Hartong final POW for Big West
From the Big West
Emily Hartong’s stellar play helped Hawai‘i earn a share of the conference title and garner the senior her fourth Big West Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week award this season.
Hartong also collected her eighth career weekly honor, tying her for fourth all-time in Big West history.
The 6-2 outside hitter dominated in a pair of road sweeps over UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton. The victories helped create a three-way tie for first place in the Big West at 13-3 between three NCAA Tournament-bound squads – UH, Cal State Northridge and UC Santa Barbara.
Hartong averaged 6.00 kills, 2.33 digs and 0.50 blocks per set while swinging at a .421 clip in the two wins. She had 36 kills in 76 swings with just four errors.
The Rainbow Wahine utilized a match-high 20 kills from Hartong in a 25-20, 25-15, 25-18 victory against the Highlanders. It represented the 11th time this season that Hartong racked up 20 or more kills in a match.
Hartong led all players with 16 kills in UH’s 25-19, 25-18, 27-25 triumph over the Titans in Saturday’s regular season finale. She added 11 scoops to record her 13th double-double of the season.
Others nominated: Natalie Allen (Cal State Northridge); Delainey Aigner-Swesey (Long Beach State); Ali Spindt (UC Santa Barbara)
Congratulations Em, keep the high level of play into the post!
Emily is a rock and is such a Prolific Player… go all the way Na Wahine!!!
it’s only fitting the final big west POW goes to hartong … 🙂
wonderful…. now back to the gym!!!
good luck to the girls this weekend.
glad they’re back to playing the game of volleyball we were so accustomed to watching them play during the first few weeks of the season.
one game at a time 🙂
Congratulations, Emily. Well earned, and well deserved!
Ho, so well-deserved!
All that’s needed now is for Emily to get recognized for being a role model to her teammates. Let’s rally and show the Senior Class Award selection committee just what we think of our Emily. Vote! http://www.seniorclassaward.com/vote/volleyball_2013/. Just a few more days left.
Congratulations Em.
Emily was a diamond in the rough for Wahine. Can hardly remember her first year, then she and Jane took us on a ride and then she carried team on her slender shoulders this year. She will keep swinging until we win or her arm falls off, but she would never give up. Her example for the younger players this year will go a long way and I hope the team goes a long way in this year’s tournament, too. We will need a TEAM effort and I’m sure Emily and the other seniors know there is no “I” in T-E-A-M which is what it will take to get through this weekend and LA regional nobody’s reading your bio now everyone is looking at your video breakdown and studying your tendencies so mix it up and get the jump on them from the get go. Respect your opponents, you know they have heard the Wahine stories and will take their shot at making their stories here at SSC. This isn’t the BW it’s the SHOW. Go Wahine!
Where can I find Wahine stats like total kills and hitting percentage YTD, etc. ?
Found rhe stats I was looking for.
Surprised no one picked up on this yet. Big West awards were announced today.
POY – Emily
Frosh of year – Spindt from UCSB
Co-COY – UCSB coach and Jeff Stork from CSUN (who I still get star struck when I see in person as I was a HUGE 88 mens vball team fan and would not mind being the next UH coach)
Hawaii players on First Team
Emily
Mita
Longo
Nikki Talor (who also made all frosh team)
Honorable Mention were our two middles, Kalei and Jade.
Only starter not on team is Tai….which is pretty good considering we did not go undefeated in conference.

11. The stats as in from the BW site? UH stats still show the last update as Nov 1, Irvine match. BW adds the new totals as soon as the matches ends, very efficient doing all the matches. Unlike UH super slow only needing to update UH stats. What’s up UH?
12. haleiwacrossfitter. Scroll down 3 topics, Cindy posted it this morning.
Wow, just saw that. I’m really behind on the blog today. Thought it was weird that it wouldn’t be mentioned. Thanks!
15. there was a lot going on today. A lot of new threads.
you could have also gone to Staradvertiser.com where it was on breaking news
13. not sure what you are looking at. UH stax are updated through this past Saturday’s match.

17. CL. UHAthletics main page women volleyball, with all the updates, last article hosting. Clicked on the statistics, shows Irvine Nov 1 as last entry.
19. sorry don’t know why your are getting that because every time I go to the stax page, it is updated.
did you click on the link I had in NO. 17
Cindy, strange, I click on yours and it’s updated. I think it may be the Hawaii Athletics site that I saved, but the front page on women’s volleyball home looks the same with the last article posted, Hawaii Readies for Idaho St. in NCAA opening round. Clicked on the same line wahine volleyball home statistics and I get Nov 1 last entry. Deleted that and saved what you have posted now. Thanks.
HC, your ‘saved ‘ site may be the problem.
i don’t know. I’m not a techie. glad you got the new stax.
Stat person needs to know that Kyra Goodman is redshirting.
And Passi RS/Jr.
Stat person also missed that Kaela Goodman played in the Fullerton game and got 1 block.
UCSB wvb site headline says what we expect from their humble attitude, Welch is the coach of the year. I thought she shared the honor with Jeff Stork.
