Chut Yo Moutt
Princess Leila reports that Chut Yo Moutt won today’s Super Games relay race.
Each player had to place his head on the bottom of the handle of a baseball bat, run five times around in one direction, then five times around in the other direction, then sprint to a marker 10 yards away and then back to the starting line.
Rocky Savaiigaea’s Chut Yo Mouttt team won in 2 minutes, 40 seconds.
Team members are Vaughn Meatoga, Richard Torres, Matagisila Lefiti, Kenny Estes, Billy Ray Stutzmann, Alema Tachibana, Jett Jasper, Joey Cadiz, Joeseph Malabuyoc, Steven Rodenhurst.

June Jones called to say that Texas A&M is looking into canceling an agreement in which the Aggies and SMU were to play a four-game series. A&M would have to pay a lot of money in penalties, Jones said.
“That should help set up an SMU-Hawaiβi series,” Jones said.

More than 1,500 people attended the Barefoot League’s anniversary block party this past Saturday.
Among the attendees were Colt Brennan, Davone Bess, Ryan Grice-Mullins, Wayne Hunter, Timmy Chang, Chad Owens, Hauoli Wong, Chris Fuamatu-Maafala, Maa Tanuvasa, Vince Manuwai, Natasha Kai, Konishki, Leonard Peters, Troy Polamalu, James Farrier and Ryan Clark.
The former UH players weren’t supposed to sign autographs, but they did so, anyway. Before leaving, Colt actually went down a long line, signing autographs.
Here’s Polamalu:

Larry Farmer and Bobbie Omoto work in the second-floor conference room while the coaches’ offices are being repaired:
Why were the former UH players NOT supposed to sign autographs?? Doesn’t make sense.
If JD can’t get SMU, why not Texas A&M?
Good morning!
Hawaii vs SMU … set it up!
Damn…. I thought that you were going to say Texas A&M wants to come play Hawaii instead.
Stephen … any news on the possible new coaches? Looking forward to seeing who MAC is bringing onboard.
top 10
If UH plays SMU, they should wait 4 years. JJ played a lot of young players this past season so in a few years, they should be a lot better than they performed this past season.
Top Ten!
If we play JJ, I hope we win by 50. π
Good morning Tsaikos! Top 10?
UH vs. SMU is an inevitability. Who’s gonna SMU who?
Whew, barely. I wish I could have been at Barefoot League’s block party. After the CC in January that’s where I went to add to my collection of BL shirts. I love their designs.
I can see it now…Mack laying the smackdown on JJ and the mustangs
Morning, Gang,
Finally back home, good things keep happening.
I wouldn’t mind an SMU series, should be interesting. The old vs the new, bring it on.
My life is over…I bombed out on a sports trivia question on Bob Hogue’s show a few minutes ago. Now I’ll never ever know the feeling of wearing his last Pac West T-shirt…(tsai).
I don’t see the big deal playing JJ and SMU. It doesn’t excite me at all. Plus, they are the only ones that will benefit. We need to schedule big name teams and SMU is not one of them.
Forget the “I love Hawaii…let’s play so we can recruit your athletes” sales pitch.
Now, A&M would be great!
Don’t understand why everyone wants to play SMU? What does Hawaii have to gain from a game with them?
A&M would be great. And if they back out, UH makes money.
Honestly, playing SMU is simply for entertainment purposes only. It doesn’t help us forward our program.
We should be using those open slots to play bigger programs that can garner us notoriety and respect.
Anyway- gmornin’ Tsaikz!
By the way, it looks like Sun God is trying to get to the West Coast. His wife got a job at Stanford.
kekoa- was that you?
I say no to SMU and yes to A&M if possible. SMU is going to ask for a lot of money from us and I don’t see it as being worth the game.
So what’s stronger in the Sun God; his love for his wife? Or loyalty to JJ?
Sack by one handed Joe Correia sitting on the turf hands pointed up in victory!!!!
I need to find that VHS tape of the game.
SMU SMU!
SMU SMU!
SMU SMU!
Go Warriors!
Go Warriors!
Go Warriors!
π
π
π
Good morning Tsai-kos!!
Top 20??
While I wouldn’t mind playing SMU – it would be a big draw as long as JJ is there – it doesn’t do much to add to UH’s SoS, just bragging rights as to who the better mid-major is. Just like playing BYU or Utah. The BCS don’t wanna come here to play. They make way more money staying home and have no shortage of teams that want to play them. If A&M is willing to pay substantial penalties to get out of playing a game, that’s what, a couple of hours’ bus ride away, what makes you think they’d be willing to endure an 8 hour plane ride? I personally hope to never see another Big 10 crybaby in Aloha Stadium again during the regular season.
*stepping off the soap box*
Gotta go do some work. Back to lurking.
Top Churdee!
SMU SMU! No need! Fry biggah Feesh!
Mmmm…papaya!
Good fo’ clean tings out…make room fo’ mo’ π
need the video of the games today. must’ve been hilarious.
remember, these guys are still young men. gotta have fun. can’t be all serious.
Mental note:
Never whine in front of of Jm2375 again.
Chawan:
Your girlfriend shot video.
Then she called in the results.
Does it help if you’re already used to walking around “dizzy” in that baseball bat relay?
A-Joe:
I think Sun God answered that question when he went to SMU while his wife remained in Honolulu.
π
So today is another “Fun Day” for lakerj32 (aka lefty)?
Correia is also part of the trivia question: How many former starting Saint Louis quarterbacks played Division I football at the same time?
Answer: Four (Darnell Arceneaux, Jason Gesser, Timmy Chang and Joe Correia)
Correia also played on that Pearl City team that went to the Little League World Series.
Speakin’ of Bob Hogue, I saw him out on the courts up here at Pu’owaena yesterday evening, getting into some neighborhood pick up games. I give braddah credit, he’s out there wif da youngsters playin’ full court. I went up to say hi.
Did I mention that Bob Nash’s daughter, Erica, will earn her PhD in May. She already has accepted a teaching position at the University of San Diego.
I coulda answered that!
DPK:
You didn’t challenge him to a game of 1 on 1?
Wasn’t Joe Corrreia a D end at UH IIRC? He was one of my favorite players in that era. Interestingly enough, I have also seen HIM here at the Pu’owaena courts.
Top o’ da morning tsaikos!!
Yo yo…looks like we got some playas in the secondary. Tank and L-Train! Why we still calling da guy Sun God? He’s GONE! How about … Sun Man…or Sun Guy….or Sun Pahtnah!
DPK,
Don’t call him out to 1 on 1! π
I noticed LD’s tats. I hope not, but did something happen to his sister?
Tsai, that would be Youtube material. I have a hard enough time shooting baskets alone, nevermind with a lumbering human who has some BBall skills. I limit my court activities to fast paced waddling around the court when nobody’s looking.
So Rocky’s an Isaac Hayes fan?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAa5rP64YbQ&feature=related
nice to see you list Lametrius as a “safety/cornerback.” i hope im not reading too much into things, id like to see him at safety.
Good man that JJ still thinking about Hawaii. Getting SMU to schedule UH should ease the scheduling burdon for JD. So many D1 programs afraid to come here. Even ones who think they should be number one in the country. I would rather see UH play D1 team than D2. And it would be a fun game to watch.
Actually, Glanville is the one who gave him that name.
After practices, Reinebold would take off his shirt and stretch out on the grass, doing something that resembled yoga.
When Glanville was asked about a defensive coverage, he’d smile, and say: Why don’t you ask Sun God over there?
D1- That much we know! π That big boy can still play! π
letsgowarriors:
He’s about 195, he said.
Actually, I asked him where he was being used. He said in JC he was a boundary corner (playing on the narrow side). He said he’ll work out at both corner and free safety this spring.
Re: #43.
What about Sun of a B….
theperfectseason:
He also has some writings on his back.
I was going to ask, but then I thought I really shouldn’t be looking at another man’s chest.
Who’s picture is on LDs chi chi?
Morning Tsaikos!
No need play SMU.
Joe Correia! What a play, what a game!
GO ROCKY’S TEAM!!!
Stephen,
So the players are allowed unfettered access to the new turf now?
YPO:
That’s pretty funny.
Mental notes:
β’ Never whine in front of of Jm2375 again.
β’ Never stare at another man’s chest.
β’ Never have a goofy nickname and then leave Hawaiβi.
Hi midori7!
d1ε³Ά:
As long as they book in advance.
Unlike last week, when Shane Austin said the players were kicked off the field … a day after the unveiling ceremony.
What is “fettered” access?
Ask the NFA!
I’m looking in the dictionary, and under “front-runner” there’s a picture of Midori7 …
We should have our own Super Games.
β’ We chug a beer, then try to read a sentence (Koakane is favored).
β’ We try to center labels on glass ware (UHfan808 is not favored).
β’ Lamest excuse for making an 8-second appearance on a blog (Esme is favored).
thanks stephen. lametrius has good size. i like his versatiliy and recruiting ability.
I wonder what other meanings are there for Midori7 in the dictionary?
Tank looks like a lightweight.
Oh yeah, Super Tsai’s Games. I’m in!
homey,
I hope Tank trains really hard before he takes on any welterweights…
On paper it looks like there are going to speed, quickness, and big hits in the secondary this upcoming season.
When would the UH-SMU series start??? I have a feeling that JJ will be gone before then. Just a hunch…
Don’t forget UH still has some DB recruits from last year who either redshirted or played sparingly:
Jeramy Bryant
Steve Christian
Chris Black
Lewis Walker
Kawika Ornellas
YPO:
He wants it to start in 2010.
As other posters have mentioned it makes no sense for us to play SMU. Can you imagine how many local or American Samoa recruits JJ could get by saying that SMU will play in Hawaii twice in four years? Let’s not make things any easier for SMU.
SMU and A&M are both D-1 schools. It looks better if we play either than some AA school.
There is some thought that we should play giants. I suggest that it is somewhat like Chaminade in basketball. A Virginia, perhaps, but that is once in a lifetime; the rest of the time it just looks bad, if not discouraging.
I do not suggest playing the Little Sisters of the Poor but let’s not get into a bunch of mismatches until we get to the point where our budget, personnel, depth can assure us that we are not in a horrible mismatch.
Just my 2 cents.
ST, Was SMU recruiting in Hawaii this past season? I didn’t see any recruits from Hawaii (except for the kid from Samoa).
Who cares whether we play SMU. In fact why even consider it.
d1 – I’m sure the other team doesn’t put vaseline on their jerseys.
I’d rather the Warriors play SMU then Central Arkansas or Charleston Southerns of the football world.
vaseline, lol…
Oh great, work from the top of a golf cart roof to assist putting up a goal post. Would OSHA see this as a violation? π
Speaking of violation, throw the peanut processing owner in prison…stupid.
Yeah, I think ST should remove that pic.
Or make him eat the peanuts.
By the way, Favre announced he’s quitting again.
And did you guys see that story on Roberto Alomar?
Hey owen-16, you going to see the MMA guys at Ala Moana this Saturday? I heard there are going to be a log of screaming female fans there! π
ST – #58 – I can whine with the best of them!! π
Gotta go look for the Alomar story now…
hows bryant’s knee? i expect big things from him this season.
Whiners are so irritating.
Wow, Alomar was one of my favorites. Gotta see how this story develops.
Alomar story:

Bryant is going to be OK.
He was running around yesterday.
homey – hmmm, they had to do that thing on 2/14, kinda sucks, i mean even do it on sunday might’ve been a better option w/ monday being a holiday. oh wells, maybe i’ll be lucky e-nuf to c some highlights on the news. what you think of BJ in the summer, me thinks he should just stick to the 155’s, i mean he’s got no realistic shot (unless he gets lucky)when GSP balloons to 185 and he stays around 168, almost a 20 lb difference, too tough to overcome. i’ll cheer him on anyway but that’s rough…and to see that he only takes away $1 million from a fight that must’ve brought in at leat 60 million, that’s a crime.
ST – thanks for another link.
owen-16 – I say defend the 155 against Florian and maybe at the end of the year have the BJ vs GSP III.
Didn’t he only take in $125,000?
smu – good for the gate should be sellouts. it would certainly be one of those we must win at all costs. great for recruiting since we stomp the same grounds; samoa, hawaii, texas, west coast. easy access on a charter flight going direct to dallas is better than la tech.
other non bcs opponents i’d like to see – byu is our natural “rival” has been and will be forever. utah a great matchup with another top notch ex-wac member. both of these would be recruiting wars as well.
pac-10 – well we get em once a year. another would be great.
unlv – just an excuse to go up there to play every year.
how about some big 12 teams?
someone reported that bj got an additional 1 million as part of his share of the ppv monies.
125 for the actual fight, and a percentage of the PPV and other promotional stuff adds it up to $1 mil, but that’s still less than 2% of ppv sales, who knows what DW made off of merchandise and other stuff
Not to mention a few bucks from his sponsors and some spending money for doing the pre-fight mini-series.
owen-16 – Also, the big money the billionaire Fertitta brothers made!
Too bad the DW and Tito Ortiz boxing match never too place.
No Super Games video yet?
SteveM – So who was the Rocker that sat next to Peaches?
hey stevem there’s a two wk cruise for $399.
not sure how long the HI bowl contract is w/ the pac10, but gonna be kinda ironic if the 2 years we get em, no more enough pac 10 teams to qualify. next year’s gonna be even tougher than this year w/ us having what the 7th team, yikes. w/ that being said, hows about oregon since they ain’t afraid to play boise or utah for that matter. how about ucla or arizona, kinda want to see that too. our kids are gonna go to these schools whether we play them or not, so we might as well play em, could be wrong though…
ST:
That’s an impressive time of 2 minutes and 40 seconds for 10 guys to complete the task.
Any “time” and who were the 2nd and 3rd place teams?
ST:
What about home n home with SMU and Texas Tech over the same 4 years?
It would be difficult to get the BCS schools from the midwest and east to come and play Hawaii.
Try go and see how many Jade and Hawaiian Bracelets you can find in the entire line. π
al:
my travel calendar says going to Boulder, CO in 2010.
Isn’t Colorado a member of the Big 12?
Is it just me or does Kurt Warner look like Rich Miano?
On my flight back from Cali, Natasha Kai was seated by me. When we landed a large Polynesian man behind me was looking for his hand carry on bag. It was a few rows back. A tourist dude offered to get it but was told the bag was kinda heavy. Natasha picked it up with one hand and passed it over saying, “Here brah.” Note in her hand was a ukulele and her own carry on.
Classic moment…… π
BTW did you all catch Natasha on LAInk with Kat Von D.?
Kazz – I got firsthand info that there are going to be some of Esme’s Moms there.
Kazz – I wouldn’t mistake Kurt for Rich or vice versa, but that’s just me.
BW96744 – Saw her on LA Ink. I’d like to get a portrait done by Kat Von D, she is a very good portrait tattooist.
Whoosh
YEA Rocky and da Kauai Boyz!!!!
whoosh
Hi, bye MLiz…
chawan_cut forget the vhs, I’ll get you the game on dvd.
Stephen, so the Princess is now aka CC’s GF?
Kawika Ornellas seems like a great guy with a bright future at DB
Saw a dude kicking last week. Wasn’t IceCube so I assumed it was St John Lessary
BW96744 – Where/when did you see him kicking? I thought SJL is still in high school?
former HS QB’s on defense (since ’99)?
Joe Corriea, Kevin Jackson, Chad Kapanui, Omega Hogan, Matt Manuma, Lamar Broadway, Richard Torres…
I know I’m missing a few more
What about Steve Stepter?
Homey you are correct… Maybe it was the kicker from Wyoming
Bronson Liana.
BigWave,
Was he kicking or “punting”?
ST —
If you’re too hilahila to query (pun intended) LD about his tats, maybe you could get the Princess to volunteer for the job.
As much as june jones did for the hawaii program, I don’t like it was right for him to leave. He really let the entire state of Hawaii down
Good morning everyone!
I have a cold again…gonna stay home all week to get better for the 21st. Only 10 days away.
homey — that rocker sitting next to Peaches was Mrs. Long Time UH Fan! Next in line was Peaches’ daughter. I couldn’t see them too well from the back, but Peaches confirmed your observations. π
Wow– OK, you buy the airfare and I’ll join you. Can we squeeze in Pride. too at 30%? π
ahouse….aware of the colorado game. i just want more big12 teams on a regular basis.
i am getting hungry. i guess i’ll go look for a place to have lunch?
any suggestions?
stephen,
i have a gf now? wow, i really am slow. i didn’t even know it!
al – why don’t you go makino??
Got it SteveM.
al – If I was to go out with you guys for lunch today I would pick a buffet place that doesn’t require you to cook your own food. π
chawan – If it’s any consolation I have at least a few things in common with you. For one, I just adore the Princess, like many others here do.
consolation?
The vid for the Super Games relay race is up now.
al:
agree with you on more Big 12 teams.
teams like Texas Tech ( nearly same offense, but maybe more talented players ), Oklahoma, Texas, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska.
i remember going to Honolulu Stadium and watching Oklahoma, Nebraska, USC and like powers where the coach played their 1st team well into the 4th qtr and walked away with a victory, but not a blow out.
faced with such talent, UH players “played with a lot of heart” cause they were smaller, lighter, and slower than their opponents – hope our current Warriors and all future Warrios to be can play with such heart and passion
one thing that escapes many is that Hawaii is relatively a “young” school playing in a full college schedule compared to others who have nearly a century or more of experience – was it AD Paul Duram(sp) that started it?
at least the guys are able to use THEIR field now.
Did we ever get word if Gary Nagy is enrolled at UH?
was there a video for the dodgeball super game last week? did i miss it? was i too slow again?
That picture of Tank Hopkins — is it me or does it look like his shoes don’t fit? He’s just standing there and it looks like his shoes are loose and he’s overpronating. I’m not sold on UA for shoes. We aren’t going to get to the next level in shoes that don’t support the arches.
Lava:
I don’t think we’re going to debate the size of a man’s feet.
Looks like the boys are having fun, so did I, watching the video.
About scheduling SMU:
I don’t mind SMU on the schedule so as long as it’s in lieu of an FCS (1-AA) team. It’s not that I hold SMU is such low regards, as I think they have a chance of getting better over the years, but I personally would rather play SMU than teams like Charleston Southern or some Sisters of the Poor institution (no disrespect intended to those smaller schools).
Now if we have both SMU and a 1-AA on the schedule the same year, that comes off as serious dilution of the schedule unless the Mustangs are gonna be “that good” when we play them.
I think we should be going after low- to middle-tier BCS schools that match up well with UH and try to get home-and-home with them; perhaps throwing in the occasional powerhouse here and there. I’m talking teams like Vanderbilt, Baylor, NCSU and half of the Big East. Most of those schools have no qualms with us going to their house, it’s just that we have to convince them to come to Honolulu which is the problem.
I didn’t even notice that until you pointed it out.
Just going by on that his right foot looks like in that photo, those cleats look like they hurt more than help.
Maryland, Utah, Texas Tech, Auburn, South Carolina, etc… they ALL better have the same problems… Unless Hawaii is getting the short end of the stick… AGAIN!
Article about Saddleback mentions Colt and AC.
Pretty cool that when they talk about receivers in the NFL draft they use Bess as someone successful in the NFL to compare the receiver to.
Article about a UH track recruit–sounds like a good athlete!
Under Armour sucks at shoes. They should just stick to moisture wicking apparel.
Nike, Adidas, even New Balance football cleats are superior to UA.
do we really give a hoot about all these extra articles of spam?
Article about how some bowl games might not survive this economic downturn. It is good that the Hawaii Bowl has the backing of ESPN and Sheraton.
I think bowls are costly, anyway.
The mandatory hotel stays. The bonuses. The prizes. Don’t many schools lose money going to lower-paying bowls?
how many out of state Notre Dame fans actually came to the bowl this year? thats something to consider. ND is one the big name schools with many boosters and fans. if they couldn’t bring a lot of fans during this economic situation, it might not look good if Hawaii wasn’t in the game and there were 2 much smaller named/supported schools in the bowl.
The best gauge is Wisconsin. Let’s see how many fans it brings this year.
The new TV deals and expanded stadiums will make it much harder to get the big names like Texas, Oklahoma, etc., that people mentioned above to come to Aloha Stadium. Texas now makes more than $5 million per home game, the SEC schools will make that number or more per home game when their new TV deal starts, etc. When you are talking about a public institution that needs to fund its athletic programs with football money, giving up even a single home game isn’t really possible.
UH could try to do home-and-home deals, but JD already said that UH didn’t want to travel to teams that are at the national title contender level. Plus, many teams are now trying to get 2-for-1 deals, so one game at Aloha Stadium for 2 at their stadiums. And I don’t think that UH could afford to lose out on home game revenue by scheduling those types of series.
I really like the late-season nonconference home games against big schools. The offense tends to be better late in the season than early, so UH can pull off upsets or at least come close (Cincinnati). However, that has to be with conferences that do not have conference championship games–so, rule out Big 12 and SEC schools but Pac-10 schools would be ideal.
ST,
You are correct, most schools lose money when going to lower-paying bowls. I know that Notre Dame lost a lot of money by going to the Hawaii Bowl. I don’t mind if a ton of lower-paying bowls go away…as long as that doesn’t include the Hawaii Bowl.
Stephen,
Good point. They would always bring so many fans, the stadium would be red. Now if we could only get our fans to wear our school colors. Green or White. How hard is that? (don’t answer that, i know it’s obviously too hard)
Wisconsin packed the stadium at their UNLV game in 2007. I remember that UH played at UNLV a week or two after Wisconsin and the Vegas papers reported that Wisconsin brought more fans to Vegas than UH brought! Of course, UH already has a lot of fans there. Tickets were apparently in greater demand for the Wisconsin game in Vegas than the UH game…so Wisconsin fans traveled really well to that game!
Garret,
my friend actually bought his UNLV vs UH game tickets from a Wisconsin fan. For them, its hard to get tickets to their home games, so what they do is buy season tickets to other team’s games that they’re playing at and going to and then sell the rest.
chawan_cut,
I’m sure that JD would love it if the Wisconsin fans bought UH season tickets!
… whoosh
Am I the only one who thinks the Tsai/Wai theme song sounds like part of The Silence of the Lambs soundtrack? Euuuuwww… maybe have the UH Fight Song or something.

whoosh!
Liz,
Thank you for the good luck wish this morning on the previous blog. Things went well today.
btw, who is/are leading the DBs in the workouts? everyone graduated.
It might have lost a lot of money but it was a gamble on their part. It has paid off in having Manti Teo joining their team.
Garret — woo hoo!
camellia’s is always a good place to have lunch and you never know who you will run in to.
the only problem is that the boss knows where you went for lunch by just one whiff of your bbq smelling clothes, hair, arms, pants, shoes, etc. that and the garlic flavored burps.
always a topic of discussion these days……who the new coaches?
i’ll be curious to see the continued development of youngsters, steve christian and lewis walker. part of their training regime should include more time spent at rainbow drive inn, they could use a few more 30 lbs each.
i heard that the two cb’s from last year’s jc recruits will turn heads.
and don’t be surprised if evan miller makes a push for some playing time, he the former kaiser hs all stater at safety.
JOHN- the embedding tag for Leila’s Relay Team video is not working.
i can’t believe that stupid mom with 14 kids has a website asking for donations. she said she doesn’t want to use government help but has no problem asking us? sad thing is there’ll be people that feel sorry for her. all the big baby product companies pulled out.
she said she’s surviving now on her $50k student loan and food stamps. she said she’ll be able to support them once she graduates.
um. does she know what a LOAN is? she has to pay that back to as well as support her kids.
they should shut down that clinic that approved that in-vitro process. and where did that money come from anyways to pay for that anyways?
something’s definitely not right upstairs. sorry, just my opinion.
CC – Maybe you should check her out, she is single. One positive is that you’ll get an instant family.
chawan_cut,
I figure it’s only a matter of time until she gets some reality-TV show of her own, sort of like the ones on TLC some of those other clans have. Other than that, I agree with you wholeheartedly.
um, stretch,
no thanks. i’d like them to be my own.
she’s too PSY-ko. that’s her problems.
her poor kids though.
If this rule change is made, the refs would apply dead ball penalties to the play that occurred, which would really change celebrations after TDs. For example, Stutz punting the ball after his TD vs. BYU would result in the TD taken away! At least they didn’t make the penalties apply as live-ball fouls now, but it sounds like they might do this in the near future.
I do like these other rule changes:
CRW,
I think even those stations will stay away from her. they already have that Jon & Kate + 8 show. i don’t think they’ll touch this situation. its too controversial and they don’t want that to affect them.
Eastern Washington was hit with major NCAA violations…these violations occurred while the now-Washington State coach was their head coach, and one of the penalties will apply to Washington State. Losing their head coach for the start of practice could hurt Washington State’s preparation to start the season…and UH plays Washington State early this season!
The recession has hit Fresno State’s Athletic Department hard…while I don’t like Fresno State, I do want the WAC to be as strong as possible so this isn’t good news.
I suspect this was done in light of the USC-UCLA publicity from last year? I think another team did this last year too (Southern Miss or Troy, one of them, I think).
It is a good thing that Fresno State has a new student fee to support athletics…or their situation would be so bad that the people calling for them to drop down to Division II would have a stronger argument. The students of UH seem to resist these type of fees, but Fresno State desperately needs this $1.3 mil in student fee revenue for athletics.
Other WAC schools are in trouble also, with Utah State is really bad shape. If their attendance problem doesn’t force them to leave D-IAA, their budget problem might do it.
holy cow.
a tornado in kapolei???
http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/20090211/BREAKING01/90211083
The WAC is trying to save money and the volleyball tournament might be the first to be cut back.
The article also mentions how BSU wants to go to the MWC.
i think fresno and utah state need a certain person with the initials H.F. to balance their budgets, or at least claim that he did it.
btw, how will UH ever fix what HF did? we’re not really “balanced” either if i recall right.
The MWC has three good teams in BYU, TCU, and UTAH. They keep snubbing BSU and that works in our favor.
In terms of strengthing their conference in terms of football, they are DUMB for not taking BSU.
Let the stupidity continue in OUR favor!!!!
i thought i read that rule change re: celebration penalties differently. i think it’s more like if you celebrate before reaching the end zone (ie strutting from the 5 yd line), then it’s gonna negate the TD whereas if you celebrate after the TD (ie the stutz punt into the stands or the UGA team celebration against FLA 2 years ago) then the penalty will not negate the TD
Chawan,
I no tink HF was “balanced” either…
homey,
just saw your golf cart comment. that guy doesn’t even have a hard hat and he’s below the post. not like that would save anything except his hair. the guy in the cherry picker, wait thats not even a cherry picker, but a fork, has a hat and he’s above the post!
i kinda feel the same way walking around the shipyard under the huge cranes with my UH hardhat. like that’s gonna save me and my neck if something drops on me.
owen-16,
You are correct on the rule change interpretation. However, the rules committee seriously considered making the celebration penalties applied as “live-ball” penalties, which would take away TDs.
when i read the word peanut above, i could only think of HF for some reason. he poisoned us too.
benson better not be so big headed in his we survived that mantra. it’s only a matter of time before the MWC gets so dominant w/ their 3 headed monster of BYU, TCU and Utah that somehow their gonna force their way into the BCS w/ the BCS’s only stipulation being you get BSU and you’re in. once that happens, it’s gonna be scary to be in the WAC.
come to think of it, isn’t benson a boise alum? wonder if he’s torn with his alma mater trying to ditch him and the WAC.
garrett
that would be a much better rule change, as there aren’t as many opportunities to celebrate before reaching paydirt as there are after it
chawan – Joined the gym yet?
homey,
nope. no need.
better stuff to spend money on.
chawan – good answer! That’s why I don’t join either. I rather indulge in food and alcohol.
Saw your post about Ramen too. Now I am craving that trio.
al,
One word: Febreze
i didnt know evan was playing at UH again. i know he was having some major shoulder problems. my brother hangs out with evan every weekend, so ill ask him if evan is back on the team.
howzit and good afternoon everyone. where da rain coming from?
chawan what not working today?
if someone is planning on having super games, I propose a team of homey, chawan and myself. homey chugs then I read a sentence next chawan reads one chapter of a book while I keep chugging till he finishes. bwhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Sawp,
Rocky look huge in the video of the Super Games…hope he stay injury free and destroy QB’s this year!
Speaking of the secondary, I too would like to know who has the edge to start as of right now. Obviously things will change before season opener but I like know who to keep a keen eye on. Lametrius Davis looks like someone who could step in right now. Bryant looked promising last year. I think Aaron Brown could be in the mix to start at one of the Safety spots. Wonder if Aulola Tonga, Kamalani Alo, or Mike Wadsworth could crack the rotation this year too. In due time them 3 are going to be mean. Tank need to put on weight or go on the Hawaiian Food diet…right now he no look like one Tank he look like one Moped.
Plus I’m thinking if LWJ cannot break into being a consistent running back for us, maybe Coach can use his speed at Safety? I know he left Nebraska because he didn’t want to play Safety but c’mon LWJ it’s your Senior year and reality is you haven’t done much except for that one Fresno State game. I hate seeing someone talented go to waste…
Oye and for the record…
ST and Princess Leila you guys crack me up with your new show on Tuesdays. Very entertaining though and look forward to seeing more interviews. Maybe should start getting the football boys to do interviews and give some insights for the upcoming football season?
Guess everybody watching Duke vs. UNC basketball game…
Kept be back after the game den…GO DUKE!
I’m guessing Boise does not have much of a television market as the reason the MWC has rejected them. Adding Boise will only dilute the TV money. Idaho will need a huge influx of residents before the MWC looks at them for membership.
Chad Owens is next Tuesday’s guest.
Hey, guess what?
Our bloggers have been told not to boost pictures off the Internet. Now you’ll be seeing a lot more dubious photos like the ones I shoot.
Stephen: I guess Kelli should introduce you to Kent, if you guys haven’t met yet. You guys can mentor each other. π
boost pictures off the net? like borrow without permission? oh, just in case they like sue you guys for the rights of the money you guys don’t have.
wait, that sentence didn’t make sense.
would they sue you to the rights to their photos?
and
would they sue you for the money that you guys don’t have?
sorry, i haven’t had to use proper grammar since the SAT.
SAT, eh? I bet you had 1600. *cough*
All my students do better than me … then again, now they get scores out of 2400. π
no ways 1600….
Evening Tsai-kos!!
I see where the Redskins hired a “Defensive Quality Control Coach”. So, what the frack is his job description? π
Ok, really OT. I need a favor from everybody. I applied for “The Best Job In The World” down in Australia. I had to do a video app and put something together very quickly just to get it done. I need everybody to rate my video 5 stars even though it’s junk and cheesy. I would really appriciate the support of the Tsaikos on this matter. Help send me to Australia!

Garret:
your #171: here we go again, the NCAA dumping on the little guys and the big guns ( USC, Texas, Florida, etc ) get off with very little or NO penalties – Reggie Bush for example.
yur #177: my impression from Benson’s statement is that if “by-laws” allowed dumping UH and LaTech – the WAC would vote to do it!!
if UH can get soooo goood that the PAC 10 would come calling as their fans would love to visit Hawaii – of course, we need help from the airlines and hotels to package a great itinerary they cannot refuse – all the while Coach Mack is builidng a great Warrior program.
lurking……….but only because no one wanted to debate shoe sizes. Sounds like Niketown knows something. Can the players get medical exceptions to wear better shoes?

curveball – best wishes to you and Kristin.
I don’t know about anyone else but, playing SMU with JJ as coach is like going to a dance where the girl who dumped you shows up with her new boyfriend. He might be fat and ugly, but he could hurt you and there is nothing positive to be gained from a confrontation. Would you let your ex into your house with her new BF?
JJ might have gotten the raw end of HF, but he made the choice to leave after UH’s greatest year knowing that 2008 would be a rebuilding year. JJ could use the Hawaii game as a recruiting tool to take a few Hawaii players away.
Is he doing us a favor by playing a home and home? I don’t think so! JJ may have a warm spot for Hawaii in his heart, but he is still all business and would sure as heck try to steal Hawaii’s next star QB from under our noses.
Sorry JJ, keep your BF away and stick to recruiting in Texas and the bayou…
If JJ wanted a home and home series, he could have taken the job at Idaho.
30 minutes until the “higher power” π
Or is it one hour?
I dunno. I still feel that Coach Jones’ departure was the catalyst that brought needed change to the UH football program.
If I felt weird about anything- it was the pall that fell over the Sugar Bowl team.
The unfoldment of events after that changed the infrastructure for the better and it is still happening.
No bad feelings for Coach Jones here.
any one interested in sushi in Vegas should consider Wayne’s Sushi & Karaoke Bar located at 2721 W. Sahara Avenue

A-House,
When is your next visit to see Masa-boy?
We actually haven’t visited since the game last year.

My only regret of the Sugar Bowl was JJ “leaking” the fact to his staff before the game that was leaving UH and applying for the SMU job.
Unfortunately, it reached the players just before kick off – I believe they were still in the locker room.
I wish he had kept it in until after the game.
If I am totally wrong, please, someone correct me and I apologize for the mis-information.
I would like to see Hawaii play SMU and see the Warriors kick their ass!!!
el guapo:
Actually, he will be here on vacation to attend his cousin’s wedding in March.
Its been a while since he came home and this will be a very opportune time for us to see all my kyodai and their families.
esme,
just wanted to say i wrote something on your page today!
what ever happened to gigi?
ripper…..she habut.
letsgo……
check this he is on the roster

JJ is doing us a favor by wanting to set some games with the Warriors. While it would be nice to play more Pac-10 teams they are not knocking on our door. To believe BCS schools are looking to play us here is naive. JJ’s heart is still in Hawaii, his offer is proof of that.
rip it- Some of us visit gigi on her blog… she’s still kickin!
djmitcho,
I gave you 5 stars in the rating…good luck getting the job!
I didn’t realize that Bess came this close to leading the Dolphins in receptions despite not starting until fairly late into the season…Pennington sure went to him a lot down the stretch!

Two satellites collided in space! The 600+ pieces of debris that resulted could be a big problem for the other satellites in the area.
Petroleum-based plastics may soon be replaced by nonpolluting, renewable plastic made from plants. Not only would this reduce our carbon footprint and reduce our dependency on foreign oil, but it would be a great new cash crop for farmers. Iβm amazed that plants could be used to grow plastics!
China has found an unusual type of bird flu that infects humans but not birds! 8 people have been affected and 5 have died despite the birds being apparently unaffected by the disease.
UH should take up all offers by teams who want to play here (SMU, Oregon State). In this economic climate, athletic departments are looking to cut costs. ST told us that the UH men’s volleyball team has to cut its prematch meals and shorten its trips, and the Fresno article Garret linked to talks about booting UH from the WAC to cut travel costs (prohibited by bylaws, but troubling that people are talking about it). Playing a football game in Hawaii is not cheap and is probably not the first choice of many football programs, BCS or non-BCS.

djmitcho- me too. Thanks for the reminder, Garret!
momotaro,
I know that some articles over the past year mentioned that the issue of UH subsidizing travel costs of the other WAC teams might be brought up again. Remember, UH used to have to pay that, but were able to get the subsidies removed when they got some leverage…now both UH and La Tech are considered budgetary burdens for travel.
I think that filling the pukas in the schedule in the near future will be a problem for UH, which is the best part of the offer from JJ in my opinion. Remember, competent ADs work on their football schedules years in advance (some teams are filling their schedules all the way up to 2015 already!), and aren’t begging for teams right before the season begins like HF in 2007. Because HF was so far behind in the 2007 schedule, the 2010 and 2011 schedules were neglected.
My personal preference would be to do a home-and-home with Oregon State, which they have offered. Playing a good Pac-10 team has a much better upside to me than playing a C-USA or MWC team. I understand the recruiting implications, but so many other teams are recruiting in Hawaii anyway and Mac and the UH assistants are doing everything right to keep the local recruits home that want to remain home.
Many other schools would be great to schedule but they have already filled their schedules and wouldn’t be likely possibilities. Oregon State, Washington, Washington State, to me are all good choices for future games that have already shown they would do home-and-home deals with UH.
offtopic but dear to my heart:
Rulings on autism-vaccination connection expected
* Lead plaintiffs’ attorney says Department of Justice special court will rule Thursday
* A panel of “special masters” will issue decisions on three test cases
* Cases involve children with autism that parents contend was triggered by vaccination
* 180 lawyers collectively represent the 4,800 families with claims
http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/02/11/autism.vaccines/index.html
djmitcho: I loved that video! Definite five stars! π
Liz – the Brits have found that the researcher who originally published the study that linked vaccines and autism *changed* his data. No other studies have corrobated the “findings”.
jm2375: Certainly worth studying, though. There’s a young boy at my church who is autistic. Not saying the vaccines are the reason why he’s like that, but I’m sure for many parents and family members out there, it’s a question that needs answering soon. I’m just wondering if there’s enough statistical data out there to conclusively show causality, and if there are any serious new unbiased studies being conducted into the effects of such preservatives and the vaccines in general. And by serious, I mean something that doesn’t look like it was put together by an amateur with a pre-determined conclusion.
Jason: I believe part of the reason for the increase is either a change in diagnostic criteria or it’s become a “disease of the month”. Autism is also detected most easily at about the same age as the MMR vaccine is given. As a public health professional, I am a believer in the Star Trek adage “the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few”. That being said, I am not convinced that some of the newer vaccines are worth it. I have not yet had my 13 year old vaccinated with the Gardisil vaccine. It’s supposed to help prevent a cancer that won’t show up for many years that we don’t have any familial risk factors for. I’ll wait several years for more safety studies. I also would have rather she caught chickenpox as a young child, but no such luck, so she was vaccinated.
As for the research, check Medline: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez
Congrats to the MPI Owls who beat Konawaena 2-0 in DII boys soccer championship. They advance to play #3 seed Waialua tomorrow. Go Na Pueo!!
I raised my first 2 kids w/o vaccinations. They are good to go.
My second two had DT- no pertussis – both have problems. Tourettes in one and ADHD/Dyslexia in the other.
I also contracted mild rubella from a shot they required before my second marriage.
Not personally keen on shots.
Jm2375 ~ So it’s true, you do cheer for the fighting Owls huh? I was schocked when I read about it. It’s so not your style! I guess I expected better from you. Tsai!…
Slipping this in now–I’ve been preoccupied with the Karaoke Calls and it’s almost mid-February already….

Kekoa – Na Pueo is my 2nd favorite team and only because my kid attends MPI. Da Jr Bows will always be MY team. π My boss’ son is a freshman on the MPI soccer team. π
JM ~ Ok…I feel much better now! Whew…that was close. Owls, how frightening!
Bingo, SteveM. I updated.
Wena is throwing out old stuff. She came across a box full of banquet programs. Not sure why we saved banquet programs.
But there’s one from the 1980 baseball team, which went to the World Series.
And there’s one from the 1980 football team. Apparently a second-year letter was awarded to somebody named Keith Ah Yuen. Whatever happened to that guy? All I remember was he had a lot of pride. And his skills? Well, let’s say they were one in a million.
Kekoa- did you see da tornado?
jm2375- always gotta support da keeds!
You know, I don’t believe I’ve actually seen a real owl. (Although there was a person we knew who looked like an owl. The big line was: “Whoooo?”)
Nor have I seen a rhino in person.
Nor a kangaroo.
I think the Honolulu Zoo needs to expand its collection.
Well put, ST. Period!
btw… do you know if the imbedding link to the relay video has been fixed?
Liz:
Speakie Engie?
Actually, I don’t even know where to find the video.
Every time they make “improvements” to the system β whammo! β it makes things harder to find.
Hey Stephen,
Don’t throw out those old programs..
Folks like me would love them as blog prizes
Knock Knock
Who’s there?
Impatient owl.
Impatient owl whooo…
ST – #257 π π How’s ’bout posting a ca 1980 pix of da guy. hehehehe.
Kekoa – BTW, my parents were high school sweethearts @ MPI and have been active alumni over the years. My grandfather also attended Mills College (predecessor to MPI) waaaaaay back in the day. So, my daughter is a “legacy” child, it just skipped a generation. My sisters went to the same school as our esteemed blog host, although not at the same time.
homey – that is so lame….
Looks like the turf still needs a lot of time to settle. Rubber pellets flying everywhere.
Keep Bulla and d1 away from the turf and away from the tool shack. No sharp objects in their possession … π
Stephen,
There are 4 Rhinos at the zoo.
Two by the Zebra’s and Giraffe’s.
Two more are the exhibit of the Lions or as some may see exhibit of grass and trees
Then again, I haven’t been to the zoo in 15 years. The last time I was there I saw a used syringe a couple of stalls from my car.
jm#### – There’s only one lame here…
Also right before you enter the Reptile exhibit, to your left you will see 2 huge tortoises. Those buggahs always mating.
In fact they are said to mate 3-4 times a week.
Not bad for those 70 year olds..
Liz ~ Kimana was driving Diana back from the store, and they spotted it when it touched down about a mile away from them. He said that it sucked up mostly the red dirt in the area, and some outdoor patio equipment and chairs flew up in the air. Weird day!
I was talking to Curveball on my cell at the time, and he had my undivided attention.
ST, I hope you got the msg I left with Wena…
What did Tarzan say when he saw a herd of rhinos coming over the hill? “Look, herd of rhinos coming over hill”.
What did Tarzan say when he saw a herd of rhinos wearing sunglasses coming over the hill? Nothing, he did not recognize them.
What did Tarzan say when he saw a herd of elephants coming over the hill? “You rhinos no fool me again!”
ST- got hat right… I was looking for your tv show from yesterday to see if Richard Cooley was still around. I went to the Warrior Beat section from the link… no mo!
I found it eventually… and Richard is gone at last.
Stephen,
Remember when our zoo had:
Camels, Gorillas, Kangaroos and Wallabies, a Black Pather, more than 2 sun bears, etc…
But then of course they were in cement cages and not roaming in the nature as they do now..
OK, I guess we’ll also use as prizes the 1980 baseball card with Rick Bass, Thad Reece, Mark Olmos and “Collin” Tanabe. Isn’t it supposed to be “Colin” Tanabe?
Kekoa- we had one a dose a few years ago in Kaumakani. RED, da buggah!
Goodnight animals.
Kekoa:
Yep. I think we’ll make the announcement tomorrow.
Didn’t the Manoa AJA team have the whole Tanabe Clan?
Colin, Clint, Cameron, etc… I think they all started with “C” expect one brother.. Anyone recall? Was it Drake?
Good night Tsai-kos!!
Homey – your jokes are lame, you are only a little lame. π
ST,
Interesting Pole Erection Picture you took.
We always see ’em being taken down…
Didn’t realize that’s how they are put up.
Drake Tanabe can now be seen every senior night. He’s the guy standing next to Ariel. (He used to be our credit union manager.)
JM2375,
Homey did tell Chawan_Cut that he has a few things in common.
Hey, Wena, just found my Muhammad Ali autograph, from 1970.
We were in Miami when the hotel doorman told me to approach him. I said: “Hi, Mr. Clay …”
And he gave me that stare.
The best autograph I have is when Pete Rose signed my parlay sheet at the MGM in Las Vegas.
Then there was the time when Lawrence Taylor signed, then said: “Now get the hell away from me.”
Now a days you say Mr. Clay and folks think of Brian…
or my Opu which are no longer bricks
Now a days you say Mr. Clay and folks think of Brian…
or my Opu which are no longer bricks
ST- I have Akebono on my HA ticket envelope thingy. I wonder which is more rare now. The sig. or the ticket holder?
Good point, Liz.
Then there was the time Woody Harrelson turned down my autograph request. He was carrying a kid at the airport. The guy next to him offered to carry the kid while he signed, but he still refused. Later, I realized the other guy was Wesley Snipes.
Thanks for that ST ~
BTW – I hope you put the right signature on your Union dues check. I know you’d hate to fall in (or on) arrears! Less 10% of course.
There was a kid waiting for Malcolm Lane after last year’s Nevada Game.
Mal was in a press conference and taking long (he and Mouton were the last to leave). Mal’s mom was by me so I told the kid to stick around because he didn’t leave yet. The kid turned to Mal’s mom and said, “Boy you son sure takes a long time bathing”
So- I saw Princell Leila’s video on Tombo_Ahi’s blog and just copied his code on mine. A little strange, but it’s up.
808Ike, where you stay???
And Brew808??
Now I gots ta sleep. Made cookies tonight- the last batch is pau.
Sweet Tsai-ko dreams. You are all in my prayers.
Princell???yikes! Princess!
i have seen the white pueo on three occasions. once sitting on median rail on the h-3 saddle near the kawainui marsh. a second time on the same stretch of road, but, this time it was road kill. the third time while traversing through the old kawainui marsh road.
i guess the kawainui marsh does serve its purpose as a bird sanctuary.
and i guess st has never smelled the elephant cage?
al they also found a dead alligator in the marsh..
alligator???
no wonder the wild pigs disappeared.
alligator???
no wonder the wild pigs disappeared.
Been dozing all day and still awake so I just booked my hotel for the UNLV game: Hooters. π
We have walked through there when it was the San Remo. Peaches agrees it is convenient for our purposes, one of which is to get to the airport quick Sunday morning. Also directly across the street from MGM monorail terminal and close to our favorite coffee shops in Excalibur & Luxor.

Good morning Tsaikos!
Good Morning Tsaikos!!
Time for me to get ready for work. See everyone later.
Another fine frozen morning all!
Garret . . .
Why not plastic from plants? We already have plants from plastic.
It is scraper day, again.
Dang.
If the flu does not affect birds but humans instead. Is it really an avian flu?
Kekoa . . .
Remembering to breathe!
Snuffy Smith! I see you got early release from O triple C and back in business again at #307. Sheesh!…you’ll be back inside before nightfall.
kawainui marsh
have seen the white pueo
what’s intriguing to the little ones is watching uncle throw some bread in the water and as the small talapia go after the bread….at the same time the white pueo dives into the water and goes after the talapia, usually gulping down many at a time.
where did all the ducks go?
along the trail note the moss rock wall, the workmanship on that wall is outstanding, probably comes at a high cost since it’s at least 5 feet high and stretches a mile (at least?).
haven’t seen pigs at the marsh as al mentioned
but have seen many pigs up in …Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden (google)
no admission charge, and the top part of the trail gives a tutorial (signs etc) identifying the plants and trees found in Hawaii)….very worth while walk around the Lake…saw 3 big white ducks in the marsh area, and many in the water ( saw signs identifying the types etc) check in with the office, something I regretfully ignored as it was confusing to which trail to go on…seemed to be three trails ( not marked well, and confusing to follow with some going to dead ends.)
to do lists (someday…Diamond Head, and the state park up in Tantalaus)
about football
read the upcoming rule change here about something to do with how if the punter goes out of the tackle box it wouldn’t be a roughing the kicker penalty on the defense is a good rule to enact
in the wac or some time team UH played last year ( was it Boise?) had a right footed rugby style type punter that would sprint to the right about 15 yards with the punt defenders hesitant to run into the punter–now the defenders can, which I think is good for the punt defenders.
about Oregon state football-I thought i read somewhere where the football coach would love to play UH in the future, but the OSU administration nixed the idea
about future opponents, outside of the wac, UH has to find a rival, a rivalry game that creates a lot of hype…and a lot of viewership from PPV
PPV and TV should help UH underwrite the costs of bringing in a big name teams
or UH should have a bigger percentage of PPV
SMU? Sure, why not.. Fostering relationships with one Texas team is a start to perhaps other Texas teams looking to schedule here.. Big market area, Texas…and the smu-UH could potentially develop into a rivalry game, which is the niche UH should be looking for—also there could possibily be lot of viewership from dallas
Roysan16 ~
“The eyes of Texas are upon you!”…That sounds good, but I’m wondering how the Texas folks would feel about the travel expense.
Once the shine wore off the lily, it would be hard to pitch it to the fans to shell out for transportation and lodging to Hawaii.
What about the Military teams? We got Navy coming here in November of this year. What about the Air Force, since it’s out West?
Good Morning Tsaikos.
kekoa
you hit it on the nose with scheduling the military teams in the future
with a uncertain job market we’re already seeing record enlistments in all the branches of the services-marines, army, navy etc.
and I imagine the academies, likewise, are seeing better talented football applicants wanting to go to the academises because of an uncertain job market
the future talent on the academy teams-airforce, navy and army- should see it’s teams attracting and become appealing to the talented football recruits
how i see it in the future the academy teams should be fortified with a lot more talented players
and scheduling these teams to play UH wouldn’t anyway be gimme games because the academy teams should tougher to play in the future
rivalry games with the academy teams? sure, sounds like a good idea.
which in the future the academy teams
roysan, the white bird at the swamp you are describing is probably not a pueo, but an owkoo (spp), night heron or cattle egret. the white pueo is probably a barn owl, which is the logo for white owl cigars. the pueo is a small owl and very shy.
i may be wrong, but didn’t 2 of our more famous nfl players come from the air force to uh, larry cole and golden richards?????
whitey
i’m glad you taught me something, i got the those two mixed up
absolutely your right
now i remember for sure (?. maybe)? i’ve seen the pueo near the wailae country club near the beach park–beautifulest bird to marvel at
i believe for uh to get “major” schools to schedule us is going to take some time, but he also needs to look at how you approach other ads’. personally, i would start with “omiyage” to introduce myself to them. When going on trips, always take “omiyage”. When they visit here and before they go home, give them an “omiyage”. You will be surprised at how the old axiom works wonders “treat people the way you want to be treated”.
another suggestion is for jd to sit with hugh yoshida to find out how he got teams to come here or on their schedule. hugh knows how the “omiyage” works.
if you look back at the past prior to hf, scheduling was not a problem. the major problems for uh scheduling is a result of hf being a total arsehole.
why not do what hugh did, bring in a bunch of ads’ for a weekend of golf and getting to know each other. ask the airlines and hotels for help cause they will benefit when the other schools come here.
ok, time to get ready for “big time” marketing today. Have a great day!!!
whitey
i think also if the elected hawaii officials elected to congress smmoze with other states congress people and ask other states congress people to get word back to the college prez to keep UH in mind in future scheduling would help, imo. it can’t hurt.
it all about smmoozing
if the prez obama just intimated the idea to a colleague “keep hawaii in mind in future schedule” could work wonders.
Aloha Kakahiaka!
We have pueo and barn owls here. The pueo are cuuuute!
The biggest power that UH can get on its side for scheduling is ESPN. UH fills a time slot for ESPN that no other team can fill, and UH can bring ratings to that time slot with the right opponent. ESPN is already setting up a lot of special telecasts of football games for other schools, but nothing so far for UH for the upcoming season.
Even more than smoozing college Presidents or ADs, the lure of a national TV broadcast on ESPN will get teams lining up to play UH.
Good morning Tsai-kos!!
roysan – #309 – the rock wall at Kawainui Marsh is actually a levee.
I remember seeing a brown owl (Hawaiian owl?) fly across Honolulu (at least from my vantage point up on Round Top) every evening during the summer waaaay back when I was a kid.
As for the WAC kicking UH and LaTech out – isn’t UH the senior member? When did FSU and SJSU join the conference?
GARRET: Your point in scheduling and recruiting is well-taken. In the case of JJ, it would seem that his offers for the next several years has been in Texas and is a bigger area too begin with in recruiting than in Hawaii and Samoa. It may be that we are too concern with him “poaching” in our part of the world.
I would be more concerned with the western US (ie Washington, Oregon, Utah, Colorado) where the population is comparatively small and they have to go far afield in recruiting. Of course if there is a superstar(s) in our area, the coaches may wander over here to see if they are interested.
Maybe Doris has some thoughts on that – but this is my 2 cents and in these days, 2 cents doesn’t go too far.
Mahalo Garret and TOM- Also, Texas is a GREAT place for UH to recruit players. Door swings both ways.
I still believe that Coach Jones loves Hawaii (his Foundation is one reason to believe) and is really trying to do his part to help UH.
Good morning all! Thanks to those who have rated my video so far. I really appriciated it.
Great Morning All!
Extra “day off” today…to be spent in bed trying to nurse a sore back (not a broke back, homey!) π
