If you look at the voter ballots you can see what coaches voted and how they did and john cook since the beginning of the polls has continued to snub us. When hawaii got those first place votes john cook ranked us at 10-11 I beleive.
i’m not gonna defend cook. i have no idea what he considers when voting. but a lot of coaches — not just cook — seem to vote with some regional biases.
Brandon, I noticed that too. There was a time that he ranked Hawaii at 24. And he continues to rank his team in the top 10. I bet you if Hawaii and Nebraska play each other, Hawaii will beat them handily – imho.
2. Cook constantly votes hawaii significantly lower than all the other coaches. Most of them are always similar with like 2 spots different but he constantly votes hawaii the lowest. In one poll he had us at 24 I believe
3.exactly! I mean I don’t care if hawaii lost those matches. Hawaii is not number 24. It’s absurd to even think that they are
Hawaii at 11 in the rpi!
Nikki Taylor Big West Player of the Week. she earned it, she was amazing this weekend.
wahine looked good against UCD and Northridge. Coach Shoji has made subtle adjustments here and there. Hopefully he doesn’t fall in love again with several players that drag the team down when they play poorly and will not hesitate to yank if they blink in the regionals. Right now we are playing well enough to challenge should we host. That is all that matters–peaking on the positive side of the curve during the playoffs.
Congratulations Nikki !!! You play was outstanding and we fans are so proud of you!!!
The poll has become sort of irrelevant with the fans everything now is RPI and Pablo. AVCA asked fans on twitter which did they follow the most and RPI won hands down but they still enjoy the poll
congrats, nikki … well deserved!
@Brandon … I didn’t think John Cook’s voting was snubbing Hawai’i … he’s consistently had Hawai’i between 6 through 12-ish … which, as it turns out, is right about the where we should be …
… in the 2 weeks when Hawai’i received first place votes, there were several other coaches who voted Hawai’i as low or lower …
12. First couple weeks he was good, but after that he just kept ranking them lower and lower and lower
Which school is leading in attendance this year?
brandon — for the first 8 weeks, cook consistently voted hawaii between 7-10. it was in week 9 that he finally dropped hawaii to 24 after hawaii lost 3 of 4 matches to unranked teams (ucsb, csun and davis). he then raised hawaii up to 16, after hawaii swept csun and davis this past weekend.
i actually think that’s reasonable. it’s his opinion. losing those 3 matches in such a short span can easily justify a dramatic drop in the rankings, even if most other coaches opted not to do it.
after hawaii lost to ucsb at home, cook still had hawaii at 9. that sounds like he was giving hawaii the benefit of the doubt, at least. that, to me, doesn’t sound like someone out to disparage hawaii … imo.
Cubicle, I understand that. My main gripe is that Yes hawaii lost but they are far from a 24 ranked team. When hawaii got those first place votes I think he ranked them at 8. I may be wrong on that. That’s still pretty low. Cook is An amazing coach and has done amazing things for nebraska but I just really don’t like him
