Bolla out as UH coach
UH today made official what was known for a while: Jim Bolla will no longer coach the women’s basketball team. The process was extensive while UH tried to go through “due diligence” steps. A search/screening committee for Bolla’s successor is being formed, but the timeline certainly will hinder recruiting.
* * *
• In the past 10 years, UH’s four-wide offense had a basic alignment: if the ball is in the middle, there are two receivers on the left and two on the right of the formation; if it’s on the right hashmark, there are three receivers to the left; if it’s on the left hash, there three receivers on the right. But this spring, the Warriors are mixing it up. And that’s where receiver Greg Salas fits in. Last year, the Warriors tried to motion Salas into the slot. “Now, if we want, he can start off there,” coach Greg McMackin said. “We have a lot of options.”
• Salas saved the best for last today, making a diving catch off a long pass from Greg Alexander. After that, the horn sounded, signaling the end of practice. Really, there was no need to continue.
• Running back Inoke Funaki is expected to be the holder, succeeding Tim Grasso. But quarterback Shane Austin worked out there today.
• Safety Kenny Estes, a former All-State soccer player, practiced his field-goal attempts today. “I don’t want to jinx anything,” said Estes, who declined to elaborate on his audition.
• Vili Nauahi is looking more comforable as an outside linebacker. Even though he sometimes makes the wrong reads, his effort is very good.
• Coaches continue to gush about running back Leon Wright-Jackson’s workouts and play in practices. Wright-Jackson deflected the praise, saying, “I’m just trying to have fun.”

We’ll miss our ad guru, Tia Ward, who is leaving the islands at the end of the month.
Yup no surprise here.
#2
Number tree.
Is there any procedure to expedite the process? Other state universities seem to be able to do it (Kentucky with Calipari, Arizona almost with Floyd). Is UH just backward?
cinco
good morning.
due diligence takes time but its necessary.
no practice updates
top 10!
cheepono out!
Top 10!
9!
🙂
I meant expediting the hiring process, not the firing process.
Howzit Everybody,
I gotta say “It’s about time”. Now we can build a solid foundation for our womens program again.A foundation that we had with Vince Goo. Vince Goo you ready to come back. Eh Big Wave interesting candidate with the former Iolani Coach.
Finally!
Word on the street…
The son of Stephen Tsai will be on TV (OC16) tomorrow night as his school HMA takes on Word of Life Academy 5:30pm.
Stephen stop by ok??? Jim Leahey will be doing play by play.
Good luck and aloha!
Dave
P.S. Punahou vs Iolani follows.
Errrr…in boys volleyball that is…
dave ~~ congrats on your engagement!
Son of Tsai? Sounds like a sequel to an action movie
Great to hear that LWJ is looking good this spring. Hope he has an outstanding season.
Son of Wai sounds like something that……..
oh wait…… Oh HI Faye 🙂
inquiring minds wish to know…..can son of tsai sing the lion?
well no surprise about bolla
and yes, due diligence is and was necessary.
yeah, i’d like to see vince goo back at the helm. his old staff is still around, i mean, they were all at nearly all the games huddled up there in the rafters.
there’s one automatic recruit coming regardless, according to the coconut wireless, that being shawna-lei kuehu former poy of this state.
A productive season outta LWJ would be awesome!
how did Nevada hire a bsktbl coach within 24 hours without a blue-ribbon screening committee comprised of business execs with little or no basketball experience?
Shame on the wolf pack administration for lacking the application of due dillegence.
muguishi…..nah, he has too much on his plate already. time for him to make some serious money before he retires. he probably did forego 1 or 2 hundred thousand a year, each year that he coached at iolani. all for the love of the game and the kids.
Need to make a trip out into the area of the ceded lands…
Kekoa…..you hungry?
LWJ needs to play with confidence when the lights go on. I am pulling for him to break out already. He has the tools to be a very good back, if he can put it all together and run with confidence he’ll be very productive for us this season.
It’s good to hear that they’re exploring with different alignments. I think it’s good to have the opposing D see different alignments/formations & even different personnel “packages”. That may cause them to re-adjust their play-call at the line of scrimmage. Any type of confusion can only help the O.
UH has to change its hiring process for coaches…it’s not like hiring the chancellor, dean or president..now we watch until a search committee is assembled, then they place an ad that is put out for a month, the committee narrows the search to 5, then submits to JD who picks one to submit to the bor for approval…can we say in about 2 months, and isn’t recruiting starting this month….
Good morning everyone!
Good news about Bolla departing.
#1 Tommy — are you a new here or are you the “Tommy” from the 2007 football season? Sorry, hard to tell with only first names…in any event, welcome!
wf2…..different strokes for different state university’s.
what we speak of due diligence is in reference to the separation process of the former coach.
now the hiring process is another animal. unfortunately, the state of hawaii’s hiring process is not like nevada’s. therefore, they can move faster than we.
these hiring policies are ingrained in to the system and there is nothing we could do about it unless the laws/regs, etc. are ammended in the next session. it also is probably due to the union contract pertaining to hire and fire.
breakout season from lwj would be nice.
wf2, just for info, but hawaii is the worst state to do any business and anything that is tied to the state is dictated by politics and micromanagement. plus you have to deal with the unions. look at how many of the old kamaaina businesses either moved out of hawaii or just folded.
Thanks. I haven’t posted much. Not sure what the 2007 football season means.
One Greg continues to impress with his sticky.
The other Greg needs to release more quickly.
Son of Tsai sounds like a guy who used to stalk the NY nights during the 70s….oh, wait, that was the Son of Sam…
Once the game slows down for LWJ he will do great. But if he continues to hesitate and not hit the whole hard just as weve seen in the past he will be a waiste of talent. It needs to be instilled that he is a powerback at least in his brain. Then you will see his running style and production change.
Didn’t they hire Mack in a week last year? I thought they expedited the hiring process for him.
What is it with Hawai’i and the length of time it takes to replace people? Is it that difficult to find good people to step in? Or, is it a political backwater that must cater to some sort of antiquated bureaucracy?
Sometimes it feels as if someone sitting in a darkened room in some far-off land must nod his head in silent and mysterious approval following sufficient and appropriate monetary offerings.
The Nevada AD already knew who to hire. Just a different approach and procedure in the hiring process. It is what it is.
Lunch is calling…
I don’t even think the Nevada Board of Regents approved the hiring yet but obviously it is a slam dunk.
al, thanx for the technical description of the obvious problem–my dad used to call it the david trask syndrome.
whitey, ahhhh, my type of Howard Cosell, “tell like it is” guy.
VG10.
Now, we can see what better men are made from as this pandora box puts on its wheels and heads up Nu’uanu for the pali.
mid day observations….’
i am too far away from the ceded lands.
my stomach is calling for lunch, too.
time for a search and destroy mission.
ga ’09, will be new and improved. now that he is familiar with the system watch his “release” come quickly. last year it was all about the indecision rather than the physical deficits.
I wonder if the coaches where impressed with LWJ’s blocking and taking hits, or just his running?
wf2, roysan16…..
its time that we put a face to your collective insights here on the blog lately. let’s do this tsaiko style and begin with a cattle call?
you boys game?
No matter who coaches, good luck to the Warrior Wahines!
Al, count me in for the CC, metaphysically off course.
wafan wrote:

Bingo!
Homey wrote:
“It is what it is.”
…and wazz dat?
off = of
But really, either sentence seems to be correct
lwj…..yup.
we are all pulling for his breakout season. no one could be more frustrated than he.
a lot of competition will come this spring and then some come fall. i suggest that lwj go watch some of the great ones. ones that are more suited to his abilities.
for example, herschel walker, eric dickerson, bo jackson, and the like those type who had world class speed, size, and not so much shake and bake but, the sort that ran for ten yards faster than any linebacker alive. that to me is his style of running; see hole…..run quick….run through em or around em.
al, game?
how far can u be from ceded lands if they comprise 40% of State lands?
bye bye Bolla, bye bye
Tsun of Tsai- Have a GREAT game!
Lunchtime.
LV . . .
Glad to see you are back!
Yep, “off” or “of” both work. Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
Unfortunately if you don’t have a process in place it can become too easy to abuse the system. The process slows things down and makes things a real pain sometimes but on the other hand I think there is an overall benefit to transparency.
This is women’s BB as well — lower profile with candidates lower on the radar screen.
al wrote:

Ok, sounds logical.
Is that your gut talkin’?
instinctively, i dont feel the same w GA as I did about Colt after his first year.
Would that be correctly stated as the Tson of Tsai?
Perhaps “The Art of Vball” by Tsai’s Tson?
Wafan,
That was my one lucid moment of the day.
Been kinda busy, Trying to make up for cut hours, maintain rental properties and keeping our little girl dog alive.
Had a nice dinner with d1 though, got to talk some football and enjoy a Korean BBQ.

OK, did “transparency” as u characterize it, make it better in the Riley Wallace replacement hire.
Many folkz conclude differently.
Nice article on Jayson Rego…..another Stretch or jojo?

LV . . .
Glad to hear you are okay. Too bad about the cut hours. I guess this bad economy is hitting everyone. Sorry about your girl dog, too. Saying goodbye can be so hard.
Looking forward to September! That is going to be a lot of fun.
AL: Vince Goo would be well-received by many as the women’s basketball coach. There is also a certain assistant BB coach in place right now who seems to have the confidence of the wahines and won when Bolla was not around. She also had head coaching experience if I recall correctly.
Yes – a CC is definitely in order!
Instead of “The Art of Vball”, how about “The Tsai-ence of the Tserve”?
afternoon gang!
duffer – thanks for sharing the article, last night news featured one of the mens vb players also majoring in engineering
wf2…
“ceded lands” as referenced to d1’s post = the ceded lands whereupon the venerable kekoa resides.
next, there shall never be a quarterback ever as he, the colt brennan. thus, no one shall ever don the jersey number 15.
so what about a cattle call brother. are you game?
Now transparency is an interesting word per se and is often a word manipulated and bantered as a theme of righteousness and cause.
Yet, it too, can be abused.
As an example, our President talked feverishly in pre-election speeches about transparency in legislation and in his hour of office passed the omnibus bill with over 8,000 earmarked clauses and bailout fiascos that included 11th hour bonuses to AIG execs, et al.that congress was not adequately informed.
How about his nominating 6 to important cabinet positions whom had IRS issues, including his Treasury selection.
Yes, transparency, is a noble thought, but is equally problematic in an environment fraught with self-agenda and bureaucratic apathy.
We have seen our wahine basketball program slip beneath the waters in titantic proportions–all in full view of our community.
What we do need is program integrity, quick action and stout leadership and like the fateful Titantic, Im afraid that the wahine bb controversy is merely the tip of an iceberg that threatens the salvation of an entire program.
nice to hear lwj is turning heads, we sure need him healthy
was it the unlv game in 07 when he blew by all the defenders
or was that mouton’s interception return
hmmm …… memory not too good
al, excuse my tsaiko naivety, but what is cattle call?
also, is kekoa a dhhl-homesteader?
Our hiring “processes” are usually works in progress and get adjusted when there are abuses. As long as people remain self-centered, laws must protect the innocent. Some day, self-discipline and spirit will mature in our population and laws will be understood and exercised on a higher level. As in “spirit of the law”.
Until then, I guess “letter of the law” will just have to keep revising as people keep finding loopholes.
Cattle call: gathering of Tsai-kos for food- usually at a lunch time buffet restaurant.
It is what it is…No can help, deal with it, screw it, oh well, dumb people, nothing’s going to change, who cares, don’t know what else to say, that’s the truth, leave it alone, I give up…
Take your pick or use your own meaning.
I’m game for a cc with wf2 and roysan16. More for the cc… 😆
al – Remember now, Walker and Jackson also ran over people. I remember when Brian Bosworth got dumped on his arse by Mr. Bo Jackson on national television. Not only did he run over Bosworth he ran for over 200 yards in that game…IIRC.
wf2- interesting Tsai-ko reading: http://home.roadrunner.com/~smurashi/tsai-kos/
Hi m-homey!
Hi Ho!
homey….well i heard that lwj is now up to 220 lbs of solid beef.
I was thinking of being an engineer until I found out copying computer programs are way easier.
Hiya cougar MLiz! 😆
homey….i am watching “mlb tonight” one of the hosts is a filipina named hazel mae. too bad she’s not doing weather for kitv.
she was voted in the top 7 hottest female sportscasters. i can see why.

are you game?
you pick the day and time and we’ll show up. for suitable initiation we should go to camellia’s mccully.

al, very thoughtful gesture, much appreciated bud, u da man.
Wait, not everyday and time I can be there…
Hi Big C!
Can’t wait to see someone interview Bolla and get his viewpoints.
ok homey…..you pick em…..but next week i am gone from wednesday.
Re: Vince Goo.
When this whole mess headed toward this conclusion, Goo offered to serve as interim coach, at no pay.
Hey, he built the program, and look what happened.
It’s not just the mutiny or the losses. There’s no booster club.
There’s no connection with the community.
Nobody asked him to do it, but JB kept saying he would raise money. He didn’t. It wasn’t in his job description, but, sheesh, he did go on and on about it.
I know Bolla complained that he was short-staffed.
But, hey, he agreed to take one less coach if it meant pumping up his assistants’ salaries.
And this year, they had better contracts and he got to hire his wife.
I say we get Goo for an “interim” basis. Gotta stop the bleeding right away or else…..
As for the process in hiring coaches, that’s the price of fairness.
Of all of the problems before in bidding for contracts, the extra steps to ensure fairness are a small price.
Back on the Ceded lands this PM. Attended fb practice this AM with Pops. Bumped into Curveball, and as we were comparing notes, Uku from LA came upon us!
He’s here on a mission of mercy, visiting family and what not. Lots of catching up to do with him since I hadn’t seen him since my New Orleans Tsaiko Tsick Call Buffet on New Years morning. I’ll post a photo of him here in a bit.
ok, how many head coaches at uh left from the hf era?????
Howzit, homey!
What was for kau kau today…I see you’ve been gone for your normal 3 hour lunch……dim sum?
homey ℞ – this thursday, right? if not call 867-5309 …..
kekoa – see you tomorrow?
Kekoa any cc for Uku? or you forgot?
would be nice to see Coach Goo at the helm again
no disrepect to the current coaches though
al – MLiz not a Kaiserette.
‘cougar’ but not a Kaiserette? aiyaaa
she was voted in the top 7 hottest female sportscasters. i can see why.
who was at the top? oh…..
yah, vince has had a five year hiatus, let’s call it a “sabbatical leave”, and should be fresh and raring to go. many of us have heard that he too was squeezed out of the bottle like riley.
vince is still a young 62. we should hire him before he contemplates exercising his right to an early social security benefit.

Hoooey…Loa…no give out my number…bumbye Mrs. C going make da kine prank calls to my house….MWAHAHAHAHAHA
Big C – Let us know when Mr. C is available so homey and I, and the rest of the bunch, can take him to lunch…. 🙂
ST, have you talked with Dwain Williams regarding his verbal commit to UH? Looks like this kid also committed to Kent State last month.
and stretch will take him to darkside.
al,
Call in sick this weekend!
Hey there Big C! No dim sum today. Just killing some time with the homies on Hotel St…
(J)J – You think Big C going get all huhu and habut if we go out lunch with Mr. C?
al – We’ll just wait till you get back. T-gate is on the 25th so come one come all!
Ohhh…JJ….how you dream……..
Loa – Yep this thursday. Call me at 555-6161 and ask for Mike Brady.
wf2…..meet us at the spring game tailgate.
homey….shoots. yah, a post spring cc would be good. maybe we could get that back room and maybe the blog host could procure some video footage????
st, princess…………..so, are the opening giggles now a permanent part of the program?
if scott needs more tape, we can buy him some.
princess…..every princess that i know of always lets her hair down. you got the nice long locks….so, show em off like that.
hi faye!
thurs a great day on the waves–amen corner and Tiger’s quest for 4-five and the bowz playing in Reno’s bombs-away park.
al – Yep a post spring game cc sounds good. Someone mentioned that Koi’s (Dillingham) is ono, but I don’t know if it is dine in or just buy and eat at a park.
Here is a photo of Pops, Curveball & UKU from LA. They were standing in the *dark side* of the Manoa Mist. I know it looks like I took it with my Brownie Box camera, but my iphone still had maka pia pia insiie!

Big C…I’m in your dreams again??? LMAO
homey…I thought it was 555-BUFT
Rob25 – curveball has eyes on top of his head!
Thanks Rob25 for helping out Kekoa.
(J)J – Yeah, like you said, it was… Big C said it was a nightmare.
It was a good practice today at Ching Field..concentrated on the DB’S and Safety”s…The #1 unit appears to be Davis, Hopkins, Smith, and Bryant. Mana Silva looks really good as does Kenny Estes. The DB’S intercepted 4 passes during the drills with the receivers. They were very impressive today. I still say this team is practicing much better than last year. The 2 new coaches are doing a hell of a job so far…..The catch by Salas at the end of the day was unbelievable. Stretched out and a one handed reception for 35 yards going full speed with a DB all over him….
WOW, I need to watch myself. A few people, some I know, a few I don’t approached me and asked if I was duffer. Nah I’m homey!
In any event, I invited all to the cc this Saturday am and to Tiffanys after the game. Plus the “tour”
Tank-Q Rob25 ~ Now Homey goin’ take away my magic decoder ring!
Re: Hiring Process
Agreed with expat #54 and ST #90.
It gives all qualified candidates an opportunity to apply. When I hear someone say they should “make a quick decision on a replacement”, my mind correlates that as “Oh, they’re just gonna pick favorite(s), even if they aren’t the most qualified.” That’s just me, YMMV.
IMO, I would rather the UHAD methodically consider all of the candidates who express interest in the job, even if it takes longer to do, than to simply select someone in short order so as to appease the emotions of its fanbase.
Hey, maybe they might find someone with good credentials who they wouldn’t have otherwise considered…..
curveball, thanx for sharing.
we need solid improvement at safety and we do look better with tank, davis and smith–agree.
i too, like tormey on the backside.
? marks at CB–we need a physical, shut-down corner to make our blitzing schemes effective….dont expect it in 2009 but the way MAC n staff r recruiting–it wont be long.
got to root 4 our 2 out-isle boyz who were recruited by coach miano….pivotal years for both….best wishes to estes and silva.
kudos to our two DB monarchs– Richard “the Lion Hearted” and Kawika—make ’em believers!
homey ℞:
I got eyes eveywhere…….
Rob25 ~ Curveball not going to Maui because he is being called in on a special assignment. I think it’s a Magnum P.I. re-run with Five-0 implications. These gumshoe guys are a strange breed!
So scratch him off our shuttle list. One less person to worry about losing on the dark side tour.
wf2 – You don’t mean Richard and Kawika are Damien grads do you? Wait that sounded funny…you know what I mean. 😆
curveball – You work tomorrow?
Aloha Bolla.
I hope Marilyn takes her time. Need someone who can fit in.
Hey Vince………….Alika…………
I am one who hires an AD and EXPECTS him to move quickly on new hires. He is paid to B responsible and accountable.
transparency in Hawaii is hog wash and is an abused resume-building art in Manoa fused with a union mindset.
Move quickly, cut delays and get the freeking program up and running.
homey ℞:
so far…. but I am trying to make adjustments..I will know soon
homey, lol. no, brah but i see where it could be confusing.
their first names are plays on historical Monarchs–Richard I of England and David Kalakaua=torres (the lion h) and ornellas (kawika).
D-1 ~ Sorry I couldn’t make it back in time to break Manapua with you at Kam Wah Chun Noodle Factory. By the time Pops and I left practice grabbed some breakfast and did a quick commissary run at Hickam, was aftah 1 aurready.
homey ℞ – 10-4, left u a voice message
curveball – hopefully you can make the adjustments
(j)j – so thats what the j stands for
kekoa – there you go making me hungry again
seriously, u sound like bowstock.
al, ur2g–schedule permiting, its green–but if not, ill send a replacement from hooters….if datz kosher?
Hey, really enjoyed the Warrior Beat show w/Rich Miano yesterday. Highlight videos, good inside info on the players and system, an articulate coach, a pretty girl and, well, Stephen. Watched the whole thing. Great job. Miano was such a good tackler at UH. He’d run up from safety, whack the guy, the guy would go straight down. Those, were the days.
Stephen, I’m not altogether sold that the issue of fairness applies to the hiring of a head coach in the same way that public contracts are advertised for bid.
YpoWarrior pointed out that Mack was hired a week after JJ left. What a memory! UHAD’s 1/16/08 announcement of Mack’s hire: http://www.hawaiiathletics.com/news/2008/1/16/FB_975214.aspx?path=football
The situation is similar – coach leaves after end of season and a little before the signing period for the recruiting class. Uncertainty for the program. Should women’s basketball be treated any differently? Does expediency only apply when hiring from within (since Mack was already associate head coach) but not someone outside of UH?
I dunno. Hiring a head coach seems to be more effective through the use of a headhunting type process than a classified ad process to me. You still will be trying to identify and pursue the candidates who are the best fit for the program.
lgw, bowstk? my better-half thinks I sound like GW and my kids swear Im Kim Jong-il….so much 4 impressions.
homey ℞:
I will be at practice Thursday…
wf2 – Good one on the Monarchs.
Hope for no traffic tomorrow morning…
wf2 and Duster – Good points.
jd knew that he was going to let jb go and went to the final 4 to convince the hc at uconn that there is an opening at uh. true or false???
ok, no look good at getting the hc at uconn, but jd had a chance to see what women’s bb is like, so he can look for an hc that can compete in today’s game (i hope and pray).
Homey . . .
#79. I think you meant bull or steer. A steer used to be a bull but is not confused.
I can hardly await to see the names on UHADs screening commitee for the wahine basktbl hire.
Someone from a bank, an airlines, real estate venture capital and prolly a soon-to-be-selected Honolulu Rail-Transit Project Director.
Deja vu or short-term memory?
Wilson, where art thou?
eh, whitey, no make like dat–the last time a UHAD was at national bsktbl final he 2 was scouting 4 a new hire….jinx brah….goin on 3 years later and we are worst off.
I’m sure there’s always an opening for Bolla at Temple with his buddy.
whitey…..
you need a coach.
you go to a place where all the coaches have gathered.
you inadvertently mentioned, “oh by the way, who wants to come to paradise?”
you leave your hotel room door open w/food n beverages just in case you need to entertain someone.
you play na leo’s video “my hawaii” 24/7.
you may come home with some idea of who is available.
chico furtado.
he may lack the hc @d1 experience qualifications. but, he does everything else right w/a girls program.
So what , or who, does it take to start shaving down the, “Due dilligance” process ? Wasted money, wasted time. Something that UH cannot afford.
Please don’t tell me a Obama story
to whomever is selected as the hc……………
please hire nani cockett as one of your assistants.
she is a natural fit, alumni, ex-professional, coaching experience, local connections, and the passion for the game and university.
mav…its in the union agreement.
funny thing about the coaching profession. irregardless of what sport, if you go to enough meetings, clinics, competition, etc. you will know who can fit into your program and do a good job. i agree many are good coaches, but are in the game for ego and money. nothing wrong with that, but uh cannot afford that kind of coach. there are many coaches who will not move because they love the school, players, alumni, etc. so looking around may not be the best, but you do need to look and meet as many coaches and learn about them. keep them as friends and it makes it much easier to find good coaches for your program. in other words, hoomalimali is good.
again, the due diligence has to do with termination or separation process as they like to kindly call it these days.
the hiring process also has its rules, though most have to do with time frames regarding number of days the job vacancy must be posted. thus, the so-called delays in hiring.
eh whitey….sort of like lomilomi yah?
i don’t know the present uh women bb asst coach, but she should be considered and given a chance to present herself with the committee. she earned that right (the hard way).
Loa ~ It’s not intentional. Sometimes the fuud just seems to appear like pop-ups on a ‘puter screen.
After watching an exciting conclusion to todays practice, it called for French Toast made from Sweetbread to celebrate the play of the day.
The defense sometimes had their way with the offense, it was a final statement made by Salas that he was not having anymore of it!
al, you right. it is an easy process if you understand it. most difficult, if you have an ego.
the field that the team will scrimmage on this sat is a george toma special. he is responsible for the field. toma is the turf guru for the kc chiefs. my friend who worked with toma on the field says that he does not appreciate mediocrity and let go some of the workers because they cannot do the job. since the hula bowl left, toma has not returned, but the field should still be in good condition. grass, not turf, so speed will be slowed as compared to turf.

I wonder what the flesh is like — tough, stringy, tender? Does it smell or taste odd? How is it as a sashimi?
And, I just finished dinner. I need a munchie.
While the weather outside is not indicitive of the actual mood I am feeling today, I just want to say what a beautiful day it turned out to be.
Jim Bolla,
Aloha oe, aloha oe, GET OUT!!!
😆
The union agreement that stifles the islands, with UH at the helm of the ship.

The HA article was updated with names. Marilyn, David Uchiyama, Vince Goo, Jill Nunokawa, Don Murphy.
At least the resolvement is solved in the right direction.
But if some “True Grit ” was involved, a new coach could of been found earlier.
Re: the Women’s BB team, I agree with Whitey if he’s talking about Pat Charity?
Can somebody let me know if I’m butchering her correct name. I like her style & the girls seem to respond to her coaching with the exception of that blow-out
near the end of the season. As for the football team, I’m chomping at the bit already. The addition of the the 2 veteran coaches (Shaw & Tormey) along with
a Grad Assistant that was a tough & legitimate NFL player just gives me a great vibe & I expect this development to pay dividends very soon. I seriously doubt many teams will be laughing at UH this season.
hey there al agree with your pick of chico and nani. they would be good coaches only thing is if they are compatible coaches. another supa assistant would be dennis agena has many local ties. had a great clinic while at kalakaua but moved it to kalani where their program is going well.
whitey, good of u to mention toma.
just sharing….
during its construction, a friend and i would bust-out brewskis and pupus from our cooler by the wahine softball stadium after george was pau and he would share how he started his apprenticeship with his dad during the depression years in the mid-west. They would spruce up fields and diamonds to bring back pride to the community and work for free. It was hard-times for all and george started early learning about giving from the heart for a good cause.
Kinda of like Kevin Costner did w his Iowa corn field in the movie, Field of Dreams.
I admired the guy. Indeed, george toma is a rare individual and he loved JJ, he said so, many times, but this guy was a genius with dirt and had so much passion and heart for his profession.
Hawaii lucked-out and got a million-dollar gem for a dime.
Everytime i am at the grassy-fields george built i think of this man.
its a crime they dont name it after him–Toma Field.
It represents a genuine spirit of pure heart, a trait we need not to forget.
now Kazz let us know how you truly feel bwhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Kazz,
not let forget the saying, “Don’t let the door hit your okole on the exit”
Kazz,
You do the same thing when the opposition’s head coach stay ejected from the baseball game?
tsai to be on the radio with the sports animals soon this afternoon.
Kekoa – gotta get the bonfire going!! Just make sure it’s far enough away from the clubhouse that we don’t have to call HFD. 🙂
Ooops, time to pick up the keeed. bbl.
So, a new coach will not be found, or announced before LOI day ?
Failed management.
Same ole same ole
I thought there was a new breath of air after Frazier left.
This could be a story that will linger for a while. Hopefully this won’t end up like the Dobelle situation.
Saw Keisha on campus today. She wouldn’t comment but, for what it’s worth, she was smiling ear to ear.
Maybe Frazier will get Bolla a job at Temple. Y’know, since he felt he was worth a contract extension at UH…
Here’s to wishing LWJ a great season! He looked awesome in the Florida game…until he got katooshed… he just wasn’t the same after that. I know they say it was his ankle that bothered him throughout the season but I’m sure him catching that lick had something to do with it as well…
MWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Ok.
Hey BOLLA, kefe.
Nah Mav. LET IT!
I never thought I’d hear LWJ’s name and Charmaine Star’s name used in the same sentence…
Our RB situation will be fuzzy untill we get chizzy.
Look, if u want action–it might not be Jackson.
Our RBs are lean but not alex Green.
el Libre is my pix but will he get six?
oh well, whatz w all da myth–we got Smith.
Exact -a – mundo Kazz.
As Mike states above, the only one that will hire this man for a future in coaching is currently at Temple.
Hey, who’s on L & L tonight?
Maverick – i usually get chicken katsu, two scoops rice, mac salad and a diet pepsi. bwhahahahahaha.

Re: E-Bolla
About freeking time.
How did #190 happen? I didn’t post that to this blog! Does that automatically post if I link to ST’s blog from my blog? If that is the case, then I won’t be able to link to ST’s posts in my blog…which means I cannot direct people to this blog from my blog. I’ll remove the link in my blog now just in case.
There, I changed it so that you cannot click on the link in my blog to take you here. I would hate it if this blog software doesn’t like it if I link to ST’s blog!
Jim Mills talked about making the Canadian Football Hall of Fame:
The Texas congressman who is trying to get a playoff for college football says that Pres. Obama has already told him that he would support the playoff system and sign the bill if it is passed by Congress.
I’ve been trying to link to the articles I get quotes from…that way, anyone who goes to my archive can just click on the link and go to the full article. However, I won’t do that anymore for this blog if the Advertiser’s software will put spam because I link to this blog. Maybe Jason or homey will understand what I should do, they know this stuff better than me.
I haven’t hit the tables yet today…I’m going in about 10 minutes. The drive went well–I drove the whole way and traffic was surprisingly light, even in Vegas!
We hit the “Feast” buffet here–not nearly the greatest buffet in Vegas but at least it was free for my entire family. Thank you to 702WarriorNation for the reminder that there is a 2-for-1 coupon in the Las Vegas newspaper for that buffet! Part of the problem for us may have been that they had a special spread for passover, and that food isn’t what we were looking for.
Anyway, I did have 5 plates and then dessert and the meal was free so I cannot complain too much…
Interesting review of the Warriors on Yahoo…this guy does these early assessments for all teams and I thought I should post when he did UH’s review. He goes over everything pretty completely, but makes some basic fact-checking mistakes (David instead of Greg, Aloha instead of Hawaii).

mike,
does bolla have to write a research paper too?
Good evening Tsaikos everywhere.
This much I know is true. We gotta back up our man JD tooth and nails. no ifs, ans or butts about it.
that means tix for next season, screaming out butts off. I commit to coming to Hono for a couple of games just for the young ladies.
– – – – –
da mrs was tellikng me about her meeting up with ERob in LA on 3/31. Nice young man. He was impressed dat us Tsaikos are really backing up UH Warriors. With the Field. Going to Sugar. Fla. UNLV. He was goikng to his Pro Day
She let dat Warrior know get support on da outter islands.
Thanks ERob, you made da wife’s day. mine too.
c_c . . .
Please explain your #205 re: research paper.
Wafan part of Dobelle’s settlement to leave UH and get his money he had to write a research paper….
so Wafan pay your kids and they will write a research paper for your class
thanks Ralph.
wasn’t it for something really easy or nonsensical?
Ralph . . .
Pay my kids what? Rocks? Heck, I already allow them the privilege to breathe my air. HA!
I know some of the research we had to do in grad school was used by my profs in their “research” and published papers. At least, though, we got credit as contributors.
Thanks for the clarification!!!
Good luck garret Have fun and give them hell. Don’t too much for you will pay the piper later. Darn it, I lost one side of my golf shoe today so now I will have to get a new one. Must have fallen out when I took it off from my truck…
leon wright-jackson looks good? I hope it’s better than his one carry for 4 yards a game. If he would play like a blue chipper, we’d have that big time threat we had in nate. I just hope leon’s shoes are the right type, you know, since he would’ve had a big season last year if it wasn’t for his shoes…
Momo,
I stopped gambling for the night because I need to be up early with the kids. I’m up $100, so it was a good time to stop. No need to push things tonight since I need to take the girls swimming tomorrow and also to Circus Circus, plus Lori and the girls want to see Luxor (they have never been) and the gardens at Bellagio. Busy day…then I can gamble tomorrow night after they are all exhausted.

No problem…was just last minute anyway.
Found the new Office Max…just followed some det-cord that someone carelessly left behind.
heheheh
Feature story on Chris Tormey and Gordie Shaw.
Oops, that should be “Gordy” instead of “Gordie”.
well if shaw is making changes in the protection scheme and he states that the pocket is better for the qb then he must have seen something about Smiths alignment that needed work…
D-1 ~ Like Sgt. Schultz from Hogan’s would say, “I know No-Sing, Herr Komandant!” Hehehehe…
jm2375 ~ Unable to build bonfire due to our down economy. Construction costs have skyrocketed, so we would have to wait for Prez Obama to bail us out if we did want to go that route.
In lieu of the bonfire, we are considering lighting used candles for a brief 3 minute ceremony in front of the SSC as soon as JD gives us the green light.
Kazz will be invited to say a few parting words, along with our most eloquent speaker, bhf2.

Ralph good one.
At least we know Gordie knows what we all know. Lol.
But seriousily, I cant tell u how big an upgrade gordie and chris will be. they know what they need to make chicken salad.
Kekoa – ahhhh, disappointing. Could we at least get an e-Bolla-gy? (get it?)
Off-topic – saw the news story about the layoffs at Brand X. Good luck to those who lost their jobs.
jm ~ We can’t find anyone else besides Kazz or bhf2 to say a few words. An e-Bolla-gy would be a bit much to ask for. I think even coach Bulla is unable to make it.
Wow,so interesting story and really you have done nice work for your blog.thanks for this post…
Kekoa – I had something a little more sinister in mind when I said “e-Bolla-gy”. 👿
Hey Mental Dental…some people have no shame advertising their business on this blog. Sheesh! God will get you for this!
Bye to Bolla. The things people do to themselves and others!
jm#### – What you had in mind, a live burial?
Almost time to leave for practice.
Homey:
What practice is that? Drinking practice? Fuud eating practice? Bwahahahaha!!!!!!!!
it was about time!!! my our women deserve better then that. let’s get us a real big time coach and put our program back on the map! pleasse?
i hope that our passing game this season sees the 4th quarter! last year was real hard to watch, towards the end of the games. all of our WR’s are weapons, we need to get them balls to catch. c’ya in the stands!!!
