Aloha all…and damn that looks sooo cold. Its not so much the snow, but the wind chill as the game develops. I remembering playing a game in Washington, and it was not nearly as cold, but wet, probably high 30s, and it was so painful to hit, especially if you were just playing on special teams. Good luck boys, stay warm and hit those stationary bikes on the sidelines.

Fei Jai. Chow had an incentive clause in his contract that he’d make a certain % of any increases in ticket sales. Too bad UH didn’t consult with the Chinatown gamblers and insist there be a penalty clause that Chow pay the same % on any decrease in ticket sales.

At any big time school that has a coach with a record like Chow, he would be history. At UH it goes to show we are not big time. We all know that money talks and BS walks. Is that why we have so much BS? We need to come to grips that we are a small fish in a pond with many larger fish. We are doing our best with the resources that we have.
UH blew it at the end of 2007. Got blinded at being at the Sugar Bowl partying and having a hangover that made our leaders go down the path we are in now due to their warped minds.
Only fix is to have $30 million come in every year and a CEO who can run the ship that has a formula for long term success who can do the job and not have interference from the so called leaders who likes to micromanage.

20…Coco, back in the day, the boys and I, use to always joke about one of us having Ronnie as our “uncle”. Well, one night crusing the many side joints of Keeaumoku, and I am not sure where were at, I recall they had late night music, live band, it was a larger place and earlier in the evening, I think they had strippers, but then everyone had dancers back then, and it shut down at 400am
Anywho, we were making a bunch of noise, drinking, check this out; millers with ice and crown neats…thinking we were big shots, and who do we see, at the end of the bar—dats right—Ronnie!!!! Nearly kukai my pants right there, seriously, I had the cold sweats. One of my boys, seeking the protocol you need in this type of situation, apologized for us making all this noise, and offered to buy him a drink. To our surprise he accepted, and we stayed making Waianae small-talk, we found out he use to go to this chicken-fight place, in Waianae Valley, that some of my ohana work at back in the day. (also got me to thinking, as my ohana out there were pig farmers, and a little shady, what else they feeding the pua’a??!)
Long story short, we went to settle up, for all of our drinks, four guys, and about 4-5 rounds, plus 2 rounds for Ronnie, bartender does not even look up, and says ” he gottem, you better mahalo da man”–we did, like good little boys do and ran all the way home.

Again, our audience is so regional targeted, and I would have to really drill down on what our margins and contracts look like, but not sure we could make a similar argument relative to our market. It is curious that the single biggest expenditure for their program is salaries…..I cause you get what you pay for can be axiomatic for college football.

allow my fantasy, average 40-43K fans per game at the Rust Bucket. Receive a portion of the parking revenues, concession revenues etc.. Secure major sponsors for each game. Allow them to “set” the program for that game. Execute a major program for our military peeps. Student section, first few rows behind home team, between the 20’s.
In a few yeas, the “senior” season ticket holders will be diminishing. Got to get to the younger season ticket holders.
Parking fees for early t-gaters?…small increase?..after all they using the facilities for what?…about 9 hours?…mho

Here’s what i’m thinking of doing next year: withhold my donation to Na Koa until after the 6th game of the season. If we’re at least 3 & 6, i’ll double it. If not, then nada. I’ll still purchase season tickets (only 3 next year as some of my crew have lost interest in this team.) Coach Chow needs to earn it already.
What do you folks think?
If I recall correctly, Curt Gowdy park is in the middle of the Freeway…far from being a park, but rather, a monument. Used to work/live four summers in Wyoming and all I can tell you is there isn’t much of anything except sage brush around Laramie. They used to have a train that took boosters up from Cheyenne to Laramie for the game…
The Warrior “get chance”, so I hope they don’t blow it.
JF…I’m gonna have a hard time justifying my two season tickets I’ve had since the 70’s next year. As it is, my wife and kids don’t want to go to the games because of Chow, so I may not be able to justify the expense…Pretty sad…
My old section only has two couples left from the glory days and they both said they’re facing the same decision and might not return.

Bowwar- we used to have a group of 20+ season ticket holders going to the games. We’re at 11 now, and dropping to only 8 next season…
I think we’ll be lucky to win 3 games total next season based on what I’m seeing now…Not trying to Bash, but being realistic.
The current admin can’t keep begging everyone for money while the coaching during the games is so piss poor. Like I said, make Coach Chow earn it. Make us happy about spending our hard earned money.

JF…Our section used to be full of boosters (Blue Section, Makai side), now there are soooo many pukas, they have to fill it with visiting fans. I still recall the days when “mama Noga” used to cheer for her boys from our section…those were the days.

My offer for next year stands. Double or nothing on my donation to Na Koa by going at least 3 & 3 after the first 6 games. If they get to a bowl game next year? Hmmm… something special for sure!
#25. NSF. Your 2nd point really hits home with me. I’m the 2nd to the last of the Mohicans from my bunch which at one time held 30+ season tickets. One by one, family by family people have given up their tickets. The sad part is most of the people buying the seats that were relinquished are not new season ticket holders but present holders who were upgrading their seats.
I’m 63 and my seatmate is several years older. Don’t know how much longer we can keep this up. The temptation to give up our seats grows stronger every time we hear about the great time our friends are having. Pot lucking and watching the games in the comfort of someone’s home.
Defense got to be smart and tough…no penalties! Offense, too. Special teams, too.

I think he at least gets one more year. The risk of not knowing if the next coach will even be successful and having to buy out Chow’s contract is too much. Not to mention the hit it could have on recruiting. Although I pretty much think next year is bowl game or bust.

anyhoo, it seems like normal progression. If new peeps around you are upgrading, it tells me you’ve got some pretty good seats. Hang on to it.
We could stay 0 fer forever but me thinks it’ll be something different next year. Growing pains ain’t always with out…well, pains. We all thought Chow was going to turn things around instantly and we’d be “chasing championships” this year. Many wise owls out there knew it was not to be. Evidence by where we were picked to finish by the wise owls in the MWC.
Looking forward, it seems to be much brighter. Got lots of great kids in the program and looks like a lot more great ones coming in. Me, I like the fact that the kids aren’t quitters like some fans. If we want them to represent, then we need to stand by them. No more “spoiled child” dey no win so give me my money back. If some kids decided to quit because of all the negativity then….”you don’t know what you got till it’s gone”..really will be reality.
You don’t find employment in college or pro football for 30+ years if you don’t know what you’re doing. It might take more time to mold it to what Chow envision it to be.
You don’t have to love the coach but try loving the program and the kids who commit to be Warriors. Some former Warriors say, “Warrior for Life”.

Bowwar… If the QB position doesn’t drastically improve… 3 or 4 wins is likely. The roster is getting better, plus I can easily see a few MWC teams taking another step down next year, so I think UH will turn some of this years close losses to wins in 2014. UH will also have a bunch of 3 year starters, which always bodes well for any team, regardless of talent.
Next years non-conference schedule is a little easier than this year. Washington is stuck at a 6 or 7 win team every year and Colorado will still be in rebuilding mode. Northern Iowa should be a win, but Oregon St looks like they could be scary good next year.
When was the last time a Hawaii team won in real cold weather, very high altitude, much less on the road. Sorry! Wyoming 31, Hawaii 7.
67… Being originally from a snowy winter state… Hitting in freezing weather is painful. The first hit feels like somebody whacks your bare skin with a huge rice paddle.
At least the weather won’t be nearly as cold as the UNLV v Air Force game yesterday. It was -11 to -15 degree windchill during the game I think it’s forecasted to be sunny tomorrow. Had to laugh when the ESPN camera zoomed in at the ice cream vendor at Air Forces stadium. Definitely not selling much ice cream yesterday,
