Warriors defeat Thompson Rivers in rematch
Sorry, just noticed this never got posted.
thanks Ron for your post. Not surprised that Wade has decided not to redshirt Fey
Hawai‘i def. Thompson Rivers, 25-18, 24-26, 25-17, 25-20, (23-25*)
After a rare off-night in the team’s first exhibition match on Thursday, outside hitter Sinisa Zarkovic rebounded with a dominant performance on Saturday, tallying 10 kills with one error on .643 hitting in just two sets. CanadianBrook Sedore tallied nine kills on .368 hitting against his fellow countrymen while middle blocker Nick West went for seven kills in 10 swings.
Freshman Kupono Fey, a Punahou School product, ignited the loudest cheers from the crowd with eight kills on .462 hitting. Fellow freshman Hendik Mol added eight kills, five digs, and two blocks.
Brad Gunter led TRU for the second straight match with 21 kills, seven digs, and two aces while Casey Knight added 16 kills.
The Rainbow Warriors will officially open their season at the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Invitational, Jan. 9-11. Competing with UH in the three-day round robin tournament are UCLA, Penn State, and Ohio State.
Watched Kupono the last two years in high school and while I always thought he could actually have a higher ceiling than his more revered teammate Tuileta even I was surprised at how he looked on Saturday. It’s obvious he fits in. Watching him play prep basketball you could see how explosive he is athletically but he never really played with the confidence you would think he should have. But it certainly looks like the college game is the challenge he’s been preparing for all his life. Kupono looks comfortable and is exhibiting all of his skills including serve receive, setting the off plays and his play at the net. With continued hard work his career here and beyond could be very exciting. But it’s not only Fey. Mol already plays like a man, McKellar will be a great addition as a tall lefty at opp, Radnor looks like a legit MPSF middle, Jennings should take over next year and Kolby will solidify the libero position the next three years. Charlie looks to have done a nice job of recruiting and we’ll get to measure these guys even more after this weekend. But the future looks very exciting.
I like the depth for this team, from past season, there will be nights when Jace and Siki can’t not do anything right, so it’s nice to have players like Mol and Fey ready to step in.
Beach roster updated looks like indoor players joining the team are Nikki, Keani, Tayler, Ashley, Sarah, Ginger and Ali. Surprised at no Tai.
Perhaps she doesn’t want to beach. Vorster not listed either.
but the indoor team does train with the sand team during spring.
Perhaps, Jade didn’t play at all last year though and Tai was a part of one of the top 5 duos.
Well they are moving more toward sand-specific players. at the moment the roster has 19. They only need 5 teams.
So is Keani allowed to play beach since she redshirted for indoors?
Will the on-campus courts be ready by the time the Sand Season starts?
believe so
don’t think she is allowed to play sand unless she finishes her AA
I appreciate the perspective, Turfwar! From watching videos, I felt that Kupono had an edge over Tuileta. It’ll be amazing to have both of them next year.
UH/ohio state tonight, not on tv????
Yes it is ocsports ch.16
WF, it is on TV. Was there a question it wouldn’t be?
They aren’t doing the first game, tho. Pregame coverage at 630
Will it be streamed as well?
Butch yes it will be
Thanks GT, do you know if it will be through the Big West website (don’t see it listed) or through the Ocsports.tv website?
I think it would be throught ocsports because the men’s volleyball team is not in the Big West Conference they are in the MPSF
Go to hawaiiathleteics.com
there is info there
uhstreaming.oceanic.com
the only link off the MPSF site mpsports.com is for game tracker
radio at 1420-AM
espn1420am.com
the newspaper and the uh new release says tonight’s match will be on OC-16.
does anyone know if the live streaming will be free? or ppv? (the UH site doesn’t make it clear, and the link takes you to a “subscription” site on oceanic cable, with no further clarity there.)
it’s free
