Mouton meets with Steelers, Patriots
At the official combine evaluations, Mouton was measured at 5 feet 9. His weight was 187.
He also bench pressed 225 pounds 18 times.
Mouton said he had a one-on-one interview with Pittsburgh Steeler head coach Mike Tomlin, and an individual interview with the New England Patriots. He has met with every NFL team.
Mouton runs the 40 tomorrow, then departs Indianapolis in the afternoon for Hawai‘i, where he will spend two weeks.

Jake Ingram is back in Hawai‘i after participating in the NFL Scouting Combine.
He was interviewed by several teams, competed in a four-hour workout and took part in several drills. He bench pressed 225 pounds 15 times, but admittedly ran a disappointing 40-yard sprint. Those drills matter little, although Ingram, the perfectionist, wants to be proficient in all areas.
His next goal is to gain “lean muscle mass.”
He weighed in at 232 at the combine, six pounds lighter than what he weighed when he left Hawai‘i. The long plane ride and hectic combine schedule likely led to the weight loss.
While Ingram was grateful for being invited to the combine, where he received positive reviews, he said: “It doesn’t mean you’ve made it. It’s another step in the process. You can never be satisfied. You can never be complacent. You have to keep working hard.”

If you’re interested in tickets for Thursday’s volleyball match between UH and Stanford, just say, “I’m interested,” and you’re automatically entered in the drawing. Winner will be announced during tomorrow’s WB video show. Tomorrow’s guest is Jim Donovan.

Ryan Grice-Mullins, Davone Bess and Corey Nielsen:
FIRST!
second?
Gee – top five or something!
LIZ – great shots! Thank you from Eric! (and me)
And like the Oscars, I wish to thank SteveM, Las Vegas etc for a great evening.
Third?
and what are “usual business hours” for HA employees??
I’m interested
Good Luck to all the former Warriors!
Hello!!!
I’m interested
WHOA……….top ten!
Aloha Kakahiaka!!!
I’m interested.
Good luck to Jake, Ryan & Veikune!
Top 12!
I hope that Jake Ingram can gain weight by UH’s Pro Day! Colt’s weight at the combine hurt his draft status and I believe Ingram losing weight before the combine also hurt his draft status. Ingram has a limited time to gain the weight back and try to add some more…he doesn’t have to get huge but every pound will help the NFL feel more comfortable about drafting him.
Wisconsin is having budgetary problems like most schools and they are trying to cut athletic expenses…so, I’d guess future games in Aloha Stadium will be out until the economy is much, much better.
i’m interested.
cheepono….how many firsts have you had??
i would think that ingram would not attend the pro day event since he had decent numbers and interviews. not unless he can run a 4.8/40 and gain 12 lbs.
those interested would bring him in where he would get weighed i am sure. that to me would be his biggest concern aside from his snap accuracy.
Ingram is attending Pro Day.
I’m interested.
I’d like to see the local men on the team. Six of the 20 players on the Stanford team are from Hawaii.
Max Halvorson, Punahou
Jordan Inafuku, Kamehameha
Brad Lawson, Iolani
Spenser McLachlin, Punahou
Erik Shoji, Punahou
Kawika Shoji, Iolani
when is the uh pro day?
and here’s a thought……how about a live audience for your video chats?
imagine you could be on the other end of a “press conference”.
al: i’ve had maybe around 10 or so… dating back to the blog’s infancy stages.
I’m interested.
If I win, give them to Al.
Aloha Tsaikos
Hope Everyone is doing fine….Had a really nice Memorial Service for SPC Walters today…sad…Got to get together with friends that we havent seen since we got here in Kuwait…I even talked to fellow Tsaiko and soldier (Rep) Maj Mark Takai….we talked about all the KK and CC that me and him are missing out on..sucks…also the Unlv game in Sept..said he just got his tickets…Cant wait for Warrior Football. And the t-gates
Everyone have a nice day, And dont take life for granted..for you dont know what tomorro may bring… ALOHA.from the Big Sandbox….
aloha Frank 🙂
mr mojito, how’s it rolling dawg? hope all is well, good to hear you hooked up with Takai.
be safe
It’s not to often that one hears about a politician serving his country like Takai does. Kudos to him.
Frank, tell him to stay save and you too, off course.
I would imagine Cheepono sets his blog alarm clock for a shot at the 1st place spot every day. It’s a matter of pride!
Surely the directorate of the WB can find some kind of meaningful prize for him. I would venture to say that the Advertizer’s 10% windfall pay cut account would more than cover any sort of recompense.
May I suggest a SF cruise to Maui? R/T air fares to LV are at all time lows….or, how about 2 season tickets to watch the UH Warriors? Wouldn’t that be a fair ‘good will’ gesture?
You’re interesting!
😳
Sorry, just a flashback from the days of attending seminars….
Great attitude from Mr. Ingram. Never act like you’ve arrived.
Frank25,
Nice to read your posts from….your post!
IDK if anyone commented on it yet but it was nice to see CB, DB and RGM giving back for that UH ticket commercial I saw during bay-su-bo-ru over the weekend. (At least, I think they were “giving” back)
haha kekoa.
there’s several different ways of getting up-to-date immediate information regarding when ST first posts in the morning. twitter, rss feeds, etc. that go directly to your phone are some of the more common ways.
for me though, being the diligent state worker that i am… it’s almost always pure coincidence ST posts when i stroll in to the office. 😉
and winning the 2 tickets to the Pro Bowl was more than enough compensation for my loyalty to reading his blog FIRST of all things i do when i arrive at work.
Ian Johnson, Boise State RB
Johnson came into Indianapolis known as a high-character prospect who’d do whatever was needed for a team. He finished the Combine as a hot overall prospect who cranked out stunningly strong numbers. Size wasn’t a question mark at a solid 5-11 and 212 pounds, but his 4.46 in the 40 had the scouts checking their watches. The 26 reps of 225 pounds would’ve been solid for a lineman, much less a running back.
Hey Bulla how is the Beast recovering?
When is their spring practice starting up?
if locall boys train by running in the sand does boys up in the cold practice running in the snow?
Aloooooooooha!
I’m interested. In the volleyball tix, that is. 🙂
OK, you’re all invited to attend tomorrow’s video.
Didn’t Chad Owens do 26 reps, too?
Good for Johnson, best of luck to him. The same goes for the Warriors at the combine.
You’re asking us?
My bad. Owens did 23.
It’s a small room. But you’re welcome to join us.
Even A-Joe can come, if he promises not to get misty when we break into “About You.”
Wait lemme ask somebody who should know.
Hey Tsai, how many reps did CO do at 225?
😆
The correct answers is: What ever Johnson did, CO did MORE! 😆
Good Monday everyone!
Still recovering from the weekend and have been reviewing the posts. I almost missed this one…
In Al’s support (hey, I’m serious this time…mostly) he is not the reason for gigi’s retreat. They had a Garfield-Odie* relationship on the blog since 2006 and I know Al (and Jason and DPK) are among the very few people ever invited to her place to watch UH PPV football on a 52″ Bravia. 🙂 Accepted or not, that is a measure of her regard for them.
Want the real story? You gotta buy ST’s book about the blog when it’s written… 😛
* don’t ask who is which, I’ve seen it go both ways 😆
Sorry to burst your bubble…..Punchbowl
CO did 23 and a 4.62 40 yard
Johnson did 26 and wowed the scouts with 4.46
Pound for pound CO might have the advantage but Johnson was haulin @ss at 212 pounds to Owens 183
Howulikedemapples?
I’m interested!!
Too bad we couldn’t keep some of those Hawaii boys home from Stanford. Can’t blame them though.
Awcmon Apples-
That was a “homer” joke. Seriously I wish Johnson all the best. The guy’s a class act. So is CO. Jokin; around on here isn’t gonna burst nothin’ me. 😉
Besides, about the bench thing, you can always do a pound for pound comparison, right? 😉
Hi DPK!! Hope that you are feeling better now.
And I was just thinking to myself…what do we Warrior fans really care about Ian Johnson? Just asking the question. Great guy or not, not much about him that I am interested in.
Good afternoon Tsaiks!
Yep, can’t wait to see DPK’s performance in the Tsaiko combine.
There was a KK at Genji’s?
51- mhomey- ya missed a good costume party.
52- nevah get oysters tho… 🙁 but the Nabeyaki Udon was ono as usual!
53. whoosh!
Anyone beg for beads?
Good job Veikune and Ingram. Go get em Mouton.
Punchbowl
Yes pound for pound goes for everything like that Japanese guy and the hot dogs pound for pound the fastest eater….At this point I’m rooting for anyone who reps the WAC well….Cause everyone knows we get the short end of the stick…Muchas Gracias
I’m anxious to see what Mouton runs tomorrow.
ST – My guess was a 4.5. Hope I’m a few tenths over.
I see the mysterious Powderpuff posted yesterday…
jojo – Is that your sister’s photo in another blog?
i heard that they were 86 on the oysters, i called in advance, thus, my refusal to attend. they could have sold a number of those, let’s see, me, kekoa, lizk, pride., homey, rob25, the list goes on.
if healthy…..i’d say he runs a 4.38 and jumps a 39″ vertical.
al – if anything they could have gone across the street to Times and bought a couple of jars of oysters and at least made some deep fried ones.
Looks like we missed out on some action.
If Mouton isn’t healthy, what numbers do you think he’ll post?
hmmm….then he shouldn’t run if he is not 100% and wait until pro day.
tough decisions. i’ll bet he could still run a 4.5 and leap 34″ with a hammy. but, then again he showed extraordinary recuperative healing abilities during his two years here.
he could be a great late pickup too.
http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=92562
http://hawaii.scout.com/a.z?s=219&p=8&c=1&nid=4157500
Speaking about recuperative healing abilities, what info does your birdie have on Blaze Soares? Good to go? Training in the sand again?
Good weight and reps for Mouton!
I vote homey to win the bench press portion of the Tsaiko combine. He’ll probably bench 225 about 28 times.
I think I would be competitive in the tsaiko throw, I think that I can throw Homey about 28 feet.
18 reps on the bench at 187 pounds is very, very good.
wow….pride. 28 feet is quite an accomplishment.
i wonder what you could do with, um, say midori7 or joje? 45 feet at least.
How far could I throw DPK?
wow….187 with those skinny legs. that is a really great weight for him providing he can still carry it well.
Pride. – PFFFFFFTTTTTT! I’m gonna come into the Tsaiko combine at 175 lbs., same weight as jm####. 225 @ 28 reps is Mr. A-House territory. I’d struggle just to do 28 push-ups.
I’d gladly donate myself to see if you can toss me 28 feet. Been a while since I’ve been tossed. Oops, nevermind, I was tossed out of bed last night…
If mouton can run a good 40, then he may end up being a first day guy. Those scouts just love fast guys.
steelers are not afraid to play undersized db’s. they already have 5 of them 5’10” and shorter.
the pats have 7 guys 5’10” and under.
I was curious so I googled and found this:
http://www.exrx.net/Testing/WeightLifting/BenchStandards.html
Interesting!
dpk….?
could you even get him off the ground?
let alone toss him about.
yup, i was right.
pride.
based upon that scale there is no way you could get him off the ground.
I wouldn’t try and lift DPK, he’d probably get hanabata all over me.
i agree.
if mouton can run a 4.3+ he will be smiling all the way to the bank.
and my guess is that he would give back to the university.
Yes homey, my sister’s pic is posted in another HA blog, with the blog host and Wayne Harada.
The combine 40 times for the WR’s are pretty damn good! Lots of speedsters in that group…but can they catch and run precise routes. Jason, comments?
Way off topic…but did anyone see the names of the contestants for the Cherry Blossom? Gone are the days when all the contestants had a Japanese last name.
jojo – Figured it was her. Have a nice “Lost” week!
Would be nice if Mouton gets drafted by the Steelers! Right (J)J!
Did anyone notice when the system blocks you from posting that it isn’t even your IP address that is listed?
Anyone plan to be in the studio audience for tomorrow’s live broadcast with JD?
good afternoon tsaiko’s. just finally getting around to the light. saturday was really great. 8) needed sunday to recoup glad was sunny cause watching bball in the sun helps with dehydration.
where was da homey? missed out on some good fun!!!!! 😆
what do you know 50% of the contestants have oddah last names that are not Japanese. one of my daughter’s classmate is running this year.
shout out to Frank in the big sand haven. btw can do any barking sand trick out dat way?
veikune with a 4.75 forty and 35 reps at 225, can we all say 1st-2nd round draft pick……………University of Hawaii continues to put out quality fball players with limited resources…….
normally would support what lizK posted but next day had the son quote “oh dad that was yours in the micro”
koakane – Went to Leslie’s place… BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
mauiwarrior – Seems like there is differing times on Veikune’s 40 time but nevertheless, he will be a good pickup for an NFL team!
Hey, my last three posts vanished. Twi-Light Zone?
Howzit mauiwarrior… Keep your head down. There may be flying DPKs in the air if some posters have their way. 😳
BTW, are you coaching football these days? You sure seem to a student of the game.
😯 😯 😉 😯 😯
It’s easier to do a DPK roll than a DPK toss…especially if we are on a steep hill.
ST, Are you attending UH’s Pro Day in early April?
DPK would give me the guillotine choke hold. Knowledge would win out over brawn.
Well, NFL.com is reporting Veikune ran a 4.87. I know I heard the 4.75 time as well — you always have to take reported times with some grains of salt, because they always differ with some serious variance. Either way, he was one of the top 10 defensive linemen in 40 time, bench press, and the 3-cone drill. That is the performance that I really wanted to see from him to solidify his chances. If he ran a consenus 4.75, then I’d be really happy, cause that would help his chances with the 3-4 teams who are looking at him as an OLB.
And yeah, about Ingram, that 40 time was pretty disappointing. I was hoping he’d run around a 4.8. His stock probably didn’t take too much of a hit, but combined with where his weight is at now, teams are going to start questioning a little bit. I still think he’s the top long snapper off the board, though.
And now it’s time for Mouton to shine. He really needs good measurables, he needs to make himself stand out. I’m hoping he’ll do really well.
YPO warrior:
Princess and I will be attending.
100
does princess need someone to help lug the equipment around?
Why are you offering Chawan’s services, al?
I think they call that pimpin’ 😯
Time to Esme…I’m outta here!
Check you guys/girls out later!
Frank25,
Take care of yourself & say Hi to Mark Takai. I got to meet him at the Ching Field dedication. Rob25 has a fun itinerary scheduled for you after LV. You & your charges are in my prayers.

kelli has a good question on her campuslife blog today.
should UH students pay a student fee for tickets to sporting events?
this has been discussed before. but now in this time of economic hurt, uh athletics needs money, but so do all the students.
http://campuslife101.honadvblogs.com/2009/02/23/should-uh-students-pay-an-athletic-fee/
rob25…oh no, for that i would go myself.

Hello ever one… Wish us luck in Vegas…
Hi Momo.
Good Luck!
…..speaking of Vegas (and rubbah slippahs).
Maybe good news for Rob25 and others who enjoy Station Casino’s high-end properties like Red Rock and Green Valley Ranch.
http://bit.ly/n540H
Maybe can walk around in those posh places with shorts and slippahs pretty soon!
I just got this e mail from my nephew who said his best friend’s daughter has Leukemia. She is 11 years old. She expressed and interest in getting mail from afar. If you want to help make this young girl life a little more happier, could you send her a card wishing her well. Her name and address

Thank you for doing this for me…momo

The Boyd’s offer does not include all of Stations Casino’s properties.
The offer excludes those with very high debts.
http://www.lvrj.com/news/breaking_news/40115287.html
Gunfunnit, homey. Lead slippahs right between da eyes. Oh wait, won’t do much good there, nothing in there. 🙂 😈 Better aim lower… mwahahahaha..
Heard Leo Goeas this am with da Animals. He said Samson played this season with a shoulder injury and had surgery in the off-season (bone chip? and labrum tears). I don’t remember hearing about this. Mebbe that’s why he didn’t do so well against some of the bigger NTs.
Just got my H-mail and saw the Colt, Davone and RGM commercial. Pretty neat stuff, hope that gets a few extra tickets sold.
702WarriorNation,
Thanks for the 411.
Smart move by Boyd.
UH should have instituted a student fee a long time ago. Due to the current economic conditions, now might not be the best time. Bad economy or not, this will help Donovan balance the budget whether in both good and bad times.
702WN,
btw, was talking to las vegas about my upcoming trip to at the end of March. Hopefully a Vegas cc can be worked out 🙂
Hey, ST. That’s totally not fair. You know how misty eyed and chicken skinned I get when I hear your nut clampin’ sweet falsetto rendition of “About You.”
My nuts don’t clamp anymore … not since the Low dance.
d1-Let me know when you have your travel plans firmed,
look forward to cc.
Local news reported that Station will refuse the unsolicited Boyd offer. Unfortunate for Station’s bond holders who will appear to only get pennies on $ under Station’s proposed chapter 11 prepackaged bankruptcy plan.
Will be interesting if they nix the proposal and force the Fertitta brothers to look seriously at Boyd’s offer.
d1:
For years, A-House has walked in all the fancy casinos with bermuda shorts, t-shirt, and rubba slippahs. We, of course, distance ourselves from him.
Football team is going to stay in Summerlin, near one of the Station properties.
More proof that if you want to play in the NFL and you have the talent to do so… THEY WILL FIND YOU.
Just because you go to SC doesn’t automatically get you in… Well.. Maybe the ones that also turn into FLOPS!!! 😆 ***cough cough*** …Sanchez … ***cough cough***
Mrs. A-House
Guess I would be dress as formal since I wear my running shoes(no slippa- bad for my back) with shorts/tee. Maybe not, since sometimes it’s stinky especially if I don’t wear socks. Hmmm, maybe thats why boss walks like I’m not there and no hold hand.
ST
Summerlin only has Station Red Rock Casino.
However close vicinity to Summerlin is the Sun Coast and Rampart Casinos.
ST~”I’m Interested” please.
Even though they beat my Card’s…Mouton would be a great pickup for the Steel city. I kind of hope he gets steered to Arizona somehow.
If Fresno State can get supposedly 4 million dollars from their student body then we can do better than what we are already doing.
ESPECIALLY since our basketball team (men’s), volleyball (wahine) team, and football team are MUCH MUCH better than theirs… 🙂
This is where Nalani’s been……
http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/20090223/BREAKING05/90223063
Corey Nielsen seems to be able to travel pretty freely between here and the mainland.
Hope he is staying on track in school.
702WN,
Flts already set. Will be sure to mention to las vegas to get the word out as the date draws nearer.
d1 – Ok.
ST – hope the team doesn’t stay at Red Rock- too many distractions especially at the Cherry night club which I hear really rocks.
The other 2 casinos I mentioned near Summerlin caters especially to local seniors/retirees so could be extreme boredom for the team if they are at Sun Coast or Rampart.
Doesn’t Coach Mac own a house in Summerlin?
702WarriorNation,
Are you and the Mrs. free for dinner on Saturday? Momo, Mrs. Momo, Lori, the kids and I will be in town and would love to set up a mini-CC. I don’t know if LV will be back in time and recovered from his trip, but I’m sure he’ll let us know if he’s available.
Ryan Mouton benching 225 pounds 18 times is excellent. His 40 time is even more important for his NFL draft rating.
The 2 highest rated offensive tackles (Eugene Monroe and Michael Oher) are expected to be drafted in the top 12 picks or so in the draft and both weigh 309 pounds while Mouton weighs 187…but Monroe only benched it 23 times and Oher only benched it 21 times!
So, Mouton almost matched the bench press reps of one of the top OL in the draft!
Unfortunately for Mouton, a lot of the CBs that he’s being compared with did an amazing job at the Combine, beating his 18 reps. In fact, a bunch of athletes benched 225 at least 22 times…including a kicker!

I’ve been calling for years for a student fee for UH Athletics, which would include free admission to games…that would hopefully encourage student attendance, as some people go to games because they are “free” for them. At least that was the case at Texas, and I’ve read lots of articles that indicate students attend the games more if they do not have to pay out any additional money to attend because they have already paid a fee.
Trouble is, adding a fee right now is tough. Too bad HF wasn’t proactive about this…

Scientists might have found a treatment that works against the bird flu *and* most strains of the seasonal flu! They hope to make a vaccine that prevents the bird flu and the regular strains of the flu…no more annual flu shots! All virus strains have the peptide machinery, so if a vaccine can target that then it could eliminate all viruses!
Nuclear waste is piling up at US hospitals. Without a way to track and inspect the multitude of locations that have nuclear waste, they are worried that the containers with nuclear waste will accidentally or on purpose show up on eBay, flea markets, or be sent to landfills or metal recycling plants. We currently have millions of radioactive devices in use with no long-term plan to dispose of them…in the past 10 years, 4,363 radioactive sources have been lost, stolen or abandoned.
Momo- GOOD LUCK
and thanks for the 411 on Leah. I will write. Loveland- what a nice name for a town!
14-year-old girl was arrested when she refused to stop text messaging in her math class. I hate that students are text messaging in class now, but don’t see why the police had to be called in–couldn’t standard discipline be used? The student was suspended from school for a week and was caught sneaking into school twice during the suspension.
Be careful when using your cell phone or wireless card to surf the web when when you are docked on a cruise ship, even if you are at a US port! This guy was on a cruise ship that was docked in Miami and watched a Chicago Bears game before they set sail, where his AT&T phone wasn’t even in roaming mode…and AT&T hit him with a $27,789 bill for that wireless session!
corey nielsen is at the head of the class. #1 out of the entire school. he probably is onlhy taking ballroom dancing and advanced pe.
Republicans are pushing a bill to force all internet providers and WiFi access point providers (even coffee shops and home users!) to keep records about user’s web surfing for two years! Every home with a WiFi access point, even those that have password protection? Every hotel? How are they going to make that feasible for users that barely can install plug-and-play APs? Some Democrats tried this 3 years ago, so this bill unfortunately has support from elements of both parties…the idea might be nice in theory, but I think that in practice it would raise costs significantly and possibly end free WiFi from coffee shops and other locations and turn millions of citizens with WiFi APs into criminals.

This is for SteveM:
Royal Caribbean has the only mega-ship stationed on the West Coast, offering 7-day cruises to Mexico. This ship has 50% more rooms than any other ship in the West Coast, which means that they have a lot of rooms to sell and hopefully there will be great cruise deals!
http://www.usatoday.com/travel/cruises/item.aspx?type=blog&ak=63106431.blog
This guy went on that mega-ship and blogged about it with some nice photos:

Garret:
Thanks for all your interesting posts. I don’t post very often, but I want to let you know that I and I’m sure many others, enjoy the many tid bits of information that you find and share. Much Mahalo!
Although it seems like we can say, shame on those two tackles for appearing to be weak compared to a few other athletes that were tested. Some of those tackles have a trait which may be positive on the one hand but a disadvantage on the other. That is arm length, and wingspan. A long wingspan may be great when trying to hold off a defender, but may put you at a disadvantage when trying to go heavy on the bench press. We need to take that into consideration.
When you get hit by a 300 pound man running a 5.0 flat 40, it’s not going to matter how much he can bench. It’ll hurt.
Pride hit it on the head. As long as they can bench press enough, I don’t care if the offensive linemen hit 40 or 50. I’ll take 21 reps and long arms with quick feet any day.
Okay, back to studying for my test. I mean, time to start studying for my test. Which is in a little less than 12 hours. 😀
RE: #142
Garret– I’ve noticed a ship’s wireless signals are pretty strong considering the amount of steel they have to go through…and the multiple base stations are in roaming configuration. But I would inquire if the game is available in the ship’s sports bar. You would be amazed at what they can pull in–just have see if they are willing to show it… 😉
e.f. pride.
spoken like a true ex-offensive tackle. that is something perhaps only one who has been there and done that could speak to.
then A house and homey ought to lift about 30+ with their arm length..
what was i volunteered for?
Re: #146
Garret — interesting news that RC is positioning the Mariner for the Mexico market. I notice they will be sailing out of Los Angeles on Sept. 20 while Peaches and I will be sailing out of San Francisco.
I have never been on a Mariner-size ship, which is 50% wider than most that fit in the Panama Canal. This one is 3 football fields long (including end zones) and very close in WIDTH. Good one to go on.
The one we will be on is much smaller — barely 3 fields long without end zones 🙂
BTW — share your future and past cruises with fellow Tsai-kos at…
http://home.roadrunner.com/~smurashi/tsai-kos/cruisers.html
…see who has been where and what ship and who might be able to give tips on certain ports you plan to visit.
Pride,
I agree with what you said, of course. However, those tackles will be compared with others at the combine at their position that did much better. They still will be drafted high, but they will have extra scrutiny right now.
The whole point of this process for NFL scouts is to try to poke holes and tear down each potential draft pick. They look for flaws and knock down anyone who has them. Then, in the last week or so they build players back up. Unfortunately for Colt, they kept poking at some issues (weight, system, etc.) and he was recovering from surgery before the draft and couldn’t meet with teams or show them that he was healthy.
c_c
it was a mistake. i told princess l. that if she needed someone to lug around her camera while at the uh pro day that i would do it. rob25 thought that i was volunteering your services.
we leave next week. disneyland should be fun.
The other thing to point out is that I’m really hoping that Mouton runs a fast time, as there were a lot of other CBs at the combine that benched more than him–at least a dozen, he’s probably in the midpoint or below on the bench press at his position. They have height and the bench press on their side…but Mouton will hopefully have the edge in speed.
Personally, I think that the bench press is overrated for CBs. However, scouts use everything to downgrade draft picks and Mouton needs a good 40 time to sway them.
Haleakala,
Thank you very much for the kind words. Are you in Maui? I’ve been to Haleakala a lot of times since we spent every summer and Christmas break growing up in Kula.
SteveM,
I guess that guy was using his laptop to connect to his home DVR, so he could fast forward through commercials. I love watching sporting events that way, no commercial breaks to break up the game.
SteveM,
I’ve never been on a ship the size of that Royal Caribbean ship out of LA–it will be doing those 7-day cruises for a long time out of LA so maybe someday I’ll have a chance to go on it. Royal Caribbean is also bringing a new ship to San Diego for 5-day cruises to Mexico.

al,

…and with Ralph’s even shorter arms he could do 40+ reps. 😆
re: tackles, it’s all about the quick feet, the sturdy base, the leg strength, and the balance.
Whatever the case 225 lbs. is fricken heavy!
chawan_cutAl — I’m beginning to worry about you….😐

Goodnight C(c) and G!

Kelli’s blog has an interesting topic on athletic fees at the UH…Kazz, Jason and chawan were three of the respondents…Leahy asked JD about fees at sunday’s bb game and I’m sure someone will chime in tomorrow chat with JD….
Hiya!
You have probably seen this before, but I haven’t until just now. Here’s to all who have lived the challenge of raising kids who are different.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r93vABC1M7A
am i imagining this?
didn’t the university have a student fee of $16.25 back in the day that allowed you to get tickets to the athletic events that no one attended. that would have been every sport back then. i remember picking up the tix at the student center (where incidently, they served beer).
Reading the NFL combine results today one analyst pointed out that for interior linemen explosives is key. Taking the total of the reps in the bench press, vertical jump and standing broad jump– a number near 70 is very good.
For example:
Veikune had 35 reps in the bench press and adding to what he did in the vertical and broad jump totals above 70 then that would be very good. Finding results of how he did in the other events was hard to find as I post. Top ten results at his position the NFL Combine. com allows me to see, other than the top ten results I can’t see (they wanted me to sign up and pay…ha, ha..no). It just like the site (or NFL is so proprietary over the results…but it’s easy to see why they limit all the results as they want people to subscribe and pay to see all the results). The site says he did a high 4.8 40 and 7.20 L-Drill, which are not eye popping numbers. Other DE last year for example did a lot lower in the 40 and L-Drill.
This is an excellent site
http://www.nfldraftscout.com/searchcollege.php?draftyear=2008&colabbr=A
This site allows you to keep track of your favorite college football team’s NFL prospects dating back to 1999. It gives data of personal info–along with combine results.
As a comparison look at the numbers Travis Laboy put up in the 2005 combine
bench-225×35
vertical-35.5
broad jump-10′ 6”
total-81
This is huge-add on a 4.69 40 time and a 7.01 3 cone drill and it’s easy to see that these numbers caught the eyes of the NFL scouts.
Looking at Issac Sopanga 42 reps and Wayne Hunters 37 reps in the bench press and Travis and Veikunes numbers in bench press (even Chads 23 is impressive) tells me that the boys are really dedicating themselves in the weight room. A lot of credit may be due to the ones overlooking the strength and conditioning.
On the local high school scene I was looking at a high school combine results from last summer (PIAA combine) and there was this one 10th grader from Punahou that caught my eye. Listed as a LB/DB his numbers… height, weight, 40 time, vertical, broad jump
are probably catching some recruiter’s eye.
transferred from the “prep talk”
on another note…..
don’t look now, but, here come the kaimuki bulldogs (again!).
its the boys basketball playoffs and once again the dogs are in the house. this is becoming habit forming.
back in the 90’s ray fujino led the bulldogs in to the playoffs and the states. he virtually willed them from obscurity.
and now comes kelly grant another great one by the time he retires. folks don’t realize the challenge it is to bring out the best in these kids from the kaimuki boundaries. they have to not only teach them the game, but also how to become good students and citizens.
my hats off to fujino and now grant. i hope soon that these two great men are recognized not only by their peers but by this entire state.
…nuff said.
A super Happy Fat Tuesday morning to everyone!
Difficult to believe it is already Mardi Gras.
I don’t know if this was posted yet but check out the link below to see clips of David Veikune’s 35 reps of the 225 bench press.
http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d80ee131e
NOTE: USC’s Rey Maualuga did 23 and Brian Cushing did 30
Wishing the Warriors well at the combine!
Go Warriors!!!
Good Morning Tsaiko Ohana!…It’s officially Mardi Gras season I guess.
Happy Rat Tuesday Al from the manager of Camillia!
He wants a head count for the next cc. Needs to know how many mountain rats to order.
He heard commodity prices on the farm bred mountain rats are much higher than the ‘other’ white meat. I think he may slip some city rats in on us. I’ll call on our resident food expert out in Foster Village for a ruling.
Speaking of farm bred. Who thought up the name *Combine?*
Really makes me think of our kids as livestock commodities up for bid. Closer to a meat market mentality. Why not just stick with calling it what it is…NFL Tryouts!…there, now was that hard?
Happy Trails to Las Vegas and his betrothed as they journey back to the land of Oz today.
Thanks for the warm memories! I have to admit, as a rookie listener to your style of singing, I was favorably impressed. It took me way beyond “Row-row-row your boat” in 4 part harmony, that’s for sure!
Ok my CBOT market trades are locked in, time to go back to bed. bbl…
I’m interested in the yivkryd unless it’s too late to enter.
Whoops!
I’m interested in the TICKETS.
Whoa, Wassup Doc – how you been doing?? Haven’t seen you around in a while

Hi Ho!

ty for the link.
i don’t know if it’s just me, but i see most of the boys doing full bench pressess, like veikune. Up and down arms fully extended . To me this seems would be the honest type of bench press, and harder to do. I saw others, like rey Maualuga do their bench presses and it seems like there’s are easier to do because when they bring the weights up and down their arms aren’t fully extended. I wish a weight coach seeing this clip would comment.
Garret,
yr 133- yes, will send you email.
Good morning Tsaikos everyhwhere.
roysan16
thanks for the info.
been busy.
esme wooooosshhhh >>>>>>>>>
Garret: A belated reply to your question about where I am from. Yes, I am from Wailuku, Maui. I see Haleakala everyday from my lanai and living room. It sounds like you also have ties on Maui. Kula is a beautiful place to live and to visit.
Good Morning All!
Interesting article regarding everybody’s favorite UH coach:
http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/20090224/NEWS01/902240348
Perhaps the truth will set us free…
Haleakala,
SteveM will be happy to add you to our neighbor island Tsaiko list!
My Dad is from Kula so we stayed with his Mom every summer and winter vacation. Such a beautiful place and I have friends and relatives all over Maui, including Wailuku.
UH plays Washington State early in the season, so could be important that their expected starting QB will miss Spring Practice due to injury. Now that QB is suspended for underage drinking. Being found drunk at the police station?
kekoa….in nearly every asian country the rodents are served in a wide variety of ways.
i would bet that not a single restaurant in hawaii is without one of them varmints.
how many homes are without such?
Zero rats up here. 😉
The MWC is *not* helping the other non-BCS conferences, probably because they want to join the BCS! This is a problem because there are already more teams in the BCS conferences than the non-BCS conference teams in D-IA…so, if the MWC supports the BCS then the BCS has a significant majority of votes in D-IA.
One thing that the article doesn’t mention is that the MWC is the only D-IA conference that did not sign the new BCS contract that runs through 2014. They are really setting themselves up to put pressure on the BCS to add them!
As much as UH fans like to complain about the BCS, it should be noted that Karl Benson and the WAC *signed* the BCS contract that runs through 2014. This apparently happened a few months ago.
The WAC’s position is that the BCS is fine the way it is I guess (they signed the BCS deal), and that the MWC shouldn’t be added as a BCS conference. The WAC is *not* arguing that it should be added as a BCS conference if the MWC is added (or in place of the MWC)…
Of course BSU supports the BCS…they want to join the MWC in the BCS.
I guess the article did mention that the MWC didn’t agree to the new BCS agreement. Since the WAC Presidents did agree, I guess Pres. McClain is okay with the BCS like it is right now.
roysan16 – I’m not a bench press expert but it looks like bouncing that bar off of your chest is also an advantage. (J)J would know.
Also, it seems that stopping the bar 1 inch before your chest then pushing it back up makes benching harder to do. Again, (J)J would know…or Jason.
Bolla just doesn’t learn. He needs a timeout or taught a good lesson.
New blog.
Mouton’s agent on 1420 and he mentions that he hurt his hammy during the 40.
Mouton is going to be running soon!
BHF2- Who is Sean Kekamakupa’a Lee Loy Browne?
Mouton ran a 4.48 and pulled the hammy pretty bad…looks to be done for the day. He pulled it towards the end so he was flying…
Dangit, Mouton- He knew the odds, he took the chance. HEAL!!!
al- #200. That’s why we have cats now.
m-homey – #208 – where?
MLiz – gigi’s blog! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Great Morning All!

Tough to hear about Mouton re-injuring that hammy 🙁
All I can say is….(drumroll, please)

Good morning Tsaikoville and Happy Fat Tuesday!
al- dogu 😈
a-joe… bad, bad Lee Loy Browne 😆
Mouton did well in the vertical. Tied for #3 with 39.5″. He also was #3 in the broad jump with 10’9″.
Mouton needs to heal up.
air lift suspension…
town car and I really love it, but the rear air suspension went out, and now I am… hey, alot of limo’s pop air bags and burn out compressors…
