Wynn in?
Former Utah quarterback Jordan Wynn will be named the Warriors’ graduate assistant for offense when the human resources department approves his application this week.
Wynn arrived in town yesterday. Tomorrow is the first day of UH’s spring semester.
Wynn retired as a player because of chronic shoulder problems this past September. UH coach Norm Chow was the Utes’ offensive coordinator in 2011.
* * * * *
Chow is in no rush to fill the coaching vacancy created with Tommy Lee’s retirement. Lee held the dual title of offensive coordinator and receivers coach.
Chow has had talks with several coaches who expressed interest in the position. The advertising deadline is this week, but Chow might wait until after the recruiting period is over before filling the position.

Cornerback Ronald Fields’ transfer to UH is awaiting his junior-college transcripts.

Sunday and the sun is back!
Sun is back but it’s still could as hell
Ohayooooooogozaimasu!!!!
Five!
Man. Torres better hope a GA position opens up if the NFL or CFL thing doesn’t work. Oh, well, maybe after all’s said and done, he’ll want to take an entirely new direction altogether.
Good morning Tsaikos!
Welcome Mr. Wynn. Best wishes in your studies, both on and off the field.
GO REDSKINS!! HTTR!!
TM. # 3 was supposed to be mine.
Check your spelling instead rushing to post. FYI.
TM, hell not cold : /
Top 10? Good to know Fields is coming to UH>
Chow like MAC needs to concentrate on being a HC versus running the offense…Don’t get me wrong, he should have a strong say with the offense, but he needs to manage the team a lot better to be successful.
Lets get the recruits coming in
Is it August yet??
Come on Man, Junior College, get the transcripts in. The spring semester starts tomorrow.
Should have been completed already. Unacceptable. All the best at UH, Mr. Fields. Stay strong.
Good morning everyone!
Welcome to Jordan Wynn!
heheheh…the battle of the “firsts” reminds me of the earlier blog days. Maybe I’ll post a “blast from the Past” example later today. As I recall, DPK had the first string of “firsts”.
I believe Moala and Tua’au are two others that need to get stuff done……are they close?
Crossing my fingers until we get Tigi Hill in also. We got some guys that can make an immediate impact coming in, never mind the guys we already have like Tepa. A sweep of who we want these next couple weekends can really end it with a bang. Here we got Elroy Masters coming in Feb 1st (per Jeezy)…..reading some other boards that kid sounds like another possible big get, he fits the bill of what Chow looks for in his offense, big & fast, great hands, and he has speed to stretch the field. And by his highlights, he ain’t afraid to go over the middle…..and, still in HS.
Looking for major improvement in O-line play, looking like Graham poses a better than average threat to SS at QB and Woolsey is every bit as talented. Year two is when we should see a big jump in understanding of the system. Just wanna see us get better……it was tough watching our boys take their bumps this last year. Wanna dish it out some this year…..
Top Twenny?!
Hope Fields is a Warrior soon!
Missed yesterday’s post but am glad to see Torres coming as a GA. Great coaching DNA in the Torres ‘ohana!
would be nice if Jordan Wynn was related to Steve Wynn. Then I remembered that Steve Wynn’s real last name is Weinberg.
Can you imagine if he kept his name…Weinberg and Encore
What’s the word on Dejon Allen? Anybody know? Is he in already?
Dejon Gets Here On The 20Th….
DPK,
Torres not coming in as a GA.
As they say, they’ll be here when they get here. I’m sure the coaches are on top of them, but they also has back up or contingency plans.
Saw a website yesterday and found that Texas A & M had 35 verbal commitments. If you do the math, they can only offer scholarships to 25 in one year, maximum and 85 total. So somebody will be walk ons while others will gray shirt or some will be told that it’s tough, no mo scholarship available. Might not be classey, but it’s not illegal. But some recruits will end up disappointed. I guess it’s a business.
Derek,
There was a ESPN segment on how some of the big time schools over recruit. I think part of the focus was on LSU or Florida. It seems to be common in the SEC.
Any relation to Spergon Wynn?
Good morning, gangees!
Welcome, Jordan Wynn!
Wynn will be a nice addition to the staff. He was a very intelligent QB, but couldn’t ever stay healthy. Wynn will be a valuable asset for Taylor Graham and Ikaika Woosley in helping them learn Chow’s offense.

I think an incoming UH student has a grace period of two weeks.
I think that means the person needs to be enrolled by Jan. 18 or else he’ll have to wait until the summer.
There actually are some interesting names linked to the UH job.
But, no, Lance Reynolds is not one of them.
He has not been offered the job.
The biggest problem is the salary, I imagine.
Rolo will get about $250,000 at Temple.
Aranda is going to get $500,000 at Wisconsin.
UH’s slotted pay is about $130,000.
Russell Wilson: “The separation is in the preparation.”
GOOD MORNING HAWAII!
Welcome Mr. Jordan Wynn!
If the grace period is 2 weeks then he would need to be here by the 24th if they go by 14 days which is 2 weeks if they go by 10 days then yes he’ll have to be here by the 18th….but as an athlete if he is pre registered for classes then does that give him extra time to get here?
Are their any well known people tied to the OC position?
Well known in coaching circles, I suppose.
But, no, Norv Turner isn’t applying.
By waiting until after the recruiting period, would it be presumptuous to think that the leading candidate is not well known to potential recruits?
ST, didn’t Norm Chow take lower pay so his assistants could get more pay? I really think $130K if low for an OC.
Oops if = is
Howzit, Gang!
Aloha, A-House & ‘ohana! Yes, you read correctly… after our oldest son graduates from high school here, our plans are to move back home, to help out my mom with the house, etc. They’ve been struggling a bit since my dad’s passing.
As for the weather here… well… most mornings have been hovering near freezing, but it hasn’t been cold enough to actually snow. Been raining or drizzling every day since just before Christmas. If it’s anything like last winter, we’ll burst right into spring, with caked-on pollen all over the place… with everyone coughing and sneezing into summer.
Tired of this place already. And the kids would rather be back in Michigan. At least with the snow, they could go out to play every day. With this kind of rain, going outside will just lead to getting sick. Really looking forward to being back home, after all these years away (since ’96).
Found this on the UH web …
Other Spring 2013 Registration Dates
• Continued Registration for All Incoming and Continuing Students (no late fee): January 3 to 6

• UH Employee (Faculty and Staff) Registration: January 7 to 16 at 4:00 pm (HST)
• UH Employee Eligible Spouse/Domestic Partner Registration: January 7 to 16 at 4:00 pm (HST)
#22,
Would think that WR/KR Jeremy Tabuyo (Saint Louis) better take pause and re-think his early verbal commitment to Texas A&M…..and confirm whether Texas A&M is still committed to him…..with 9 WR verbal commits already.
Hmmm…..
OC position applications due by Jan. 14th.
http://www.pers.hawaii.edu/wuh/Jobs/NAdvert/15930/1843984/1/postdate/desc
I think that is one of the so much important information for me. And i’m satisfied studying your article. But should commentary on some normal issues, The web site style is great, the articles is in reality great : D. Just right process, cheers
Re:#41 I was thinking the same thing and with one month before signing day a lot could change especially with the year A&M had if they happen to get a unexpected commitment from a top WR then I would look for Tabuyo’s offer to become a gray shirt offer
Re: #44,
Most (if not all) of the WR verbal commits to Texas A&M are rated higher than Tabuyo…..so gotta agree that a greyshirt offer is probably in play here by the Aggies…..which means that any NLI that is signed by Tabuyo with the Aggies this year is non-binding and doesn’t have to be honored by Texas A&M for 2015…..and vice versa….like what happened at UH last January with OLB Tyler Gray (who ended up with Boise State) and even more recently with DE/OLB Quenton Brown (who chose to attend North Texas).
Any update on Tigi?
Nurd Turner, are you serious? WTH
#45,
Meant 2014…..not 2015.
The important thing to remember is that no matter what happens with recruiting, GA’s, MWC comings and goings…we’re playing in VEGAS this year! Reno too! My guess is 14 Sep for Vegas and 2 Nov for Reno.
It would be better for the gambling types if the road trips to Las Vegas and Reno were in alternating years.
#16,
Tua’au supposedly closer than Hill and/or Moala.
While getting commits from these WRs (Haynes, Howard, Kemp, Polk) and DTs (Tulimasealii, Ekuale) is great, JMHO that the OL recruiting has been somewhat disappointing thus far.
OL Coach & Recruiting Coordinator talked about bringing in 3-to-4 new OL overall (including 2 JC OTs), still only 2 OL (Griffin & Wa’a) thus far.
http://www.nakoa.org/2012/10/10112-na-koa-lunch-report/
http://www.nakoa.org/2012/11/11512-lunch-report/
With initial JC OT target Seydel now signed with Wazzu, looks like Warriors counting on swaying JC OT Braxton Isaac away from San Diego State. With Koehler apparently all set to sign elsewhere, looks like the Warriors will need a great January in order to meet the initial goal set for OL recruiting.
I thought UH settled this whole pay thing with assistants after 2008 and with Chow’s low salary.
Guess we’z po!
This is the full list of UH coaching salary ranges as of 2008.

Coordinators range : $116,000-$203,000

Is ousted BYU OC Brandon Doman, one of those “interesting name” candidates to Tommy Lee?

Oops! Should have said:
Is ousted BYU OC Brandon Doman one of those “interesting name” candidates to REPLACE Tommy Lee?
The guy who recruited Manti Te’o, could be the next Reno HC …
In the fall of 2008, then-Notre Dame assistant coach Brian Polian boarded a plane in South Bend, Ind., every week and headed for the Hawaiian islands.
This was no vacation. Polian was on the hunt for one of the nation’s top recruits, linebacker Manti Te’o. Fourteen times Polian made the 8,640-mile roundtrip journey – the equivalent of a one-way ticket from Reno to India – to be in the stands for Te’o’s game.
The persistence paid off as Te’o committed to Notre Dame over his childhood favorite USC Trojans. Now a senior, Te’o was the Heisman Trophy runner-up and has led the Fightin’ Irish to today’s BCS title game.
Polian, the presumed successor to Chris Ault as Nevada’s head coach barring a hitch in negotiations, won Te’o over thanks to his passion and determination, calling cards during his career as an assistant.
#59,
Maybe its Gary Crowton lol
Nytal.
Night night Wafan!
What a fun filled family day! Finally got a moment to read. Welcome to Jordan Wynn!
Back to work tomorrow 🙁
Good luck to Teo and the Irish! i’ll be routing for you! Probably won’t get to see the game till half time!
As we look at the “Top 20” claims of today, here’s a snapshot of “Firsts” in April 2007… 🙂
In the first year (2006-2007) of The Warrior Beat blog, the blog is slowly picking up momentum again as more of the old crew return to action in mid-April. Some still stare warily at the full moon tethered to the blogship mast. 😉
Here’s a look at the “firsts” since April 9. Note there were multiple blog entries by ST on some days. Note the date/time stamps…

BTW, blog name Fulavit was one of las vegas/rasu begasu’s lesser known aliases, along with the infamous Maryanne. 🙂
I have been browsing on-line greater than 3 hours these days, yet I by no means discovered any fascinating article like yours. It’s pretty value sufficient for me. Personally, if all website owners and bloggers made good content material as you did, the internet will likely be much more helpful than ever before.
50. I think it’s because the coaches are pretty high on the younger guys like Dew, Clark, Kaloamatangi. Add Lavaka who should be here in 2014 and Wa’a next year to the mix. Would be nice to land another solid high school O linemen. I am sure Hawaii has a couple targets we don’t know about. Emerald committed to Houston so we must have other names we are looking at.
I dont know if the offer is still out there but I know Hawaii was recruiting Spencer Ueli – Fa’atoalia out of La Mirada.
@ 66 & 67: SteveM, that was interesting (though hard to read 66) thanks for posting blast from the past!
SteveM #66, I think it could be a Punchbowl Kid with no disrespect to a Grease, because the D is silent like Django.
Seahawks!!!
Wow, marvelous blog layout! How lengthy have you ever been running a blog for? you make blogging glance easy. The full look of your site is wonderful, as well as the content!
#50,
No doubt that the coaches are high on Dew, Clarke, Sai, and Koloamatangi. The OL Coach & Recruiting Coordinator each acknowledged as such when questioned about OL recruiting at their respective Na Koa luncheon speaking engagements…..but still set the OL recruiting goal of bringing in 3-to-4 new OL overall (including 2 JC OTs).
Gotta agree that it would still be nice to bring in another solid HS OL recruit to join Wa’a…..like OG Spencer Ueli-Fa’atoalia (La Mirada HS, CA.)…..now that Koehler signing elsewhere.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaKznCpwNcM
BUT looking instead like the OT target(s) are strictly from the JC ranks instead.

Goodnight everyone!
so it appears that the three fleet footed floridians will arrive friday with the candidate for the holy grail.
we could/should end up 4 4 4 on this one.
i sure hope that the creative placement planning will allow the possible 28 to 30 new warriors. believing that some of the jc transfers will technically occupy 2012 scholies.
Al???? What is we should/could end up 4 4 4 mean??
4 4 4 baby!
Al: Is the holy grail a QB or a running back? I’m assuming its a RB…
abunai…the four commits out of the four recruits that arrive this coming weekend.
thus, 4 4 4, four for four,
get it?
got it?
gooood.
(okay so the qb already committed)
holy grail candidates are qb’s…always.
I am now not sure where you’re getting your information, but great topic. I needs to spend some time learning more or figuring out more. Thank you for magnificent information I used to be in search of this information for my mission.
lovely collection of Good morning sms …Nice way to wish Good Morning to closed ones

Thanks for the look back.
Lots of fun times back then.
Good morning! Getting ready for golf.
Great Morning All!

After watching a replay of the SEC Championship, the head says, go with ‘Bama and their fantastic O-Line
But then the heart says, go widda local bruddahs and ride along widda magical ride that the Irish are on.

G’day Tsaiko village people! Errybody should be pau wid dere NY eve hangovah.

Good Monday Morning Folks!
D1, I feel the same about todays championship! Gonna be a nail bitter today! My head says Bama, but heart wants it to be ND!
Like dey said on tv,….”It’s Gonna Be A Slugfest”
Go Irish!!!
Kekoa, you must be psychic! I’ve been missing reading you, and wondering how you are! Happy New Year to you!
Woah! I’m really digging the template/theme of this site. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s very hard to get that “perfect balance” between usability and appearance. I must say you’ve done a amazing job with this. Additionally, the blog loads very fast for me on Internet explorer. Exceptional Blog!
Good morning, gang!
Go Irish! Like mo808, prob. won’t get to see first half. Hope Te’o has a great game.
Laters…
UH folk go back today, yes? Sigh. Traffic was going SO well 🙂 . Even when the pres’dent came back that one morning, traffic was great 🙂 .

Have a good one!
top of the morning ChickenGrease!
98
Haahahahah, a Grease got # 100
Good morning tommui!!!!! How you?
A Grease recalls being at one particular new years gathering — calabash, japanese-based family — and e’ryone was having a good time and all, feasting, was a few hours before midnight. 0overheard one of the kids there who a Grease — and everyone else — knew had been attending UH, sophomore, junior, whatever, say, “I still have to register.” 0then heard, well, his dad, exclaim, “YOU MEAN, YOU NEVAR GET YO’ CLASSEDS YET!?!?!?.” This, yes, over exploding fireworks outside. E’ryone got real silent and all. Heh.
Norm, offer the vacant position to Brian Te’o. It would be a very smart move on your part. I gave all the reasons in support of this position earlier. No need to keep repeating.
Is it SumTingWong who is quoted in the Elvis article today?
SteveM, you would know…
Oh, no, it’s Chop Suey Boy…
So stop repeating it. If this Te’o is related to some open-mouthed-at the post game Te’o, uh, sada NO (as a Pootie Tang would say) to this hire. There must be other greater hires than a relative of someone who seemed to not even look in the direction of UH for college football stint.
Morning folks. Let me try that again. Morning Folks!!
Interesting hire by the Wolf Pack. Never heard of the guy and its doesn’t appear he has any coordinator experience (offenseive or defensive). He doesn’t look like he knows much about the Pistol. New system in Nevada = growing pains?
If not mistaken, if TA$M has 35 verbals, they can only sign 28 at the most. SEC instituted a oversigning limit few years ago, after what happened with Houston Nutt signing over 35 players one year (see Houston Nutt Rule). Before that rule, there was no limit in the SEC that put a cap on the number of Letter of Intents. It’s been mentioned that Alabama, Ole Miss and LSU were the biggest violators of oversigning.
😎 morining from the garden island
is it national championsip game time yet
Good morning!
Watching the special on Manti this morning…they interviewed his dad and he said that they were hoping for a d-1 schollie anywhere and they were hoping for Hawaii….but once his recruiting took off Hawaii was nowhere in sight….So it kinda seems like Hawaii was Manti’s Ugly prom date until The Prom Queens came calling….I guess this is the reasoning behind why Hawaii has so much trouble keeping some local kids home…
And at the end Manti basically says he encourages local kids to leave the island and succeed….
# 110 . . . it’s a two-way street. The local talent have to want to come to Manoa. Can’t have this “oh, UH ne’er call me” as an excuse e’rytime.
