.
Long Time UH Fan, thanks for typing the Mack article. That was a great read. Oh, and for the Shakespeare article too. Was last in London in 1996 so I missed the opening of the new Globe. But I did see Midsummer Nigh’t Dream by the Royal Shakespeare Company at Stratford on Avon.
Is Mr. Patek getting kind of financial assistance? Is he eligible to attend … say a Tsaiko sponsored CC or tailgate? Same for other Warrior alumni? Just wondering….. 😀
Great news about Patek – Will he be on the sidelines of every home game?
Bummer news on the Hawaii/Boise game. We need to start replaying our greatest games from the last several seasons Now until Aug 29th. That would get fans pumped up to buy season tix.
Anyone else feel that majority of games this season will be in the Full capacity? I believe.
ST – any update on Jake Huen with the Doc’s report?
I’m hoping it’s not disc related.
Maverick:
Patek will be on the sideline.
He gets a scholarship check but because his eligibility is up, you’re free to feed him.
Maverick:
It’s a herniated disc.
Unofficial report is he’s out three weeks, at least, but then with Gerke as his motivator, he could be back a lot sooner.
Brad Kalilimoku also is an interesting study. Most student managers help a lot in observations. Kalilimoku is way more hands on. He sets up cones, snaps the ball during 7-on-7 drills, cleans up. He’s Marissa without the great throwing arm.
Morning/afternoon, Tsaikos and Tsai-Meister.
Great stuff to be found in here the last few days, good reading and info.
I think once we have the QB and O-Line rotation set the offense will come around pretty quick. We’ll probably play up to eight receivers and the cupboards are full everywhere.
I can’t wait. I hope we name a QB by middle of next week.
Have a great weekend, everybody.
Aloha Kakahiaka!
Mojo- glad to have you 99.9% travelling with us!
Hi ST!
-yeah- How are the med reports coming – esp Heun…???
eeeuw… herniated disc…. danger… lucky he’s still young.
So that was Jake Patek I saw at practice…
Good mornin’ errybody. Here’s hoping that Jake Heun has a speedy and complete recovery.
Doesn’t the team already have student managers and now 3 ex-players? Is there anything left for the actual student managers to do. Not much if the ex-players are the ones setting up and doing most of it.
mojo,
CB was at Kalaepohaku yesterday
Church starting now.
bbl
hubby had surgery on his herniated disc and it was successful.
I guess Hubby is ready to block Florida’s linebackers now.
😀 …. I was just wondering the same thing…. 😆
nah! too darn old!
I opted to not have surgery when I herniated my L3. Took almost 10 years to recoup. That was one of the fastest breaking curve balls I’ve been through. But I’m not in my 20’s.
Thanks for your replies ST.
Good for hubby, that’s good news.
Jason…I know you’re probably at church now, but I hope you see this later. Wanted to thank you for your reply to me last night about the team stretching after practice. Didn’t think anyone (no one reads this blog, right?) would read my long, “nothing else to do” post!
In previous years, I only remember the team rallying up at the end of practice and then walking off the field. When I coached runners, we only took a few minutes to stretch the quads and calves (15-30 sec for each). They could then leave or do more stretching if they wanted. We also encouraged that they eat carbohydrates immediately and consume a sports drink to aid recovery…emphasizing the half hour to 2 hour window. Now a days, they sell sports snacks that have the recommended 4:1 ratio of carbs to protein. The standard guideline was to consume 1 gram of carb for every pound the runner weighed. My reference was “Optimal Muscle Recovery” written by Dr. Edmund Burke who is/was the Director of the Exercise Science Program at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. The book is not the easiest reading, but for athletes, it’s worth more than gold.
Arghhhhhhhhhh! I give up! The “Bad News A’s” are sinking faster than Addahknowsports’ lead foot stomping down on some poor Tsaiko’s toe!!!! 😡 😛 😥
…speaking of stretching… Did anyone see the NBC Olympics piece on swimmer Dara Torres? It was an interview by Chris Collinsworth. They showed Ms. Torres’s daily, pre-swim stretching routines. OMG – I didn’t know people were suppose to bend that much and in those positions! OMG…… 🙄
Good morning to all the blog friends!
Actually, ST, I think Marissa has a few more assets than a great throwing arm over Brad 😀
LizK…I hope the morning finds you feeling a bit better!!!
ST
Thanks for the note on Ryan “the Beast” Eastman!!! We’re all proud of him!
yeah, brew, I saw it. Imagine having a man’s feet walking on your body! ouch!
But didn’t Torres get the silver medal, not the gold?
Good Morning Tsaikos!!
What am I supposed to do today without a practice to watch??
Great to hear about Patek and Kalilimoku.
Hopefully the O-Line can use today to cool off from all that happened yesterday. You can tell that they are getting a little frustrated……or maybe the D is really that good! 20 days until kickoff……will we be ready???
Sup Gang,
Watching Olympics…U.S.A. doing well so far in most events. Was able to catch the Basketball team whoop on Yao Ming and co., it’s about time we start beating the crap out of everyone again. Nothing will ever replace the Original Dream Team, but U.S.A. needs to show how superior our athletes are and stop bullchittin!
Dara Torres is amazing…definitely MILF status! Go U.S.A.
stretch, do what I am gonna do — have Sunday Brunch at Michel’s.
Good luck to bruddah Jake, hope I don’t have a herniated disc…find out tommorrow.
Committed Lurker – I’d say our Defense is really that good. But that is what will help our offense be frikkin awesomest by going up against a relentless and agressive defense everyday! I’m with FloridaTed though in saying that a QB and the OLine need to solidify like pronto! We got about 2 1/2 – 3 solid weeks of practice to make perfect for the Swamp! Coach Mack keep cracking the whip and get this stampede ready to rumble!!!
Hmmm…I agree Mario Cox is done playing football at UH, another case of a potentially good player in the doghouse. Talk about wasted talent, I hope these guys take a look in the mirror and find themselves. Nothing hurts more than living a life full of regret…shoulda, woulda, coulda, will eat at you forever. Graunke, you are pretty much done too buddy. All I have to say is you are probably the dumbest mofo ever…good luck to you!
Question…
Alright nothing against Kepo’o, but since he is on scholarship and doesn’t make the cut, can his scholarship be pulled and given to someone else? I don’t see Kepo’o getting any PT this year, next year, or even the year after. Sorry, just my opinion, but he seems like scout team material. Plus with the likes of Steele Jantz, Cory Nielsen, and then Brent Rausch having 3 years to play, I dunno.
Jes’ finished a bowl of gimchi jigae and caught up with the end of the last blog.
Did I read it right that Midnight (on a long trip around the mainland) is going to Vegas to get married??
bhf2- just click on my name to see my blog- then click on the Official Blog of the Washington Redskins. Matt Terl has listed a bunch of links to other Redskins sites. That’s where I glean a lot of info.
ok. Brown rice is pau cook… time for the 2nd course.
btw- i DID stay awake enuf to see Clay Stanley get it back together again to help his team get the W. Their setter/captain was AMAZING though. Coming off the injury bench to seal the deal.
Pauoa Boy, agreed w/r/t the O-Line. Going up against our defense will only help them get stronger, and when come time to play the games, hopefully they won’t be as overwhelmed then as they were during Fall Camp.
To me, Florida is a whole ‘nother level of competition (and deservedly so), but the Oregon State game should be a very good metric of where the team as a whole stands at that point, and if things aren’t exactly going to plan, I wouldn’t be surprised if Coach Mack decides to make changes after THAT game going into the bye week before the start of WAC play.
The Oregon State game will be my first glimpse of the team in person this season, and IMO they represent what we’ll possibly be going up against when we play Fresno & Boise later on in the season.
you treating?? I hope they have soup there because I sure can use it.
stretch, I looked at the sunday brunch menu, but saw no soup listed. Auwe! You got digestive problems?
Committed Lurker – If you are going to the OSU game, the Tsaikos will be planning some sort of pregame breakfast somewhere. I hope you can join us. Also, IMHO, you have been posting frequently so your “lurker” status is removed, you have to change your name.
hahaha. So his name now will be: COMMITTED.
gigi – i get one hangover. whitey is dangerous!! I am just glad I was able to claw my way out of the darkside and return home.
maybe, stretch, you could order a bloody mary. Gee, it’s been a century since I had a hangover.
Commited Lurker – Nah…Florida may be on another level as far as overall talent goes with there 4-5 star recruits…but that don’t mean nothing. They are just lucky they are in a better conference to be able to face great competition all the time. We on the other hand have only some great teams while the rest are some WTF are you doing in our conference teams. I believe Coach Mack, Coach Ron and Cal Lee, having been brewing up a recipe for success against the Gators, and will have the boys prepared to go in there with an “I’m going to whoop your arse mentality”! Besides Coach Mack is very smart and knows how to adjust if need be, so I think we’ll surprise alot of people when we go down there. Oregon State should be a good game…I just hope our DLine puts Jeremy Perry on his arse a few times. I support homegrown talent, but he’s a punk and very dirty player, plus he’s going against our Warrior boys…
I live on the mainland, so pretty much the only games I have a chance to go to are the road matchups. Is the name “Committed Road Warrior” taken?
Stretch, didn’t you or someone else get link with all that info regarding the road games and such?

Are you on there already??
Thanks, gigi.
Time for me to take a nap.
CRW – email me at stretch6592 at yahoo if you are interested in joining us.
good sunday morning to da tsaiko’s
enjoying a cup of kope and catching on da olympic haps
watched UH practice yesterday and was interesting. still need work on da oline. dey must work on playing together as a unit. hisatake struggled and doesn’t look comfortable at the guard spot. da d is definitely the strength this year and dey look in early mid season form. very aggressive and quick. if they fly to the point of attact and play position will be hard to beat
only game experience will tell how well da warriors will turn out overall
well back to watching UH wata polo team and another cup of kofe den I go
esme whooooooooooooosh
esme = “exit…. –> me” ? 😆 🙄 😀
stretch – Is it still considered the “19th hole” if it’s at/on the “darkside”? 😯 😆 😯
here’s last night’s news
UH awards 3 scholarships
Colt, Davone, Reagan, Pisa highlights
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxjE0JVaBEE
Stretch, doesn’t look like I’m on the list (yet). Will shoot e-mails to get myself added. Thanks.
If/when DL Ana Tuiasosopo Jr. returns from his church mission and attends UH, will he be a Freshman with 4 yrs to play 4? It’s nice to see local players getting offers and a chance to play in front of family and friends. AND – for players wanting to come back from mainland schools/programs being welcome back with an opportunity to make the team and earn scholarships too. IMHO…. 🙂
pauoa,
re: autograpsh
i was in the vegas airport once and my friends and i saw shannon sharpe(when he was still playing). he was ahead of us, so we ran after him. he had either a bodyguard, agent or friend with him. we finally caught up to him and asked for an autograph trying to keep up with his long strides. sharpe said no, and his friend was like, not unless you pay for it.
we stopped, shocked. and we both hate shannon sharpe today. you think you’re special, but without your fans you are nothing.
Sad to hear that Isaac Hayes passed away this morning

Aloha – Committed Road Warrior (formerly Lurker)
–
Yeah, SteveM is our Tsaiko statistician, documentalist & FBI-representative. He’s been MIA – (slacker!) 😆 He usually is on top of welcoming all transplanted and/or displaced Tsaikos. So on his behalf…. and if you don’t mind, where are currently residing and blogging from? 😀
For those who have the HA, there is a Mahalo ad on page C-9 for the Game On Dinner. Check out who is listed under “Supporter Table”. Right along side Bank of Hawaii, Pepsi Hawaii, and Pizza Hut/Taco Bell are THE Tsai-kos!!!
Nice to hear about da beast
stretch,
i was gonna mention that too about the paper. congrats to you guys!
stretch –
Hey…. not fair (again)! We underpriviledged, transplanted and/or displaced Tsaikos no can see.
Hey chawan –
How come you no shame chasing after has-been former NFL players but ….? Nah…. never mind…… j/k 🙄 😀 😛
Good morning everyone!
Nice find Stretch.
Especially given your current condition. Did you find some suup yet?
maybe just looking at this might help
http://onokinegrindz.typepad.com/ono_kine_grindz/2004/10/kapiolani_coffe.html
😀 SteveM – 😳
@SteveM,
I stay in Mesa, AZ.
Check your e-mail 🙂
Belgium scores on China; it’s suddenly very quiet from the Way Wesside.
CRW- been there long? I’m an ancient (not as old as gigi, tho) grad of West High in phx.
“Mesa Warrior”
YOU not one Tsaiko??
brew….
thanks for the support all this time. at the blog party, finally got the “prize” that you were so gracious to give up for the haiku.
i know when to give up the chase. there’s already a prince to take care of the castle. as long as THE Princess has a fairy tale ending, that’s all that matters….
… stone writing tablets… one of many HS expelled from…. 😯 😆
Javier Molina (141 lbs) getting an Olympic boxing lesson now… 1-8 after 2 rds
stretch, i didn’t sit on the table, so i didn’t want to take credit. when’s the pigskin pigout?
chawan – 😀
“sit on the table” – there was a pupu named after chawan??? Sorry – I guess I miss the addahknows – nobody to pick on today….. 🙁
bighilofan2:
Finally got caught up here. Re: your reply on the previous blog (wow, you’re either a radical early bird or a real late night owl…).
Haven’t heard further from Conor, so don’t know if he’s interested.
Not sure what restaurant you’re referring to, but get plenty choices over here (your side too, I know). Hawaiian Style Cafe in Waimea would be a good one for local-style cuisine for big appetites.
Seems like, with the season approaching, it may finally be time for a Big Island Tsaikos Cattle Call, and what better place than the home of the Ikua Purdy?
Any other Big Islanders interested?
Pigskin Pigout is on Thursday Aug 21. Tickets are $100 each.
Hey Mike,
Go see WMojo
when you parked the bike it was all good. when you looked at it at the tow truck place it was not good. you got a motor vehicle on the job invollved in a accident with another vehicle. garanz the tow truck’s insurance gonna get involved. gonna take this away from the upstairs guy(s). this is right up Mojo’s alley.
of course, you could go to plan b or c. my idea or Stretch’s key.
Go man go.
brew808,
hahaha
YOU KNOW *WHO*!
unkanesson
how about setting next Sunday lunch… where? I’m there…. is that lunch place in the KTA mall but at the opposite end (not the Steakhouse) open Sundays? i dunno… you tell me… maybe even dat breakfast spot on da road by the playfield… you play SteveM, call da spot, send out da announcements and see how many come. i’m in…. 😀
den you can see my bannah :8
Committed1島 – You don’t know whom…. either! According to your latest parole terms … are you allowed to travel out-of-state and will las vegas be getting a visitor(s) and free meal soon? 😯 😀 😆
SteveM, Jason – What happened to the list of out-isle Tsaikos? It looks like a Big Isle CC is in the making…. 😀
Conor, places to go in Kona: dinner at Teshima’s in Kainaliu or Manago Hotel in Capt, Cook; Bento lunch from Teshim’s or Capt. Cook Drive-in in Capt Cook; Kona Coast Macadamia Nut Factory in Honaunau for mac nut candies.
OK, got the web pages updated. Committed Road Warrior is attending the OSU, Boise, and New Mexico games. Probably Fresno.
Committed Road Warrior — contact Stretch at the email addy in post #59 above. The OSU game Tsai-ko’s have an email mailing list to coordinate activities in Portland.
❗ Stretch is still seeking people interested in riding a charter bus to and from Corvallis from Portland. Has almost half a bus load now, but more people will make the cost lower. Advantage is no driving and searching for parking. email Stretch.
brew808,
Good to travel OOS but no Vegas adventure in future until Sept ’09 🙁
Boise game is on though.
ST….
Any updated status on spring practice walk-on OG Les Soloai re-joining the Warriors on the 25th?
BTW, any update on former Kahuku players (currently serving their missions)….DT David Niumatalolo (played at NMSU as true frosh before beginning mission)….or DT Joey Faifili (signed with Utah but never attended)…possibly joining the Warriors in the future?
Mahalo.
bighilofan2 —
I think you thinking about Kamuela Deli. Should be open — I’ll be driving by there in an hour or so, will check it out and report back.
Paniolo Country Inn is the other one you mentioned. Fixed seating arrangements might make things difficult for talk story with more than 4 peeps.
Sunday schedule might be tight — we’ll see — but since you offering to make the long drive, I’ll do my best.
Gotta hele on. I’ll be back online mid afternoon.
A hui hou kakou!
Ahhh…the fresh air of freedom!
Bighilofan2 and Unkanesson — just announce your Big Island Cattle Call when ready– date, time, and place and I will add it to the events calendar. Cuisine and approximate cost would be good too 🙂
d1島 – Too bad you can’t visit w/ las vegas. I bet you guys could compare “dog-house” stories – although I think his are for real, and yours…… kaka! 😆
Wanna watch 25 minutes of “keep away”?
China down 0-1 and playing short two players in the 66th minute.
brew808,
Aw c’mon! We’ve never even met!
heheheh
or have we….???? 😯 😯 😀
Demetrius Andrade (152 lbs) coming up next boxing a guy from Georgia (not the one merv lives in)
ST,
Forgot to ask you earlier…any update with Vili’s son Whitley joining the Warriors on the 25th?…now that he’s got his release from Coach Glanville at PSU.
Mahalo!
😕
Andrade up 4-2 after 2 rds
CRW – I checked SteveM’s site and it shows you have an extra ticket for the game?? Longdistance808 was looking for one. Can you confirm if this is correct?? Thanks
stretch – LizK was also looking for another ticket for the OSU game. Was that for longdistance808 too?
Good afternoon Tsaikos. The last Jedi (stretch) caught one of those fancy airy crafts and left me on the dark side. I had to do some manul navigation between the stars to get out of the dark side. I see stretch has made it home and he going make some pocho soup to cure his air sickness. When I last look backed leaving the dark side, the merchants put up a neon sign which said “welcome back richard”. Hooo, that Jedi get some speed.
@Stretch,
Yes, I will have an extra ticket for the game. I ordered two (2) tickets for the game off of UH’s allotment (anyone know when they’re gonna be mailed out? I never get mine yet). I reserved the second ticket in case someone I knew like go to the game as well, but unfortunately had no takers. Therefore, I have an extra ticket.
You get my e-mail yet?
brew808 – Liz had one that kkv2000 will be using. LD808 was also looking for one so hoping CRW can help him.
richard?
Andrade wind 11-9.
Richard is a friend who was with us last night. That guy is one rascal!!
al. let stretch tell you about him. hahahaaaahhhh!!!! also about stretch’s dad. aaaaaaagggggghhhhhhh.
Still worried about Team USA basketball after watching the China game. They still have not faced any tough competition– these easy games give you the wrong impression. The Australians are not a world power and also exposed weaknesses in a close game. The USA depends on the fast break. Their rebounding is weak (they were outrebounded by Australia) and if they get outrebounded and forced into a half court game by the better teams, they are going to have a tough time winning the gold. Coach K has them playing better than past teams and will need to keep on them before they face tougher competition.
OK, back to UH. Can the wahines make a turn around this season. Will hold my opinion till I see them in action. But, if they use the same offense as last season, forget it, down the tubes.
Good to hear that UH is using old fashioned fb practices. These guys are not NFLer’s yet, so they need to do things the old fashion way. it is very good to see that the players are starting to understand Coach Mc and his staff way of coaching. I think Pauoa Boy would be very proud of the way they are handling their disciplined practices.
With Veni Manu and Kimo Makaula, UH is going to have some really tough pass-rushers for years to come.
brew808 — I received your pix from yesterday’s inaugural Bay Area cattle call. Will add the group photo to the scrapbook as soon as Photoshop you in 🙂
The Palace BBQ (Sunnyvale, CA) food pix looks real good. Rivals or exceeds our Camellia. Looks like you folks found a good place on that side of the bay. Now for one in San Jose and one near Fremont…? 😕
whitey – I agree…. practice hard, play hard, W or L, it’s a 100% effort…. 24/7! No excuses!
SteveM – you have some affinity to Fremont?
The Giants win!!!! 😀 😯 😆
ST – thanks for the update on Veni Manu! UH got another stud recruit.
BTW – we need to start planning our Fresno State game plan. I know the Kamehameha contingent is driving up from SoCal. I’m still trying to round up a group of friends to attend the game. I think I have >10 already. The UH site says it’s a 7pm game. Tombo has it at 2pm. Which is it? I
‘m wondering if we could meet at L&L in Fresno for late lunch, or if it’s a 2pm start – we could get take-out for an tailgate? October (and Game #5) is less than two months away…. GO WARRIORS!!! 😀 😯 😆
Howzit, everyone! Hi, ST! Happy Sunday, all!
Pauoa Boy,
The colorful writing and observations! THIS is one of the many reasons I so enjoy having you on this blog. 😀
Good news about Veni Manu. We will be good at defensive end with he and Kimo Makaula there. Both will be about 6’4″ 250-260 pounds in two years, running 4.7 40’s.
Love the way the Hawaiii staff is recruiting.
Yeeeeehaaaa, another Mililani Trojan with our Warriors!
So I wonder if this means he could bench-press me 34 times? 😆
ST – Yeah – great news. Hmmmm… I wonder if the other local players are keeping track (worrying about) of the number of remaining scholarships for 2009. 😯
Ooh, there’s Pride.! *waving* Yes, I’m also stoked over our current recruiting trends.
Howzit also to whitey, brew, Hawaiianbod, SteveM and all others online!
Ahhh… Esme weighs 225# or more??? 😆
Esme is 113.5 lbs. Hi Esme.
brew808,
re: esme,
calculate da oddah way 😉
I thinking dat’s da plan; as bhf2 would say, “put presha!”
Does anyone know if the last three games are/will be sell-outs – vs. SmashedPotatoes, Wash&Wear, & SinSee? I also see the Wahine vs. WAC touney is at the SSC Nov. 20-23. Hmmmmm …. just a quick look ahead. 😀
Oops 112.5 ponds. I gotta buy one new calculator.
esme,
Take dramamine first
In keeping with the spirit of the Olympics…. 113.5 lbs. = 51.5 kg (at least before lunch….) Hi Esme! 😆 😯 😀
brew808,
…depends how things go between Aug. 29 and Nov. 9. No can be sell-out yet ’cause individual game tix nevah go on sale.
Howzit Brew!
I was listening to that SF game. Grrr! The Dodgers blew it in the bottom of the 9th. Sorry, but i’m a LA fan. That division is weak!
I’m not sure who’s worse – SF or Oakland?
pride.,
Eh, dats not da calculator you use at work, right? 😉
Stephen,
What is “intensive rehabilitation” for a herniated disk? 😕
Poke ’em back in wit one bbq stick?
Hi Esme! Looking forward to your chat with the “other” Coach Mack tomorrow.
I suppose. As I recall, it is a BART line terminus that goes furthest south in the lower Bay Area. If I had to choose a site on the east side of the bay, Fremont comes to mind. Long ago, I used to drive there from the Sunnyvale/Cupertino area to go into SF too (when visiting brother).
Hello Esme!
Hi ST…
btw,
was talking to wafan last night.
He is unable to access the blog even though he’s in the 808 area code but he is still looking forward to seeing everyone at the KKall.
Fremont – the addahknows went there…. I think they were lost! 😀 Oh I get it, Sunnyvale to Fremont-BART to the city. You could have caught the CalTrain up the pennisula. Ask the addahknows – they’re now mass-transit experts, at least in the Bay Area! 😀
???
d1, that is the calculator that I use at work. No wonder da accounting guys always stay mad wit; me,
Hmmmm – strange day. d1 travels to AZ to talk to wafan on the phone because he (wafan) is visiting in the 808 and not able to access the WB….
…. maybe I should cut back on my meds…. or take more! 😀 😯 😆
Pride has to teach me all about offensive line play. In return, I will teach him arithmetic. I think my middle niece might still have some books from 1st grade. 😀
d1島 – Yes…. that sounds/reads funny!
Okay – I know the policy is what is discussed at a CC is verboten on the blog… but I have to ask/comment:
– Every time I see and talk to Garret – I end up saying to myself, “Wow – is that guy for real!!!” 😯 😀
– Anyone else notice that addahknowjoe sure asks a lot of questions? 😆
– Does this happen to anyone else? While talking with addahknowsports – does she punch you after ever other sentence? 😯 😆 🙄
Brew, all 3 came to my home for lunch and Wii bowling, boxing and shooting.
Garret won $10 for winning in his “division.”
A-Joe didn’t ask a lot of questions, but he “beat” his wife at boxing.
A-Sports gave me a beautiful bookmark and a pendant.
All 3 were a joy to have around!
ajoe probably was intimidated being in the presence of the master of questions….. gigi!!! 😆
Was this a BIO event?? How come I wasn’t aware of the party at gigi’s?? If it wasn’t an open party, it should be talked about on the blog
shouldn’t
haha Brew, you asked 3 questions in #152. I asked none in #153.
In 49ers news – Brandon Moore has been released! He was pushing Jeff Ulbrich for PT at Ted (strong) LB. This is likely only a brief reprieve for Ulbrich as the Niners will likely sign free-agent Takeo Spikes.
BTW – it’s going to be another painful season for the 49er Faithful….

The Warrior Beat rocks.
And the HA workers deserve more money.
Sorry, gonna take a break to size some pics of brunch at Michel’s. BTW, they are super-efficient. A water goblet slipped from my fingers and cracked bits of glass, ice cubes, and water spewed all over the table.
3 waiters arrived instantly and cleared the table. As a matter of fact, they brought a “fresh” table to replace the one we had.
Time to go sleep
During last Friday’s game vs. the Raiders, both Ulbrich and DE Isaac Sapoaga started on the D-. They played only a couple of series and neither had any tackles although Sapoaga should have gotten credit for a team tackle. WR Ashley Lelie DNP.
Wow! Desperate times at the HA. They now accept blog ads from drug pushers! 😆
Oh brew808, you don’t have to remind me how bad this year will be. 🙁
i think intensive hernia rehabilitation is legal in one of the states.
Howzit BigHilo!
Yeah, I’m probably going to talk to Mojo about my options. The Tizercrat I spoke to kept juggling answers trying to justify their actions (though they still won’t identify who called to tow company in the first place) but none of them make sense. I’m talking to the tow company’s adjuster to cover the cost of the damage, but I’m not super mad at them; their driver obviously didn’t understand how to transport a motorcycle, or that their equipment wasn’t up to the job. However, I did describe, in great detail, to the Tizer folks exactly what sort of damage would occur to my bike if it was improperly towed (all of which came true), so to me, their decision to tow my bike was an intentional attempt to damage it. In any case, no one is getting any peace until they make things right.
BTW, loved the slogan suggestions.
………… HA Parking: …………
Violators will be prosecuted!
(that means management)
Oops – correction! 😳 That should read
management“those responsible!”169th!!!
Hiya!
Fell asleep during the golf broadcast… wierd flu- makes you sleep alot.
Actully had enuf energy to go down and throw a load into the washer.
AND – I got all the parts to make my old Roomba work again. Yea. Had to replace the battery and dustbin after one year. Kinda pricey but cheaper than buying a new one.
Away Game Tickets are coming this months- starting with the Florida gme- whci should be mailed tomorrow- certified, I believe.
Great to hear that there is a ticket for everybody now!
I’ve read somewhere today, don’t remember where, that Coach Mack is looking for 18 players on offense and 18 players on defense, to keep everybody fresh.
I’m a little confused, with our depth, I thought we have, I would have assumed at least 22 on each side. What’s up with that?
at least LizKauai has something to talk about
Hawaii vs. Nevada in Little League baseball on ESPN2, on now, 1st inning.
Wow – Thanks WarriorMojo! Just in time to watch the first run score on the PB, then the HR! Go Waipio! 3-0 after one!
howzit Mike
yep, negligent act by the tower gets da insurance all jazzed, and the deductible … full freight or drag em thru da muck fo da price ah 1 guud nite wit whitey.
mojo is a good tow truk chaser. 😀
let it be said: don’t mess with us Tsaikos…
Be nice to the tow truck driver only after he tells you the name of the nincompoop.
how would they like it if sum junk kine lurker wood go in one of them coffee cafes in Honolulu with a computer and a money machine to get online, so we won’t know id…. an tell da name ah da nincompoop, what kine car he drivess and da license plate number…. wood we get blame if the kahuna gods come out ah da woodwork and lay some ohana and family values on da braddaz kaa. hurt feelings go along way towards payback, so HA local bosses gotta know they live in this town too. betta make pono das my advice to dem.
Wow – did anyone else see those Aloha print shorts the Waipio coach was wearing. Wild! I think it was the same print the UHfan808 wore at some UH or Tsaiko gathering…. Ha! Let’s go Waipio!! 😆
Jason,
I took Calculus I in high school, Calculus II and III at UH. I have no desire to pursue math at a higher level.
That Esme mistake was the calculator’s fault.
Coach Mack on L&L now
Poly Pride on KHET right now.
Ka-Pow! HR Waipio! The local kids retake the lead 4-3 in the bottom of the 4th. 😀
Veni Manu- Welcome to da Warrior ohana!
Women’s (really girls) gymnastics on the tube now. It’s the US team. The arena looks kind of empty…. 🙁
Somebody should check Nevada’s pitcher’s birth certificate.
C’mon Waipio!!! Make like West Oahu and win!!!
Mililani rocks! welcome Veni…next up Taz, an early commitment would be a welcomed plus for the program to build on homegrown athletes…
Hoohiki – Ha! He might be okay – no facial hair yet?
IMHO – they shouldn’t allow these kids to throw any of these breaking pitches!
14 strikeouts, maybe Hawaii should have played small ball and put more pressure on the Nevada defense….
HAWAII WINS!
Waipio!!! 😀 😀 😀
Waipio beats Henderson, NV 4-3 and wins the West Region. Next stop – Williamsport for the LLWS! I wonder if they’ll need an airplane to fly there…. 😀 😀 😀
Wai-pi-o! Wai-pi-o! Wai-pi-o!
Pennsylvania, here we come!!!
brew808
not to worry the western regional LL will take care of the team and coaches air fare and living stay to williamsport. they will fly out sometime monday late morning after being briefed about what is going to be happening when they reach the LL world series in williamsport. the scramble will be the parents following the team. they will need to find flight and hotel accommodations which will be at a premium.
one of our ex students is on the team….kelan obedoza. coached his dad billy when he was with pc.
Brew to combat breaking/curve ball pitching the LL imposed a policy that puts into effect a limit pitch count per game in addition to a one day/one game rest rule.
koakane – Mahalo for the info. Actually, I was attempting to make a figurative statement on the joy and elation the kids must be feeling. (I guess I failed!) It is a real investment by the family and supporters of these players – shows the dedication and support by all families supporting all levels of athletics! Mahalo to all!
How appropriate! – “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” is showing the episode in Hawaii tonight! 😀
koakane –
Yeah – I see that. I still don’t think it’s a good idea for young athletes. It’s just NOT a natural arm motion. Look at the problems older and professional players suffer throwing curves (mostly sliders and such). The exception is a slide-arm delivery. Do any kids try that? 😀
koakane –
I’ve been meaning to comment to you…. I saw that “beverage” sales were up in the 808 for the month of June! I suppose they should be thanking you and a few of the other Tsaikos for that increase! 😀 😯 😆
I’ve never liked kids this young throwing breaking balls, either. Start them off with fastballs and changeups. Stress control and identical arm motion. Too many of those kids end up having Tommy John Surgery.
6 days and 1 hour until…
😆 😀 😆

Updates will be posted in the Events Calendar section

I will be listing the meal/pupu/goody potluck items that attendees might voluntarily bring to the Karaoke Call so everyone can see the overall “menu”. Not everyone should bring food, otherwise we will have too much–so don’t feel you must bring something.
Please email me with your tentative food item or speciality dish (hint, hint). I will list it in the Events calendar section above.
Rats! Another Tsaiko Event that I wasn’t invited too and can’t attend! 🙁 I do know that addahknowjoe (and his better half) will be there. He was practicing his “bobble-head” routine! 😆 😯 😆
Brew, why don’t you move back to Hawaii?
How do you know I’m not there? BTW – #200! 😀
Looks like UCLA’s QB is out for at least 8 weeks.
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3528767
That makes former UH recruit Kevin Craft the leader to be the starting QB for UCLA.
Wow – the UCLA QB position sure seems like a hard-luck role. There have been so many injuries over the past few seasons. 😯
I wish UCLA was available to play our UH Warriors!!! 😀
brew-haha
(thot that had a nice ring to it)
I like Olympic swimmer Natalie Coughlin – but she needs to win some gold!!! 😀
Good Evening Everyone….
Had a good’s day rest and things are almost back to normal. Just ate Chanko Nabe at Komokata in Aina Haina. Soup really is the cure for a hangover. BTW, Komokata and a few other shops in the Aina Haina Shopping Center will be closing. That place will be a desert town if things continue.
Oh great – not invited to the party, can’t attend, and now gigi is making jokes with my blog name…. 😈 😯 🙂
Stretch- soup rules!
Just bought my bus tickets for the trip between Pensacola and Gainesville. Glad the flu hit now and not 2 weeks from now!!!
We are all in Ke Akua’s hands.
😆
gigi??? 😮
so- brew-haha are you posing as “hurt feelings” then???? 😮
brew808 = Hurt Feelings??
http://warriorbeat.honadvblogs.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif
I found the smiley files… sorry, just testing.
What – brew = bulls-eye? Feelings come from the heart. No heart, no feelings. No can get hurt!
Hey – it’s DPK’s turn for target practice! 😈 😯 😀
I’m watching Olympic swimming with the sound muted.
With the unisex swim suits, caps, goggles, broad, muscular shoulders – it’s sometimes difficult to tell whether it’s a men’s or women’s event. Wait – some of the men are in the traditional swim trunks/tights…. I think. 😆 😯 😆
Tomorrow should be interesting with 2-a-days starting. I hope all the players were able to rest up and recoup today. ST better have his sun screen all set up. Going to try and catch the morning practice.
GOOD evening All “Brew808”-
Yes, our son Ana Jr will have 4 years to play 4 when he returns from his Mormon Mission, and…he will be enrolling at UH Manoa and joining His brother and the rest of the Warrior Football Team. Serving the Lord is a priority for both of our sons (not trying to be religious)…they know that’s where their blessings will come from…From putting GOD 1ST in their lives! Ana Jr left New Mexico State a SCHOLAR ATHLETE and left behind brothers he misses dearly…most especially…the most loving, caring and intense Defensive Line Coach “Coach Mike Fanoga”. Thank u for inquiring Brew808, happy to share with you anytime!
Kapakahi- David Niumatalolo has 1 yr or less left on his Mormon Mission, which he is currently serving in Africa. Joey Faifili, last we knew he was at a Junior College in Sacramento.
To all of the Tsaiko’s- Please allow me to share my thoughts on our Handsome “O-LINEMAN” of the UH Warrior Football Team. Personally, for our baby “Tuiatua” it’s been the most trying & difficult week for him ever “CONDITIONING/RUNNING” wise in his entire life. His Daddy has warned him time and time again that DIVISION 1 College Football is a totally different animal from “SAINT LOUIS CRUSADERS FOOTBALL”. He’s learned, and is finally LISTENING to his Daddy! We’re not ashamed to say that it’s been a very HUMBLING WEEK for our “TUIATUA”. He is RELISHING his day off 2-day. We know that there are areas that the O-LINE needs some major tweaking. We also know that with Coach Smith & Coach Gerke…they’ll get the job done! & With the Captain of the Ship “Coach Mack” steering our Young Men into becoming the Great Players that they can become…Our Warrior Football Vessel will remain in TOP SHAPE for years to come with Coach Cal & Coach Ron Lee as Coach Mack’s “2” right hands! Tsaiko’s “THANK YOU, FA’AFETAI TELE LAVA, MAHALO, MALO AUPITO, SALAMAT PO” for supporting Warrior Football! Thank you Coach Lumpkin , Coach Miano and Coach Tommy Heffernan and all the other Coaches, Trainers, Managers, Doc’s that help to mold these beautiful young men into awesome members of the community. Give the O-LINE some time…they won’t DISSAPOINT YOU! DEFENSE…UR AWESOME!
Sorry so long…as I only share my thoughts when warranted:)
Fa soifua-
Warrior Football Mom & Dad
Lua – your insight from a players parent’s perspective is always welcome here. Thank you for posting and keep it coming.
For those who watch the Opening Ceremonies, I’ve been reading that the fireworks shown on tv were fake.
Link to story above
Lua – Thank you for the update! Congratulations to you, your family, and to Ana Jr.! His mission will be a blessing to all! Two years will quickly pass and Ana will return a stronger and wiser person! The UH Warriors and the Tsaikos look forward to his return!
And for Tui – keep plugging along! The successful ones learn from their struggles. It is a test. Go Tuiatua! 😀
Lua, thank you for your information. The Tuiasosopo family must be so proud to have two sons carry on their father’s legacy by playing for the Warriors. I went to school at the same time as Ana and I will be proud to cheer for his sons the same way I cheered for him.
Aloha Lua!
Thank you for sharing your information/love with the Tsaikos! Err, excuse me but you’re one Tsaiko, too.
Looking forward to seeing Ana, Jr. in WARRIOR green.Mahalo to you and Ana for raising great sons! Keep posting.
Tui – be steadfast! Keep up the good work!!
Oh thanks Stretch! Next you’re going to tell us that 12-0 never happened, the Warrior Beat has been just an episode of “The Simpsons”, HF is still in charge! 😡 😯 🙁
HF still being in charge would be a nightmare
Stretch – interesting article. Things that make you go hmm. I hope they don’t come out with a report that Santa Claus is not a real, either.
brew808- look at 206 – you started it by calling me gigi… 😳
is not a real=is not real.
Hawaiianbod – sshhhhhhhh, no say nothing about Santa Claus being fake, we get some young Tsaikos, aka Jason, who would be devastated.
Our grayshirt and 2009 prospects should read what Mrs Tuiasosopo posted about conditioning as this would give them a great head start when they start actual practice with the Warriors.
haha and heaven forbid if brew calls me Liz!
the way we watch the Olympics is by recording the highlights and then playing it back, fast forwarding past the commercials. That way we don’t waste time.
Hawaiianbod, went to Alaska and got blanked on salmon, so no fish recipes yet. You noticed I said yet because I going back in 4 weeks to make up for lost time.
Stretch, I hope that you have recovered from your trip to Maui and the dark side, but you look like that you have some side effects, dilerium!! hahahahahaaaahhhh.
whitey – those side effects are with me all day everyday
whitey – no worries! I know in four weeks you will catch uku plenty salmon. Good luck!
Looking forward to meeting you and Duffer this Saturday at the KK.
Liz, gigi – Korean Tsaikos, muumuu’s, occasionally golfs, eats out, has a musical background, owns a roomba, enjoys electronic gadgets/toys, has a new grand-daughter to dote over, loves kulolo and ramen, likes to travel, has active blogs, has strong opinions, …. Okay, I’d better stop there….. 😈 😯 😆
Good Evening Tsaikos and Tsaikettes!
We have freeeee day tomorrow and will be roaming CA. I think we’re going to end up back in Sunnyvale tomorrow to visit friends. I’ve been waiting for the fog to finally lift just so I can see it roll in again.
We’ll be going home soon and see you all at Saturday’s K-call.
Wow, SteveM and Brew…you guys sure wen post that cc pic fast. Sorry D1 and others. No can post pic of you know who. We get choke other pics though. Even get one for Midori thanks to Brew’s eagle eyes. Also get one for Stretch (you famous dude). Woulda have one for me too, but didn’t want to become roadkill.
Have a great week!
gigi versus Liz
A battle royale. Barbs fly –
And the winner is…. 😀 😯 😆
Mrs. Tuiasosopo,
Thanks for posting with us. You are now a full fletched Tsaikette. Please, post often, your parental insights are priceless, mahalo.
“roadkill” … and it involved bikinis…. 😀
Good evening Tsaikos!
Hope you’re all having a good Sunday.
Lua – I echo the sentiments expressed by others. Thanks for the parents perspective. Look forward to hearing more from you as the season progresses.
*burp* Just got back from dinner at Wild Ginger (9th & Waialae). Mostly Thai & Chinese dishes. I stay stuffed. Everything onolicious. Always good when Mom pays for dinner. 😀
Oh yeah….sorry Brew-
I forgot to mention that. I guess that’s why I wasn’t in any rush to get over there. Can you imagine the field day the Tsaikos would have with that one. lol.
jm2375 – you coming to Karaoke on Saturday??
No problem “Popsicle” – that’s what your Tsaiko brethren are here for… making sure you don’t leave out the most embarrassing parts…. 😀 😯 😆
gigi – it’s time to dogpile on brew808 😆
Jason, come join us!
USA!!!~USA!!!~USA!!!~USA!!!~USA!!!
Hi SPORTS!
I’ve been working on my blog format… sorry… distracted…
“Fake” fireworks or not. That was still the most spectacular Opening Ceremony in history.
Stretch – probably not. The wardens have not issued any passes for the inmates for the week. 😉
Wait – was that from gigi or Liz??? 😯 😀 😆
USA!!!~USA!!!~USA!!!~USA!!!~USA!!!~USA!!!~USA!!!~USA!!!
I am a MORNING person. Feel so sleepy. Watching Olympics. Too bad USA didn’t win any medals for the synchronized diving even though they hired a former coach from China.
Hey guys, I just got a message from a friend. I haven’t been following the road trip plans cause I’m not going, so if someone could reply for me:
jm2375 – I’ve heard nothing but good things about Wild Ginger. How would you compare it to other Thai establishments?
A-Sports, I am with you about the cold weather in San Francisco. I lived there for 4 months in 1968 Sept-Jan and hated the damp cold and the fog. So depressing when it got dark around 5 pm.
Click on this link to read my review of WILD GINGER RESTAURANT —
http://gigihawaii.wordpress.com/2007/11/26/wild-ginger-restaurant/
Jason – you might want to ask BHF2. He had extras.
Jason- between bhf2 and myself- there might be an extra ticket or two.
H-Bod – Re: Wild Ginger
My family says it’s more Chinese than Thai, and pricey. They said they’d be better off going to a Chinese restaurant the next time….
Really, Brew? We went there for lunch and spent less than $10 for the Lunch Special.
Thank you Aunty Gigi for the review! The fuud looks delicious!!! I see they also have brown rice – yummy!
My nephews were there and they had to get three orders of most things because the portions were…. so un-Tsaiko-like! 😆
Brew – thanks for the heads-up!
yep, the portions are small compared to Sam Choy’s portions! But, hubby and I left the restaurant feeling satisfied.
Hawaiianbod – the fuuud was as good as Mekong or better. We ordered a couple of dishes medium, but I didn’t think it was that hot. I’m a wuss when it comes to spicy dishes. We had lettuce wraps, spring rolls, eggplant with pork, thai basil beef, choi sum w/ lots of garlic, pad thai and crispy red snapper. I appreciate that they had brown rice too. We went with 7 people (only 2 males) and finished everything. The service was very good. Will definitely go back.
Three growing teenagers, plus a gen-X and the fuud doesn’t last…. These guys would make the Tsaikos proud! 😆
ok… all this fuud talk… better eat and take meds…
Huh? What does taking meds have to do w/ eating? Isn’t it kind of late? Eat, eat, eat, hiho…. 😆
Hi Liz!
I hope you whip that cold/flu soon. We want you in tip top shape for football season. Tom Yum soup. Wish I could send some to you. I hope you’ll accept a heartfelt get well sentiment, instead.
Gigi-
It’s a warm 76 degrees in the house. I think my internal alarm clock has reset. Woke up just before dawn and got to see the sun come up. I love that feeling. I hope tomorrow’s the same.
jm2375 – wow, you folks had a nice spread! You just made me craving for some guud Thai fuud.
It’s always nice when mom pays. 🙂
269!!!
WHITEY: sorry you got blanked on the fishing.
When I went up for a bar convention in Alaska, my partners encouraged me to go fishing. Unfortunately the clorox bottle was too heavy.
Asports, when the a/c thermometer shows 75 degrees, I put my sweater on. That’s cold to me!
We revisited S.F. in May about 12 years ago. Beautiful weather. It was sunny and there was no fog.
Hawaiianbod and LizKauai: Thanks! I messaged him back, encouraging him to come and post himself. 😀
Stretch/Koakane – you have mail.
so much olympics,
not enough tv’s and eyes.
Maybe “someone” brings the fog with her…. Eh, Addahknowsports? Haha! 😀 😯 😆
TV night
Watched Waipio win, Congrats guys!
Watched womens (childrens) gymnastics and felt dirty looking at the 13 year old Chinese girls in those tight little outfits.
I know they are supposed to be 15, but doubt it.
At least the American girls wear make up and look older
USA women’s v-ball getting absolutely SMOKED by Cuba! 🙄
On the ‘putor watched replays of Judo, no commentary and hard to find a specific match, but image is better than Hawaiian Telcom.
las vegas – you get good TV reception in the dog-house? 😆
brew,
how come you can watch that. we don’t have it on here till later tonight
Brew Baby,
Where you been?
Out of the dog house long time already.
But stand by, may be heading there pretty soon.
nah, LV moved from the dog house to the master bedroom. Right?
Mrs. LV enjoys riding in the new car.
USA vs CUBA is over already
Oops – sorry chawan and others. I guess I’m just ahead of my “time”. Women’s v-ball: nice to see three former Wahine and a Tom on the court at the same time – but still SMOKED!!!
las vegas – Maybe no dog-house, but when was the last time you visited L&L? 😆
Okay – I’m pau. I’ve probably overstayed my welcome….
😆 😀 🙂 OOOO>>>>>>>>•••••••••~~~~~~~esme!
Lua Tuiasosopo,
Thank you for the very informative, interesting post! I wish nothing but the best for your sons in their Warrior careers and Academic pursuits!
Too bad about the Wahine. It was such an honor to be chosen for the USA team.
Oops, forgot to change my username. I’m back in San Diego.
This article includes a video about how Bess is making an impact with the Dolphins!
Brew-
I’m hoping to take back some of the cold weather with me. I hear things are cooking back home.
By the way, the article includes a mention of why it is no shame for Samson to have trouble in practice with Ferguson. Ferguson was up against the other team’s starting center and he dominated.
Asports, it’s been really windy tonight. I had to close a window and am wearing a sweater right now.
Florida is changing their offense some…I hope that the Warrior coaches are aware of their new FB. Florida will be using their starting tailback as their FB also! I’m guessing this will be to get a faster receiver in the flat when they throw to the FB.
Hi Addahknowsports and brew808! I look forward to the next time we get a chance to talk story!
Hi Garret-
Glad to hear that you guys made it back home safely. Maybe you guys took some of the cold weather with you. Hope you can use it…San Diego can get kinda hot too, right?
Gigi-
I think your personal thermostat might be set a little lower, just like mine. I woke up this morning with frozen toes.
I gotta Esme too. No such thing as postcards anymore. Still emailing some friends.
Since not able to download pics here, will have to do it when get back home.
See you guys in a few! Whooooosh……..
Day off on Sat, so I went to pick up lunch at Aloha Kitchen.
After eating, bought a bento as a surprise for Mrs LV and delivered to her work place.
As soon a I walked in the door, she started fuming, Wanted to know why I spent so much on the debit card last week.
In a panic I couldnt remember what I bought and spent money on so I said that I need to go to the bathroom and sneaked out of the building.
After she came home that evening, she worked herself into a froth as she accused me of wasting money.(again)
It was not until she was asleep that I figured where the money went
300 bucks for Mrs LV’s monthly shopping trip to LA
60 bucks for gas (me)
42 bucks gas (her)
50 bucks friends’ sons wedding gift
14 bucks Longs’ kim chee sausage (4 packs)
11 bucks McDonalds (ok my fault)
Geeze, except for McDonalds and my gas, everything else was errands for her.
I like kick her as she stay sleeping, but the leg no reach that high.
Next time, I not doing her banking.
That is a funny statement coming from someone who we may not be able to verify is real! I saw the photo in SteveM’s site with your image blocked out!
On a serious note, you folks will know how truly good or bad a decision I made when stuff happens (or does not happen) later this year…
las vegas,
Wow! I hope that things get better for you when the Mrs. sees the numbers.
bighilofan2 —
Sorry for the late reply — ran into some friends in town, one thing led to another, yada yada yada, just got home. Here da scoop on restaurants in Waimea Sunday hours:
The Kalbi restaurant you were talking about is closed Sundays.
Kamuela Deli next door (pretty good plate lunches) is open ’til 2pm.
Hawaiian Style Cafe closes at 12 Noon Sundays (1:30pm weekdays).
Paniolo Country Cafe is open through dinner time, and the non-smoking section has tables that can be combined, so that might be the best bet yet.
If you like discuss this off-line, email me at jgchbph at hawaiiantel.net.
19 Days 8 hours (more or less) to Kickoff!! GO WARRIORS!! KICK GATOR ARSE!!
A hui hou kakou. (zzzzzzzz)
Conor —
You out there? I have some information about a cultural event that you and your family might really enjoy if it fits your schedule. Email me at jgchbph (at) hawaiiantel.net if you’re interested.
Addahknowsports,
The weather here is just fine. We are fairly near the ocean and have a constant light breeze, and the highs are forecast for between 74 and 76 this week, with the lows in the mid to high 60s. I love this weather!
When we moved here we lived in Poway for 2 months (July to September, pretty much the hottest time of the year) in an apartment with just a little wall AC unit in the living room. The bedroom had no AC and the wall AC in the living room couldn’t handle the summer heat and did no good. Opening the windows didn’t help and we were in a bad neighborhood so we couldn’t leave them open at night. That was hard for Lori and the kids to deal with!
Actually, Garret-
I think that image was blocked in since Brew was taking the picture.
LV-
You lucky she no read this blog.
LV disclosing all the above on the blog….priceless
Thanks Garret, When it’s my fault (and it usually is) repercussions tend to hang around for a while.
When she’s wrong, it’s my fault for not telling her right away or letting her know before hand (this time, I should have kept notes)
Good thing she’s a good cook
Free play link time. Please ignore my next 5 posts if you do not want the off-topic stuff.
This guy decided that this steel bench looked interesting…and got stuck! I didn’t want to watch the video, as the photos were pretty self-explanatory for what happened. Lori watched the video and said that the report talked about blood and then I pretty much stopped listening to what she said!
Interesting that Hawaiian Airlines had the best on-time record for any airlines. Even more interesting to me was that Southwest Flight 2709 (Houston Hobby to San Diego) arrived late 100% of the time, with an average delay of 50 minutes! Why don’t they just change the arrival time for that flight if they are going to have a 100% late record and they normally arrive about an hour late?
Americans were more likely to have tried pot or cocaine than people from any of the other 16 countries surveyed. 42% of Americans have tried pot while just 20% of people in the Netherlands (where pot is legal!) have tried it.
It turns out that the “fakeproof” e-passports that are being recommended for international airports can be cloned in just minutes. This University of Amsterdam researcher was able to put a photo of Bin Laden on a UK passport in a few minutes and have it pass a security check! It cost him just 60 pounds to create 2 fake passport chips, which calls into question the 4 billion pounds the UK plans to spend on identity cards that use the same type of chips.
This airplane that can be driven on the road is going after the light sport aircraft market, and it looks cool enough that it might have a good chance to become the latest “must-have” toy for the rich. It is good that it gets 27.5 mpg while flying and around 35 mpg on the road.

hokay- last installment of gimchi jigae – with brown rice and patele side. Now can take meds (yuck on empty tummy).
Nitey nite and sweet dreams, ka kou!
Garret-
Brrrrrr….
las vegas,
Hopefully things blow over quickly because it wasn’t your fault this time!
Addahknowsports,
That makes sense about the photo if brew took the photo. He was the one who sent photos to SteveM, so he would definitely not be in the photos!

Awesome. This will probably end up as the chosen mode of travel of all those superferry protest leaders.
A-Sports(SF),
I get better stories, but shame
Like the time Mrs LV backed up into the fence at Kahala Hilton after a couple of adult beverages.
HPD knocked on the house’s door next day,
Cop: Ma’am did you back your car into the chain link fence in the Kahala Hilton
Mrs LV: (thinking quickly) No, not me, I was home watching Dynasty.
Cop: Well, what about this? (Produces mangled license plate) This was stuck to the chain link fence.
Mrs LV: Maybe was my husband?
Addahknowsports,
If I go a little East, I can easily get temperatures in the 80s, 90s, and even over 100 (when we lived in Poway it hit over 100 more than half of the days). I much prefer the weather we get here. right now it is 80.1 degrees in the house and I have windows open to cool things down a little before we go to sleep.
Las Vegas I guess the Redskins jersey will be on the next billing.
RE Post # 303
Those holes are small, at least from my perspective
Before I forget–
Welcome to the Warriors Veni Manu!
BTW – da odda pepah has article on Krazy Karaoke.
LV-
Ayaaaaah! Maybe you better stop while you at least still have a doghouse to go to. Sorry, no encouragement was intended on my part.
Congratulations to the Beast for the praise from his coach!
Garret and Addahknowsports — had to represent brew in the only group photo I have…after all, it was the founding cattle call for the No-Cal (Northern California) Tsai-ko Chapter and it should have its PRESIDENT (brew808) indicated 😐
Right brew? I wouldn’t go through this trouble for anyone but you, my old friend! 🙄 BTW, Congratulations brew808!
Ralph,
next month I’m going to ask her to buy me the CB jersey for Christmas, at that price she’ll say ok and I’ll order it and hide it when it comes.
around november I’ll ask her to buy me a cat-back exaust system for Christmas. I think I have a 50% percent chance, as she will most likely forget about the jersey if she doesn’t see it in the house.
las vegas,
Lori said the same thing about that article–her exact words were “those holes look tiny!”
LV – I feel for you. You’re a good man!…and even a better husband.
Thans H Bod,
Those cuffs wern’t to tight.
I kid.
If not for Mrs LV, I probably would have spent myself homeless by now
Ahhh, jm2375, Tsai-kos experience Krazy Karaoke rather than read the odda pepah… 😐
But yet, I stay scared to get a haircut, bumbye get scolding for going to da expensive one.
richard??? someone more rascal than stretch????
nah….no can!
SteveM,
Been to Ritchies lately?
las vegas — went Ritchies a couple weeks ago — pork cutlet. Thought of you when I didn’t see the deep fried half chix on the menu…
sob, sniff
i heard that ritchie used to work at rainbow drive inn. thus the similarities in the menh and recipes.
i once met the owner of rainbow drive inn. he said the secret to a successful plate lunch operation was two fold. give plenty and make the best gravy.
true.
las vegas — been meaning to tell you– after all the outings at Genji’s, I finally saw someone order the deep fried chicken gizzards, besides you. Kekoa!
Al — so is the boneless chicken at Richie’s the same as Rainbow Drive Inn? Peaches likes the boneless chicken there but we haven’t been to Rainbow Drive Inn for many years….
where is Richie’s?
Ralph — Click here for map and address of Richie’s. On N. King Street between the Kapalama canal and the 96817 Post Office.
menh = menu
yes stevem. teriyaki beef, bnls chicken, etc, a lot of the stuff taste like rainbow’s. even the chili is quite similar.
lets see i just had a rainbow bnls chicken gravy all over last week with a side of chili. maybe i’ll go to ritchie’s this week just to re-confirm.
i’ll be doing this just for you steve.
hey this is like the old days.
with lv, stevem, on the night shift.
so where’s mojo to talk oldies and ltuh to talk well old stuff.
hahaa.
Al — if you going to Richie’s give me a call– I’ll be in the area except for Thursday. But trying to go there between 1100-1300 is very difficult–packed to the max. and no parking.
okay stevem.
i am thinking friday.
actually 1100 should be an okay time before the typical lunch cha wa.
one thing about stevem, when it comes to food he is always ready and willing.
ok, ok, me too.
Don’t forget the Florida game is on ESPNU at 7 a.m. tomorrow.
Al — I’m back to normal work sked this week, but I got some things to pass out to some of the cattle call regulars before Saturday…
Early work day tomorrow. Good night everyone!
Mojo is humming oldies to himself while wondering why nobody wants to stay at the Hilton University of Florida Conference Center. It’s about three miles from the stadium and across the street from a park and ride where the Gator shuttle runs before and after the game. Free high speed internet in room. Free parking. Kind of expensive at $225 per night. Hmmmm…..
florida game?
WM be really nice to wifey if you plan on paying $225 a night plus tax, daily tip..especially since she just found out about your plans…
USA women getting smoked by Cuban servers, it’s like watching the Wahines passing this past year-no mas…
wow Cuba is only ranked number 3 in the world, what is Brazil and Italy like?
oh….and remember the old adage…
“if you say you can’t, then you won’t”
doesn’t that pertain to our old recruiting philosophy about not recruiting and offering early because we can’t get the early commitments.
how we used to recruit after the season was over when in most cases it was too late baby.
so we used to say we can’t and we wouldn’t have any early commits because we never tried.
but, now look……mack understands recruiting and so he did and now we do.
i love it.
oh btw….that adage is something i tell my kids and those that i have mentored over the years whenever i heard them say, “i can’t do it!”

have a good nite all
gotta shower and eat bfast before going to da clinic.
we definitely need a few Cubans defecting to Hawaii in men’s and women’s volleyball and baseball- what a difference in athleticism…
Al did you tell your kids not to hit the enter key more than once for each posting
we have become spoiled by excellence in the past.
didn’t the wahine go 27-6 last year.
anyway, i believe we will be much improved this year. we’ve only lost juliana sanders. the big if, is, will be nickie thomas. has she come back from season ending surgery of last year. i got to talk to her in the orthopedic waiting room last year. let me tell you she is “hungry” after missing two years in a row due to injury. if healthy, she will make a huge difference in the block and team attitude.
kanani herring will be a starter at least by mid season and will be the newcomer of the year.
a weird thought would be to move kaaihue (our best libero) to setter where she would be a great leader. something we lack at that position.
Ralph – switch over and watch the beach volleyball.
lv…..take care my friend.
ralph…perhaps i may recommend a good optometrist. i think you have double vision.
Herring, Kaaihue and Cubi-Otineru are volleyball wise but under 5’10..it’s tough to play rally volleyball with short people…VB has become a power game – set, kill and if the other team, like the Wahines last year, can’t pass the game is won. Nebraska averaged 6’2+ the last few years, couple or 3 starters at 6’5. UCLA is like Hawaii, lots of skills but short and a good reason neither team went deep into the regionals the last few years…
ralph….it would be tough for cubans to come and play for universtity. their govt would not allow it.
however, i have been saying for a long time…..that we need to recruit in puerto rico. we had success before delgado, et al. why not seek women volleyballers as well.
baseball….their is wealth of players in puerto rico. as a territory of the usa their won’t be too many entrance problems and most speak the language.
but, who listens anyway.
last year team had a lot of firsts- one of which was the first to lose a WAC match and most glaring, the most lost by a team in a decade or more.
Al did you strain your neck looking up at Nickie….
ralph….i agree about the height thing. more so with our middles. herring will impress you with her hops and plays much taller with a reach of 10’2″.
what channel is the beach game on, I’m watching channel 8, it says live but I already new the swimming results of the VB game and USA beating France in swimming, how you figure….
yah ralph….and we were sitting down. to top it off, verwers was also there, they came on the same uh staff vehicle. two very nice kids.
i really felt for them because they expressed their disappointment.
Thomas and Keefe have had bad luck with injuries, this is their aloha year and I wish them well…I hope they earn some playing time, 5 years in Hawaii without seeing the court- Thomas red shirted her freshman year and since then she tore her ACL in consecutive years…
many are repeats. vb was much earlier today for example.
go to channel 1260. it shows what is on at the various stations, then you select the one you want to watch.
we use to recruit from Brazil, Lima was the last player we got and she was consistent and talented….BYU Hawaii had a lot of success with Brazilians and Brazil is rated number one in the world for women’s VB
Ralph – the beach volleyball finished just before the the indoor game did.
did you catch the mens 4X100 free relay earlier, what a finish that was.
Hopefully Herring transitions to D1 quickly, she has the VB IQ needed but D1 speed is a adjustment she will acquire with PT…Aneli did well in WAC play, but Middle Tenn was to quick, to athletic and went over her and her teammates…kaufman is a high jumper but her slide hitting, blocking and touches were subpar….hopefully our middles are dominant blockers, not just adequatem, we’ll see with Penn State coming in early in the season…
it may seem odd….but tara hittle could be the odd man out.
meanwhile…..this is going to be a critical week in football. many a question shall be answered or will have to be answered.
beginning with who’s the quarterback?
–will the coaches lean on funaki out of loyalty?
–or will they just pick the best man?
who’s going to settle in at left tackle? eh, the whole oline in fact?
–for that matter, the whole oline?
–altho estes and possibly ahsoon may be already entrenched at center and rg right now.
–will steiny stay at right tackle:?
–has lafu’s abscence hurt his one position at rg?
will mana silva remain the starter at safety?
what impact will the new wr’s make?
so many question marks. but, as pride. told me recently, he believes that the oline will do a good job this year. so, i trust him.
i believe that the oline will actually benefit from the fact that we will run the ball a lot more. this way dlineman will not be hell bent on rushing the passer and will actually do a bit more of sitting and reacting. which will make for an advantage to the oline.
i don’t have 1260
back to vb……
we really lacked the toughness, leadership, and talent of kanoe kamanao last year more than anything else.
we had no leaders on the court. the closest one was sanders, but, even she at times lost her cool when things went bad.
i foresee thomas, if healthy, to be that leader. i don’t think brandt nor mafua have it to be the leaders, something you really need in a setter. the setter is akin to the qb on a football team in my opinion. that is why, i think kaaihue could be a great setter.
we really missed the will to win. shoji knows that too.
the left side of the o line is so important, i’d like to see Pepa and Kia on the line at the same time…they seem to be more agressive on the 1 x 1 on Saturday. Let Ah Soon, Steiny, Thomas, Hisatake, T-Mariner and Ginlack battle for the other to slots on the right side…after the 1’s are picked, place the others slotted in the 2’s and 3’s with the other o linemen on the active roster…
sounds like hisatake is being groomed for next year as the lg.
letuli will start somewhere….probably at lt.
it could take a couple of games for us to settle in an oline.
Mafua is an athlete, someone Shoji feels he can train to be a good setter. Same instance as Vakasausau when she played at UH…both girls had limited experience as HS or club setting…Mafua set only her senior year-I read that somewhere, so she’s really a work in progress…Dave needs someone now….the game has changed, no longer siding out for a point, the power team with good passing will win even if they don’t have a setter like Kamanao or Ah Mow…
Hiflyer is like Esme, flys in, flys out….not even a tappity tap exit to the left…
recruiting….
you know that many of our jc recruits are trickling in. i have no doubt that many of them have immense talent. it looks they will all make it through except lacount who will grayshirt.
they late comers all had academic requirements to take care of, this was probably the reason why many schools backed off. but, they are here now and we can continue to be the school of second chances with this group.
I’m still here, just enjoying your guys insight between VB and FB.
some of the summer school guys will finish this week, but have not been accepted into UH and or received NCAA approval…one of them came to practice saturday, he has been accepted into UH and must seat out the mandatory 3 days before practicing. Remember Mouton, he had a late start until his transcript, etc got cleared up..and we don’t have a compliance guy, hopefully Amanda is up to speed and channels the paperwork quickly and press the JC to release the transcripts…
channel 8 KHNL is back to girls gym, USA has tennis, checking out MNBC-handball, korea vs germany, unusual game
i wonder how hard the ball is, the goalie doesn’t wear any gear and they whipped that ball into the goal
Poland playing the Chinese on MSNBC
esme out.
okay den time for go to bed
The late shift checking in from Japan. Finally back to NYC in the morning though. CAn:t wait to get updated on the football.
Loved the post from Lua Tuiasosopo. I,d rather get players from CA than NMS but UH should be a welcome haven for talent that is willing to work and sacrifice.
Haoles too. Colt proved that if you have something to offer and are humble, Hawaii will welcome you warmly. I guess I was thinking of that because I was explaining the concept of *kill haole day* to an Obama supporter.

Goor morning all, well the sky looks grey and lots of clouds, so I guess I get to put the paintbrushes away for the day and turn on the tv maybe watch some of the Olympics. Heard that the mens basketball team is struggling, maybe being a super star in the NBA isn’t as good as they think they are??
Aloha Kakahiaka, Tsaiko world!!!
Stephen ~ I’ll get something in the mail for you today.
Very cool to see all of the early offers & recruits. Way to go, Coach Mack!
Full recovery, Jake. Let it heal.
Great to see the Beast is getting some props.
Goor = Good
Wow, you guys are either up very early, or very late. Either way, good morning from the east coast!
I was glad to hear the kicking game is going well. Kelly is key this year. With the defense getting the ball and the o probaby still finding its utmost potential, FGs are going to be very important.
NYUH – Have you figured out how you’re going to watch the Florida game?
Pomai:
Thanks for the score-keeping. Dan Kelly:s first tiebreaker. 27-24.
Jayson,
ESPN gameplan but I havn:t signed up yet. Are you in NYC?
Nah, I wish I were in the city though. I am upstate, like very very upstate. You ever subscribe to gameplan before? I was planning on going that route also but I wanted to get some feedback from someone who was familliar with it. Do you know if they will show all the Hawaii games?
hi,
i get up as far as Goshen-Monticello and Poughkeepsie on the other side of the river?
I always do Gameplan. I get to see a lot of UH games, especially when they are not playing on the ESPNESPN2 venues.
Catching a plane home in a few hours, will check your reply when I:m home Jayson.
Good Morning Tsaikos!!
Less than 3 weeks until kickoff!! Not much time to get the offense clicking and the boys in condition.
Man, its already getting cold up here.

Aloha Kakahiaka!
Have to run an errand, then back to sleeping, eating, tv, blog, meds, sleep…. zzzzzz
Have a great day/ safe traveling, etc!
Morning Stretch!
Good Morning Jayson…
Need to leave for work now, I’ll be back on a little later.
Good Morning Tsaiko Village! Hope everyone had a great weekend.
Good morning Tsaikos everywhere!
19 days, exactly, and I’ll be sitting in da Swamp.
LUA TUIASOSOPO
thank you so much for your post last evening. you reminded us that great athletes have feelings and family. and like our team players, we Tsaikos have to act like good team players. I resolve to be more careful with my biting wit when it comes to my trying to encourage/motivate our Warriors when I feel the urge to share sarcasm from Hilo. sorry from me, and I hope my Tsaiko friends read between her lines. Thanks again Lua. You are a role model for me.
Okay, gotta go work. sjmacro, hold the fort down for bradda BHF2. give da hard working Warriors da eye. encourage em to work samoa.
btw LUA, one ah da worst days in my life was sitting in da SB in NOLa and hearing a bunch a UGAs yellin in unison “overrr rayy tedd” over and over and over. Us Tsaikos have pride in ourselves, our people, our Nation. So forgive some ah da braddaz if the sharp tongue motivator did more harm than good to the athletes and their families. we trying fo “help.” 😀 okay, nuff.
hiho hiho Esme woooossshhh
Ralph… The ball in handball is like a #3 soccer ball (the kind 5-6 year olds play with). I lived in Paraguay for a couple of years and Handball was the top sport for girls. I haven’t seen it played in the olympics, but it was a pretty rough game in the barrio.
ST on Leaheys now.
The sport was played in Hawaii for awhile– in Kailua.
There was an ex UH football player– a DB– who was on the olympic team and a girl from Kailua made the olympic team about 10 years ago.
The sport is less like handball than soccer or hockey, you throw the ball into the net like water polo. Lots of jumping and throwing.
Looks like fun.
Howzit Tsawaiianz-
Blue Skies in the bay area. Just a few past 10:30 here and it’s already scorching. Big difference than just from a few days ago.
Have a great day everyone.

Tsaiko Ohana-
Thank u for the “Aloha” really appreciate it! Bighilofan2…please don’t apologize braddah…ALL of u are more than entitled to share ur thoughts without fear of retribution! Constructive criticism is good. Sometimes our emotions get the best of us “I PERSONALLY” know this through experience, and we say things out of mere FRUSTRATION! The Tsaiko’s/Tsaikette’s have earned the right to SPEAK their minds…in a NICE way:) Bighilofan2, if there was anything offensive said “I didn’t see anything”…My husband & I are hands on FOOTBALL PARENTS and like to see what’s being thrown around in cyber space! Please don’t SPARE ur thoughts from my critiqueing our “Tuiatua” We know as his Mom & Dad that he has some SERIOUS WORK to do to EARN his playing time! But…we also know that if given the opportunity…he can PLAY with the BIG BOYS! We also know that if “Tuiatua” is LAZY & doesn’t give 100% he deserves what’s coming his way.
Thank u guys for the “Aloha Spirit”…sorry, gotta run…we’re already 1 hour late for Warrior Football Practice…n hubby n Ana Jr is not appreciating it at all:)
Have a great week Tsaiko’s/Tsaikette’s! God Bless!
