2010 vision
The word on the boulevard is the Warriors made solid offers to these Mainland prospects:
• Wilson Edwards, defensive lineman, Long Beach (Calif.) Poly.
• Alami Fua, tight end/defensive end, Oaks Christian School (Westlake Village, Calif.).
• Joshua Quezad, running back, La Habra (Calif.) High.
• Roman Sapolu, center, Edison High (Huntington Beach, Calif.)
• John Timu, quarterback/safety, Long Beach (Calif.) Jordan.
• Soma Vainuku, linebacker, Eureka (Calif.) High.

Belated birthday wishes to Wafan and Caroline Kim.

Ryan “The Beast” Eastman gets his Weber State letterman’s jacket. I run this picture because 1) Ryan is a great guy. 2) He’s the son of Bulla. 3) To show that I might not be the most “unfocused” photographer in the world.
To prove it’s not the camera, look at the clear shot Lyn took (excuse the subject on the left):

Our very own football diehard, Peter Boylan, is leaving the paper to serve as Sen. Daniel Inouye’s press secretary. There always was a certain Rob Lowe quality to Peter. We wish him the best.
Very Nice List, where’s everyone, WhoooHoooo, # 1
shoup the whoop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
whoop the shoup?
Hey Stephen any word on who is applying to be the new mens volleyball coach?
Fo threeeeeeee……
Top 10…woohoo
……no good, a brick off the back of the rim.
I will apply that Reed Sunahara should get the mens vb post.
I heard Charlie Wade is applying.
top 10!
cheepono out
top 15~
happy friday~!
Roman Sapulo is signing with Oregon State according to his HS Coach and reported in OC Register
Here I am!!!
and there I go…
Nice contrast in photos of The Beast!
Dennis Halloran,
Roman’s commit to Oregon State has been reported in a number of places. However, Roman’s latest published statement was that he would be taking his recruiting visits, so even though he says he’s a strong commit it doesn’t seem like his mind is made up yet.
Whether or not UH pays for a recruiting visit for someone who says he is a strong commit to another school is something to worry about later. Things can change over the next 6 months or so and it is good that UH made the offer. This wasn’t a case of Pac-10 teams getting interested in a player after UH showed interest–Roman had offers from a number of other schools before Uh offered.
Let’s face it… If you’re not shooting at shutter speeds in excess of 1/500 of a second, Ryan Eastman is so fast, he’ll just be a blurrrrrr .
Nice to see the kind of highschool players that our new coaches are vying for. Just because we aren’t a BCS school doesn’t mean UH can’t have the same kind of attitude when it comes to recruiting and playing football.
Reality might give way to a little tweaking, but attitude and optimism? The sky should be the starting limit.
Charlie Wade would be a nice pick. Women’s volleyball dropped a level or two after he left and never really made it all the way back to where it was when he was around.
The center on RGM’s CFL team got a nice extension and RGM is one of the last starters left who hasn’t gotten a contract extension. I wonder if RGM is holding off on signing an extension because he’s going to try for the NFL–if he’s healthy he should have a shot at doing well in an NFL training camp.
The only 2 starters without an extension are RGM and Green, and the team specifically states that they will not give an extension to Green…and didn’t say the same thing about RGM.
I posted yesterday about how one school raises extra money by auctioning the right to be an honorary coach during their spring game. If UH’s doesn’t want to have fans be considered coaches for the Warrior Bowl, they might do what Ohio State does and auction off a sideline spot during the Warrior Bowl.
Da Beast! 🙂
I would love to have Charlie Wade as our new coach. He knows volleyball, he knows Hawaii …
Nice list of recruits…
I’m sure the pikcha was done li’dat to emfa-size da misty nature of the fatagrafa’s eyes at the time (snf snf)….
heheheh
Aloha Kakahiaka!!!
Ho’omaikai Ryan “Da Beast” Eastman! Looking good!
Belated happy birthday to Caroline Kim. Keep celebrating!
To add to da already busy TSaturday Tschedule:
Some of us (SteveM, Peaches, LizK, Me and Mrs d1島) will be at Genji aftah MVB if anyone wants to join us, please come by…..
….maybe we will try out the now popular song from Les Miz (by Liz…of course)
If anyone can listen to 1420, Colin Cowherd is interviewing Al Michaels. They will mention Kalas, Keiter and the Hawaii Islanders.
I believe Alani Fua is the younger brother of Sione Fua (Stanford). I’ll be at a camp next week and will have an opportunity to see Timu and some of these other Polys in person.
Dennis:
I thought so, too. Was absolutely positive.
But Jesse Sapolu thinks it’s a soft commit. As he told his son: Don’t look at the facilities, look at the program.
HIYA!
ST- “Sen. Daniel Inouye’s press security” . Really? Not press secretary???
d1- not ready to take on Susan Boyle yet but what da heck! jm2375 is my pahtnah in “activities” Sat. nite so watch out!!!
Cool video interview with Coach Wilton on facebook. Good job, UH web communications department (or whatevah)
http://www.hawaiiathletics.com/index.aspx
d1:
I’ll try to stop by, but I might be kinda ripe.
Got the reunion tonight, the coaches clinic tomorrow, practice in the afternoon and volleyball at night.
John Timu has offers from UH, Oregon, and U-Dub.
the space craft has landed. good morning tsaikos.
Quezada’s tape is great. He looks like a bruising back with some speed and balance.
Soma Vainuku also is highly regarded and has a number of offers. This article is almost a month old, so UH’s offer must have been fairly recent.
For those who do not subscribe to the recruiting services, here are some highlights for Soma Vainuku.
Bulla- hoo wee! da BEAST is no longer the boy beast. Congrats on your accomplishments, Ryan!!!
I am liking the 2010 vision so far.
And kinda excited about Coach Wilton’s references about good things to come for MVB!
I was in La Habra exactly a week ago and drove by Joshua Quezad’s high school then. He is an excellent prospect, but again the competition will be fierce. I like that the UH coaches aren’t afraid of recruiting competition, since if you don’t offer you never know if you had a chance.
With the organizational skills of Tony Tuioti, I figure that the UH coaches will know when to move on to other recruits if their top targets choose others.
Eastman males are looking good.
Nice set of potential Warriors up there.
Happy belated birthday wafan and Caroline.
Good to see the list has all HS recruits. Also, hopefully this recruiting class will be more balanced in terms in terms of finding recruits for all positions on both sides of the ball.
Wilton is referring to the German opposite hitter who is coming in August. I spoke with a couple of opposing coaches, and they said he’ll be the best hitter in the nation next year. When his papers are finalized, I’ll post a link to his video.
They’ve actually offered more than 15 scholarships. But those are the Mainland ones.
Here’s is my totally unofficial take on the NFL draft:
1) 49ers will draft Mark Sanchez with the #10 pick and immediately trade him to Washington for Colt Brennan and 2 high draft choices this year or next.
2) included in this trade is Davone Bess going to Sf for 4th or 5th round selection for Maimi from SF.
3) SF will offer Grice-Mullin a free agent contract with $100,000 guaranteed. Cost 49ers nothing because he is not with any NFL team.
4) Consideration for free agent contracts to Rivers and CJ Hawthorne.
Let Davone and Grice-mullin challenge current receivers for starting spot or # 2 backup.
Us 49er fans keep dreaming, but what the hay, dreams can come true!!!!
Is it “Quezad” or “Quezada”?
Home is where you hang your helmet:
Judging from ST’s coconut wireless report on warrior recruits on the continent– all is well with MAC & staff.
C’mon, it’s obvious the warriors have links to Long Beach Poly and a other HS venues known to propagate a few polynesian ballers.
I raise this cuz everytime a prime beef local-athlete commits to a mainland program it prompts great anxiety among our indigenous fans that spurns fear, rejection and frustration.
Jibberwash!
The latest angst was sparked by a verbal commitment made by Wailua’s Graham Rowley to BYU.
Great news for the Rowley ohana!
His parents should be proud–and young Graham will find their footprints over beaten-paths that meander over the Provo campus.
Just as one or two sons of former rainbow great, Jesse Sapolu, may find their father’s cleats embeded on Cooke’s grassy field.
Look, home is where you hang your helmet, and no one knows this more than MAC n staff, especially the LEE brothers, whom are keenly aware of our local kids with sand in their shoes and a genuine quest for adventure.
eh, we are talking about teenagers arent we?
From waht I hear, after a brief intro to snow and mainland life–these kids are spending more time texting home than they spend talking to friends on their campus.
But, dats annada storyline.
Moreover, unlike, previous UH coaches, who groused, stewed and pouted to the point of declarative frustration–MAC has turned this negative into a positive.
Coach MAC n Co. are creating a reverse migration for polynesian athletes that is salmon-like, and offering prospective contenental-recruits an opportunity to return to their roots and original spawning grounds.
As Jesse said, some things have changed in Manoa, but essentially, warriorland remains distinctively, the same.
And he says this with an unabashed feeling of pride.
Hello!
This is not a naive Kalihi-kid talking, but an NFL veteran that played in more Super Bowls than Wayne-Wayne has attended. Well, maybe not.
But, you get my drift.
Rowley, best wishes dude, but who cares?
Hawaii has a wealth of talented homies on the continent and for them too, home is where they hang their helmet.
Bulla:
bro, you was so emotional that camera when shake?
nice picture by Mrs Bulla – way to go Lynn – your men look GOOD!
Yee Ha! All we need is a coach and MVB is rolling again! MY favorite years are the UN of VB years. Only appropriate that Hawaii should have the best of all nations converging in the heart of the Pacific!
Better check if that German dude played with the pros…Nah, I’m sure someone checked.
ST:
Any reason why you chose not to post the name of “local” recruits who were offered UH scholarships?
By my count, 9 local HS players have also received solid offers. Will Jesse Williams count for 2010? Kahai LaCount? or, are they included in the 9?
The one thing players (and their families) miss is the coverage when they go away. In Hawai‘i, there are two major daily newspapers that write football stories year round. There are TV stations. Talk shows. Every game is available on statewide TV. There are blogs, and fan Web sites, and videos, etc. And practices are open to fans, friends and family.
I’m always getting messages from parents wanting to know why I don’t write about their kids on the Mainland. I tell them I cover UH. Hey, I didn’t even write about my daughter’s athletic career.
Well, the Beast is the exception.
And this forum is open for parents to talk about their kids.
But, well, you get the point …
A-House:
Because I couldn’t write fast enough.
Good neighbor:
now, that is a very honest response!!!! keep up the good work!!
every time I pass your house and you are in or about your car, you always talking on the cell phone – Mrs A-House says don’t beep the horn cause I might throw you off!
ST, dats the one character trait i luv about u–your loyalty 2 rome. keep it kickin!
Good morning Tsaikos…
Great to see the above list contains all HS players. Nothing against JC transfers, especially when there are areas where you need someone to make an immediate impact, but HS players allow for long term needs….and therefore continuity in a program that allows it to be a perrenial power….
is b stutz hurt. i caught the tail end of an interview on 1420
The list is going to consist solely of high school players because those are the players that are recruited at this time of year. High school players go to camps, take unofficial visits to colleges, go to Junior Days, get offers, and many commit early. If you look at other football programs, they are all offering high school players also.
It is too early to recruit JC players for a variety of reasons. In the Fall teams may find that some players aren’t developing as expected or players can get hurt and a team might decide it needs immediate help in a certain area and they will recruit JC players to fill that need. Plus, schools want to recruit JC players that can enroll in January and that status won’t be known until the Fall.
So, giving offers now to high school recruits is not early…in most of the cases for the players above some Pac-10 schools offered the recruits before UH. Giving offers to JC players now would be extremely early except in rare cases.
I like that this blog is specific to UH sports with some of the prep and elementary achievements. Intra-State sports. There would be too little focus, otherwise, and blogging would go off in more tangents than it already does.
And talking about tangents… when did those slimmer, red-whisker Bulbuls start eating noni fruit?
Ah.. but I, too, digress.
Hawaii will continue to recruit JUCOs until we can stock our cupboards with quality high school players in every unit.
JUCO recruitin isnt by whim, it is done through careful, calculated evaluation of returning player personnel, esp in the skill positions. Such as CBs, safeties or RBs.
It is also contemplated to fill gaps made through graduation or academic attrition and the like.
eh, JUCO players are the sensible solution to fill units decimated by attrition and because of their maturity and post hs experience, they reasonably offer a higher probability of payoff in a shorter period of time.
Mac has publically made his recruiting philosophy known,
“While he is building for tomorrow, the future is NOW!”
JUCO recruiting makes this possible.
I agree.
It will take the entire term of MAC’s 5-year contract to build a strong base of high school recruits….be patient.
Article about a UH baseball commit.
mih- no bulbuls on Kauai – so far!
A-House,
So is SF gonna hire JJ as the OC based on your #41 comments? Is SF trading for Samson also?
Any of you office dwellers (like me) take a peek outside? Really nice out and Friday to boot… Arghhh, need to move my desk to da park…
MLiz – I guess those bulbuls are either too lazy to fly to Kauai or get plenty food for them on Oahu.
ST,
When it comes to coverage, as you mentioned, how much of that plays into the coaches’ recruiting pitch to local kids and their parents if at all?
YpoWarrior:
You ahead of me on post # 59. I neva tink dat far ahead, but neva 2 late and dat’s 1 hellva idea – get Satele and JJ into the fold.
JJ tried his “run ‘n shoot” at Atlanta and it neva work out, but that was many years ago and having 4 wide out with QB in the shot-gun more and more seems like the NFL goin to what JJ was preaching long ago.
But, I no tink 49er owner(s) willin 2 go dat route.
Bulla was shaking in his bvdees, too cold for the bulla….
condolences to Aunty Lyn’s ohana….is she older than me?
Adam Lastimado is a solid catch out of the Seattle area and a good contact-hitter (.471) that Coach Mike is looking to audition at 2B for the out-going Ryan Morford.
Adam is league MVP-type who also plays good D around the diamond.
Trapasso builds on solid D to go with good control-pitching.
Good get!
Ralph – Lyn is way younger than you!
Good noonish everyone!
Congrats to the Beast!
I would not assume Aunty Lyn is going to Maui on bad news. I hope not, and think she has other good works to do there occasionally…
ooops — re-read Bulla’s post on yesterday’ blog. Funerals. My condolences…
Can someone ask homey what bul-bul in his native tongue means?
Ppppppppp-weeeeeezeeeee!!!!!
homey – what does bul-bul in your native mean??
haha…K, sorry, that didn’t sound right (smarty pants, stretch!) Try wait, try wait..
I meant: What bul bul means IN his native tongue!
I goin’ slap you when I see you Stretch! And don’t beg for more! Just one!
Interesting to see the wide range of opinions from scouts on Mouton. All it takes is for one team to want to draft him high…I hadn’t heard a 2nd-round evaluation before for Mouton, and 4th round would be much higher than he was rated before UH’s Pro Day.
no worry, your hand going hurt so much after one time, you not going to be able to slap anyone again.
Want to hear a song recorded by Susan Boyle 10 years ago? Click on my name for the link to the video.
😯
Classic!!! That’s the best laugh I’ve had all week… thanks! 😆
I don’t know what Big C is talking about. However, I do know in hebrew bulbul means mangina.
Piers Morgan talked about the day she showed up for her audition.
any chance we are close to offering kaelin clay, slot out of LB Poly?
carmichael went bomb again yesterday, i dont know what his count is at. i think almadova is up to 7-8 bombs for the season. dont know how piikea is hitting this year, but his D is always solid.
homey…mangina??? as in manho……LOL
Aggies (6-4) get back at NEV (6-3), 9-6.
WAC Standings 3rd week-in-play:
1. NEV 6-3
2. NMSU 6-4
3. SJSU 5-3
4. HAW 4-3
5. FSU 2-2
6. SAC 1-3
7. LaT 1-7
tonight: Haw v Sac St, FSU @ LaT, SJSU is WAC idle
(J)J – It is also in line with moobs, manstrual cramps, mirdle, manty…
Man O’Steel?
CRW – He is more like Mr. Incredible. Ever see him in his long sleeve Under Armour shirt?
Big C…can I have a couple of slaps??? Just wanna know what it feels like with such a big hand………MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA
no forget bend over first….
I think you have me confused with DPK
Garret: I have Mouton in the 4th-5th range, weighted toward the 4th. If not for the hamstring, I’d have him solidly in the 3rd-4th range, with a chance at 2nd. A team could still reach for him, and I wouldn’t have too much of an issue with it. We all know that he’s a guy with tremendous upside. Glad to see he’s rising on so many boards. It’s just like I said before, scouts needed to see his measurables because he’s lacking in film. If he did good, I thought he could get drafted in the 6th or 7th. He did great, which propels him into early day 2. Just the injury knocks him back a little bit in my grade, although he hasn’t really had a chance to rest, so it’s not his fault.
Big C…can I have a couple of slaps??? Just wanna know what it feels like with such a big hand………MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA
That sounds like something koa-mahu would ask for.
homey: Get back to work! And by work, I mean your walks up and down Hotel Street … 😀
Okay, gotta run.
hhahaha…Glad to see everyone laughing on uh…JJ or homey’s account, again..
Now that I’ve started enough trouble, I’m off the the hospital to see uncle.
Mahalo again!!
That sounds like something koa-mahu would be glad to administer for you.
Stretch – I stand corrected. I do recall seeing a picture of Mr. DPnKredible.
CRW – he/she might be slapping his/herself
Jason – Good seeing you hiding under an eave near Hotel St. Who were you waiting for?
Can someone tell me how to watch past episodes of the WB Shows? I’ve gone to the Warrior Beat page and pressed on the link that goes to the live feed but I can’t seem to press a link to check out other shows.
Ho! Hows dat! Da BEAST looking “beastly” in the last pic!
Congrats braddah! We all know how proud Papa Beast is of you and your accomplishments!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO WAFAN AND CAROLINE KIM!!!
G – On the Warrior Beat video screen press the on-demand button next to the on air button.
G (China) – the links to the past programs are not working.
STEPHEN- will the video links to the archived shows be fixed???
Is Caroline related to myki?
SailorBlue ~ You need to move your office to UH Campus over- looking Cooke/Ching field. Much better view of things.
Post your name plate on the door as the Navy Liason Officer for the UH vs Navy game in November.
If anyone objects, put a Nuke sub in the UH pool.
Thanks Homey and LizK
To all the Tsaikos,
Mahalo for the aloha for The Beast;he misses home, and he always asks how everyone is doing.
Mahalo ST for the gracious post, not everyone can play for UH, but as long as they represent Hawaii in a spirit of excellence, well, i think we can all appreciate that. The 2009 highlight film had some classic hits, and ended with a solo sack by the beast against Glanville’s PSU team, putting an exclamation point on a memorable, history making season for WSU.
The real joy is when you walk into an athletic department and you see every computer terminal being used by a student athlete, or when you see the team attending study hall together, or when you see coaches and families sitting together sharing a quiet laugh and making memories.
Ryan always asks ‘hey dad, do they know how I’m doing back home, do they know how much i miss home?’ I tell him don’t worry, make his mark and live his dream.
We brought fresh poke 10 lbs of it,and about 25 leis for everyone and wore a VERY BRIGHT Manuheali’i matching outfits…just bringing some Aloha to chilly Ogden.
Mahalo again, I will always be a Warrior fan, a True Tsaiko, but I will bleed purple for Weber Wildcats. Now let’s watch our Warriors get at least 8 wins this season.
GO WILDCATS
GO WARRIORS
ps my photo was taken in a dimly lit banquet room, and i might have been shaking small kind, but with lyn’s photo, we had to pose, hold our breath, fix our hair….well ryan did that…haha
mahalo again
rob lowe quality? hmmm..that could mean a lot of things, any hints?
layson – Could mean Boylan sucks at acting.
cry me a river, fantastic voice. good link garret
lol…i thought you were going to say he made his own video
or something,
my ears wuz da kine itchy. jus so u all know:
1) stop teasing jamesee. he one hard state worka.
2) i no slap him. he like me spank him instead and;
3) i all woman but…i still get ‘da ting’.
Hi Bulla!
Good job supporting da Beast!
(((hugs))) to Mrs. Bulla who is supporting the family during times of transition and reunion.
uh-oh- doppler is showing precipitation in Lihue… our track meet starts in a couple of hours.
Willie Grace!
layson – 😆 You just said it!
Koa-mahu – You going complete the transformation or stay one shemale?
MLiz – You run track or participate in the field events?
LIz – I don’t need the doppler to tell you that it IS raining in Lihue. Don’t look good
And it is soooo sunny on Hotel St.
Isn’t it always sunny on Hotel St?
Oh, wait. Nevermind.
honeyhomey – wot do u tink i should do?!?!Hmmm.
good thing I brot my raincoat.
might mess up my pole vault though…
nahnahnah…I am the desk/compile stats/awards person.
Or I might be the announcer today.
Thanks for the weather observation, Stretch! Will we see you tomorrow night???
Willie Grace fo real now
Koa-mahu – snip-snip.
homey,
liz is more a distance runner, not a sprinter, she’s in it for the loooooong haul 🙂

Happy Friday erryone!
*burp, yawn* Had pho for lunch, then went to Menchies for dessert. Time for a nap.
jm#### – What does the “jm” stand for in your name?
jomo 😯
brew/homey – it stands for Just Me. nah j/k. My initials.
j o m ama
bwhahahahahaha
Just –> Mean ?!! 😯 🙄 😆
Junk Mail
Jedi Master
Jason,
I agree that Mouton’s draft stock went significantly up because of his performances at the Combine and Pro Day. If he hadn’t gotten hurt and could have gone all-out during his 40, he could have gotten that 2nd-round spot that he deserves. As it stands, 4th round would be good and anything higher would be great.
Jason,
You might not believe this, but Faith’s school district has Math League starting with second graders! The math teacher asked Faith today to join the team once she is old enough.
Here is one of the problems Faith’s math teacher gave to her (she solved the problem quickly right in front of the teacher)…I used to love these problems but I know I didn’t do them in Kindergarten.
Al, Jeff, and Linda are walking their pets in the park. The pets are
a dog, a cat, and a rabbit. The names of the pets are Rocky, Fluffy,
and Chunk. Read the following clues to determine the name and kind of
pet each owner has.
1. Al does not own the rabbit.
2. Linda owns either Fluffy or Chunk.
3. Jeff owns the cat.
4. The cat’s name is Chunk.
Post #132 was for Jason…I’m guessing those are the type of questions they have in Math League for Elementary School kids.
Juicy Mama
…but why isn’t the cat named Chunky? 😐 😯 😕
Da Instagata ….. okay…. you win. You get to take home the “prize” (jmXXXX)!!! 😆 🙄 😀
hey now, Mimi is chunky, but that’s what happens when you’re a house cat
Chunky kind of describes how I am after Vegas and a Calf Call…
Huh? Where did Mimi come from? Did I miss part of the math problem? 😕 😯 🙄
btw, how do you walk a rabbit?!?!
unless his name is Buggs Bunny
or Jessica Rabbit.
🙁
San Jose State Holds Off Hawai’i Softball, 5-4
from hawaiiathletics.com:
Mimi must be one of those ‘stray cats’
The Tsaikos were invited to the new restaurant for an “all you can eat” buffet. They all decided – “Heck, it’s free! Let’s make it a contest! Let’s see who can eat the most and put on the most weight at the end of the feast. 🙄
They all gathered at the huge main dining table and proceeded to eat every course that the full kitchen staff could whip up. By the end of the evening, which Tsaiko “won”?
Answer: Nobody! One Tsaiko did get up to weigh himself but broke the scale! The others are still at the table waiting for more FUUD!!! 😆 😯 😆
So top candidates for mens volleyball head coach are, Charlie Wade, Scott Wong, Mike Sealy and Allen Allen? I wonder who else . Should be exciting.
My choice is Scott Wong.
Heading out to the Les for BaseBow in a little while….hope to see you dere!
ST,
Great to hear that Warriors have offered another LB Poly player….Wilson Edwards (who played exclusively at OG last season).
BUT…no Warrior scholie offer yet to LB Poly offensive guard Ryan Edwards?
http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=84170&season=2010&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fncf%2frecruiting%2ftracker%2fplayer%3frecruitId%3d84170%26season%3d201
Stephen,
Make sure you are in the right place for the reunion this time! 😯
vballfan1,
Wow, there are a lot of good candidates on that list. Volleyball coach at UH is a unique position with higher visibility than pretty much any other men’s volleyball program…possibly the only other NCAA volleyball coach with greater media attention would be Coach Shoji.
kapakahi, are they related? i think i read somewhere that wilson is the cousin of eli, who played opposite of tepa last year. #96.
letsgowarriors,
not sure if Ryan is related to Wilson. Would seem probable. However, I’ll have to ask my former roommate who still teaches in the Long Beach school district when I get a chance. to see if he knows.
roman sapolu….committed before uh offered. insiders say that he had been waiting for the warriors to offer all along. he will visit on our expenses and if dad has a say, he will be a warrior.
Good photo, Lyn! The Beast looks great standing next to that life-like statue of the Wildcat and Satch.
Prayers and condolences to those who have lost a loved one, or who has a loved one in distress.
good news al, thanks.
Susan Boyle really hit it big on Britain Got Talent.
But another middle aged fellow did well and the judges were overwhelmed – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1k08yxu57NA.
glad to hear that the ‘little birdy’ is alive and kicking.
thanks uncle al!
I guess GARRET started it all with Susan Boyle – now discovered that Paul Potts won that Britain Got talent two years ago. Worth while looking at if none of the coaches are announcing what footbal, Basketball, baseball etc recruits are coming to town.
injury report for bowz:
sam spangler has been throwing in the bullpen and sam says he is ok n ready to go–good news from our bullpen.
gref garcia’s thumb is not 100% but coach mike said greg is close to full recovery and ready to go.
another note–jared alexander will be taken out of the #2 in the rotation but may be worked into the weekend mix, according to trapasso.
al
regarding sapolu,i heard that he is dead set to play for Cavanaugh, hands down. that, from a very recent OSU coach
well, methinks that nash is awaiting a decision by one big and that will determine how and where the second scholie rolls out. we are in dire need of a big and another swingman who can shoot to compliment flemings (i don’t think he goes pro). flemings achilles heel is a lack of an outside shot and average ball handling.
hahaha….actually it was a rather big bird that told me these things.
i figured charlie wade would become dave shoji’s heir apparent. charlie has primarily been involved in the women’s game and, what with, dave retiring in the near future……..
okay bulla..sounds like a lunch bet. er, if you can make it out to camellia’s.
jayson kramer, sr., on the mound for the bowz, 2-3, 3.46 era (7th best in the WAC).
martinez, lead off single to lf.
DP, 5-4-3. 2 outs.
Wheeler, 4-3.
1 h, 0 r, 0 lob.
Chris Baek, 3-3, 7.26 era on the mound for the hornets.
Sean Montplaisir moved to #2 in batting order.
vinnie singles w 2 outs.
Kevin McDonald homers (#5) to center. rbis 32, 33.
Hawaii 2-0.
IDK, I’m not a big Paul Potts fan. I’d rather listen to LizKauai. 🙂
Kramer KOs 2 in top 2nd.
3 up n down….J lookin good.
HAW 2-0, after 1 1/2.
LizK…
Wha ? No bulbul in Kauai? Unimaginable.
Back in 1986 there were none that I can remember. That was the year I left for Japan. In 1994, when I came back, they were all over the place. Both common BulBuls and Red-Whiskered ones. Today, I think there are more common bulbuls here than there are mynahs. Most animals propagate gradually, mice and rabbits multiply… bulbuls use quadratics.
At least now now I know what I need to pack the next time we go island hopping to Kauai. We Oahuans love to share.
bottom 3, UH 2-1.
kramer pitching good. hornets w 3 hits.

Go Warriors!
did you know that some of us are recording the game for viewing at a later time?
kekoa…..sorry but baseballers are the rainbows. not warriors.
Piper’s Son,
Actually, warriorfanny2 was the first person to post about Susan Boyle–he put her YouTube link up on two consecutive blogs. I had seen other mentions of her but never clicked on the links…wf2’s persistence convinced me to check out the video.
al: Most people who don’t want to know the score avoid blogs and message boards. Heck, some just swear off the Internet in these trying times. 😀
BTW, where is there a KTA on Maui?
Piper’s Son,
I think you asked me to look up something and summarize it, but I was on my family trip and didn’t have time. If you really want me to take a look at something and give my (completely unqualified) summary, please just post a link to it.
I bet that Warrior fans would love it if UH had a garage sale before the Warrior Bowl…this is a great fundraiser for Texas Tech, UNLV, and others and a great thing for the fans.
annada Greg putting on a show at homeplate….bat slips out of his hands and missiles into the dugout, than he hits a bomb and its a foul before beating out a slow runner to 3B.
keeping the fans enterained at the LES.
Good crowd tonite. Noisy and kickin it!
HAW, 5-1 after 4.
The South Florida Sun-Sentinel has a nice series of stories from inside the drafts from the past. Here is a nice story about the 49ers taking Joe Montana.

It must have been strange for the student to have a driving instructor that was drunk giving him/her instructions!

United Airlines has a new policy that could directly affect some Tsaikos…like me if I keep going to the buffets! Overweight passengers may have to pay for two seats or to upgrade their seat on United Airlines if there aren’t two empty seats available on the plane.
Sorry Al…I hate that rainbow label! They are all UH Warriors to me, no matter what sport.
Kramer mixing his pitches and hitting the dark spots–hornet bats are over and under his location. 3-hit gem thus far.
HAW 5-1, bottom 5.
eh, Garret, does that mean that Chris Hart and Gary Dickman must purchase 4 tickets when they travel in tandem across da pond?
Ryan is really a great guy.
watching the MVB team is VERY unappealing. I would rather watch another show than the only UH sport on KFVE. I was hoping the baseball game would be on but, oh well….
GARRET: re: your #180.
It was one of those scholarly papers – 10-15 pages long absolutely gobblygook as far as I was concern. Just wondered if any one could reduce it to its essence in 25 words or less.
Might I refer you to my son-in-law Martin whose claim to fame is:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2009/mar/03/limericks-research
warriorfanny2,
They can fly Hawaiian Airlines to not worry about it. Or, as long as they aren’t flying on peak times then United should have empty seats available.
Buddy really you are doing marvelous.
just when the rainbow warriors vb is looking good, usc sets them down. not a good way to honor coach wilton.
I glad to know that you are doing better.
Piper’s son,
I read a lot of boring papers and summarize them for work–often going through 10 of them (each 10-15 pages long) to get a half-page of useful information when they are summarized together. So, when I have time I can look at what you are curious about…but I’m guessing it will be out of my wireless communications specialty area.
My job today was to pore through boring technical specifications (and some marketing fluff where you have to figure out what is real and what is fluff) of products from 5 companies. I basically turned several hundred pages of stuff into a 1-paragraph summary today. Then, next week I have to decide what parts to buy from which company that will fit what my customer wants. Then I try to put everything together and show working hardware in May.
Pretty cool to read about Martin’s work! At least people can understand and appreciate his work! My stuff is either too technical, too boring, or too sensitive/classified to talk about…I can’t even tell my wife.
After 8, it remains BOWZboyz 5-1.
kramer 4-hit smoothie.
Top of the 8th, bases loaded w hornets, no outs, kramer in a jam.
Trap on the mound to give his bullpen time.
GARRET: re: 202 – Martin is a research type person at Concordia (the old Bell Lab) and I don’t know what he does. At one time he was doing fiber optic telecommunications for them but what he is doing today, I haven’t a clue and never could understand it either!
wheeler, SAC’s 50 rbi man hits into force at home, 3-2.
kramer KOs Crosby! hornets clean-up hitter.
Roth singles to right, one run scores. Haw 5-2.
bases loaded, 2 down.
Crowd into it.
josh powers grounds out to garcia, 6-3.
wheww….haw 5-2 bottom 8.
It got interesting at the end but the UH wins 5-4
oops, premature celebration
okay, now it is a final!! UH 5-4 over Sac St
Whitey…
RE the bulbuls… I hope it stays that way. Both Bulbuls and the Java Sparows, the other islands could certainly do without.
Haw wins opener over SAC, 5-4.
Drama in the 9th as Sam Spangler gets the save for kramer and after giving up a 2 run HR, he gets the next 2 batters.
First HR yielded by Spangler this year.
great crowd tonite….wuu-weeee.

al – whatever is “on sale” is good enough for me….
hey! you mention a right strategical plan here.
Garret- I put a Susan Boyles link on my Facebook on 4/14 … does that count???
Phew! What a great track meet! Waimea High swept the team competition. Congrats to all the athletes from all the schools!
It was West Kauai Rotary’s 62nd annual track meet. The weather held – drove through hard rain to a dry track!
Uploading pix now and getting ready for my early flight to Oahu.
How early?
It is a beeeeeauuuuutiful morning! Hoping everyone has a great day!!!
This Niners Nation article suggests trading Alex Smith for Colt. I doubt this would ever happen, but I’m sure it would make A-House and other 49ers fans very happy.
Good morning Tsaikos everywhere.
Boyle, Potts, some inspiration for all our middle aged coaches. 😀
you can do it, coaches!!
Go Warriors!!!
That was an interesting and amusing treatise regarding limericks and their synopses of scholarly theses.
Some possess too much time and are amazingly intelligent. Wish I were one.
Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
Colt is a systems QB in a buckaloose offense. the 49ers are not a buckaloose offense. wish they were though.
just wishing Colt the best for 09.
good morning tsaikos. congrats to the bb bows on their win. hopefully the vb bows will be able to send coach wilton retirement on a high note.
Good Morning Everybody! Hope everyone has a great Saturday and weekend. Hope everyone has a good time on campus today
good morning wafan, djmitcho, bhf2
Central Arkansas will open UH’s season with a new QB…but they aren’t sure which of their 3 QBs will be the starter.
Aloha Kakahiaka!
I fly Go!
C u soon!
A discussion on ESPN about rumors of Washington Redskins desire to draft a rookie qb to replace their current qb and thereby leapfroging even Colt Brennan is upsetting.
To suggest that this rookie at this point in time is better than a starting veteran qb and his backups, is unbelievable!!?? It’s a slap in the face.
I guess it is what it is….all these qb’s including CB, weren’t as good as I/we thought.
good am 8) to the early risers and the ones getting ready for a UH clinic. going be fun day. come on down join the excitement. much of everything for everybody.
congrats to the diamond ballers 😀 last night. ended up closer that should have been. but hell a win is a win is a win. go get um again tonight. hope some of that winning 😮 rubs off on the vball guys.
kden must get myself going also so what ever you do have a good one. you live in one of the beautiful place on earth so make this day count.
Good Morning Gang,
off to get ready for Spring ball in Ogden..awesome day at 55 degrees, going up to 61 later, awesome football weather.
when the Beast comes home we’ll do a cc, and he’s been invited to Derby’s camp on may 3rd, that should be fun, haha.
mahalo for all the kind words, it takes a village to raise a child, and we are one awesome village…..ryan, lyn and i am so grateful to all of you for the love, support and prayers you have shared with us.
IMUA LANAKILA

let us all be thankful for the blessings that surround us, we are all so very, very lucky. on this day, on this day, do something for the first time….do something for the first time, and live. live it to the fullest…..let us live with no regrets, and not allow our past to dictate our future

Good Morning TsaiKo Ohana…Bulla,Mctruck,Koakane,LizK..
Back to Future(of Lurking)…
mctruck ~ Time for the “Play me or Trade Me” speech. We who believe in CB, know his potential when given the football. Those, whom I shall call the ‘unwashed’ – will never know until he becomes their *rival* QB and burns them for TD’s!
Happy birthday to Wafan.
Happy birthday to Caroline Kim….sweet 16??????
~~~•~~~~•~~Good..Morning..Tsaikos..and..Warrior..Nation!!!~~•~~~~•~~~
Hi Wena!!! How is the Little Learner’s Preschool? Hasn’t it been about a year? 😀 😯 😆
mctruck. Grr. I share your sentiments about the Skins. But I feel in my heart that something good for Colt will come out in the end.
Great Morning All!
Beee-yoooo-tiful morning in Hawaii Nei 🙂
Hope all in attendence at the Coaches’ Clinic have a great time.
Looking forward to practice/scrimmage this afternoon. Better get there early, sounds like going be crowded!
Good Luck to all the UH teams in action today.
Stretch,
Figured you need to be “bright-eyed and bushy-tailed this morning…plus, they weren’t handing ’em out fo’ free like the Heineken girls 🙁
al,
But it would be fun for the rest of us to watch! 😉
Starbucks is playing “Return to Me”. Wow am I getting a huge “Pushing Tin” image of Kate Blanchette.
hey, how come no one told me about the miller girls last night???
Gmornin gangy.
Kekoa- We need to find a way to cross our paths.
There’s the slow lane.
There’s the fast lane.
There’s the passing lane.
And I suppose, there’s the lame lane…. 😯 😆 🙄
mctruck/Liz,
RE: Redskins looking for a QB
To quote Michael Wilbon on PTI: “Dan Snyder is never happy with anyone who’s on his team.” As a Redskin fan, I have to say they’ll never win a Super Bowl as long as Snyder owns the team.
and dot our aisles?
heheheh
chawan_cut,
You were notified at 10:19 last night…
Huh? 🙄 😕
Howzit brew…
Life in the fast laneLife for the terminally lame…. 8)Howzit d1島! What’s on your calendar for today? 8)
A-Joe ~ Two things dis morning…
1. I know you have the ‘package.’
2. I’ll be at the scrimmage at around 3ish.
We can exchange info about the passing of the ‘package’ at the field. Come alone, no HPD or SWAT teams. I’ll be watching from da tower. Anything out of order and you will never be able to play the Bass guitar again!
Nah, Nah, Nah…j/k! Call me with your plans, I have an idea for tonite.
What’s the secret password? 8)
I’m most curious to see if the jm2009 one really attends the KK with Liz_K this pm…. 😯 😆 🙄
brew,
practice
party
karaoke
(order TBD)
Hmmm….
speaking of “party”…
I hope the blog host was able to wake up in time for the Coaches’ Clinic 🙄
Isn’t it more likely:
eat,
practice,
eat,
party,
eat,
eat,
game,
eat,
karaoke,
eat,
night cap and snack….. 😆
And just like that my calendar opens up a bit. Let’s see, the scrimmage today is at 3:00? I’ll be there. Where do you guys sit at baseball? Maybe I’ll take in a game there too. No Vball, though.
Wasn’t it a class reunion…. for old classmates? 🙄 😆
…can’t miss those Nuggets o’ Nowledge from the “O College” Coach about how to have the #1 HS recruit in the country on your team for 3 years and manage to win 1 championship….
…but I digress.
W-Mojo – Do you have tix for the Wazzu game? I think my bros may join me and attend…. including the Consumer Rights Advocate one that you know…. 😀
C_C ~ I bear witness to the fact that D-1 did in fact place that call on the night of April 17th, at exactly 10:19 PM (22:19 hrs). Many are called, few are chosen!
These were not like the women I had to protect you from on Maui. These were the real deal! The REAL Miller girls!
As a matter of fact, we had 4 young Rainbow dancers seated 3 rows below us at the Les. You could have very easily met at least one and married her by the 8th inning!
#265 – Hmmmmm…. is that the FHS or the SLHS in you that’s saying that….?
#267 –
Would have to be a “shot-gun” wedding…. about 20 “shots” each…. 😆
So does anyone know if the practice/scrimmage today will be on the Field Turf?
That’s why it’s called a TEAM sport….. 😆
Brew ~ I’m betting that jm2375 will wimp out on the KK tonite. She’ll attend the VB match with Ms Lizzie, but will either drop Liz off at the club, or ask her to bum a ride with myki and sj after the game.
Yeah…. that’s what I’m guessing too…. 🙄
The Dog Wash is now open! (as I have been “informed” by Mrs. d1島)
…see you at the practice field!
Unless….Uncle SteveM can convince her to get all the 411 about cruising at Club Genji…. 😯
It must be Saturday if d1島 and Bones get bathes…. 😆
Not a chance brew!…jmxxxx has a deadly fear of microphonia.
Looks like Boston’s got their hands full with Chicago in this series…
Re: microphonia – Nobody says you have to sing! 🙄
MIH – Parked! 😆 😯 😆
Hey brew! Mrs. 99’s making meatloaf tonight. I picked up some chicken thighs to grill tomorrow…probably’ll do them teri style.
Oh…. and there’s also on/off-ramp, emergency lane, and gutter…. 😆
Good news / Bad news……….
The good news is, she’s in the lead, the bad news is, the kid (not DPK) got humbled! 🙂
