Mililani O-lineman chooses UH
Mililani offensive lineman Jordan Agasiva is the first local prospect to commit to the Rainbow Warriors’ 2015 recruiting class. He was named to the Division I all-state team in 2013. Here’s what Agasiva’s pledge means:
> Vitals: Agasiva is 6-4 and 280. Mililani coach Rod York said Agasiva did not relinquish a sack in 2013. York said, when needed, Agasiva has held a block for as long as 8 seconds.
> The love: “I think he’s the best o-lineman in the state,” York said.
> Intangibles: “When you look at his highlight tapes, right away you can tell what type of player he is,” York said. “He’s aggressive. He’s physical. He finishes. He loves being an o-lineman.”

> Joint effort: Mililani actually falls in defensive coordinator Kevin Clune’s recruiting area, but this was group recruiting that also involved o-line coach Chris Naeole, linebacker coach Kurt Gouveia, quarterback coach Jordan Wynn and d-line coach Lewis Powell. York said: “He believes in coach Chow.”
> Roster impact: Agasiva will help boost a unit that will lose five seniors at the end of this coming season: Sean Shigematsu, Kody Afusia, Frank Loyd Jr., Dave Lefotu and David Griffin. Afusia and Lefotu have been with the No. 1 unit this spring. Tavita Eli, who signed in February, joins the Warriors in June. Gus Lavaka joins in January after completing a church mission.

Ulu-Perry really admires Naeole, so there’s a chance there.
Thanks for the great news ST. As a huge fan of local prep sports Jordan is probably the number one guy on my local prep list of top prospects. He’s the first guy to remind me of a young Jessie Sapolu who I still remember seeing in his first Rainbow practice on his first snap trying to block two defensive players at the same time. I remember seeing Tomey stopping the play right there and laughing because as raw as it was technique wise he knew he the makings of something special. Jordan has similar qualities as he is tall, rangy, quick and powerful and a pure offensive line guy. Cannot wait to see him in a Rainbow Warrior uniform. He may end up being one of the most important guys in this year’s recruiting class. Many schools will continue to recruit him so the staffs job may just be starting. You made this fan very happy Jordan!

BTW, ever figure out who that tall Leilehua kid is……the one that looks like a taller but thinner version of Luke Ingram? Built like a TE prospect……around the same height as Canton Kaumatule……but think that they both consciously avoided standing near each other at UH’s Junior Day.

Good job by the coaches. Now we need to get Ulu-Perry and Uluvale and we’ll really have an offensive line that can compete with anyone. Canton on defense, wouldn’t that be something if we can keep all these guys home? Hawaii pride! That would bring more fans to the stadium. Serve some crab and lobster for dinner too that would help.
Props to Mr. Agasive chosing to play for the home team. Jordan has (has Mel Kipper would say) a “huge upside” as an offensive lineman. No doubt that the Pac-12 schools will be after him, and that UH will have to continue to work hard. Coach Naeole is a big plus.
I remember Jesse Sapolu as a true freshman, also so duty on the D-Line for UH in 79. You knew he was special. Joe Onosai was in the same category in 83.

36. Hard to tell with uluvale… Saw a couple of games at tackle… He struggled big time… Padello destroyed him… Saw him at guard versus St. Louis and he looked a little better. Not sure if he’s athletic enough to pull though… Definitely strong… Foot work and athleticism to me needs improvement… Anxious to see how he looks his senior year though.

They’ll be in full pads, so there should be scrimmage-like drills in the final four periods of practice.

I remember when UH offered Kimo Makaula from Punahou and he committed to UH. Along came UW with an offer, and Makaula decommitted and signed with them. I believe that Makaula didn’t see much action and transferred to Idaho State after a year or two. Copper Pelluer (LB), was another UH commit from the Seattle area. Same thing happened with UW making an offer. Pelluer played for a couple of years as a backup, but had to give up football due to injuries.
Jeez was Uluave the tackle who kept getting beat by Padilla in the first game against Mililani?

61. Yes… And he struggled after too. He was moved to guard which is suited better for him. Even then, you have to be really athletic to get to the 2nd level as a guard at the D1 level. He’s definitely big and strong. Just not sure he’s athletic enough to be a starting D1 O lineman.
JMHO that Uluave better suited to play OG instead of OT anyhow……since more opportunity to maul Dlinemen…..

Great news Jordan! My cuz played for Mililani last year. Great to see the pipeline to UH. We’re going to play some big teams coming up. Let’s show them what Hawaii can do. We need players like you. Going to UH is awesome. You can live away from Hawaii in your life like I am now, but this moment to represent with Hawaii on your jersey is the sweetest memory.

Coolen doesn’t have the power pitcher. If you can’t have that you’ll just be an average team, like this year. His priority for next year is to sign a pitcher who is dominating. Maybe look to Australia. The hitting and fielding has fallen off too. Coolen himself said that the team is playing not too lose instead of trying to play to win. Obviously, the confidence is very low now.
The baseball team is at the bottom. The trends are not good going forward. Not much ours fans can crow about the last 3 weeks.

Ruiz is a solid 5-7 catcher/third baseman who from Chaparral High School in Temecula, Calif. At Chaparral, she earned honorable mention league honors in 2011 and was named CIF “Athlete of Character” award winner as a freshman. In the classroom, she has earned league academic honors as well as the Principal’s Honor Award for three years. “Lorena is a gap hitter with power who has speed on the bases and a good arm,” says Coolen.
Cudicio is a 5-10 pitcher out of Brigidine College, St. Ives. She is a member of the U19 Australian National Team and she helped lead the 2013 New South Wales state team the Australian National Championship. “She is a right-handed, down-ball pitcher who uses her off-speed pitches well,” says Coolen. “Mim is still young and will get stronger. She has all the pitches to be successful at the DI level.” Cudicio is the latest in Coolen’s Aussie pitcher pipeline which includes former UH standouts, Brooke Wilkins, Kelly Gentle, Felicity Witt, Paula Blanning, Justine Smethurst, and Kaia Parnaby.
Lack is a versatile 5-9 utility player who can player catcher, third base, or outfield. In 2013, she hit .575 overall. Lack was the 2013 Australian U19 Most Valuable Player and in 2012 was the national U19 batting champion with a .565 average at the plate. Recently, she was named to the Australian national team along with former UH alumnae Kaia Parnaby, Clare Warwick and Stacey Porter. She helped her state teams capture the Australian age championships from 2009-13. Lack also was the U17 batting champ in 2011 with a .510 batting average and was the Australian Schoolgirls Most Valuable Player in 2012. The 2012 graduate of Barker College (High School) was awarded back-to-back “Elite Sportswoman of the Year” titles in 2011 and ’12. At the U19 World Championships in Toronto this past summer, she led Team Australia with a .480 average and was third amongst all batters in the tournament. A talented overall athlete, Lack has also been a state representative for NSW or a finalist in cross country, futsal, Irish dancing, netball, soccer, swimming and softball.
“Rachel reminds my of Kate Judd because she hits with a lot of power and great mechanics with quick hands and can generate a lot of pop,” says Coolen. “She is unassuming, but will step to the plate and take it deep.”
Hitchcock is a 5-11 pitcher from Westminster, Calif. who is currently a senior at Ocean View High School in Huntington Beach. She has been a first-team all-league player the past three seasons with the Seahawks. Last season, she went 14-6 with a 0.95 ERA in 21 appearances. She tossed five shutouts with 133 strike outs to just 31 walks in 132.2 innings pitched. Hitchcock also hit .411 as a junior (30-for-85) with 17 runs scored and 21 RBI on the season. As a junior, she earned her second Goldenwest League Pitcher of the Year honor while also earning first-team all-CIF Division 4 honors. She has also done well in the classroom, earning scholar-athlete awards for the past two seasons.
“Brittany is a strong down-ball pitcher with good off-speed pitches.” says Coolen. “She will be expected to step right into the rotation and will only get stronger in college.”
