Game day: BYU
Sure, this isn’t your parents’ BYU-UH game or rivalry.
But for the first time in this (renewed) series, this game actually has postseason ramification. In 1990, Ty Detmer already had won the Heisman Trophy when the teams teed it up. In 2001, an unbeaten BYU had little chance of playing for a national title.
For the Warriors, they control whether their season extends another three weeks.

Prediction
BYU should be the better team – but a lot of Cougar teams over the years have gone into Aloha Stadium in that position and either found themselves in a dogfight or on the losing end. I don’t think this Warrior team has the firepower to blast BYU, but the Cougars need to get a decent lead to keep Hawaii from getting a shot at the victory late in the game. Look for this one to be close for at least the first half before BYU is able to get a little more comfortable.
Prediction: BYU 33, Hawaii 24

GO WARRIORS!!!!
I’m thinking SECRETARIAT AT THE BELMONT…
GO WARRIORS!!!
Ho Brew! You comin to the game?
Does anyone know how many tickets have been sold so far?
Let’s get that blue bird:
I’m always chasing rainbows,
Watching clouds drifting by,
My dreams are just like all my schemes,
Ending in the sky.
Some fellows look and find the sunshine,
I always look and find the rain.
Some fellows make a winning sometime,
I never even make a gain, believe me,
I’m always chasing rainbows,
I’m watching for a little bluebird in vain.
@16 I heard they hit 35,000 lunch time yesterday…hoping for at least 43,000 for some 13th man NOISE!!!
Down with PPV!!!
GOOOO WARRRIORS!!!
al_kiQaida,
Hmm, yeah I was hoping for at least 40,000-something too. Damn, I really hope people decide to come out and watch this game live.
GO WARRIORS!!!
Morning, gang!
Yes, it will be nice (and somewhat nostalgic) to hear a (hopefully) deafening crowd and the thunderous roar of foot stomping everytime BYU gets behind the ball.
Good gameday all!
Nicely done Brew! Speaking of…off to the store for pupus and beer.
#14…still the track record at 2:24. Amazing.
Good Morning Tsai-kos!
It’s game day and I can’t wait that long till kickoff.
Showing Rainbows 1989 victory over BYU at Petals & Beans till ESPN2 coverage starts.
Hawaiian Air radio commercial implies they support the football team.
I wished they had their employees and family come to the game
and really show support in person.
Let’s go bows!!!! Beat byu!!!
Hawaii 42 BYU 34
GO WARRIORS!!!
Hiya Tsaikos!
IWW – the pressbox is NOT air conditioned. It’s not that glamorous at all.
Stretch,
No a/c? What kind of backwards world do we live in?!
Well, like i said at least ST will be separated from the riff-raff.
Too late for lifting weights or running any more sprints. That shoulda been done a LOOONG TIME ago!!
Show up with what you got!!
That’s it-

GO WARRIORS!!!
CAGE DA GOUGARS!!!
Stretch,
You are right. I think we were about .002mm further away from the equator back then. Was cooler. =p
don’t forget your sunscreen spf 50 for those of us sitting in the 90 degree weather.
that ice cold stella gonna taste extra cold today.
whootah.
Shold be 10-2….today they will play like that…..all in the past…..2:30 the fun starts….hope to see a few different looks on D and O…..Mike Edwards runs one back today..Joey has a great day and more than a few turnovers—go Warriors….
From SMU Ponyfans.com grousing about Jones and his well known insatiable desire to come back to the islands:
“Nice to know that the Hawaii media has better access to Jones than the DFW media. I guess there is such a thing as a long-distance relationship working out after all.”
“I can’t say that I’m not a little bit annoyed with Jones dying for Hawaii bowl.”
BOOTS TO ASSES
This game is on national TV NOT ppv.
Cant blame ppv on this one.
Well, I do sit between Ferd and Reardon …
GOOD MORNING HAWAII!
Kawika49: … dream the impossible dream, to beat the unbeatable foe …
It’s ESPN2, in case anyone is trying to set the DVR.
I hope the stadium is over 30,000 an even better over 40,000 Bring the Noise! I’ll be able to watch the game after I pau work! Go Warriors Bleeding Green Beat BYU!!!
It’s a big game against an old-time rival.
Next years jerseys mosty green? I love the all black jerseys. Makes em look mean. And maybe white helmets? Ugh. Why not all pink colors if they going digress so much. When UH beat BYU in 2001, they wore all black. I miss June Jones. He knew what colors made the team look mean. If Greg Mack has his way, he’ll make em dress like the pink panther. This will be the warriors bowl game. Even if they win and go to the Sheraton bowl, nothing can match this game. I don’t think the 0-line can keep out BYU defenders. 23 points against an 2-10 team? But it will be a good game and David Graves will mature a lot and be ready for next year.
This is IT!…. Game day!!…. Go for it! WARRIORS! … GEEVE ‘EM! and WIN!
Just WIN, Warriors.
Beat BYU.
Steven, how come you don’t hog the blog list like Volleyshots? Oh, nevermind, too excited about the game today to really care.
I know why this years run and shoot is not jelling like last years. No running back threat like Alex Green. No elusive sure handed Greg Salas and Kealoha Pilares. Everytime Alex got the ball, he was a threat to go all the way. Greg was near impossible to defend. The defensive secondary had fits with Greg and Kealoha and Rodney Bradley. And the D-line had to play honest with Alex back there. The W-receivers this year are easier to cage in, and the UH QB’s have little seconds to find them. No Mighty Mouse, no Ashley Lelie, No Devon Bess, and no Greg and Kealoha.
chief(insti)gator,
Really?!
I mean, REALLY?!
Its game day against BYU and THAT’S what style you bring?!
If you’re a fan of the Warriors, I wonder what you write about teams you DON’T like?!
See if ya can post only good stuff about the Warriors today… Ya never know, ya might like it and it may be helpful.
Pretend you’re in front of the team and their coaches and you’re delivering the pre-game pep talk. What ya got?!
GO WARRIORS!!!
Uniforms. As much as I like the “H” logo, I would like to see a UH helmet with only the tapa design down the middle. Maybe the logo in the back.
DPK: I second that. UH vs. an 8-3 BYU with the Hawaii Bowl on the line. What better drama could you ask for??
Watching that other UH play today. Rootin for them as it brings more attention to the accomplishments of Timmy Chang and Colt Brennan if they get into a BCS game.
Houston Cougars got beat. Can the Warriors make it another Cougar loss this weekend?
Answer: YES!
Go Warriors!
If you are not excited about this match up then stick a pin in your arm to see if you are still alive.
In Mcmackens 4 years here, he never upset any opponent. Now’s the time. He just might save his job with this win. And with 2001 upset of BYU, it was near the end of the season like this one so maybe history will repeat itself. It will be a great game!!!
That’s better! 😉
FYI, Mack’s team beat Fresno, then rakned #19 in the country, a few years back, and they also beat an unbeaten Nevada team last year to claim a share of the WAC title.
GO WARRIORS!!!
And that ranked Fresno team was a game on the road… unheard of victory for the Warriors.
Can DO!.. So DO IT!… WIN! WARRIORS!
DPK
I think Chief is emphasizing UH’s underdog status. It’s always more entertaining for a team to be the underdog.
Oh I stand corrected. Well the key will be Joey Iosefa having a big big game. The cougars will have to play honest defense. They can’t blitze a lot. Joey has to emulate Alex Green. Billy Ray Stutzman is getting better every game. The kickers are awful. Tyler Hadden would be better off kicking with his head ala soccer. Do you feel it in the air? A great win for the warriors!!!! And maybe June Jones in the Sheraton bowl? Let’s kick his @@ss for leaving Hawaii. Just kidding. Dreams come true in blue Hawaii.
Warriors, just remember…
If CAN, CAN.. if no can, STILL CAN! … just WIN!
Speaking of supporting the Warriors. Our faithful tunalvr is bring his whole staff and friends from Kauai. Now THAT is SUPPORT!
GO WARRIORS!!!!!
K State up on Iowa State at the half, 17-13. Go ‘Cats.
Where’s Whitey?
will the coaches take their final “senior” walk too? At least they will have a chance to thank the fans there and say goodbye.
#63:Say Goodbye Before they go recruit on the mainland…I agree
Good morning everyone!
GO WARRIORS!
BEAT BYU!
Thank you ST. Being underdogs has its advantages. Just like Michigan St and Northwestern coming here in 2004 feeling high and mighty. And getting their balloon deflated. I got a feeling Rolo got some surprise plays just for the Cougars. Besides the Warriors going to the Sheraton bowl, I would jump ten feet in the air if Jd can lure JJ back to Hawaii. I miss him. Just seeing Dennis Mcknight here brings back great memories. Come on Jim, give us a X-mas present, get Neil Abercrombie to donate 5 million of his vast income and let’s bring back the happy days with JJ,the son of the run and shoot and reunite him with the grandson of the R&S, Nick Rolo.
I don’t miss JJ at all. If he stayed he probably could have negotiated more for the Warrior program than Mack did… but he chose not to negotiate and not to stay. That’s fine with me, it’s his career, his choice. I appreciate what he did for the program and wish him the very best, but if it was time for him to move on, it was time for us to move on, as well. This is NOW.. and NOW is WARRIOR FOOTBALL vs BYU!…
GO WARRIORS! …
#58 –
Different people will see different things, Stephen.
Underdogs? No matter, these are WARRIOR dogs!
Well I can’t help missing JJ. He had a certain swagger to him just like Gib Arnold. He had a twinkle in his eye like he had something up his sleeve.. I don’t feel that with Mack. Macks a good guy, he is a respectable gentleman, I wish him well. But there’s a certain charisma about JJ. Dick tomey came back, maybe JJ too some day.
Chief:
What people forget is UH sued JJ for $400,000.
It wasn’t such a sweet parting.
McMackin doesn’t call the plays.
Rolo has some innovative plays he has kept under wraps.
Good. Lets see some of that innovative plays. I’m addicted to trick plays as long as they work. 😉
I just want to remind the Bringham Young Players what mama used to say.
She used to say, “Always wear clean underwear when you go out cause you never know when you might have an accident.”
So to Bringham Young .. I say
Bring
Your
Undies!
I forgot that ST. Maybe JJ doesn’t have aloha for Hawaii then. Than let’s stand by Mack. Eddie would go, Eddie would go, but not Mack. My perception was all wrong. I dedicate myself to supporting Mack and his green/black Warriors to give a serious pounding to BYWHO? Let’s show ESPN and nation wide viewers a Hawaii Whooping like the 2001 edition did.
Allen Sampson was used on an end around. That was supposed to set up another play. But he got hurt.
Chief
JJ has aloha for Hawaii, UH, etc. But that was an awkward situation. After nine years and a BCS appearance, I wouldn’t have sued. But it’s not my money, either.
Houston lost? Just goes to show you.. even the mighty can fall!
Cream
the BYU team!..
GEEVE ‘EM! WARRIORS.. just GEEEEVE ‘EM!
No more trick play details, Dean Tsai. There may be Cougar spies on the WB, just waiting to call the BYU coaches! 😆 Okay, prolly not.
JJ had a lot of love for Hawaii. So does Mack.
Today, its all about the Warriors!
That’s the spirit chiefgator! It would be great to jump ahead and demoralize them!
I suspect JJ is suing the memory of the Fumbler, and not so much UH.
Maybe put a lot of black sunscreen on Rolo and start him in place of Graves. Hope ESPN cameras don’t catch on to the deception. Start Ashley Lelie in place of Trevor Davis? Put Dennis McKnight on the 0-line? I need a draft Miller, my minds going.
But its not my money, either.
Draft Miller… MMMMmmmm.
Well ST, I’m too stupid to know all the intricasies of that 400,000 buyout. Well one day maybe JJ, Dick Tomey and Mack will be all reunited and we can all have a big party!.
What does Houston loss mean for the bowl game?
Yup: Final: Southern Miss 49, Houston 28
What a disappointment. Casey Keenum using his 6th year to set all
those passing records. No mo BCS bowl bid.
link to espn:
http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/post/_/id/54772/final-southern-miss-49-houston-28
Hmmm…. aren’t Houston Cougaers, too?
Not a good day for Cougars!…
That’s Case Keenum, for the nitpickers.
Should be Dr. Keenum by now.
# 86.
That means David Graves vs. Case Keenum.
Go Warriors !!!
# 86 & # 91.
Nah, Houston going to $$$ bigger bowl.
Georgia scored FG then accomplished the coolest onside kick I’ve seen in years.

Should be Dr. Keenum by now.
Should be Dr. Keenum, EMERITUS, by now.
Heck, U of Houston should put him on pension already.
Southern Miss came to play today. They went into Houston and snatched it. I love it when an underdog overachieves.
BIK
Underdogs have overachieved all year against UH. Hawaii and Houston. 🙂 Sorry, I had to put that in.
Go warriors!
BIK

10-0 Georgia. Do we know any Georgia fans? 🙂
UH sues JJ, and lame recruit sues UH using grad from SMU.
REAL TACKLE FOOTBALL! Down da park, kine. Our neighborhood against your neighhborhood. La’ie vs. Hau’ula. Nanakuli vs. Waianae. Wahiawa vs. Mililani. KPT vs. Kam IV. Kailua vs. Kaneohe. Waimanalo vs. Hawaii Kai. Kapa’a vs. Waimea. Up Country vs. Wailuku. Waiakea vs. Hilo. Konawaena vs. Kealakehe. Ohhhhhh Yeaaaaaaah.
What a shame a 6-6 team going to a bowl game. What happened to being rewarded by having a winning record. Now the NCAA states that conference championship games don’t count for qualification to a bowl game making sure a team from a BCS conference can get a bowl invite even with a 6-7 record. Case in point is UCLA.
Want UH 13 game exemption to be effective again. All teams must have a winning record to be bowl eligible.
Fat chance the NCAA will change the rules of having a winning record to be bowl eligible. Having an odd number of games makes the percentage greater. How many teams this year who are 6-6 that are going bowling? Last count about 15.
#29
Even bettah, kick ’em off while being chased. Great distraction. Used to do that one.
Maybe Hawaii can go to the Bowl game with 6 wins too? Maybe they should ask.. financial hardship for the Sheraton Bowl AND Hawaii.. AND for a second Mainland team.

Niner-niner club ~ I wonder if that Florida Atlantic coach would consider *retiring* in Hawai’i?
—————————————————————————————-
…. I remember Howard S. running off the field – NOT wanting to shake hands with JJ,
after beating us at Aloha.
Five 3-and-outs for LSU so far. Georgia’s D is amped.
# 108.
Go Georgia !!!
Go Okla State !!!
I wanna see some else play for the National Championship,
other than the ususal suspects.
ai-eee-soos,
You and me both!
ok just to soolidify my guess that I placed last night.
BYU 27
Hawaii 38
LETS GO WARRIORS!!!
Is this the same Georgia D that got killed by Boise St.? I hope Georgia wins… Chaos…
if anyone ELSE out there still interested in SanDiegoState moving to the Big Least,
this article is dated Dec. 2.

Aloha, everyone! Good games today! Another one about to happen at Aloha Stadium!
Go, Warriors!!! Beat BYU!!!
Got 4 recruits today.. two from Cali.. two from Ohio… maybe a few local kids in the stands, too… so Win Warriors WIN!
Looks like there won’t be a non-BCS team in the BCS this year. TCU needs Baylor to lose but they are up big on Texas right now.
LSU just took the lead.
OMG, a lot of Blue in the North Endzone.
Blue seats or shirts?
Maybe folks holding their breath?
Definitely not cold . . .
No problem! Kazz sits in that section. The odds are about right. Probably need more blue shirts.
Shirts, hats, pom poms, all blue and white.
Hawaii faced BYU as they were leaving to do the Haka.
15 yard penalty?
Get um Rolo. GO WARRIORS!!
Non AQ schools should petition the NCAA and create their own BCS. Think about it having 2 teams in the top 10 from non AQ conferences playing each other in a designated bowl for AQ teams. Payout to be equal to a BCS. No need to worry like this year if BSU or Houston would qualify. If they both qualified the BCS would pair them anyway.
What if this happens a non AQ team could be #1 at the end of the regular season and another within the top 5. They playing in a non AQ bowl game that may draw more interest than the BCS. If that happens enough the BCS conference will need to reconsider their positions.
This is big business and some smart lawyer with business background should start figuring out how to do this for the non AQ conferences and their schools. This law firm could earn big bucks doing this. They’ll probably at the same time uncover anti-trust practices and even earn more money representing the non AQ schools in legal suits.
unfortunately students have not yet returned to the stands.
Beer sales are down in the North end zone.
Cool to see the alumni wearing the throwback T-shirts.
Reggie Torres is here, of course.
He’s wearing a No. 19 jersey. Of course.
Kaniela Tuipulotu is the honorary captain.
Aaron Brown is carrying the Hawaiian flag.
Edwards and Lister are the returners.
Did one of the BYU players have to be restrained when UH did the haka? Heard the radio guys say something to that effect.
Way to go D!!!!
Hawaii’s ball. Now let’s go score.
Hi Tsai-kos, good afternoon!
Have a goood game!
GO WARRIORS!!!
Make us proud, Team!!! 🙂
Stutzman was there too.
Oh no. Joey looks hurt.
Look like a charlie horse.

Touchdown!!!! Yeeeehawwww!!!
Oh man!
Auwe. Missed extra point.
I saw the kicker was way over to the side before he kicked the ball. Missed extra point.
On that ‘fumble,’ I think his elbow hit first before the ball came out. Would have been UH ball on replay.
OK, why does everyone scream when they are on camera in the stands? Whatever happened to “Hi, Mom!”
Kicked out of bounds?! He’s killin’ me.
Chun has knee problems BC radio said but has been perfect
for short field goals so far before this missed xpoint. Wonder
if a kicker can use a stiff knee/leg brace with extra weight to
give them extra boost power…
For the love of all that is holy let’s not EVER get cute on kickoffs. Just get the god damn ball in the endzone or as far as possible.
Man I hope we get a new kicker for next year.
3 and out! Way to go D!
Way to go D!
lol@156
Same time I swear!
Awright. Iosefa’s back in too.
Kick it away, please.
Go for it!
WarriorNY-
Most times I’m the one that’s behind since I think my routing goes through South America on its way to the SA servers.
This would be a perfect opportunity for a fake punt.
Brock Huard has to be one of the greatest football names ever. Brock. Huard.
Time for a turnover.
@164,
Good name but damn the guy looks like he’s 17.
I missed the intro…anyone know which conference these are refs from?
delete ‘are’ above
Need a turnover.
Aim for Rileys ribs!
Please guys, be gentle, he has hurt ribs. 😉
Shucks.
I thought for sure that was going to be an interception.
Hope that missed PAT doesn’t haunt us.
Hindsight: Should have gone for it on fourth-and-1 from the 41.
Great commercial
I have no idea how he completed that! Great pass!
Graves is one tough kid.
WAC rules says team has to be on the sidelines of the student section.
Why are we in the sun for this game?
Aaron Brown! Way to go.
WOOOO!!! GREAT PLAY!!!
Boing
Wait I take back the exclamation points… Don’t want ST to kick me off…
We’ll take it. C’mon, let’s take this down the field and score.
Lot of emotion on the sideline.
Can’t see the ball. 91 is in the way.
A pack of BYU fans next to us….ugh, GROSS
WOWOWOWOW
Wow. Wow. Wow.
Oh man, that was sweet!
What a great block to get him free… Great play…
Make the extra point, mkay?
Yeeeeeeeeehaaaaaawwww!!!!!!!!!
So, we have Mr. Davis for 3 more years? Same with Iosefa? Not bad. Not bad at all.
ST,
Energy in the stands too!!!
Guess I missed the XP.
Woot woot!!!
Amped.
Best kick of the season. That is how you do it!
Can feel the crowd energy here in NYC… Let’s go!
199
dang
Just keep them out of the end zone.
Yeeeehawwwwww!!! The first of many BIG plays we’ll see from that pass-catch combo!
No fans on the UH sideline. It’s a visual advantage.
Fans, as in wind-blowing machines.
Kenton Chun appears to be done for the day. Injury to his plant leg.
With Houston loss, are they now projected to play Hawaii Bowl??
Wife just came in and told me I got to go pick up the Chinese food. Told her, “Why I gotta go all the time, I watching football”.
She said, “Cause I said.”
Can’t wait till the kids get their drivers license.
Be right back. 🙁
Satele sack! Love it.
@209 LOL… Sorry man…
Mike Sellers,
What a play!
Fantastic D.
K now i think i’m talking to myself so I should prolly stop…
Did anyone else just see that girl in the crowd??? I’m just sayin…
Yes, my wife commented that the cameraman must have been breast fed and was flashing back.
Not a bad first half.
Graves made some nice third-down throws.
UH probably needs to get the running game going.
Great job. One half to go.
Shoko, no forget the spicy mustard.
@216,
LOL…
@217
Very true…
#217-
Agreed ST. I’d love to see Iosefa get going.
Where are our Asia-based bloggers? Good morning to those in China and Korea!
WarriorNY- ur #214. I know the feeling. Click on my handle on any post above.
Wonder why they left for the locker room with :39 sec left on the clock??? Why not go for it cuz Bwhyhoo receives the ball in the 2nd half??
good writing, very articulate. I like it in deed. I come acoss the site by google search engine. I could visit your site oftenly and forward it to my classmates. Please keep it fresh. Keep on the good work. – A sweet girl
GO WARRIORS!
BEAT BYU!
On a less positive note, I received an email from John’s sister (las vegas/Rasu Begasu) around 30 minutes ago…
I know how much he treasured your friendship so I found your email to let you know John is seriously ill. He is in ICU and it does not look good.
I am trying to get more details, but I’m sure Tsai-kos everywhere will say a prayer for one of our most popular Tsai-kos.
99club,
Hahaha… Hopefully all the Hawaii Tsaiko’s are at the game… Good to know I’m not the only one on here though…
If Baylor’s QB doesn’t get the Heisman…it’ll be a crime.
I think RG3 is as accurate as Colt… He deserves the Heisman…
LOL,
Again, I swear i typed that first!
SteveM, thanks for that info. Prayers going out for LV and his family.
At the half: Graves 11-20-0 177 yards, 1 TD
Riley Nelson 15-21-0 165 yards, 1 TD
For John Rasu-Begasu, Psalm 23:4 “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”
And it’s raining . . .
Prayers for Rasu~
Rainbow trying to come over Halawa.
Prayers and positive thoughts for LV/RB.
Get well soon, my friend.
How many “near pics” have we had this year???
#167 99club, I know one of the referees is from here.
Hope Hardy-Tuliau comes back soon…
Why wasn’t that in the grasp?? Is that just NFL??
Guess so.
Hold them.
That play was the perfect play to how our season has gone…
Dang.
The sad news about LV just hits you right in the gut.
It’s the third-down plays that are killing Hawaii (15 yards, 21 yards).
need to lay a hit on the QB and the secondary should take a chance and jump some routes
my thoughts and prayers to one helluva tsaiko, rasu. get well soon big guy.
sloooooooooooooow start
Wow…
Great, just got back only to witness an Iosefa fumble.
I hope the coaches get ALL the seniors in for this game…
and not for just a few seconds. Maybe do it now. Give
the game to the Seniors to win or lose. Go Warrior Seniors!
Go.
Any lip readers catch the conversation between Mack and Tomey?
Prayers for John. Keep fighting, we are all praying for you.
Prayer to Rasu and family.
If I was security, I would taze Santa.
Another third-down completion. Can’t defend the middle.
Tightend wth?!
Hey, you know that’s the same TE running the same fricken play.
Get someone on his ass already.
the bane of hawaii’s defense this season has been the secondary coverage–playing too much throw net defense with all the pukas in the net no can fix the net
Aranda? Can you make adjustments brah?
#259-
Yup.
Once again, the third quarter mojo strikes.
Shane Austin in
Shane. Just watched that movie today. “Come back, Shane! Come back!”
OMG
Can anything go wrong for BYU today?
That was a good catch.
Great play for BYU; getting ugly for UH.
Okay, now Matlin has to look for a team.
Team is all pau. They playing like they don’t care.
Bye bye coach Mack. It was a good 4 years.
Give Mack one more year… Or give HC to Aranda or Rolo…
Prayers and Aloha to the one of the best, LV! Get better brother!
Even the announcers are saying it may be a coaching cahnge.
We have a lot talented players.
If a player keeps making mistakes, why are our coaches leaving them in?
Or are they supposed to be making those mistakes?
Nuff for coach Mack. Attendance down, Hawaii Bowl all jam up…
No to Polo or Aranda as HC. If they make a change, make it complete. And we all have to live it.
When did Riley Nelson become Steve Young?
I’m so confused 🙁
Sorry “Rolo”, not Polo.
I think Matlin is feeling quite ill at the moment. If it’s Nevada, for the third time in eight years, might as well close off one of the sidelines.
Either way, UH is giving Mack $1.1M next year. Sure hope they let him earn it.
Clean out the cupboards. Look forward to next year.
Many of the opposing quarterbacks become Steve Young when they play UH this year. Third and long… first down!
The team has gone to the locker room.
It seems like ALL our opponents’ qb look like All-Pros.. They all have career days against Hawaii.
Na Wahine beats Columbia 66-55!
Can we suit up lelie
The men lead Pepperdine 15-9 early in the 1st half.
I remember a Hawaii coach said that half time adjustments are over rated.
#283 yeah not to mention a couple of end zones as well
Prayers to Rasu and family!
Feeling sorry for the seniors…..
Fan exodus has begun…
We really miss Moniz. I guess people who were calling for a change when he was healthy now get a chance to see what they wished for. Next year is going to be interesting.
Worst than getting embarrased by BYU on national tv is the condition of Rasu Begasu. Get well Rasu. I’m saying a prayer for you.
The defense scheme today is not right for what buy is running
Tough season. anticipating a lot of JC transfers this recruiting season.
The announcers for this game were very good. I liked the fact that they could make fun of themselves.
Buff, I really don’t think Graves played too bad, its just that we had to make a change to wake up the team. I guess it didn’t work.
#298 exactly, that is why Aranda is not ready for the HHC position. He’s guessed wrong on too many this year in the second half meltdowns. Maybe in a few years.
Very, very disappointing. Make a coaching change now. He has lost too much of the fan base. Bottom-line: too many empty seats in the stadium and losing record.
Thank you for passing along the news about LV.
Saying healing prayers for his super quick recovery.
Please make the game interesting and put in the 3rd string qtr back
#301 Compared to Austin, he was excellent. There is no chemistry out there.
All the best to LV RB. Get Well.
No QB could have made a difference. Too much swimming at the beaches and goofing off in the off season makes one a timid receiver.
Miano needs to seek other employment.
Get well soon, LV…
Prayers for your speedy recovery! …
Not a very good on side kick. It’s been that kind of night.
Mahalo Mack.
You tried.
Nuff.
duffer – what the score for men’s basketball?
We have had a history of not being able to cover tight ends. Why is that? Year after year teams come in with tight ends and they kill us. On those 2nd and 3rd down plays we know they’re coming and we still can’t cover.
Let’s get ourselves a few of those.
Our cheerleaders are better.
If Mac is too expensive to fire, then maybe the whole staff must go. Some of the assistant coaches are very likeable, but we have to do something. Maybe the coordinators and Tomey and Mouse. I know if we hire young bloods for the coordinators they will make a ton of mistakes, just like now. Yet, how many times today (and other games) did we think that the qb or rb was going to get tackled for a lost but ended up making a big play? Maybe its the players. Sorry, everybody, including the coaches, but right now I’m frustrated and saying anything to get this thing going.
I know it’s wishful thinking to think we could win, but would be nice to see us play in a hurry. I mean why try an on side kick if all we’ll do is slow play on offense?
31 – 31 at the half.
like i said–puka net defense
gmahoney . . .
That would be true for nearly every game.
The announcers kept using the word, “consistency” something they had and we did not, particulary after the half. Disappointing.
Pau.
Aloha Mack and staff
Maybe more dicipline on the team from the coaches. Like if you walk back to the huddle, you sitting. Also, this lipping off is not cool. Sit ‘um. Lack of hustle will cost you. No practice, no play or at least no start. I love me attitude must go.
Mahalo, Warriors. Mahalo, Seniors. Best wishes to all of you in your future endeavors.
So, what’s next?
The speculation must be all over the place. I like Tuioti. I think he’s a keeper.
How about Kahuku vs. Houston in the Hawaii Bowl?
Aloha and best wishes to the Warrior seniors.
We sure are good at the five yard down and out, shuffle pass and bubble screen. Same old same old.
Gotta fire him tonight.
Get the search up and running right now. Don’t want to hamstring recruiting or the next staff.
fire Mack Brown.
As some of the Tsaiko’s requested, let’s wait till after the game to talk about Mack. Let the bashing begin. This may be better than going out to party. And yes I’m a troll but I BELIEVE!!!
Looked like 29,000 in the stands. No worry about next year, no PPV and no ESPN so 35,000 should be in the stands to cheer on the Warriors in 2012. I just wish the coach worked the players harder so the seniors wouldn’t go out like this. Easy practice makes the game hard.
We have many coaches but the head coach, the assumed designated head leader, is responsible for setting the tone for the success of the entire team.
The University of Hawaii is a higher learning institution.
Like other discipline’s students, football players too take what they’ve learned throughout their lives and go there to learn and what it takes to get to the next level.
That said, if football is akin to a field of study, the coaching team should be teaching its students, the players, how to play all aspects of the game and at a higher level.
So I’m confused.
We have talented players who do many wonderful and amazing football things on the field.
Yet week after week game after game I’ve not witnessed very much progression in learning by these talented players.
Students naturally should count on their teachers for instruction, coaching, evaluation, and correction.
If one measurement of learning success is thru progression with each game, but same errors happen every game or throughout the season from beginning to end, then is it the player who is not learning, or the coaches who are not teaching and are they even teaching properly???
If we are speculating and if we were looking, I think Mike Sherman, if he wants to come, is available and affordable may be someone to look at. Yes he had two 6-6 seasons, but that was in the a fairly good conference with a rebuilding situation. He is a no nonsense, fundamental football guy. That’s what we need, the “gadget” has run its course. The announcers stated that BYU knew our receivers tendencies and were ready.
Okay, that was speculating.
no more snaps, tough one to clear
Hawaii Bowl. Rather see Kahuku play Iolani. Heck more fans would actually show up! LOL, but true.
Got nothing to say. Where Hawaii goes from here it is up to the powers that be. Hope the banquet tomorrow night is not like a funeral.
Prayers and blessings to Rasu and family. That’s the most important thing.
Mahalo to players and coaches for the season, regardless of the outcome. We appreciate all of your dedication.
All that being said… yikes. This felt like “The Heartbreak Season”. So many games seemed within reach… but they slipped away due to blocked kicks, missed PATs, turnovers, ill-timed penalties, lost opportunities. There were enough positive plays to give hope, but that hope turned out to be false down the stretch. Like what happened after halftime today. In some ways, this type of season hurts more than being blown out as soon as the whistle blows.
I’m no expert. Not even close. I don’t know enough about the game to even offer specific suggestions. But when fans see the same mistakes being made throughout a few seasons, questions need answering.
Thank you to the senior Warriors. Your sacrifices and heart have not gone unnoticed. Some will decry and sully your efforts. But I choose to remember you for the good you have done and all you have accomplished for and with the team and for yourselves.
Once a Warrior, always a Warrior! Bravissimo, Warriors! Bravissimo!!!
Why does it take so long to get Senior Night going? I said we would leave if the forklift came out. It did, but we’re trying to stay and watch the ceremony. Not too many fans left.
oldie . . .
Thanks for the games. Was able to watch the games on ESPN2/3 all season. Next year, though, no such luck.
man that byu quarterback must have been superman. weird watching uh db bouncing off of him like a pachinko ball.
wafan, I’m sure JD and the MWC will work out something about the Hawaii fans being able to watch the game on the tube. Or can they just cut us off, cold turkey?
Stephen Tsai:
December 1st, 2011 at 12:04 pm
This could have been the final practice of the year.
There’s a party for the seniors tonight.
I guess the blog host had a feeling – he’s right as usual.
takings things too far?
#341 that’s uncalled for. As much as they beat us, we lost.
The delete button will soon be pressed.
What now? keep the coach? total rebuild with new coach? USC up next with a tough schedule looming.. I hope JD sticks around.. Wonder if Mike Belotti likes plate lunches + wear slippahs to work on fridays!
The only coaches they should keep is linebacker and defensive line – the rest can go and let the new headcoach bring in his staff.
On a lighter note, amazing game between Wiscy and Michigan State going on now. Whew. Barnburner!
Mahalo Warriors. Onward and upward.
BIK
beat USC.
I think the UH Admin and AD may have put themselves in a pickle. Had they extended Mack’s contract prior to the end of the season, there would be bickering about him being over paid and such but we would have a coach for the next few years. Now, however, even at a significantly lower pay scale, they would have a difficult time justifying any extension as it would behoove UH to get the best possible coaching team for maximum that they can afford in order to build the program up and forward. Keeping Mack, would put the eyes on Hawaii as a team with a Lame Duck coach. Buying his last year out would be very costly. How can UH justify those additional costs?
Interesting …
ppj2 . . .
Dunno. If it is about cash, and it is, we are the little people who get stepped on. Hoping, though, we will have online access. Not sure I can listen to BC on KKEA the entire season. Junk!
wafan,
Glad you were able catch all the games. Not many requests for games this year.
RE: My #226
Sorry abut the bad timing of my post, but Liz’s (John’s sister) wording was kinda ominous. If so, healing prayers for John from all his Tsai-ko friends would help.
I have not been able to contact Kumi or his sister in Vegas yet. If any of his friends can make contact, please share any info, as appropriate.
USC will be ranked #1 when UH plays them to open the season. Even if Barkley goes pro.
Weirdest post-game phone call from some guy in Pearl City. He chose not to go to the game and wanted to know the final score. WHAT?!?! No mo radio in PC?
ST,
Please unplug the blog soonest.
Ceremonies over.
Thank you, Seniors!
Guess who is not voting for Romney . . .
Funniest post-game commercial was for some restaurant where everyone goes to continue the celebration following the Warrior victory.
I guess the place went out of business a while back?
Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
Okay, sorry. The last one was uncalled for.
Still . . .
Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
3rd quarter scoring in 2011:
UH 7, Col 14
UH 6, Was 3
UH 7, UNLV 10
UH 24, La Tech 14
UH 14, SJSU 0
UH 6, NMSU 6
UH 0, Idaho 7
UH 3, USU 14
UH 7, Nevada 7
UH 14, Fresno 0
UH 7, Tulane 2
UH 0, BYU 28
Total against D-IA competition: UH 95, opponents 105 (-10)
So, the trend goes like this:
2006: +106
2007: +14
2008: -56
2009: -77
2010: +2
2011: -10
Prayers for Rash Begasu
Talked to Matlin after game. Next 2-3 days will be interesting.
It’s scary this team that lost so badly tonight to BYU will open against USC to start the 2012 season. Maybe Hawaii can get out of their contract with USC via an obscure mercy rule.
#369 – the good news is attendance should be 40,000.
#369 I hope you not thinking of writing an anonomous letter to them.
Searching for good news concerning UH. Wahine basketball won their 1st D1 game today. Yeah!
papajoe2,
San Diego State has been a member of the MWC since it started. Most of San Diego is covered by Time Warner Cable (which is the same company that owns Oceanic in Hawaii) and all of those cable customers have been shut out from watching SDSU sports.
Dish customers are also shut out from watching the mtn network.
DirecTV customers do get the mtn.
I *love* ESPN3, as it is how I’ve seen a lot of games this season. I saw the last game in a Vegas hotel room and I’m not in a hotel room less than 1 mile away from Disneyland, so without ESPN3 I would have been unable to catch the game.
When the MWC signed its TV contract, BYU was promised by the TV holders that streaming services (similar to ESPN3) would be set up for all MWC schools. Unfortunately, the MWC TV rights holders later said that *no* streaming services would be allowed because they wanted to protect their TV ratings. The mtn network has all been about forcing cable companies to carry it and forcing customers to get DirecTV or get their cable company to get the mtn…they haven’t cared if many of the fans of MWC schools were unable to watch the games.
Time Warner doesn’t have a great relationship with Comcast. Comcast owns the mtn network and has shut Time Warner out in many areas, including San Diego. Time Warner owns Oceanic. UH fans could be forced to get DirecTV if they want to see UH football…but then UH fans have to have Oceanic if they want to see all non-football UH teams.
With streaming not an option, UH fans in Hawaii and the mainland are really going to be hurt.
My thoughts and prayers are with Rasu’s family. I hope that he pulls through whatever he is going through now.
“I’m now in a” instead of “I’m not in a”…
Come on guys let’s not let troll have his ways. Let the troll have his meger “happiness” during this holiday season.
Merry Christmas to all….let’s not forget the reason for the season! Goooooooo Warriors!
Garret, do you know if all the games in the MWC are shown on Comcast or MWC channel? If it is not shown, will it be available on other channel or streamlined? Doesn’t sound like it but I have to ask.
More bad news about UH. Men’s basketball team down to Pepperdine in second half. Hope they pull through.
Auwe, men’s basketball team lost to Pepperdine 73-67.
I don’t think that Arizona State will hire JJ, no matter what those reports say. Those Arizona radio guys who said that JJ met with Arizona State for a long time today do not seem credible to me…SMU is hosting a LOT of 3-star and 4-star recruits today and one of them committed to JJ today–a 3-star WR who had offers from Colorado, Georgia Tech, and many other schools.
SMU now has 21 commits.
The games are NOT streamed online.
The channel that Comcast owns is called the “mtn” channel. If Oceanic doesn’t carry the mtn channel (like Time Warner doesn’t cover it in San Diego) then Oceanic customers won’t see any UH games on the mtn network.
Oceanic owns the rights to all of UH’s non-football games. That means that they won’t let DirecTV or Dish Network show OC16 games. So, people who get DirecTV to see UH football games won’t see the other UH teams play.
Met a lot of Tsaikos and Tsaiketts at today’s tailgate. The fuud, oh what can I say that already hasn’t been said. Hawaiin theme with a little calabash cousins grinds. And the desserts………..We are all hurting whether you like the coach or not. Keep it cool at the after tailgate and celebrate the seniors. I will not make it there because I cannot see from this tearing eyes. College football is over for me. On to the pros but they are missing some of the former Warriors.
NEXT!
One thing all coaches / players want to do is win a National Championship. JJ going to a BCS school would surprise me one bit.
ppj2 . . .
Was painful enough without you having to rub it in with the TGate and food.
Thanks. Thanks for nothing . . . HA!
Garret, the other UH teams are in a different conference. Does the Big West and the one with the Men’s Vball have a tv contract with anyone? Will we be able to see those games? I have Oceanic so kinda bummed about football on being shown. If they televise ALL UH football games, then I may change subscribers, but if only 1 or 2, then not worth it.
wafan, you like I tell you what kind of food we had?
Bring on the Trojans!
38 to 21, Warriors!!!
Hope springs eternal . . . (A. Pope)
PJ2,
Yes, please.
Aloha to da Seniors. We all proud of your efforts!
ppj2 . . .
Cruel and mean folks would do that to others who are suffering from afar.
Tomorrow should be interesting to see the Bowl matchups.
#390 Shoko, I would but then wafan might get on the next flight over. Besides, I don’t think the WB blog is big enough for all the dishes that was there. Now I got myself thinking…..maybe I will go back.
Anybody listen to the post game show? Just wondering what was said.
2011 Warriuor Football Players
Congratulations to all of the 2011 Warriors who have joined us now as UH Football Alumni; you are now part of the link to the great history of UH Football.
All of us who have followed your games are most proud of the dedication and ‘every play in every game’ attitude!!!
Welcome to the UH Letterwinners Club as well! Down the road when you are successful remember what helped get you to that point and don’t forget UH; your support whether it is financial or via UH community volunteerism is so important to the success of Warrior Football.
Tonight I say to every one of you ‘I am proud to be a UH Football Alum. I am proud you are now Warrior Football Alums’.
Outside of us it is hard to understand
TGate must be going strong, still. Sure there is some gnashing of teeth on the food I am not there to enjoy.
Tsigh. One of these days . . .
Was there any positive mentioned?
Coaching change?
Names?
5th century!
Well, at least until the spam and troll(s) are deleted.
prayers and positive thoughts to LV. get well, brother.
If there will be any coaching changes it will probably come up sometime this week. Stay tuned…
This may be an interesting week for the Warrior program.
Tired listening. Gave up when that clown from Pearl City called. Just was not willing to listen to any other foolishness from blissful folks.
Oops . . .
Tired = Tried
But then, I guess either one works.
Nytal!
UH offensive system needs an overhaul. For that matter, so does the defensive system. The run and shoot doesn’t work too good anymore.
Otherwise it’s more of the same in 2012.
I feel for the team. Who is LV and Rasu?
With the season now at an end…
I want to say thank you to all the Seniors and the entire team for the entertainment. Good luck to you guys, your future is what you make of it. Imua!
To our coaches, trainers, staff, student helpers of UH athletics program, thank you for your hard work and effort this season.
Thanks to ST for keeping us up to date on Warrior athletics. You sir are Tsaiarific.
To the bloggers, you make following UH sports entertaining. We may not always agree, or in some cases never agree, but such is life and it’s always good to read different points of view.
Blessings to all of you during this holiday season, be safe, have FUN, eat plenty, and share Aloha whenever you can.
-IWWTHM
p.s. And as a wise and physically imposing man of the cloth once stated, “Make memories, make memories, make memories…”
iwonder – amen!
I was suprised at the player rotation in the 4th 1/4.
Even though it was senior night and the non-starting seniors should get a few reps, the 4th 1/4 of this game was made for putting the future on the field. BYU was in control of the game already at this point. Putting in the future is NOT throwing in the towel, it is looking down the road. It might be a coaching philosophy but I am from the ‘old school’ and that is how it is done in my experience both as a player and as a coach.
replay is on now
Thanks, HBod. Wanted to watch it again. The clouds just rolled in at halftime – literally. Too bad…thank you Seniors. We’ll see you at the Waterhouse Memorial Football Awards Banquet tomorrow night. Not sure if anyone posted, but turnstile attendance was just over 30K.
MAHALO plenty SENIORS for your contributions throughout your UH football careers.
On the other hand, am I the only one who was angry at the coaching staff during the 4th quarter. Down 4 possessions (28 points, 41-13), why is UH NOT in a hurry up offense? Was UH conceding with nine minutes left in the game? At least give your seniors the chance to go out fighting. They deserve that much. I truly like Coach Mack and have wished him nothing but the best since he was hired. But, if a coach don’t understand what needs to be done to win, then he doesn’t deserve to be a head coach in any level. I hope he takes this time off to reflect on the season.
Stayed until the very end after the alma mater and Senior Walk.
Thank you Warrior Football Team, Band, Dancers, and Cheerleading Seniors for all of your hardwork and dedication throughout the season and time while at the University of Hawai’i!
Much success to you all! — This auntie will be cheering for you! 🙂
Love to you all,
UHfan808

BleedGreen808,
I was thinking the same thing. Rolo seems to have no sense of urgency ever. Call me insane but I’m hoping Coach Mack is given an extension on the condition there are changes on offense. Aranda is a bit conservative for me, but the real problem is our inability to score. I believe next year will be Mack’s payoff year. I truely believe with some coaching tweaks the team will be better. Go Warriors!
Mahalo to the seniors. They fought like Warriors. Looking forward to seeing Stump G lead the team next year.
UHfan808, now you did it. wafan cannot be there since he lives in Washington so he’ll probably jump off the shortest bridge in Wa.. I cannot come since my eyes filled with tears and I cannot see to drive. We lost horribly and worst yet, UH football season is pau. The crying continues. sniff, sniff.
O’oe Carr: Future Miss Hawaii and/or local TV news reporter. Nice piece on Marine Biology Institute on Coconut Island, followed by live footage on the sideline.
Old diver,
You’re trippin. You believe your idea to be realistic? If so, you need help. Mack needs to go.
With the season done, I hope that JD and the powers that be, evaluate everything that has been going on with the football team. I trust that their decisions will be allow the future of UH football to improve.
Get out of your fantasy world and stop tryin to sound so Mr. Warrior-Faithful.
#409 oldtimer808, LV or Rasu Begasu (pronounced Las Vegas Japanese style) is a former sumo wrestler is Japan. He lives in Las Vegas and host the Taikos along with a few others whenever the Warriors play in LV. He arranges places for the Tsaiko to get together before and after the game and its not limited to just game day. I was very fortunate to finally meet him at the last UH/UNLV game. I know his real name but I’m not sure I should release it without permission. I remember his comments on the blog and especially when the blog is slow, he would post sooo many funny jokes or his humorous adventures in his life. Other Tsaiko could tell you a lot more about him because I don’t really know him personally. Please say a prayer for him. Aloha. ppj2
TO THE SENIORS: We are proud of you. Keep your heads up high and the best to all of you.
To the rest of the UH Warriors – We appreciate all of you and your hard work and dedication.
427 +1!
Thanks for posting i ave bookmarked this site, I hope you will update this article again
I can teach you more regarding auto scratch remover fix it pro pen . They wish to permit something that reveals this portentously named auto scratch remover. But, let’s take a theoretical example. To locate a decent auto scratch remover you might have to imagine outside the box. You might have to continue to try that as often as possible. My experience with auto scratch remover is something I’ve been going through as well. That year shoppers must get in on a good deal car scratch filler . In effect, in this installment, I’m going to give you a good many quick tips for auto scratch remover removing glass scratches .

#428 DPK, Okay, I give up. What is the answer.
To the Seniors:
You played hard and with all your heart! These are life lessons, continue to strive towards your goals with the same heart! God bless you and your future. Thanks for the memories!
I will continue to be a Warrior fan because of your efforts!
GO WARRIORS!!
Mahalo to the Seniors for your dedication and hard work. Mahalo to Coach Mac and co. for keeping the team together with character. 2012 begins tomorrow.
For those who wish to implicate themselves with slurs and hate, the blog has your email! They know where you are. Go Warriors.
Another bad performance on national TV. Luckily, our game’s ratings will be low because of the other televised games. The sunset shots were beautiful.
OMG – I was just screening some of the posts re: tonight’s final 2011 game and saw the posts about Las Vegas/Rasu. My heart sunk with the news of his current situation.
Last time I remember shedding tears was 4 years ago when Margo was diagnosed with cancer. Thank God she is in full remission and doing very well. As for John/LV/Rasu – He is truly one of the most honorable/humble people I have had the pleasure of meeting. He is a true gentleman. I beleive his years of sumo has lead to his current state of health. He’s been receiving dialysis treatments several times time a week for a couple of years. Please say a prayer for him.
Nice pigskin!
My friend Lil said that she enjoyed having the complete UH college football experience today. Including the pre-game & post-game meals, Senior Night, stomping on defense, sitting in the nosebleed section protected from the drizzle. We all had a good time.
Met Darius Bright’s Dad tonight who came in from Georgia.
Back in August 2009 bhf2 and I exchanged ideas about McMackin and the need to give him time to create his own vision/version of the Warrior football team. The transition from one leader – June Jones – to another – Greg McMackin – like any other entity – for-profit, non-profit, political, educational – needs three years to come to fruition under a new leader.
We agreed that the 2008 team was cobbled together with almost no new players recruited by McMackin – and it showed. The 2009 season was about 40% GM and 60% JJ BUT different ways of growing the team in the right direction according to McMackin had begun in earnest and was paying off in a variety of ways.
The 2010 season turned out to be potentially great which is why everyone was so eager to see 2011 start well and finish even better because with just a few Jones’ recruits left on the team, everyone else now belonged to McMackin.
What we expected 92 days ago was quickly blown away in Las Vegas and the team never really got back on track in the ways we expected.
McMackin is fully responsible for this season’s outcome. No, he could not control the injuries any more than he could control the weather or the sometimes junk officiating, but what he could do is create within his coaching staff the ability to break down the intellectual & emotional barriers and to be a lot more creative & resilient.
I strongly urge that the UH-Manoa administration and the Athletic Director sit down on Monday for a frank & open discussion about what to do next – and then do it.
Meanwhile, we have the Wahine volleyball team to support next weekend and the men’s basketball team on Sunday. Welcome Miah.
And then we have men’s volleyball in five weeks plus baseball & softball slightly more than two months from now.
We’ve got a lot to look forward to this school year and lots of reason to yell loudly. Look forward to seeing you at the three lower-campus venues over the next five months.
Can anyone explain the QB switch to me? Have some faith in the guy you declare the starter. Austin came in and the offense literally went backwards.
I NEVER thought I would say this, but there looked to be a lot of quit out there tonight.
I really pray that LV pulls through…
The NCAA has no love for Wahine Volleyball. The articles written on the NCAA site for women’s volleyball was mostly done by the school or city that won their respective games. UH’s win over Colorado State was written out of Colorado. Basically stating how they lost and what happened in their defeat. Not show casing the victory of the Wahine. On top of that no Wahine players name were even mentioned.
The NCAA is full of it and needs to be taken down. They are the dictators of college sports. Dictators today are getting fewer and fewer and hopefully the NCAA will follow the dictator’s demise.

Senior night
big John…pulling for you my friend.
prayers.
(((((((((~rasu begasu~)))))))))
so if you’re telling me the QB change was because it was senior night, I will assume that the coach gave up on the game.
So frustrating . . .
Mahalo to the seniors. Sad to see you go out on such a sour note.
Yes, Las Vegas…please get better. You’re in our thoughts. Brew, meant to say this earlier, but it was so nice to see the return of your great graphics.
Eric, yes….ESPN did a great job (again) with the scenic shots and many mentions of the 70th anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor this week.
Kim Fujiuchi/Mike Biscotti/Na Koa – nice job in getting the former Rainbows/Warriors together this afternoon and bringing them back for the 2011 Warriors. That was a nice touch…
kev-1
Dunno if they were throwing in the towel.. I think it was two-fold, they were hoping a change might give them the break they needed and the fact that it was senior night made the decision easier.
Graves was getting pretty banged up, too.
Prayers for our good friend Las Vegasu.
Graves was taking some shots, but if you look at when the collapse started, it was poor defensive play, followed by the Iosefa fumble, then more poor defensive play, a dud series, then QB change. Can’t put any of that on Graves. He never even got his chance.
I want to know who made the call to pull him. Mack or Rolo. Knowing that would explain a lot.
My perspective is that the percentage of division 1 caliber type players on the Warrior’s team are not enough. Being so and the injuries sustained this year made it difficult for them to win. However it could be concluded that coaching strategies in 2 games did cost UH a winning season and their bowl game.
For UH to continue to compete and have 10 game winning seasons the athletes of division 1 caliber needs to be increased. Meaning also size and speed especially at our receivers and our defensive backs.
I believe the players did their best based on their athleticism. In football size, strength and speed will prevail the majority of the time.
An average coach with the best athletes will win more than a great coach with good athletes.
kev-1
Not putting anything on Graves.. but maybe they didn’t want to take chances considering what happened to him just one short week ago.
The RnS is a thing of beauty when it works.. but when it doesn’t, it’s especially hard on the defense. The three and out come quickly and the defense is back out before they’ve had ample rest. When the RnS doesn’t work, our defense gets gassed somewhere in the third qtr.
Got to think long and hard about the offense and defense this off season and find something that they can make work.
#440 kev-1
Once we got behind by three scores… with the time left in the game, because Graves mostly throws short passes or he runs, our best chance to win, with the time left, was to put Austin in.
Austin has the arm and the knowledge of the O to get big chunks of yards quickly… that’s not Graves skill set.
453, 454 . . . both good points. I’m just frustrated I guess.

Don’t worry you are not alone.
BCS Guru says that TCU will not make it into the top 16 for the BCS, which means that *no* non-AQ team will make a BCS bowl this year…however, UH is losing all of its money from the WAC this year so UH wouldn’t have shared in the non-AQ BCS money anyway.
BCS Guru also says that Oklahoma State will face LSU in the national title game, Oklahoma State will replace Alabama at #2. Apparently Virginia Tech’s loss gave Oklahoma State a boost.

Sad to see football season end in Hawaii..but glad, in a way, to have it behind us so that we can look at a fresh start. I feel bad the our Seniors had to go out without a Bowl this year. We had some talented players there.
The red-shirt freshmen have been baking and stewing in the back burner for a spell.. hopefully they will come out red hot and shaking and baking come spring. Lots of talent in the pool, will they be D1 ready, though? We can only hope.
Time for McMackin to go…this game was a microcosm of the season, the mistakes, the poor play on offense and defense. We need to clean house as attendance is down, etc. Let the speculation begin…
What’s scary right now is what our gray shirts might do. I think they still have their options. AND depending on the contract negotiations, if any, Rolo, Aranda, Tuioto, etc may be forced to look elsewhere ASAP.
The season is over and now is the right time (if such a thing exists) to talk about a new beginning for Warrior Football.
If we can somehow find the money or agree to spreading out the payments over several years, we should put in Tomey as interim coordinator.
I do hope that Tuioti, Rolovich, Lee, and maybe even Tomey (or as director of recruiting) would be retained by the next coaching regime.
The new mantra should read “Let Lee Loose” on local recruiting. Let Lee and Tomey loose in Hawaii to do whatever the heck they want to do to get our local prospects to stay.
Rocky Seto?
Mahalo Dr and Mrs Heiniken Healer for the classiest post-game Tsai-koGate ever!
Mahalo Warriors, for a tremendous effort in spite of illness and injury.
Mahalo Seniors for leaving it all on the fields of practice and play for the last 5 years! Seeing you with your families and loved ones was a memorable experience tonight. We are so grateful for all you have done through thick and thin, through health and illness for your team and for Hawaii.
GO WARRIORS!!!
las vegas… Get well soon. Plenty more good times to be had.
God Bless!
Best wishes to LV. I never met him, but I remember his funny series of jokes during the slow periods of the blog. He is one funny man who is full of life and love for the Warriors.
Wow, superb blog layout! How long have you been blogging for? you make blogging look easy. The overall look of your site is wonderful, as well as the content!
Did you design the topic this well with the default website tools? Your blog is incredible.
mahalo warriors.
i was there.
i saw you lay it on the line.
you did what you could given the tools you were given to work with.
see you next year.
i’ll be there.
Al,
I think you meant to say:
“you did what you could given the guidance and instruction you were given to work with.”
pulling graves had nothing to do with what he did or didn’t
it, was just another instance of indecision that has plagued this staff this year and for the four years.
it, was a virtual timeout. only this time it involved two qbs.
ir, was an abandoment of commitment, sigh, again.
it is why,
…it’s time
kevin…you’ve become good at picking up my subliminal messages
Coaches have let the seniors down again for the FOURTH year in a row… (was a slightly different staff five years ago).
Student-athletes are not paid pros, they are still young and need proper guidance and instruction.
The student-athletes, on the football field, were FAILED again by the people paid to do so.
Speaking of next season, I just learned during today’s game that I will need to pick up three MORE seats making a total of 10.
Interesting… was concerned I might have to relinquish a few.. not all, but a few.
34 seconds left in the half with decent field position.
we take a knee.
the subliminal message rang loud and clear.
coach had no confidence in his team.
again we played not to lose (turn over the ball, same smell).
we did that year one. (against cinci, for example, instead of pedal to the metal we start running to run out the clock in the third quarter…what?)
that was the signal to all of things yet to come..
the guy is a nice man.
but, it’s time.
i did enjoy the early afternoon start time.
it wasn’t so hot at all. okay, so i sit on the makai sideline.
there’ll be a lot of season tickets to be had next year for those who sat in the sun for a couple of hours.
i liked the fact that when i got home it was early enough to go home and have dinner with the boss.
…wait til next year guys.
Morning, everyone!
First of all, prayers for you, Las Vegas!
Secondly, mahalo to all of our seniors… football, band, cheer, dancers.
Pulling Graves to insert Austin may seem like a foolish move, because it didn’t do what it was intended to do… give spark to the offense. If it worked, no one would be questioning the move. In fact, you same people would be then questioning why we didn’t start him instead of Graves. Always something to complain about, no matter what angle is taken.
Finally, I’m just wondering why everyone is so enamored with Coach Rolo, even with the types of play calling that so many vocal people are against. Down at least three scores, with time running out, and we’re still not playing with any sense of urgency. As I stated over a month ago, our offense takes on the personality of Coach Rolo… laid back. Our defense takes on Aranda’s fiery personality. On top of this, players have already publicly stated that the coaches are doing what they did last year, when we won 10 games. The biggest difference is that this year, they are just not making the plays.
Still would like to see all of our possible choices/scenarios before we jump ship. Changes have to be made, but just not sure if wholesale changes are what’s needed, or if we just need a change to specific positions.
One more question that’s been bugging me… seems like most teams we play have figured that intense pressure can neutralize the RnS. Ever since the Sugar Bowl, we’ve had a tough time giving our QB’s the time they need to go through their progressions. Is it time to move to a more draft-friendly, NFL-applicable, recruit-interested offense?
The sun will rise this morning. Well, it will in about another 1.5 hours, anyhow.
Good morning, Tsai-kos!
Looks like the post-TG was a good one. UHfan808, thanks. I think.
I thought you were a nice person but I can see now that you are evil. Wait until the next time you visit. Once in the forests all the trees look the same.
Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
Thanks, kinda, for the food list. now I gotta go on a cooking spree so I can enjoy an eating spree.
Tsigh.
If you are going to the banquet tonight have fun! Super way to show your support of the team!!!
ok…. NOW can we fire him??
Well, demote him to Defensive coordinator. Aranda is not ready for that position.
Another critical fumble in this game… hmmm… point shaving??? sorry… just saying.
PIAA DSS says that JJ is almost a lock at Arizona.
@482: permission granted! He has not proven that he has the capacity to move this team forward and is not the coach to lead them into a more competitive conference. The buck stops with him and it’s time for Mack to go.
good morning Tsaikos,
sad day for the Warriors, but the sun is still going to rise in a few minutes. while at our Christmas production rehearsal, i was elated to find out that UH was ahead at the half, but realizing at the same time 13-10 was not going to be the final score. Much to my chagrin, BYU came out with guns blazing, and won the game in the 3rd quarter.
I just want to thank all the players for their efforts and the coaches. Football in Division I is BIG BUSINESS, just look at all the HC’s that are unemployed today. I am not going to get into what we should do, who we should fire and what not; the powers that be in Manoa realize that they are at a crossroads, and it’s time to cross the road.
Have a great Sunday, let us lift our brother Las Vegas in prayer as he battles for his life, and let’s REMEMBER what is really important……blessings to all of you, make memories, make memories, make memories……….
Healing thoughts for Rasu Begasu!
Thanks to the Warriors for their efforts!
Next year!
Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂
Thanks for your hard work Warriors. Biggest Mahalo to the Seniors. Best of luck in all future endeavors.
Bulla, you are so positive and tell it like it is. God bless you and your family for all you do.
Mahalo to all the Seniors on our Warrior Football Team… You were the heart of this team! Best of luck to you all!
And for the rest of us, ….
Let’s not forget.. Friday night.. Stan Sheriff…
Wahine Volleyball… UH vs USC… if you can, be there. The Wahine will need your vocal support against the Trojans!
Papajoe –
Sorry for not answering your question earlier. Went to bed early on such a depressing night. Prayers for LV.
To answer your question, I don’t know what we do now. Wait I guess. I imagine what ever happens, it will happen fairly soon.
One thing for certain, we know what we’ve seen with our own eyes.
Things must change. Its just a question of how they will change, who is going to make them, and when that will happen.
In the meantime,
GO WARRIORS!!!
Good Morning Tsaikos!!
It’s been a rough season but want to stay Mahalo to all the players, especially the Seniors, for all their hard work. I will be attending the banquet tonight to show my full support of the players.
Everyone have a great day!!
JJ interviewed for ASU? Didn’ t he tell ST that he has a job and a contract? Maybe he is throwing a hint to Hawaii that he may be available? Of course, our administrators are a little slow to pick upmon the hint. Chance um, worst he can say is “no”. We need him to bring us back to where we were. This progrqm really can’t afford to take a step or two backward right now. We are seriously losing interest / fan base. May be hard to get back up if we don’ t try to make the right moves now. Chance ‘um guys..
#418 UHf808, Homey’s tripe and garlic shrimp. I was looking at the shrimp, wanted to eat some, but was so full, I could only watch Homey suck out the head and peal ‘um and eat ‘um. Did you folks finish Pomai’s 24 pounds of Kalua pig? I tried my best but couldn’t do the duty.
Palolo, years ago when this blog was in it’s infantile or maybe embryonic stages, the commonality factors were food, football, family, friends (and i’d like to throw in faith). over the years we have supported the Warriors of Manoa; some may say we have a few maniacal fans in our motley crew, but so be it…stand for something or fall for everything. i love all the Tsaikos, and even an occasional, i said occasional troll…….
someone said, the optimist looks at the glass half full, the pessimist looks at the glass half empty, and the opportunist just drank the water, haha.
we are at a critical juncture for our football program at the University, some of our in-house professors might conjecture that it is at a ‘critical-mass’ level……all i know is something has to change……..if the restaurant keeps delivering bad meals from entree to expresso, you don’t fire the waiters and waitresses……..but the sun still rose today, we are still in beautiful Hawaii nei…..and the boys still want to play…..
JJ is not the answer for this program. That falls into the category of Recycle, Rehash and Reuse philosophy. (Which this state does anyway on the administration level.)
The answer lyes beyond that circle. Try something and someone different that knows how to manage a program. Their rhetoric must match their record.
Bulla, May I add another word to your strong based Five “F’s” ?
Food
Football
Family
Friends
Faith
Freedom
DPK 427 +1? I still don’t know the answer. You Tsaikos always confuse me. When time fo take pixture you guys count, 1……….2…….. and…… tree. Das why all the time in da pixture I not looking at the camera cuz I cannot count dat high. I looking at da tree.
500 or something ladat.
Main ting you still get your sense of humor, Papajoe. 🙂
Its gonna be an interesting couple of weeks coming up, no?
CoolEthan, good one, and we get some guys going to throw in ‘fishing’, haha…its aaallllll good, we just have to stick together….. 🙂
ppj2 . . .
Big news!!! You are a Tsai-ko too. Yup, a full-on, kicking and screaming, food gobbling, refreshment guzzling, foot-stomping, party-hardy Tsai-ko.
Sorry to burst your bubble. HA!
dpk
good morning, give your bride a hug, ‘the beast’ returns on wednesday and is home for a month to thaw out…..
Great Morning All!
Welcome to the 2012 season!
It’s time, as others have said, to renew, refresh and reenergize.
I am excited about the Warriors’ upcoming run at the MWC title!
2011 is history…learn from it, never repeat it!
Aloha Kakahiaka!
Healing energy to rasu, one of our great Tsai-kos and friend to all.
Mahalo to the T-Gate team for a wonderful season. Especially Mr. And Mrs. Sailor Blue for their hospitality and the set-up and BBQ crew for their selfless service.
Last night brought back Dr. And Mrs. HeinekinHealer who put an exclamation point on the day in many ways. Mahalo, mahalo, mahalo Ke Akua for FFFFF!
Well, whatever happens, happens. It is all for reasons I will not understand. And, if you do, please explain it in logical non-emotional terms.
Still, I support the Warriors, ‘Bows, Rainbow Warriors, or whatever other name they may conjure.
Bulla,
True enough but that don’t mean you gotta be locked in to who is the Maitre’d!
😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

Yeah, what Brew said. Dey you go!
Always appreciate the efforts of the Warriors but I’ll save the money for supporting the 2012 Warriors with an additional season ticket.
But to all those with the means and inclination, have a terrific evening at the team banquet! 🙂
wow! Even Ferd says its time for Mack to go. I didn’t know he was on that side. Waiting for some news.
my (and whoever elses) side, I mean
If he’s outta here, I hope they don’t do it at the banquet. Its a time to honor those that gave it their all. Even the coaches.
Season is over – thanks for the memories.
Rasu my friend, thoughts and prayers to you and Kumi.
This is the BIG sumo tournament I want to see you win.
Here are some things I learned from last night.
The end of football as we have known it is near.
In the grand scheme of things, human beings are essentially a soul associated with a physical body in the material realm. It experiences life in a learning environment designed to help it discover and develop the characteristics of the soul’s nature and attach itself to its Creator so that by the end of life in this stage- the caterpillar has developed into the butterfly and can fly freely in the realm of spirit.
Whatsoever is conducive to the exaltation of the human spirit and helps develop its character is good. Whatsoever degrades that spirit, objectifies and dehumanizes the participants is not beneficial to humanity.
Last night, after experiencing the lokahi and aloha during the Senior Walk, there was no doubt in my mind that THIS is what our players and coaches have been working for.
If the development and overall success of our STUDENT ATHLETES ceases to be the objective and winning games becomes something to throw lives away for, then football ceases to be relevent to the human experience.
Our young men were not reared by their families to become cannon fodder and gladiators.
Change is coming but is will be a change that celebrates the human spirit.
Mahalo Ke Akua!
At least we know how Reardon and “The Ferd” feel about things…
“ferd” is right…it will come down to $$$.
I’m calling it….the Price is right.
Good morning Hawaii!
The sun also rises … but it also sets. Very zen.
Seniors – thank you for your efforts and our gratitude.
The Underclassmen – thank you also.

HAPPIEST OF HOLIDAYS TO YOU ALL!!!
GO WARRIORS!!!
😈 😈 😈 😈 😈 😈 😈 😈 😈 😈 😈 😈 😈
Until they eliminate scoreboards winning is the point of the exercise.
Sadly, and I’ll play the IWWTHM role here, but one might consider the Seniors this year as the “cannon fodder and gladiators”
The stated goals of the HC has always included making it to the bowl game and the players bought in. That doesn’t happen by gathering and holding hands and thinking good thoughts.
Just hoping that Mike Leach does the right thing. 😉
Whoah – That (#518) is far too deep for me….
Hey – it’s pretty cut and dry and falls on mostly on JD the AD’s lap.
He was tasked to run UHAD “more like a business”.
Well – as far as football goes (which is the bulk of the UHAD), THE BUSINESS IS FAILING!!!
> We’re talking W/L – unless you’re satisfied w/ mediocrity. Remember – this was versus an extremely WEAK schedule. W E A K !!!
> Attendance and viewership in dramatic decline.
> Revenues in decline (and the future looks grim – G R I M !!!).
> I’m guessing that donations and booster support are falling (I’ve heard all sorts of anecdotal stories.)
> And worst of all, overall support from the students, and fan-base, and boosters plummeting.
UH sports (especially football) provide an escape, a source of pride, joy, and morale – not just for the campus, the University, or even the State.
It also a key component of the Aloha spirit, the pulse of the Islands and 808 culture.
JD – do you job!
In simple fishing terms – it’s time to “cut bait” (probably should have done so a some time ago….) 😐
Most prognosticators have Nevada locked in to the Hawaii Bowl. Hope they play SMU again, but the majority of experts think its going to be Marshall.
Morning! 😉
Post game interview with anyone is interested.
