The Ikei way
Once again, Chad Ikei trained the breakout performer at UH’s pro day. Corey Paredes’ football skills were never in doubt; he has overcome a humble start (walk-on status) and numerous injuries to become one of the Warriors’ top tacklers. But his speed and jumping ability were a pleasant surprise at pro day.
What makes Ikei’s program successful β ’round-the-clock supervision of diet and workouts β would be difficult to replicate for a student-athlete needing to balance academic responsibilities. Paredes, in addition, is a husband and father. But for post-UH players, Ikei’s program has caught the attention of pro-football scouts.
As Paredes noted: “Ikei all the way.”

Good Morning!
Rain, rain, go away …
Way to go Cory!
Where is everyone?
mornin
Alright, Corey! Good luck!
good job, Corey! keep it up!
Thanks for the good writeup. It in reality was once a amusement account it. Look complicated to more brought agreeable from you! However, how could we be in contact?
aloha & good morning. Another aqua day.
Caught up with John Estes a week ago. He raved about Ikei.
Vaughn also raved about Ikei yesterday….and how it really helped him and Andrew Faaumu….in addition to Corey.
Since it’s now been 1 week, just curious why UH hasn’t yet announced the official signing of Konawaena DL Mike Andrade.
I wonder what could holding that up. But then again….maybe it was contingent on Fanaika’s decision after all. Hmmm……
Congrats to all of the Warriors that participated in the Pro Day. Go Warriors! Go Nuts!
Howzit, everyone!
Hope you guys dry out soon!
Good to hear positive news regarding our Warriors Pro Day. Ikei all da way! We still struggle with recognition, but breakout performances at Pro Days and in the NFL has helped to push some of that stigma aside. Keep it going, boyz! Wishing all you guys all the best, no matter what direction your future takes you!
Still going over our options of either moving back home or toughing it out one more year so our oldest son can get his best foot forward towards college. Time’s ticking, but we gotta do this right.
Why can’t the Ikei experience be experienced when they are still warriors? Over the years, we have seen our boys take their fitness and agility to the next level with Chad. Only problem is, most have already completed their eligibility. Is nutrition (or a possible pro paycheck) that much of a factor? Would love to see our boys reach these peak shapes while they still got a few years left in the eligibility tank.
BIK
ST & Tsaiko Blog Dogs:
I wonder if Mr. Ikei could work on me to change this old body for a newer model. I need round the clock supervision cause I snack like crazy and have no motivation to work out. I am also afflicted with that common disease…old age.
…..and I’m not talking about “the Chad Ikei experience” per se. I’m mainly talking about our boys’ willingness, discipline and commitment to being being in optimal shape while they are still in school. Chad cost $$$, we know this. But I can’t see how his teachings cannot be replicated with the resources we already have for our football players.
BIK
Thanks for the birthday wishes ..all is well in N. Cal
Good morning, gang!
Ikea’s program has helped a lot of former Warriors. Good to see that he is home.
Congrats to the showing our Warriors put on yesterday. What happened to Kani? Hope it’s not too long of a setback.
Good morning Tsaikos everywhere.
Fanaika gets 1 auwe frum bruh Hilo, not 3. an no sobbin Al.
maybe da divorcing acquaint said it bess … next.
Good Morning Gangeez! π
Ikei’s reputation grows. The proof is in the pudding as they say. Gratz to him and our Pro Day Warriors.
curveball:
how U? good to see you posting again – no shame, become a regular again!
and belated Happy Birfday.
al:
while I thank you for a future lunch and you paying, I would have preferred if I lost and had to pay your lunch – that’s the way things go and hope he has a good career.
flip side, is that UH may end up with 2 players who wanted the glitz, but heart still says Hawaii No Ka Oi!!!
sick all day yesterday – went to the blog only to see that it was still posted for 3/4/12 – come to work and find that 3/5/12 had a post – must have frozen top side, but then again, it’w always frigid top side for me.
Does anyone have Corey’s height and weight from the Pro-Day? I’m curious to see what his actual measurements were.
23. wit da results
Ikei gotta get bighead, maybe 12″x14″x9″
π― π
“’round-the-clock supervision of diet and workouts”
Need me summa dat.
14. BIK
I agree with a definite! Only makes logical sense.
I’m sure the, “Ikei Experience” can be replicated at UH.
ST- Does Chad serve “Meatballs” (da kine you like) during his diet regiment like the famed store that’s one letter off from his name?
How you, Curveball! Howz Slider? =)
sportshawaii.com has Andrade as sent a LOI and signed but UH must be going over his transcripts before the final announcement. I hope my assumption is correct. He sounds like a good addition.
Good morning Tsaikos!
Hope everyone stays safe and dry today. Rumbling started up again here on da Eas’side. It’s pouring.
Hopefully rain lets up in time for the softball game tonight.
BIK,
Going to classes and studying and all those things seems to really get in the way of players trying to train full-time. You do remember school, don’t you? π
A sunshiny morning to the Tsaikos.
#23,
According to ST, Corey measured in at 5’10-3/8″ and weighed in at 230 lbs.
mixed reviews of the pro day.
looks like the Wahine SB team moved up to #19.
I hope they pick up Corey as a linebacker. Seems like he got fixed in the speed department. His instincs and tackling was super. Too bad the injured knee hampered his play last season. If they pick him up as a fullback, I hope he learns how to hang on to the ball. I saw Allen, Owens, and others get released because of the fumble. I know he can do it. Go Corey. Go Warriors.
Morning folks!
Doesn’t UH have a sports nutritonist? The right diet will inevitably maintain muscle mass and cut your fat content down changing your body mass index (fat to muscle ratio) and therefore increase your speed and improve your agility.
Well, thats what I read in issue of Mens Journal. But with the prevelance of plate lunches in Hawaii, its probably hard to maintain a strict diet….heh.
Dang, just read that Zane Johnson not going play in the WAC Tournament.
when it rains it pours.
Great Morning All!
The Ikei Way? Did the Blog Host get side-tracked to IKEA looking for a scoop?
al,
Will Warrior fans be really “Happy” if this happens?
BIK and others,
Nutritionits cost $$$ and UH has ZERO $$$$$!!!!! I heard that the team only gets training table during the season and it is not “good for you” food, just whatever is the cheapest! If you want to be the best you need to spend the $$$…see below

GBU Zane. Get well…quick. Actually, hope this will open the door
for Ostrowski to shoot 3 pointers. Even all the other guys, especially
our center, who is wide open when he goes out to set up a block.
happy? the player is from Maui?
ahouse, mattyboy, and others…
i may have made an assumption as early as yesterday afternoon regarding the san mateo kid. but, you did notice that i have not made a concesion speech.
while some social media places are hinting that he will go the sec route, my understanding is that a signed letter of intent is not yet in the hands of the sec school.
therefore, the door is not yet been closed.

how does a local story like this make national headlines before any news outlet in hawaii?! and seriously…. wtf is wrong with tsa?!?!

Wonderful article, thanks for sharing!
This being reported on ESPN/LA….Simione Vehikite (FB/LB from Kapolei) no longer with the USC football team. He is attending classes this semester at USC.

Just read about the 81 year old Powerball winner on the SA. She took a $210 million lump sum payment and Rhode Island got $14.7 million on taxes from her winnings alone. That’s why I’m in favor of a state run lottery used for only education. Of course, they way this state runs things, how much money will be pinched by dishonest people working for the lottery?

Coach Hernandez does a great job of selling his kids to get scholarships to play college football. Bottom line is its up to the kids to take advantage of it and get an education. Can anybody name some of the better college players that came from Kapolei?

There will be no make-up game.
i don’t even remember ali’i robins… but if he did transfer he’d have 3/3 after his sit out year.
oops… koa ka’ai not keliikipi. would love to have either of them back though.
papajoe2, Kaheaku-Enhada from Kapolei started at qb for navy.
wahine should move up in the rankings, but not too much. Maybe #19. 3 slots.
Previous unbeatens, FSU and Auburn stumbled over the weekend with three losses each and Texas A&M lost a game. Other than those teams, the top 20 performed well, including Louisville and La Laf who are also undefeated and ranked betw 12-19.
Four wins against DePaul and the lady seminoles should help the wahine rpi.
Provided the rain subsides, the wahine schedule favors extending their winning streak.
At least, until Texas, Texas A&M and California roll into town the following week.
El Burro, Joe Shmo…
It’s not about training more as referenced by EB and the “remember college” statement. It’s more about what Shmo referenced regarding nutrition. I know folks who do not have the luxury of a college scholarship and work a full time job, raise kids, etc — who have gotten themselves into peak shape. Go in to any of the MMA gym across the state and you will see bradduhs and sistas getting in to OPTIMAL shape. how? Like Shmo said….NUTRITION…and a good dosage of hard work. I know our boys are working out. They have to, it is part of what it takes to be a D1 football player. Many are work out beasts! The part we seldom acknowledge however, is the nutrition part. You can work out like a beast, but if your diet is supplemented by eating is katsu with gravy and fruit punch (and pumpkin crunch), those advances will not reach optimal levels. Richard Torress was an example of a player who was in optimal shape. But just how many Richard Torreses did we have on our Roster? Whether it is an institutional offering thing or just the willingness of each player to eat better, nutrition is the key ingredient to seeing our boys excel. Problem is, they are not in a bubble. Oahu is a foodie’s paradise…as witnessed by many a good Tsaiko. This might be the curse that dooms us all. hee hee. For football players, it could be taco bell!
BIK
haaa! Nebraska got their own executive chef on staff. Wow.
BIK
jkjones, rankings came out already.
JMO, but I feel REBOUNDERS provide Hawai’i’s program with more than quality talent and all the dressings that are attached. It sends a message of sorts and if Chow & Co can replay the storyline to future local recruits, it may become the tie-breaker that tilts a local prospect towards Manoa. In the end, it’s all about pitch n sell, one-on-one salesmanship.
Rebounders help to push a cogent point across to local boys who maybe swept up in all the attention and courting– there is no place like playing at home.
couch, mahalo.
just got it. wahine are ranked #19 by USA. Still waiting on the other poll.
Just as I thought–ranking are based on conference rpi….so, what else is new.
Wahine will have a golden opportunity to shatter the glass ceiling when Texas, A&M and CALIF visit. Texas has pitching and outstanding hitting. CALIF has awesome pitching and A&M has 7 losses.
#64 –
Apparently two thrashings by the same team are enough for the ‘Nolettes. π j/k…
both the espn usa and coaches poll have the Wahine @ #19.

go Warriors.
Good Morning!
CP, AB, and the rest of the warriors are beasts. Good luck to all. Hard luck on Kaneala, keep chasing your dreams an never give up.
couchp, ahhh, Navy qb. Thanks. Any others come to mind? They seem to have a lot of D1 signees but when I thought about it, I couldn’t think of anybody. Like I said earlier, coach is selling them, they must get their degree.
BTW, Chad Ike is a beast too! Good job! Way to represent the 808!
al: #43
I am not surprised by your “gumbariness” for San Mateo boy, but perhaps your “little birdie” will work wonders and bring him to Manoa.
However, does this mean that one “bounce back” will not receive a scholarship?
jmho, Fehoko had plenty of time to decide. Unless Coach Chow has room to wait I say in my Italian voice “Forget about it.”
papajoe2, you are right, had plenty players from Kapolei getting schollies. need to get that degree. how? no fool around, go class, study. it’s a mindset.
Bigwave:
are you intentionally “egging” al on with your past post of “would be nice – just saying”?
the “winds of change” is like a hurricane–always blowing somewhere.
Who is this Corenlius Flame? Hope he isn’t a booster for LSU.
I was wonderful article. Thanks for sharing. I will be looking for may more such articles.
Ahouse…my lips are sealed.
al,
If your “lips are sealed” let me know if you need “help” at your lunch with A-house and MattyBoy! π
Chad Ikei is the man!
opps- hit Κ»enterΚ» too soon- meant to say- that when he was a little of 110 lbs. in high school benching 3 plates- people on the east side knew he was something special– way to go bro
ahouse…please explain the term “gumbariness” to us young-ens.
Gumbariness….what an interesting word!
was that a misprint in the SA? hard to believe that Satele only did 13 reps in the bench. could be he was injured.
maybe he means “gambari”.
Nutritionally challenged is not just a Hawaii thing.
Get Spam here but get Biscuits ‘n Gravy on the mainland.
If Fehoko is still feeling Hawaii, still get chance.
If Fehoko is still feeling Hawaii, he should see how we feel about him.
If he becomes a Warrior, wait til he sees how the whole state’s gonna feel about him.
Wait til he sees how the whole Aloha Stadium crowd reacts to his first pancake there next year, or better yet the first replay of him lifting a defender off their feet on the big screen.
At LSU or the SEC, no disrespect intended, he’ll be just another face in the crowd.
In Hawaii, he’ll have a chance to shine while helping to build something special, something unique. He can leave a legacy with his name on it, a legacy that can be a source of pride for our state and all Polys.
Come home, Fehoko. Your fellow Warriors and your new family are waiting.
Nineeseb’n!
Ninee’ate!

It’s decision time Fehoko. Polynesia’s team or Louisiana’s team? It’s that simple. Make a choice. Time to move forward.

I think this is among the most important info for me. And i am glad reading your article. But should remark on few general things, The site style is wonderful, the articles is really excellent : D. Good job, cheers
perhaps a certain San Mateo person should believe in his heart/intuition wherever it may take him
ha, me saying dat – I should talk and believe in dat when in any casino – especially at the carp table u know, intuition says shooter will roll an 11, not place a bet on the 11, and 11 is rolled – or, intuition says a 12 and shooter rolls a 12, but stupid me no place bet – yet, someday I will toss a green chip on that feeling and reel in the $$$!
not that rich to do that yet.
The thing about rebounders is they have to sit out a year. So it’s a matter of weighing their value in two years as opposed to a ready-made player.
^ only if they don’t graduate and enroll in a program not offered at their previous institution.
is there a difference between rebounders and bounceback players?
Rebounders don’t play MBB for Hawaii
d1shima, little bit mean that was. πΏ π

alrighty then, maybe one Warrior gets drafted this year.
someone in the athletic department check the fax machine.
next mens bball game will at least give us a look at what we should expect to see next year, with the exception of Miah of course.
happy for Paredes, but he is kind of injury prone. Maybe scouts will consider just how darn good he played while injured. That should say something right?
Gib has to not recruit non-qualifiers.
I enjoyed your post, it reminds me, I was totally speaking with my sister on this just last week. Turns out she’d been hoping to hire a painting contractor and was trying to find the time it takes to research, contact and screen painters (I can so relate) that is until she discovered this useful website. Just felt I’d contribute it here just in case anyone else has no time for that work either!

most of our JUCOs redshirt, ditto with incoming frosh….. at least in the past.
One type of rebounder need not redshirt and that applies to a post grad athlete.
the point remains, the value that a rebounder brings is the storyline used to convince one or two local high school frosh to stay home per year or perhaps another or two to bounceback.

FSU happy with the cancelled game?
Darn Crutch…I mean couch potato must be one of those rainy boring days but any day in Hawaii nei is a good day…rather be here than on the mainland….I don’t like tornadoes….those low black clouds with hail and the funnel peeking out from the clouds
al at 129 . . .
Birdies must be chirping a different tune.
I thought the offer expired yesterday.
Wafan,
They’re leaving tomorrow. FSU didn’t exactly have a stellar visit.
We really wanted to be the ones to hand them their first loss, but Radford did a good job. FSU’s aces gave us a good look at more things to come so it was a character-building two games against them.
It was a great feeling on Saturday night for sure to get that win under us and even better was for Stephanie Ricketts to rightfully earn her spot in the UH record books. When she moves on, some Hawaii fans will then truly find out how much she was under-appreciated and how her talents and field presence were taken for granted at times. She was TREMENDOUSLY under-appreciated in 2010.
Mililani was represented in full force over the weekend with former Mililani HS teammates FSU centerfielder Courtney Senas and Rainbow Wahine 1st baseman Makani Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu taking each other on and designated player Leisha Li’ili’i also caught up with Senas as well as they are obviously familiar with each other.
Associate head coach Deirdre Wisneski said that FSU resembled the likes of an NMSU in their hitting, so we still have yet to get challenged with opposing speed and pressure on the bases.
#25 DePaul did that quite a bit but, obviously to no avail.
Kevin, this year, more then any other year, Stephanie Ricketts has elevated herself to Elite Pitcher Status. What has got her there this year, is her composure in the circle. What I mean by that, in other years she would get upset by a bad call or play. This year, she just smiles and continues to pitch, not letting anything bother her. Mark of an elite pitcher.
Its like a really bad Steven Segal movie: “Hoko, Hoko, you in there Hoko. You know you can’t hide from me Hoko.” Have we even confirmed that he is a qualifier?
A really bad Steven Segal movie?
You’re insinuating there was a good one.
Fehoko Funaika is the most interesting recruit ever pursued by Hawai’i.
Im not talking about his massive 6-6, 340 lb frame or his prowess and athletic ability to literally obliterate anyone unfortunate to be in his path.
Not.
Im referring to the Huck Finn of college football, that has traveled farther on his visits
than Tom Sawyer did in a lifetime traversing the Mississippi. And this riverboat chancer with the boyish smile is having fun. His photo with Charlie Weis in Kansas was classic. He wore the same face of satisfaction that Michael Oher gleamed next to Leigh Anne Tuohy.
The San Mateo kid looked like a freshly fed fox in a pepper patch.
Hoku is having fun on his meandering, serendipitous adventure that has seen him traverse five time zones to points farthest east, west and south in the USA. At every venue he has walked the red carpet reserved for dignatories. All the while breaking out an approving smile and poker face. He makes everyone glisten when he arrives….and when he departs.
Each host with a sense of smell for the hunt, but none with the satisfaction of seeing the quail go down.
I hope we get this guy.
If anything because he has played the collegiate world to the step of his tune.
Not the other way around.
Hoku, you are a dude! A real maverick on the road.
Hilo’s been absolutely gorgeous lately, lots of sunshine, great for the garden…wish we could have some of that HNL rain, shucks!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RNDNlhYl58
Doesn’t LSU get innundated with tornados each year?
I am happy for corey for a great workout, however he is a UFA not draft pick-may have a chance as a special teamer. He just doesnt have the size
MIH, not only tornadoes, but huricanes also, one nearly wiped out New Orleans, remember.
didn’t know that a player like ff takes his recruiting coordinator from san mateo when he visited LSU. not insinuating anything, but is LSU recruiting FF or is the recruiting coordinator part of the deal. i neva knew that a school can bring in a recruit and a coach.
Fehoku,
if you wait until april to decide, my feeling is odda peeps gonna decide fo you. i hope not.
you belong in Hawaii. coach like make a runnin team, wit Tight Ends and all. dat be your deal. plus coach goin build to da pass. dat be you too.
remember, a great player needs a great coach. Shaq needed Phil. Michael needed Phil.
you need a great coach. we got a Great coach.
Bruce & I gotta work on Wags, push (impress upon) him to show our guys how to present themselves more properly (videos, combines, camps, etc), even though most don’t have a whole lot of $ to do a lot of traveling. Just so you all know, Bruce continue to bust his butt to bring combines/camps to the Big Island at KSH or Kea’au so coaches can see what we have & the kids get used to what they need to do to step up to the next level.
Hey, now you folks even have hail falling on Oahu (6PM news)!
Akoakoa loves rain, don’t know about the hail…..
BHF2, where are you?
plus, we get choke Latu ohana here in Kona. and Fehokos in Honoruru. but mostly, get us Hawaiians. guns. π
Tim Tulloch, the recruiting coordinator at San Mateo, came to LSU with Fanaika and said the next step in the process is choosing a destination.
from ESPN blog.
Whitey, please do not use FF to designate Fehoko, people might mistake you talking about Falyn Fonoimoana.
Yes! 6’4 Soph OLB from Baldwin High Jordan Hoiem has been offered by Norm Chow.
Steve, no argument, but I thought we talking football. My mistake if we talking about vb.
Whitey-
I knew what you meant.
Whitey, I know you are talking football, but some people might just see the FF without realizing you are talking football, and start rumors about Falyn may be going to LSU. Just saying.
Like I said, no argument, no need explain, if miss, that’s ok, but hard to start rumor when coach is from San Mateo Jr College, not USC.
A-joe, and neva mind laughing. I heard that!!!!!
whitey,
How come you talking about French Fries?
heheheh
d1, cause wen bhf2 and hilobilly was talking about hilo, first thought came FF cured and sliced pork. I better pay attention what is being posted. So solly!!!

frank, cause you make one mean cured and sliced pork, but honestly, your dog is not up to standards.
whitey…no worry i got you man.
i knew that your ff was in reference to filipino f-something…right?
actually i’ll bet that two thirds or more of the people lurking, posting, trolling, and/or spamming did not know that ff could have referred to falyn fonoimoana.
i’ll bet a lot of folks will be checking out taylor graham toss the rock this spring even though he is a year away from getting on to the field.
d1, i wanna be the guy who “sokes” the bean bags.
al, you mean tg…right?
OK, count me in the 2/3… I thought ff was Fearless Frank. π
al, nah, as alright. ff is just around the corner. now, let them figure that one out, but like i said walang problema. al, porgot, salamat po.
frank, you mean “toe gam”???
SteveM, lucky you no was on the interisland cruise. was high surf at entrance of kahului harbor, but they made it out.
wonda if we going get zapped. frank, gotto admit, you got a good one there.
Hey people, did you know al is actually Andrew Luck. Why do you think he has all these secrets.
now that i have confused myself, goin brake.
who is andrew luck??? Lucky Luck’s brother????
Whitey, no, Andrew Luck is Pot Luck’s brother, thought you knew that.
whitey–I would have liked to see the departure from the harbor. 900+ feet of ship going out an opening with only 40 feet on each side? What’s the theory? Aim for the opening and go out fast–the sheer mass and momentum to overcome the breakers? I’m curious. Can’t get slammed going out slow–people might spill their drinks. π
i only know lucky luck and pot luck.
speaking of foods, frank’s or otherwise, sausages and the like…kukui sausage recently came out with a new one.
pastele sausage…ono da bugga.
say no more.
Frank’s Foods get the best Portuguese Sausage
Happened to talk story with a couple players tonight at a UH scholarship dinner. They said that the new coaching staff is definitely stricter….and really working them hard.
BTW, they mentioned that Spring practice starts in 2 weeks….I think they said the 20th….at 3:00 PM in the afternoon.
kapakahi, great day to start. first day of spring is 21st, so right in the swing of things. food to hear that they getting back to discipline football.

whitey — last I heard, the practice/scrimmage on Maui will be on April 21. Have you heard anything different? In any event, some Tsai-kos are heading your way.
SteveM, this year, going get choke with fans when they come to Maui. People of Maui are very appreciative of UH since they last came here, then basketball, then volleyball, again basketball, softball, and now women vb. Also for thos e Tsaikos planning to come to Maui for the practice, Hawaiian Air just released a ticket fare of $69 each way to any island. This is to celebrate the new hubbing of HA interisland and later directs to LAX. Already got SEA, LAS, and SAN. Tickets must be purchased by March 12th, I think.
Tonight, get plenty rain, but lucky not too much wind and no lightning.
days going by fast and wafan said time change to daylight saving this Sunday. Already???
ok, another brake.
2200 news shows Maui to get hit hard by the showers…and hitting your home area first. whitey — better hunker down in some shelter with drink and fuud for the night in Kahului. I think you know where they are. π

boy scouts, be prepared.
Diet colas not going keep you warm in the middle of the night during a storm. Better use it as a mixer. π
Diet colas don’t work.

I wonder how Coach Chow keeping close watch on the recruits. He’s here, they’re there. I know the players now on the team feeling the new coaches are stricter than the past, more discipline on the players.
