Graham, Matagiese to promote UH
Head coach Norm Chow confirmed that quarterback Taylor Graham and defensive tackle Siasau “Saui” Matagiese will represent the Rainbow Warriors at next month’s Mountain West Conference media preview in Las Vegas.
Graham’s selection was not surprising even though he has yet to start an NCAA game. Graham was at Ohio State for three semesters before transferring to UH in January 2012. He redshirted in 2012, but exited this past spring training as the No. 1 quarterback.
Graham will be a fourth-year junior this season. Matagiese will be a senior.
The head coach and two players from each of the 12 MWC teams will participate in multi-media interviews at the July 22-23 preview at the Cosmopolitan Hotel.

Former UH cornerback/returner Mike Edwards made a significant step in his attempt to make the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent. Edwards has been invited to participate in cornerback Antonio Cromartie’s workouts in California this week. The Jets finished mini-camp last week. Cromartie was named to this past year’s Pro Bowl.
GOOD MORNING HAWAII!
Good selection for our representatives!
Top 5 again?! What were the chances? I agree with #1.
Good Morning Folks!
Good Morning from Paradise. Beautiful day out there today.
Great picks to represent, Coach! Best Wishes for Edwards with the Jets!
Good Morning Hawaii fans!
Happy Tuesday.
Go Warriors.
Beat SC!
Mountain Pacific Sports Federation?
Is that what they’re calling it?
Pretty sad when you get robbed on Father’s Day. Just as bad, if not worse, then getting robbed on Christmas Day.
Good Morning and Mahalo Tsaikos: Thank you for the bday wishes yesterday. Some of you may want to check your email also for pictures of my King Vulture who likes chicken meat. 🙂 sj

Good morning Tsaikos!
ST – got volleyball on your mind? 🙄 It’s football time!!
Go Mike Edwards!
Does anyone know what Edward’s draft projection was?
Thanks for the “MPSF” catch.
This is what happens when you try to write a blog item on 2-hour’s sleep.
50 YARD LINE SEATS for the Reno road game on Sept. 21; about 10 rows behind our Warrior team. $32. Hurry; seats going fast. email me at: tomkitaguchi@yahoo.com
Edwards —> Projected as a mid-round pick as high as the 3rd…
His combine numbers weren’t exactly dazzling.
Crappy to read this morning that USC may no longer be interested in returning to the islands. Lets hope Ben Jay can work some magic.
I actually was thinking of volleyball. Son-in-law’s brother might be joining as a walk-on. He’s 6-9.
ST:
walk-on for 2013-14 season?
2 weeks ago at Windward Mall theater we saw a tall local kid – mom said he was going to attend HPU – he was about 6′ 9″ tall – wonder if same kid, but changed choice to UH?
Good afternoon!
The WB is a good example of having too much grease . . . you get the runs.
Thanks for waking up early Fake Oakleys!!!
Holy molly Andy, where did we get all this spam!!!!!!!
Spam must be from the gigantic tins in Korea.
I hope Taylor Graham is practicing his interview speaking skills. He gotta stop saying “Ummmm” before every sentence. It’s worse that Colt’s “Ummmm’s” But i’ll say this Taylor if you can produce like Colt did, you can say “Ummmm” all you want.
Brad,
I have only heard Taylor on a couple interviews and he sounds quite articulate. I guess I did not notice the umm-ings.
Um, ah, you know, like, you feel me, aaaaaaand, know what I mean . . .
Went to a college graduation where the college president said um, ah, like, aaaaaaand 13 times in the first 1.5 minutes. It was funny at first. Then it got irritating because he spoke for 23 minutes . . . it never got any better. At least, though, he did not make up his own words. He needs to take a speech class.
This is an interview when he was at OSU.

Good morning Tsaikos!!!
Aiyahh, was looking to get apple bottom jeans and not shoes…. 😛 MWAHAHAHAHA
TG is an amusing guy.
This is a mostly entertaining team.
The players are fine.
It’s the coaches that can get a little windy.
Chris Ault was usually pretty good. One year, he decided to do a filibuster. He spoke about second- and third-string punters. Yikes. I wonder how his successor will be.
The blog was buried in spam. ST dug it out, now where is Hoffa?
The MWC has a good format. There are interview rooms and stages and all sorts of good things.
I suppose the MPSF would be good, too.
Bruce Almighty found Hoffa.
The long spam is easy to snip. It’s the short ones that slip past.
On the one hand, spam is bad.
On the other, it does increase the views. We don’t count comments, we count views. So all of the trackbacking and stuff boost the “popularity.”
I found jimmy . . . oh wrong one.
interesting bit reported by the Idaho paper.
According to State Board documents, BSU athletics funded 79 percent by program revenue. 57 percent for Idaho. 33 percent for Idaho State.
Rest of athletics revenue is student fee-state support-institutional support. Boise State at 10-10-1. Idaho at 16-22-5. ISU at 24-37-6.

GO SAUI! GO MIKE!!!
GO, RAINBOW WARRIORS!
Ohio State is going to be a force for sure.
Predictions are just dat – a guess as what will occur; final teams will be based on injuries, academics, crimes, upsets, etc.
or, is it an educated guess based on past records, current schedule.
yet, Phil Steele has been good on his early “guesses” – especially how well Hawaii will do.
UH get chance for Hawaii Bowl – go coaches! go Warriors! go fans! go Gov A.; go legislature; go new UH president; go Ben Jay! go Tsaikos!!!
One must wonder how much, if anything, how UH autonomy affected the minds of our esteemed legislative representatives.
They have been reluctant in spending/allotting $$ for UH be it academic or athletics – perhaps the only exception was when the late Gov Burns was in office.
The old adage of got only so many $$, so many wanting more (especially the unions), the rise and fall of tourists, etc.
Can someone explain why tax dollars are used to fund State, City, and county employee retirement funds – read in the paper about 2 weeks ago where the legislature must set aside millions to bring retirement funds up to par. Did I misread/understand the article? Will those employees contribute to my retirement fund so I can give more $$ to UH?
That’s good Graham is amusing, better to have a loose quarterback playing.
Anything that includes Alabama in the title game is more than a good guess, it is a wise one haha. Saban has turned that Red Tide into a well oiled machine. Pretty nuts when you think about what he has accomplished in so little time.
That’s the benefit of working in State and local government. Go to the ERS website and look at the benefits for State workers. ers.ehawaii.gov/
Also, State workers can also set aside their own money for retirement in the Island Savings Plan. https://islandsavings.ingplans.com
#50 That’s what a strong booster system can do for you. It’s all about the dollars one has to spend to create the product. Although Alabama and Hawaii have the one thing in common, no pro football team, it ends there. “bama folks really support the Tide; Hawaii, well when low tide (winning) people will wade out to see what the landscape looks like, when high tide (things get ugly) people run for high ground. Tide fans, they no care, it’s always “roll Tide!!”
Maybe Ben Jay wants Hawaii to be the Ohio St. Of the West!!!
Warriors will be well represented with Taylor &Saui.
Yay! for Mike Edwards!
Hiyah, gangees!
Really? Research: “Unfunded liability” and “Executive Order 10988”
basically the state stole money from the employees retirement fund. ask cayetano!!!!
dishima #55
As I understand it, every state/city/county worker contributes x% of their salary to the retirement system for their individual account. It ranges roughly from 8-12% of their salary. As part of their compensation, the state/city/county pays a certain percentage to that individual’s account.
That is why the tax dollars goes into the retirement fund. It is not unlike Social Security.
Another way of looking at it is that the worker is getting x% more than his salary but he doesn’t get that amount until retirement time.
My company hasn’t made a 401k contribution in over 3 years…
Snip, snip, snip.
Good guys 1, Alcoholic 0
Actually, it should be thwack, thwack.
Kind of hilarious seeing all 250 plus spam. What’s even funnier is imagining ST swearing as he cleans up this blog!
The spam that came after post 58 had to be auto-generated. Can’t imagine someone posting over 200 spam in two minutes time.
I don’t swear.
It’s not a biggie. I just have to go into a program, and hit “spam” one by one.
I might get carpal tunnel, but it’s not difficult.
I got to watch the “7-on-7s” today.
That ASU transfer looks pretty good at receiver. He’s a one-and-done, unless he gets a year back after missing all but three games as a freshman at Mount SAC.
Occupational hazard, I guess. Got to be annoying, nonetheless.
I think the offensive line is going to be better than expected.
The linemen appear to be in good shape. The tackles are leaner, and center Ben Clarke has added bulk. It should be interesting.
So, that receiver doesn’t have to sit out a year?
There are a few who are responsible. One we know, and he does have a problem with the bottle. That’s an illness, so I have some empathy. Well, except when I point it out at the end of every post.
Saui’s pick was unexpected. Congratulations to him. I gather from his selection that he must have really picked it up in the off-season. Looking forward to seeing him play.
Hope the O-line is improved. Last year it started there and reverberated back to the QB and receivers.
Shoko:
Nope. He can play right away. It’s the walk-on exemption. He was a walk-on at ASU, so he can transfer without sitting out if he walks on at another school. If he were to receive a scholarship, then he’d have to sit out. He doesn’t even count as an initial.
sj @ 9, thank you,for the photos! Awesome!
PurpleMaple:
I think it was really close with John Hardy-Tuliau. JHT is the unquestioned leader of the secondary. He’s also vital on special teams. JHT is smart, a leader, and a very responsible and respectful young man. He would have been a good choice.
But Saui has personality, as well as an expected large role.
Graham pointed out something interesting: He has spent more time at Manoa than at The OSU.
Ah, okay. That makes sense.
Mo808:
Can you e-mail me your address. I’ve still got your T-shirt.
ST,
From what you have seen so far, is there another college team that resembles the spread offense we will be running? Will it basically be what UTEP ran when Price was their OC?
I’m not really familiar with everything UTEP did.
But it’s going to be a wide-open offense. That was the intent last year, but there were a lot of breakdowns that led to the very conservative approach. That won’t be the case this year.
We’ll be back in business tomorrow morning. Had to do some maintenance while Scott M figures out the problems.
Apologies to Huh, Al and Momo.
I hit the “spam” button so quickly i inadvertently killed their posts.
But, yes, we’re all in agreement. Lonely Boy is indeed in need of medical attention.
