No rest for the Warriors

It”s the Sunday of  a bye weekend, but several Warriors, led by co-captains Richard Torres and Bryant Moniz, are working out on their own today.

As Moniz said earlier this week: Sunday is “the best time to work out … because in my mind, my opponent is not working out on Sundays. I’m trying to get better than him.”

All that gloom and doom regarding the Big East, Air Force, and MWC… UH better be firm in their negotiations with the MWC. Seems to me, they need UH more than ever.

  13. Garret October 9, 2011 9:16 am

It is great to hear that the Warrior leaders are working out today…their hard work will pay off on the field this season.

Boston College’s AD says that ESPN “told them what to do” when they added Syracuse and Pitt. Interesting timeline–ESPN offers over $1 bil to the Big East to extend their TV rights…the Big East says no since they want NBC/Comcast and Fox to bid…ESPN tells the ACC to add 2 Big East teams.

Regarding the ACC adding Syracuse and Pittsburgh, Boston College AD Gene Defilippo confirmed ESPN’s role, claiming the network “told us what to do” regarding expansion.

The ACC just signed a new deal with ESPN that will increase the revenue for each school to approximately $13 million. With the addition of Pittsburgh and Syracuse, said DeFilippo, another significant increase will come.

“We always keep our television partners close to us,’’ he said. “You don’t get extra money for basketball. It’s 85 percent football money. TV – ESPN – is the one who told us what to do. This was football; it had nothing to do with basketball.’’

    http://thebiglead.com/index.php/2011/10/09/boston-college-ad-confirms-espn-told-them-what-to-do-regarding-expansion-and-his-school-blocked-connecticut/

  15. Garret October 9, 2011 9:19 am

Also interesting is that Boston College is blocking UCONN from going to the ACC…that might actually help the Big East stay together.

While Syracuse presented no problem, UConn did – to BC, which was still fuming over what it perceived to be vitriolic comments made when BC was finally invited to join the ACC and started competing in 2005. UConn and Pittsburgh filed a lawsuit against BC, and Calhoun made comments about never playing BC again.

DeFilippo does not deny that BC opposed the inclusion of UConn.

“We didn’t want them in,’’ he said. “It was a matter of turf. We wanted to be the New England team.’’

The fired Big 12 Commissioner says that Nebraska opposed equal revenue sharing.

Beebe said none of the Big 12’s recent defections had to occur.

“I asked for them to consider it,” Beebe said of the revenue-sharing pact. “Nebraska was one of the biggest objectors of equal revenue rights, and their president Harvey Perlman said that. We could have done this two years ago and none of this would have happened.”

    http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/7080495/ex-big-12-commish-dan-beebe-says-nebraska-cornhuskers-balked-revenue-sharing

  17. Garret October 9, 2011 9:32 am

I noted that ST and others said that Texas should have learned to share to prevent the other schools from leaving the Big 12. The *facts* seem to dispute that.

    1. Nebraska earned the most money under the Big 12 revenue sharing rules when the conference was formed, not Texas. After Nebraska started to be shown less on TV after 3-4 years in the Big 12, Oklahoma took over the #1 TV revenue spot, not Texas.

    2. Nebraska tried to create their own network first, starting 2 years before Texas. Their AD talked about that publicly 5 years ago.

    3. When Nebraska left, Texas and the rest of the Big 12 made revenue sharing MUCH more equal.

    4. When the Big 12 got their $1.2 bil deal from Fox (for the games ESPN doesn’t show), Texas and the rest of the Big 12 decided last year that the $1.2 bil would be shared *equally*.

    5. ESPN and Fox show more Texas games, which means that Texas doesn’t have the right to sell many games to a third party. That is why *Kansas* made more from 3rd tier TV rights than Texas before the Longhorn Network started.

    6. Texas and Texas A&M both publicly acknowledged that Texas approached Texas A&M to try to get a joint TV network, with the money split equally. Texas A&M’s AD said that he rejected the deal and Texas’ AD confirmed that. Texas A&M’s AD said less than 2 years ago that *A&M* was ahead of Texas in setting up a network and A&M would get a network set up before Texas…so it appears they rejected the deal with Texas because A&M didn’t want to share.

    7. Having Texas share their 3rd tier rights would be the exact same thing as having UH share its PPV money with other WAC schools. Texas is making money on the games that the national TV partners don’t show, just like UH. UH made $3 mil from TV in some years when other WAC schools made $200k. Texas made 10% to 20% more from conference TV revenue (and was one of the reasons schools like Iowa State and Kansas State cashed huge checks) while UH made 1500% some other WAC schools.

I’ve pointed out before that if the “sharing” movement gains steam, *UH* is the one that is going to be lose the most money.

  18. Garret October 9, 2011 9:35 am

UH moved up in the rankings during the bye week. UH is #39 in the coaches poll since one coach voted for UH this week.

By the way, Tulane is #169 and their coaches are either selling their homes or have month-to-month leases on apartments…not a great situation for their team. I hope that they at least enjoy their trip to Hawaii even though UH will beat them by a huge number of points.

The sad thing is that beating Tulane will actually result in UH *dropping* in the computer rankings because Tulane is ranked so lowly.

The Big 12 announced they will have either 10 or 12 teams.

Big 12 officials narrowed their future configuration options to 10 or 12 schools, interim commissioner Chuck Neinas said Saturday at the Cotton Bowl.

Multiple league sources have identified Louisville, Brigham Young and West Virginia as likely expansion targets, with Louisville possibly at the top of that list.

One league source said there is hope that closure can be reached on the expansion front later this week.

  26. madeinhawaii October 9, 2011 10:25 am

When you look at the recruiting picture, the WAC schools are really doing poorly against the other conferences. Most of the AQ schools have over a dozen recruits while Hawaii shows only one 2012 recruit.

  27. Garret October 9, 2011 10:31 am

    BYU #36, 16 commits, 2 ****, 11 ***

    BSU #43, 13 commits, 1 ****, 10 ***

    SMU #49, 15 commits, 1 ****, 10 ***

Looking at madeinhawaii’s link, I think those are the schools outside of the AQ conferences (or Notre Dame). TCU recruited those players after they had accepted the Big East invite so I don’t count them as a non-AQ school for recruiting purposes.

  28. Stephen Tsai October 9, 2011 10:31 am

After the loss to Washington, computer rankings and such mean little to the Warriors.

The Warriors’ goals are to qualify for the Hawaii Bowl, win the WAC, and beat SMU.

  29. Stephen Tsai October 9, 2011 10:36 am

    MIH:

UH is in on some pretty good players.

Several will be here for the BYU game.

The problem with UH is non-sports people are making sports decisions.

    GOOD MORNING HAWAII!

  31. A-House October 9, 2011 10:40 am

    Out-of-Conference results:

Perhaps the lopsideness can be partially traced to the “lower” ranked WAC teams played the “big boys” and lost and the “big boys” played the other “lower” tier non-AQ teams and won.

Would have been great if USU and the other WAC schools won their games against the BCS schools. At least UH is 1 – 1 against BCS schools.

Conversely, some “lower ranked” schools beat the BCS teams. Perhpas, we are beginning to see a greater parity in college football.

Cetainly would have improved the WAC’s 6 -23 record.

  32. madeinhawaii October 9, 2011 10:42 am

I’d hate to see all that hard work putting together a program with depth and balance get shot because of some paperwork.

In the end, all these delays could cost UH a lot more in the seasons to come than what they will pay McMackin over his entire contract.

What’s happening with the Gibb’s contract, anyway?

UH is like a pro player. The money it makes early has to last a long time.

The big earnings, for the athletic department, are coming from football (through ticket revenue, TV, etc.). UH isn’t going to make the big bucks in basketball or baseball. It might turn a profit in those sports and get some nice change, but not the big bucks.

  41. kawika49 October 9, 2011 10:58 am

#38 So they didn’t consummate anything prior to pre or post announcement?

  42. Stephen Tsai October 9, 2011 11:00 am

Bell, Cadiz, Chun, Daniel, Lim and Collins are not on scholarship.

Not sure what happened to Uperesa’s scholarship.

  43. madeinhawaii October 9, 2011 11:02 am

That leaves 19-20 possible scholarships for Spring/Fall… (Spring if some of the scholarship players graduate in December.) Not much room for error, here.

  44. Stephen Tsai October 9, 2011 11:03 am

What’s interesting is there’s been no talk about Dana Takahara-Dias’ contract.

She’s entering the last year of a three-year agreement.

  45. Stephen Tsai October 9, 2011 11:06 am

Well, Matagiese is going to count as an initial (thanks for subscribing to our online edition).

Faalologo, Clarke, Henderson, Woolsey and Gray go on scholarship in January.

Stump isn’t eligible to go on scholarship until the end of the second summer session.

  46. kawika49 October 9, 2011 11:07 am

  50. krump1_AKA_protector October 9, 2011 11:13 am

    madeinhawaii on #26,

What you have to factor in is what are the recruiting budgets of UH and the WAC schools compared to those AQ schools over the last 2 or 3 years. My guess is that the AQ schools are spending 4-12 times (or even more) more on their budgets compared to their non-AQ counterparts. To my mind, UH among others is a vast OVER-achiever. They’re making a little go a long way. If UH had an SEC or Big-10 or even PAC-10 Budget, do you really think that recruiting would not be light years better?

  51. kawika49 October 9, 2011 11:16 am

Ok, I got it; it is mostly protractile. Back to fishing gear maintenance. Thanks ST.

  52. madeinhawaii October 9, 2011 11:18 am

    krump1_AKA_protector:

I believe, in the past few seasons anyway, by this time of the year we had a half dozen or more verbals. The WAC/MWC is in turmoil.. we have no Coach’s contract past 2012… or BB Coach.. and now Dana’s? … makes the whole Department look like a disorganized joke.

  53. Stephen Tsai October 9, 2011 11:21 am

  62. madeinhawaii October 9, 2011 12:41 pm

Ah.. that’s right.. I had forgotten about his release… So it wouldn’t have mattered unless he went somewhere where they would never play New Mexico. Maybe he’s looking forward to playing against New Mexico?

  63. Garret October 9, 2011 12:52 pm

Karl Benson is openly trying to help both Air Force and Boise State to go football-only in the Big East.

Big East officials have discussed the possibility of adding Boise State for football-only, a move that would help the league retain its automatic qualifying status for a BCS bowl bid after the current contract runs out following the 2013 regular season, according to a college official.

“We’ve had discussions with Air Force about joining in all sports but football,” WAC commissioner Karl Benson told Boston.com, the Boston Globe’s on line home. “And we would certainly be willing to talk to Boise State about the same arrangement.”

    http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/index.ssf/2011/10/big_easts_newest_expansion_tar.html

  64. Garret October 9, 2011 12:53 pm

The Big East has a big motivating factor to offer Boise State a football-only spot…

The addition of Boise would help the Big East during that next evaluation, since the Broncos’ successful 2010 and 2011 seasons would then be counted for the Big East.

  65. madeinhawaii October 9, 2011 12:55 pm

Hate to lose Boise from the MWC … dang.

  66. Garret October 9, 2011 12:58 pm

I agree with ST that leaving Mack in this contract situation is horrible for UH’s recruiting. Upper Campus has basically decided that it is fine if they don’t make a decision now, not caring that their decision has written off an entire recruiting class for UH.

The recruiting budget situation for UH hasn’t changed since last year. The difference between commits now and last year can be traced largely to the uncertainty about Mack’s situation at UH. Every school recruiting against UH must be using Mack’s contract against UH…and every recruit and their parents will want to know if the head coach will be at a school that they choose.

UH’s recruiting budget isn’t tiny anymore, thanks to JD. The articles that came out last year had the recruiting budget at $120k, which may not even be counting the Hawaiian Airlines free flights (if any are left) and does not take into account the expense of a recruiting coordinator. UH’s recruiting budget is bigger than many other non-AQ schools, but UH has to spend more money for recruiting because travel to/from the mainland makes UH spend so much more for recruiting than other schools.

  67. madeinhawaii October 9, 2011 12:58 pm

If Boise leaves the MWC along with Airforce… and the MWC needs to extend membership to Idaho and Utah State, it would be like the old WAC with the addition of UNLV, Colorado State and Wyoming. I would desperately try to negotiate NOT having to pay subsidies to Fresno, Nevada, Utah State, and Idaho. There will be more existing WAC schools than MWC schools.

  68. madeinhawaii October 9, 2011 12:59 pm

    TCU is leaving too, right?

    Auwe… owwee…

  69. papajoe2 October 9, 2011 1:00 pm

WAC trying to get those teams in the WAC without football?

  70. Garret October 9, 2011 1:00 pm

If Air Force moves its non-football teams from the MWC, which seems certain (football-only to the Big East or MWC), then the MWC will only have 5 baseball schools and some of the other nonrevenue sports might have trouble getting enough teams together. When the MWC looks for replacements, that will be a factor.

  72. Garret October 9, 2011 1:03 pm

    papajoe2,

Yes, the WAC is trying to get all of Boise State’s and Air Force’s non-football teams. Neither BSU or AF are great in the other sports, but they have some competitive teams and the WAC seems to want to gather non-football affiliates. Hurting the MWC is probably some of Benson’s motivation. I’m sure that Benson wants to help BSU also, he was always on their side on thigns.

Trivia: Air Force won the MWC’s regular-season men’s basketball title more recently than UNLV.

  73. madeinhawaii October 9, 2011 1:05 pm

The way things are turning out… CUSA might have the upper hand in the MWC-CUSA merger talks.

  74. wafan October 9, 2011 1:05 pm

If Air Force’s non-football sports leave the MWC and the MWC is short a team (i.e., baseball per Garret) might that precipitate an invitation to UH to be a full conference member?

If that happens it really will be as I said earlier today — the old WAC.

I hope the intelligent folks at upper campus who seem to be running the sports department are sharp enough and quick enough to renegotiate the pay-to-play cash.

  75. madeinhawaii October 9, 2011 1:10 pm

Would the MWC be more beneficial for our other sports than the Big West? Particularly if the Big West is able to secure a bid to the post conference games in Men’s Volleyball?

  76. madeinhawaii October 9, 2011 1:10 pm

I think the only way that happens is if travel subsidies are floored.

  77. Pomai October 9, 2011 1:20 pm

Ralph must be feeling are warm and fuzzy now.

  78. Garret October 9, 2011 1:31 pm

If the MWC wants UH for all sports, they have to eliminate the travel subsidies completely! If the MWC was negotiating with UH now for a football-only membership, UH would be able to eliminate the travel subsidies because the MWC would be desperate. Last year the situation was different, as it looked like the WAC would be dead (and the WAC’s football situation might be even worse soon) and the MWC had attractive teams and a strong AQ chance.

I would prefer UH to be a full MWC member if the travel subsidy was completely gone over this arrangement where UH pays full travel subsidies to both the MWC and Big West. But the MWC schools really wanted that travel subsidy and UH has a signed contract now.

You know what is really sad? UH has its football team spend a week in Vegas, missing an entire week of classes, because they say they couldn’t find a commercial flight to get them home from Seattle after the U-Dub game and then get them to Vegas for the UNLV game. If UH could have afforded a charter flight, the Warriors would have avoided missing all of those classes, would have been able to sleep in their beds and have a regular week of practice with a scout team, and may have won the UNLV game. UH cannot afford to pay for a charter flight for the Warriors…but UH will pay for charter flights for all MWC teams to come to Hawaii.

  79. Garret October 9, 2011 1:34 pm

UH started as a 6.5 point favorite over SJSU and the line is already up to 7.

  80. Garret October 9, 2011 1:38 pm

The Boston Globe gave an update on the Big East situation.

According to sources in the Big East, the conference is looking at a plan which will invite Navy, Air Force and Boise State into the league as members in football only as well as Temple and Central Florida as members in all sports. The possibility of adding Villanova as the 12th team in football is also being discussed.

If Louisville chooses to stay in the Big East, the league would have 12 football members and could begin a conference championship game which would increase the value of any television contract the conference would receive.

Boise State, which has become a perennial Top 5 team in the past several years is the key element. If the Broncos, who would explore the possibility of joining another conference such as the Missouri Valley Conference or the Western Athletic Conference in all other sports, came to the Big East, they would also bring much needed BCS points which are necessary for the Big East to maintain its status as a BCS bowl.

  81. Garret October 9, 2011 1:40 pm

This guy points out that Air Force didn’t actually say that they have an “offer” to the Big 12, just that the Big 12 talked with them.

Earlier today the athletic director at Air Force said they had been “approached” by the Big 12, but did not mention an offer, as one had never been made. In fact, we’re hearing as of yesterday that the conference had “approached” over a dozen teams, including the ones mentioned above, as well as USF, UCF, SMU, Houston and believe it or not…Tulane and Memphis.

Speaking of BYU, the Cougars and the conference are at an impass, but I’m told this afternoon by a source that talks are still ongoing.

We hoisted the Jolly Roger for Al, Raiders rolled the Texans. 🙂

  83. Shoko October 9, 2011 1:57 pm

    Information overload on conference realignment.

How the Warriors lost to such an inferior team like the Rebels is beyond me. They lost to a FCS team like Southern Utah then gets shutout by the Wolf Pack even though they had 5 turnovers. Me thinks Bobby Hauck’s career dissipation light is about to extinguish!

  84. Shoko October 9, 2011 1:59 pm

    Afterthought comment.

    GO NINERS!

  85. madeinhawaii October 9, 2011 2:01 pm

    Garret,

I got to agree with you on that one regarding charted flights for MWC schools but none for our own team between two road games when no commercial flight will do. Sad, really. A 4-1 team going into this Friday’s game would have so much more weight than a 3-2 team. Fans would be so much more excited early on in the season, as well.

  86. Kevin October 9, 2011 2:07 pm

Big West is more favorable for:

    1) Rainbow Wahine volleyball and softball

-recruiting pipeline for both in the state of California and the Big West provides multiple bids to the NCAAs for softball and for Wahine volleyball the competition level alone is better off.

    2) Baseball

-same reasons as for softball and women’s volleyball for both recruiting pipeline and the competition level is FAR superior in the Big West baseball scene.

Plus for all those sports, even sports like tennis and cross country the travel budget won’t get hit as much.

So for the majority of non-football sports, the Big West is a FAR better choice.

  87. Kevin October 9, 2011 2:09 pm

WE STILL TALKING ABOUT THAT UNLV RUBBISH????

  88. A-joe October 9, 2011 2:09 pm

I feel like we know everything there is to know about Texas, Texas A&M, Boise, Air Force, BYU, the MWC, The Big 12, the Big East, the CUSA, all of their TV deals, their AQ status, the food each player eats for breakfast and the viscosity of their crap in the afternoon.

And yet strangely, no one here has the slightest clue about our next opponent.

Anyone have the latest information on the Spartans?

Or are they simply unsearchable through Google Reader? Or are we too arrogant or ignorant to even bother?

  89. madeinhawaii October 9, 2011 2:30 pm

    A-Joe,

Spartans had a somewhat lackluster game against BYU this past weekend losing 29-16. Their top RB, Brandon Rutley, didn’t play in the game due to a sprained ankle he sustained the week before.

SJSU beat BYU in the air, 255 to 219, but lost sorely on the ground 224 to 70. Both sides gave up two interceptions. Oddly, I think SJSU also won the turn over battle 3-2… but they simply could not punch it in from the Red zone and had to settle for Field Goals.

SJSU had 3 FGs and 1 TD

BYU had 3 FGs and 3 TDs

Hawaii has to focus on fundamentals and find ways to keep themselves motivated to not fall into a “trap” game mentality.

  90. madeinhawaii October 9, 2011 2:32 pm

Coach Mack is trying hard to keep the players focused as suggested by Kevin Riley here:

  91. A-joe October 9, 2011 2:35 pm

    MIH- AWESOME!!! Mahalo!!

  92. A-joe October 9, 2011 2:41 pm

It’s history like this that put the whole game of football into perspective:

Seventy years ago, the San Jose State football team flew to Hawaii for what was supposed to be two season-ending games versus the University of Hawaii and Willamette College of Oregon. The Spartans were in Honolulu when the attack on Pearl Harbor occurred on Dec. 7, 1941 and their games on Dec. 13, and 16 were canceled.

Many San Jose State players immediately joined forces with the Honolulu Police Department and the armed services to help protect Honolulu and the island of Oahu in case of an amphibious attack by the Japanese.

  93. Slugger October 9, 2011 2:43 pm

Hawaii has to focus on fundamentals and find ways to keep themselves motivated to not fall into a “trap” game mentality.

I believe that’s what Moniz & Torres are doing with the team today.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  94. maddog50 October 9, 2011 2:46 pm

This is a simple game…the team that wants it most….wins. It is the will to win—-impose your will WARRIORS and victorious ye shall be—

  95. Ralph October 9, 2011 2:47 pm

I remember being favored over SJST at Aloha a few years ago and Tomey came in with the Spartans and they spanked us.

Forget the point spread and the stats, the boys got to work hard like Moniz and a few others are doing today and keep on working to win all three phases on the field this Friday.

  96. madeinhawaii October 9, 2011 2:49 pm

I think Garret pointed out earlier that Hawaii was a 6.5-7 point favorite in this game. With the game the Warriors had against La Tech, had Hawaii not lost to UNLV, I believe it would easily be a 14-21 point favorite this week.

  97. Ralph October 9, 2011 2:50 pm

    After further review:

After the Packers / Bills game, Buffalo released quarterback Trent Edwards.

During the Packers / Eagles game, the Packers injured Philadelphia

quarterback Kevin Kolb. Philadelphia then had to play backup

    quarterback Michael Vick.

During a playoff game against the Eagles, the Packers injured Michael

Vick and another backup was needed.

After the Packers / Cowboys game, Dallas fired Wade Phillips.

After the Packers / Vikings game, Minnesota fired Brad Childress.

Four weeks after losing to the Packers, the 49er’s coach Mike

    Singletary was fired and replaced.

During the Bears playoff game, the Packers injured Jay Cutler and

backup Todd Collins forcing the Bears to go with 3rd string

    quarterback Caleb Hanie.

Bottom line: Last year, the Packers created more jobs than Obama

    Sunday’s Sermons:

    1) After Nevada beat UNLV 37-0, it’s is even more puzzling that Hawaii lost to UNLV by 20 points. UNLV has won only 1 game and even lost to Southern Utah in blow out fashion. Quite astonishing.

    2) How bout them Niners, 48-3 over the division leading Tampa Bay Bucs. I believe in Jim Harbaugh in his coaching and his leadership. Things are looking up….for now. Next week, tough game at Detroit who have been very good, especially at home. They should easily beat DA Bears tomorrow.

    3) Had a feeling the Raiders would win today. Just fate after the BOSS passed away yesterday.

    4) Top Ranked teams roll: LSU, Bama, Oklahoma, Boise St., Stanford, and Clemson all dominated.

    5) Surprising teams: Michigan, Illinois, and Kansas St.. Georgia Tech also unbeaten.

    6) WAC Dangerous teams – Utah St. and Nevada. Utah St. have played everybody tough. UH will have to be very careful, even at home. Nevada playing at home on Nov. 19 at night against UH. It will be 40 degrees or below. Not an easy game for sure. This week’s game at San Jose should be very interesting. San Jose St. have been very competitive and have been blown out by only Stanford, which is understandable. They only lost to UCLA by 10 in LA and lost at BYU yesterday by 10 also. So, UH will have to have their A game and will be focused. To me, this is a very key game in the schedule.

    7) IMHO, Aaron Rodgers is the best QB in the NFL right now. He has been, the last 10 games, including last year. He’s better than Brady, better than Brees, better than Rivers, better than Roethlisberger, definitely better than Romo who is not even in the top 12.

derek…the unlv game is what makes playing the game to produce an outcome is all about.

“on any given sunday” or saturday for that matter.

having been involved in hundreds of games at various levels in various sports, i can tell you that sometimes no matter what the odds are, an upset will happen that cannot be explained.

larry price’s theorum, “superior talent cancels all theory” is correct most of the time, but, it is not 100%.

unlv caught us at the right time.

that being said, this friday’s game looms large for the warriors. we are a team the spartans would like to knock off. they will come out smoking guns. we need to be prepared and ready.

  123. al October 9, 2011 8:25 pm

i am glad to see the senior leadership take charge and call “voluntary” workouts. at this juncture with a bye i would think that taking two days off in a row would be a detriment to our mental and physical sharpness.

remember that we had an easy week this past week and have an even shorter, abbreviated week due to the travel as well as the game being played on friday night.

we can’t get lazy now. we need to hone our skills for the stretch run.

sometimes i would prefer that the staff would go after it rather look for opportunities to rest up.

sort of reminds me of the pre-hawaii bowl “preparations”

Hey! I know this is kind of off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you using for this website? I’m getting tired of WordPress because I’ve had problems with hackers and I’m looking at alternatives for another platform. I would be awesome if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.
