Wake-up call

The volleyball Rainbow Warriors were awakened today to the sound of: GET READY!

Yep, to start the final day of training camp at Joint Base Pearl Harbor/Hickam, the Warriors were involuntary participants in a morning exercises.

It was part team bonding, part follow-directions drills.

The Warriors marched, in formation (some wore slippers), and then competed in a precision-drill contest. Brook Sedore, a Canadian, was the winner.

GOOD IDEA FOR WAHINE VB COACH TO GO THE EXTENDED SLOW ROUTE TO RETIREMENT; GIVES POTENTIAL RECRUITS A CHANCE TO RECONSIDER GOING ELSEWHERE WHEN THEY REALIZE HOW OTHERS B4 THEM LOST OUT WHEN THEY DECIDED NOT TO COME TO HAWAII TO PLAY FOR DAVE SHOJI IN THE PAST.

P.S. BLOGGING HERE BCOZ I THINK I BEEN CONSIDERED A BLOG TERRORIST BY VB BLOGS.

Any word on the UH coaching vacancies?

  28. jm2375 December 30, 2013 1:45 pm

#22 – right now, there’s the “Go Green, Save Green” promotion through Wednesday. Any 6 games (out of 17) for $60. Every game will feature a high level of competition. MSPF men’s vb is arguably the toughest conference in ANY sport.

  29. Chee Hoo December 30, 2013 1:59 pm

#9. Called for launching and helmet to helmet contact against the WR. Replays show that Ryder actually led with his shoulder. Refs really blew that call according to the announcers and ESPN studio analyst Kirk Herbstreet.

  30. Old School Dave December 30, 2013 2:07 pm

Interesting contrasts in the Alamo Bowl: Texas with their conservative orange uniforms and white helmets vs Oregon with their creative unis and helmets. Like it or not, recruits are influenced by things like that.

  31. A-joe December 30, 2013 2:10 pm

Eh, pretty cool. Everytime Mariota has a big run the band plays Hawaii 5-0. =)

Quite a black Monday for the NFL…

Schiano, Schwartz, Shanahan, chudzinski, and Frazier

    Possibly more to come

  34. Turfwar December 30, 2013 4:21 pm

That means there’s a lot of very accomplished football coaches looking for a job.

  35. ai-eee-soos December 30, 2013 4:24 pm

Schiano: Penn State was interested in him.

Schiano has lost his “bargaining power”, now that he lost his job.

detroit lions…where coaches go to become irrelevant. since 1965, a span of 15 head coaches, none of them have been able to get another head coaching job in the nfl. the last former lions coach to coach another team was george wilson. he was the 1st coach of the expansion miami dolphins.

    will schwartz break the streak?

Wow the interest in this blog is really declining. Is this due to the lack of interest in general regarding the fb program or just a sluggish off season?

  44. Shoko December 30, 2013 7:28 pm

Just heard that former Fresno State head coach, Pat Hill, has been fired by the Atlanta Falcons.

  45. Shoko December 30, 2013 7:29 pm

I’m thinking Taylor Graham will be the starting QB next season.

  46. Shoko December 30, 2013 7:30 pm

With Ikaika Woolsey in special situations.

  47. Shoko December 30, 2013 7:31 pm

    Re: Blog interest
The views are high, but, alas, some of the content isn’t drawing interest.
My stuff, of course, is wonderful β€” heh, heh β€” but people turn off people who say the same thing over and over.
It’s all about entertainment. We have some wonderfully witty folks β€” DPK, A-Joe, (Jesse) James, Koakane, etc., etc. β€” and so if you want to be read, be entertaining.
I agree with “blah, blah, blah.” If you say the same thing over and over, you tend to get tuned out. I know I don’t read some of that.
    It’s up to you.

  57. Stephen Tsai December 30, 2013 9:25 pm

And, yep, blog gets turned off tomorrow so I can focus on fireworks, so say your “well wishes” now.

    Happy Birthday, Kevin!

    Happy birthday to Salevaa Atisanoe.

Going to have to catch the Basketbows when they hit the southern Cali region.

  60. Stephen Tsai December 30, 2013 9:36 pm

One other thing to consider for the new year:
We do have a lot of female readers, but very few female posters. Why? The mood is really hostile and unfriendly. It’s just a few, but they make it really uncomfortable for the majority. So, you know, I’m not going to be your parent here, but adhering to appropriate social behavior will go a long way, not just here, but in all settings.

  61. Stephen Tsai December 30, 2013 9:36 pm

Still here reading da blog! Great seeing most of gang post today!

Hope everyone has a terrific and safe New Year “making memories”, like Bulla says!

Okay, so just getting misty eyed reading and want to say thanks for the memories this year!

Special thanks to UHfan808, for all she does to promote the blog with the daily link on social media–it really makes coming into this room convenient!

Special thanks to Pomai, Koakane, James, Mr & Mrs SailorBlue et all for promoting the Tsaiko tailgate events again this year! Special thanks to UHfan808 and Mr & Mrs D1 for coordinating the Tsaiko TV gates for Away Games!

Thank you to the many Tsaiko and Tsaikettes I continually meet face to face (specially during FB season) as a result of our love for UH Sports and this blog!

Finally, thank you ST for always providing solid reporting coupled with wit and wisdom in season and out of season! You are THE reason for the enduring and endearing success of this blog!

Thanks for all the mana’o and wit this year, but most of all making me feel welcome on the board!!!

  85. jeezy33 December 31, 2013 6:46 am

I know for a fact that when ST was talking about how some people bring the vibe of this blog down by repeating themselves over and over and being hostile, he wasn’t talking about me. Because I know for a fact that EVERYONE wants to hear what I say… over and over.

I wanted everyone here to hear the good news first: I have applied for a coaching position for UH football. Both me and jonj. I can’t speak for him, but I do feel that my insights into the team and the sport of football itself can singlehandedly right the sinking chow ship.

Mahalo, and happy new years, everyone.

  98. A-House December 31, 2013 7:21 am

  99. Blah blah blah December 31, 2013 7:37 am

Enjoy the waning day of the old year and get ready to welcome in the new year.

    Happy New 2014 Year everyone!!!

    Whoo-hoo!!!

  100. graham December 31, 2013 7:38 am

Akina wont make anywhere near that anywhere else. And I doubt any other school would offer him a DC position. Did anyone watch Texas’s defense in the beginning of the season? Manny Diaz still doesnt have a job. I wouldnt mind Akina as DC but dont think it is going to be him. My guess is that it is someone that no one has ever heard of who is willing to do it for cheap. If you think about it, it is not a great job. One there is a lack of talent. Two Chow will be fired if they miss going to a bowl again. And three it doesnt pay well!

  101. wafan December 31, 2013 7:40 am

Good morning last day of 2013 Tsai-kettes and Tsai-kos!

  102. wafan December 31, 2013 7:41 am

Wishing everyone a super new year . . . gotta be better for some of us and for others it is going to be incredible!

  103. UH4eva December 31, 2013 7:55 am

    #65…So did Akina apply???

  104. boolakanaka December 31, 2013 8:01 am

101..Not sure that there is any lack of interest in Duane. I know for fact, Baylor, via Brian Norwood, have spoken to him, and as well, serious feelers from Texas A&M, and OKL, have been solicited.

While he may not be in the upper margin of talent in the DC category, he is nationally recognized as one the premier DB coaches, especially as applied to man-on techniques and schemes. He would still attract market price between, 300-400K for the programs mentioned, and it would still be a mid-range salary, for a top 25 BCS program.

  105. Loa December 31, 2013 8:05 am

Good morning, last one of ’13. Happy new year to all.

Party hard, party safe. If you had too much to drink, AAA is offering free tows home.
Tipsy Tow, 1-800-222-4357 They will take you & your car home. No be one statistic.

Congrads to the MBB. Really enjoy watching them play. I love Sham-wow! What a difference one player makes. I find it interesting that at 6′ tall, nobody can really post him up. He plays much bigger than his stature. Hope the new year brings Fotu some added aggressiveness. He has the potential to a great one.

Also, hoping for continued success on the recruiting front. Please get us a JC QB that’s ready to play & fend off the poachers from the PNW.

    Again, Happy New Year!
