Wittek bounces back

As expected, quarterback Max Wittek was back at the controls this morning, participating in all of the offense’s drills during the 75-minute practice.

The rest appeared to be beneficial for Wittek, who was mobile in the sets.

Wittek, a co-captain, has started the first five games.

There have been several tweaks to the active roster. Running back Jason Muraoka has been getting work as the No. 2 kickoff returner. And one of the strongest Warriors, fullback Kaiwi Chung, has been added to three special-team units.

Luke Clements is redshirting this season.
    So, too, is John Ursua.

    RE: H-Man #55

That 2014 game was so hard to watch. I remember UH was down just by a touchdown going into the 4th quarter. Then they end up turning over the ball on every series…

aloha everyone good morning !! ST you got a new hair -do on tv? looking good !! so what up with max need does need to drain every week ?

  5. justcurious October 8, 2015 10:42 am

Why are some of these practices so short? Is it because of the NCAA limit or coach’s decision? 75 minutes? By the time you warm up, you have time for one or two drills, that’s it.

  6. tom-warriornation October 8, 2015 10:45 am

Like Maddog says; don’t redshirt anyone that can help the team NOW.
The future is today; not next year.

    Mahalo WarriorNY!
Compiling the scores guesses is not much more time for me since I am archiving the blog entry and Tsai-ko poster database daily and updating my Tsai-ko web site. Plus I actually read the blog 🙂 . I will be back for the UH-Nevada game Guesses unless there is another compelling offer… 🙄 😛

Aloha Tsai-kos & Tsai-kettes ~ It’s only 2 days until FOOTBALL and TGATE time. The team needs us more than ever so come on out to the tgate and game. Mrs. SB & I have reserved Cabana A at Rainbow Bay Marina. The routine remains the same: early crew arrive/set-up ~9AM, grill crew fires-up ~10-10:30, eat ono grindz until clean-up ~1.5 hours prior to the game. Back after the game to finish off food / celebrate the WIN. Donations to pay for the Cabana, pop-up tent and common items (paper & plastic items, charcoal, etc.) are always welcome. Remember, everybody (locals and visitors) are welcome. Questions – email me at jboster(at)yahoo(dot)com. Hope to see everybody there even if it’s after the game. Cheers, SailorBlue

Hey hitman I noticed Mr. Tsai’s new haircut on tv as well. He is looking quite attractive. I’m not getting any erotic feelings deep within my loins or anything, but I’m pretty sure some people are hoping to score digits soon.
Ah, as for San Diego State.
If Chow loses this one, I’d say it’s time to bring down the curtain on Chow Time. How much more losing do you really expect the fans to tolerate? As it is, interest in UH football is at an all-time low. Lose Saturday, go 0-2 in conference and the fans will be at Chow and Matlin’s door ready to tar and feather these dudes.

An ode for the freshly minted Mr. Tsai and his new makeover:

    My Eyes Adored You

    My eyes adored you
Though I never laid a hand on you
    My eyes adored you
Like a million miles away from me
You couldn’t see how I adored you
So close, so close and yet so far

    Carried your books from school
Playin’ make-believe you’re married to me
You were fifth-grade, I was sixth
    When we came to be

    Walkin’ home every day over
    Over Barnegat Bridge and Bay
Till we grew into the me and you
    Went our separate ways

    My eyes adored you
Though I never laid a hand on you
    My eyes adored you
Like a million miles away from me
You couldn’t see how I adored you
So close, so close and yet so far

    Headed for city lights
Climbed the ladder up to fortune and fame
I worked my fingers to the bone
    Made myself a name

    Funny, I seemed to find
That no matter how the years unwind
Still I reminisce ’bout the girl I miss
And the love I left behind

    My eyes adored you
Though I never laid a hand on you
    My eyes adored you
Like a million miles away from me
You couldn’t see how I adored you
So close, so close and yet so far

    (My eyes adored you)
All my life I will remember
    How warm and tender
(Though I never laid a hand on you)
    (My eyes adored you)

We were way back then, whoa, whoa, baby
(Like a million miles away from me)
(You couldn’t see how I adored you)
    Oh, the feeling, sad regrets
I know I won’t ever forget you, my childhood friend
(So close, so close and yet so far)

    My eyes adored you
Though I never laid a hand on you
    My eyes adored you
Like a million miles away from me
You couldn’t see how I adored you
So close, so close and yet so far

    My eyes adored you

Glad to hear Wittek is healed up and ready to go. He really does give us the best chance to win at the QB position.

How are the WR looking? Well, from what has been reported by various observers is that they do fantastic in practice. Hopefully something clicks in their heads this Saturday and they can translate practice to the real thing so they don’t end up with the title of Warrior Driving Range Pro.

  27. SteveM October 8, 2015 2:08 pm

    RE: #22
Jimmy the Lock — Thanks– “will be”. I only scan my own stuff since I, like, wrote it. 🙁 But since WarriorNY is offering a prize NEXT WEEK, to avoid confusion, I did amend the next posting for the SDSU game to:
“Exact score to win recognition (no prize this week).”

BTW, there was a case of a missing guess last week. It was a new blog name which I suspect was held for clearance by the blog admin. Anyway, either I flat out missed it the first time or it cleared/appeared after I moved on to the next day. So, if you are entering a new blog name (hopefully not another alias) for next week’s prize, do not be surprised if WarriorNY misses it the first time through. To be safe, post a comment now before the contest starts next Sunday.

Since Kaiwi was a former OL, would make sense to put him at RB to give Max more time. Their current RB’s aren’t doing such a great job at protecting him. He is strong enough to get the short yardage gains that we would need on 3rd and short too.

  29. Da Punchbowl Kid October 8, 2015 3:05 pm

Hope all the Warriors are healed up soon and ready to bring their “A” game. Points, not pukas! Defense gotta keep pounding!

Kaiwi is a going to be a lot of help to the Warriors – buggah has the genes, the motor, the work ethic and is a ferocious player.

Warriors, you got this. Play hard like we all know you can and you’ll clobber ’em!

    WWF,

The RB are flat out doing a horrible job at blocking. I don’t think anyone, including the coaches and the players themselves, would disagree. If we can keep Lakalaka in their and maybe this guy Kaiwi, it will help with that pass protection and hopefully it’ll give time for longer routes to develop.

  32. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 8, 2015 3:46 pm

If you want to see how those crossing patterns Chow seems to be so in love with are supposed to work, go watch UW right this second. Their receivers have bread-soft hands.

My bonus has been, if I’m willing to stay up late in Florida, I get to watch UH live most Saturday nights. However, I’m feeling the pain. Not sure how much more I can take. Wish I could tailgate in Honolulu and share the pain with the brisket, sushi, bbq, etc. God Bless Warrior Nation! Things are not headed in a good direction. It kills me to watch some of the Pac12, Mountain West, and Big 10 games and see names that I recognize from Mililani, Kahuku, Campbell, Kaimuki, you name it. If football runs in cycles, then this will get really ugly before it gets better. Aloha!

  37. Akamai Okole October 8, 2015 5:54 pm

    Great Evening All!

    Good news about QB1.

Looking forward to cheering the Warriors on from a sports book in Lost Wages.

  38. winning October 8, 2015 6:10 pm

Wittek gives UH the best chance to win, not “nice guy but no can pass” #2. Does Zwahlen know the playbook? Gives UH a running option. Why not! I think it would be a big boost for the team.

  39. Bryson October 8, 2015 6:47 pm

Can we Gray Shirt Then Red Shirt Our WR Coach….lol…doesn’t seem like he’s ready to be in the position he’s in…

  40. justsomeguy October 8, 2015 8:26 pm

I truly hope to see the Warriors make some offensive improvements this week, especially in the play calling…..it’s just been………..antiquated. It’s so surprising to have to say this but as one watches the game you can’t help but feel like the “offensive revolution” of the past 12-14 years just hasn’t hit the Bows yet. Mind boggling really….as not so long ago……..ah, well we all know THAT story. Best of luck fellas’, 21-14 SDSU wins.

  41. rundown808 October 8, 2015 8:29 pm

Ok, here we go. Let’s talk about the elephant in the room shall we? The receiving corp? What’s cracking? Or shall we say what’s lacking? What’s up? No word on Kemp, Pedroza, Stubblefield, etc….I mean did we miss something? There’s plenty to talk about there. Health issues for starters. No news is not good news in this case.

Big game for the offensive coaching staff. Did they finally come up with a fix to get the offense going. I wish they’d tweak their game plan to take advantage of Wittek’s strengths – his size and his arm. Bottom line is he’s need more time. At his height he should be able to see down field and with time the receivers can fully work their routes. With time Wittek can utilize his cannon.
I’m no coach I don’t know how to buy Wittek more time it’s up to them to figure it out and still keep the integrity of the offense. To my eyes we have a simple offense in the sense we have a very thin play book. If there’s no play action we pass 99% of the time. We haven’t run any draws, very few screens, no check down receiver, no designed QB run plays, almost nothing to slow down the pass rush.
Defenses have been coming hard when they read pass, cover the short passes on the assumption Wittek and the receivers won’t have time to properly run the play. For the most part this has stymied our O from getting any kind of rhythm to sustain drives. Coaches, the onus is on you to find a fix.

Yesterday a lot of callers on the Animals show have thrown in the towel with this UH football team at 2-3 calling for this coach or that coach to take over. Many local fans admire UNLV here and their high school coach, as they seem to want the same for UH. Sounded like the people who screamed that the U.S. needed to pull back to the West Coast after the Dec 7th attack on Pearl Harbor.

As has been mentioned, the players and coaches have not given up.

    BEAT THE AZTECS

  59. H-Man October 9, 2015 8:42 am

Seems to me the same offensive game plan not very productive. If a RB has trouble pass blocking, make an adjustment. Wittek needs more time, so make an adjustment. Anyway, hoping to see adjustments by the coaching staff this Saturday. Go Warriors !!!

  60. H-Man October 9, 2015 8:54 am

You guys watch the USC- Washington game? Kessler did not look very good. The announcers kept saying how he left the pocket too soon. And often. So maybe we got the better quarterback. Hoping Wittek has a 250+ yards. And a RB rushes for 90+ yards.

  61. Rodney October 9, 2015 9:31 am

Win or lose lets support the warriors!
Wittek is the Qb that gives us the best
chance to win.The teams gotta step it
up.They got their instructions from the
coaches and now they gotta tackle, cover
and block and catch. We are a better team
    when we play at home.!
    Good luck to the team!!!

  62. Tempmanoa October 9, 2015 9:34 am

I ran some computer simulations I tinkered with– took out the Boise game was the main one and ran it about 2,000 times. Outcomes– if we lose it will be by 3 points, we can win by 12, but most likely outcome is we win by 7 by slim odds.

Ok. It’s my birthday Christmas anniversary and homecoming! All I want for all those days combined is a downhill physical defense huddling on the ball carrier. An offensive line that establishes the LOS receivers that catch and run, BC’s that drag people and a QB that’s on target. Turnovers on them none on us! Get a Big win! Of course it’s is not my birthday or any of those things-but I want what I want and I want it tomorrow!!!! GO WARRIORS!!!!!
