Washington crosses the deltoids. … OK, OK. I tried to go with the bad pun until the office folks told me I don’t know where the deltoids are located. So, anyway, this is slotback Michael Washington striking a pose:

Greg McMackin said graduate assistant Brian Kajiyama will coordinate the football team’s study program.
McMackin said Kajiyama “still has similar responsibilities as last year in helping us prepare for ball games.”

sports6.jpgBrian Kajiyama

Kajiyama who is in a wheel chair because of cerebral palsy, assisted in providing video and computer scouting reports. He also monitored the kickers’ workouts.
McMackin added: “He and I have talked, and we’re excited about what he’s going to do this year.”
UH is reopening the “Verizon Room,” a computer lab that had been restricted in recent years. Kajiyama will help coordinate the study program in that room.
Kajiyama, who joined the UH coaching staff as a graduate assistant last year, has a master’s degree.

We feel your pain.
it’s June, and you have a jones for UH sports.
Here’s how to get your fix this summer:
• Watch the unsupervised football workouts at 2 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Remember standing in those long autograph lines? Beat the rush. Future stars are available for autographs.
• Watch the “Rainbow Celebration,” K5’s Saturday night replays of the top UH sporting events of the past year. The best part for fans? Every airing has a happy ending.
• Attend NCAA Summer League basketball games. The competition is good, and there’s always plenty of good seats.
• Sign up for the volleyball camp for adults, sponsored by the Warrior coaching staff and some players. At the end, you get an evaluation of your talents.
http://hawaiiathletics.com/Camp/campinfo.html?cid=156.
• NCAA Football ’09 hits the stores July 15. Most interesting part of the game? Learning EA Sports’ prediction for UH’s starting quarterback.

ncaa-game.jpg

• Know how everybody acts like a recruiting know-it-all?
Now you can be one. Attend the UH football camps this summer. Most of the state’s top high school seniors will be there. You can see them go through drills. Then you can tell everybody how Manti Te‘o is the real deal.

ST good to see a follow up write up on BrianK after last night’s unfounded rumor…quick action nips the rumor in the butt and I’m sure bonar feels bad after picking on a nice guy like brianK .

  15. Pomai June 2, 2008 2:31 am

ST for those of us who haven’t been to any of the practices, can you give us an idea of what kind of conditioning drills the team does? One thing is do they all(linemen included) run gasser’s?

Back in the day when they used stone for the score board we would team up with 8 guys on a team, then four guys would be on the 40 and 4 on the goal line, the first guys on the goal line would run full steam to his team at the 40 tag his guy then that guy would run to the goal line tag his guy, and that would happen till all the guys ran the forty full speed, that would make up one set and we would do that for about 10 sets, then as the practices went on they move to the 50 then 60 and so on, that by the end of the season we where running hundred yard sprints, now do they do that now a days also?

  16. bighilofan2 June 2, 2008 3:27 am

There is a cool Google Earth Plugin now available for Internet Browsers. Unfortunately for SteveM and others, it is only available for Windows computers now. With this, there are 30 or so college stadiums around the country where you can check out the stadium and 3D animation…and Aloha Stadium is one of those stadiums!

  19. Garret June 2, 2008 4:14 am

    ST,

Thank you for all of the info on Brian K’s new role. One good thing that came out of the stuff posted last night is that we got to know this info on Brian K!

  20. Garret June 2, 2008 4:18 am

Discussion of Miami’s WRs of course mentioned Bess.

Already thin at wide receiver, the Dolphins might need to start looking toward adding another veteran to their roster as a result of a recent injury to Tab Perry that caused the team to cut him. Perry tore his Achilles’ tendon during an organized team activity last week.

Although Perry wasn’t expected to fill one of the top three receiver spots, the team was hoping his contributions as a return man on special teams would make him worthy of a roster spot. Now, it will be up to David Kircus, Greg Camarillo, Davone Bess and Jayson Foster to step into one of those receiving roles as training camp approaches.

The Dolphins are not actively searching for a veteran as of yet, but the scouting department will certainly still have the position high on its priority list if an attractive option becomes available.

  21. bighilofan2 June 2, 2008 4:19 am

an no foget da halftime, not goin get chance fo drive Shoney’s Big Boy to get extra ice. An da hometown advantage, Warrior Nation get 5,000 btu, Florida get 100,000. An da AC and da ice maykah. 24. NYUH June 2, 2008 5:40 am

It would be great if Lelie went to Miami. He is obviously not getting the respect in SF. Glad Leonard Peters is getting some in Chicago.

We were talking about not having 2 RBs in Lee’s offense but I forgot about having Pilares as a slotback. If they start rolling out from center, the reverse direction handoff to the SB could be interesting.

  25. Loa June 2, 2008 5:59 am

    morning NYUH, bighilo, Garret !

ST – thanks for the update on Brian and good luck with the mediations
NYUH – would be interesting to see Lelie in Miami although we have a lot of SF fans in Hawaii
bighilo – mahalo for the wake up calls as usual, i get nightmares thinking of gassers
Garret – i will need to check out the GE plugin

everyone have a safe and happy day

    Great Morning All.

Good Luck to BrianK in his expanded role.

  29. Annoddah Dave June 2, 2008 6:44 am

    ST & Tsaiko Blog Dogs,

Good to hear that Brian will have a bigger role, especially in the academic aspects. The success of the sports program is ultimately tied to graduation and the pursuit of knowledge.

  30. d1shima [sez:] June 2, 2008 6:48 am

Volleyball camp for adults sounds challenging.

Maybe bettah fo’ Kekoa and Mrs. Kekoa set-up one Tsaiko Volleyball Camp fo’ Tsaiko-challenged adults. Hoo, can feel da muscles all tight already. 😉

    Have a great week Tsaikos!

  31. Stephen Tsai June 2, 2008 6:54 am

Volleyball camp would be OK since it’s set up for different skill levels.
We’re thinking of starting a writer’s camp. Oh, wait, I meant writer’s cramp.

  32. Stretch June 2, 2008 6:55 am

    Good Morning Tsaikos!!

Re: Rainbow Celebrations…. I like happy endings!!

Brian K is such an inspirational person. If we could all be like him, we would all be success stories.

  36. Maverick June 2, 2008 7:24 am

    Happy Muunday gang-

Awesome to hear about Brian K’s continue’d involvement, and being able to ramp UP with the facilities.

Though I will follow closely with SMU’s progress this year, and hopefully get to watch a televised game, I’m not gonna Jones on June. I prefer to see our “Mac” unleash a Pataaack on the opponents. Awe man, sure gonna miss Jacob the Warrior this coming season.

St – very clever on the “June”saying, above.

  37. SIMPLE June 2, 2008 7:27 am

  39. Stretch June 2, 2008 7:33 am

ST – what happened to the HA discussion/blog on the Sugar Bowl list?? It was on the front page of the HA website and now, no can find.

  40. Kekoa June 2, 2008 7:38 am

    Good Morning Tsaiko Villagers!
d1 – Volleyball cramp is more realistic at this stage for me and the Mrs. However, I know I could enlist my nephew Pono Ma’a to instruct the Tsaikettes, and his wife Lisa Strand for instructing the men of the Tsaiko Village. There’s a possibility that volleyball might happen as a result!

  41. Maverick June 2, 2008 7:47 am

    ooops –
Meant “Jake” the Warrior. Beowulf will give me scoldings for saying Jacob.
btw, any sitings of Beowulf lately? the Patek ohana needs to be honored in this blog with jake’s number

  44. J-DOG June 2, 2008 8:15 am

    re: Silver Helmets

yeah, it was dumb that the x-box 360 version always made UH wear the silver helmets, even with the home unis.

  45. will-i-am June 2, 2008 8:16 am

Our Quarterbacks: Funaki, Graunke, Alexander Rausch, Jantz, Austin. Are there any others I am missing.

  46. Stephen Tsai June 2, 2008 8:17 am

Not sure what happened with those discussions.
They actually don’t consult with me on A-1 matters. Or other matters, to be honest.
For instance, if they wanted to know who went on the trip, I think me, Stretch and the A-Houses could have provided a list. We met everybody in NOLA.

  47. Stephen Tsai June 2, 2008 8:17 am

    Will-i-am:
You’re missing Jake Santos, Bryant Moniz, Kiran Kepo‘o and Bryce.

  48. Stretch June 2, 2008 8:20 am

ST – how come you only listed Bryce?? You didn’t want to spell Kalauokaaea wrong??

  49. g-nalo June 2, 2008 8:21 am

    morning all!

    fidieth?

  50. g-nalo June 2, 2008 8:22 am

    g-nalo – NOPE

  52. g-nalo June 2, 2008 8:26 am

    adda so

  53. marlis June 2, 2008 8:27 am

Well you can always count on someone for asking, maybe me?

Everything I’m reading about BrianK seems to be a euphemisms. And even reading from the coach, “Brian has expanded role”.

But the question, I ask, and maybe others: Is his status and title as “graduate
assistant” remain intact. Reading the little information I see, it’s ambiguous if he’s still a graduate assistant. Or delegated to volunteer assistant with a expanded role.

  54. Stretch June 2, 2008 8:31 am

Re: Brian K – if he has his master’s degree, does that mean he graduated?? If so, he is not eligible to be a GA since they supposed to be enrolled in school. I guess he could take more classes but I think it would be more effective to have him do other stuff and bring in another GA. I don’t think he needs the GA pay to survive since it is minimal already. I can’t speak for him but I think he just wants to be around the team.

  55. gigi-hawaii © June 2, 2008 8:41 am

brian is a ph.d. grad student.

  56. gigi-hawaii © June 2, 2008 8:42 am

    brian is still a student.

  57. sjmacro June 2, 2008 8:45 am

Good AM Tsaikos: Thanks Garret for link in comment 18. The Google map is great. Only thing is the satellite map shows baseball configuration of the stadium which is no more. sjmacro

  58. Stephen Tsai June 2, 2008 8:50 am

That’s exactly right. I don’t know the spelling off the top of my head, and I couldn’t Google it while trying to post.

  59. James June 2, 2008 9:00 am

    Good morning gang…

Good to hear about Brian K. Mr. A-House and I were talking about Steele Jantz (Man what a cool name) yesterday. Looks like he may be a good prospect QB, especially since he is a Freshman and can grow into the role. Anyone know what his stats were in high school and what hs division in Cali did he play in?

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  60. James June 2, 2008 9:01 am

gigi…d1 is making his bio just like yours….except he isn’t talking about his muu muu….TMI….mwahahahahahahaha

  61. Stephen Tsai June 2, 2008 9:02 am

    gotta go gotta goooooo….

    james, stretch play nice

  67. I Believe June 2, 2008 9:29 am

    aloha kakahiaka kakou- busy morning-

great to learn of BrianK continuing on and I second what someone said about watching certain players who may encounter potential academic difficulties- better to nip in the bud early than later when it might be too late-

follow-up on AC – wow! Had no idea that he had donated $100,000 for scholarships at UH- I knew he donated a lot and I knew he donated for scholarships, but I am even more impressed with him now that I know the amount and already got a thank you note off to him- He is also the first spokesperson for the national “I Have a Dream” Foundation!

as for Tsaiko Volleyball…in my return to soccer I have advised teammates that I am no longer an offensive player and am, instead, a zone player (if the ball comes in my zone, I will get it- otherwise the ‘guys’ in front of me and in back of me will have to do so- that is why I switched to middle)…so, if we can play zone for V-Ball, then I am in!

Kekoa- how absolutely wonderful that Pono is your ‘ohana- he was son’s dorm advisor (with Ke’olu) advisor and we love him and Lisa- have wanted to send him a note to congratulate him for taking over…was it Admissions or Boarding?

  68. d1shima(tilted) June 2, 2008 9:39 am

    gigi,

    sent it yesterday.
no pic though. get plenny around already. maybe one of beau?

  69. Jason June 2, 2008 9:39 am

Again, great to hear that Brian will be sticking around.

Okay, want to know what I’m doing to pass the time? I told some of the guys at Nancy’s — I’m going through old press releases, finding out information on every UH football player that has started in the past nine years. From there, I’m going to make a site where the Tsaikos can use this information to vote for a UH all-star team, which I will create in NCAA Football 08 (PS2).

(Stephen: I’d like to borrow some media guides, if I could. I need to get stats, and it’s hard to get accurate stats for the older players.)

Speaking of video game football, ratings for QBs in Madden NFL 09 are out. Colt is a 73 OVR; 66 SPD; 55 AWR; 87 THP; 86 THA.

And if you didn’t hear, UH will be a 77 OVR in NCAA Football 09; 75 OFF, 80 DEF. Here is a screenshot of the top players.

NYUH: I would disagree about Lelie in SF. Jim Hostler was an idiot who never deserved to be offensive coordinator, and although some people like Jerry Sullivan as a long-time WR coach, I’m not his biggest fan. I think Lelie’s going to get a better shot this year, though, people have been talking about him. With the recent FA signings, however, he’s going to have to earn playing time.

  70. Larzi2 June 2, 2008 9:46 am

    ZOE!!! So cute!

  71. d1shima(tilted) June 2, 2008 9:50 am

    I Believe,
I think many of the Tsaikos wouldn’t mind being “zone” players as well. Although sometimes I’ve been told I can be quite “offensive”
    😉
btw, aren’t Midfielders usually expected to cover the largest area of the pitch?

  72. James June 2, 2008 9:59 am

BTW…forgot to mention to Ralph…yeah, I’ll be trying to coordinate away game viewings again this year. The first game will be a doozy as it will air around 630 – 730 a.m. from what I understand…..so, we either party the night before and stay up to watch the game or we have a breakfast game watching somewhere….still trying to figure that out…..

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  73. koakane™ June 2, 2008 10:02 am

    test

  74. James June 2, 2008 10:03 am

oh oh…koakane is at it again….all that testing isn’t good for him…mwahahahahahaha

  75. James June 2, 2008 10:04 am

d1…I would say if the Tsaikos played zone, we’d cover the entire length of the pitch….mwahahhahhhahaha

  76. Jason June 2, 2008 10:05 am

    Party at gigi’s house?

  77. Da Punchbowl Kid June 2, 2008 10:06 am

So Brian K. is back, bigger and better than before. Good news, dat.

al needs to post some pictures of his grand puppies on Leslie’s blog. What a perfect place for them to debut.

  78. Hoohiki June 2, 2008 10:07 am

    Pomai,
I tried to open the link to the bios but it seems like I need to register first because it asked for a password. Can you clue me in on how to get on?

  79. Stretch June 2, 2008 10:08 am

James – If I recall correctly, didn’t Koakane offer his house for the Florida game?? Party his house Friday night and just stay up until game time??

  80. Hoohiki June 2, 2008 10:09 am

I think I’m a little behind on the news…Did Bess make it on the Miami roster? No more cuts?

  81. homey ® June 2, 2008 10:10 am

    Good morning anybody!

Stretch – I didn’t see anything, did you?

    Good news on Brian K.

Nice UH clothing on that dog. Is that dog a yapper? Somehow, I think all little dogs are yappers.

  82. James June 2, 2008 10:10 am

Stretch..I think that’s what we talked about on Saturday. Koakane wanted to do some “testing” of different kinds of liquids all night…and than have breakfast/cookout and watch the game…. 🙂

  83. James June 2, 2008 10:12 am

    homey…I’m not just anybody….mwahahahhaha

Jason…gigi’s house?? Have you been there before??? ha ha

  93. Jason June 2, 2008 10:22 am

Hoohiki: Still get plenty of time before the major cuts get made. Davone is still with Miami, but teams don’t need to cut down to 53 players for a few months.

  94. James June 2, 2008 10:23 am

hoohiki….Bess is still alive for now…but NFL teams haven’t made all their cuts yet. That will take place more towards the fall when they have to trim their rosters…..

  95. homey ® June 2, 2008 10:26 am

Hoohiki – This is only the beginning. There will be more cuts until the teams reach the final roster size.

I think for spring training the roster size is 80 signed players and when the season starts the roster gets trimmed to 53 and only 47 suits up for games. The others are on the practice squad. Anyone know for sure? I could be outdated with my thinking…which happens all the time.

  99. g-nalo June 2, 2008 10:39 am

Since ST is starting up the BIO’s again, for all those who have not read all the previous BIO’s just click on the link (my name) and it will take you to a page that has all the past BIO’s most with pictures of the person too!! Not all have pictures but am trying to get them up as we go.

Pomai – was reading a few bio’s and find it very interesting, mahalo for the link. my question is who writes the intro’s?

  100. Stretch June 2, 2008 10:39 am

James – If you ask g-nalo, you only need to “refresh” once a week.

  101. al June 2, 2008 10:40 am

    koakane…
do you have a/c throughout the household?
are your floors constantly being cleaned by a roomba?
do you have beck’s in the cooler?
    what about nutri-system pupus?
will you provide pre-game and half-time bowling tournaments?
and more importantly do you have a 52″ bravia tv???

if you have answered in the affirmative in all of the above or in fact have a one upmanship on the aforementioned then the party is at your place!!!!!

    congratulations!!!!

  102. Jason June 2, 2008 10:40 am

My understanding of the roster restrictions is this: You can have 80 players on the active roster during the offseason. After the 3rd preseason week, the cut goes down to 65. After the fourth week, it goes down to 53 on the active roster. Of those 53, only 45 can be active on game day. One of the 8 inactive players can be designated as the emergency QB, who can come in only if QBs #1 and #2 are injured. In addition to the 53 roster players, you can have eight practice squad players.

  103. homey ® June 2, 2008 10:41 am

    g-nalo – Where’s the BIO’s. Hey, doesn’t BIO have another meaning?

  117. I Believe June 2, 2008 10:56 am

d1- well, I guess I would rather be offensive than defensive…and I am sure that there are many who would not label you as offensive (when used THAT way)…as for middle…I think most coaches and players would agree that strongest players are positioned in middle…strikers, mid-field, and defense…but when I coached I would put my strongest offensive players as wings as it really takes a lot to know how far into corner you can go and still strike with any chance of ball going into net…and knowing when to drop ball back or cross for an inside striker to take over…many players, even those who are experienced enough to know better, will continue to try to strike from the corner when there is no chance in he– of the ball EVER going in from that angle…and it gets irritating because it totally defeats all the work which just went into advancing the ball to be able to strike…

As for my choice of position in these later years….while it is true that the midfield covers a lot of field, since I am now to right or left,I can ‘jog’ (rather than run) cuz get ‘hot to trot’ people in front of me to drop back and pick up and get the ‘diehards’ who will clean up for me behind me…and lest you think I am being lazy, I used to be a hot to trot and then switched to diehard…so it’s more a matter of acknowledging age and weight for now…but hope springs eternal…I may return to front one of these days…but not holding my breath since beloved husband tells me I am too old and too fat and have had too many knee surgeries to be playing at all- what support!

  118. al June 2, 2008 10:57 am

I Believe – Is that why James barks all the time?

Just the other day this chihuahua comes charging from a house barking and growling as I was walking my dogs. It tried to nip at my dogs legs but my dogs just kept sniffing it and didn’t retaliate back. I think my dogs knew that they could’ve killed that dog with a small kine bite.

The owner was all hysterical. She should teach her dog some control or one day that dog is going to yap at the wrong dog.

Looking at the future UH football schedules with out of league opponents, who
(laughing to myself, and meaning no respect to the other team) would schedule Charleston Southern again-as noted 2011 ?

This past year it was a miserable game to watch. Even winning 66-10 the announcers were bemoaning the fact that we’re playing such a lousy opponent. So the question is do we have to play them again?
Offering feedback for fill ins, I rather UH play teams like Wyoming, Colorado St., TCU, Vanderbilt, Utah, UTEP, Troy, UCF, BYU, Rutgers…almost any other team than CS.

    Please no Charleston Southern again.

Looking at 2012-2015 it looks like BYU has Boise State scheduled for these years.

    HAWAI’I
    WARRIORS

    HAWAII FOOTBALL FUTURE SCHEDULES

    2009

  140. homey ® June 2, 2008 11:39 am

marlis – it was probably an agreement made to CS since they gladly accepted to play Hawaii as a late replacement. They made a lot of money playing the Warriors. Maybe they will be paid off if UH can schedule another D1 opponent.

Awright BrianK! If he decides to stick with football after getting his Ph.D., I can see him being an assistant coach before long. And I can’t wait to see his impact on the Mean Green Kicking/Punting Machine™ this season.

BTW, how did your golf practice session go? Hitting those 200 yard drives yet?

  212. gigi-hawaii © June 2, 2008 3:12 pm

homey, I think the clubs my uncle gave me are too long for me. I find myself gripping them down the handle far from the top of the shaft. However, I managed to hit a few high in the air and far. Usually, the ball flies low to the ground and bounces.

  213. James June 2, 2008 3:12 pm

    homey…I think those are 200 yard puts….mwahahahahha…but I shouldn’t talk, I don’t play golf except for miniature kine…

Chad Owens is playing right now on ESPN2 for the Arena Football League’s Chicago Crush.
He already has a TD catch and a 30 yard kickoff return (which is a lot in the AFL).
too bad their qb isn’t so good. not very accurate.

  274. chawan_cut June 2, 2008 5:30 pm

chad owens with another TD catch. this one was one handed over the shoulder.

  275. chawan_cut June 2, 2008 5:39 pm

oh wait, he plays for the Colorado Crush.

i miss orange crush. and no, not the denver broncos d-line. don’t know why they don’t sell that soda here in the islands anymore. i’ve seen it on the mainland. same thing with RC cola.

chad with another nice KO return, tried to lateral it to a teammate who had stone hands who fumbled it, but chad was able to recover.

the announcers called him Mr. Excitement.

  276. chawan_cut June 2, 2008 5:41 pm

wow, i scared everyone away. did i fart?

  277. chawan_cut June 2, 2008 5:50 pm

these announcers love chad. they said he could have the “devon” (as in hester) factor, and would make opposing teams kick away from him.
also, chad still got his moves. juked the shoes out of one defender.
and they just showed some of his UH highlights and his records for KO & punt TD returns.

  278. wafan June 2, 2008 5:51 pm

  286. Garret June 2, 2008 6:46 pm

The turnover for college football coaches is amazing! Coaches have to win right away or their jobs are in danger.

There will be 18 new coaches in Division I-A this season. If recent history is a guide, a good bet is that more than half of them will be gone by the time the 2013 season rolls around.

In the past six years, 2003 through this offseason, there have been 101 coaching hires. Almost 25 percent – 23 coaches – no longer are in those jobs, for various reasons. But that “almost 25 percent” total is somewhat misleading – on the low side.

Consider that more than half those hires (53 of them) have been made in the past three years. Throw those out and of the other 48 hires, 21 coaches no longer are in those jobs. That’s a staggering 44 percent.

And when you consider just “Big Six” schools, the numbers are even worse. From 2003-05, there were 27 coaching changes made at “Big Six” schools – and 14 of those coaches already are gone. That’s 52 percent.

It used to be standard operating procedure that a coach would get five years to implement his plan. In essence, that’s one recruiting class going through school, from freshman season through a senior year (including redshirting).

    That’s not SOP anymore.

“First-year coaches are expected to win right away,” new Houston coach Kevin Sumlin told Rivals.com’s Tom Dienhart last month. “That’s why we were hired. It doesn’t matter if it’s fair or not. The days of the ‘five-year plan’ are over.”

  287. Garret June 2, 2008 6:47 pm

    chawan_cut,

Thank you for the Chad Owens updates! He’s having an awesome game, even better than his excellent level of play lately. He had great receiving and returning stats last week, but it sounds like this week is going even better due to the TDs.

  288. Garret June 2, 2008 6:53 pm

JJ sure has bad luck with ADs. We know what he had at UH with HF and how he basically couldn’t stand HF at the end. Well, he probably likes SMU’s AD, who has done an amazing job at raising money and upgrading their facilities. However, now SMU’s AD is on the short list of candidates for Notre Dame’s AD spot.

Not only has SMU’s AD done a great fundraising job and upgraded their coaches (the basketball coach hire was a very high-profile hire also), but he was the captain of Notre Dame’s 1977 football team that won the National Championship. My guess is that he’s gone if Notre Dame offers him the AD job…and then JJ will be a coach that isn’t one of the guys that the new AD hired. And those types of coaches are typically put on a short leash.

I wonder if HF would apply for the SMU AD job if it opened up. And I *really* would like to hear JJ’s “recommendation” for HF.

    Anonymous: re #290.

Firstly, congrats to BrianK for his new assignment.

2nd. Yes, he should have a new job title. This opens up the GA

coaching spot so that a coach can be hired to help out on the field.

Due to the large number of players involved, help is needed in coaching

    the DB’s, or LB’s, or the O-line.

Let’s see how this plays out in the weeks ahead.

  292. Kekoa June 2, 2008 7:16 pm

Months ago, I bookmarked the Bios page on SteveM’s website, but I can no longer access it. I was told to register, but when I did, it told me that the User Name is already taken.

What happens next? How does this get corrected. Mahalo for your help.

Followup to yesterday’s post about Wahine Volleyball tix. Prices for individual games are evidently being reduced especially for weeknight games, but the details aren’t yet available.

Is anyone interested in seeing if it would be possible to hold a Tsaiko-sponsored post-practice event for both the football and the volleyball teams sometime in mid-August on campus?

The first two steps would be to clear such activities with the coaches and the Compliance Guy.

If this is something you’d be interested in checking out, then please post your answer here. If more than two or three people respond, then perhaps we could talk about it at either the June 19 or July 10 event.

    Off to another meeting.

    Chad Owens is back !

Playing for the Colorado Crush in the Arena Football League, Chad Owens showed he still has it with a spectacular performance in front of a national audience on ESPN. He had over 300 all purpose yards, with five TDs. Two of those TDs were incredible one hand catches in the end zone, and another TD came on the opening kickoff of the second half.

Sporting a Mohawk and with his head fully tattooed in a tribal design, he was the star of the game. After one score the camera focused in on Chad who said, “See, I still got it”, and he does. Not only did he have a great game, but the commentators said only good thing about him. They talked about the University of Hawaii, they showed clips of him playing at Aloha Stadium, and they talked about his NCAA records. They even mentioned Timmy Chang.

It was the Chad Owens’ show. He returned every kickoff of the game, and was a starting receiver, and his name was mentioned every other play. Chad Owens is back, and he still got it!

  297. gigi-hawaii © June 2, 2008 7:57 pm

St – ahh, yes, the BIO’s!! Who’s on tap for Thursday and Friday??

  305. Stretch June 2, 2008 8:45 pm

ST – the pics are great, no matter if you don’t know how to use the zoom.

  306. SteveM June 2, 2008 8:52 pm

ST, your photos are very good. Even your close-up food pix came out better than mine and I was using macro setting… 🙂 OK, don’t ask…bottom line is you very well with your camera. Don’t change it.

  307. Pomai June 2, 2008 8:53 pm

Capitol -ist/WassupDoc: Months ago, I bookmarked the Bios page on SteveM’s website, but I can no longer access it. I was told to register, but when I did, it told me that the User Name is already take

Doc you registered with the site already so you just have to log in. If you still have problems email me pomai at tsaikos.com

  308. Stephen Tsai June 2, 2008 8:58 pm

I have a surprise lined up for Thursday.

  309. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc June 2, 2008 9:15 pm

Short meeting, thank goodness, because the cold is still hanging in there. We volunteered someone who did not attend to chair a major fundraiser in late August so going to it turned out to be the right thing to do after all.

    SteveM:

Sorry – I didn’t know there were two sets of biosites. The one I was registered for but cannot access without Pomai’s help is http://tsaikos.com/forum/index.php?name=Content&cid=3

Are your bios the same as on the above site? I don’t remember ever providing any bio information to anyone on either site which is confirmed by a quick visit to yours.

    Sorry for the confusion.

  310. SteveM June 2, 2008 9:20 pm

Seemed very hot today with the A/C down in my work building today. Came home tired and kept falling asleep in my chair. Still groggy, so I’ll try to sleep early tonight.

    Good night, everyone!

    errr…unless I wake up in a few hours 😕

  311. Jason June 2, 2008 9:23 pm

WassupDoc: Reposting this one more time for you:

I forgot to mention this earlier. If you want a recommendation for a good Web host, try PolurNet Communications. My friend uses them, and she likes them so much that I decided to use them for my church Web site too. Prices are reasonable; although I’m not sure how much space and bandwidth you need for your sites. You might want to check out their site, and if you have questions you can always e-mail me. (And yeah, get a free e-mail acct, even as a backup.) I hope things start to improve for you. And thanks again for the present; you really didn’t have to.

  312. Pomai June 2, 2008 9:36 pm

WassupDoc the BIO’s are done here on the blog, then all I do is copy and paste them on the other site so that they are all in one spot, so that if people miss them on the blog they can always go to Tsaikos.com where they are all together.

  313. stacyj June 2, 2008 9:39 pm

Love to lurk…love the pictures. Don’t change a thing ST.

  314. stacyj June 2, 2008 9:41 pm

yeah! looking forward to reading more bios. The tsaikos are one interesting group of people with so much knowledge.

  315. Garret June 2, 2008 10:01 pm

One undrafted free agent for Miami (I think his signing was announced the same day they announced Bess’ signing) has *retired* already.

In a surprising move, Dolphins college free-agent rookie Kory Robertson has decided to retire rather than pursue a career in the NFL.

Robertson, a 6-foot-4, 345-pound defensive tackle out of Virginia Tech, told his agent, Tony Paige, that he didn’t, “have the fire to do it.”

“I counseled him for a long time and told him he had a really good chance as an athletic, 345-pound man, but it’s got to be in your heart,”

Paige said that Robertson’s decision had nothing to do with coach Tony Sparano or vice president of football operations Bill Parcells, and in fact, the Dolphins tried to talk him out of retiring

  316. Garret June 2, 2008 10:03 pm

I’d be surprised if 82% of UH students even know they pay fees for a student-run newspaper. And considering how many are printed (and wasted), I doubt 82% of the students on campus are reading it.

  323. Garret June 2, 2008 10:09 pm

I am really looking forward to d1shima’s bio! I was lucky enough to briefly sit with him at a table during a Cattle Call, but I had to take care of my daughter so I didn’t get a chance to talk with him and learn more about him.

The Olympics start in Beijing, China on August 8, 2008.

Some say the numbers-888 have a significance relating to the Bible (in Greek it means Jesus)

For the Chinese the number eight conveys good fortune

The Summer Olympics in Beijing are scheduled to open on 8/8/08 at 8:08:08 p.m

For the Hawaii athletes (from the 808) at the games, I hope these numbers prove auspicious

  325. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc June 2, 2008 10:21 pm

JASON: Mahalo for the recommendation. This is the first time we’ve had serious problems with the ValueWeb people. The difference in cost between what we were paying in hosting fees to a Honolulu-based company and ValueWeb was over $100 A MONTH for the five sites and the e-mail service combined. It took about four months to convince everyone to switch, but up until last week we had no problems.

Still, will check out your recommendation.

    POMAI:

Sent you an e-mail about 20 minutes ago.

LIZK: Since you’ve been on Kaua`i for so long, do you know anything about Taylor Camp? Picked up a flyer at the King Corn showing about the campus Summer Film Series. While you’ll be gone, the Hawai`i Premiere of the film, “Taylor Camp” will be shown on August 31. Funny, I don’t remember hearing much about TC – must have been a Hidden Treasure secret – but I was busy doing other things at the time.

However, the description of what the film covers makes it sound as if it is definitely going to be an exciting trip down Memory Lane for those who do remember.

  326. d1shima [sez:] June 2, 2008 10:24 pm

    Geez! Oooh da preshah!

All this build-up for the bios and, as Stephen says, I’m batting lead-off!
Well I hope I can get on board with a bloop single; Stephen wouldn’t issue me a walk this time since he says, “you stood me up last time”

  327. d1shima [sez:] June 2, 2008 10:27 pm

    Great pics Stephen!
Aren’t deltoids those breath mints in the can?

  328. d1shima [sez:] June 2, 2008 10:37 pm

I heard the beat writer for the Dolphins on Pops and Kanoa’s show this morning.
He was relieved that someone was actually wanting to ask him about someone other than Jason Taylor and the Tuna and their relationship.

He was real positive about all the Hawaii players:
    Samson Satele could end up with a long career their;
    Reagan Mauia may be able to survive the parking lot incident (the guy seemed to kinda shine it off actually);
Davone Bess may be in a good spot because of the release of Tab Perry due to injury.

  329. las vegas June 2, 2008 10:37 pm

    Yeah!! Time for d1’s bio!

Lets give him an old fashioned Tsai-Ko cheer to get his blood boiling and fingers ready to type!

    Ready gangees!,

    Two!
    Fo!
    Seex!
    ah……uh……nevah mind

    (thx Rap)

  330. d1shima [sez:] June 2, 2008 10:39 pm

KITV going have a story on Chad Owens’ Arena game exploits.

    Thanks chawan for the heads-up.

  331. d1shima [sez:] June 2, 2008 10:42 pm

    Hey las vegas.
Has the higher cost of travel been affecting the tourist counts there?

  332. las vegas June 2, 2008 10:46 pm

would be great if NFL or CFL scouts give Chad one more chance

note to Chad, get the Tacky Gloves or look for that last can of Stickum

  333. d1shima [sez:] June 2, 2008 10:51 pm

    las vegas,

after watching his highlights, I no think he need stickum 😀
    coupla one-handed grabs- awesome!

  334. las vegas June 2, 2008 10:53 pm

    d1,
Yes it has, hotel occupancy and rates are below last year.
In Cali, gas is above 4 bucks and in LV I saw 3.99 today.

Normally in the summer we see a lot of tourists but not that much spending, this year seems the trend will continue

btw, posb big strike today at the MGM’s upcoming City Center, 6 construction deaths so far, unions are getting fed up with the lax safety standards

  335. las vegas June 2, 2008 10:57 pm

    d1,
with Chad’s height, NFL teams will look at him as a returner first and receiver second.
One handed grabs are good, but he’s got to field those punts first.

  336. d1shima [sez:] June 2, 2008 10:58 pm

    las vegas,

Sad to hear about the construction deaths. Unreal the way they work those projects seemingly 24/7 there. Big money involved. Leads to bad decisions sometimes.

  337. d1shima [sez:] June 2, 2008 11:01 pm

True about the punts. Hopefully, he can get another shot and then keep his focus. Maybe he was too anxious to show ’em something the first time.

  338. d1shima [sez:] June 2, 2008 11:07 pm

I just got around to opening the Speed and Quickness Sched.
Good idea to split up the skills and Big Man on different days. I don’t know if they were anticipating the numbers last year. It was kinda overwhelming just trying to watch.

  339. d1shima [sez:] June 2, 2008 11:08 pm

    chawan,
    Are you lurking?
    Did you fart again?
    Pretty lonely around here.

Now this is really neat, I have said for a long time there will come a day when they will be able to beam us anywhere we want to go. Just as long as they don’t lose any parts of me along the way. LOL

  341. Kekoa June 2, 2008 11:30 pm

d1 ~ Did I miss reserving my seat for your BIO debut? I would come early and start the line into the HA building if I knew where to park my chair, tent, and sleeping bag.

  342. Hoohiki June 2, 2008 11:38 pm

ST (or anyone)…What is Tinoco’s ethnic background? Hard to guess from his last name? Filipino?

  343. d1shima [sez:] June 2, 2008 11:41 pm

    Kekoa,

Trust me, what I submitted is not worth missing a good night’s sleep in your bed.
Which I shall be doing as soon as my other computer is done processing my updated Project Grad video. (Yes bulla, there will be a copy for you)

  344. Hoohiki June 2, 2008 11:41 pm

Chad Owens had a spectacular game today, but….it’s Arena Football. Hard to get too excited about it. Nonetheless, I am a big fan of his and just wish he gets another chance at the NFL. I keep believing he could.

  345. Pomai June 2, 2008 11:43 pm

Bird-related damage costs the aviation industry $600 mil per year and is a huge problem for the Air Force.

    Garret,

Funny you should mention this, the State pays the USDA/APHIS about $128,000 every quarter for services at Maui County airports. No endangered species are safe from these people.

  347. Kekoa June 2, 2008 11:52 pm

G’nite Pomai! I’m staying up in case there is any bird-related damage attempted on the blog.

    Hiya!

Hugs to JaM and family, big Hugs to chawan_cut.

WassupDoc, Taylor Camp was out in Haena. I did not go there. I am too conservative. Howard Taylor (Elizabeth’s brother) owned the land and it became a haven for the young and the restless (including some of his sister’s kids). Kind of a Woodstock without the music.
JoAnn Yukimura hung out there, I think. Some of our friends hung out for awhile – like sweet soul John James – who passed away from ALS awhile back.

‘k gotta do some work and hit the hay.

Nitey nite and sweet dreams, ka kou!

Dream of Stephen’s pix and d1’s bio 😆

Not everybody is asleep – and actually posting at this time of early morning is the best way to get the new blog up & running.

A quick comment on the season finale of Lost last week. The creators have already indicated that they’re planning to end it all in two more seasons. I wonder if a faithful, devoted viewer who has just received a Final Diagnosis – maybe six or eight months left before shuffing off this mortal coil – could find out what the ending is going to be before he exits Stage Left.

I guess it’s like asking who’s going to win the NBA playoffs in 2010. It’s a little too soon to tell.

    Okay, where’s Da New Blog?

  377. Lopaka43 June 3, 2008 2:38 am

Latest news from Gator Land: Interview with Urban Meyer talking about where his team is coming out of spring practice and how they are doing during the unsupervised workout period. Meyer reports he calls four or five players each night to see how they are doing.

  378. Lopaka43 June 3, 2008 3:12 am

More news from the Swamp: Their star wide receiver Harvin is on schedule to recover from surgery by the start of fall practice. News of a freshman defensive end shot in the shoulder three weeks ago and the possible return of an offensive lineman suspended from school after reaching a plea agreement on charges of battery and of firing a rifle over the head of somebody to “scare him during an altercation”

Seems to be a thug element to the Gator football culture. Earlier stories told about the player who stole the credit card of a coed who had died in a motorcycle accident and used it for three weeks.

  379. Lopaka43 June 3, 2008 3:27 am

Florida will open a brand new $28 million football facility in July built entirely with private donations. Boosters contributed $33 million to the University Athletic Association last year.

“The No. 1 reason is recruiting,” Meyer said about the facility. “I felt like we were in the bottom half of the SEC with facilities, and like it or not, that’s a big part of recruiting. That’s one of the first questions asked.”

BCS schools are on another planet. But we are living in Hawaii!!

  380. Lopaka43 June 3, 2008 3:32 am

ESPN interview with Meyer about Florida’s approach to offense this year.

Good news about Chad Owens. Now all he has to do is produce like that in the NFL.

Amazing fundraising went on for the new football facility in Gainesville.

The $28-million James W. “Bill” Heavener Football Complex has been completely funded by private donors. Heavener, a graduate of UF and co-chairman of Full Sail University, an entertainment media college in Winter Park, donated $7-million. Sixteen donors contributed at least $1-million each

    Howzit Loa,

I saw that comment from Garret about 3G. Hope it makes a diff.

    Howzit Liz,

I heard a beat writer from Florida say that probably the fans not going be as hostile to Hawaii peeps as they would to other SEC teams’ fans. But still, I think if I was going, “Down Low” would be the plan.
