Schroeder is No. 1; Graves moves to receiver

Sean Schroeder was named the Warriors’ No. 1 quarterback today.

Schroeder met two of  coach Norm Chow’s requirements: 1) Command of the pro-set offense, and 2) Command of the huddle. Schroeder also was the most productive of the quarterbacks in scrimmage-like drills.

Schroeder, who earned a bachelor’s degree in three years at Duke, played in a similar offense with the Blue Devils. He is not on scholarship … at the moment. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

David Graves, who will be the No. 3 quarterback, worked out as a receiver today.

It does not appear that cornerback Justin “JT” Turner will fulfill all of the transfer requirements in time for the start of UH’s fall semester. As such, the Warriors no longer are counting on him to play this season.

The Warriors still are holding out hope that Ronald Fields will be cleared to play. Fields is in town while awaiting confirmation of his JC transcripts.

Even if Fields does not qualify, John Hardy-Tuliau will remain in the middle as a safety or nickelback. Hardy-Tuliau was a No. 1 cornerback in the spring but moved at the start of training camp with the addition of cornerback Tony Grimes. Mike Edwards and Grimes have been the No. 1 corners, with Ne‘Quan Phillips, Dee Maggitt, Kawika Ornellas and Marrell Jackson rotating with the second unit.

Punter Alex Dunnachie rejoins the team today.

Birthday wishes to Lacy Lee Robello, Leianne Pedro,  Elsie Anderson and Carmen Mor.

    … we’re on our way …

” … All signs point to Sean Schroeder being named the No. 1 quarterback today. … “

    Yep.

hope that Ronald Fields gets cleared …

keep working at it, Justin “JT” Turner .

Too bad bout JT, hopefully no bad injuries to the secondary

  9. WarriorNY August 6, 2012 12:39 am

JT… Keep working at it. Maybe next year We’ll see you in a UH uniform…

Grimes and Edwards is still a very good combo at CB…

  10. al August 6, 2012 1:23 am

not surprising who will be the qb.

hope he gets a scholie so he can afford to buy sunscreen.

  11. al August 6, 2012 1:26 am

if turner does not make it…it’ll be a tough road for him.

i think he’ll only have two years as it is.

fields apparently completed the work for his aa. same as milovale, however, they could be victim of the budget cuts within the california educational system. it would be a shame if these young men were denied entry because the transcripts were stuck in traffic.

time to pull from the bull pen get choke players who can do da job.

Honestly…I feel badly for Graves. He waited his turn, and now he’s left with a third string rating. In reality, his talents aren’t suited for Chow’s offense. Do you guys and gals think he can transition to another position? Or maybe even play special teams? How’s it looking? Really wish this tough guy can contribute…braddah can jam music too!

Geezus, that shows the lack of talent the Rainbows had at QB when a late transfer comes in and becomes the starting Q.B. With fingers crossed and a prayer every day, I KNOW the Rainbow Warriors will succeed in having a productive season and with a few surprises here and there starting with the upset of the decade in that first game what’s not to say we can’t return to the Sugar Bowl this season.

P.S. u folks noe im writing this from a mental facility, rite??? CHEERS!!

  16. hilousupaman August 6, 2012 3:22 am

Rather than looking at the QB situation as a lack of talent I’m hoping it shows how much Schroeder has “it”. He’s goota have something, takes a special talent to come half way around the world and take a starting job in basically one month

  17. paintslinger9 August 6, 2012 3:29 am

I thought it fairly obvious at practice saturday that Schroeder was the standout QB. He’s got ‘it’. I think he’s going to work out well.

  18. Bryson August 6, 2012 3:34 am

Dang sorry to hear about Turner not making it…I was hoping the follow up to ST’s header was that Turner was Out Here again…Oh What A Crazy Defensive backfield we could have had with Dorsey and Turner had they made it…Now the focus shifts to Grimes and the Young Guns Phillips and Jackson…What position will B.Clay be playing I thought he looked pretty good at corner in spring ball….

  19. mo808 August 6, 2012 4:18 am

Good Morning! 26 more wakeups and 4 Saturdays!

Good Job, Schroeder! We needed a leader and you’re the guy! Congratulations!

JT keep trying! Hope you make it out here eventually!

Ronald Fields, we’re hoping you can get cleared soon!

Happy Birthday to Lacy Lee Robello, Leianne Pedro and Elsie Anderson!

    Good morning Tsaikos everywhere.

    Wow.

    Quarterback. Kinda expected, Schroeder.

David Graves. Everything about him says he’s a fine fine young man and a great football player. His choice is to stay a Warrior, and contribute where he can in this system, or transfer to a place where his quarterback talent will be greatly appreciated, he can fit in and he will be grealy appreciated. Either way, I wish him the best of luck.

My focus is on the Warriors.

  21. BigHiloFan2 August 6, 2012 4:29 am

Happy Birthday Lacy Lee, Leianne and Elsie. Happy happy happy!

  22. NYUHTX August 6, 2012 4:30 am

Congrats to Schroeder. He must clearly have stood out. Hawaii has rarely ever had a successful season without more than one QB so I hope the others continue to give it all they got.

  23. BigHiloFan2 August 6, 2012 4:33 am

    Mr. Fields and Mr. Milovale,

maybe i’m all wet, but suggestion: get someone to personally go to your junior colleges, take a notary public (my mother in law does it for $50 in Riverside) and go see the school’s registrar and get the transcript notarized!

they’d move on the paper right away if they had to take a dump.

  24. letsgowarriors August 6, 2012 4:49 am

is marrell playing safety or corner? is bubba luna the current SS?

fo da good of da team. 😀

now… wat i can do to motivate whoeva gots to be motivated to shake JT into our basket?

    please o please.

    laterz…

  29. Bigislandkurt August 6, 2012 5:25 am

It sure sounds like JT’s issue is more than a simple mailing or notarization dilemma. UH and Coach Tuioti has been on his trail for a while now. I’m sure they knew exactly what they were facing….and so did JT.

    BIK

  30. protector August 6, 2012 5:31 am

Regrettable about JT; hope to see him next year. Still hoping to have Fields and Milovale in the fold. Go Warriors! This team will be ready regardless of the adversity.

  44. Stephen Tsai August 6, 2012 6:14 am

    Happy birthday Screecher.

  46. Da Punchbowl Kid August 6, 2012 6:17 am

    Good Morning Gangeez!

Schroeder gets the nod because he’s a good player, not by default. He and his talented back ups at QB have lots of work ahead. In QB Coach Chow we chrust.

We’ll miss Turner, hope he can get things straight ASAP. Same for Milovale and Fields. Noted on Saturday that Milovale looks like he’ll help our line… big buggah and very athletic looking.

  47. Da Punchbowl Kid August 6, 2012 6:18 am

    Happy Birthday Screecher!

I’ve been playing EA NCAA 13 and noticed the Hawaii helmets look like a metalic green. Any word on any uniform changes this year? I think the that helmet would look real good but I wasn’t really a fan of the pants last year.

  54. kawika49 August 6, 2012 6:27 am

#53 They should wear Malo instead; maybe beef up the distaff side attendance.

ST? So do we still have a chance in getting JT this year?

  58. lowtone123 August 6, 2012 6:43 am

I’ve heard that Alex Green is doing great at Packers camp. ACL is healed and AG is at 100%. #2 RB on depth charts. He was listed as a sleeper pick in my Fantasy Football magazine for this season.

  59. kapakahi August 6, 2012 6:43 am

    ST,

Didn’t notice Saturday, but where is Brian Clay in the mix?

  60. BigHiloFan2 August 6, 2012 6:46 am

    Fields, Milovale, Turner….

wat is the problem? if the problem is not straight forward, don’t we have a problem recognition issue? c’mon coaches. help da bruddaz out!

  61. Shoko August 6, 2012 6:54 am

    D1,

Okay, thought you were doing line updates.

Who is the more mobile QB. Schroeder or Higgins? Only reason I ask is if the pass protection is an issue, might want to have a QB who doesn’t get flustered and is a good escape artist in tight situations.

  62. DoubleB August 6, 2012 6:59 am

@61 shorter routes, more protection : ie TE and FB etc…

  63. Stephen Tsai August 6, 2012 7:00 am

Hardy-Tuliau and Poueu-Luna are top candidates to start. But Sellers is in mix. Clay is out ther, too. Lutu also gets a lot of reps.

  64. Da Greenmask August 6, 2012 7:01 am

Does anybody know what time practice starts today?

  65. Stephen Tsai August 6, 2012 7:02 am

If we’re talking most mobile, that would be Graves.

Everybody likes Graves. The coaches like Graves. It’s just that he spent 3 1/2 years training for an offense that no longer exists.

  66. Stephen Tsai August 6, 2012 7:03 am

    1:45.

  67. papajoe2 August 6, 2012 7:03 am

    Closed practice at Hickam.

  68. kapakahi August 6, 2012 7:04 am

    ST,

Mahalo for the Doe and Clay updates!

  69. al August 6, 2012 7:05 am

guys…the sign says turner is out.

    turn the page on turner.

    turn the chapter.

tony grimes will make all forget turner.

  70. al August 6, 2012 7:07 am

ronnie fields is a fax away.

  71. Stephen Tsai August 6, 2012 7:08 am

UH practices this week in Manoa, then the show moves to Hickam on Sunday.

  72. letsgowarriors August 6, 2012 7:09 am

thanks. hopefully sellers gets on the field as a NB like last season. hoping phillips and jackson will play STs as true frosh.

  73. BayAreaWarrior August 6, 2012 7:11 am

Apologies if this has already been covered, but why/what kept Demar Dorsey ineligible? I recall reading that UH would need to petition the NCAA on the issue of eligibility. Did that ever happen, or were the “reports” that he was coming all premature? Just curious…

  74. al August 6, 2012 7:13 am

letsgo…those two will get their wings in spot duty in the rotation. demarest has a keen eye for talent.

  75. papajoe2 August 6, 2012 7:13 am

What scares me is that our starting qb, although he had great high school stats, never played in a game since 2009. After only 3 practices, he’s #1. Our backup is from Utah State. 2 lowly football programs. I’m just I’m disappointed that they are our best. I trust Coach Chow and his staff. They are the ones with uku plenty years of experience and are the only evaluators that count. Hope all works out well. GEEEVVUUMM WARRIORS!!!

  76. al August 6, 2012 7:14 am

    baw…academic sustainence.

  77. al August 6, 2012 7:15 am

    is there such a word?

  78. Stephen Tsai August 6, 2012 7:15 am

I knew a person who was one class away from earning a degree.

So I made a call to somebody who knew somebody who knew somebody important who knew somebody even more important. The Mr. Really Important agreed to give the person credit for “life experience” if he would write a paper.

Turns out the person was more than a class away.

I always hear people telling me how they missed the SAT cutoff by five points or they’re one class from graduating. I’ve concluded if you don’t make it, you don’t make it.

  79. al August 6, 2012 7:17 am

it is good that we have lefties both at the two deep for qb. think about it….

  80. papajoe2 August 6, 2012 7:18 am

Sorry, on the Hickam thing. I’m getting ahead of myself. Just anxious for Sept. 1 to get here.

  81. tommui August 6, 2012 7:19 am

    GOOD MORNING HAWAII!

I guess Sean Schroeder just duked it out and won!

  82. Stephen Tsai August 6, 2012 7:19 am

    Papajoe:

Even if UH didn’t change the offense, the Warriors would have entered the year with only one quarterback with starting experience (two games).

  83. Shoko August 6, 2012 7:21 am

Ah, shorter routes means more time, TE/FB means additional protection. Good point.

I figure the learning curve is steeper for both Graves and Higgins. However, Graves or Higgins might have a higher ceiling in terms of production once they get comfortable with the new offense. We shall see…

  84. BayAreaWarrior August 6, 2012 7:21 am

Mahalo, Al! And well said, ST…

Like I mentioned, just curious more than anything. Not disappointed in what could of been or never was. Excited to see the new offense and team come Labor Day Weekend!

  85. Stephen Tsai August 6, 2012 7:24 am

Since the end of spring, UH has added Schroeder, Kapua Sai, Kiha Sai, Ryan Hall, Harold Moleni, Tony Grimes and Ne’Quan Phillips while only losing Legay. But Shigematsu is back, so it could be argued the team is stronger than it was three months ago.

  86. Stephen Tsai August 6, 2012 7:26 am

In an unrelated matter, Tim Tebow was 3 of 8 and sacked six times in 19 snaps during today’s scrimmage.

  87. BayAreaWarrior August 6, 2012 7:26 am

Interesting point on the top 2 QBs both being lefty throwers. There is an adjustment (actual or perceived?) for WRs catching passes, so there is, in theory, a genetically built-in (or mere coincidental) continuity…

  88. Stephen Tsai August 6, 2012 7:28 am

It appears Moniz had successful surgery.

  89. BayAreaWarrior August 6, 2012 7:29 am

While unrelated, I will note that Tebow is also a lefty. Not sure he’s actually a QB, though.

  90. Stephen Tsai August 6, 2012 7:29 am

It should be interesting in the spring when Graham joins the competition.

  91. al August 6, 2012 7:31 am

baw…thats what i was “thinking”. add to that, oline assignments.

  92. Stephen Tsai August 6, 2012 7:32 am

I wonder why coaches don’t try to recruit in Jamaica?

  93. al August 6, 2012 7:33 am

st…i was thinking that, too. especially if schro does well this year.

  94. RedZone August 6, 2012 7:34 am

The competition is on. It is not just about who starts but who finishes at the end of the season.

  95. al August 6, 2012 7:35 am

would be nice to have a 6’5″ 210lb “running back””

  96. Stephen Tsai August 6, 2012 7:36 am

Meanwhile . . . USC opened training camp last night.

  97. Stephen Tsai August 6, 2012 7:37 am

Meanwhile . . . Dunnachie rejoins the team today.

  98. Shoko August 6, 2012 7:39 am

Jamaica definitely produces some speedy athletes. Thats something I thought about last night when I was watching Usain Bolt. But I think the guy is only good at running in a straight line..lol

  99. gigi-hawaii August 6, 2012 7:40 am

Congrats to Schroeder! Hope he remains injury-free. USC is scary!

  100. Shoko August 6, 2012 7:41 am

Interesting that the last couple years, Chow’s starting QB’s going into the season have been injured – Prince (UCLA) and Wynn (Utah) – in the middle of the season forcing the backups to go in.

  101. Shoko August 6, 2012 7:42 am

Uh, maybe I shouldn’t have mentioned that.

  102. gigi-hawaii August 6, 2012 7:43 am

    yeah, jinks, shoko!

  103. Stephen Tsai August 6, 2012 7:43 am

Track is oval. Bolt runs the 200m, too. He can run a post route.

  104. Stephen Tsai August 6, 2012 7:50 am

Bolt needed only 41 steps to cover 100 meters.

    Runner-up required 46.

  105. al August 6, 2012 7:51 am

    should we call him…

    schro

    piano man (get it?)

    duke

    lefty

    sean jean

  106. Shoko August 6, 2012 7:51 am

But can he catch? Reminds me of that movie the Replacements where they had this speed WR that couldn’t catch the ball to save his life.

  107. Stephen Tsai August 6, 2012 7:51 am

Every time I hear the name Lolo Jones, for some reason, I keep thinking about that Don Ho song . . .

  108. papajoe2 August 6, 2012 7:51 am

Did you see the neck muscles on Yohan Blake, the silver medal winner? Looks like he could play some football. Maybe not eligible for college, but NFL? There were some good track stars in the NFL like Bob Hayes, Renaldo Nehemiah(sp?) and others. Straight line to the goal.lol

  109. Stephen Tsai August 6, 2012 7:52 am

    Renoldo Nehemiah.

    Johnny Lam Jones.

    Matt Harding.

  110. koakane August 6, 2012 7:58 am

getting closer to the opening of UH fball 2012 season so excitements builds and less we forget no matter what still support

  111. Stephen Tsai August 6, 2012 8:06 am

I just had a bean burrito.

I guess we all fuel up in different ways.

  112. Ryan_12177 August 6, 2012 8:11 am

    Stephen,

What has happened with the tightend position? Is Cofer staying there or with all of the incoming TE’s has he been switched back to DE? How has Hall looked?

  113. Stephen Tsai August 6, 2012 8:12 am

I haven’t paid too much attention to the TE spot, although I’ve been told Harold Moleni is doing very well.

  114. d1shima August 6, 2012 8:18 am

Extended versions of the rule for the “Most Popular Man in Hawaii” seems to now include the third string QB for the Hawaii football team. 🙄

    Chrust in Chow!

  115. d1shima August 6, 2012 8:18 am

    TE’s

saw a clip on the news last night of a nice “laid out” catch by Hall

  116. haka August 6, 2012 8:20 am

jamaican runners on a football rastah?

    breakfast bean burrito?

I thought that smell in the air was football?

who let the air out of the pigskin?

  117. al August 6, 2012 8:23 am

moleni is a mature freshman after having served his two year mission already.

  118. Stephen Tsai August 6, 2012 8:25 am

Moleni also is a married man.

  119. Bryson August 6, 2012 8:29 am

So besides John Ursua are there any other recruits going on their LDS mission before attending school?

  120. WarriorNY August 6, 2012 8:30 am

I always wondered why more elite Track and Field stars don’t play more sports. I think of Jeff Demps at Florida but other than that, I can’t seem to think of anyone…

  121. Old School Dave August 6, 2012 8:32 am

David Graves should keep his head up (I know it’s hard right now). There have been others in UH Football history who were recruited to play one position, but excelled at another. Players such as Kent Untermann who came to UH as a QB, but moved to TE and excelled (he was given the option to transfer, but didn’t). Blaine Gaison was another player recruited as a QB and actually played the position before moving to safety (he did play as an emergency QB in 79 vs Colorado St. and ASU leading UH to wins, if memory serves me correctly). Also QB Tim Lyons was a QB down on the depth chart in 81, then was called to action when the first and second team QBs got injured, and the third team guy quit the team. Lyons led UH to a 7-0 start and a national ranking.

  122. Stephen Tsai August 6, 2012 8:33 am

Gus Lavaka is going on a mission.

  123. Ipu Man August 6, 2012 8:35 am

Unlike the dangers in gymnastics and football, most track and field stars

can stay healthy for a loooooonnnnngggg time. I imagine that goes for

swimmers, too. Tho divers risk their necks all the time, too.

  124. (Jesse) James August 6, 2012 8:39 am

Good morning Tsaikos….Hope everyone has a great day today!!!

  125. al August 6, 2012 8:39 am

so he’s listed as 6’2″. is that legit or subject to the 2″ rule?

  126. Ipu Man August 6, 2012 8:43 am

Nice to see that most of UH players are now bigger than the coaches…

  127. Ipu Man August 6, 2012 8:44 am

Wonder if they all sit in the back of the bus if it rears up on its rear axel?

  128. Ipu Man August 6, 2012 8:49 am

Al, #105, I like your suggested nickname: “piano man”

for Schroeder. Can’t remember, but who were the fb players

in the cartoon strip? Somebody kept taking away the ball

just before the kick, I remember that….

  129. Shoko August 6, 2012 8:50 am

    WNY,

I think Bo Jackson and Herchel Walker ran track in college, if not mistaken.

  130. al August 6, 2012 8:53 am

ipu…it was lucy who keep pulling it away from the sweep of charlie brown.

  131. Mokiboy August 6, 2012 8:55 am

Sorry other quarterbacks but that’s the Way it should be the best should start.

  132. al August 6, 2012 9:01 am

herschel was the 100m champ who was recruited to georgia. the rest was history. too bad injuries shortened his career.

bo jackson was a phenomenal athlete who played mlb and nfl. injuries took its toll on him too.

  133. al August 6, 2012 9:03 am

…and of course as previously mentioned, bob hayes was the pioneer going from olympic hero to the dallas cowboys.

  134. al August 6, 2012 9:04 am

    forgot about jesse owens.

  135. Old School Dave August 6, 2012 9:05 am

Al: I read that Herschel Walker was not a big weights guy and that had he been one, could have extended his NFL career. He would do something like 1,000 push up a day. He was “the man” at Georgia, though.

  136. iwonderwhytheyhateme August 6, 2012 9:05 am

Was excited and looking forward to them BCS transfers. Oh wells, shouldn’t have gotten my hopes up.

  137. Shoko August 6, 2012 9:07 am

I hope when I reach 50 I can look as good as Herschel. That guy looks incredible!

  138. WarriorNY August 6, 2012 9:10 am

    Wow, I just read Bo Jackson ran a 4.12 40 yard dash… That’s just insane…

  139. Shoko August 6, 2012 9:13 am

Yep, back then tho, it was handtimed.

  140. WarriorNY August 6, 2012 9:14 am

I guess the Tebow “will change the attitude of the locker room” was off…

    http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/story/_/id/8239546/new-york-jets-players-brawl-fans-team-practice

  141. Shoko August 6, 2012 9:14 am

Yea, Herschel had a weird workout regimen. Mostly exercises that involved low impact – high repetition routine that concentrated on fast twitch muscles. Which is probably why he was so explosive.

  142. Shoko August 6, 2012 9:16 am

Or is that the other way around about slow verses fast twitch muscles. I forget…

  143. Google August 6, 2012 9:35 am

Does the team practice on Saturday? If so, what time?

  146. al August 6, 2012 9:52 am

dave…wow, he sure was muscular. i thought he was responsible for the modern day sprinter’s physique.

  147. Bryson August 6, 2012 9:57 am

Any info on what time practices will be held on Thursday or Friday?

  148. lowtone123 August 6, 2012 9:59 am

Unlike Ben Johnson (body by injection).

  149. madeinhawaii August 6, 2012 10:00 am

Over 150 posts before 10 am…. Football season must be just around the corner…

  150. mikey August 6, 2012 10:03 am

    Morn’g

From the Top Gun QB Academy Sean Schroeder workout video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CG9BaShZ9O0

Watched him this pass Saturday he got the accuracy and the mechanics to go with it.

Also talked to Fields a big CB at 6-3 he says can’t wait to get on the field and will be wearing #21 so watch for him in the fields.

He also said he played against Bright he is huge now and looked good catching the ball from Sean.

  151. hilousupaman August 6, 2012 10:03 am

Met Hersehel one day at Hickam… very cool dude!

He said he has never lifted weights, not sure I believe him. He is GIANT! He is in his 40s now and has been in Martial Arts for 20+ years. He even had a couple fights in MMA.

Bo Jackson, was one hell of an athlete! BO KNOWS SPEED!

  152. HawaiiMongoose August 6, 2012 10:13 am

Like Moleni, Toli Ilaoa is also coming off a two-year LDS mission.

  153. d1shima August 6, 2012 10:13 am

I watched a :30 for 30 (I think was that series) on Walker.

Quite a story. Dumpy as a young kid. Started running, doing push-ups and sit-ups. Soon was racing the train by his house and doing thousands of push-ups and sit-ups daily.

    The rest is history…

  154. (Jesse) James August 6, 2012 10:19 am

I read a story on Herschel Walker in Muscle and Fitness when I was in college. Saw the same thing as everyone else on the blog…he said he basically did a lot of running, push-ups, and sit-ups/crunches and that was his training regimen. Unreal….

  155. d1shima August 6, 2012 10:28 am

…I also heard he was trying to emulate (J)J.

    heheheh

  156. hilousupaman August 6, 2012 10:33 am

  164. mctruck August 6, 2012 11:01 am

Trying to remembah if there was a video of Schroeder in action??

  165. Pomai August 6, 2012 11:08 am

Just MHO but don’t count Graves out yet.

  166. al August 6, 2012 11:12 am

d1…i think that would be koakane.

he must be in training, he’s been so quiet lately.

  167. GA Warrior August 6, 2012 11:15 am

I got to tell you that it doesn’t give me a lot of confidence that our newly named starter is someone who couldn’t even get on the field at Duke and has no game experience. Hate to say it but this is going to a rough season, 4 and 8 here we come.

  168. d1shima August 6, 2012 11:19 am

    al,

That did come to mind. 😉

  169. LizKauai August 6, 2012 11:28 am

    HiHo!

  170. cincodemayonnaisse August 6, 2012 11:28 am

Colt Brennan was a walk on and was a nobody at Colorado, not even out of HS…goes on to be the best QB we’ve ever had, undefeated season and sugar bowl appearance…

Now what’s the issue we have with Schroeder again?

  171. Big hilo fan2 August 6, 2012 11:39 am

Wow.makamae leaves go CW Post 8/8. Short like da czech. Get chance fo Olympics RIO 2016.

    😀

  172. WarriorNY August 6, 2012 11:40 am

    GA Warrior,

Schroeder was ranked above Derek Carr outta high school. And now Carr is a on the preseason first team all MWC… Nothing against Pat Hill but I’d rather have my QB coached by CutCliffe for 3 years than Pat Hill… Who knows why it didn’t work out but don’t be so quick to judge…

  177. RedZone August 6, 2012 12:01 pm

The current quarterback at Duke is on the Davy O’brien watch list. He is projected to go pro. His backup is a duo threat type who can also run the ball which the head coach really likes. 3rd in line is also very athletic and may see some time at wr or tightend. Seems to me Schroeder was the odd man out. Happens all the time. Remember Steele Jantz?

  178. GA Warrior August 6, 2012 12:11 pm

Colt was a redshirt freshman not a three year benchwarmer and the qb on the O’Brien watchlist wasnt there when he started, I hope he turns out to be All-Conference but starting this guy or someone who has started, played, and show an ability to make plays with his feet and arm seems to be a better choice. Sorry I am not drinking the Kool-Aid (or Chow-Aid)….

  179. GA Warrior August 6, 2012 12:12 pm

sorry, starting this guy OVER ……

  180. SteveM August 6, 2012 12:22 pm

GA Warrior — do you reside in Georgia? If so, please share what city.

Wes’side Warrior is in the Lawrenceville area and has rallied a group of UH fans. I know you have been mostly lurking since 2008…welcome back! 🙂

  181. expat August 6, 2012 12:28 pm

Don’t forget about Ron Brown of the Rams — gold medal in the 4×100 relay in the 84 Olympics. He was a pretty good receiver and returner and could really move. He averaged over 18 yards per reception over his career and a respectable 22 yrds on kickoff returns.

  182. Derek August 6, 2012 12:48 pm

And don’t forget Willie Gault, AND the one and only Bullet Bob Hayes.

Alex Morgan is going to be the Queen of women’s USA soccer replacing Abby Wambaugh who replaced Mia Hamm. Morgan has the looks, the speed, the skills, and the game to dominate foe a long time. Only 23 she’s a former All American at UC – Berkley.

Kevin Durant was on today. 28 points. 8 of 9 from 3 pt range. Game was chippy. I think Argentina got frustrated and started to play dirty. Blow out.

  183. SAWARRIOR August 6, 2012 1:16 pm

wow, Fred matua, former USC lineman, dead at 28.

  184. SAWARRIOR August 6, 2012 1:17 pm

#186 Alex Morgan will be the best in the world.

  185. RedZone August 6, 2012 1:21 pm

I choose to be optimistic until I see otherwise.

  186. Stephen Tsai August 6, 2012 1:28 pm

David Graves moved to receiver. He’s in white jersey today. He’s still the No. 3 QB.

  187. Ben A. Lurker August 6, 2012 1:29 pm

cool schroeder has two to play; thought grad school meant only one to play after getting the BA.

  188. lurkster August 6, 2012 1:33 pm

who are the first unit running backs, te and wr?

  189. Kevin August 6, 2012 1:42 pm

New HC gets to chose his assistant coaches and coordinators…

New HC gets to chose the offense and defense he wants to run…

New HC gets to chose the people he thinks will run his offense and defense the best.

If this were the previous coaching staff, then it would make sense for people with playing experience to get the nod at QB, but this is not the same offense. People can have their personal favs, but common sense shows a clean slate doesn’t owe anything to anyone.

Best of luck to Sean Schroeder.

P.S. Sean, don’t read blogs, just listen to the coaches, they know you and your abilities the best. Same goes for ALL student-athletes.

  190. Haleakala August 6, 2012 1:56 pm

    Kevin:

Good advice for all the athletes.

  191. cheepono August 6, 2012 1:59 pm

good luck to graves. which spot is he battling for? LWO? RWO?

  192. kapakahi August 6, 2012 1:59 pm

Warriors batting just 1 (Grimes) for 3 (with JT & Brown out) thus far with JC scholie transfers.

With JT now apparently out, Fields would be crucial for depth at CB. Same for Milovale to add depth at OT position.

  193. kapakahi August 6, 2012 2:00 pm

Good luck to David Graves…..at any position…..for the Warriors!

  213. Warrior in Georgia August 6, 2012 4:33 pm

To my fellow GA Warrior, I concur. If like me, you have spent a lifetime watching football here in the South (the best in the nation) and have seen Duke play over the last decade, it doesn’t give you a warm and fuzzy feeling about a guy who couldn’t start there, having FOUR practices and already being our starter. By the way for all of those who believe that Chow is an offensive “genius”, his teams at USC had PRO STARTERS and that’s why he looked good. Over the last four years, his offenses have been horrible with the same kind of mid-level talent we get at Hawaii and the offenses we have had were a great deal better over the last 10 years. Trying to stay optomistic, but its not easy.

  214. al August 6, 2012 4:47 pm

it just made sense that graves move to somewhere on the offense.

  215. al August 6, 2012 4:59 pm

    however, 17 wr is plenty.

  216. mo808 August 6, 2012 5:03 pm

Cudos to Graves, we need him on the field in any capacity that helps the team!

  217. mo808 August 6, 2012 5:05 pm

    Happy Birthday to Screecher!!

  218. Old School Dave August 6, 2012 5:05 pm

Coach Chow knows a little something about QBs. Look what he did at Utah when the starter went down with an injury and they were forced to go with a 4th string quarterback, John Hays, who was originally headed to a Division II school – Nebraska-Omaha. Hays led Utah to a 6-3 record and a victory in the Sun Bowl.

  219. Kevin August 6, 2012 5:14 pm

    Guten Tag Herr Schroeder.

  220. WarriorNY August 6, 2012 5:14 pm

Warrior in Georgia, Are you GA Warrior? I am having serious déjà vu with a guy named Lanai boy…

  221. Kevin August 6, 2012 5:24 pm

“Theatricality and deception are powerful agents…”

  222. Kevin August 6, 2012 5:25 pm

But you always have someone who is not aware of their surroundings… HA!

  223. cincodemayonnaisse August 6, 2012 5:35 pm

It is because Chow chose Schroeder as starter that some have more optimism. I’d take Chow’s knowledge of his selection over anyone at Duke. Love when people knock Chow’s results as it being all players and that’s about it, USC hasn’t won a national championship since he left…hmmm

People tend to forget that small little stint he had at BYU….think he won a “ship” there and had some decent QB’s come out of there…lol

At the very least, history has shown, that if you shut up and get out of the way. Chow is a winner….so, shut up and get out of the way…

  224. WarriorNY August 6, 2012 5:45 pm

    Kevin,

Were you trained by Ra’s Al Ghul?

  225. oldtimer808 August 6, 2012 5:51 pm

Unbelievable these arm chair quarterbacks that think they know better than the coaches. Coach Chow knows what to do and he can recognize the kind of players that will do well in their positions. I’m with #228.

  226. Kevin August 6, 2012 6:08 pm

    WarriorNY:

    August 6th, 2012 at 5:45 pm

    Kevin,

Were you trained by Ra’s Al Ghul?

I wish. No such ads for the League of Shadows in the Yellowpages… too many ground fo pound and kanakshen MMA schools littering the pages tho… HA! 😆 😆 😆

  227. WarriorNY August 6, 2012 6:08 pm

    oldtimer808,

Don’t worry about that guy… I’m with you and Kevin and cincodemayonnaisse, Coach Chow has 40 years of experience in some of the best programs in the country.. I’ll take his word over anyone….

  228. WarriorNY August 6, 2012 6:10 pm

    Kevin,

    Hahaha…

  229. tommui August 6, 2012 6:10 pm

As for #218, his remarks, as a former vice president once said, is nattering nabobs of negativism.

  230. paintslinger9 August 6, 2012 6:17 pm

For 218. who has been ‘watching foot ball in the south’ for a lifetime, you might had spent some time at UH practice Saturday. Schroeder has a very good arm.

Nobody is saying this is ‘Christ come to cleanse the Temple’, but he is a good looking QB and I saw a lot of good football players on that field during the practice. Have a little faith baby, even guys on the West Coast and Hawaii can play football.

  231. Da Punchbowl Kid August 6, 2012 6:34 pm

Before anyone judges Chow, they must look at his body of work. It doesn’t get much better. And you are right paint, there WERE a lot of good football players on the field on Saturday. For a third practice, ALL QBs and receivers looked pretty decent. The whole team looked good… nuff said.

  232. madeinhawaii August 6, 2012 7:06 pm

If the other QBs can learn by watching Schroeder, then that’s a plus. If they learn from watching someone who’s not doing it quite right, then we might be reinforcing bad technique.

  233. lava August 6, 2012 7:18 pm

Attempting to implement new schemes using players inherited from the former coaches almost certainly suggests this team will get worse before it gets better. I hear negative sentiments from different posts, but I can’t fault the guys for voicing opinions that appear to have some merit. Alo and Graves as receivers make this a better football team? Please.

  234. BigHiloFan2 August 6, 2012 7:26 pm

    naggering nabobs of negativism.

    I can’t live wit dat. 😆

    too…negative.

Schroeder… no pay attention to any negativity. really looking forward to you lighting da house up.

    Go Warriors!

  235. Bryson August 6, 2012 7:42 pm

Re 234:It made Hawaii a better team when RGM became a reciever after being a quarterback in HS…and Graves has experience playing wide reciever he was actually an 2x all league reciever before he was a QB…..So yes this may make us better…

  236. BigHiloFan2 August 6, 2012 7:59 pm

i don’t fault anyone who speaks there mind and gives their honest assessment. I do fault someone who spews undigested beans. not only is there a foul odor, but there is also foul residue.

if you ain’t seen the Schro, you should not sit in judgment.

and for the guy who said Coach Chow didn’t do a good job with what he had last year at Utah, you are outta your cotton pickin mind. 😆 you need a acai berry cleanse. 😀

28 days outta dodo da truck. i meant trick.

  237. kama krab August 6, 2012 7:59 pm

    Howzit Everybody,

Man this Schroeder film is solid. Yah there’s no pads, no pass rush, and no blockers but just looking at his footwoek and ball placement. Man he looks good. Looks like he also has pretty good zip on the ball. Looks like a solid pick especially after watching that spring game.

  238. kama krab August 6, 2012 8:01 pm

And no disrespect to any of the other QB’s but the performance at the spring game was just darn right ugly.

  239. BigHiloFan2 August 6, 2012 8:01 pm

a few years ago had a suggestion for a kid from Keaau to come play for UH.

the crop Coach Chow and crew have put togedda this year are out of this

world, compared to what we’re used to, in general. thas my honest assessment.

and good for Graves. whose to know where he’ll end up mid season. main thing is,

he’s living in the moment, and the moment is to be a Warrior.

    way to go David.

    Go Graves.

    Go Warriors.

  240. tommui August 6, 2012 8:03 pm

#237 BHF2 – unsanitary – but you took the words right out of my mouth!

By the way, how goes your Alaskan adventure?

  241. BigHiloFan2 August 6, 2012 8:03 pm

and Dunnachie is back practicing with the team.

Way to go, Alex. Way to go, Coach.

    Way to go, Warriors

  242. kama krab August 6, 2012 8:07 pm

    Inregards to the JC recruits,

Yah it looks pretty bad right now that less than half of our JC guys have made the grade but the biggest surprise has been that all but one freshmen has made it in. That in itself is a big accomplishment and will vote well not only for this season but for the future. Yah the JC guys are needed for immediate impact but if the freshmen can continue to grow throughout camp, then they will fill in what we lost in the JC guys.

  243. kama krab August 6, 2012 8:09 pm

Oh and don’t forget that we do have some kids in the “bullpen” that are ready to show Coach Chow what they have. Not really concerned at all. Just looking forward to the journey.

  244. kapakahi August 6, 2012 8:10 pm

Anyone who has watched the open Fall Camp practices thus far….and knows anything remotely technical about the game….would agree with Chow that Schroeder looks like “the man”…..just a silky smooth lefty.

  245. koakane August 6, 2012 8:12 pm

just staying one step ahead of #206 (jj)

  246. kama krab August 6, 2012 8:14 pm

    Agree Kapakahi #245,

Never been to practice yet but just watching his video, you can see that we have something to work with. Just gotta see how he reacts under pressure. When the pads come on we will see who is still standing but for now, yah this kid looks solid.

  247. kapakahi August 6, 2012 8:16 pm

    #244. KK,

Having the true frosh report in early July and enroll in school for 2nd Summer Session went a long way to reduce the drama in finding out very early as to who would be eligible for Fall Camp.

  248. koakane August 6, 2012 8:17 pm

in twenty something days or so we shall see the newer version of UH warrior fball so relax ex-lax.

  249. kapakahi August 6, 2012 8:19 pm

    #247. KK,

Players were wearing pads and shorts for this past Saturday’s practice.

Will be interesting to see how Schroeder performs with everyone in full pads this coming Saturday.

  250. SteveM August 6, 2012 8:23 pm

Planning or hoping to attend a UH football road game this year?

If so, please let me know which game(s).

  251. BigHiloFan2 August 6, 2012 8:40 pm

    Tommui.

emplified foreign judgment. we’ll see how much its worth. still working on the problem. but

gives me a legitimate reason to come to Honolulu week of 10/17+/- for CA9 argument in Honolulu. by then i’ll either be on high alert because Warriors are kickin butt, or i’ll be on high alert because imma tryna kick butt.

i keep thinking of David Carridine: patience, grasshopper. 😀

  252. koakane August 6, 2012 8:42 pm

    🙂

  253. Derek August 6, 2012 8:43 pm

We know one Schroeder is a good QB. Jay Schroeder was a pro at the Redskins and da Raiders. Maybe Sean is related to him!

  254. paintslinger9 August 6, 2012 8:44 pm

Saturday the practice revealed several things…not just QB Schroeder; it also showed that we have a running back stable of guys who can get it done…a couple of them have serious speed and could play for anybody.

We also saw at least two tight ends who can catch and who will give tacklers problems regardless of what uniforms they wear. Our O line looked pretty good and even if they are young. And the secondary looked pretty sharp. The nice thing to remember is all these guys can only get better. If Coach Chow can bring these guys together in unity (thats what he does best by the way) this version of the Warriors will do us proud. I’m very optimistic.

  255. koakane August 6, 2012 8:44 pm

    8-p

  256. BigHiloFan2 August 6, 2012 8:47 pm

    Tsaikos,

I’m thinking that Coach Chow is a really really really smart Chinaman! Crafty. Prior Plans his moves. Lines up his ducks. gets a somebody with plenty experience and a no threat body. so nobody gets huhu with his poaching of a prolly brilliant performer. brilliant.

the proof was in the spring game. the transformation from dat game to this past weekend was like Knight and Day. an fo doze who cannot see all dat, like my mama use to say, slow students!

    😆

  257. BigHiloFan2 August 6, 2012 8:54 pm

i also think for next year’s JC recruiting, our recruiter needs help with the paperwork processing.

just to make sure i got my faks right, is Fields in or out?

cuz we didn’t get help with JT, right? we got Milovale, right? we ain’t got Dorsey, right?

I’ll bet Princess Leila coulda videod her way through da palapala and convinced boat da cruits and da schools to give her da palapala. 😀

    darnnnnn….

  258. al August 6, 2012 8:56 pm

kama krab…the jc scoreboard is not that bad.

we recruited 6 who committed to transfer.

    3 are in.

1 awaits the transcripts from a school known to lag behind.

2 have not made it through. one of which will enroll in january.

of the three who are in, one is a four star, another a three star, and the last a highly regarded 2 star.

on the wing awaiting transcripts is a 2-3 star while the january late comer is a solid three star..

i’d go after that kind of talent knowing quite well that the risk of the reward could bear a return of 66 2/3 %. considering the talent level of those making it through the gate.

  259. al August 6, 2012 8:59 pm

dorsey was a what if that never came to fruition and we really didn’t offer him because he was far from achieving the necessary academics.

fields is still on the cusp. the drop dead date appears to be friday evening.

  260. BigHiloFan2 August 6, 2012 9:06 pm

    Al

thank you for the clarity, scholarly breakdown and analyses. 😀

how come you know so much?

  263. BigHiloFan2 August 6, 2012 9:08 pm

i know they were your rivals back then but come help a big island team.

  265. al August 6, 2012 9:11 pm

  272. iwonderwhytheyhateme August 6, 2012 9:42 pm

    BHF,

I think Dunnachie was allowed to practice from the get go.

  273. Stephen Tsai August 6, 2012 9:59 pm

The problem with Dorsey dates to high school.

It has something to do with the curriculum he was taking at his high school.

When Urban Meyer was recruiting him, everything was hunky and dory. But when he decided to go to Michigan, then all of a sudden there were problems as to whether he was a qualifier or not. If he’s deemed a qualifier out of high school, as UH coaches insist, then he’s eligible and can play here. But apparently the Clearinghouse didn’t agree, or at least didn’t agree right away, so he’s not eligible to play this year.

  274. BigHiloFan2 August 6, 2012 10:14 pm

    IWWTHM

maybe so. he sure sounded happy tonight on KGMB. good vibes.

    ST

Dorsey. first there has to be a set story on whether his clock started running at Michigan or not. If it did, then he was a qualifier. Am I reading the UH coaches correctly? and did he get a AA degree?

i peel for Dorsey. what can we do about that one? He’s gifted. He sure reads like he wants to be a Warrior. I don’t understand, what else can we do to help us out and get him to play with us?

  275. tommui August 6, 2012 10:22 pm

#257 BHF2 says: “I’m thinking that Coach Chow is a really really really smart Chinaman!”

    Aren’t they all? 🙂

  276. account alegro August 6, 2012 10:24 pm

Thank you for the good writeup. It if truth be told used to be a leisure account it. Glance complicated to far delivered agreeable from you! By the way, how can we keep up a correspondence?

  277. d1shima August 6, 2012 10:26 pm

  278. BigHiloFan2 August 6, 2012 10:31 pm

saw they had a right knee brace on Schroeder. hmmm….

  279. kev-1 August 6, 2012 10:33 pm

I am happy that a starting QB was named. BUT, are people forgetting that when this kid Schroeder steps on the field against USC it will be his first college football game . . . EVER? People are calling him the man and everything else. Maybe he is. But, you have to think he would have been given a better look before if he were that good.

Something just doesn’t seem right. He has literally been a Warrior for a couple of weeks and has already won the starting job? I guess the transition from the RnS to pro style is a lot tougher than I thought.

I hate to be so skeptical here, but I would hate for the fans to get all over this kid if he gets rattled at USC and it takes him a few games to get his jitters out. I understand that every player has to have their first game some time, but the expectations that are about to be put on Schroeder’s shoulders are heavy. Hope he realizes how hard it is to be the starting QB out here in Hawaii . . . with the fans I mean.

Good luck braddah Sean. Although I am choosing to temper my excitement, I am still rooting for you 100%.

  280. BigHiloFan2 August 6, 2012 10:34 pm

i mean, i wonder what that means, besides precaution for the games? getting hit from the blind side? does Woolsey use knee brace too?

  281. kev-1 August 6, 2012 10:34 pm

Big Hilo . . . I’m pretty sure it is Chow’s policy for all the QBs to wear a knee brace on their front knee.

  282. BigHiloFan2 August 6, 2012 10:36 pm

    there you go, Kev-1.

positive waves. positive waves is da winnaz. 😀

  283. kev-1 August 6, 2012 10:36 pm

And to Braddah Graves . . . I’ll miss that kid behind center. I hope he decides to do what’s best for him next year, in terms of transferring or staying. If being a starting QB is his dream, I hope he gets that chance somewhere. If not, I’ll be excited to watch him tear it up wherever they put him in Warrior Green.

  284. d1shima August 6, 2012 10:38 pm

What is so unusual about a RS Jr going into camp with no PT?

His last team didn’t exactly chalk up oodles of garbage time….

  285. BigHiloFan2 August 6, 2012 10:38 pm

    thanks for the info.

its been swell tonight. laterz gang. …………….

  286. Guava August 6, 2012 10:39 pm

    Al –

Konawaena has played at Aloha Stadium before!

Back when guys like Billy Stephens and Billy Ulu represented the Wildcats.

  287. Kevin August 6, 2012 10:39 pm

Who’s calling Schroeder “the man”? Yeah, he’s the man, the man to start at QB.

As for “the man” in the sense we all know, it’s quite foolish to do that to any D1 student-athlete in any sport beforemaking their D1 debut in any situation on the field/court/swimming pool/..etc…

  288. kev-1 August 6, 2012 10:40 pm

Not that unusual . . . not really what I meant. My point is that people tend to over-hype. And while they have every right to be excited, because I am too, they need to remember that USC will be his first start. That will be tough for anyone. I just don’t want all the haters to come after him if he struggles early on.

Do I hope that he turns out to be great? Of course.

  289. BigHiloFan2 August 6, 2012 10:41 pm

plus, it looks like he learned something along the way towards getting his degree in 3 years, besides political science. he is smuuth looking, for sure.

btw, which grad school is he in, anyone know?

  290. BigHiloFan2 August 6, 2012 10:44 pm

how can there be any real haters when Coach Chow is looking like a first class grouch? he certainly has got my attention, biting on dem dat don’t listen to his sultry voice and heed his warnings, “no f*ckn around or else”.

da slow students neva catch on early, but day catchin on now fosua.

  291. kev-1 August 6, 2012 10:45 pm

Excited about the smarts though, that’s for sure.

  292. BigHiloFan2 August 6, 2012 10:46 pm

    Go UH.

    Go Academia.

  293. d1shima August 6, 2012 10:47 pm

    What time is practice tomorrow?

  294. d1shima August 6, 2012 10:50 pm

Uh, ahem….I wonder if a certain Tsaiko would be inclined to restart the “tradition” of posting all the daily sports reports on practice to Yutoob? 🙂

  295. gigi-hawaii August 6, 2012 10:59 pm

I think Schroeder was accepted for a Master’s degree in Human Resource Management. Correct?

  296. Think2much August 6, 2012 11:00 pm

There was Walter Briggs who was a quarterback but moved to safety in his senior year and played tremendously.

  297. gigi-hawaii August 6, 2012 11:01 pm

We all know that Graves liked to scramble. Will that translate into being a good receiver?

  298. Stephen Tsai August 6, 2012 11:27 pm

All of the QBs wear a knee brace.

  299. Stephen Tsai August 6, 2012 11:28 pm

I told him: How else will Kanoa know that Graves moved to receiver?

went to University of Hawaii Athletics and was watching the video and listening to Coach and the players, including Schroeder. Paipai said they’re going to be ready and “shock the world.” I believe him.

    damn I’m excited!

  320. Ha! August 7, 2012 5:19 am

so you can still tweet all of UH plays to the world. Just not at practice.

  321. hilousupaman August 7, 2012 5:36 am

I too have a lot of worries about this team…. I think the most important is that we will be starting new. This gives us fans to start new also.

our boyz need us, filling the stadium is where it starts! Wish I could be there!

I remember seeing Timmy Chang booed at home… couldn’t have been more shame! I mean come on people he is homegrown and playing for US! That kind of thing is what can’t happen!

Not saying that after the game when dicsussing the evens I won’t talk about bone head plays! Just saying thats not what they need to hear….

  322. Inyoface August 7, 2012 5:45 am

Hawaii had a chance to beat USC in 2010. One of the main reasons they didn’t was that the defensive plays weren’t called in time.

  323. hilousupaman August 7, 2012 5:47 am

323…. also the blown call at the end of the first half. Replay showed a TD and they still got it wrong

  324. protector August 7, 2012 5:57 am

Inyoface on #323, a couple of brutal calls in favor of the Trojans helped influence the game. It seems to have been just another case of officials protecting the marquee team from suffering embarrassment on national television as it was with one Boise game here where the game was stolen from UH and as it was in a couple of BYU games. The Sugar Bowl was especially galling, too, where the officials decided not to call encroachment / off-sides against the Bulldogs; that team did not need any help but they got it anyway.

  325. Inyoface August 7, 2012 6:00 am

That’s another one 324. This year they gotta go up against them with zero intimidation and manage the game in sound tactical way that I believe Coach Chow will instill in them.

  326. Inyoface August 7, 2012 6:09 am

Plus in the Sugar Bowl I believe Hawaii should’ve been the “home” team. Georgia didn’t need anymore favors at it was but we’re going up against marquee teams as you said 325. But that’s all in the past, we still need to prove to the nation we’re a consistent team year in and year out.

  327. hilousupaman August 7, 2012 6:13 am

I think at minimum we cover the spread!

    Wariior Nation Shock the world!

That 2010 USC game was crazy… I remember we racked up close to 600 yards against them… Kiffen’s halftime interview was classic…

  330. Inyoface August 7, 2012 6:28 am

Appalachian State beat #5 Michigan at Michigan, you never know..

  331. protector August 7, 2012 6:33 am

Inyoface, totally agree with what you said on 327. I truly hope this the moment we’ve been waiting for and there’s no bigger stage or arena to do it in. Go Warriors, Shock the World!!

  332. WarriorNY August 7, 2012 6:35 am

    Inyoface…

To put in perspective how big underdogs we are against USC, App State was only a 28 point underdog… We’re 38 point dogs against USC…

  333. WarriorNY August 7, 2012 6:38 am

For what reason, who knows… Our guys will play hard, and we will surprise a lot of people…

    Howzit, everyone!

Wow, haterz starting to creep in early this season, already!

    I like IWWTHM’s #309 (August 7th, 2012 at 12:38 am) Good one! Deep too!

Someone previously posted the list of QB’s in front of Schroeder at Duke. That sounded like a legitimate reason for him not to have seen any live action yet.

At any rate, I believe in Coach Chow. I don’t see how any of us regular folks can have more “experience” in these matters than a guy like Coach. Forget that we may have played a couple of years of youth ball, or even high school ball. Forget what your Fantasy league looks like. Forget what your NCAA Football video game dictates, or the fact that you’ve mastered it. Our coach has lived it his whole life. He’ll work with what he has, with his eyes on our future. None of us work for ESPN, so we can’t be considered “experts” (yet). Let it all play out.

    One interesting thing…

We’ve got former QB’s at RB and WR. This opens up many possibilities. I don’t know what other positions at UH are filled by former QB’s, but all I remember is that the QB’s I grew up with were usually the most naturally talented kids in the neighborhood. It’s a good thing.

These kids move to positions our coaches think they’ll fit better in, and be able to contribute to the team. I’m happy with that.

  342. Da Punchbowl Kid August 7, 2012 7:10 am

    Good Morning Gangeez!

Chow know chrowers QBs. In Chow we chrust.

  343. BigHiloFan2 August 7, 2012 7:11 am

remember the beast and Weber State coming Aloha Stadium and he played his butt off for himself, his mom and pop, and us? and he came back home, trying to get on da team?

i truly believe Coach Chow and Kaumeyer could have gotten him ready and he woulda played somewhere, maybe even change position. Coach has that gift, that “it” factor. You can see it in his face, even if you’re blind. It might take awhile to see him, like the 3 blind guys took a little whiler longer a little earlier this year, but you eventually come to the conclusion you don’t mess with coach. Coach has “it”, no doubt about it. Paipai said it best: we’re going to shock the world.

    I believe.

  345. Da Punchbowl Kid August 7, 2012 7:11 am

    Try that again –

Chow knows chrowers (QBs). In Chow we chrust.
