An open invitation
Tentative plans call for coach Greg McMackin to announce the 2009 recruiting class Feb. 4 at Murphy’s Bar & Grill.
That’s the first day recruits may sign binding national letters of intent.
The event, which is tentatively set for 6 p.m., is open to the public.
McMackin will comment on each recruit, as well as show highlight videos of the prospects.

Aaron Bain is going to chase his dream β one that does not involve football.
Bain has decided not to attend to UH’s Pro Day, an audition for NFL scouts, and instead will focus on school. He is on schedule to earn a bachelor’s degree this summer.
Because Bain did not redshirt, he is eligible to receive a fifth-year scholarship. If accepted, he would use the money to attend graduate school.
Bain aspires to have a career in firefighting.
* * *
Jake Heun is optimistic about competing in spring ball despite lingering discomfort in his left calf. The ailment is a result of the disc injury he suffered the past summer.
When he is healthy, he faces another challenge: Remain at running back or move to outside linebacker.
* * *
This is Rocky Savaiigaea’s way of saying his left arm is fine:

Inoke Funaki said he’s proud of his new bike. He points out that “it’s red β Kahuku’s color.”
Won!
First?
Too!
Eh DPK, you moa quick den me!
Sorry ’bout that Nalani! π
Sometime us makule swim a lil more fast…
Top 10 for the first time since who knows when…..
Hows you today, anyway?
Top 10
I dragged this over from yesterdays post:
As far as the recruitment βWafflersβ who are de-commiting last minute, my attitude is: βSome will, some wonβt, so what? Move onβ¦β To the guys who are jumping ship, aloha and good luck. To the ones who are staying, even more aloha and the best of luck. We can only use the ones who want to be here.
Aloha to Coach Malloe, best wishes for you. Now is the time to follow your dreams.
please tell me that we don’t have any more de-commits.
rumors abound.
al,
I think whitey de-committed! π
Top 20!
Mmmmm….Gaelic Steak! π
Go for it, Aaron Bain…Smell smoke? Yodel fo’ Yoda!
Good luck to Jake Heun
BNS,
Long time li’ dat!
Hope you are well! π
Jake Huen is a tough puzzle to solve.
Assuming he rehabs 100%, overall I like him at OLB, becz of his experience, athletic assests and Cal Lee as his mentor.
At RB, he is raw, yet not without potential to be a productive powerback…however, I cannot point to a proven mentor to develop Jake’s latent RB skills.
Hopefully, Coach Cal, will make the call….the kid can contribute somewhere.
tsai, seems like heun’s back problems are recurring. ive had back problems since i was a freshman in high school. i tried everything up until surgery to get it fixed. nothing worked. after 3 months of pain, missing out on my whole summer, my hard head finally listened to my dad. i checked out Charley Relief (then called Marty and Charley). Works wonders. People don’t really believe in it, but I’ve sent multiple friends there and theyve all come back with great results.
Who would have thought that massaging the pressure points in your feet would relieve your back pain!
Hey, Nalani, I saw your son after workouts today.
He looks a lot stronger than he did several months ago.

Just spoke to Liloa Nobriga
The three-star linebacker prospect from Las Vegas (Nev.) Palo Verde raved about his time in Boulder. He has developed a very strong relationship with Coach Cabral. B.J. Beatty served as his player host. Nobriga said he already knows where he will play his college ball, he just has to talk it over with his paretns. Utah and Hawaii are the other finalists for his signature. Nobriga said he plans to announce his college decision in the next few days. I would be surprised if he is not a Buff.

UH coaches do not recruit young men like Maiava and Tatupu because UH coaches are not winners. Until UH hires coaches who are not afraid of dominant Samoans and Tongans, the UH will continue to lose the best that Hawaii has to offer.
Is it any mystery to anyone here why the president of SHOPO (a male dominated, macho organization) is Samoan, why the mayor of Honolulu is Samoan, why so many command sergeant majors in the military are Samoan, why so many drill sergeants in the military are Samoan, why football in the islands is dominated by Samoans?
All dogs, and most human males, are pack animals. Nothing makes a dog more uncomfortable than not knowing where it stands relative to all the other dogs in the pack. Dogs in a pack want order, they want to establish early who is the Alpha Male. Once this issue is decided, the pack settles in and starts to follow the lead of the Alpha. The problem with the UH is that the UH does not have an Alpha Male. The rest of the pack – coaches and players – understand this. This is why the coaching staff and the team has not gelled behind the appointed Alpha Male placeholder know as Mack.
David Tanuvasa, the winningest coach in McKinley High School football history and a current vice principal some where in Hawaii, is the kind of Alpha Male the UH needs to lead the team. He is bright and talented, is highly educated, has a winning record after 10 seasons as head coach of McKinley, and would be the kind of person the UH needs to have at the head of the pack.
grapes,
(responding from yesterday)
I expect Mack to come out of his funk and return to his place of integrity and honor the commitment he made to his GA last year.
We could use a few positive surprises in the recruiting wars.
I hope that Jake Heun is healthy in time for Spring Practice! He’ll have a learning curve at either position, but the key is for him to be healthy so that he can get reps. If his back can’t get in decent shape before the fall, it will be a shame because he can help the Warriors.
Sorry to burst your bubble Uce2, but the Mayor is an idiot and a wimp, regardless of his ancestry. He’s a joke.
Re# 23 hahaa, tru dat.
lava and faith,
You should go tell him yourself, tough guy. I can arrange that for you if you like. Let me know.
Why would I want to talk to him. He does not care about his “minions” bwahaha…harvard? so what.
BTW, you da original “Tough Guy” yeah?
well, jake heun played linebacker all his life and excelled at san fran cc’s ntl champs his second year. he did tote the ball some in hs and he practiced at rb this past year.
i don’t think it would take him much to pick it up on either side of the ball. the biggest deal for him is dealing with his bad back.
#23, Well said Lava.
bad back…..i do agree with some other comments earlier today about alternative healing methods. after all, back in the days long before you or i existed, these were the methods that were practiced and it still works. its almost as if we need to “get back in the box” rather than “to think outside of the box.”
howzit baddahs.
Uce:
You should tell Mack about Tanuvasa.
23
are you hpd?
Good morning all ….hope everyone has a good day…
Hope Jake Heun remains healthy…I, too, think he can contribute a bunch to the Warriors….
Hope we get some good news soon…..and often….
I’m still waiting for UH to return my calls about being a waterboy next year.
Uce2 is correct. In fact, once Obama is done in office, we need a Samoan as President. If that happens, watch all the other countries in the world bend to our every demand!
My bad, earlier post about Nobriga was from a message board, this is the full article…please remember that its a Buff writer…

Nobriga about ready to make the call
Adam Munsterteiger
BuffStampede.com
Talk about it in Football Recruiting Board
Liloa Nobriga originally committed to Hawaii but after taking an official visit to Utah in December, the Utes became the leader for his signature.
The 6-foot-2, 235-pound linebacker from Las Vegas (Nev.) Palo Verde took a final visit out to Colorado this past weekend. And the Buffaloes also made quite an impression.
Nobriga was named the Northwest Division Defensive POTY in 2008.
“It was awesome. Everything I thought it was going to be, it was,” Nobriga said of his trip to Boulder. “I liked the coaches, the players, the people, the environment. Colorado is a great place. It was a great trip.
“The thing that stood out the most about Colorado is Coach Brian Cabral, their linebackers coach. He is a great coach. He has been at Colorado for more than 20 years and he played in the NFL for the Chicago Bears. He has put so many linebackers into the NFL, most recently Jordon Dizon. I don’t know, there is just a mystic about him. I really enjoyed talking to him and getting to know him and his family.”
Nobriga is almost ready to announce where he will play his college football.
“I plan on making it fairly soon, within the next couple days,” he explained. “It is between either Colorado, Utah or Hawaii. I pretty much know who I’m going to go with. I just have to talk it over with my family and I’ll announce my decision in a couple days. I am going to be very excited when I commit.”
What are Nobriga’s impressions of Utah and Hawaii?
“Utah had a great season,” he said. “I like the coaches there. [Tight ends] coach Jay Hill is great, [inside linebackers] coach Kalani Sitake is great, [head] coach Kyle Whittingham is great. I enjoyed meeting and talking with all of them. On my visit there, I was hosted by Koa Misi and he is just a great guy. I couldn’t ask for anybody better to show me Utah and what is going on there. I had a great time there.
“With Hawaii, I am originally from there so it was great going back and seeing my old home team play. Hawaii also has great tradition. They play for everyone on the Islands.
“My final decision is going to come down to what is best for me.”
Nobriga proved that he has a nose for the football during his high school career. A two-time all-state selection, he recorded an eye-opening 306 tackles as a junior and senior.
“I have a quick first step, I get blockers off me real fast and I fill the hole,” Nobriga said. “I fly around to the ball. I have good sideline-to-sideline speed. I think I am a complete player because I am versatile. I can play middle linebacker or outside linebacker. I know my reads. I feel like I pretty much just have good football instincts. It kind of just comes natural to me. But I also work hard.”
Rivals.com ranks Nobriga among the nation’s top 90 outside linebacker prospects this cycle.
————————————
Sure sounds that Utah is on his mind more then UH…….
Yo cuz Uce, u tink das bad
I still waiting for my call back from da rainbow dancaz.
Uce2,
I used to respect your opinion. However, lately you have been an embarassment to the rest of us, those of the Samoan nations.
We were raised to respect our elders, teachers, chiefs, and God. You obviously do not represent the majority of us.
Uce2:
I think the phrase is student manager.
Hey, where is homey today???
Update on McKay.
Faith-
quoting Faith “He does not care about his βminionsβ
I wouldn’t know anything about that because I do not work for him and am therefore not one of his minions. It seems, however, based on your comment, that he might have treated you, as a minion, harshly in the recent past, otherwise, how would you have known that he treats his minions harshly.
I am sorry the mayor treated you harshly. Next time I speak with him, I will remind him to be a little more gentle with his workers and helpers. Hope that helps.
Utah State got a player from HPU.
every school nobriga visits is his favorite.
Good morning everyone!
I commend Aaron Bain for having a clear vision of his goals and pursuing his education. As a bonus, football might still be an option as he gets his degrees.
Scout says that Conrad Scheidt is still solid with his Idaho commit despite having an offer from UH. Could this be one of the surprises ST mentioned?
Garret,
I think it’s commonly abbreviated HPA.
Hawaii Prep Academy
Dude, you got issues haha. Here’s the number for Kahi Mohala (808) 671-8511
If you live and work on Oahu, then yes, you are his “minion” too ’cause you would be PAYING him to rule over you. So, since you are not what you say I am, then you are not living on Oahu or even Hawai`i for that matter?
Talk sum more den we can get more info about you =)
Stephen is BrianK still putting together videos including the highlights of the incoming recruits?
geez ST I know you said there were a few surprises but you could at least prepared us for the loss of a recruit and coach…j/k… Aloha Kimo hope U-dub turns out to be the place you expect it to be I know Sarkasian told you TE in his offense=NFL so do what you gotta do we’ll be alright. Coach Malloe good luck in the Ivy league congrats on being one step closer to your dream of being a HC. Coach Mack I know you got a plan b so I’m not worried about this cause if one goes there 10 more ready to replace them. And finally to ST MAHALO you do such a great job at keeping us TSAIKO’S in the loop and hope to get a few good surprises in the next few weeks.
what’s wrong-
If you really are Samoan, you would understand there are no Samoan “nations”. There is only one Samoa. The fact you do not know this suggests you are not the person you pretend to be. If you are, it would make no difference to me, as it is clear you are an apologist.
ST-
You are the reporter. You meet with Mack more often than most. You know about David. Tell the AD about David, then tell Mack. Thank you.
d1shima,
My mistake. I didn’t even realize I had made that mistake…isn’t HPU=Hawaii Pacific University?
DPK:
Recruiting is not an exact science.
JJ waited for the last three weeks in January to bring in recruits. His reasoning was he wanted UH to be the last visit for a recruit. That’s how he lands Manuwai, Brennan, Mouton, etc. But then JJ was criticized for waiting too long.
Mack believes in starting early, building relationships. He gets more early commitments. Trouble is, it opens the way for Washington, Colorado and UCLA to swoop in.
It’s the art of dating. Do you want Betty Cooper, the one who’s always loved you? Or Veronica Lodge, the more glamorous one?
And, no, you can’t be like that TV special where Betty was glamorous.
Hey: Mary Ann or Ginger?
Donovan or HF?
We can only accept those who want to be here, play for and represent Hawai’i. Those who’s hearts and minds will be here as they make a difference for our program, our state and especially for themselves.
It’s tough for any kid to make a profound decision that will affect their entire course through life.
Let them take all the time they need.
Choose wisely.
Ryan the video guy puts together all of the DVDs now.
ST- Which technique was used to corral HF?
Uce2, I’ll need immunity to tell the idiot Mayor what I really think of him, so you arrange that and I’m there. No offense to whatever nations claim his as their native son, but he’s a boob.
Re recruiting, have we duped ourselves into thinking Hawaii really is paradise?
The mainland guys say paradise is too far away.
The local guys say I need a break from paraside.
Based on this, it doesn’t sound like paradise to me. What are we doing wrong?
Paradise, not paraside, you idiot. π
so, i am still pulling for aulola tonga. his potential is just amazing in my opinion. while many see him as a safety or olb. his final position will be predicated by how much he grows over the next few years.
Faith-
Minion is defined as:
minβ ion
β β/ΛmΙͺnyΙn/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [min-yuhn]
βnoun
1. a servile follower or subordinate of a person in power.
2. a favored or highly regarded person.
3. a minor official.
4. Printing. a 7-point type.
βadjective
5. dainty; elegant; trim; pretty.
Merely living and working on Oahu, as you can see from the definition above, hardly qualifies a person to be a minion.
Guys like you crack me up.
I read somewhere that verbal commitments are not binding.
Actually …
When UH makes an offer, it does so in writing, promising a recruit a scholarship if certain conditions are met. Those conditions include academics, timeliness, etc.
With many recruits, they’ll say that the offer is good for a certain period. That enables the coaches to keep track of the scholarship count.
So, yes, a recruit can commit and change his mind. But UH won’t yank an offer if, say, a recruit has a lousy senior season, so long as the recruit verbals in timely fashion. But if an offer is made in, say, July and no acceptance has been made yet, the offer isn’t on the table anymore.
I heard one story about a prospect who opted to decided to go away. UH inadvertently left his name off the pass list for a game. The prospect got all hu-hu. It was an honest mistake. On the other hand, even if it weren’t, the prospect wasn’t coming to UH, anyway.
Does he not make laws that we have to live by?…read definition #1
Garret,
Yep, I’m more familiar with HPU being the abbr. for Hawaii Pac. Univ.
Re# 62
Player that was “hu-hu” gotta be Te’o…heard a similar story.
Mary Ann
ST any chance that Sun God would return to Hawaii?
(just back from a lunch run….trying this grace’s special today. hot n spicy mochiko chicken. only one scoop rice of course.)
st, i guess sometimes we just need to hear the truth from the truthful resources. thanks for clarifying those issues.
another thing, young men (17-18 yrs) are typically not yet well versed in the art of being interviewed. a cagey reporter can steer the interview in his direction all the time. therefore, i don’t read in to all that you hear/read all the time.
There were two problems with the HF hire.
First, as I understand it, he wasn’t named as one of the five finalists by the majority of the search committee. But Dobelle saw gold …
Second, and this probably hindered Dobelle, too, is HF didn’t have someone to help him navigate the political landscape. A lot of folks come to Hawaiβi, think it’s the same as anywhere else, and then they learn β the hard way β that it’s not. So nobody helped guide him, and he didn’t trust many people, and, well, people sort of got out of the way. HF is a bright guy. And he’s a great public speaker. He just needed help here. He also needed to ask for help, and he needed to meet deadlines.
I am neither a follower of nor subordinate to our mayor. You, on the other hand, must fall into one of these categories, based on your conclusions as to yourself and your standing relative to the mayor.
Again, no need for any more words on this. As stated previously, I will tell him next time we speak to ease up on people like you, people who fall into the above categories.
Am not in a position to secure immunity of the type you speak.
“Leave Maiava and Tatupu alone. Maiava will be taking over for Rey βThe Beastβ Maualuga (top 5 pick in this years NFL draft) come next year, and nothing more needs to be said about Tatupu and who he is – his record, not sissy words, speak volumes about who he is and what he can do. Maiava is still a young man and he is speaking as young do at this age.”
Above is Uce2’s comments from the prior blog. How smart is this person anyway if he does not know that Maiava is pau at USC. He waited 4 years to start and just played in the East West Shrine game, which you have to be a senior to play. Before you comment on something you profess to be an “expert” in, get your facts correct. . .duuuhhh!
ST-
If memory serves me correct, the AD and David might have played together at UH. Memory is a bit faulty these days.
okay….betty cooper because i am partial to blondes.
mary ann because ginger is a flooze.
donovan because he speaks the truth.
Uce2 = Owned bwahahhaa~
Most of all, the problem with HF is that he found out about the Hawaii opening through a headhunter, which is like finding a date through a matchmaking service. The most important thing about a match is the emotional commitment; a computer can’t measure the heart.
And that’s the same thing for coaches, players, journalists, and any other person. You have to want to be at a place β and for many reasons.
A recruit needs to find a school that fits all of his needs β academically, socially and, lastly, athletically. Every recruit is a high school all-star. Not every recruit will be a college all-star.
Willie-
You are correct. I erred. Maiava is a senior and won’t be taking over for Maualuga. He will be playing in the NFL though. Some team will pick him up. He is very good. Wish you all the best Maiava!
Actually, I’m not too familiar with David Tanuvasa, although I did speak to him a few times about recruits. Seems like a sharp guy.
I think if he’s truly interested, he needs to apply, and he needs to be aggressive in stating his qualifications. But it mostly has to come from him. I think third-party recommendations can only go so far.
Re# Tanuvasa
From this from 2003…………:
http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2003/Jan/18/sp/sp10a.html
“After leading his team a game away from the state championship, David Tanuvasa has resigned as varsity football coach at McKinley High.
“There are some personal and professional things I need to take care of,” Tanuvasa said.
Tanuvasa said he will return to the University of Hawai’i to pick up additional credits so he can qualify for pay increases. Although he said he enjoys coaching, he said he would like to consider getting into the administrative side of education, which would not allow him to coach. Department of Education rules prohibit education officers from coaching…..”
Looks like he wanted to be Admin. rather then a coach in the end game.
OT: So whos gonna watch LOST tonight? Sneak peak on the network website if so interested.
My old lady is going nuts wanting to watch this season…..should be good.
Faith-
At city level, city council (legislative branch) “makes” laws. Mayor (executive branch) executes laws.
Gotta run. Say hi to some friends at the legislature.

Thanks for the history Tsai. I sort of figured that it was that way. I imagine both philosophies have their merit. It would be interesting to see which style nets the biggest recruits. I think some of the “wafflers” can thank UH for putting them on the Pac 10 radar.
Myself, I would say “Ginger” all the way…
Howdy Herr Buller. The natives must be very safe today…
Whoa…NSF, where you eating????
DPK….we all know you like Maryann(e)
Depends on which one you’re talkin’ bout.
Now get back to work!
At the office…going away party and welcome party at the same time…anyhoo, buuurrrppp!….ZZzzzzzzzzzzz
okay i’ll start this off….
well no one has discussed the blog title topic of the day, but, i will. don’t get me wrong i like murphy and i like murphy’s. i have been known to patronize this place on occasion. and while murphy does support uh athletics as evidenced by his generosity and leadership role with the na koa program.
i just think that this sends the wrong message out to some of our current recruits, future recruits, and boosters. i would rather see this open to the public press conference held at the ssc or the wong hospitality room sans any alcoholic beverages. after all we do recruit many who by personal or religious choices abstain from alcohol. (it won’t offend those who do indulge.)
just my opinion on doing it the right way.
…nuff said.
Where is da aloha? Dave Tanuvasa is a great example of a Rainbow (Warrior) gone right. He gave back to the kids, he is following his path, nothing wrong with dat. If the hoku align…whatever. No worry about what no can worry about. All I know is no dog a Warrior. Das why a recruit should commit. No place else can say they got what we got. They talk facilities, we talk aloha. We get plenty aloha for all da bruddahs, no matter how they get here. If you want to go somewhere else, go and good luck. I know who we are, I know what we got, I know we are Warriors. Soon we gonna rock Aloha Stadium and it ain’t going to matter who commited or de-commited. Green shirts, white shirts, black shirts, whatever. We are Warriors. L.V. Baby!
Colt was interviewed by Grace Lee, channel 7, last night at the Hawaii Inaugural Ball.
He had his full facial hair and looked really filled out along the chest; like hitting the weights; made the suit look gooooooooooood.
ST:
Is it true that McKnight is coming back as an O-line coach? In what capacity? Assistant to Smith?
Any word from Coach Mack on Malloe’s slot? Has it been advertised already? Any drum beats on who’s interested?
As far as Sun God coming back, aren’t the two positions for a OL coach and GA? I think that is what was posted as the job openings.
Thanks, A-House!
um… what is channel 7?
ahouse(#105)…..almost sounds like you have a man crush on colt.

Watching the 3rd workouts for the senior bowl on NFLHD and Viekune is looking pretty good with his speed rushing.
Hopefully Heun can _get_ healthy. That’s step one.
Speaking of the injured — hope Rocky’s getting along well with his recovery. (And what about Blaze?)
Al,
Totally agree w/you on holding this press conference somewhere on campus vs. at Murphy’s. I think the admin/coaches should rethink this decision.
Bad news from our aerial corps: Mrs. Bulla will be off-island on Feb. 7, so we lose our lead Bomber, her flight wing, and the official Jager Bomber Event certification. π Lost HiFlyer to a work sked change.

Good luck to coach Malloe. At least he’ll only have to win one game a year for it to be considered a successful year.
…what qualifies AS work FOR me….whew my English Teacher would be rapping my knuckles right about now.
U-Dub might have committed an NCAA recruiting violation when it hosted 13 recruits last weekend. It would be nice for U-Dub to get into some trouble now that they are going after UH recruits…
Detailed practice notes for each day at the Senior Bowl. I’m just going to post the Warrior stuff, but click on the link if you want the full article.
David Veikune:
The section for Jake Ingram is empty for every day of the Senior Bowl practice notes! I guess the writer doesn’t pay attention to the long snappers.
Here is my guess of what the report on Ingram would read:
Monday Practice Notes: 100 perfect snaps out of 100 attempts.
Tuesday Practice Notes: 100 perfect snaps out of 100 attempts.
Wednesday Practice Notes: See Tuesday.
Article about how Utah cannot afford to pay their assistant coaches enough to keep them away from BCS schools. It is hard for me to believe that Utah’s offensive coordinator made $178k and their defensive coordinator made $193k during the season where they beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. Tennessee’s DL coach makes $600k and several BCS coordinators make $1 million now.
The thing is, the BCS dollars is not the big difference…the big difference is the TV contracts each conference has for the regular season.
Another article about all the coaches Utah has lost this offseason.
Liz – channel 7 is the Oceanic channel # for da channel where dat female sportscaster resides that most male Tsai-kos have a crush on. π π
huh, since when did malika dudley move to sports π
Stephen, does hawaii have a legit shot at getting jray galeai???? he will be visiting this weekend
Used to pick up the old Archie’s and Jughead’s just to check out Veronica and Betty. I was young, and thought I was in love. If you had to choose, how could you not go with the blonde, all things considered?
Then, I met Marcia Brady and found out what real love was all about. Marcia, Marcia, Marcia. Blonde, too.
Those were the days.
This recruiting thing is wearing. First they coming, then they ain’t. Smartest posts are the ones where folks say wait till LOI day, and don’t bother me before that!
I trust in Mack. He was recruiter of the year for a reason.
LizK:
Channel 7 = KGMB
lemme guess. kgmb channel 7 is channel 9 in kauai.
i guess jray’s visit didn’t go so well in provo.
would be really nice to have him, alo, and tonga strapping it up for the warriors.
really nice.
Come back Sun God.
It would be nice to get Jray Galea’i this weekend! He’s currently a soft commit to BYU and visited there 2 weekends ago I think. This is another example of UH bringing in a recruit that has given his commit to another school…though he’s a soft commit and a local player, so UH should have a good chance.
Smart to bring in his Kahuku teammate Aulola Tonga during the same weekend. He’s apparently a commit for UCLA right now, but they want to grey-shirt him and UH might have room in this recruiting class.
Previous update on Tonga.
al – Liz (and me) has DishNetwork, where the channel #s are what they’re supposed to be!!
Out of all the commits that Utah and BYU had, this article rates Jray the 6th best commit for both schools combined. So, UH’s gain could be a big loss for BYU.
jm411….most of us don’t have a crush on that ch 7 sportscaster.
we do agree with owen-16 and homey likes amber lyn.
jray galeai could also play point guard for nash. i think he is that good.
al….you know who I miss is Kuualoha Taylor…..
(j)j……i must say you have good taste.
now, how about olena rubin???
(j)j……ms. taylor is now married to a surgeon in san diego, however, she still does tv stuff.
so, pride. must be busy with all those employee issues.
so, i am guessing…..
a surprise will be a surprise safety. i think that may be our top priority right now.
its nearly two weeks and i won’t call the recent turnaround news exactly good surprises.
so, ever the optimist will keep praying along here.
Mahalo, tv aficionados! Shucks, I missed that one.
Thanks for the Sr. Bowl reports!
Bac to verk…
UH could have a chance. Wasn’t Viliami Nauahi verbaled to BYU, then signed with UH? We also managed to get Paipai Falemalu and Alema Tachibana last year on such short notice. C’mon boys, let’s keep the Kahuku pipeline going to UH!
Marisol Boromeo? π
anyone know what is going on with Tachibana? also sad story on Benji Keomeatu…..Silata is at Snow College in Utah doing well…….academics, academics, academics…..broken record i sound like
Will never understand the Betty/Mary Ann attraction. Veronica and Ginger, by far. Woof. Maybe Midge, too.
Sun God will not be asked back.
He wasn’t retained when this staff was assembled, so there’s no chance he’ll be asked back.
McKnight is indeed an applicant. It’s an iffy thing with him. His specialty is special teams, but that’s not the job he’s up for.
Tachibana is enrolled in school.
He’s actually been enrolled since August. He’s on scholarship now.
What’s going on with Tachibana?
how big is tachibana right now? HE was sort of a tweener coming in…
getting galeai would be siiiiiiick! i think he is good enough to play as a true fresh. one of the few HS guys that is ready.
the warriors started their conditioning program today????? need to see report by our scout team, kekoa, nalani, stretch, cc, jason, al, etc
I would love to see Heun move to running back. The linebacker position is pretty loaded with Satele, Soares, and Kauhane should be starting next season. It would be good for the scheme and a good change since the offense would like to use more emphasis on the running game. He would be like another Nate Ilaoa.
This 6’7″ 310-pound offensive tackle would be awesome for UH to land! He says he’ll decide by Sunday and UH, USF, and Kansas are his final 3. Check out Sportsbow’s post on SportsHawaii for the details.
st
thanks for the info on tachibana, that is really good news :ccol: happy for him that it is working out.
are there other gray shirts that are not enrolled in school right now?
looking ahead to spring training. headline for one day “The Moose Is Loose”. it is see that headline, no need read the rest of the story because that means the moose is blocking and running over the d.

super bowl on feb 1st and cheering for the cardinals, after that feb 4th is S Day in Hawaii. whooooooooheeeeeeee!!!!!
bulla you included on the scout team, so where’s the report?????
hope that our hs athletes in any sport is able to secure some kind of scholarship or financial aid to help further their education. it will be a big help for their families, but also it will give them an opportunity to expand their horizons and dreams. uh may not be in your plans upon graduation, but remember your growing up years in hawaii and all the people you met. that is priceless!!!!!!!
ok, whitey on roll, so going for the 5:40 pm to 5:50 pm record (if get one)
dang, try for record and computer goes beserk. see you lata.
Congratulations to Yoda! Great kid. Knew when he played at St Louis he would turn out to be a good kid. Best of luck with firefighting.

Thanks for the #147 info, ST.
So it shall be written, so it shall be done.
Hire McKnight to coach special teams could be a great idea of Coach thinks thats a great idea.
So go get an alpha male, Coach. maybe yes David Tanuvasa, maybe no. don’t make him ask; you don’t wait for players, you go after them.
make the best of these opportunities for Warrior Nation, Coach! You got an open spot. Make the most of it! Bend things. We’re not a stepping stone. UH Warriors represents the State. Us, alpha males included.
Go Warriors!!!!
I’m taking an “om” approach to recruits and prospects. Last year I was amped about Heun- but even though he became a Warrior, he was hurt before he could get some traction with the team π₯
So I’ll just say “om” and my prayers and wait til the season starts before I get REALLY excited!
hf2- I was totally in love with Yul Brynner when I was a kid… what a MAN! Now THERE is an alpha male!

Liz_K has been called plenty of things…. most recently…. “mosquito bait”! π
My 2 cents regarding reneging verbal commits? Heck, that’s part of the “test”. If you don’t keep your “word”, then you’re not Warrior material!
As for those Warriors that did initially commit to other programs? Sometimes…. it takes a little time to “see the light” and make the right decision!
Yeah, it is a circular argument, but it is only 2 cents worth of thought…. π― π π
how you doing bhf2, lizk, and brewski. going to 200 and it is break time
i know mrs al not going see this because mr al suppose to take her out to dinnah.
looking at the commit list, it is shaping up and coach mc will achieve his recruiting goals, plus have 1 or 2 scholies left for emergency.
whitey,
as far as i know, it was wet on the outside and dry on the inside, that’s the weather report not the scouting report.
off season is where you lay the foundation for in season…there is no such thing as off……your workouts are harder and more intense because all you have to do is train and study.
i know some ballers who are training at 6 am in the morning in 30 degree weather before classes, then 4 pm lifting, and study hall from 7 to 9 pm, mandatory, and that is monday to thursday. friday is a 4 hour study hall from 3 to 7 pm. saturday is only training at 8 am, rest of the day and sunday is off.
if you want to be a champion, you have to train like a champion. you have to go til you blow, master the mental techniques to break through pain barriers, develop self control and mental toughness, focus on execution and being explosive at will, upon command. like one UH coach told the beast at SL, can you ‘snap’ at will………and the beast replied ‘oh yeah, don’t worry coach’, and the rest is history.
train, train, train, study, study, study, rest, rest, rest…and everything will fall into place.
if the visiting oline recruit signs on, what an oline the warriors will have. going be bigger than any oline in uh history.
happy bday to mrs al,
may God continue to give you the patience and perseverance to live with our bestest friend, uncle al.
i hope it was a nice dinner…….. π
bulla, now you see why you on the scout team for us tsaikos. you get good eyes, not to mention one shiny head. hahahahaaaaaa
whitey,
got to keep our fingers, toes, legs, and anything else crossed
bulla, i neva know that you also one reverend. just what we need, one scout who can hover over the practice field. thanks bro
bulla, nah, no worry. the commits we have left are ones who believe that their word is good and actually no need paper to sign. that is only formality. i like that because i know that they are willing to become warriors and set their priorities in life at uh.
whitey,
now that i know Liz used to love yule brenner, i going shine my head every night, but will have to lose about 200 lbs, ouch π
maybe i too simple, but growing up and living in the country, life values are simple and you believe in people doing the right thing. maybe that is why i sometimes have a hard time coping with the ha—– who come here and think that they know everything instead of just learning how we live in hawaii.
brew808…I agree with your assessment..
Kid don’t know how to keep his word, not Warrior material.
Think a lot of kids just want to “trip” Hawaii. Good vacation for them.
Hard to know which kids are wanting to be a Warrior and which ones just want to “trip”.
Come LOI day we find out if they keep their commit or not.
whitey,
it’s like chinese food, the preparation is the most important thing. you can spend two hours getting ready to cook for five minutes, but if you nevah do it right in prepping, then instead of having one awesome meal…you goin eat soup, and das alright too.
so if the players, not playahs, do not dedicate themselves to excellence, and to do whatever it takes to be a champion….the results will speak for themselves.
drastic results need drastic changes
if you keep doing what you doing, how does the end result differ?
hmmmmmm………
Bulla,
Um, you might have to die, too. Prolly not worth it.
that is why i like coach mc, he is trying his best to learn about life and people here. he has learned simple things like saying please and thank you makes plenty of friends.
#195
i agree, Hawaii is the last bastion of civilization, where your word is all you got. i remember when my dad was a contractor, building homes and subdivisions in the 60’s and 70’s…all on a handshake. attorneys come along and start asking for the ‘paperwork’, and contracts became standard.
like growing up small kid time, when a neighbor had to pour concrete, build a wall, cut down the big mango tree, all of the men would go and help, no questions asked, you just went because that is the way we lived. you know they not going ask for help, but you going help because that is the right thing to do.
they can take anything, but they cannot take your integrity…unless you let them.
whew, getting all heated up here in Moillili……calm down
Bulla – I like your cooking analogy! Preparation is a key component. But so are good ingredients, a good recipe, good kitchen and tools, and of course, presentation and ambiance. π Of course that’s what I hear cause there’s little of that at the fast fuud place I dine at! π π― π
good evening mike.
Bulla,
Um, you might have to die, too. Prolly not worth it
that is exactly what bulla is saying, how much is it worth to you to train. if it is not worthy, then suggest you find another sport or quit. you are not training for the sake of training, you are training because you made a committment to excel in fb at uh. same can be said of the military, if you afraid of dying, no join, but if you care about your country and want to make sure your family, friends, and others enjoy their lifestyle, dying is worth it. that is why i say i am simple. i no expect nothing for what i do, but i do what is right.
So it was written, so it shall be done.
hoboy, I can’t wait for 2/4. I wanna see da new Warriors!
Make us proud, Warriors! Work hard. Train hard. Study hard.
Go Warriors!!!

I’m hoping good things for Coach Mack. Whatever happens, life will go on… I am also hoping for a renewal of energy at UH in all the programs. Jimmy D; invigorate us; make da Bolla move!

Oh oh…. someone’s bragging about their toys again! “Lost”, even dvr’d, isn’t as good on a twelve year old, 19″ clunker TV…. π
bulla,
in case recruits/commits are watching us here, i’d like them all to know, whether they are this or that, there is room in Warrior Nation for them. main thing is that they play for US, and they know US is backing them up and won’t back down on anything in our support for them. We’re all a part of Warrior Nation; I am proud to be a small part in this community.
bhf
did Bolla’s wife get hired as his assistant? or was that a vicious rumor flying around my spacious cavern called my head?
if she did get hired, i will get real sick, real quick….i am so sick of Bolla, one reason is his name is so close to mine……. that’s ok.
No worry Bulla! We know u not one ‘okole like the other guy! π
lava….my guess is that the good news comes by sunday night.
a couple of kahuku boys would be great!
a former teammate of rausch would be great!
remember, now we got some more room to recruit some real men.
this recruit list of 2009 could set the table for the new era!!!!!
suspense. i just love this suspense.
okay. so big bulla you just got sick.
And yes, there are now two Bolla’s on the payroll. That’s why I had to modify my earlier statement:
Go! Bolla GO! Go! Bolla GO!!! π― π π―
bhf
i agree with you. if there are any recruits checking in, what you have here are some DIE HARD SUPPORTERS, that you don’t find just anywhere on this Earth. we are true black/green Warriors, and want only the best for our team. if you are so lucky to put on a UH uniform, know that it is not just a shirt with a number…..it is a Uniform that allows you to represent your team, your school, the state of Hawaii, and all of the former players that wore the uniform, and all of the players that are yet to have the honor of wearing the uniform.
it is not a right that you have garnered because you are an athlete, it is a privilege that coaches have blessed you with.
you may call us nuts, maybe even TSAIKO, haha, but we are the ones that support and cheer for you when it’s pouring buckets of water from the sky, we are the ones that support and cheer for you when ND is handing you your proverbial arse to you, we are the ones who support and cheer for you when Cincinatti mounts an incredible comeback to victory, we are the ones who support and cheer for you in the Sugar Bowl Debacle……
call us nuts, call us crazy…..i’ll just call us loyal………….
bulla,
al got yo back! π wit a double bollo. π
brew, puka get many meanings, puka puka pants means hole in your pants and usually you no can see, but others can. puka is hole, puka is zero like one puka puka (most famous infantry battalion or regiment). puka head is when blood comes out from your head when you get one whack with one stone, mudball, etc. in this case, puka is to go thru the hole and the hole was 200. get plenty more meanings, but ass one major word in the pigen language.
Amen big bradda.
I tinkin ah going ballahead… yu speak fo me too! π
brew,
now that’s a bolla c–p wouldn’t you say?
brew – what can i say? it’s my new toy. π
Eh! I not STOOPID! (most of the time…) π I know puka! I just didn’t understand the phrase “puka 200”! π― π π
that give a whole new meaning to bolla-head,
i think i am going to grow my hair back as a protest to having 2 bolla’s on payroll, wow, with his record and the current trend for this year’s team, maybe he has a nephew or niece we can bring on board next year.
okay, gotta take a break. back in a few. nite nite. π
And that’s not ST(puka)(puka)pid!!! π― π π
Stephen Tsai:

DPK:
Recruiting is not an exact science.
JJ waited for the last three weeks in January to bring in recruits. His reasoning was he wanted UH to be the last visit for a recruit. Thatβs how he lands Manuwai, Brennan, Mouton, etc. But then JJ was criticized for waiting too long.
Mack believes in starting early, building relationships. He gets more early commitments. Trouble is, it opens the way for Washington, Colorado and UCLA to swoop in.
If waiting till the last three weeks worked USC, Florida, Penn State etc. would wait till the last three weeks of recruiting to bring in players. Fact is that many teams lose recruits before LOI, but most of the recruits honor their commitment. JJ has changed his tune since moving to SMU and is recruiting early along with holding football camps to create relationships. Mack is doing the right thing and is doing it the right way. Go Warriors.
bhf2, you have any major connection at camp pohakuloa?? now that is a place the warriors could go for 10 days of training. can spock them running the “little hills and dales”, tip toeing thru the “tulips”, and enjoying the peace and quiet. me, if i went there, stay puking from the 1st day and probably fall down within the first half hour. excellent training place.
I’m listening to the President speak and all I can say is WOW!
C’mon Coach Mack, I wanna hear you speak and say WOW!
IMHO, if you don’t care…. you don’t make the effort! That’s much of the problem with recruiting in the past. π
may the pukas be with you!!!
A lot of people today have discussed players who decommited from UH, many saying that was going back on their word. Of course, those that decommit from other schools to join UH are fine (brew worded it like how many others have justified it).
There is another unfortunate side of recruiting that we haven’t discussed here much, when a school pulls a scholarship offer (like in the Daniel Smith case, but Daniel Smith never got the written offer that most recruits get). However, even worse in my opinion is when a school pulls a grayshirt offer…because the player is giving up a lot of time waiting for a scholarship and placed his trust in the coaches. And if one grayshirt offer gets pulled, that could make future players who get grayshirt offers less trusting.
This thread on SportsHawaii discussed the Kalua Noa situation…and it doesn’t sound great to me for UH’s part. I think that this part of one of the posts summarizes the situation, but if you want to read more about it you should read the thread on SH.
I wonder if there’s a “training/boot camp” for the “dark side”….? π― π π
al: Ruth’s Chris, eh? If I weren’t watching my diet, I’d insist that I’m part of the family and that you bring me along. Instead, I will eat something from one of the few concessions stands open at the SSC. Either that, or finally check out Hanamaru for an early dinner. I’ve been meaning to go there for a while, now …
I bet even the puppies get some scraps….Poor Jason….. π₯ π π
Obama’s first day in office is all front burner stuff. π yeah!
Coach Mack,
You thinking about winning the WAC? pfttt. Go see Gran Torino. Bryan Clay won the decathalon. Barack Obama won the Pres. Don’t set your sights so low…. π
old diver,
you are right, it’s all about relationships…during JJ years, it amazed local recruits that guys from the West Coast would come and do a house visit, talk story, call them weekly, and stay in touch. by the time JJ jumped in, they were like, who are you? oh, yeah, june jones, ah oh wow, yeah, but hmmm, i think, well, maybe, im not sure…….and we lost some recruits that we should have gotten.
in comes coach mac, with one of the biggest pay raises ever seen in this state bar none…and he’s recruiting like one crazy mofo……if i were getting paid over $3,000 per day, that’s right, i would be shaking every hand, kissing every baby, going to every party, and shaking and baking all over town, because I WOULD FEEL guilty of getting that kind of compensation. remember now, JJ was only $400k on payroll, and the other money was from ‘supporters’, but would never be calculated for retirement purposes by the state, only the first $400k.
so now, we got recruits coming and going, don’t forget the redshirts, the gray shirts, and shoot, let’s look for the tank tops, haha…..just joking.
bottom line…..can the relationships Coach Mac created withstand the difference in money, facilities, fan base, and unspoken opportunities that come with going to the mainland? we’ll have to wait and see.
The whole recruiting process has changed and everybody recruits early now. I remember when Texas A&M used to bring *all* of their recruits in for the final recruiting weekend–the theory was that they would bond and decide to commit all together. It worked great all the way through the 90s…until Mack Brown came to Texas and offered juniors scholarships. After awhile the rest of the schools in the south had to adjust. Similar things happened all around the country with Junior Days, camps, early offers, etc. That is why I was so vocal about how UH needed to do those things for some time…I’m glad that Mac is doing them at UH.
One other factor to consider is that making early offers means that you might fly a lot of players on official recruiting trips that you might not have a great chance to get or who might be wooed away by other schools. That is fine and that is what most schools do anyway…but it takes a *much* bigger recruiting budget to do things that way. Waiting until later in the process reduces the number of recruits to fly in which fits with a limited budget. When most schools weren’t doing many early offers that could work…but now teams have to offer early.
I always thought that was why JJ had the policy of not flying in recruits that were committed to other places–he didn’t want to waste any of the limited recruiting budget. However, with an increased recruiting budget I hope that Mac flies in all the recruits he wants even if they are committed elsewhere–it may not have worked with McKay, but it sure worked with Graves.
The 3 players we discussed earlier today (Tonga, Jray, Savala) would be *huge* for this recruiting class. Hopefully ST will have good news to report after the weekend.
Bulla,
Mac is doing a great job forming the relationships. Holding camps, home visits, events at the schools, etc. You summarized the challenge he has and how he’s gone all-out to overcome them.
Garret,
the Noa situation is a classic example, however, there were other logistics involved. but i do know that he fulfilled ALL of his requirements as needed by UH…soooooo, now, what gives? sounds fishy to me, but the kid is an athlete, and i know that some schools are very interested in him as we speak…….and there might be some breaking news by friday morning.

brew, there is no training camp for the “dark side”. once you enter, you have to depend on your training in the outside world. so before going to the dark side, get yourself in top shape both mentally and physically cause you going need it. the word “apso” is mandatory, but the dark side wants you to learn how to say “nei”. from there you on your own.

Free play links pau.
This one is Obama-related and sports-related so I figure it wasn’t a free play link.
Some people are upset that Obama plans to replace the White House bowling alley with a basketball court. I love how the bowling lobby says that replacing the bowling alley will hurt his political prospects. A lot of people are already trying to request to play basketball with Obama. I know that Magic Johnson already started a public lobbying campaign and others are mentioned in this article.
eh, now 3 puka puka is starting to show on the horizon and not even 9:30.
ok, 808ike, where you stay????
So are flashlights allowed on(in) the “dark”-side? π
And, can Bulla really grow hair on that dome? π
And can BHF2 (and A-House) really “take a break” and BBL? π― π π
Bulla,
I thought that Noa took the PSU scholarship after UH didn’t have one for him? After that happened I figure there wouldn’t be any breaking news…UH is lucky that Noa isn’t like Daniel Smith, because he has a much stronger case and could make UH look horrible.
I’ve heard of pulling scholarship offers, that happens all the time. Oklahoma State pulled 7 or so last year right before NLI day. However, I’ve never heard of pulling a grayshirt offer. Never.
Garret,
i agree, whatever Mac did would have been considered a VAST improvement over JJ. JJ was a pro coach in a college environment. he ran the team like that, treated the players like that, and it was more of a business relationship than a nurturing relationship. did he win, well, look at the record….but that managerial style cannot withstand the storms of indecision. hire the best asst. coaches you can afford and let them do their job, or don’t hire them.
i’d rather see us lose convincingly with an obvious culprit or reason, than to keep going wishy washy the whole season. gotta have some big balls, step up, and pee on the trees and say, MY WAY OR HIT THE HIGHWAY, and LEAD them into battle……right? or am on crack again….let’s take a vote.
al, know dinner was excellent and good to hear that #1 and 2 are planning something special.
Some may say “on crack…”, but most will say Tsaiko! π
flashlights not allowed, only your 1, 2, or 6 senses. unfortunately when i walk in and they say they know me and if i remember them, i don’t. i am blind and deaf on the darkside, so depend only on touch to see who i am talking to.
i going make like bulla and make bolo head. what am i saying, i already am bald. st puka puka pid!!!!!
Garret,
it’s aint over til it’s over…..just know that there is ‘activity’ going on even at this hour of the night.
about 2 years ago, i heard of Oregon rescinding an offer from a top Utah linemen after they chased him all junior year. their comment was, ‘the recruiting climate has changed and we have to rescind our offer, we wish you the best’
how is that? well, it’s business as usual……interesting though, i mean all we’re tlaking about is the future of these student atheltes, that’s all.
ok, break time. no forget, look at the horizon
tks whitey….but, no forget also get the #1 girl too. she’s the second boss, hahahahaha.
Short wrap on the 2009 opening session of the ‘Leg’ today. IMHO It was no surprise that Rep. Takai’s office served up da most bestest broke da mouwt fuud today!
Ran into JD prowling the halls of the Capital building, and again at Rep. Takai’s. I believe that the AD was on a serious mission to thank all those politicos that helped UH. He is the man!
Of course W/Doc was there also, she’s become a permanent fixture there I think. (J)James, is that her special project under the tent in the Rotunda? Or is that part of the new ‘LOST’ episode?
brew,
touche, good one i guess.
whitey, no worry, God made perfect heads, the rest have hair…..just look
If i were overseeing athletes the first communication i would make with them before assigning what off season workouts to do, what running to do, where to study and how to study is to see what mentoring the athlete has. Or needs. Or wants.I would want to know what, and who needs to be shepherded and guided. Before training starts I’d take stock of my athletes and see who are the ones that need guidance, academically, spiritually, athletically and personally. I think this is important. The prelude to doing the first rep and lap, let me first get the mind, spirit and body in the right alignment. I think this makes a big difference. Many times you just see them lift, lift, lift and run, run, run and their minds, spirits, souls and bodies are not in alignment and they are never as successful as the ones that are in alignment. In fact the way I see it athletes that have a mentor or father figure that can councel them academically, spiritually, athletically and personally will go a lot further in their football, academic and personal life. What would be a good idea is for the coaches to assign or make available mentors to the players, which would come from a pool of volunteers and perferable alumni that have gone through the program.
guys,
it’s been fun, i have to go to waikiki to make sure my crew is protecting the natives from the tourists………..last night only a few incidents, but the Shore Patrol are so efficient.
let’s wake up to a beautiful sunrise and a calm morning with no more upsetting news…..that would be very, very nice
Whitey ~ I need to get on the stick and get a full fb report out to you! Dang, I been so slack lately in that area.
I did get a chance to admire Rep. Takai’s excellent collection of autographed footballs, and other noteworthy UH parafanelia in his office today. Does that count?
roysan,
email me at 808bulla@gmail dot com, and i’ll share some good info with you
Loa ~ I knew you were missing the morning fb practices…I just never realized how much! Seems like you were breaking some wind on somebody earlier today bro! Hehehe…careful, you’ll get that wild wahine all hu hu witchu!
good evening roysan and kekoa. thanks for the scouting report. tomorrow’s report should have more nuts and bolts.
al, i neva forget about #1 girl cause i might meet her on my flight to manila.
few more days and going be feb 4th and we going have a whole bunch of warrior recruits. for them to know the ropes and bond going take time, but if they start thinking about the team and not themselves, they going become warriors cause you no can win individually, but as a team you are superior.
ok, col A House, what else to add????
must have had good fuud at the opening cause (j)j, stretch, el gaupo, ralph, and others are not here.
a few more steps and going cross the 300 level, but need to take break.
hey, whitey.
i forgot that ha flies to manila. i should consider a trip in march, too.
Where’s “one-finger” ike? π― π
i’ll help you along whitey
i was reading wafan asking bf2 a few mornings back if he had “caught any fresh fish yesterday”. and i thought it was sooo fuunnny because what other fish would bh…aahh never mind. to me it was funny.

what else.
on the BC show heard coach mack say he likes to keep the sponsors in mind. for example, when the team goes to las vegas this year he mentioned (and is still awaiting jd approval) of staying in a sam boyd hotel
if i heard correctly the one in summerlin(?) and practice at the hs nearby of one of the lv recruits.
also keeping the sponsor in mind–
this might explain why murphys was selected as a gathering place to celebrate the signing of recruits, although what al said about the on campus would be better ( and I agree)
300
i wonder if UW is going to lose any scholarships…
301
Didn’t the team stay at Sam’s Town in 2007?
303 is the area code of denver.
letsgowarriors — do you reside in Hawaii? If not, what city/state?
The Orleans is a Sam Boyd Property, PLUS it’s near In&Out! Somebody I know recently hopped on the cab from the hotel to In&Out to order 10 to go, with ONE order of fries. Got back to the hotel to share. Then went out for pho! π― π π
i just moved to denver less than a month ago. but i lived on oahu my whole life.
all of you are too good!!! congratulations you have won a one way trip to the dark side on my spacecraft. i only going drop you off cause i going change my ways for 09.
roysan16….i guess i am glad now that i am not alone in that train of thought.
btw, what does the 16 stand for????? kids?
letsgowarriors— I’ll add you to the Colorado Tsai-ko listing. I was wondering how we could have missed you as being on the mainland since you’ve been with us almost 2 years. Good luck in your new pursuits!
The listing is at:
http://home.roadrunner.com/~smurashi/tsai-kos/mainintpost.html
i dont post often.
i am pretty sure that makaula was going to switch over. it was just a matter of time. i think the coaches knew that too. there was talk nearly two months ago. it was just a matter of time.
but, hey. one door closes (wham!) then another one opens (creek…).
i’ll take the two other kahuku safeties; galeai and tonga.
and if more leave the roost(sounds like that more will do so), not a problem. i’ll take a savala.
this, the new decommits, may actually do us good because we were a bit heavy in certain positions. now perhaps, we fill the needs that we really needed to fill.
okay, wait until sunday night.
seriously? more will leave? with what we are left with, im quite happy with our class. i was hoping no one else would leave. i just hope all of our local OL and DL stay committed.
16?
no kids, no pets
16 makes me happy and young and innocent…rah
50 would remind me of my real age…ugh
letsgo…..i was just speculating. but, upon careful examination of the numbers it looks like we lost the punahou kid, maybe the lbpoly de, two grayshirts are not coming in january (its almost february), an academic casualty here and there. all of a sudden we are six recruits light.
so yes we do have some openings don’t we?
roysan16 — you can use 50. Two years ago, I guessed the average Tsai-ko age was 48. 50 now…and we are still happy, young, and kinda innocent. Just look at Al and whitey… π
ill take savala, tepa, galeai and preston king.
stevem, i resemble that remark. al is a squirt next to me, just like stretch is my grandson.
time for bed. night and good luck to the night shift crew.
i’m a squirt?
Good night squirt.
π
Work day tomorrow… Good night everyone!
letsgo….i really like preston king. although his primary position at tesoro was as a dback. like his potential at slotback and as a kick returner. i think his forte is carrying the ball in open spaces. i would offer him a full ride.
okay stevem…..i guess i am lighter than you.
mwahahahaha.
Lotsa interesting talk on recruiting today… Very informative. Coach Mac is doin’ it right though, goin early and often. As posted above, it looks like there will be some openings left in case a Brennan or Manuwai comes blowing in outta the recruitin’ wind. I kind of have Liz’s attitude in some respects; I just wait to see who’s on the field on game days and see what they do. Sh*t happens, but I have faith in the Warrior program. Jacob Heun needs at least a look at RB, I pray his back is completely better.
I agree with everybody else, this recruiting drama is good fun…
Sorry to hear about Kalua Noa, though. His Dad is one cool braddah, too…
cue da crickets…
or da coquis… π
1. Expect to have a great recruiting season.
2. Expect to be in a dogfight for recruits.
3. Expect that at sometime during the recruiting process, having a great recruiting season will appear to be impossible.
4. Expect to go down to the wire for a few recruits on NLI day, but for us to end up with the best recruiting class ever.
D1
i read your post……………………………
i know what you are talking about.
MAC, KEEP YOUR PROMISE TO STUTZ OR YOU LOSE CREDIBILITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The great thing about this recruiting season is that we keep hearing about our recruits or verbals changing their mind and committing to Pac-10 schools. That tells us that we are now competing for a higher caliber recruit than we have in the past. Losing recruits is not bad thing, it is a good thing. Our coaches have finally stepped up to the plate and we are now in the ballgame. Every program expects there to be a few decommits and plans for them. It’s never a shock, we’re dealing with 17 and 18 year old kids. You don’t want a kid to come to Hawaii and not be happy, neither party benefits. Recruits need to find the right fit, and the coaches need to find the right kids that will fit in with our future plans. t’s a process and the process really never ends. For every kid that decommits, I think that it is great, because it means that we weren’t the right fit. Better to find out now rather than later.
Once again, Pride nails it. I figured that even with the “de-commits” we’d still be good, but if Pride sez best ever, I believe him.
Hows you tonight, Pride?
330!
Oh yeah, two last things.
Col. Ahouse, this Tsaiko salutes you!
You too, Greg Alexander!
GO WARRIORS!!!
HI Pride.
Mahalo for your wisdom.
Nitey nite and Sweet Warrior Dreams!
ha ha.
Howzit Tsaikos everywhere! hi Squirt! π
Whitey,
you talking for real about PTA? I don'[t know anybody up there except the help, but I could make the effort if I knew what, when, how long. they get day long things, i guess they could make overnite things too.
you want fire for effect? π make things interesting? π
okay, so Mack keeps his promise to Stutz. Thats a good thing anyway.
But this coaching thing is a team thing. Coach can make room at the top. whats good for the team is what counts. say something about the team, coach!
I’m wondering what Coach Mack is thinking about his asst coaches now. Lumpkin, great guy, been at UH for over 33 years, got longevity and can retire if he wants. i dunno if him stepping down would be good now but there is a season for everyone. same for the other coaches. main thing, go with dignity and the goodwill of the people when you go.
Good luck Coach Malloe.
at a dig at murphy’s he told me and my wife of 35 years that stutz is an awsome coach and “he has the next spot”
i am not saying what is right or wrong, i am just saying that he told that to me and my wife and another couple… me and my pal are st. louis grads….
if he does not do this HE IS NOT THE REAL DEAL….sorry@@@
Coach,
you did good by Mr. Gerke. You did good by us. You’re doing good. You know you can do better. you gotta do better. the ND bashing hurt.
Go Warriors!
lol big island……
i am in kapolei and it is freezing. you cold out there?
the thing that hurt me the most about the ND game was watching the ND receiver break for the corner while our defender was standing by the goal post with his arms outstretched and looking for a break from the ref, and the ball had just left the qb’s hands. he was trying to talk his way out of a situation that resulted from his play. that no can. and that is the result of 2 things: the player, his coach.
we need to instill fire in more players, coach.
howzit warrior!
i got all the windows buttoned up, curtains drawn, hot tea going.
i’m counting the days till I come to Honolulu, go ni’ele Ron.
okay, back in a few.
zzzzzzzzzzzZ
The rujmor about Dennis McKnight coming back this year, any more info/truth on that? very cool by me, whatever reason/outcome.
it would be cool if SMU bunched up its britches and made a series with us π now is the time to arrange the mete, SMU has fuzzy feelings about us. π we can take out our belated ND aggression on dem. π
i am so out of the loop….played back in the 70s
i once was a warrior
Could you email me pomai at tsai-kos dot com
Good morning all!
A bit chilly at 31 — a whole lot warmer than the past few days — and very foggy, again.
I once was a warrior ~
You and the wife should stop in for a coffee call with da Wessai chaptah Tsai-ko’s. Or come to the next Karaoke event. Lissen to bhf2 & Dpk sing a duet.
It’s good for whatever ails you! Plus we can make it sound just like the song...”tells us ’bout da good ole days!”
I live here in Kaupe’a, next to Kapolei HS…on da ceded lands. Come to the next Kapolei homeowners Association mtg next Wed. 7 PM – At the rec center.
With that Kalua Noa situation there could be more to it than not having enough schollies or pulling his gray shirt offer. I remember some people saying Noa had some academic things to take care of this could be one of the reasons maybe there was something on his end he was supposed to take care of.
I’m so bummed I missed all the fun teasing Uce2. Whatta wannabee…
