Fisher exploring options
Hawaii assistant coach Scott Fisher could very well be plying his trade elsewhere next season, independent of the NCAA’s findings of the UH men’s hoops program.
“I’m employed by UH but yes I am investigating other options,” Fisher wrote in a message to the Star-Advertiser on Tuesday.
Fisher’s Australian connections remain strong. He’s regarded as a true Hall of Famer there based on his playing and coaching experience after his days at UC Santa Barbara.
He’s been with Gib Arnold since Arnold’s arrival in Manoa in 2010.
UPDATE: Arnold said this in a message when asked about Fisher’s comment: “Coach Fisher is a finalist for a Collegiate Head Coaching position that he has interest in. I obviously support him and think he would make an excellent Head Coach.”
Fisher started at UH as the director of operations as his first gig with a Division I program. From there, he worked his way up to full assistant with the departure of Walter Roese after Arnold’s first season.
His primary responsibility is working with the UH big men. One of Fisher’s other duties included overseeing team academics.
UH’s current director of operations, Chris McMillian, previously confirmed with the Star-Advertiser he was exploring options at other colleges/universities to become a full assistant coach.

In case you missed it, UH recruiting target Joey Frenchwood committed to Montana State. You won’t see UH putting that on its list of “best recruiting near misses” anytime soon.
Fish ,we’re going to miss you, more so your student athletes will , any school that lands you gains a person of great character , experience and a guy with a rye sense of humor. Take care ,God bless.
if you have great assistant coaches, they won’t stay put too long.
best of luck to fish and chris.
potentially chris could become fish’s replacement.
it appears that not only players are jumping ship, but coaches as well. it appears that akana will not be back as well, so gib has to recruit not only players but coaches too. something just does not look right.
assistant coaches never stay put. i repeat…
al is right observer(gib hater)you ever hear of Jamie Dixon? He was good assistant for Riley.. moved on and now at powerhouse pitt. Same with gib good assistant with usc..hot commodity..now HC at UH and headed for great 2014-15 season!!
Bruce O’Neill, Rick Pitino, Al Menendez, Pete Gillen, Riley Wallace, Jamie Dixon –
ALL UH Assistants Who Became D-1 Head Coaches …
Jeff Law and Now maybe Fish Head Coaches at other Levels…
#3 Never fails always negative with nothing but air to back up his statements.
Brian:
update on recruits visiting Hawaii for last weeks of May 2014?
Think that Sammis Reyes is here.
Gib was a hot commodity at USC? Son, they let him go.
Manoa Mist: actually gib being able to RECRUIT, even if scramble gamble, without contract, working for free first half of first season here, maybe longer, Jim Donovan and powers that be wanted him. Maybe Punahou connection.
Manoa, you know of any recruiter, and selling of UH NCAA DI MBB program in the country that would work for UH MBB coach at less than 150K a year for 3 years, no incentives? Tough sale.
Gib coach, so we stick with him. Up to Ben Jay and direction.
Manoa, the talent for next year, pretty loaded, credit to Gib and his staff, and contacts.
I hope UH will have great year next season.
Yeah, USC let him go, however Gib produced 72 wins, average of 18 wins, and two pay to play post season tourneys, and Fotu, Negus, Jankovich, Bobbitt, Fleming, Thomas, Valdes, Jovanovich, Jawato, Smith , Nevels, still on board and looking to make run for NCAA’s,
If you all hate Gib, cannot hate him for trying to better UH MBB program, and get to next level.
The guy, and his family are really Hawaii lovers, and UH MBB and UH lovers, got to love the Aloha for Hawaii, that is what makes good coaches at UH, and Gib has won so, far, winning record , at worse .500, season , Johnson got Mono.
I have to give Gib credit for really working 24/7 to better UH MBB. Nash 3 year wash, Wallace, final 4 years or so, not too good. We shall see. Gib is HC, and still winning.
USC head coach where he went?
Reyes visited at the start of the week.
Sorry but need to correct perception that last four years under Riley “not so good”. 72-49 record for those four years. A bit better than Gib’s record for four years. And SOS was above average every year. Many are cheering Gib for returning UH to respectability but forget that Riley actually was doing pretty good job. Same record over same time span so, please, no more denigrating of Riley’s last few years. Jmho
what a bunch of haters …Lewis and Reardon. I bet their next target will be Coach Trap
