Clay signs with Packers

IMG_0810

Former UH defensive back Charles Clay won’t be going home for a while.

After acing his tryout this past weekend, Clay signed a three-year contract with the Green Bay Packers.

“This is a contract of opportunity,” said John Perez, Clay’s New Jersey-based agent.

Clay was not selected in this year’s NFL draft. But he did well enough at UH’s pro day to earn an audition at the Packers’ rookie mini-camp this past week. Clay now is enrolled in the Packers’ rookie orientation program.

Clay will remain in Green Bay through mid-June, when the Packers have a three-week break ahead of the opening of training camp.

The Daley Report:

Former UH linebacker Brenden Daley, who completed rookie camp with the Falcons yesterday, will remain in Georgia until June 29. He said today is an off day for the rookies, but he plans to focus on football. An avid beach-goer in Hawaii, Daley said: “I’m only diving into my playbook now.”

Really happy for both players. Hope they make the playing roster.

Aloha all! Clay had really impressive numbers, so him getting offered a contract is not too surprising. The Seahawks just finished their rookie camp yesterday, and so some decisions about Tavita will be soon forthcoming…..

Good Morning Gangeez! 😉 Nice to see errybody this fine morning!

Hooray for Clay, that’s all I can say. Here’s hoping Brendan can also show enough improvement on a “Daley” basis to make the Falcon’s roster.

Good luck to the other Warrior NFL hopefuls, rookies returnees or free agents.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

Rooting for all the grads. Wonder how Alex Green is doing?

  12. Stephen Tsai May 19, 2014 8:39 am

It’s going to be tough for Alex Green. Jets keep picking up running backs. He just needs a chance.

  13. Gmoney May 19, 2014 8:59 am

ST: Saw a few days ago that AG was released by the NYJ. Any further info?

  14. boolakanaka May 19, 2014 9:02 am

ST…you gotta be liking the Jets Offensive roster, much improved on speed, and more versatile. If CJ has even a quarter tank left, they will be legit for a playoff run. I actually want to see Vick at the helm, at least for a handful of games.

  15. Stephen Tsai May 19, 2014 9:05 am

Green thought he was released. He wasn’t.

  16. boolakanaka May 19, 2014 9:05 am

But, I agree with you ST, Alex Green, will have to healthy the entire camp, and put on a showing. The fact that they just picked-up Daryl Richardson from the Rams, does not bode well for him….

  17. SteveM May 19, 2014 9:17 am

    Good morning everyone!

Good luck to Charles Clay and Brenden Daley.

If you have concerns about your taxes, don’t call the IRS for an audit. Call a CPA first. And that’s today’s analogy.

Is Samson Satele’s Pro career pau? If so, seems like a steep drop off. He goes from starter to no job?

ESPN released a list of the 16 top teams for the first ever FBS College football playoffs. 6 of those teams were SEC teams 🙂
I seriously wanna know why cant the FBS playoff system look like the FCS playoff system were they have like 24 teams with a LEGIT shot at going for a national title.

  23. al May 19, 2014 12:49 pm

22…the sec is the driving force behind all that is college football.

  24. st. anthony trojan May 19, 2014 1:19 pm

LAST CALL—there is a link to give them feedback about your ‘cheezy’ opinion on the site…drop then a note….see if they really care n have any CRM (customer relations management) in place…..

But if like other facets of the UHAD….don’t hold ur breath…could be august before you get a reply…if any….ne other retail establishment would not last very long in business adopting a attitude n CRM like that….he he but you see they have ‘exclusive’ n our tax dollars to support then…to a 2 million loss this year…hope BJ is correct n brings in 1/2 million this year…

why not let the SEC go on it’s mary way and the rest create a separate conference?

That would be a 5-round playoff.
So either the final 2 teams will potentially play an 18 or 19-game season or else teams that don’t get into the playoffs will be limited to a 8 or 9-game season.
And then there’s the logistical issues of 5 rounds of playoffs with moving thousands of fans from city-to-city who will only know where they are going next (if at all) on Saturday night for the following Saturday’s game. Keep in mind that none of them will have air or hotel reservations.
    Should we continue?

  27. st. anthony trojan May 19, 2014 2:01 pm

I agree with you al….it is the tail that wags the dog….in this case NCAA…

In reality they don’t need the NCAA ne more….n just go off n do on their own what they damm please…the NCAA is just taking their money….n all the same with other big conferences…

Check this scenario out: they tell the NCAA to go pump sand n say aloha. on their own they compete against themselves in all sports…n maybe a ‘guest’ game out of conference.

All athletics will now be paid…for all sports n scholarships will still be offered…maybe with same total amounts as now for each sport…pay say 4 football n basketball be structured…guess they can work that out…n have compliance…by outside sources…

So the question becomes….your son or daughter has a scholarship offer from SEC…PAC 12…
    HAWAII…who do they accept from ? ?

So, the so called ‘super conference’ now becomes ‘semi pro conference’ us small potatoes here
will be the ‘opala conference’ WHY…simple…we can’t fill our stadium…can’t sell season tickets…no ‘kala’ to join n pay the players…

    MAYBE 10 years from now…or sooner…? ?

i said it before, that will come. the sec and their fellow hoodlums will secede from the ncaa. too much college football money is being lost with the ncaa.

We all have to try n remember…they are not to many…or say…only a handfull…of ethical…honest…n moral college presidents left in this world…

Not to long ago the WAC was it…the presidents got 2 gether n iced out Hawaii….
Penn State…is one comes 2 mind…but if you google ‘college presidents fired’ n have the time to
read it all…good luck…just few weeks age female married teacher having intimate relations with 17 year old male…

It is the MONEY…..that is the way presidents will go…morals be damm…these are modern times…accept it…people in all walks of life cheat to get an vantage…in business n in politics…n yes sports …from bill belichek…to olynpics…to college…to high school…to pop warner..

As commissioner of pop warner one year…I had to suspend a coach for one year for using a jv player…n you see it in down in little league also…

They…the college presidents…will make decisions on what is good for them only…n bring in the bucks…not going to be fair…no ethics, no morals,no honesty….means…don’t cry on my money…you getting it all wet…go ur boutique buy towel…

Just look at Shojii…n count the number of times his teams have been shafted…you will need fingers n toes…plus ur wife’s n kids…sports at the small time to big time…not fair 4 sum…

  32. whitey May 19, 2014 3:34 pm

col a house, that is an excellent suggestion. those not tied with the bcs should form a major conference of their own, negotiate whatever tv (and there will be lots of interest), and form their own format. the bcs thinks like the old nfl, and that is the direction they are headed, so why argue, just break away and no play them. how they going pad their win statistics??? let them play div 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, pop warner, little league teams. there’s gold in forming your own major conference, not to mention pride.

  33. whitey May 19, 2014 3:36 pm

sa trojan, in a way, the bcs is like the government where you are right now. hahahahahaaaa

  34. Andrew May 19, 2014 3:40 pm

    32.

BCS doesn’t exist anymore, so “those not tied to the BCS” is every school now. The only way the mid major programs can form a “major” conference is if the big five conferences allow them to and that will never happen since they do not want to share the playoff money anymore than it will be already.

  35. st. anthony trojan May 19, 2014 3:48 pm

yea whitey…billions of ‘floating’ piso…from one crook to another on down the line….

  36. whitey May 19, 2014 4:00 pm

34, are you a counselor like tm???

  37. whitey May 19, 2014 4:07 pm

me, i just asking, why the other programs cannot form their own major conference??? is there a monopoly within the ncaa that says you cannot and if there is, imho, you would be treading a very fine line on anti trust laws or discrimination which would affect the non profit status for the ncaa. me not one counselor, but i only know common sense.

  38. whitey May 19, 2014 4:09 pm

    ok, back to lurking.

  39. Boolakanaka May 19, 2014 4:17 pm

27 –as to your interesting question, I guess it sort of depends on your priorities. There is no doubt, that at the moment, the SEC is the conference of primacy. I think, I read, where the entire starting defense of two years ago, was in the a NFL training camp. On the other hand, the locales of the PAC 12 schools are far more cosmopolitan and diverse, moreover, the academics are far superior, except for the outlier Vandy, and have far better reputations. I think, USC, still has more national championships than Bama. Easy decision for me…

  40. Andrew May 19, 2014 4:30 pm

    37.

Unlike other sports, football postseason is not really controlled by the NCAA. The conference commissioners and University presidents (of the big five major conferences) have more power. The other mid major programs can form whatever conference they want but if the big five conferences don’t recognize them as a major one and include them into the “inner circle”, then they are still just mid majors.

  41. st. anthony trojan May 19, 2014 4:49 pm

    KANAKA…me was trying to compare sec n pac-12….as one paying athletics…to one (pac-12) not paying….because that would make a very big difference in mama’s n papa’s budget…

Very few athletics now choose schools on academics only…they pick n choose on a coaches selling ability…n if you have a cash in your briefcase/backpack….n maybe a car….all legal…makes choices much easier for them…hate to see that happen…but think is inevitable….

It is truly sad…but with fans loaning cars….me just wonder if athletes are not informed when they enroll on scholies…what they can or not accept from fans…n if so…this dude be off the team…n fan…I guess make a new (sterling) rule…confiscate car…auction…money 4 training table summer time…

  42. st. anthony trojan May 19, 2014 5:10 pm

KANAKA…in ur time if you went to visit UH…n sat in Tomey’s office…n he put a briefcase on desk n say…this is 4 ur parents…etc…n full with money….cuz he can…n was legal…cuz our stadium is always filled game day…n ESPN airs all of our games…lots of money give UHAD 4 TV rights….n a pac 12 school…no money…etc…your choice be a moral one….? ?

  43. st. anthony trojan May 19, 2014 5:16 pm

ANDREW—ur right…they have the ‘GOLD’ in post season play…therefore…they will make the rules…am 100% certain they not give it up….scandals notwithstanding…n high salaries…expenses
etc…n the schools get a million or so…n go merrily along…

  44. Boolakanaka May 19, 2014 5:28 pm

  47. whitey May 19, 2014 7:59 pm

the $64 question is who gives a rat’s ass what the 5 so called big boys want. if you want more, go for it. so what about the bowls, are you going to get more by staying the status quo, hell no. you don’t need bowls, you need playoffs.

  48. nutmegger May 19, 2014 8:02 pm

  50. nutmegger May 19, 2014 8:14 pm

The team that can win in a full on playoff situation of more than four games is more likely to be decided by attrition and depth.

That may not be the best team during the season, but rather the team with the best back-up players that are not injured.

Strength of schedule should serve to eliminate the first tier of teams. A second tier could be eliminated using the sudden-death tie breaker rules. And then a limited play-off.

  51. kapakahi May 19, 2014 8:45 pm

    #21,

Heard that….all the latest and new UH apparel being withheld until the H-Zone Grand Opening.

  52. Warrior Dave May 19, 2014 9:18 pm

UH has an opportunity to .a key a major splash with the opening of Honor Zone on July 1st. Rainbowtique was poorly run since day one but that was vendor run. UH lost a ton of money, especially during the Colt Brennan days.

If UH can be competitive this upcoming yearand if the merchandise mix is improved and updated frequently, UH will exceed projected sales and profits.
