Ope Howzit Baddahz…

Cannot wait for see Blaze “Impact” Soares back to full health knocking heads! PaiPai “Make You Cry” Falemalu laying the smack down dis year! Kealoha “Pretty Boy” Pilares performing at All-WAC level! Rocky “Chut Yo Mout” Savaiigaea piledriving people into da turf!
Good morning…(?)!
Great pix, ST
Looks like the Tsai-ko Ohana had choke fun singing Karaoke…
Hey, how come I wasn’t invited? Kidding, I’m not much of a singer anyway. 😉
See you at today’s vote…
Aloha, Talofa, Ohayoo, and Gutenmorgen-
Tsaikos, Tsaikettes, and errybody else, I have been away from the WB for a LONG time… I guess it took me longer to decompress from the past season than I thought I would… Like Pauoa Boy @ #5 I’m excited for the upcoming season as well… I mean if the Arizona Cardinals can make it to the Super Bowl, ANYTHING can happen. Imua Warriors, and “Play Like a Champion Today”
NEO
Eh Howzit Shauna…
Eh you went Roosevelt ah???
Pauoa Boy: Yup, RHS c/o ’95… You too? 🙂 What year?
I grad same year as your sistah Tara in 97…
You grad same year as my bruddah…
OK, next KK we’ll invite all of the in-house blogs.
Pauoa Boy: Wow, what a coincidence… I guess you need to stay anonymous though so you won’t tell me you or your brother’s name, huh? Does your brother comment on the blogs also?
NEO:
I think the team will do better this season.
It’s easier to rebuild a defense than an offense.
And it’s easier to open a season at home against Central Arkansas than on the road against Florida.
Stephen: Ack!! You know I was just kidding! Though it would’ve been cool to see everyone else sing… Did YOU sing? 🙂
By the way, Shauna can dance.
And she used to be in the UH band, too. I bet she was the band the same time as Chawan Cut and Lefty.
Shauna:
I actually hurt myself. I was doing the dance to “Low,” and I think I went low when I should have stayed high.
Hey! It is the core of the Tsai-ko Marching Band!!!
Whoo-hoo!
Hello Tsaikos! Haven’t blogged in forever but just wanted to say howzit to everybody. Looks like everyone had fun at the KK last night.
Alrighty, back to watching the Pro Bowl.. bbl 🙂
OMG! I would’ve loved to see you dancing to “Low” and hope someone got that on video!!! Show me your moves in the office next time. You totally crack me up! 😆
Yeah, Chawan Cut mentioned the band connection before… Lefty never commented on my blog. Cough cough, hint hint … 😉
Good pix, Mr. Tsai.
ST – wow, u danced to “Low” from Flo-rida? Gotta see that..
..”apple bottom jeans, boots w/ the fur..the whole club was looking at her, she hit the floor, next thing you know..shorty got low, low, low..”
Yes, and I gave that “big booty” a smack.
I assume that nobody videotaped last night’s KK singing for the rest of us to “critique”….. 🙂
Shauna – Nah he no blog dat often, he work too much…his blog name is ICYUL8. First name is spelled Dee You Ess Tea Eye End…
This will be a slooooooooooooow day on the blog as many still recuperating from last nite’s KK.
Maybe not even reach 100?
ST, good neighbor:
Up so early? Figured you would not rouse until afer 1 pm.
Has Coach Mack started the interview process for the 2 new coaches? Any word on who the applicants are? Did you post that both front runners have “tons” of NFL experience or are they college coaches with lots of line experience?
I think A-Joe might have shot some video.
Great to see photos from the K-Kall! Awesome that 3 blogs were represented.
its Tricky…
Tricky tricky tricky tricky
to rock a rhyme to rock a rhyme
thats right on time…
its tricky….
yeah, i was in the band the same time as either Shauna or her sister, or both.
Stephen continues to impress with his wide array of lyrical knowledge. James too. Or is that the green bottle?
A-House:
Wena woke me up at 8 as she headed off to work.
Work?
On a Sunday?
Did I mention we’re getting 10 percent cuts if our union leader — Wayne C. — has his way today?
I might be the only dissenting vote when the paycut gets ratified. But even if I lose 520 to 1, I’m going to make him cry.
And Dara Young was there, too.
chawan_cut: Hey, we were just talking about you! Were you at karaoke last night? 🙂 I remember that song…
Pauoa Boy: Sorry, I’m not quite catching that spelling… You guys went to Kawananakoa also? His blog screen name is pretty cool!
By the way, if we ratify today, then even all of the managers/editors are geting similar 10 percent paycuts, too.
It’s gonna be one grouchy newsroom tomorrow.
Aloha All…Just pau church…
Aloha to Corey Nielsen who is boarding his plane soon back to Cali
Who’s Dara Young?
So, in review, all of the union folks and all of the non-union folks are expected to get 10 percent paycuts if this is ratified today.
But do you know who’s not going to get a paycut?
Yep, Wayne C.
shauna,
ask stephen about that song…
Chawan:
Dara Young was the attractive woman I introduced to you. (She’s also Shauna’s bud.)
is that the one with no nickname? did i say anything stupid? i think i ran away without being polite and making conversation.
Yikes! 😯 If so, we will need a larger facility! Next step up in scale is to hire a pro karaoke equipment group like Esme’s friend or my friend. Come to think of it, hiring such a group for 6 hours would cost less the KK big room for 5 hours. We would need a place though, where we can bring our own potluck and BYOB.
To tell the truth, that has always been Karaoke Call Plan C for when we exceed 60 persons. We hit 54 people last night– I think any full joint blog venture will exceed 80…
Shauna,
Yup I went to Kawans too…he never. Dustin his name…
ST,
Condolences on the 10% pay cut. Why wouldn’t Wayne C get a pay cut when everyone else is?
Stephen: Dara went last night? I haven’t seen her in ages! BTW, are you going to that media mixer on Tuesday? And tell me about that Tricky song!! 🙂
i need to learn from stretch or james as far as communicating with the other gender.
Shauna:
What time is the meeting today? Is it at the place across from Ala Moana?
Steven: Run DMC!!! I have a new rap partner…woohoo. They didnt have that song on list. My friend and I perform that song in front of the whole student body at Moanalua Middle! Thats how I know it.
Shauna: Didnt we go to school together at Kawananakoa? I think your sis was in my Japanese class at Soto mission. BTW I barely have enough time to blog on this one. Stretch basically called me a “Tsudo-Tsaiko”. Did I just create a new word?
Thanks everyone for last night. Good food and good times!
And let’s not forget, thanks to matchmaker Esme, we might have our first inter-blog romance.
It is crazy that Texas A&M had *two* Junior Days in January! They already have a commit from the #4 QB in Texas in the 2010 class. They have 30+ offers out already.
Today Texas is having their first of two Junior Days. So far Texas has 4 commits, with news of other commits about to leak out. The latest commit is Colt McCoy’s younger brother.
Garret:
Don’t forget A&M is getting Brian “Smash” Williams, a running back from Dillon High.
Stephen,
Please apologize to the attractive Ms Dara Young when you see her next.
didn’t you see me sitting in the corner behaving myself?? I don’t have any game. JJ on the other hand…….
Then again, A&M might get punished. I’m not sure teams are allowed to give tryouts during practices.
Stephen: It starts at 2:30. Not sure if it ends at 4:30 or 5. If you’re working today they are bringing a ballot box by. Yeah, and it’s in that hard-to-find place by Ala Moana… Inter-blog romance between who? BTW, did you know Esme and I used to dance together? Oh boy, maybe my world is in the Tsai-ko world! 😆
lakerj32 aka “lefty”: Ah, so you’re lefty… If you tell me your name I’ll can tell you if we did go to school together. Japanese school!! Don’t know why I started that so late… I was in the class with all the little kids as opposed to everyone else who were with people in the same grade. I quit though… And can’t you make just a little time for one more blog? 🙂
ST,
Too bad Smash had to choose them instead of Texas…don’t they film parts of the show in or near Austin? It would have been easy for them to add some college stuff if they sent him to Texas.
Actually, I only saw Stretch standing in the corner next to his bud, Weiser.
We were trying to watch the matchup, but Koakane kept moving his big ol’ head in the way, and by then JJ was setting like the 6 o’clock sun.
Is this a dead period?
I think I see some blog recruiting.
shauna,
i just saw your blog. (sorry if i’ve been MIA). we made that bacon explosion for our super bowl party last week. we also made the hamdog.
pics here.
http://www.sportshawaii.com/sh/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=30364
stretch, you are correct, i am sorry for placing you in the same boat as James.
ST – Everyone wants to be Tsaiko, no need recruit. They recruit us… damn, I sound like June Jones
Stephen,
Did Dara decide upon a blog name? I think I told her that the name chooses you.
Maybe I should change my name to Lame-O.
stretch, yeah, know what you mean. we don’t make house visits.
cc – maybe (hopefully) our JJ will change that recruiting practices…..
watching the pro bowl halftime.
since when do hula dancers & fire knife dancers go with enrique iglesias and ciara and all those “USA all star cheerleaders” groups.
Chawan:
You may give her a name. But, I must say, based on JJ’s success last night, I think the Dean Martin approach is the best way to make new friends.
stretch,
ha. good crossover joke.
Sorry, I don’t know Dean Martin’s approach. is it ger drunk and almost fall over in the lap of the girl??
I am not a crooner like JJ or Jason. I also do not have the assistance of the green bottle to make me forget my lame-ness.
Stretch:
Actually, it is.
I also do not think I have the right to name anyone, especially her.
I only have names for referees and any other team or player that plays against us. I do not think those adjectives would be appropriate for Ms. Young.
Mamma mia, here I go again
My my, how can I resist you?
Mamma mia, does it show again?
My my, just how much I’ve missed you
Yes, I’ve been brokenhearted
Blue since the day we parted
Why, why did I ever let you go?
Mamma mia, now I really know,
My my, I could never let you go.
OK, that was one inside joke too many.

When we are at a place like Krazy Karoke, we are on the clock–we are being charged for the room time whether we sing or not. The big room lists for $150/hour with a quantity discount available. After numerous tailgates and karaoke calls, it seems to me that the ideal Karaoke type party/get-together would follow a timetable similar to this:
5:30 – 7:00 PM — meet, eat, talk story, etc.
7:00 – 9:30 PM — karaoke
9:30 – 10:00 PM — break time for karaoke vendor, talk/eat, short program
10:00 – 12:30 — karaoke
I think there is going to be one embarassed lady today. I just hope she doesn’t happen to stumble on to this site.
wow, I din’t know the blogosphere was so musically talented… ST dancin’
to some Flo-Rida (he’s from Florida incidentally…) Shauna in the UH band, Kelli played the Clarinet, Lefty and Chawan in the band too… NEO is a Saxophone player (still playing)… We should get together and rock out!
NEO
O.k. I’m officially jealous.
ST is the Warrior Beat working? I have been trying to watch the replay but all I see is a symbol with a dotted line going around in a circle.
Hiya Tsaikos.
okay. this is the official view from the end of Lagoon Drive by the airport.
the boat is right there. right right there. sideways. super stuck.
we also went out by Keehi Lagoon, along the channel to the far outside buoy, and the boat is inside the buoy, way inside, even the fishing boats don’t go that far inside, and the bugga is inside and on the reef and listing makai in the front.
and as I wuz paddling wit my buddies to the front of Point Panic, i wuz tinking about all the good peeps had at KK last nite, the great singing, the great friendships being made and renewed, and all the hope that Ralph and I wuz expressing for Warrior Nation, and how lucky we are to have Coach Mack. And I wuz reminded dat this was his first year as coach. And all the other first year coaches. In fact, all of them was first year coaches last year.
so when I’m looking at the Pro Bowl on TV now, and i think about whats going on around the rest of the nation, I’m thinking we are super lucky we live Hawaii, and are blessed with the talent and support that is ours at UH. and the recruits have hope for themselves. and for us. I say yea!
Go Warriors!
you think Coach Mack takling to Andy, seeing if he like stay Hawaii and help out? 😀
back in a few..
Looks like everyone had a super time last night.
I knew that I would be missing out on one of the best KKalls last night, Darn work.
I swear, I should never miss a KK again. I only got one-fourth of the work I needed to get done finished anyways …
da wife says she and LizK and Liz’s friends had a great time at the Pro Bowl. Lots of pictures. the wife had lots of comments about her Colt Brennan Redskin’s shirt. great day for her. great day for me.
Pretty fun Pro Bowl. Didn’t see all of it, but enough of it to be sure that Larry Fitzgerald is Mr. Big Play. It’s been a good 30 years. Hopefully the state’s received some net gain despite having to pay the NFL for the privilege of hosting the event.
Just got back from the meeting. The “no” voters are probably going to lose, but at least I spoke.
Make that, I was the ONLY union member out of more than 200 in the room to speak.
I felt like Jerry Maguire. Well, I guess this is how it’s going to have to be …
Boy I’m glad I didn’t turn those lights back up and yell “Hand check!” 😯
The things you miss when you are inputting songs….
The professionalism displayed by Andy Reid, and the comments by Chris Collingsworth on Andy’s thoughts about Hawaii “…great place, but lets get this over and go already…” something like that anyway.
great reminder to our guys that when it comes to football, there is the elite level and then there is the ELITE level and then there is the ELITE level. gotta dream big, BIG BIG if you wanna play real football.
Stephen,
I’m sad to hear how things are turning out in the contract negotiations.
So I take a break at lunch time to watch the beginning of the Pro Bowl and the first thing outta Al Michaels’ mouth is that this is the last football game for six months! 🙁
I couldn’t watch anymore…
Now, now. There’s always the UH spring game at the stadium on the last Saturday in April.
….actually I did watch until the first TD.
One thing I’m gonna miss about the Pro Bowl is that it’s the only game at Aloha Stadium where I am not in the minority of fans who properly salute the flag during the playing of the National Anthem.
Susan said had one supah big blahlah on da field. Adams 6’7″ 340#.
and I wuz tinking about LaCount. 😯
Thank you Stephen….
and that’s why I read the Warrior Beat! 🙂
bhf2,
If Kainoa LaCount ends up playing like Flozell Adams I’ll be a very happy Warrior Fan!
Stephen,
Very nice pics, btw.
LaCount is a very good talent. And let’s not forget he’ll have two years remaining. But it’s going to be very difficult for him to win a job in 2009. The guys in spring training are going to be far ahead.
i suppose the timing of the star bulletin announcing 17 layoffs and a reduction of services earlier this week did not help the HA employees position. perhaps, many were stifled and possibly intimidated in these times, not wanting to place a target on their backsides.
i applaud you stephen for being the defender of what is right.
whoa – al is alive. I was getting worried when he didn’t show up to Karaoke
i was waiting for you to pick me up.
Gooooooooood Afternoon Tsaikos and Tsaikettes!
Just got back from babysitting duties. Whew! Mean hangover this morning. Not a drop of alcohol last night, but the company was intoxicating.
Had a rockin’ good time at the K-Kall last night! Nice pics ST.
Thank you to Stretch and SteveM for taking care of the venue arrangements. Thanks d1 for the masterful juggling of songs.
LK – Thank you for the name/drink/key tags. Everyone was very good about checking the bottles for tags (making sure they got back to their owners) before throwing them away. Throughout the evening, a few escaped from their owners including one found in the parking lot. Kekoa, that last sip must have been a doozy.
We had a great spread that only rivals a T-gate. Homey’s gau gee is just as big as Koakane’s gau gee.
It seems as if all had a good time. In addition to the signature songs, we also had a whole new repertoire of songs some of which (dare I say that I was feeling a little dated) I had never heard before.
Uh…Jamesie, you knew the words to that low low low low low low low song a little too well. (I caught you not looking at the screen).
Speaking of low low low………..low low low…..I saw ST do a full split……twice. Bet he does a mean limbo.
Homey became an honorary mama last night.
Someone gave Annodah Dave a shot of nerves,……I mean CR. That was a
twinklingsparkling performance you gave. Thanks to Colomaohana for the awesome melt-in-your-mouth rice krispie balls. Rob25 and I were wondering who made them.
Now I just need to find out who made those awesome spring rolls. Anyone want to share?
Esme– a-joe was practicing and guess who got to be you. We practiced so much, I was almost tempted to grab that mike from you. But after hearing you sing, it was better that I didn’t. You are a tough act to follow.
It was great to meet Esme’s Mamas.
Dara, it was good meeting you. I’m sure we’ll meet up again. I have three words for you…..off-season activities.
Kekoa and Diana– Soooooo glad you made it for a night out.
bbl. Chirashi calls.
How is Mack dealing with the offensive line issues?
I like that he brought in Brett Leonard as a mid-year but what else has he done. Who projects to start at the tackle positions? I’ll be shocked if Lacount can’t beat out Aaron Kia.
A-Sports:
That was a thorough report.
I guess it’s true: You didn’t drink.
Good job. Now, if only you would sing …
Addendum to #103….
Mrs. LTUH’s lemon butter mochi was ooooooono. If I was squirrel, my cheeks would be full. Did you notice my bulging pockets as we left?
Justin:
Leonard, I believe, is really the only one who was targeted to compete for a job. Carlos Savala would have been the other. But that didn’t work out.
Entering recruiting, UH believed it already had two guys ready to break into the lineup: Raphael Ieru and Ray Hisatake. I think both will get their shots in their one-and-done year.
Jordan Loeffler is going to be good, but he’s looked at more for the future.
I think Benson Maafala is going to be outstanding.
They also like a couple of the walkons — that Bronson guy from Damien and David Garness from Alaska.
ST-
If we can get a-joe to do the driving, maybe I will. You see, the singing usually comes after the drinking….
By the way, I think that was UHfan808’s best “Funky Cold Medina” yet.
2 ProBowl Highlights…
1. Mufi Hanneman working the front row crowds saying without a doubt the Pro Bowl will be back and then people chanting “Pro Bowl Before RAIL!”
2. Watching Liz Chun trying her damn hardest to get some post game interviews. I felt bad for her as she would chase down player after player trying to get a few words but none seemed to give her the time of day.
That Bronson guy?!?!?!?!
Geez. At least you remembered Damien and did not say he is from that school by FHS and KS.
Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
ST — I agree about UHfan808’s rendition last night! People note yours was the best ever too, but I think it’s because all your backup singers on that song have had a lot of practice too… 🙂
The thing that irks me about some TV folks is they always say: “Hi, I’m with the NBC affiliate…” or something like that.
You never hear us say: “Hi, I’m with the USA Today affiliate …”
ST & Tsaiko Blog Dogs,
A very big Mahalo to Stretch and Steve M for setting up the KK. It was really a gas to say the least …I really felt that besides a common love for WB, the Tsaikos have karaoke talent! I am a one trick pony…that song which you have pictured me singing is the only one I know the words to!!?? Single Malt Scotch scrambles the brains. This is the first time I heard Esme sing, now I understand all the previous blog entries on her talent…besides her personality.
Yes, the classic Lion Sleeps Tonight was noteworthy with a full chorus of background singers.
oh yeah, forgot to thank LK who made those drink tags/key chain thingys. very smart.
Thanks for the fun night! It was good seeing everyone and meeting some few faces. 🙂 Thanks ST for posting that picture. I look kinda weird.

Notes-
See the trend in the 2009 recruiting class, the athletes in the secondary position are faster and a lot bigger in size
Looking at the last 5 recruiting classes at the secondary position
2005-
Of the 19 recruits signed
2 S- Kirk Alexander, Erik Pederson
1 CB- KayBrin Stevenson
2006-
Of the 19 recruits signed
0 S
6 CB-Chris Camacho, Lucious Henderson, Keenan Jones,
Spencer Smith, Myron Newberry,Kenny Estes
2007-
Of the 20 recruits signed
0 S-
3 CB-Le’Marcus Gibson, Kenny Graham, Erik Robinson,
Of the 2005, 2006, 2007 recruiting classes out of 58 players recruited only 12 in the secondary position-with only two players returning on the 2009 roster, Spencer Smith and Kenny Estes(and unlikely starters).
2008-
Of the 23 recruits signed
S-
6 CB-Chris Black, Jeramy Bryant, Steven Christian, Lewis Walker,
Steve Stepter, Christian Vasconcellos
In comparison a team like USC:
2005, 2006 and 2007 out of 64 recruits 11 were from the secondary position
Note-Just have time to look at the secondary, maybe some other time another position. I just wanted to give insight of how the recruiting was back in the 2005-2007 years to show how it’s comparing to the last couple of years. What’s a credit to Coach Mack is that not once have I heard him on a talk show or read a hard copy of him bemoaning the fact that recruiting was indeed lean in the 2005-2007 classes.
Looking at Boise football recruiting the trend is that talent wise they are far and above the rest of the WAC. At a lot of positions they have quite a few players that rank high nationally at their positions out of high school.
But with UH, I see the trend where a lot of our players the last couple of years came from the JC ranks(20 out of 55 recruited players) it’s hard to gauge how they compare at their positions nationally as it would for the current high school recruits.
One sports show said it’s all about getting the talent. And I agree. But starting with the 2009 class if we keep up this trend of attracting and landing the three star type athletes every year (I think it was 12 this year) and then set goals in future years like trying to get at least 12-16 3 star athletes annually, then after while we’ll start seeing the 4 star type athletes coming here, too. I would bet money on this. But what helps, though, is that the rest of the leagues has to get better. So that the league as a whole gets better, which in itself is a big selling point in potential recruits selecting Hawaii and the WAC over MWC, CUSA or PAC-10.
But looking at the trend of the 2009 class what I’m seeing at the secondary position how big and how fast they are and this is a good precedence to follow in the future recruiting classes. Even at other positions, most notable is the WR position I’m also seeing the bigger, taller and faster type athletes recruited in the 2009 class. Likewise with LB position, a lot of the bigger, faster type athletes are coming in (starting with 2008 class). Likewise with the OL and DL positions are showing a lot of gradual improvement over past years.
What’s a given is that this year we’ll see quite a few players getting on the field for the first time and tasting their first blood at the collegiate, varsity level. Some have been out of football for a year. So they’ll have to get into it fquickly, the spring practice, summer conditioning and fall camp. Positions that are open, like the LB, DB, DT and OT, OG, WR and maybe even RB we’ll see new faces in these positions. From this point on, though, it’s all about who what’s it the most, which player whats to emerge as a starter. And, really, for the returning players and for the JCs and the freshmen recruits unlikely to redshirt the race is on. Yes,indeed.
Awesome work Roysan 16!
Thanks for the insight!!!
Time to check for cracks.
See you tomorrow morning!
Good evening Tsai-kos!!
Whew, took a while to catch up. Great pics from last night. Mebbe I’ll make a KK sometime, when he$$ freezes over….
ST – the union guys NEVER take pay cuts, they just get richer. Ever took a look at their salaries? Mebbe it’s time for brother Mike to do that annual story on the salaries of the heads of the major unions – HGEA, ILWU, Teamsters, UHPA, etc. These guys make almost as much as some CEOs. I have no love for HGEA, they totally ignored my requests for help when the School of Public Health was being closed.
ST – 10% pay CUT = 10% LESS work? hmmmm….
Off topic – saw “Taken” this afternoon. High body count kinda movie. Not great but not terrible. Liam Neeson is looking oooold… 🙁
Hiya!
What a fun game! On the way home and forgot to bring my phone charger 🙁
I no understand how they increase my subscription rate, do away with my tv weekly and now reduce the employees wages. Where is all the money going?
labrat:
maybe for big bosses “perks” inlcuding salary.
was so disapointed 2 Sundays ago when we could not find the TV guide – then we see a very, very small 1 sentence article that it is being discontinued and look for guide in the Mid-Week – real bummers!!!!!!!!
Working for commission, it’s a wild ride every year and seeing the paycheck getting smaller and smaller monthly as the economy gets worse and worse.
The most favorite comment from the company is that the commission will be less, but the premium is higher therefore we do not lose – but they are high salaried individuals so they no care how the economy goes. Gosh, this sounds like the high paid CEO’s on Wall Street and the financial institutions – high salary, perks, stock options, etc.
roysan16, post#117 terrific analogy, mahalo for the run down…sounds like everyone at the kk had great fun and terrific pictures, now i know what some of you look like…got to take up singing lessons….
Interesting there, I might take a looky next weekend if I have time.
On a similar off-topic: Last night I saw the first part of “Che”. Despite it being a biased film, it was actually pretty good. It’s not so much a biography of him from life to death as it is about his partaking in the Cuban Revolution and how the movie tries to depict it from his frame of reference. And I will say that if you’re looking for your typical Hollywood action/drama sequences in this movie, you’ll be very disappointed.
A-House, count your blessings. Car salespeople I spoke to have the same quotas to meet and get canned if they don’t make it.
ST- regardless of the outcome, I believe good things are in store for you. Too much good Tsai-ko karma built up to let you down.
10 mins left…
I like roysan16’s rundown on talent/recruiting in his post #117. The pictures from the KK look great. I wonder how much longer until the Tsaikos will have to find a new, larger venue for future KK’s.
LK-internet for $9.00/an hour or $.15 min at HNL I think is a fair price. Not bad. You’re the consummate tsaiko for sure…always keeping up with the blog…and if battery die out and forget to bring charger happily for you there’s the HNL internet. Safe trip home.
ST you got too much good Karma! Whatever happens, happens. The cream always rises to the top. The HA need people like you!
Esme, whatever happen to Jenn Bonenza?
Can us Tsai-kos protest in some way this pay cut and stuff without hurting the HA workers?

Mrs. LTUHF thanks you and others for the compliment; she’ll be glad to make it again for any other KK or tailgate occasion.
in honor of our football coach did any one sing *mack* the knife at the super kk??
http://old.yoursonglyrics.com/mack-the-knife-bobby-darin/
whenever I hear this song I think of the coach
and it’s one of my favorite songs, always will be
jenny diver, sukey tawdry and lucy brown…now that mack is back in town
seems like it would be a hard song to sing
happy at reading at how exciting the kk was and everyone enjoying themselves.
Hey Fred long time no see
Interesting analysis of the Wonderlic results over the years. The players on D all average the same scores, though the DTs are slightly higher (20) than the other positions–LB/S (19) and CB (18). On offense, the results are much more varied, with the QB and OL scoring the highest as expected. Interesting rule of thumb that the Wonderlic score is lower the farther a player is away from the center.

Hi Duffer, Yeah I ‘ve been lurking most days just waiting for NLI day and see how UH fared. How are you doing? Are you and Whitey planning to make a KK one day? Good fun and entertaining…
duffer
did you get the pc running again?
Hi Al,
We missed you at the KK….Hope you are OK…
I am back to blog! Senior year is rough. Recruits look real good. I am excited to see guys like Steven Christian take the field next season. He sounded like a stud when they recruited him last year.
hey there ltuh!
glad to see you about.
Just talked to hubby a little while ago. He is in GA (just over the line from FL) on TDY and, of course, is having trouble sleeping. He went to buy beer but surprise!! Illegal to buy alcohol on Sundays in GA, so he bought some Nyquil. Very poor substitute. hehehehe. 🙂
Al,
Thanks. Just barely made it to KK. Took meds just before going and managed to last the night.
I am only about halfway through reading today’s comments and … oh, man, some people are in troooouble … 😆
Doing away with the TV guide is just one more way we’re trying to alienate the people (“older” subscribers) who have allowed this paper to continue publishing while everything else has gone to hell. This way we can devote all of our (dwindling) resources to chasing the more desirable (younger) demographic with dreck like Metromix.
Article about players who fall through the cracks in recruiting.
Mike,
Condolences to you, Esme, ST, and the rest at the Advertiser. Everyone is going after the young demographic for advertising…but is that demographic going to subscribe to newspapers? Plus, cutbacks on sports doesn’t make sense because that is one of the things that the advertiser-friendly young demo actually read about!
I remember talking about Junior Days for years, and if I remember correctly, ST mentioned that Mac was interested in doing a Junior Day this year. Texas had their first Junior Day today and they apparently have 10 commits!

Mike – what’s your take on the lack of coverage by both papers of the Wahine bb team? Their record or the newsrooms or both?
May the good Lord keep his Hand on all of you Advertiser employees. No matter how you slice it, 10% cut is a hard row to hoe. Keep your chins up and please know how grateful we are to all of you for the richness and connectedness you bring to all of us. May better times soon come to us all.

Hi Cindy,
So glad you were able to make the KK.
We really need more of us girls to show up at these events!
Thanks for the fun Karaoke night, Tsai-kos! You guys (and gals) are super fun to be around. We should do mixers more often.
You too Eileen!
mike
funny you should bring up the tv guide issue or lack of issue. we just had dinner with an older couple who were upset that the tv guides were pulled. so this friend doesn’t know what to do now since he would highlight all the shows that he would tape for the week.
Eileen, you from Guam (671)??
what do you call a girl with one leg
Eileen
what do you call a guy with no arms and legs in the ocean

BigWave, I guess Eileen has run off, but … yes, she is from Guam. 🙂

Thank Esme…

Good morning everyone!
Dang. It is snowing again.
I really am ready for Spring and the rain.
Sorry to hear of the pay cuts at the HA. It will be difficult to keep quality people at discount prices.
Today is the 40th anniversary of the 1st 747 flight. Yep, those were the nice days of flying when the flying public was actually treated with respect.
Now, I: have to fight the urge to moo once I get to the airport. This herding and round ’em up philosophies have to change.
Time to scrape that darn ice off my windows. Ugh.
Good morning Tsaikos everywhere.
Roysan16,
good job and nice review at 117.
time fo go work. had a great weekend in Honolulu. nice weather. nice friends. have a great week, peoples!
Good morning Tsai-kos!!!
Howzit bhf2! Still in HNL, eh? Da chikkens in Keaau must be sleeping longer since you not dere to wake em up. 😆
Great Morning All!
jmxxxx,
Your next oppty to join in some Karaoke- Tsaiko-style comes a week from Saturday 😉
The Port Royal is free!
Have a great Monday erryboddy….
HiHo…
good morning tsaikos. looks like going to be a nice day. off to early meeting.
sayonara pro bowl and don’t bother to come back. part of the tourist industry may need you, but i don’t. the nfl has no appreciation, holds the state hostage for money and use, and has no aloha spirit. so as far as i am concerned, no loss.
Good morning everyone!
True — but I would excuse her from that one since I don’t think it will rated “G” … 😐
d1, SteveM – I will attend a KK when there’s about 2 ft of snow on the ground in Honolulu. 🙂
whitey – kinda have to agree with you. NFL’s comments about upgrading the stadium – they want us to put in restaurants? Are they gonna pay for that? Do they realize that this is not an NFL stadium and the major user is a greatly underfunded non-BCS school that has trouble getting 40K attendance for most games? And in this economic reality?
*stepping down off of soapbox*
looks like you guys had a helluva time! anything happening oh…say…between 2/19 and 2/28??
Morning Tsaiko Villagers!
Mixed feelings about the Pro Bowl leaving town. I can remember when you could sit anywhere in the stadium once you got in because it was so empty!
So here we are 30 years later, packed to the rafters during a dip in the economy…and still no respect! Snide remarks made about our ‘No Aloha’ stadium, (as if we nevah know)…but yet it helped pad their bottom line. NFL officials acting just like those greedy corporate CEO’s wanting more than the market can afford.
The players…like the fans, have fallen victim to the ‘suits!’
Aaahhhh take a hike NFL officials! We’re done here.
808chef…..looks like i owe you lunch. that las vegas recruit didn’t follow his heart after all.
jm2375
I don’t know if the pro bowl is a cash cow for the NFL who obviously wants more $$$.
Perhaps the NFL should pay for the renovations for Aloha Stadium or at least part of it. It’s their showcase afterall though admittedly it does bring money into our State – but those visitors that come for the Pro-Bowl are going to come anyway.
Aloha Kakahiaka!
Moving to 200 posts- here are my sweet ProBowl (at last!) memories.

Special shout out to my boss for the GREAT tix and to him, his wife and Mrs. bhf2 for a fun day in the sun!
HiHo!
Good morning, gang! Hope you all have a great week, as I keep the affected HA employees in my thoughts. Off to get some go-go stuff from Starbucks.
200!
In six more posts! 😆
Good Morning Tsaikos & Mommies….
Looks like we will have a few more people posting on the WB??
al…oh that’s right! almost forgot! i’m in town from 2/19 to 2/26 so no worries…we’ll figure something out. i might even have you choose the place as i haven’t been back home for a while.
Howzit, Tsaikos!!
Just wanted to give a big mahaloz to you all for your awesome hospitality!! You guys sure know how to make a mama feel welcome! Both my husband and I had a great time, especially since its probably the first “date” we’ve had since I gave birth in October…So, again, big mahalo!
Gotta agree with the others about having more mixers..But gotta plan early since we have 7 keiki to dump off to sitters….hahahaha!! *GRANDMA? PAGING GRANDMA!!!*
BTW, where Lefty at? I don’t recall meeting you that night (or did I???? Buwahahahaha…), but skimming through this blog, I picked up some key posts that tells me you possibly went to Moanalua High? Band geek? Trumbone or sax? Am I close????
Am I scaring you??? hahahahaah

Here’s a look at the opposing team’s secondaries and how they rate nationally. Of the 13 games played last year 9 of the teams that the UH faced were ranked 57 or better.
With UH 5 receivers sets and the opposing defenses secondaries seemingly stronger last year– does this add to the fact the QB had no one to throw to? Do you think this also might contribute to the QB getting sacked more often? Yes, I would think so, in my opinion. Although I agree the OL needs a lot of work, too.. And I agree that it’s not entirely the fault of the OL as some of the other posters have alluded to (I think pride made mention of this…he said something like…”darn it in reference to the WR not getting open”).
Furthermore, I think in the old days where we would see our WR or slots creating mismatches with the opposing team’s LB’s(whom use to be built on the heavier side and unable to blanket the WR or slot) what we’re seeing now a days is that opposing defenses linebackers(more stream lined and quicker and able to blanket the receveiver)and are easily covering our slots or WR because there becoming just as fast and quick.
And If the receivers are blanketed. And covered. And not open, then the QB has to hold onto the ball longer. If no patterns ripen, what we’re seeing is the QB getting sacked. And last year, talent wise, the DB and LB on the opposing team’s defenses were good at covering the pass.Look at the how 9-13 teams UH faced last year ranked nationally in pass defense.
One thing for sure is the OL coach get’s a lot of bad notoriety because the public and media can see the scorecard of how many sacks were allowed. And in some ways I agree that it’s not fair to pin the blame only on one coach. A lot of intangibles should be factored along side if we’re pointing at what went wrong. Was it an absence of good coaching of the OL, for like others have mentioned that maybe talent wise the tackles and guards are not up to par? Or the offensive schemes needs tweaking.?Or the other teams secondaries create havoc and the QB holds onto the ball longer which allows for more sacks? Probably all three, no?

How good were the DB’s the Warriors faced this year..
In the walters 2009 mock draft… I picked out the DB’s that UH faced this year that will probably be playing at the next level

Not very much offensive output compared to other years.
Are the defenses onto the spread offenses? And UH?
And better yet does UH have the answers in increasing offensive production
coming this season?
UH has to overcome the 22 interceptions (ranked 117), 15 lost fumbles (ranked 102), 57 sacks (ranked 119th) and penalties 78.36 pg. (ranked 119).
.How lean was the offensive output last year compared to other years…pretty lean if you asked me. Take a look.

Last year UH saw a huge drop off in offensive production, averaging about 240 yrds/passing and 100 yrds/rushing. Lack of what? Talent, coaching or the opposition’s defense are becoming better? Safe answer, and probably the right answer, would be all three. And I’d say there shouldn’t be any argument here.
Final notes. I think with the nature of how defensive secondaries are geared up into stopping the pass, with LB’s now of days with the speed and quickness of that similarly like defensive backs then it easy to see the logic where the QB’s won’t have as many wide receivers or slots wide open, which makes for the QB holding onto the ball longer and allowing for a lot of sacks. Whereas the UH WR in the past had the ability to go long down the side line, or go on a slant pattern up the middle the opposing team’s DB’s are taking away this play (because talent wise they are a lot better than our receivers) and teams therefore can gamble more with blitzes because they are not as worried about being burned on the long passes. to me this makes sense.
With how, now, we’re seeing how opposing defenses are fortified into stopping the pass having the ability to switch and run the ball would be a winning formula, like similarily like how GT beat Georgia this past year. For UH I wish when the other team takes away the pass they wouldn’t play into their strengths and keep on passing the ball. But instead run the ball.
With how pass defenses having the winning formula in stopping the one dimensional passing teams…what I do see is the likelihood of some team eventually trumping our record of allowing 57 sacks in a 14 game schedule. Really. For it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility that you’ll see teams giving up gaudy like numbers like 4-5-6-7 sacks a game and… perhaps some team soon will have the distinction of giving up 70 sacks in a season. Watch, I’ll bet anyone on this it’ll happen. The obvious is what I don’t want to see happen is that we’re the ones sadly to break our own record for I have faith that UH coaches will turn things around for this to happen again where offense, offensive line and QB got exploited this past year.
Liken the batter the comes to the plate for the second time in the game or the golfer playing the course for the second time, the UH coaches, too, should do better the next time around. And as the coaches look forward to their second trip to the fall campaign they’ve conceited that they’ll be working extra hard this off season to correct the problems….as you can see there are a lot of major problems to fix…but we love our team.. I know I do. And I along with others have faith that they will.
